Ilia K 3b0494c304 MI fix allowing multiple logging instances of lldb-mi to run simultaneously.
Summary:
Currently if two instances of lldb-mi are running with logging enabled using '--log' the log file conflicts. This produces the following error
MI: Error: File Handler. Error Permission denied opening 'C:\Users\Ewan\LLVM\build\Debug\bin\lldb-mi-log.txt'

Fixed in this patch by renaming lldb-mi-log.txt based on the date, e.g. lldb-mi-log.txt-20150316163631.log, and moving the file into the temp directory by using the --log-dir option.

Regrading previous review comments the P_tmpdir macro is defined in Windows but always points to "\", which doesn't help much. Also when using the Windows API for GetTempPath() dynamic memory seems much more messy.

Ilia K 5a931869d4 MI Refactor CMIUtilSystemWindows::GetExecutablesPath()
Summary:
My understanding of the Windows API call GetLastError() is that it should only be checked when ::GetModuleFileName() returns 0 on error.
Otherwise GetExecutablesPath() could return an error despite nLen being valid if GetLastError() was inconsistent.
Patch updates function to only call GetOSLastError() when nLen == 0

Ilia K d854180afb MI support for '-var-create $regname' command.
Summary:
This command is currently processed using expression evaluation, meaning the variable binds to the result of the expression not the register.
Therefore any subsequent calls to '-var-assign' will not update the register. Fixed by detecting '$' prefix for registers according to specification.

Pavel Labath 1107b5a597 Use non-blocking waitpid in NativeProcessLinux
Summary:
This is the first phase of the merging of Monitor and Operation threads in NativeProcessLinux
(which is necessary since the two threads race inside Linux kernel). Here, I reimplement the
Monitor thread do use non-blocking waitpid calls, which enables later addition of code from the
operation thread.

Test Plan: Ran the test suite a couple of times, no regressions detected.

Ilia K bc929b80dc Fix handling of the executable arg which contains spaces (MI)
* Don't use the CMICmdArgValFile::GetFileNamePath for the CMIDriver::m_strCmdLineArgExecuteableFileNamePath
  because it wraps path with spaces into quotes what is already being done in CMIDriver::LocalDebugSessionStartupExecuteCommands
* Improve the MiSyntaxTestCase.test_lldbmi_specialchars test to catch this error
  ```
    $ bin/lldb-mi "~/p/ hello"
Ilia K 9b618d25ca Generate an event when a pending breakpoint binds
Summary:
This checkin sends an MI event when a module is loaded that causes a pending breakpoint to bind to it's real address in the target. This allows breakpoints to be set before the process is launched, and the target address of the BP to be discovered when the module loads, prior to the breakpoint being hit.
Patch from chuckr@microsoft.com
Test Plan:
I ran the check-lldb target with and without this patch and saw no change. I am unsure of how to write an MI specific test for this because the new event is buried in module load events. Here is an example (the new event is in bold):
Zachary Turner e6e2bb3842 Rework LLDB system initialization.
In an effort to reduce binary size for components not wishing to
link against all of LLDB, as well as a parallel effort to reduce
link dependencies on Python, this patch splits out the notion of
LLDB initialization into "full" and "common" initialization.
All code related to initializing the full LLDB suite lives directly
in API now.  Previously it was only referenced from API, but because
it was defined in lldbCore, it would get implicitly linked against
by everything including lldb-server, causing a considerable
increase in binary size.
By moving this to the API layer, it also creates a better layering
for the ongoing effort to make the embedded interpreter replacable
with one from a different language (or even be completely removeable).
One semantic change necessary to get this all working was to remove
the notion of a shared debugger refcount.  The debugger is either
initialized or uninitialized now, and calling Initialize() multiple
times will simply have no effect, while the first Terminate() will
now shut it down no matter how many times Initialize() was called.
This behaves nicely with all of our supported usage patterns though,
and allows us to fix a number of nasty hacks from before.
lldb-platform's listener socket only had a backlog of one connection.
That means that if more than one client connected simultaneously, the
dozens of threads connecting simultaneously. Raised this limit to 100
Zachary Turner 3a00691f3d Move LLDB initialization/shutdown to Initialization.
This creates a new top-level folder called Initialization which
is intended to hold code specific to LLDB system initialization.
Currently this holds the Initialize() and Terminate() functions,
as well as the fatal error handler.
This provides a means to break the massive dependency cycle which
is caused by the fact that Debugger depends on Initialize and
Terminate which then depends on the entire LLDB project.  With
this structure, it will be possible for applications to invoke
lldb_private::Initialize() directly, and have that invoke
Debugger::Initialize.
Robert Flack f196c93172 Add Debugger::InitializeForLLGS to allow ref counted LLGS initialization.
