George Burgess IV c07c389a94 [Sema] Remove unused field from OverloadCandidate.
The only use in-tree I can find for BuiltinTypes.ResultTy is a single
store to it. We otherwise just recompute what it should be later on (and
sometimes do things like argument conversions in the process of
recomputing it).

Since it's impossible to test if the value stored there is sane, and we
don't use it anyway, we should probably just drop the field.

I'll do a follow-up patch to rename BuiltinTypes.ParamTypes ->
BuiltinParamTypes in a bit. Wanted to keep this patch relatively
minimal.

Thanks to Petr Kudryavtsev for bringing this up!

Richard Smith e6d4b773de Fix a couple of class template argument deduction crashes with libc++'s tuple.
RecursiveASTVisitor was not properly recursing through a
SubstTemplateTypeParmTypes, resulting in crashes in pack expansion where we
couldn't always find an unexpanded pack within a pack expansion.

We also have an issue where substitution of deduced template arguments for an
implicit deduction guide creates the "impossible" case of naming a
non-dependent member of the current instantiation, but within a specialization
that is actually instantiated from a different (partial/explicit)
specialization of the template. We resolve this by declaring that constructors
that do so can only be used to deduce specializations of the primary template.
I'm running this past CWG to see if people agree this is the right thing to do.

Richard Smith 040e12662a Support lazy stat'ing of files referenced by module maps.
This patch adds support for a `header` declaration in a module map to specify
certain `stat` information (currently, size and mtime) about that header file.
This has two purposes:

- It removes the need to eagerly `stat` every file referenced by a module map.
  Instead, we track a list of unresolved header files with each size / mtime
  (actually, for simplicity, we track submodules with such headers), and when
  attempting to look up a header file based on a `FileEntry`, we check if there
  are any unresolved header directives with that `FileEntry`'s size / mtime and
  perform deferred `stat`s if so.

- It permits a preprocessed module to be compiled without the original files
  being present on disk. The only reason we used to need those files was to get
  the `stat` information in order to do header -> module lookups when using the
  module. If we're provided with the `stat` information in the preprocessed
  module, we can avoid requiring the files to exist.

Unlike most `header` directives, if a `header` directive with `stat`
information has no corresponding on-disk file the enclosing module is *not*
marked unavailable (so that behavior is consistent regardless of whether we've
resolved a header directive, and so that preprocessed modules don't get marked
unavailable). We could actually do this for all `header` directives: the only
reason we mark the module unavailable if headers are missing is to give a
diagnostic slightly earlier (rather than waiting until we actually try to build
the module / load and validate its .pcm file).

Vedant Kumar 85a83c2ced [Modules] Handle sanitizer feature mismatches when importing modules
This patch makes it an error to have a mismatch between the enabled
sanitizers in a CU, and in any module being imported into the CU. Only
mismatches between non-modular sanitizers are treated as errors.

This patch also includes non-modular sanitizers in module hashes, in
order to ensure module rebuilds occur when -fsanitize=X is toggled on
and off for non-modular sanitizers, and to cut down on module rebuilds
when the option is toggled for modular sanitizers.

This fixes a longstanding issue with implicit modules and sanitizers,
which Duncan originally diagnosed.

When building with implicit modules it's possible to hit a scenario
where modules are built without -fsanitize=address, and are subsequently
imported into CUs with -fsanitize=address enabled. This causes strange
failures at runtime. The case Duncan found affects libcxx, since its
vector implementation behaves differently when ASan is enabled.

Implicit module builds should "just work" when -fsanitize=X is toggled
on and off across multiple compiler invocations, which is what this
patch does.

Check pointer arithmetic for overflow.

For some more background on this check, see:

  https://wdtz.org/catching-pointer-overflow-bugs.html
  https://reviews.llvm.org/D20322

Patch by Will Dietz and John Regehr!

This version of the patch is different from the original in a few ways:

  - It introduces the EmitCheckedInBoundsGEP utility which inserts
    checks when the pointer overflow check is enabled.

  - It does some constant-folding to reduce instrumentation overhead.

