Pavel Labath 4c7763eb2f Enable ProcessMachCore plugin on non-apple platforms
Summary:
The plugin already builds fine on other platforms (linux, at least). All
that was necessary was to revitalize the hack in PlatformDarwinKernel
(not a very pretty hack, but it gets us going at least).

I haven't done a thorough investigation of the state of the plugin on
other platforms, but at least the two core file tests we have seem to
pass, so I enable them.

Jim Ingham a435d73349 Work around some odd instruction single-step behavior on macOS.
We've seen some cases on macOS where you go to instruction single
step (over a breakpoint), and single step returns but the instruction
hasn't been executed (and the pc hasn't moved.) The ThreadPlanStepOverBreakpoint
used to handle this case by accident, but the patches to handle two adjacent
breakpoints broke that accident.

This patch fixes the logic of ExplainsStop to explicitly handle the case where
the pc didn't move. It also adds a WillPop that re-enables the breakpoint we
were stepping over. We never want an unexpected path through the plan to
fool us into not doing that.

I have no idea how to make this bug happen. It is very inconsistent when it
occurs IRL. We really need a full MockProcess Plugin before we can start to write
tests for this sort of system hiccup.

Greg Clayton 86188d8a40 Fix PathMappingList for relative and empty paths after recent FileSpec normalization changes
PathMappingList was broken for relative and empty paths after normalization changes in FileSpec. There were also no tests for PathMappingList so I added those.

Changes include:

Change PathMappingList::ReverseRemapPath() to take FileSpec objects instead of ConstString. The only client of this was doing work to convert to and from ConstString objects for no reason.
Normalize all paths prefix and replacements that are added to the PathMappingList vector so they match the paths that have been already normalized in the debug info
Unify code in the two forms of PathMappingList::RemapPath() so only one contains the actual functionality. Prior to this, there were two versions of this code.
Use FileSpec::AppendPathComponent() and remove a long standing TODO so paths are correctly appended to each other.
Added tests for absolute, relative and empty paths.

Pavel Labath becc204633 Improve coverage of the apple-tables test
After closer examination, it turns out we mis-classify one of the
methods only if two of the structs have the same name. Since this was
meant to be a basic test, I rename one of the structs in the test so
that we have at least some coverage for the apple tables lookup.
Instead, I create an XFAILed test which specifically targets the
same-name case (and file a bug to track it).

Pavel Labath bf5a3f8393 Add some apple-tables lookup tests
Summary:
Now that we are able to parse MachO files everywhere, we can write some
cross-platform tests for handling of apple accelerator tables. This
reruns the same lookup tests we have for manual indexes on MachO files
which will use the accelerator tables instead. This makes sure we return
the same results regardless of the method we used to access the debug
info.

The tests confirm we return the same results for looking up types,
namespaces and variables, but have found an inconsistency in the
treatment of function lookup. In the function case we mis-classify the
method "foo" declared in the local struct sbar (inside function ffbar).
We classify it as a function whereas it really is a method. Preliminary
analysis suggests this is because
DWARFASTParserClang::GetClangDeclContextForDIE returns null when given
the local "struct sbar" DIE. This causes us to get the wrong
CompilerDeclContext when we ask for the context of the inner foo, which
means CompilerDeclContext::ISStructUnionOrClass returns false.

Until this is fixed, I do not include the darwin versions of the "base"
and "method" function lookup tests.

Pavel Labath 1237095b3c [DWARF] Extract indexing code into a separate class hierarchy
Summary:
This places the `if(m_using_apple_tables)` branches inside the
SymbolFileDWARF class behind an abstract DWARFIndex class. The class
currently has two implementations:
- AppleIndex, which searches using .apple_names and friends
- ManualIndex, which searches using a manually built index

Most of the methods of the class are very simple, and simply extract the
list of DIEs for the given name from the appropriate sub-table. The main
exception are the two GetFunctions overloads, which take a couple of
extra paramenters, including some callbacks. It was not possible to
split these up the same way as other methods, as here we were doing a
lot of post-processing on the results. The post-processing is similar
for the two cases, but not identical. I hope to factor these further in
separate patches.

Other interesting methods are:
- Preload(): do any preprocessing to make lookups faster (noop for
AppleIndex, forces a build of the lookup tables for ManualIndex).
- ReportInvalidDIEOffset(): Used to notify the users of an invalid index
(prints a message for AppleIndex, noop for ManualIndex).
- Dump(): dumps the index state (noop for AppleIndex, prints the lookup
  tables for ManualIndex).

Pavel Labath 981a34c428 Make ObjectFileMachO work on non-darwin platforms
Summary:
Before this patch we were unable to write cross-platform MachO tests
because the parsing code did not compile on other platforms. The reason
for that was that ObjectFileMachO depended on
RegisterContextDarwin_arm(64)? (presumably for core file parsing) and
the two Register Context classes uses constants from the system headers
(KERN_SUCCESS, KERN_INVALID_ARGUMENT).

As far as I can tell, these two files don't actually interact with the
darwin kernel -- they are used only in ObjectFileMachO and MacOSX-Kernel
process plugin (even though it has "kernel" in the name, this one
communicates with it via network packets and not syscalls). For the time
being I have created OS-independent definitions of these constants and
made the register context classes use those. Long term, the error
handling in these classes should be probably changed to use more
standard mechanisms such as Status or Error classes.

This is the only change necessary (apart from build system glue) to make
ObjectFileMachO work on other platforms. To demonstrate that, I remove
REQUIRES:darwin from our (only) cross-platform mach-o test.

Summary: The function ResumeThread on Windows returns a DWORD which is an unsigned int. In TargetThreadWindows::DoResume, there's code that determines how many times to call ResumeThread based on whether the return value is greater than 0. Since the function returns -1 (as an unsigned int) on failure, this was getting stuck in an infinite loop if ResumeThread failed for any reason. The correct thing to do is check whether the return value is -1 and then return the appropriate error instead of ignoring the return value.

