Summary:
Add tests for selection across basic block boundary:
* one test containing a buffer load, where part of the offset
computation is placed in the predecessor of the load
* similar test, but containing two buffer loads and shared
computations
Please note that the behaviour being tested will be updated in
a subsequent commit.

When lowering a load or store for TypeWidenVector, the type legalizer
would use a single load or store if the associated integer type was legal
or promoted. E.g. it loads a v4i8 as an i32 if i32 is legal/promotable.
(See https://reviews.llvm.org/rL236528 for reference.)
This applies that behaviour to vector types. If the vector type is
TypePromoteInteger, the element type is going to be TypePromoteInteger
as well, which will lead to have a single promoting load rather than N
individual promoting loads. For instance, if we have a v3i1, we would
now have a load of v4i1 instead of 3 loads of i1.

The artifact combiners push instructions which have been marked for deletion
onto an list for the legalizer to deal with on return. However, for trunc(ext)
combines the combiner routine recursively calls itself. When it does this the
dead instructions list may not be empty, and the other combiners don't expect
to be dealing with essentially invalid MIR (multiple vreg defs etc).
This change fixes it by ensuring that the dead instructions are processed on
entry into tryCombineInstruction.
As a result, this fix exposed a few places in tests where G_TRUNC instructions
were not being deleted even though they were dead.

This reapplies r356149, using the correct overload of findUnusedReg
which passes the current iterator.
This worked most of the time, because the scavenger iterator was moved
at the end of the frame index loop in PEI. This would fail if the
spill was the first instruction. This was further hidden by the fact
that the scavenger wasn't passed in for normal frame index
elimination.

This patch removes an overly conservative check that would prevent
simplifying copies when the value we were tracking would go through
several subregister indices.
Indeed, the intend of this check was to not track values whenever
we have to compose subregister, but actually what the check was
doing was bailing anytime we see a second subreg, even if that
second subreg would actually be the new source of truth (as opposed
to a part of that subreg).

I think this is correct, but may not necessarily be the correct fix
for the assertion I'm really trying to solve. If a scheduling region
was found that only has dbg_value instructions, the RegPressure
tracker would end up in an inconsistent state because it would skip
over any debug instructions and point to an instruction outside of the
scheduling region. It may still be possible for this to happen if
there are some real schedulable instructions between dbg_values, but I
haven't managed to break this.
The testcase is extremely sensitive and I'm not sure how to make it
more resistent to future scheduler changes that would avoid stressing
this situation.

Some image ops return three or five dwords. Previously, we modeled that
with a 4 or 8 dword register class. The register allocator could
cleverly spot that some subregs were dead and allocate something else
there, but that caused the de-optimization that waitcnt insertion would
think that the result was used immediately.
This commit allows such an image op to have a result with a three or
five dword result, avoiding the above de-optimization.

Increase the default generation for HSA to avoid the encoding error

This has been a very painful missing feature that has made producing
reduced testcases difficult. In particular the various registers
determined for stack access during function lowering were necessary to
avoid undefined register errors in a large percentage of
cases. Implement a subset of the important fields that need to be
preserved for AMDGPU.
Most of the changes are to support targets parsing register fields and
properly reporting errors. The biggest sort-of bug remaining is for
fields that can be initialized from the IR section will be overwritten
by a default initialized machineFunctionInfo section. Another
remaining bug is the machineFunctionInfo section is still printed even

This is consistent with what SelectionDAG does and is much easier to

For the AMDGPU control flow intrinsics, this was producing an s128 for

indicate it should apply to. I scanned other target intrinsics, but I

When matching half of the build_vector to a load, there could still be
a hidden dependency on the other half of the build_vector the pattern
wouldn't detect. If there was an additional chain dependency on the
other value, a cycle could be introduced.
I don't think a tablegen pattern is capable of matching the necessary
conditions, so move this into PreprocessISelDAG. Check isPredecessorOf
for the other value to avoid a cycle. This has a warning that it's
expensive, so this should probably be moved into an MI pass eventually
that will have more freedom to reorder instructions to help match
this. That is currently complicated by the lack of a computeKnownBits
type mechanism for the selected function.
llvm-svn: 355731
This avoids breaking possible value dependencies when sorting loads by
offset.
AMDGPU has some load instructions that write into the high or low bits
of the destination register, and have a tied input for the other input
bits. These can easily have the same base pointer, but be a swizzle so
the high address load needs to come first. This was inserting glue
forcing the opposite ordering, producing a cycle the InstrEmitter
would assert on. It may be potentially expensive to look for the
dependency between the other loads, so just skip any where this could
happen.
Fixes bug 40936 by reverting r351379, which added a hacky attempt to
fix this by adding chains in this case, which I think was just working
around broken glue before the InstrEmitter. The core of the patch is
re-implementing the fix for that problem.