  - It does not check some GEPs in CGExprCXX. I'm not sure that
    inserting checks here, or in CGClass, would catch many bugs.

Possible future directions for this check:

  - Introduce CGF.EmitCheckedStructGEP, to detect overflows when
    accessing structures.

Testing: Apart from the added lit test, I ran check-llvm and check-clang
with a stage2, ubsan-instrumented clang. Will and John have also done
extensive testing on numerous open source projects.

Richard Smith f03e9084c1 PR33232: implement support for MSVC's __is_trivially_destructible trait.
Unlike the GCC-compatible __has_trivial_destructor trait, this one computes the
right answer rather than performing the quirky set of checks described in GCC's
documentation (https://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/gcc/Type-Traits.html).

MSVC also has a __has_trivial_destructor trait which is the same as its (and
now Clang's) __is_trivially_destructible trait; we might want to consider
changing the behavior of __has_trivial_destructor if we're targeting an MSVC
platform, but I'm not doing so for now.

While implementing this I found that we were incorrectly rejecting
__is_destructible queries on arrays of unknown bound of incomplete types; that
too is fixed, and I've added similar tests for other traits for good measure.

To prevent errors about unbalanced preprocessor conditionals in the

Richard Smith 883dbc43d9 Switch from using a DiagnosticTrap and a note for "while defining a special
member function" context notes to registering an entry on the context stack.

Also reorder the steps within defining special members to be consistent.

This has a few benefits: if multiple diagnostics are produced while checking
such a member, the note is now attached to the first such diagnostic rather
than the last, this prepares us for persisting these diagnostics between the
point at which we require the implicit instantiation of a template and the
point at which that instantiation is actually performed, and this fixes some
cases where we would fail to produce a full note stack leading back to user
code in the case of such a diagnostic.

The reordering exposed a case where we could recursively attempt to define a
defaulted destructor while we're already defining one (and other such cases
also appear to be possible, with or without this change), so this change also
reuses the "willHaveBody" flag on function declarations to track that we're in
the middle of synthesizing a body for the function and bails out if we try to
define a function that we're already defining.

Summary:
According to the PDTS it's perfectly legal to have a promise type that defines neither `return_value` nor `return_void`. However a coroutine that uses such a promise type will almost always have UB, because it can never `co_return`.

This patch changes Clang to diagnose such cases as an error. It also cleans up some of the diagnostic messages relating to member lookup in the promise type.

Summary:
This patch fixes a number of issues with the analysis warnings emitted when a coroutine may reach the end of the function w/o returning.

* Fix bug where coroutines with `return_value` are incorrectly diagnosed as missing `co_return`'s.
* Rework diagnostic message to no longer say "non-void coroutine", because that implies the coroutine doesn't have a void return type, which it might. In this case a non-void coroutine is one who's promise type does not contain `return_void()`

As a side-effect of this patch, coroutine bodies that contain an invalid coroutine promise objects are marked as invalid.

Faisal Vali 56f1de4dcb Fix PR25627: constant expressions being odr-used in template arguments.
This patch ensures that clang processes the expression-nodes that are generated when disambiguating between types and expressions within template arguments as constant-expressions by installing the ConstantEvaluated ExpressionEvaluationContext just before attempting the disambiguation - and then making sure that Context carries through into ParseConstantExpression (by refactoring it out into a function that does not create its own EvaluationContext: ParseConstantExpressionInExprEvalContext)

Note, prior to this patch, trunk would correctly disambiguate and identify the expression as an expression - and while it would annotate the token with the expression - it would fail to complete the odr-use processing (specifically, failing to trigger Sema::UpdateMarkingForLValueToRValue as is done for all Constant Expressions, which would remove it from being considered odr-used). By installing the ConstantExpression Evaluation Context prior to disambiguation, and making sure it carries though, we ensure correct processing of the expression-node.