The Process class was only being referenced because of the last-ditch
effort in the process launchers to set a process death callback in case

Although launching a process for debugging is the most important kind of
"launch" we are doing, it is by far not the only one, so assuming this
particular callback is the one to be used is not a good idea (besides
breaking layering). Instead of assuming a particular exit callback, I
change the launcher code to require the callback to be set by the user (and fix
up the two call sites which did not set the callback already).

Greg Clayton f56c30d13b General cleanup to minimize the .debug_types patch
This cleanup is designed to make the https://reviews.llvm.org/D32167 patch smaller and easier to read.

Cleanup in this patch:

Allow DWARFUnit subclasses to hand out the data that should be used when decoding data for a DIE. The information might be in .debug_info or could be in .debug_types. There is a new virtual function on DWARFUnit that each subclass must override:

virtual const lldb_private::DWARFDataExtractor &DWARFUnit::GetData() const;
This allows DWARFCompileUnit and eventually DWARFTypeUnit to hand out different data to be used when decoding the DIE information.

Add a new pure virtual function to get the size of the DWARF unit header:

virtual uint32_t DWARFUnit::GetHeaderByteSize() const = 0;
This allows DWARFCompileUnit and eventually DWARFTypeUnit to hand out different offsets where the first DIE starts when decoding DIE information from the unit.

Added a new function to DWARFDataExtractor to get the size of an offset:

size_t DWARFDataExtractor::GetDWARFSizeOfOffset() const;
Removed dead dumping and parsing code in the DWARFDebugInfo class.
Inlined a bunch of calls in DWARFUnit for accessors that were just returning integer member variables.
Renamed DWARFUnit::Size() to DWARFUnit::GetHeaderByteSize() as it clearly states what it is doing and makes more sense.

the unused WaitForBitToBeSet functions I removed, if it turns out to be
necessary.

As this changes the meaning of a "zero" timeout, I tracked down all the
callers of these functions and updated them accordingly. Propagating the
changes to all the callers of RunShellCommand was a bit too much for
this patch, so I stopped there and will continue that in a follow-up
patch.

I also add some basic unittests for the functions I modified.

Pavel Labath 80d48155cf [DWARF] Align non-accelerated function fullname searching with the apple-tables path
Summary:
Before this patch the two paths were doing very different things
- the apple path searched the .apple_names section, which contained
mangled names, as well as basenames of all functions. It returned any
  name it found.
- the non-accelerated path looked in the "full name" index we built
ourselves, which contained mangled as well as demangled names of all
functions (but no basenames). Then however, if it did not find a match
it did an extra search in the basename index, with some special
  handling for anonymous namespaces.

This aligns the two paths by changing the non-accelerated path to return
the same results as in the apple-tables one. In pratice, this means we
will search in both the "basename", "method" and "fullname" indexes (in
the manual indexes these are separate indexes. This means the function
will return some slightly inappropriate results (e.g. bar::baz::foo when
one asks for a "full name" foo), but this can be handled by additional
filtering, independently indexing method. I've also stopped inserting
demangled names into the "fullname" index, as that is inconsistent with
the apple path.

Frederic Riss 1739b7d076 Really test type lookup in TestCppTypeLookup.py
Summary:
... and fix one bug found this way. Currently, the test works not because
types are looked up correctly, but because by injecting local variables
we also materialize the types for Clang. If we disable the local variable
injection, then one check fails.

The reason of the failure is that FindTypes is run with max_matches==1
and this value is passed down to the symbol lookup functions. When the
search is performed only on the basename (like it's the case for an
entity defined in the root namespace), then the search will stop after
having found one match on the basename. But that match might be in a
namespace, we were really just looking up the basename in the accelerator
tables.

The solution is to not pass max_matches down, but to search without a
limit and let RemoveMismatchedTypes do its job afterwards. Note the
patch includes 2 hunks with the same change, but only the latter is
tested. I couldn't find a way to create a testcase for the other
branch of the if ('image lookup -t' allows me to get there, but it
only ever returns one type anyway).

Jason Molenda 07580ffe47 The on-ios-device command line lldb has an optimization where
when it and the inferior process both have the same shared cache
(a conglomeration of all libraries at the same fixed address for
all processes), lldb will read data out of its own memory to speed
things up. The shared cache has a UUID, so lldb currently checks
that the UUID of its own shared cache matches that of the inferior.

This change adds one refinement to that -- it checks that the UUID
is the same and that the base address of the shared cache is the
same. And only uses its local shared cache if they are both identical.

This involved using a different style of SPI with dyld to get lldb's
shared cache load address, but it's not especially difficult.

One unattractive part of the change is that I'm using the real
underlying types of task_t and kern_return_t instead of picking
them up from mach/mach.h. The defines that get picked up there (a
lot from machine.h but others too) conflict with llvm/Support/MachO.h
even when I have mach.h included before our SafeMachO.h which
undefines most of the defines before including llvm/Support/MachO.h.
I'll need to augment the #undefs in SafeMachO.h to get this to
compile cleanly, but that'll be another day.

This is a change that only affects Swift and is NFC for the language

This patch restructures part of LLDB's testing configuration:

1. I moved the test dependencies up the chain so every dotest dependency

have other dependencies when it's being run by lit. Lit on the other

2. I replaced as much generator expressions with variables as possible.
This is consistent with the rest of LLVM and doesn't break generators
that support multiple targets (MSVC, Xcode). This wasn't a problem
before, but now we need to expand the dotest arguments in the lit
configuration and there's only one test suite even with multiple
   targets.

3. I moved lldb-dotest into it's own directory under utils since there's
no need anymore for it to located under `test/`.

Pavel Labath 90b0a53499 lldb-test symbols: Add ability to do name-based lookup
Summary:
lldb-test already had the ability to dump all symbol information in a
module. This is interesting, but it can be too verbose, and it also does
not use the same APIs that lldb uses to query symbol information. The
last part is interesting to me now, because I am about to add DWARF v5
debug_names support, which needs to implement these APIs.