At the moment, we mark every atomic memory access as being also volatile. This is unnecessarily conservative and prohibits many legal transforms (DCE, folding, etc..).
This patch removes MOVolatile from the MachineMemOperands of atomic, but not volatile, instructions. This should be strictly NFC after a series of previous patches which have gone in to ensure backend code is conservative about handling of isAtomic MMOs. Once it's in and baked for a bit, we'll start working through removing unnecessary bailouts one by one. We applied this same strategy to the middle end a few years ago, with good success.
To make sure this patch itself is NFC, it is build on top of a series of other patches which adjust code to (for the moment) be as conservative for an atomic access as for a volatile access and build up a test corpus (mostly in test/CodeGen/X86/atomics-unordered.ll)..

Summary:
This is a follow-up to D57510. This patch stops DebugHandlerBase from
changing the starting label for the first non-overlapping,
register-described parameter DBG_VALUEs to the beginning of the
function. That code did not consider what defined the registers, which
could result in the ranges for the debug values starting before their
defining instructions. We currently do not emit debug values for
constant values directly at the start of the function, so this code is
still useful for such values, but my intention is to remove the code
from DebugHandlerBase completely when we get there. One reason for
removing it is that the code violates the history map's ranges, which I
think can make it quite confusing when troubleshooting.
In D57510, PrologEpilogInserter was amended so that parameter DBG_VALUEs
now are kept at the start of the entry block, even after emission of
prologue code. That was done to reduce the degradation of debug
completeness from this patch. PR40638 is another example, where the
lexical-scope trimming that LDV does, in combination with scheduling,
results in instructions after the prologue being left without locations.
There might be other cases where the DBG_VALUEs are pushed further down,
for which the DebugHandlerBase code may be helpful, but as it now quite
often result in incorrect locations, even after the prologue, it seems
better to remove that code, and try to work our way up with accurate
locations.
In the long run we should maybe not aim to provide accurate locations
inside the prologue. Some single location descriptions, at least those
referring to stack values, generate inaccurate values inside the
epilogue, so we maybe should not aim to achieve accuracy for location
lists. However, it seems that we now emit line number programs that can
result in GDB and LLDB stopping inside the prologue when doing line
number stepping into functions. See PR40188 for more information.
A summary of some of the changed test cases is available in PR40188#c2.

dpp move with uses and old reg initializer should be in the same BB.
bound_ctrl:0 is only considered when bank_mask and row_mask are fully enabled (0xF). Otherwise the old register value is checked for identity.
Added add, subrev, and, or instructions to the old folding function.
Kill flag is cleared for the src0 (DPP register) as it may be copied into more than one user.
The pass is still disabled by default.

This is part of https://bugs.llvm.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40442.
Vector legalization is implemented for the add/sub overflow opcodes.
UMULO/SMULO are also handled as far as legalization is concerned, but
they don't support vector expansion yet (so no tests for them).
The vector result widening implementation is suboptimal, because it
could result in a legalization loop.

llvm-svn: 353464
This is pretty much directly ported from SelectionDAG. Doesn't include
the shift by non-constant but known bits version, since there isn't a
globalisel version of computeKnownBits yet.
This shows a disadvantage of targets not specifically which type
should be used for the shift amount. If type 0 is legalized before
type 1, the operations on the shift amount type use the wider type
(which are also less likely to legalize). This can be avoided by
targets specifying legalization actions on type 1 earlier than for
type 0.
llvm-svn: 353455
Introduce a new function which handles instructions with multiple type
indices, but have the same number of vector elements.
Also legalize v2s16 shifts when applicable.