After http://reviews.llvm.org/D8133 landed as r231550 process launch on remote platform stopped working.
This adds Debugger::InitializeForLLGS and tracks whether one or both of Initialize and InitializeForLLGS have been called, calling only the corresponding lldb_private::Terminate* methods as necessary. Since lldb_private::Terminate calls lldb_private::TerminateForLLGS, the latter method may be called twice if Initialize was called for both however the terminate methods ensure they are only called once after being initialized.
This still maintains the reduced binary size, though it does now technically link in lldb_private::Terminate on lldb-server even though this should never be called.
This should resolve the issue raised in http://reviews.llvm.org/D8133 where Debugger::Terminate assumed that there were 0 references to debugger and terminated early.
Ilia K 69b95f49f1 Fix handling of double quotes (MI)
Summary:
* Clean CMICmdArgValString::Validate: now it's based on CMIUtilString::SplitConsiderQuotes method:
A bit of introduction:
# Command line is wrapped into CMICmdArgContext.
# CMICmdArgSet is a set of arguments to be parsed. This class contains CMICmdArgContext as a private member.
# MI command is class which is inhereted from CMICmdBase. It contains CMICmdArgSet as a private member.
When command is executed CMICmdBase::ParseArgs() is called. This method adds args for parsing using CMICmdArgSet::Add(). Then CMICmdBase::ParseValidateCmdOptions() is called, which calls CMICmdArgSet::Validate(). Then it gets a number of arguments (using SplitConsiderQuotes().array_length) and for each arguments registered in ParseArgs() tries to validate it using CMICmdArgValBase::Validate(). Every user commands parses this string again (first time it was made in SplitConsiderQuotes) and in case of CMICmdArgValString it was made incorrectly. It searches the first and last quotes (but it should be first and next after first). Besides, it was splitted into 4 cases.
I'm just using SplitConsiderQuotes directly, and I don't split them by hand again.
Actually, I think we should do so in every CMICmdArgVal_XXX::Validate() method.
2015-02-24 21:28:01 +00:00
Zachary Turner f4f8740eb0 [CMake] Change lldbAPI to be a CMake OBJECT library.
An OBJECT library is a special type of CMake library that produces
no archive, has no link interface, and no link inputs.  It is like
a regular archive, just without the physical output.  To link
against an OBJECT library, you reference it in the *source* file
list of a library using the special syntax $<TARGET_OBJECTS:lldbAPI>.
This will cause every object file to be passed to the linker
independently, as opposed to a single archive being passed to the
linker.
This is *extremely* important on Windows.  lldbAPI exports all of the
SB classes using __declspec(dllexport).  Unfortunately for technical
reasons it is not possible (well, extremely difficult) to get the
linker to propagate a __declspec(dllexport) attribute from a symbol
in an object file in an archive to a DLL that links against that
archive.  The solution to this is for the DLL to link the object files
directly.  So lldbAPI must be an OBJECT library.
This fixes an issue that has been present since the duplicated
lldbAPI file lists were removed, which would cause linker failures.
As a side effect, this also makes LLDB_DISABLE_PYTHON=1 work again
on Windows, which was previously totally broken.
On Linux, SIGSTOP is used to stop the debuggee process. LLDB stopped the debuggee alright. But when
lldb-mi received the notification of stopping with reason as SIGSTOP, it would resume the process.
This was heppening in CMICmnLLDBDebuggerHandleEvents::HandleProcessEventStopSignal. This function aslo
used hard coded numbers for signal istead of symbolic names.
This revision changes code to treat SIGSTOP reason as SIGINT. Also used symbolic names for signals
instead of numbers.
GetVariableInfo () collected the values of the variable in a list. But it also
tried to generate the name/value pairs for children. This caused generation of
a wrong value string for may items. This function has been fixed to put value in
The handling of --print-value related option has been moved to caller.
GetVariableInfo2 and MIResponseFormVariableInfo3 have been removed. They were
almost the duplicate of functions of similar names. I dont see any difference in
the output of -stack-list-locals and -stack-list-arguments. So these functions
just seemed unnecessary.
Char variable was being printed as a string which caused garbage output. This has
been fixed.
Some misc. cleanup.
Test cases have been added that check -stack-list-locals for struct, array and
pointers. Modified other tests which depended on hard coded line numbers.
Ilia K 98bdc6418f Fix CMIUtilString::SplitConsiderQuotes (MI)
Summary:
This method doesn't work properly. Here is an example:
```
CMIUtilString test("\"hello\" \"\\\" world \\\" !\"");
CMIUtilString::VecString_t res;
test.SplitConsiderQuotes(" ", res);
```
Before this patch the result was as following:
```
(lldb) print res
(CMIUtilString::VecString_t) $1 = size=4 {
  [0] = (std::__1::string = "\"hello\"")
  [1] = (std::__1::string = "\"\\\"")
  [2] = (std::__1::string = "world")
  [3] = (std::__1::string = "\\\" !\"")
}
```
This patch fixes that error and now it looks like following:
```
(lldb) print res
(CMIUtilString::VecString_t) $1 = size=2 {
  [0] = (std::__1::string = "\"hello\"")
  [1] = (std::__1::string = "\"\\\" world \\\" !\"")
}
```
Hafiz Abid Qadeer 93ad6b31ec Fix a handling of full path in break-insert.