This patch adds a set of arguments to lldb-test, which modify it's
behavior from dumping all symbols to dumping only the requested
information:
- --find={function,namespace,type,variable} - search for the given
  kind of objects.

- --name - the name to search for.

- --regex - whether to treat the "name" as a regular expression. This is
not available for all lookup types (we do not have the required APIs
  for namespaces and types).

- --context - specifies the context, which can be used to restrict the
search. This argument takes a variable name (which must be defined and
be unique), and we then use the context that this variable is defined
  in as the search context.

- --function-flags={auto,full,base,method,selector} - a set of flags to
further restrict the search for function symbols.

Together, these flags and their combinations cover the main SymbolFile
entry points which I will need to modify for the accelerator table
support, and so I plan to do most of the regression testing this way.
(I've also found this a useful tool for exploration of what the given
APIs are supposed to do.)

I add a couple of tests to demonstrate the usage of the usage of the
various options, and also an xfailed test which demonstrates a bug I
found while playing with this. The only requirement for these tests is
the presence of lld -- the should run on any platform which is able to
build lldb.

These tests use c++ code as input, but this isn't a requirement. It is also
possible to use IR, assembly or json to create the test module.

As Pavel notes in https://reviews.llvm.org/D45348, the way I'm suppressing

path components include "experimental", a missing setting would be declared
a non-error. So

settings set target.experimental.setting-that-does-not-exist true

would not generate an error, which is correct. But as Pavel notes,

settings set setting-does-not-exist.experimental.run-stopped true

should generate an error because the unknown name occurs before the
"experimental". The amount of change to do this correctly hasn't
thrilled me, so I'm leaving this as-is for now.

Aaron Smith ba48c9bde1 [lit, lldbsuite] Update the lldbsuite to correctly run tests on windows and windows server
Summary:
The new script to run the lldbtests as part of lit invokes each test by calling dotest.py, however, we cannot rely on the system to always correctly interpret the script as python causing the tests to be unresolved on windows (at least). To fix this, we need to make sure that the first parameter in the command line is the python executable itself.

In Makefile.rules, there are a number of windows specific definitions that rely on the HOST_OS being set as Windows_NT but the logic detecting the OS currently does not detect server versions of windows correctly. This change updates the logic to detect windows server as well.

This patch makes the set of generated test variants static and handles

how we do other test-skipping decision (e.g. for libc++ tests), and
makes it easier to expose the full set of tests to lit, which now does
not need to know anything about what things can potentially cause tests

The current way that the lit configuration is generated for the LLDB

which supports multiple configurations (such as Visual Studio). The
failure is because file GENERATE will create a file *per possible

Pavel Labath 5976f30821 Attempt to fix TestMiniDump on windows
It was failing because the modules names were coming out as
C:\Windows\System32/MSVCP120D.dll (last separator is a forward slash) on
windows.

There are two issues at play here:
- the first problem is that the paths in minidump were being parsed as a
host path. This meant that on posix systems the whole path was
  interpreted as a file name.
- on windows the path was split into a directory-filename pair
correctly, but then when it was reconsituted, the last separator ended
up being a forward slash because SBFileSpec.fullpath was joining them
  with '/' unconditionally.

I fix the first issue by parsing the minidump paths according to the
path syntax of the host which produced the dump, which should make the
test behavior on posix&windows identical. The last path will still be a
forward slash because of the second issue. We should probably fix the
"fullpath" property to do something smarter in the future.

Leonard Mosescu 47196a25bb Improve LLDB's handling of non-local minidumps
Normally, LLDB is creating a high-fidelity representation of a live
process, including a list of modules and sections, with the
associated memory address ranges. In order to build the module and
section map LLDB tries to locate the local module image (object file)
and will parse it.

This does not work for postmortem debugging scenarios where the crash
dump (minidump in this case) was captured on a different machine.

Fortunately the minidump format encodes enough information about
each module's memory range to allow us to create placeholder modules.
This enables most LLDB functionality involving address-to-module
translations.

Also, we may want to completly disable the search for matching
local object files if we load minidumps unless we can prove that the
local image matches the one from the crash origin.
(not part of this change, see: llvm.org/pr35193)

Example: Identify the module from a stack frame PC:

Before:
thread #1, stop reason = Exception 0xc0000005 encountered at address 0x164d14
    frame #0: 0x00164d14

    frame #3: 0x7510336a
    frame #4: 0x77759882
    frame #5: 0x77759855

After:
thread #1, stop reason = Exception 0xc0000005 encountered at address 0x164d14
    frame #0: 0x00164d14 C:\Users\amccarth\Documents\Visual Studio 2013\Projects\fizzbuzz\Debug\fizzbuzz.exe
    frame #1: 0x00167c79 C:\Users\amccarth\Documents\Visual Studio 2013\Projects\fizzbuzz\Debug\fizzbuzz.exe
    frame #2: 0x00167e6d C:\Users\amccarth\Documents\Visual Studio 2013\Projects\fizzbuzz\Debug\fizzbuzz.exe
    frame #3: 0x7510336a C:\Windows\SysWOW64\kernel32.dll
    frame #4: 0x77759882 C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ntdll.dll
    frame #5: 0x77759855 C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ntdll.dll

Example: target modules list

Before:
error: the target has no associated executable images

After:
[ 0] C:\Windows\System32\MSVCP120D.dll
[ 1] C:\Windows\SysWOW64\kernel32.dll
[ 2] C:\Users\amccarth\Documents\Visual Studio 2013\Projects\fizzbuzz\Debug\fizzbuzz.exe
[ 3] C:\Windows\System32\MSVCR120D.dll
[ 4] C:\Windows\SysWOW64\KERNELBASE.dll
[ 5] C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ntdll.dll

NOTE: the minidump format also includes the debug info GUID, so we can
fill-in the module UUID from it, but this part was excluded from this change
to keep the changes simple (the LLDB UUID is hardcoded to be either 16 or
20 bytes, while the CodeView GUIDs are normally 24 bytes)