For e.g:
  template<int> struct X { };
  void f() {
    const int N = 10;
    X<N> x; // should be OK.
    [] { return X<N>{}; }; // Should be OK - no capture - but clang errors!
  }

See a related bug: https://bugs.llvm.org//show_bug.cgi?id=25627

In summary (and reiteration), the fix is as follows:

    - Remove the EnteredConstantEvaluatedContext action from ParseTemplateArgumentList (relying on ParseTemplateArgument getting it right)
    - Add the EnteredConstantEvaluatedContext action just prior to undergoing the disambiguating parse, and if the parse succeeds for an expression, carry the context though into a refactored version of ParseConstantExpression that does not create its own ExpressionEvaluationContext.

See https://reviews.llvm.org/D31588 for additional context regarding some of the more fragile and complicated approaches attempted, and Richard's feedback that eventually shaped the simpler and more robust rendition that is being committed.

Thanks Richard!

original type.

The commit fixes this bug by detecting the recursive behavior and failing

Richard Smith 42bc73a3f1 When we see a '<' operator, check whether it's a probable typo for a template-id.
The heuristic that we use here is:
 * the left-hand side must be a simple identifier or a class member access
 * the right-hand side must be '<' followed by either a '>' or by a type-id that
   cannot be an expression (in particular, not followed by '(' or '{')
 * there is a '>' token matching the '<' token

The second condition guarantees the expression would otherwise be ill-formed.

If we're confident that the user intended the name before the '<' to be
interpreted as a template, diagnose the fact that we didn't interpret it
that way, rather than diagnosing that the template arguments are not valid
expressions.

Richard Smith 77e9e84a8e Don't mark a member as a member specialization until we know we're keeping the specialization.
This improves our behavior in a few ways:

 * We now guarantee that if a member is marked as being a member
   specialization, there will actually be a member specialization declaration
   somewhere on its redeclaration chain. This fixes a crash in modules builds
   where we would try to check that there was a visible declaration of the
   member specialization and be surprised to not find any declaration of it at
   all.

 * We don't set the source location of the in-class declaration of the member
   specialization to the out-of-line declaration's location until we have
   actually finished merging them. This fixes some very silly looking
   diagnostics, where we'd point a "previous declaration is here" note at the
   same declaration we're complaining about. Ideally we wouldn't mess with the
   prior declaration's location at all, but too much code assumes that the
   first declaration of an entity is a reasonable thing to use as an indication
   of where it was declared, and that's not really true for a member
   specialization unless we fake it like this.

Summary:
We define the `__xray_customeevent` builtin that gets translated to
IR calls to the correct intrinsic. The default implementation of this is
a no-op function. The codegen side of this follows the following logic:

- When `-fxray-instrument` is not provided in the driver, we elide all
calls to `__xray_customevent`.
- When `-fxray-instrument` is enabled and a function is marked as "never
instrumented", we elide all calls to `__xray_customevent` in that
function; if either marked as "always instrumented" or subject to
threshold-based instrumentation, we emit a call to the
`llvm.xray.customevent` intrinsic from LLVM for each
`__xray_customevent` occurrence in the function.

This change depends on D27503 (to land in LLVM first).

Richard Smith 8128f3327f Add support for building modules from preprocessed source.
To support this, an optional marker "#pragma clang module contents" is
recognized in module map files, and the rest of the module map file from that
point onwards is treated as the source of the module. Preprocessing a module
map produces the input module followed by the marker and then the preprocessed
contents of the module.

Ignoring line markers, a preprocessed module might look like this:

  module A {
    header "a.h"
  }
  #pragma clang module contents
  #pragma clang module begin A
  // ... a.h ...
  #pragma clang module end

The preprocessed output generates line markers, which are not accepted by the
module map parser, so -x c++-module-map-cpp-output should be used to compile
such outputs.

A couple of major parts do not work yet:

1) The files that are listed in the module map must exist on disk, in order to
   build the on-disk header -> module lookup table in the PCM file. To fix
   this, we need the preprocessed output to track the file size and other stat
   information we might use to build the lookup table.

2) Declaration ownership semantics don't work properly yet, since mapping from
   a source location to a module relies on mapping from FileIDs to modules,
   which we can't do if module transitions can occur in the middle of a file.

Summary:
First, getCurFunction looks through blocks and lambdas, which is wrong.
Inside a lambda, va_start should refer to the lambda call operator
prototype. This fixes PR32737.