For some time, eclipse (CDT) uses full path of the file in break-insert command
when putting breakpoint on a source line. On windows, a typical command looks
like the following.
56-break-insert -f F:\\work\\ws\\test\\main.c:49
Current implementation in lldb-mi have problem in 2 ways.
1. It was assuming that there will be only one : in the path which is wrong if full
path is supplied.
2. CDT sends out path with double backslashes in windows which gives error on
Hafiz Abid Qadeer d1f606ff0f Fix a race condition in lldb-mi.
lldb-mi has 3 threads.
1. One that waits for user intput.
2. Another waits for 1st thread to get input command.
3. Waits for events from lldb.
2 & 3 needs to be synchronized so that they don't end up
doing things at same time. For example, while "break insert" is
processing, we can get a breakpoint event. Depending on where we
are in "break-insert", it can have different behavior. In some
cases, it can cause breakpoint to be deleted too. I have added a
mutex so that command processing and event processing are done
exclusively and they are not running at the same time.
In longer term, I think thread 2 & 3 should be merged to be only
one thread which can wait on command or events.
When it runs, lldb-mi creates a log file. There is an option --noLog
This commit tried to fix the problem in the following way.
Log file generation is disabled by default.
You can enable it by giving --log option. It is the only way to enable
it. Rest of the call have been removed.
So the code basically remove the calls that enable the log
unconditionally and changes the option --noLog to --log.
Hafiz Abid Qadeer fcbc3cdf3c Replace ioctl with select to reduce processor usage by lldb-mi on OSX.
This saga started with a hang on OSX. 2 solutions were proposed.
1) 'select' based solution works ok on OSX but slows down test completion time
on Linux many times.
2) 'ioctl' base solution also works but it causes heavy processor usage on OSX
as reported by Ilia K.
But as the original hang did not occur on Linux so this commit re-introduces the
'select' in conditional code so that it only runs for OSX. There is no need for
this 'fix' to run on Linux.
2014-12-15 19:09:40 +00:00
Greg Clayton a97c4d2154 Handle thumb IT instructions correctly all the time.
The issue with Thumb IT (if/then) instructions is the IT instruction preceeds up to four instructions that are made conditional. If a breakpoint is placed on one of the conditional instructions, the instruction either needs to match the thumb opcode size (2 or 4 bytes) or a BKPT instruction needs to be used as these are always unconditional (even in a IT instruction). If BKPT instructions are used, then we might end up stopping on an instruction that won't get executed. So if we do stop at a BKPT instruction, we need to continue if the condition is not true.
When using the BKPT isntructions are easy in that you don't need to detect the size of the breakpoint that needs to be used when setting a breakpoint even in a thumb IT instruction. The bad part is you will now always stop at the opcode location and let LLDB determine if it should auto-continue. If the BKPT instruction is used, the BKPT that is used for ARM code should be something that also triggers the BKPT instruction in Thumb in case you set a breakpoint in the middle of code and the code is actually Thumb code. A value of 0xE120BE70 will work since the lower 16 bits being 0xBE70 happens to be a Thumb BKPT instruction.
The alternative is to use trap or illegal instructions that the kernel will translate into breakpoint hits. On Mac this was 0xE7FFDEFE for ARM and 0xDEFE for Thumb. The darwin kernel currently doesn't recognize any 32 bit Thumb instruction as a instruction that will get turned into a breakpoint exception (EXC_BREAKPOINT), so we had to use the BKPT instruction on Mac. The linux kernel recognizes a 16 and a 32 bit instruction as valid thumb breakpoint opcodes. The benefit of using 16 or 32 bit instructions is you don't stop on opcodes in a IT block when the condition doesn't match.
To further complicate things, single stepping on ARM is often implemented by modifying the BCR/BVR registers and setting the processor to stop when the PC is not equal to the current value. This means single stepping is another way the ARM target can stop on instructions that won't get executed.
This patch does the following:
1 - Fix the internal debugserver for Apple to use the BKPT instruction for ARM and Thumb
2 - Fix LLDB to catch when we stop in the middle of a Thumb IT instruction and continue if we stop at an instruction that won't execute
3 - Fixes this in a way that will work for any target on any platform as long as it is ARM/Thumb
4 - Adds a patch for ignoring conditions that don't match when in ARM mode (see below)
This patch also provides the code that implements the same thing for ARM instructions, though it is disabled for now. The ARM patch will check the condition of the instruction in ARM mode and continue if the condition isn't true (and therefore the instruction would not be executed). Again, this is not enable, but the code for it has been added.