Jonas Devlieghere 1a928f3fc7 [LIT] Have lit run the lldb test suite
This is the first in what will hopefully become a series of patches to
replace the driver logic in dotest.py with LIT. The motivation for this
change is that there's no point in maintaining two driver

Obviously the goal is maintain full compatibility with the functionality

This patch is the initial attempt (referred to as v1) to run the lldb

Greg Clayton 52098cf5da Allow relative file paths when settings source breakpoints
Many IDEs set breakpoints using absolute paths and this causes problems when the full path of the source file path doesn't match what is in the debug info. This can be due to different build systems and do or do not resolve symlinks. This patch allows relative breakpoint to be set correctly without needing to do any target.source-map tricks. If IDEs want to, they can send down relative paths like:

./main.c
./src/main.c
src/main.c
foo/bar/src/main.c

I used the breakpoint resolver to match on the file basename and then we weed out anything whose relative paths don't match. This will be a huge improvement for IDEs as they can specify as much of a relative path as desired to uniquely identify a source file in the current project.

Jonas Devlieghere 85a5ec513d Prevent deadlock in OS Plugins
Summary:
When performing a synchronous resume, the API mutex is held until the
process is stopped. This is fine, except for when the OS plugins are processing
an event before the main thread is aware of it, in which case we end up with a
deadlock because in the internal thread we acquire a resource lock first, and
then wait for the API lock, while in the main thread we do the opposite, we
already hold the API mutex but are now waiting for the event mutex to handle
the event.

This patch fixes this by relaxing the need for the API lock in the OS plugins.
We can get away with this because we now this code is executed in the main
thread. As stated in the comment above, we just want to ensure nobody else
messes with the API while we're making a change. In theory it's possible that
the main thread would release the lock while we're executing the function, but
prevent this would require a more structural solution (which we want, but do
not have today).

The same workaround was already present, but this patch generalizes it to the
whole file.

This will allow me to re-land r329891.

(attempting to attach while debugging), so I write a test based on that.

The test immediately exposed a bug where the m_send_error_strings field
was being used uninitialized (so it was sometimes true from the get-go),
so I fix that as well.

Pavel Labath aec4593ad9 Args: replace isprint8 usage with isprint
It looks like we introduced isprint8 way back in r169417 to be used on
getopt's short_options, which we sometimes set to values which are out
of range for normal chars to indicate options with no short form.

However, this is not how the function is used in the Args class, where
we explicitly process a string character by character.

This removes the last external dependency from the Args class.

Frederic Riss cd90f878d4 [debugserver] Fix LC_BUILD_VERSION load command handling.
Summary:
In one of the 2 places the LC_BUILD_VERSION load command is handled, there
is a bug preventing us from actually handling them (the address where to
read the load command was not updated). This patch factors reading the
deployment target load commands into a helper and adds testing for the 2
code paths calling the helper.

The testing is a little bit complicated because the only times those load
commands matter is when debugging a simulator process. I added a new
decorator to check that a specific SDK is available. The actual testing was
fairly easy once I knew how to run a simulated process.

Pavel Labath 5a84123490 gdb-remote: Fix checksum verification for messages with escape chars
Summary:
We've had a mismatch in the checksum computation between the sender and
receiver. The sender computed the payload checksum using the wire
encoding of the packet, while the receiver did this after expanding
un-escaping and expanding run-length-encoded sequences. This resulted in
communication breakdown if packets using these feature were sent in the
ack mode.

Normally, this did not cause any issues since the only packet we send in
the ack-mode is the QStartNoAckMode packet, but I ran into this when
debugging the lldb-server tests which (for better or worse) don't use
this mode.

According to the gdb-remote documentation "The two-digit checksum is computed as
the modulo 256 sum of all characters between the leading ‘$’ and the
trailing ‘#’", it seems that our sender is doing the right thing here.
Therefore, I fix the receiver the match the sender behavior and add a
test.

With this bug fixed, we can see that lldb-server is sending a stop-reply
after receiving the "k" in the same way as debugserver does (but we
weren't detecting this because at that point the connection was dead
already). I fix that expectation as well.

When importing C++ methods into clang AST nodes from the DWARF symbol
table, preserve the DW_AT_linkage_name and use it as the linker

Concretely, this enables `expression` to call into names that use the
GNU `abi_tag` extension, and enables lldb to call into code using
std::string or std::list from recent versions of libstdc++. See
https://bugs.llvm.org/show_bug.cgi?id=35310 . It also seems broadly
more robust than relying on the DWARF->clang->codegen pipeline to
roundtrip properly, but I'm not immediately aware of any other cases

Pavel Labath 9a652a84b1 Fix TestDisassembleBreakpoint broken by r328488
The first issue was that the test was capturing the "before" disassembly
before launching, and the "after" after. This is a problem because some
of the disassembly will change after we know the load address (e.g. PCs

the process running.

The second issue was that the refactor in r328488 accidentaly changed
the meaning of the test, as it was no longer disassembling the function
which contained the breakpoint.

While inside, I also modernize the test to use

Pavel Labath a057877a2e Add a test for setting the load address of a module with differing physical/virtual addresses
Summary:
First attempt at landing D42145 was reverted because it caused test
failures on some android devices. It turned out this was because these
devices had vdso modules with differing physical and virtual addresses.
This was not caught earlier because all of the modules in our tests
either lack physical addresses or have them identical to virtual ones.

In the discussion on the patch, we came to the conclusion that in the
scenario where we are merely setting a load address of a module (for
example from a dynamic loader plugin), we should always use virtual
addresses (i.e., preserve status quo). This patch adds a test to make
sure we don't regress in that direction.

The issue was that the ASTDumper was being passed a null pointer

Given that this is logging code and the rest of the debugger is fine
with the declaration being null, I just make sure the logging code can
handle it as well. Right now I just do the null check in

Summary:
When running on an architecture other than x86_64, the
target.ConnectRemote() part of the test may add platform information to
the target triple.

