Summary:
Relate bug: https://bugs.llvm.org/show_bug.cgi?id=37472
The shrink wrapping pass prematurally restores the stack, at a point where the stack might still be accessed.
Taking an exception can cause the stack to be corrupted.
As a first approach, this patch is overly conservative, assuming that any instruction that may load or store could access
the stack.

llvm-svn: 363265
This takes sequences like "mov r4, sp; str r0, [r4]", and optimizes them
to something like "str r0, [sp]".
For regular stack variables, this optimization was already implemented:
we lower loads and stores using frame indexes, which are expanded later.
However, when constructing a call frame for a call with more than four
arguments, the existing optimization doesn't apply. We need to use
stores which are actually relative to the current value of sp, and don't
have an associated frame index.
This patch adds a special case to handle that construct. At the DAG
level, this is an ISD::STORE where the address is a CopyFromReg from SP
(plus a small constant offset).
This applies only to Thumb1: in Thumb2 or ARM mode, a regular store
instruction can access SP directly, so the COPY gets eliminated by
existing code.
The change to ARMDAGToDAGISel::SelectThumbAddrModeSP is a related
cleanup: we shouldn't pretend that it can select anything other than
frame indexes.

It looks like this got left in by accident in r289794; I can't think of
any reason this check would be necessary. (Maybe it was meant to be a

Should fix UBSan bot by also checking there's no "uwtable" attribute
before skipping. Otherwise the unwind table will be useless since its
moves expect CSRs to actually be preserved.
A noreturn nounwind function can be expected to never return in any way, and by
never returning it will also never have to restore any callee-saved registers
for its caller. This makes it possible to skip spills of those registers during
function entry, saving some stack space and time in the process. This is rather
useful for embedded targets with limited stack space.
Should fix PR9970.

Re-enable commit r323991 now that r325931 has been committed to make
MachineOperand::isRenamable() check more conservative w.r.t. code
changes and opt-in on a per-target basis.
llvm-svn: 326208
This reverts commit r323991.
This commit breaks target that don't model all the register constraints
in TableGen. So far the workaround was to set the
hasExtraXXXRegAllocReq, but it proves that it doesn't cover all the
cases.
For instance, when mutating an instruction (like in the lowering of
COPYs) the isRenamable flag is not properly updated. The same problem
will happen when attaching machine operand from one instruction to
another.
Geoff Berry is working on a fix in https://reviews.llvm.org/D43042.
llvm-svn: 325421
Summary:
This change extends MachineCopyPropagation to do COPY source forwarding
and adds an additional run of the pass to the default pass pipeline just
after register allocation.
This version of this patch uses the newly added
MachineOperand::isRenamable bit to avoid forwarding registers is such a
way as to violate constraints that aren't captured in the
Machine IR (e.g. ABI or ISA constraints).
This change is a continuation of the work started in D30751.

The commit https://reviews.llvm.org/rL318143 computes incorrectly to offset to
restore LR from.
The number of tPOP operands is 2 (condition) + 2 (implicit def and use of SP) +
count of the popped registers. We need to load LR from just past the last
register, hence the correct offset should be either getNumOperands() - 4 and
getNumExplicitOperands() - 2 (multiplied by 4).
Differential revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D40305
llvm-svn: 319014
When we emit a tail call for Armv8-M, but then discover that the caller needs to
save/restore `LR`, we convert the tail call to an ordinary one, since restoring
`LR` takes extra instructions, which may negate the benefits of the tail
call. If the callee, however, takes stack arguments, this conversion is
incorrect, since nothing has been done to pass the stack arguments.
Thus the patch reverts https://reviews.llvm.org/rL294000
Also, we improve the instruction sequence for popping `LR` in the case when we
couldn't immediately find a scratch low register, but we can use as a temporary
one of the callee-saved low registers and restore `LR` before popping other
callee-saves.

Issues addressed since original review:
- Avoid bug in regalloc greedy/machine verifier when forwarding to use
in an instruction that re-defines the same virtual register.
- Fixed bug when forwarding to use in EarlyClobber instruction slot.
- Fixed incorrect forwarding to register definitions that showed up in
explicit_uses() iterator (e.g. in INLINEASM).
- Moved removal of dead instructions found by
LiveIntervals::shrinkToUses() outside of loop iterating over
instructions to avoid instructions being deleted while pointed to by
iterator.
- Fixed ARMLoadStoreOptimizer bug exposed by this change in r311907.
- The pass no longer forwards COPYs to physical register uses, since
doing so can break code that implicitly relies on the physical
register number of the use.
- The pass no longer forwards COPYs to undef uses, since doing so
can break the machine verifier by creating LiveRanges that don't
end on a use (since the undef operand is not considered a use).
[MachineCopyPropagation] Extend pass to do COPY source forwarding
This change extends MachineCopyPropagation to do COPY source forwarding.
This change also extends the MachineCopyPropagation pass to be able to
be run during register allocation, after physical registers have been
assigned, but before the virtual registers have been re-written, which
allows it to remove virtual register COPY LiveIntervals that become dead
through the forwarding of all of their uses.

This is essentially a recommit of r285893, but with a correctness fix. The
problem of the original commit was that this:
bic r5, r7, #31
cbz r5, .LBB2_10
got rewritten into:
lsrs r5, r7, #5
beq .LBB2_10
The result in destination register r5 is not the same and this is incorrect
when r5 is not dead. So this fix includes checking the uses of the AND
destination register. And also, compared to the original commit, some regression
tests didn't need changing anymore because of this extra check.
For completeness, this was the original commit message:
For the common pattern (CMPZ (AND x, #bitmask), #0), we can do some more
efficient instruction selection if the bitmask is one consecutive sequence of
set bits (32 - clz(bm) - ctz(bm) == popcount(bm)).
1) If the bitmask touches the LSB, then we can remove all the upper bits and
set the flags by doing one LSLS.
2) If the bitmask touches the MSB, then we can remove all the lower bits and
set the flags with one LSRS.
3) If the bitmask has popcount == 1 (only one set bit), we can shift that bit
into the sign bit with one LSLS and change the condition query from NE/EQ to
MI/PL (we could also implement this by shifting into the carry bit and
branching on BCC/BCS).
4) Otherwise, we can emit a sequence of LSLS+LSRS to remove the upper and lower
zero bits of the mask.
1-3 require only one 16-bit instruction and can elide the CMP. 4 requires two
16-bit instructions but can elide the CMP and doesn't require materializing a
complex immediate, so is also a win.

This recommits r281323, which was backed out for two reasons. One, a selfhost failure, and two, it apparently caused Chromium failures. Actually, the latter was a red herring. The log has expired from the former, but I suspect that was a red herring too (actually caused by another problematic patch of mine). Therefore reapplying, and will watch the bots like a hawk.