Jason Molenda e589e7e336 The lldb unwinder can now use the unwind information from the compact-unwind
section for x86_64 and i386 targets on Darwin systems.  Currently only the
compact unwind encoding for normal frame-using functions is supported but it
will be easy handle frameless functions when I have a bit more free time to
test it.  The LSDA and personality routines for functions are also retrieved
correctly for functions from the compact unwind section.
This new code is very fresh -- it passes the lldb testsuite and I've done
by-hand inspection of many functions and am getting correct behavior for all
of them.  There may need to be some bug fixing over the next couple weeks as
I exercise and test it further.  But I think it's fine right now so I'm
Jason Molenda c9acfeb55b The finishing touches on getting the compact unwind dumping completed
for x86_64.  i386, arm, arm64 aren't handled yet but those are minor
variations on this format.
This commit also adds code to read the symbol table out of the
binary and read the LC_FUNCTION_STARTS to augment the symbol table
with the start addresses of all the functions - and print the
function names when showing the unwind info.
Jason Molenda 671001cc66 A little more work on the compact unwind dumper.
UNWIND_X86_64_MODE_STACK_IND mode is almost correct; extra stack
space allocated before the reg saves isn't handled right.  Still a
little wobbily on the file addresses of functions.  Finally understand
how the 6 registers that may be saved are ordered in just 10 its
of space -- the Lehmer code for the registers is derived and then
the sequence is encoded in a variable base number.  Added some
comments with references to what the code is doing so it'll be
easier for others to track down.
Jason Molenda b412e529e2 Add a little sketch of a program that can extract unwind
information from the compact unwind section used on darwin
for exception handling, and dump that information..
The UNWIND_X86_64_MODE_RBP_FRAME and UNWIND_X86_64_MODE_DWARF
entries look to be handled correctly.
UNWIND_X86_64_MODE_STACK_IMMD and UNWIND_X86_64_MODE_STACK_IND
are still a work in progress.
Only x86_64 is supported right now.  Given that this is an
experiment in parsing the section contents, I don't expect to
add other architectures; they are trivial variations on this
arch.  There exists a real dumper included in the Xcode tools,
unwinddump.
Jim Ingham ffc9f1de34 This adds a "batch mode" to lldb kinda like the gdb batch mode. It will quit the debugger
after all the commands have been executed except if one of the commands was an execution control
command that stopped because of a signal or exception.
Also adds a variant of SBCommandInterpreter::HandleCommand that takes an SBExecutionContext.  That
way you can run an lldb command targeted at a particular target, thread or process w/o having to
select same before running the command.
Also exposes CommandInterpreter::HandleCommandsFromFile to the SBCommandInterpreter API, since that
seemed generally useful.
Jim Ingham 26c7bf9312 Rework the way we pass "run multiple command" options to the various API's that
do that (RunCommandInterpreter, HandleCommands, HandleCommandsFromFile) to gather
the options into an options class.  Also expose that to the SB API's.
Change the way the "-o" options to the lldb driver are processed so:
1) They are run synchronously - didn't really make any sense to run the asynchronously.
2) The stop on error
3) "quit" in one of the -o commands will not quit lldb - not the command interpreter
that was running the -o commands.
I added an entry to the run options to stop-on-crash, but I haven't implemented that yet.
Saleem Abdulrasool 9e5b49831c driver: handle write error better
We would previously simply assume that the write would always succeed.  However,
write(2) may return -1 for error as well as fail to perform a complete write (in
which case the returned number of bytes will be less than the requested bytes).
Explicitly check if an error condition is encountered.  This would previously
not be caught as we default initialized success to true.  Add an assertion that
we always perform a complete write (a continuous retry could be added to ensure
that we finish writing completely).
This was caught by GCC's signed comparison warning and manual inspection.
Todd Fiala 737f43628a llgs: remove all Initialize() calls except for Debugger::Initialize().
See thread here:
http://lists.cs.uiuc.edu/pipermail/lldb-commits/Week-of-Mon-20140825/012580.html
The original change I made there was due to a segfault.  That was
caused by me directly calling PluginManager::Initialize (), with
PluginManager::Initialize() depending on HostInfo::Initialize () to
have been called already (which it wasn't).
The call to PluginManager::Initialize () was erroneous (at least at the
implementation.
Jim Ingham 6008924508 Rework fix in r201744. You really DO need to waitpid twice to get the
process fully reaped.  The race & bad behavior was because we were letting
the reaping thread in LLDB to also set the Process exit status, so debugserver
would sometimes be shut down before it got a chance to report the exit status,
and then we got confused.