It was observed that this happens at Process::CompleteAttach() method,
after the platform_sp->IsCompatibleArchitecture() check fails.
This method then calls platform_sp->GetPlatformForArchitecture(), that
on a Linux machine ends up returning a generic Linux platform, that then
ends up getting added to the original target architecture.

Pavel Labath 16064d354a Re-land: [lldb] Use vFlash commands when writing to target's flash memory regions
The difference between this and the previous patch is that now we use
ELF physical addresses only for loading objects into the target (and the
rest of the module load address logic still uses virtual addresses).

Summary:
When writing an object file over gdb-remote, use the vFlashErase, vFlashWrite, and vFlashDone commands if the write address is in a flash memory region. A bare metal target may have this kind of setup.

- Update ObjectFileELF to set load addresses using physical addresses. A typical case may be a data section with a physical address in ROM and a virtual address in RAM, which should be loaded to the ROM address.
- Add support for querying the target's qXfer:memory-map, which contains information about flash memory regions, leveraging MemoryRegionInfo data structures with minor modifications
- Update ProcessGDBRemote to use vFlash commands in DoWriteMemory when the target address is in a flash region

Pavel Labath 63047d05c0 [dotest] Clean up test folder clean-up
Summary:
This patch implements a unified way of cleaning the build folder of each
test. This is done by completely removing the build folder before each
test, in the respective setUp() method. Previously, we were using a
combination of several methods, each with it's own drawbacks:
- nuking the entire build tree before running dotest: the issue here is
that this did not take place if you ran dotest manually
- running "make clean" before the main "make" target: this relied on the
clean command being correctly implemented. This was usually true, but
  not always.
- for files which were not produced by make, each python file was
responsible for ensuring their deleting, using a variety of methods.

With this approach, the previous methods become redundant. I remove the
first two, since they are centralized. For the other various bits of
clean-up code in python files, I indend to delete it when I come
across it.

Pavel Labath 0428ddd7fc Fix TestProcessLaunch breakage on MacOS
This test started failing after r327625. The cause seems difference in the
treatment of relative --stdin paths between MacOS (debugserver?) and linux
(lldb-server?). Linux treats this as relative to the debuggers PWD, while MacOS
as relative to (I think) the future PWD of the launched process.

This fixes the issue by using absolute paths, which should work everywhere, but
we should probably unify this path handling as well. I'll ask around about what
is the expected behavior here.

- some tests were redirecting inferior stdout/err to a file. For these I

differences between reading a file locally and remotely.
- some tests were redirecting the pexpect I/O into a file. For these I
use a python StringIO object to avoid creating a file altogether.
- the TestSettings inferior was creating a file. Here, I make sure the
inferior is launched with pwd=build-dir so that the files end up
  created there.
- lldb-mi --log (used by some tests) creates a log file in PWD without
the ability say differently. To make this work I make sure to run
lldb-mi with PWD=build_dir. This in turn necessitated a couple of
changes in other lldb-mi tests, which were using relative paths to
  access the source tree.

When using:

LLDB would fail to set a source file and line breakpoint with:

(lldb) breakpoint set --file /path/to/source/main.c --line 2
Because code in the target was undoing the remapping of "/path/to/source/main.c" to "./main.c" and then it would resolve this path, which would append the current working directory to the path. We don't want to resolve paths that we unmap.

To make this build work, I needed to add detection code for the pthread

cannot rely on llvm to detect these for us. In a standalone non-dylib
build this was accidentaly working because these libraries were pulled
in as an interface dependency of the .a files, but in a dylib build
these are no longer part of the link interface, and so we need to add

The types for the compiland's children are parsed when parsing types for a PDB compiland. Global types also need to be parsed but unfortunately PDBs do not have compiland information about each global type. So we parse them all on the first call to ParseTypes.

If a sc.function is provided then parse the types for that function. Otherwise parse the types for the overall sc.comp_unit.

The ParseTypes method can be very slow if a program has a long list of compile units containing needed modules. Debugging clang-cl with lldb will show the problem.

Typical example, illformed comparisons (operator== where LHS and

of the object files lldb inserted a generic function declaration
in the ASTContext on which Sema operates. Maintaining the AST
context invariants is fairly tricky and sometimes resulted in
crashes inside clang (or assertions hit).

The real reason why this feature exists in the first place is
that of allowing users to do something like:
(lldb) call printf("patatino")

even if the debug informations for printf() is not available.
Eventually, we might reconsider this feature in its
entirety, but for now we can't remove it as it would break
a bunch of users. Instead, try to limit it to non-C++ symbols,
where getting the invariants right is hopefully easier.

Now you can't do in lldb anymore

Summary:
r327219 adds wrappers to sort which shuffle the container before sorting.
This causes lldb bots to break as the call to sort is now ambiguous:
http://lab.llvm.org:8011/builders/lldb-x86_64-ubuntu-14.04-buildserver/builds/20725/steps/ninja%20build%20local/logs/stdio

So we need use llvm::sort instead of sort to avoid ambiguity with std::sort.

Note: This patch is just to unbreak the bots. I plan to have subsequent patches which will convert all
calls to std::sort to llvm::sort.

Pavel Labath 5f56fca4e1 Move option parsing out of the Args class
Summary:
The args class is used in plenty of places (a lot of them in the lower lldb
layers) for representing a list of arguments, and most of these places don't
care about option parsing. Moving the option parsing out of the class removes
the largest external dependency (there are a couple more, but these are in
static functions), and brings us closer to being able to move it to the
Utility module).

The new home for these functions is the Options class, which was already used
as an argument to the parse calls, so this just inverts the dependency between
the two.

The functions are themselves are mainly just copied -- the biggest functional
change I've made to them is to avoid modifying the input Args argument (getopt
likes to permute the argument vector), as it was weird to have another class
reorder the entries in Args class. So now the functions don't modify the input
arguments, and (for those where it makes sense) return a new Args vector
instead. I've also made the addition of a "fake arg0" (required for getopt
compatibility) an implementation detail rather than a part of interface.

