This reverts commit r358543/ab70da07286e618016e78247e4a24fcb84077fda.
llvm-svn: 358546
It seems that, since VC19, the `float` C99 math functions are supported for all
targets, unlike the C89 ones.
According to the discussion at https://reviews.llvm.org/D57625.
llvm-svn: 353758
It seems that the run time for Windows has changed and supports more math
functions than it used to, especially on AArch64, ARM, and AMD64.
Fixes PR40541.

llvm-svn: 353733
It seems that the run time for Windows has changed and supports more math
functions than before. Since LLVM requires at least VS2015, I assume that
this is the run time that would be redistributed with programs built with
Clang. Thus, I based this update on the header file `math.h` that
accompanies it.
This patch addresses the PR40541. Unfortunately, I have no access to a
Windows development environment to validate it.

Properly shrink `pow()` to `powf()` as a binary function and, when no other
simplification applies, do not discard it.

This is similar to the bug/fix:

The fmin() test case reveals another bug caused by sloppy
code duplication. It will crash without this patch because
fp128 is a valid floating-point type, but we would think
that we had matched a function that used doubles.
The new helper function can be used to replace similar
checks that are used in several other places in this file.
llvm-svn: 258428
This patch removes a chunk of special case logic for folding
(float)sqrt((double)x) -> sqrtf(x)
in InstCombineCasts and handles it in the mainstream path of SimplifyLibCalls.
No functional change intended, but I loosened the restriction on the existing
sqrt testcases to allow for this optimization even without unsafe-fp-math because
that's the existing behavior.
I also added a missing test case for not shrinking the llvm.sqrt.f64 intrinsic
in case the result is used as a double.

When a call to a double-precision libm function has fast-math semantics
(via function attribute for now because there is no IR-level FMF on calls),
we can avoid fpext/fptrunc operations and use the float version of the call
if the input and output are both float.
We already do this optimization using a command-line option; this patch just
adds the ability for fast-math to use the existing functionality.
I moved the cl::opt from InstructionCombining into SimplifyLibCalls because
it's only ever used internally to that class.
Modified the existing test cases to use the unsafe-fp-math attribute rather
than repeating all tests.

widespread glibc bugs.
The glibc implementation of exp10 has a very serious precision bug in
version 2.15 (and older versions). This is still very widely used (the
current Ubuntu LTS for example uses it) and so it isn't reasonable to
make transforms that produce these functions. This fixes many
miscompiles introduced when we started transforming pow(10.0, ...) into
exp10, and it may have fixed other latent miscompiles where exp10
provided sufficient precision but exp10f did not.
This is all really horrible. The primary bug has been fixed for over
a year and glibc 2.18 works correctly for the test cases I have, but it
will be 2017 before the LTS using 2.15 is no longer supported by Ubuntu
(and thus reasonable for folks to be relying on). =[ We're either going
to need to live without these optimizations, or find a way to switch
behavior more dynamically than using simply the fact that the OS is
"Linux".
To make matters worse, there appears to be significant testing and
fixing of numerous other bugs in the exp10 family of functions right now
in glibc. While those haven't been causing problems I've seen in the
wild, it gives me concerns that we may need to wait until an even later
release of glibc before we can reliably transform code into exp10.

InstCombine, in visitFPTrunc, applies the following optimization to sqrt calls:
(fptrunc (sqrt (fpext x))) -> (sqrtf x)
but does not apply the same optimization to llvm.sqrt. This is a problem
because, to enable vectorization, Clang generates llvm.sqrt instead of sqrt in
fast-math mode, and because this optimization is being applied to sqrt and not
applied to llvm.sqrt, sometimes the fast-math code is slower.
This change makes InstCombine apply this optimization to llvm.sqrt as well.
This fixes the specific problem in PR17758, although the same underlying issue
(optimizations applied to libcalls are not applied to intrinsics) exists for
other optimizations in SimplifyLibCalls.
llvm-svn: 194935
This patch migrates the math library call simplifications from the
simplify-libcalls pass into the instcombine library call simplifier.
I have typically migrated just one simplifier at a time, but the math
simplifiers are interdependent because:
1. CosOpt, PowOpt, and Exp2Opt all depend on UnaryDoubleFPOpt.
2. CosOpt, PowOpt, Exp2Opt, and UnaryDoubleFPOpt all depend on
the option -enable-double-float-shrink.
These two factors made migrating each of these simplifiers individually
more of a pain than it would be worth. So, I migrated them all together.