Jason Molenda 705b180964 Initial merge of some of the iOS 8 / Mac OS X Yosemite specific
lldb support.  I'll be doing more testing & cleanup but I wanted to
get the initial checkin done.
This adds a new SBExpressionOptions::SetLanguage API for selecting a
language of an expression.
I added adds a new SBThread::GetInfoItemByPathString for retriving
information about a thread from that thread's StructuredData.
I added a new StructuredData class for representing
key-value/array/dictionary information (e.g. JSON formatted data).
Helper functions to read JSON and create a StructuredData object,
and to print a StructuredData object in JSON format are included.
A few Cocoa / Cocoa Touch data formatters were updated by Enrico
to track changes in iOS 8 / Yosemite.
Before we query a thread's extended information, the system runtime may
provide hints to the remote debug stub that it will use to retrieve values
out of runtime structures.  I added a new SystemRuntime method
AddThreadExtendedInfoPacketHints which allows the SystemRuntime to add
key-value type data to the initial request that we send to the remote stub.
The thread-format formatter string can now retrieve values out of a thread's
extended info structured data.  The default thread-format string picks up
two of these - thread.info.activity.name and thread.info.trace_messages.
I added a new "jThreadExtendedInfo" packet in debugserver; I will
add documentation to the lldb-gdb-remote.txt doc soon.  It accepts
JSON formatted arguments (most importantly, "thread":threadnum) and
it returns a variety of information regarding the thread to lldb
in JSON format.  This JSON return is scanned into a StructuredData
object that is associated with the thread; UI layers can query the
thread's StructuredData to see if key-values are present, and if
so, show them to the user.  These key-values are likely to be
specific to different targets with some commonality among many
targets.  For instance, many targets will be able to advertise the
pthread_t value for a thread.
I added an initial rough cut of "thread info" command which will print
the information about a thread from the jThreadExtendedInfo result.
I need to do more work to make this format reasonably.
Han Ming added calls into the pmenergy and pmsample libraries if
debugserver is run on Mac OS X Yosemite to get information about the
inferior's power use.
I added support to debugserver for gathering the Genealogy information
about threads, if it exists, and returning it in the jThreadExtendedInfo
JSON result.
Greg Clayton 7ab7f89ae0 iOS simulator cleanup to make sure we use "*-apple-ios" for iOS simulator apps and binaries.
Changes include:
- ObjectFileMachO can now determine if a binary is "*-apple-ios" or "*-apple-macosx" by checking the min OS and SDK load commands
- ArchSpec now says "<arch>-apple-macosx" is equivalent to "<arch>-apple-ios" since the simulator mixes and matches binaries (some from the system and most from the iOS SDK).
- Getting process inforamtion on MacOSX now correctly classifies iOS simulator processes so they have "*-apple-ios" architectures in the ProcessInstanceInfo
- PlatformiOSSimulator can now list iOS simulator processes correctly instead of showing nothing by using:
    (lldb) platform select ios-simulator
    (lldb) platform process list
- debugserver can now properly return "*-apple-ios" for the triple in the process info packets for iOS simulator executables
- GDBRemoteCommunicationClient now correctly passes along the triples it gets for process info by setting the OS in the llvm::Triple correctly
Todd Fiala 9f72b3a1ce Modify debugserver to follow gdb remote $qC protocol definition.
$qC from debugserver now returns the current thread's thread-id (and, like $?, will set a current thread if one is not already selected).  Previously it was returning the current process id.
lldb will now query $qProcessInfo to retrieve the process id.  The process id is now cached lazily and reset like other cached values.  Retrieval of the process id will fall back to the old $qC method for vendor==Apple and os==iOS if the qProcessInfo retrieval fails.
Added a gdb remote protocol-level test to verify that $qProcessInfo reports a valid process id after launching a process, while the process is in the initial stopped state.  Verifies the given process id is a currently valid process on host OSes for which we know how to check (MacOSX, Linux, {Free/Net}BSD).  Ignores the live process check for OSes where we don't know how to do this.  (I saw no portable way to do this in stock Python without pulling in other libs).
lldb-gdbserver now takes an optional --platform={platform_plugin_name}
specified, the default platform for the host is used; otherwise, if
the platform_plugin_name matches a registered platform plugin or
matches the default platform's name (which is not necessarily
registered by name in the case of 'host'), that platform is used. If
the platform name cannot be resolved, lldb-gdbserver exits after
printing all the available platform plugin names and the default
platform plugin name.
commandline-specified startup app (if one is specified).
LaunchProcess () also adds a new reaper monitor that it applies to
the launched process if no process monitor has already been applied.
This addresses an issue where the 'k' command would generate (possibly
false) warnings about not being able to positively state whether a
killed process actually terminated. GDBRemoteCommunicationServer now
definitely knows the disposition of its children.