While doing that I noticed that ParseForCompletion function was recording the
option indexes in the shuffled vector, but then the consumer was looking up the
entries in the unshuffled one. This manifested itself as us not being able to
complete "watchpoint set variable foo --" (because getopt would move "foo" to
the end). Surprisingly all other completions (e.g. "watchpoint set variable foo
--w") were not affected by this. However, I couldn't find a comprehensive test
for command argument completion, so I consolidated the existing tests and added
a bunch of new ones.

Pavel Labath 96979ceecb Rewrite TestTargetSymbolsBuildidCase to be more focused
Summary:
The test was failing in remote debugging scenario with windows as a host
as cmd.exe is not able to parse the complicated shell commands in the
Makefile.

The test seemed like a perfect candidate for a more focused testing
approach, so I have rewritten in on top of lldb-test's module-sections
functionality. The slight gotcha there was that the
Module::GetSectionList does not include the sections from the symbol
file until someone manually calls Module::GetSymbolVendor. Normally,
this is not an issue, because someone will have initialized the symbol
vendor by the time anyone starts looking at the sections. However, when
all one this is dump the section list, we run into this problem.

I've tried making this behavior more automatic, but it turns out it's
not that easy, so for now, I just manually initialize the Symbol Vendor
before dumping out the sections in lldb-test.

Summary:
In an effort to understand the function's operation, I've split it into logical

parsing state that is carried from one segment to another is explicitly
captured in the SegmentParsingContext object). I've also extracted some pieces
of code which were already standalone (validation of the segment load command,
determining the section type, determining segment permissions) into
separate functions.

Parsing of a single section within the segment should probably also be a
separate function, but I've left that for a separate patch.

This adds a wrapper around dotest, similar to llvm-lit in llvm. The

particular test case when it fails, as an alternative to "Command

The motivation for this is that I'd like to replace the driver part of
dotest with lit. As a first step, I'd like to have lit invoke dotest,
which would just run the complete test suite, completely identical to
what the CMake target does today. Once this is in place, we can have lit
run dotest for the different test directories, and ultimately once per

Pavel Labath 029fb69372 [lldb] Use vFlash commands when writing to target's flash memory regions

Adrian McCarthy 00cc735a6f Partial fix for TestConflictingSymbol.py on Windows
Without this fix, the test ERRORs because the link of the inferior fails. This
patch adds the LLDB_TEST_API macro where needed and uses the new -2 magic
value for num_expected_locations to account for lazy-loading of module symbols
on Windows.

With this fix, the test itself still fails: conflicting_symbol isn't in the
debug info nor the export table, and Windows binaries don't have an equivalent
of the ELF .symtab. We need to understand why the test works to keep the
symbol out of the debug info. In the mean time, having the test fail at this
point is a better indication of the remaining problem than a build error.

Pavel Labath 7c94582f90 Add "lldb-test breakpoint" command and convert the case-sensitivity test to use it
Summary:
The command takes two input arguments: a module to use as a debug target
and a file containing a list of commands. The command will execute each
of the breakpoint commands in the file and dump the breakpoint state
after each one.

The commands are expected to be breakpoint set/remove/etc. commands, but
I explicitly allow any lldb command here, so you can do things like
change setting which impact breakpoint resolution, etc. There is also a
"-persistent" flag, which causes lldb-test to *not* automatically clear
the breakpoint list after each command. Right now I don't use it, but
the idea behind it was that it could be used to test more complex
combinations of breakpoint commands (set+modify, set+disable, etc.).

Right now the command prints out only the basic breakpoint state, but
more information can be easily added there. To enable easy matching of
the "at least one breakpoint location found" state, the command
explicitly prints out the string "At least one breakpoint location.".

To enable testing of breakpoints set with an absolute paths, I add the
ability to perform rudimentary substitutions on the commands: right now
the string %p is replaced by the directory which contains the command
file (so, under normal circumstances, this will perform the same
substitution as lit would do for %p).

I use this command to rewrite the TestBreakpointCaseSensitivity test --
the test was checking about a dozen breakpoint commands, but it was
launching a new process for each one, so it took about 90 seconds to
run. The new test takes about 0.3 seconds for me, which is approximately
a 300x speedup.

Jonas Devlieghere 560ce2c70f Re-land: "[Support] Replace HashString with djbHash."
This patch removes the HashString function from StringExtraces and
replaces its uses with calls to djbHash from DJB.h.

This change is *almost* NFC. While the algorithm is identical, the
djbHash implementation in StringExtras used 0 as its default seed while
the implementation in DJB uses 5381. The latter has been shown to result
in less collisions and improved avalanching and is used by the DWARF
accelerator tables.

Because some test were implicitly relying on the hash order, I've
reverted to using zero as a seed for the following two files:

Several properties have CMAKE_CFG_INTDIR as part of the path - this works correctly when the cmake generator only supports one configuration which is known at configuration time, but it does not work correctly when the cmake generator supports multiple configurations (for example, VS).

For VS, CMAKE_CFG_INTDIR ends up set as $Configuration and then it is never updated correctly. Instead, the lit configuration can use a property that can be overwritten at run time. AddLLVM does that for several properties (such as LLVM_TOOLS_DIR).

This change is also removing properties from the lit/CMakeLists.txt that are actually set during the call to configure_lit_site_cfg

Summary:
The paralelization patch exposed a bunch of cases where we were still
touching the source tree (as these tests were now stepping on each
others toes and being flaky).

This patch removes such issues from breakpoint command tests. Since the
only reason they were creating files was to indirectly test whether the
breakpoint commands got executed (and plumbing the full build tree path
to all places that needed it would be messy) I decided to modify the
tests to check for a different side effect instead: modification of a
global variable. This also makes the code simpler as checking the value
of the global variable is easier, and there is nothing to clean up.

