tolower() has some overhead because current locale is considered (though in lld the default "C" locale is used which does not matter too much). llvm::toLower is more efficient as it compiles to a compare and a conditional jump, as opposed to a libc call if tolower is used. Disregarding locale also matches gdb's behavior (gdb/minsyms.h): #define SYMBOL_HASH_NEXT(hash, c) \ ((hash) * 67 + TOLOWER ((unsigned char) (c)) - 113) where TOLOWER (include/safe-ctype.h) is a macro that uses a lookup table under the hood which is similar to llvm::toLower. LLVM Linker (lld)
This directory and its subdirectories contain source code for the LLVM Linker, a modular cross platform linker which is built as part of the LLVM compiler infrastructure project.
lld is open source software. You may freely distribute it under the terms of the license agreement found in LICENSE.txt.
Benchmarking
In order to make sure various developers can evaluate patches over the same tests, we create a collection of self contained programs.
It is hosted at https://s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/linker-tests/lld-speed-test.tar.xz