Todd Fiala 403edc5c57 Move process launching into GDBRemoteCommunicationServer.
lldb-gdbserver was launching the commandline-specified launch process
directly, without GDBRemoteCommunicationServer knowing anything about
it.  As GDBRemoteCommunicationServer is the piece that manages and
knows about processes that the gdb remote protocol discusses with
the client end, it is important that it know about launched processes.
This change also implements the k gdb remote protocol message, having it
kill all known spawned processes when it is received.
(Note: in lldb-gdbserver, the spawned processes are not properly
monitored yet. The response to the k packet will complain that
spawned processes do not really appear to be getting killed even if
they are. This will get addressed soon.)
Todd Fiala 4bd862206a Add --lldb-command command-line option to lldb-gdbserver
lldb-gdbserver now takes zero or more --lldb-command {command} options
that get executed by the command interpreter prior to starting up
a child debuggee process.  The short form is -c {command}.  This is
similar to how lldb-platform works.
This command can be used to enable logging in more than just the
gdb-remote log channel.  Here is an example startup sequence that allows
logging of lldb host and process log categories to one file and
gdb-remote packets to another file:
lldb-gdbserver -c 'log enable -f lgs.log lldb process host' \
  -c 'log enable -f lgs_packets.log gdb-remote packets' \
Todd Fiala f3d61de532 Enable Linux distribution in vendor portion of host triple.
This change does the following:
* enables building lldb-gdbserver on linux_x86-64 platforms.
  Note - it builds but it has several run-time issues where many gdb
  remote protocol features are not properly implemented yet. I'm
  working on these one at a time.
* lldb-gdbserver: does not enable the eLaunchFlagDebug launch flag on
  Linux. Currently the POSIX launch routine will assert if that flag
  is passed in, presumably because that launch mode is not yet
  available.  This prevents lldb-gdbserver from asserting the moment
  it launches the debuggee process.
* Adds ConstString& Host::GetDistributionId ()
  This method is defined to return an empty result on all platforms
  except for Linux.  On Linux, it makes one attempt to execute
  'lsb_release -i' (both /usr/bin/lsb_release, where it appears
  on ubuntu, and /bin/lsb_release, where it appears on fedora
  if the redhat-lsb package is installed).  If lsb_release is not
  found in either of those locations, or if 'lsb_release -i' does
  not return the first line starting with "Distributor ID:\t",
  then the distribution id is empty.  The method will lower-case
  the id and replace whitespace with underscores.
* Modify Host::GetArchitecture () so that linux replaces an unknown
  vendor portion with the results of GetDistributionId () if that
  is non-empty.  This shows up now in qHostInfo remote packet
  responses and on the lldb host side.  Tested with ubuntu and
  fedora (the latter both with the default of not having lsb_release
  installed, and with having lsb_release installed via the redhat-lsb
  package).
  Examples of triples on Linux after this change:
    # x86_64 Unbuntu 12.04 LTS:
    x86_64-ubuntu-linux-gnu
    # x86_64 Fedora 20 Desktop with redhat-lsb package installed
    x86_64-fedora-linux-gnu
    # x86_64 Fedora 20 Desktop without redhat-lsb-core installed
    # (i.e. no /bin/lsb_release available)
    # same as before the change
    x86_64--linux-gnu
  Note I intend to have Android respond with:
    {arch}-android-linux
  when I get to implementing Android lldb-gdbserver support.
Greg Clayton 00fe87b488 Modified local spawning in debugserver processes to use a new --reverse-connect option so that debugserver actually connects back to LLDB instead of LLDB connecting to debugserver.
This gets rid of our hacky "get_random_port()" which would grab a random port and tell debugserver to open that port. Now LLDB creates, binds, listens and accepts a connection by binding to port zero and sending the correctly bound port down as the host:port to connect back to.
Fixed the "ConnectionFileDescriptor" to be able to correctly listen for connections from a specified host, localhost, or any host. Prior to this fix "listen://" only accepted the following format:
listen://<port>
But now it can accept:
listen://<port>         // Listen for connection from localhost on port <port>
listen://<host>:<port>  // Listen for connection from <host> and <port>
listen://*:<port>       // Listen for connection from any host on port <port>
Greg Clayton 5fb8f79738 Fixed internal code to not link against and code from "lldb/API/*".
lldb_private::Debugger was #including some "lldb/API" header files which causes tools (lldb-platform and lldb-gdbserver) that link against the internals only (no API layer) to fail to link depending on which calls were being used.
Also fixed the current working directory so that it gets set correctly for remote test suite runs. Now the remote working directory is set to: "ARCH/TESTNUM/..." where ARCH is the current architecture name and "TESTNUM" is the current test number.