As the tests aren't really doing anything debug-info related, I took the
opportunity to also mark them as NO_DEBUG_INFO_TESTCASEs.

The test was generating long unix socket names, and the addition of a

unix sockets).

Pavel Labath 686b27b55a [lldb][PPC64] Fixed vector and struct return value
Summary:
The PowerPC64 ABI plugin was modified to:

- properly handle vector type return values
- implement support for struct/class return values

A refactoring in the code that handles return values was also performed, to make it possible to handle structs without repeating (when possible) code that handles its fields.

There was also an issue with CreateInstance(), that only created an instance in the first time it was called and then cached it in a static var. When restarting a process under LLDB's control, the ABI's process weak pointer would become null, and using it would result in a segmentation fault. This issue became more evident after the latest changes to PPC64 plugin, that now uses the process pointer to get the target byte order, making LLDB to seg fault when restarting a program. This was fixed by making CreateInstance() to always create a new ABI instance.

All of LLDB's ReturnValue tests are passing for PPC64le now. It should work for PPC64be too, although this was not tested.

Pavel Labath 42a1619262 [dosep] Run tests in a more parallel fashion
Summary:
Due to in-tree builds, we were parallelizing the tests at the directory
level. Now that the tests are built out-of-tree, we can remove this
limitation and paralelize at file level instead.

This decreases test suite time by about 10% for me, which is not
world-shattering, but it makes the code slightly simpler and will also
allow us to merge tests which were artificially spread over multiple
folders (TestConcurrentEvents...) to work-around this limitation.

To make this work, I've also needed to include the test file name in the
build directory name, as just the test method name is not unique enough
(plenty of tests have a test method called "test" or similar).

While doing this, I've found a couple of tests that are taking waaay longer then
they ought to (TestBreakpointCaseSensitivity -- 90 seconds), which I plan to
look into in the future.

Summary:
The test was trying to reproduce a bug in handling of two concurrent
events, which was impossible to do reliably in a black-box style test.
In practice, this meant the test was only ever failing on remote
targets, as these were slow enough to trigger this.

Fortunately, we now have the ability to mock the server side of the
connection, which means we can simulate the failure deterministically,
so I rewrite the test to use the new gdb-client framework.

I've needed to add a couple of new packets to the mock server to be able
to do this. Instead of trying to guess how a "typical" gdb-client test
will want to handle this, I throw an exception in the implementation to
force the user to override them (the packets are only sent if the test
explicitly performs some action which will trigger them, so a basic test
which e.g. does not need the "continue" functionality will not need to
implement them).

Pavel Labath 4f0331251f Fix parsing of object files with "early" section headers
ObjectFileELF::GetModuleSpecifications contained a lot of tip-toing code
which was trying to avoid loading the full object file into memory. It
did this by trying to load data only up to the offset if was accessing.
However, in practice this was useless, as 99% of object files we
encounter have section headers at the end, so we would load the whole
file as soon as we start parsing the section headers.

In fact, this would break as soon as we encounter a file which does
*not* have section headers at the end (yaml2obj produces these), as the
access to .strtab (which we need to get the section names) was not
guarded by this offset check.

As this strategy was completely ineffective anyway, I do not attempt to
proliferate it further by guarding the .strtab accesses. Instead I just
lead the full file as soon as we are reasonably sure that we are indeed
processing an elf file.

If we really care about the load size here, we would need to reimplement
this to just load the bits of the object file we need, instead of
loading everything from the start of the object file to the given
offset. However, given that the OS will do this for us for free when
using mmap, I think think this is really necessary.

For testing this I check a (tiny) SO file instead of yaml2obj-ing it
because the fact that they come out first is an implementation detail of
yaml2obj that can change in the future.

Pavel Labath 71ad71e530 mock_gdb_server: rectify ack handling code
The mock server was sending acks back in response to spurious acks from
the client, but the client was not prepared to handle these. Most of the
time this would work because the only time the client was sending
unsolicited acks is after the initial connection, and there reply-ack
would get ignored in the "flush all packets from the server" loop which
came after the ack. However, this loop had only a 10ms delay, and
sometimes this was not enough to catch the reply (which meant the
connection got out of sync, and test failed).

Since this behavior not consistent with how lldb-server handles this
situation (it just ignores the ack), I fix the mock server to do the
same.

This patch is the result of a discussion on lldb-dev, see
http://lists.llvm.org/pipermail/lldb-dev/2018-January/013111.html for
background.

For each test (should be eventually: each test configuration) a
separate build directory is created and we execute

  make VPATH=$srcdir/path/to/test -C $builddir/path/to/test -f $srcdir/path/to/test/Makefile -I $srcdir/path/to/test

In order to make this work all LLDB tests need to be updated to find
the executable in the test build directory, since CWD still points at
the test's source directory, which is a requirement for unittest2.

Although we have done extensive testing, I'm expecting that this first
attempt will break a few bots. Please DO NOT HESITATE TO REVERT this
patch in order to get the bots green again. We will likely have to
iterate on this some more.

Pavel Labath 36e82208c7 Remove ObjectFile usage from HostLinux::GetProcessInfo
Summary:
The ObjectFile class was used to determine the architecture of a running
process by inspecting it's main executable. There were two issues with
this:
- it's in the wrong layer
- the call can be very expensive (it can end up computing the crc of the
  whole file).

Since the process is running on the host, ideally we would be able to
just query the data straight from the OS like darwin does, but there
doesn't seem to be a reasonable way to do that. So, this fixes the
layering issue by using the llvm object library to inspect the file.
Since we know the process is already running on the host, we just need
to peek at a few bytes of the elf header to determine whether it's 32-
or 64-bit (which should make this faster as well).

Pretty much the same logic was implemented in
NativeProcessProtocol::ResolveProcessArchitecture, so I delete this
logic and replace calls with GetProcessInfo.