llvm-svn: 353207
The v2i64 argument is lowered to a bitcast of v4i32 build_vector.
This would then attempt to use the i32-element as the source of the
vector truncate. This really would need to collect 2 elements from the
build_vector to produce the intended truncate.
llvm-svn: 353202
The fewerElementsVectors implementation for load/stores
handles the scalar reduction case just as well, so drop
the redundant code in narrowScalar. This also introduces
support for narrowing irregular size breakdowns for
scalars.
llvm-svn: 353125
Don't handle vector conditions.
I think this can be merged in the future with
fewerElementsVectorSelect, although this becomes slightly tricky with
a vector condition.
llvm-svn: 353122
Try to use the underlying source registers.
This enables legalization in more cases where some irregular
operations are widened and others narrowed.
This seems to make the test_combines_2 AArch64 test worse, since the
MERGE_VALUES has multiple uses. Since this should be required for
legalization, a hasOneUse check is probably inappropriate (or maybe
should only be used if the merge is legal?).
llvm-svn: 353121
A number of of tests were using imm operands, not cimm. Since CSE
relies on the exact ConstantInt* pointer used, and implicit
conversions are generally evil, also enforce the bitsize of the types.
llvm-svn: 353113
For the scalar case only.
Also move the similar G_MERGE_VALUES handling to a separate function
and cleanup to make them look more similar.

Summary:
Incorrect code was generated when lowering insertelement operations
for vectors with 8 or 16 bit elements. The value being inserted was
not adjusted for the position of the element within the 32 bit word
and so only the low element within each 32 bit word could receive
the intended value.
Fixed by simply replicating the value to each element of a
congruent vector before the mask and or operation used to
update the intended element.
A number of affected LIT tests have been updated appropriately.

This is meant to be used with clang's __builtin_dynamic_object_size.
When 'true' is passed to this parameter, the intrinsic has the
potential to be folded into instructions that will be evaluated
at run time. When 'false', the objectsize intrinsic behaviour is
unchanged.

This was ignoring the memory size, and producing multiple loads/stores

I assume this is the intent of not having an explicit G_ANYEXTLOAD

Since these pass the pointer in m0 unlike other DS instructions, these
need to worry about whether the address is uniform or not. This
assumes the address is dynamically uniform, and just uses
readfirstlane to get a copy into an SGPR.
I don't know if these have the same 16-bit add for the addressing mode
offset problem on SI or not, but I've just assumed they do.
Also includes some misc. changes to avoid test differences between the
LDS and GDS versions.

If bottom of block BB has only one successor OldTop, in most cases it is profitable to move it before OldTop, except the following case:
-->OldTop<-
| . |
| . |

---Pred |

BB-----
Move BB before OldTop can't reduce the number of taken branches, this patch detects this case and prevent the moving.

Now add a hook in TargetPassConfig to query if CSE needs to be
enabled. By default this hook returns false only for O0 opt level but
this can be overridden by the target.
As a consequence of the default of enabled for non O0, a few tests
needed to be updated to not use CSE (by passing in -O0) to the run
line.

Summary:
With XNACK, an smem load whose result is coalesced with an operand (thus
it overwrites its own operand) cannot appear in a clause, because some
other instruction might XNACK and restart the whole clause.
The clause breaker already realized that an smem that overwrites an
operand cannot appear in a clause, and broke the clause. The problem
that this commit fixes is that the SIFormMemoryClauses optimization
formed a bundle with early clobber, which caused the earlier code that
set up the coalesced operand to be removed as dead.

Fixes two problems with GCNHazardRecognizer:
1. It only scans up to 5 instructions emitted earlier.
2. It does not take control flow into account. An earlier instruction
from the previous basic block is not necessarily a predecessor.
At the same time a real predecessor block is not scanned.
The patch provides a way to distinguish between scheduler and
hazard recognizer mode. It is OK to work with emitted instructions
in the scheduler because we do not really know what will be emitted
later and its order. However, when pass works as a hazard recognizer
the schedule is already finalized, and we have full access to the
instructions for the whole function, so we can properly traverse
predecessors and their instructions.

This was crashing in the predicate function assuming the value
is a vector.
Copy more of what AArch64 uses. This probably needs more refinement
later, but I don't exactly understand what it means in some cases,
particularly since any legalization for these seems to be missing.

Summary:
We have seen performance regression when v_add3 is generated. The major reason is that the v_mad pattern
is broken when v_add3 is generated. We also see the register pressure increased. While we could not properly
estimate register pressure during instruction selection, we can give mad a higher priority.
In this work, we raise the priority for mad24 in selection and resolve the performance regression.