Fixed the "lldb-platform" and "lldb-gdbserver" to not warn about mismatched visibility settings by having each have their own exports file which contains nothing. This forces all symbols to not be exported, and also quiets the linker warnings.
Greg Clayton fb90931b60 Improved platform support.
Improved the detection of a valid GDB server where we actually can connect to a socket, but then it doesn't read or write anything (which happens with some USB mux software).
Host::MakeDirectory() now can make as many intermediate directories as needed.
The testsuite now has very initial support for remote test suite running. When running on a remote platform, the setUp function for the test will make a new directory and select it as the working directory on the remote host.
Greg Clayton be94a04055 Start the correct host abstraction of process and thread.
Added a new "Host/Debug.h" which contains the pure virtual class definitions for NativeProcessProtocol and NativeThreadProtocol. These classes are host layer classes that, over time, every host that supports debugging will implement once.
Then the new "lldb-gdbserver" binary in the tools directory will be able to make a remote debugging binary from these native classes, and we will also be able to have a new lldb_private::Process class that implements native debugging using these classes.
So as soon as linux and MacOSX switch over to using this layer, everyone will get native and remote debugging.
This check-in is primarily to get the needed code in so that poeple can start trying to implement the NativeProcessProtocol and NativeThreadProtocol and use it in the GDBRemoteCommunicationServer class to implement a GDB server for remote debugging.
Greg Clayton 29b8fc4da9 Added new options to lldb-platform:
--gdbserver-port PORT
    --min-gdbserver-port PORT
    --max-gdbserver-port PORT
The --gdbserver-port option can be specified multiple times to tell lldb-platform which ports it can use when launching child GDB server processes.
The --min-gdbserver-port and --max-gdbserver-port options allow a range of ports to be specified for use when launching child GDB server processes.
Fixed the code to manage these ports correctly in GDBRemoteCommunicationServer.
Also changed GDBRemoteCommunicationClient to not set a port when sending the "qLaunchGDBServer" packet so that the remote lldb-platform can decide which ports to use. If the lldb-platform was launched with no --gdbserver-port or --min-gdbserver-port/--max-gdbserver-port options, then port 0 is always used and a unix socket is used between the lldb-platform and child GDB server process to coordinate the use of valid port.
    src = lldb.SBFileSpec("/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/SharedFrameworks/LLDB.framework", False)
    dst = lldb.SBFileSpec()
    # copy src to platform working directory since "dst" is empty
    err = remote_platform.Install(src, dst);
    if err.Success():
        print >> result, '%s installed successfully' % (src)
    else:
        print >> result, 'error: failed to install "%s": %s' % (src, err)
Implemented many calls needed in lldb-platform to be able to install a directory that contains symlinks, file and directories.
The remote lldb-platform can now launch GDB servers on the remote system so that remote debugging can be spawned through the remote platform when connected to a remote platform.
The API in SBPlatform is subject to change and will be getting many new functions.
Added two new GDB server packets to debugserver: "QSaveRegisterState" and "QRestoreRegiterState".
"QSaveRegisterState" makes the remote GDB server save all register values and it returns a save identifier as an unsigned integer. This packet can be used prior to running expressions to save all registers.
All registers can them we later restored with "QRestoreRegiterState:SAVEID" what SAVEID is the integer identifier that was returned from the call to QSaveRegisterState.
Cleaned up redundant code in lldb_private::Thread, lldb_private::ThreadPlanCallFunction.
Moved the lldb_private::Thread::RegisterCheckpoint into its own header file and it is now in the lldb_private namespace. Trimmed down the RegisterCheckpoint class to omit stuff that wasn't used (the stack ID).
Daniel Malea e0f8f574c7 merge lldb-platform-work branch (and assorted fixes) into trunk
Summary:
    This merge brings in the improved 'platform' command that knows how to
    interface with remote machines; that is, query OS/kernel information, push
    and pull files, run shell commands, etc... and implementation for the new
    communication packets that back that interface, at least on Darwin based
    operating systems via the POSIXPlatform class. Linux support is coming soon.
    Verified the test suite runs cleanly on Linux (x86_64), build OK on Mac OS
    Additional improvements (not in the source SVN branch 'lldb-platform-work'):
    - cmake build scripts for lldb-platform
    - cleanup test suite
    - documentation stub for qPlatform_RunCommand
    - use log class instead of printf() directly
    - reverted work-in-progress-looking changes from test/types/TestAbstract.py that work towards running the test suite remotely.
Sylvestre Ledru 594058394e Following the modification introduced in llvm by commit 185311
The build system is currently miss-identifying GNU/kFreeBSD as FreeBSD.
This kind of simplification is sometimes useful, but in general it's not correct.
As GNU/kFreeBSD is an hybrid system, for kernel-related issues we want to match the
build definitions used for FreeBSD, whereas for userland-related issues we want to
match the definitions used for other systems with Glibc.