Second, we shouldn't use any of the getCur* methods, because they look
through contexts that we don't want to look through (EnumDecl,
CapturedStmtDecl). We can use CurContext directly as the calling
context.

Finally, this code assumed that CallExprs would never appear outside of
code contexts (block, function, obj-c method), which is wrong. Struct
member initializers are an easy way to create and parse exprs in a
non-code context.

Richard Smith e37391c4fe [modules] Round-trip -Werror flag through explicit module build.
The intent for an explicit module build is that the diagnostics produced within
the module are those that were configured when the module was built, not those

don't actually show up until the module is used (for instance, diagnostics
produced during template instantiation and weird cases like -Wpadded).

We serialized and restored the diagnostic state for individual warning groups,

which are implemented as separate bits rather than as part of the diagnostics
mapping information.

Daniel Jasper ffdee09350 Revert r301822 (and dependent r301825), which tried to improve the
handling of constexprs with unknown bounds.

This triggers a corner case of the language where it's not yet clear
whether this should be an error:

  struct A {
    static void *const a[];
    static void *const b[];
  };
  constexpr void *A::a[] = {&b[0]};
  constexpr void *A::b[] = {&a[0]};

When discovering the initializer for A::a, the bounds of A::b aren't known yet.
It is unclear whether warning about errors should be deferred until the end of
the translation unit, possibly resolving errors that can be resolved. In
practice, the compiler can know the bounds of all arrays in this example.

Richard Smith c51c38b4ec Add pragma to perform module import and use it in -E output.
Many of our supported configurations support modules but do not have any
first-class syntax to perform a module import. This leaves us with a problem:
there is no way to represent the expansion of a #include that imports a module
in the -E output for such languages. (We don't want to just leave it as a
#include because that requires the consumer of the preprocessed source to have
the same file system layout and include paths as the creator.)

This patch adds a new pragma:

  #pragma clang module import MODULE.NAME.HERE

that imports a module, and changes -E and -frewrite-includes to use it when
rewriting a #include that maps to a module import. We don't make any attempt
to use a native language syntax import if one exists, to get more consistent
output. (If in the future, @import and #include have different semantics in

Richard Smith f74d946624 Move functionality for handling module maps as inputs from the -emit-module
action to the general FrontendAction infrastructure.

This permits applying -E, -ast-dump, -fsyntax-only, and so on to a module map
compilation. (The -E form is not currently especially useful yet as there's no
good way to take the output and use it to actually build a module.)

In order to support this, -cc1 now accepts -x <lang>-module-map in all cases
where it accepts -x <lang> for a language we can parse (not ir/ast). And for
uniformity, we also accept -x <lang>-header for all such languages (we used
to reject for cuda and renderscript), and -x <lang>-cpp-output for all such
languages (we used to reject for c, cl, and renderscript).

(None of these new alternatives are accepted by the driver yet, so no
user-visible changes.)

Duncan P. N. Exon Smith cfc1f6a6ee Preprocessor: Suppress -Wnonportable-include-path for header maps
If a file search involves a header map, suppress
-Wnonportable-include-path. It's firing lots of false positives for
framework authors internally, and it's not trivial to fix.

Consider a framework called "Foo" with a main (installed) framework header
"Foo/Foo.h". It's atypical for "Foo.h" to actually live inside a
directory called "Foo" in the source repository. Instead, the
build system generates a header map while building the framework.
If Foo.h lives at the top-level of the source repository (common), and
the git repo is called ssh://some.url/foo.git, then the header map will
have something like:

    Foo/Foo.h -> /Users/myname/code/foo/Foo.h

where "/Users/myname/code/foo" is the clone of ssh://some.url/foo.git.

After #import <Foo/Foo.h>, the current implementation of
-Wnonportable-include-path will falsely assume that Foo.h was found in a
nonportable way, because of the name of the git clone (.../foo/Foo.h).
However, that directory name was not involved in the header search at
all.