The current modification adjusts the build system so that they can be distinguished,
and explicitly adds GNU/kFreeBSD to the build checks in which it belongs.
Fixes bug #16446.
Greg Clayton d8cf1a119d Huge performance improvements when one breakpoint contains many locations.
325,000 breakpoints for running "breakpoint set --func-regex ." on lldb itself (after hitting a breakpoint at main so that LLDB.framework is loaded) used to take up to an hour to set, now we are down under a minute. With warm file caches, we are at 40 seconds, and that is with setting 325,000 breakpoint through the GDB remote API. Linux and the native debuggers might be faster. I haven't timed what how much is debug info parsing and how much is the protocol traffic to/from GDB remote.
That there were many performance issues. Most of them were due to storing breakpoints in the wrong data structures, or using the wrong iterators to traverse the lists, traversing the lists in inefficient ways, and not optimizing certain function name lookups/symbol merges correctly.
Debugging after that is also now very efficient. There were issues with replacing the breakpoint opcodes in memory that was read, and those routines were also fixed.
The "lldb" driver was interfering with STDOUT and STDERR if the output was over 1024 charcters long. The output was grabbing 1024 characters at a time, before it output the characters, it was writing characters to the screen to clear the current line. This has been fixed.
I also fixed the command interpreter from mixing the "(lldb) " prompt in with program output by always manually checking for program output. This was done by having the command interpreter know when it is in the middle of executing a command by setting a bool. This was needed since sometimes when a command would run the target, like with a command like 'expression (int)printf("hello\n")', the process would push a new input reader, and then pop it when it was done. This popping of the input reader would cause the command interpreter to get sent a reactivated message (from the private process state thread) and cause it to ask for another command, even though we were still in the middle of the command ('expression (int)printf("hello\n")'). Now we set a bool to true, run the command and set the bool to false. If we get reactivated while we are in the middle of a command, we don't say we are ready for a new command. This coupled with emitting the STDOUT/STDERR first after each command, followed by the command results, followed by then saying we are ready for a new command, should help cleanup the command line output on all platforms.
Greg Clayton e01e07b6e7 Since we use C++11, we should switch over to using std::unique_ptr when C++11 is being used. To do this, we follow what we have done for shared pointers and we define a STD_UNIQUE_PTR macro that can be used and it will "do the right thing". Due to some API differences in std::unique_ptr and due to the fact that we need to be able to compile without C++11, we can't use move semantics so some code needed to change so that it can compile with either C++.
Anyone wanting to use a unique_ptr or auto_ptr should now use the "STD_UNIQUE_PTR(TYPE)" macro.
In doing this fix, I hardened this class to have weak pointers to the debugger and target in case they do go away. I also changed SBSourceManager to hold onto weak pointers to the debugger and target so they don't keep objects alive by holding a strong reference to them.
- don't use preprocessor macros
- use switch statements
- don't put anything in the lldb namespace, use "lldb_perf" namespace.
Jason Molenda 1ad66dbae4 Various fixes for armv7 floating point/vector register support.
Drop the old f registers from debugserver's register list.  Add the
NEON 128-bit q registers to debugserver, support reading and writing.
Add the new contains / invalidates mappings for the s, d, and q
registers so lldb will know what registers overlay what other registers.
Change the default format of s and d registers to be floating point
instead of hex.  Remove some UTF-8 hyphen chars in comments in the ARM
register number definition headers.
Enrico Granata f58cececaa Initial checkin of a new project: LLDB Performance Testing Infrastructure
This is a very basic implementation of a library that easily allows to drive LLDB.framework to write test cases for performance
This is separate from the LLDB testsuite in test/ in that:
a) this uses C++ instead of Python to avoid measures being affected by SWIG
b) this is in very early development and needs lots of tweaking before it can be considered functionally complete
c) this is not meant to test correctness but to help catch performance regressions
There is a sample application built against the library (in darwin/sketch) that uses the famous sample app Sketch as an inferior to measure certain basic parameters of LLDB's behavior.
The resulting output is a PLIST much like the following:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
<plist version="1.0">
<array>
	<dict>
		<key>fetch-frames</key>
		<real>0.13161715522222225</real>
	</dict>
	<dict>
		<key>file-line-bkpt</key>
		<real>0.029111678750000002</real>
	<dict>
		<key>run-expr</key>
		<real>0.029676525769230768</real>
	</dict>
</array>
</plist>
Areas for improvement:
- code cleanups (I will be out of the office for a couple days this coming week, but please keep ideas coming!)
- more metrics and test cases
- better error checking
This toolkit also comprises a simple event-loop-driven controller for LLDB, similar yet much simpler to what the Driver does to implement the lldb command-line tool.