This commit adds an extra parameter to Preprocessor::LookupFile and
HeaderSearch::LookupFile to track if the search used a header map,
making it easy to suppress the warning. Longer term, once we find a way
to avoid the false positive, we should turn the warning back on.

We already prohibited this in most cases (in r130710), but had some bugs in our

 * -x c++ -std=cuda, which would previously select C++98 + CUDA, despite that

   selects CUDA with the given C++ standard as its base language.
   -x cuda -std=cuda is still supported with the meaning of CUDA + C++98.)

 * -x renderscript -std=c++NN, which would previously form a hybrid "C++ with

Alex Lorenz 1be800c511 Add support for editor placeholders to Clang
This commit teaches Clang to recognize editor placeholders that are produced
when an IDE like Xcode inserts a code-completion result that includes a
placeholder. Now when the lexer sees a placeholder token, it emits an
'editor placeholder in source file' error and creates an identifier token
that represents the placeholder. The parser/sema can now recognize the
placeholders and can suppress the diagnostics related to the placeholders. This
ensures that live issues in an IDE like Xcode won't get spurious diagnostics
related to placeholders.

This commit also adds a new compiler option named '-fallow-editor-placeholders'
that silences the 'editor placeholder in source file' error. This is useful
for an IDE like Xcode as we don't want to display those errors in live issues.

Add a '-gen-reproducer' driver option to clang (or any similar name) and
give users a flag option.

Note that clang already has a -fno-crash-diagnostics, which disables the
crash reproducers. I've decided not to propose "-fcrash-diagnostics"
since it doesn't convey the ideia of reproduction despite a crash.

Duncan P. N. Exon Smith 900f817591 Serialization: Simulate -Werror settings in implicit modules
r293123 started serializing diagnostic pragma state for modules. This
makes the serialization work properly for implicit modules.

An implicit module build (using Clang's internal build system) uses the
same PCM file location for different `-Werror` levels.

E.g., if a TU has `-Werror=format` and tries to load a PCM built without
`-Werror=format`, a new PCM will be built in its place (and the new PCM
should have the same signature, since r297655). In the other direction,
if a TU does not have `-Werror=format` and tries to load a PCM built
with `-Werror=format`, it should "just work".

The idea is to evolve the PCM toward the strictest -Werror flags that
anyone tries.

r293123 started serializing the diagnostic pragma state for each PCM.
Since this encodes the -Werror settings at module-build time, it breaks
the implicit build model.

This commit filters the diagnostic state in order to simulate the
current compilation's diagnostic settings. Firstly, it ignores the
module's serialized first diagnostic state, replacing it with the state
from this compilation's command-line. Secondly, if a pragma warning was
upgraded to error/fatal when generating the PCM (e.g., due to `-Werror`
on the command-line), it checks whether it should still be upgraded in
its current context.

Some decls are created not where they are written, but in other module

specializations). To correctly identify them, use a bit next to the definition
to track the modular codegen property.

Discussed whether the module file bit could be omitted in favor of
reconstituting from the modular codegen decls list - best guess today is that
the efficiency improvement of not having to deserialize the whole list whenever
any function is queried by a module user is worth it for the small size
increase of this redundant (list + bit-on-def) representation.

clang-import-test has until now been only able to report top-level Decls.
This is clearly insufficient; we should be able to look inside structs

to make most of these testcases work. (One testcase is known to fail
because of ASTImporter limitations when importing templates; I'll look
into that separately.)

This patch also separates the core functionality out into

Artem Dergachev da9e718fb4 [analyzer] Reland r299544 "Add a modular constraint system to the CloneDetector"
Hopefully fix crashes by unshadowing the variable.

Original commit message:

A big part of the clone detection code is functionality for filtering clones and
clone groups based on different criteria. So far this filtering process was
hardcoded into the CloneDetector class, which made it hard to understand and,
ultimately, to extend.

This patch splits the CloneDetector's logic into a sequence of reusable
constraints that are used for filtering clone groups. These constraints
can be turned on and off and reodreder at will, and new constraints are easy
to implement if necessary.

Unit tests are added for the new constraint interface.

This is a refactoring patch - no functional change intended.