Stale global module caches cause problems for the bots. The modules
become invalid when clang headers are updated by version control, and
tests which use these modules fail to compile, e.g:

fatal error: file '.../__stddef_max_align_t.h' has been modified since the module file '/var/.../Darwin.pcm' was built
note: please rebuild precompiled header '/var/.../Darwin.pcm'

Eventually we should transition to having just a single module cache to speed
tests up. This patch should be just enough to fix the spurious bot failures due
to stale caches.

Aaron Smith ec40f818c6 [SymbolFilePDB] Fix null array access when parsing the type of a function without any arguments, i.e. 'int main()' and add support to test it
Summary:
- Fix a null array access bug. This happens when creating the lldb type for a function that has no argument.
- Implement SymbolFilePDB::ParseTypes method. Using `lldb-test symbols` will show all supported types in the target.
- Create lldb types for variadic function, PDBSymbolTypePointer, PDBSymbolTypeBuiltin
- The underlying builtin type for PDBSymbolTypeEnum is always `Int`, correct it with the very first enumerator's encoding if any. This is more accurate when the underlying type is not signed or another integer type.
- Fix a bug when the compiler type is not created based on PDB_BuiltinType. For example, basic type `long` is of same width as `int` in a 32-bit target, and the compiler type of former one will be represented by the one generated for latter if using the default method. Introduce a static function GetBuiltinTypeForPDBEncodingAndBitSize to correct this issue.
- Basic type `long double` and `double` have the same bit size in MSVC and there is no information in a PDB to distinguish them. The compiler type of the former one is represented by the latter's.
- There is no line information about typedef, enum etc in a PDB and the source and line information for them are not shown.
- There is no information about scoped enumeration. The compiler type is represented as an unscoped one.

Raphael Isemann e07688898b [modules] Fix missing includes/typo in LLDB's includes. [NFC]
Summary:
This patch adds missing includes to the LLDB headers inside `include/` as a first step of building LLDB's source with C++ modules. It also fixes this single `stds::` typo.

Some quick map why some non-obvious includes were necessary:
* lldb/lldb-defines.h for LLDB_INVALID_ADDRESS
* lldb/lldb-types.h for addr_t
* lldb/lldb-defines.h for DISALLOW_COPY_AND_ASSIG
* lldb/DataFormatters/TypeSynthetic.h for SyntheticChildrenFrontEnd

Aaron Smith 563799b3a6 [SymbolFilePDB] Fix null array access when parsing the type of a function without any arguments, i.e.
- There is no line informaton about typedef, enum etc in a PDB and the source and line information for them are not shown.
- There is no information about scoped enumeration. The compiler type is represented as an unscoped one.

Pavel Labath 91f14e69b8 Remove Platform references from the Host module
Summary:
These were used by Host::LaunchProcess to "resolve" the executable it
was about to launch. The only parts of Platform::ResolveExecutable, which
seem to be relevant here are the FileSpec::ResolvePath and
ResolveExecutableLocation calls.

The rest (most) of that function deals with selecting an architecture
out of a fat binary and making sure we are able to create a Module with that
slice. These are reasonable actions when selecting a binary to debug,
but not for a generic process launching framework (it's technically even
wrong because we should be able to launch a binary with execute
permissions only, but trying to parse such file will obviously fail).

I remove the platform call by inlining the relevant FileSpec calls and
ignoring the rest of the Platform::ResolveExecutable code. The
architecture found by the slice-searching code is being ignored already
anyway, as we use the one specified in the LaunchInfo, so the only
effect of this should be a different error message in case the
executable does not contain the requested architecture -- before we
would get an error message from the Platform class, but now we will get
an error from the actual posix_spawn syscall (this is only relevant on
mac, as it's the only target supporting fat binaries).

Launching targets for debugging should not be affected as here the
executable is pre-resolved at the point when the Target is created.

Pavel Labath 8872d703ad Fix logging test on windows
Refactor in r322653 broke the logging test on windows because MSVC uses
a fully qualified name as the value of __FUNCTION__, which is not what
we were expecting. I'm changing the code to use the more portable
__func__, which behaves the same as on clang/gcc.

The standard still says that the value of __func__ is implementation
defined, so if we run into problems with this test again we may just
need to drop it.

Pavel Labath 555130c3f6 [lldb][PPC64] Fixed long double variables dump
Summary:
LLDB's DumpDataExtractor was not prepared to handle PowerPC's long double type: PPCDoubleDouble.

As it is somewhat special, treating it as other regular float types resulted in getting wrong information about it.
In this particular case, llvm::APFloat::getSizeInBits(PPCDoubleDouble) was returning 0.

This caused the TestSetValues.py test to fail, because lldb would abort on an assertion failure on APInt(), because of the invalid size.

Since in the PPC case the value of item_byte_size was correct and the
getSizeInBits call was only added to support x87DoubleExtended
semantics, this restricts the usage of getSizeInBits to the x87
semantics.

Aaron Smith 10a02577ea [lldb] Add support to cache a PDB's global scope and fix a bug in getting the source file name for a compiland
Summary:
This commit is a combination of the following changes:

- Cache PDB's global scope (executable) in SymbolFilePDB

- Change naming of `cu` to `compiland` which is PDB specific

- Change ParseCompileUnitForSymIndex to ParseCompileUnitForUID.
   Prefer using a common name `UID` instead of PDB's `System Index`
Adding one more argument `index` to this method, which is used to
specify the index of the compile unit in a cached compile unit array

- Add GetPDBCompilandByUID method to simply code

- Fix a bug in getting the source file name for a PDB compiland.
   For some reason, PDBSymbolCompiland::getSourceFileName() could
return an empty name, so if that is true, we have to walk through all
source files of this compiland and determine the right source file
used to generate this compiland based on language indicated.

   The previous implementation called PDBSession::findOneSourceFile
method to get its name for the compiland. This is not accurate since
the `one source file` found could be a header other than source file.

Jason Molenda 9f0115fe1c We have two sources for path remapping information that we get out
of a dSYM per-uuid plist that may be present (dsymutil does not
create this plist, it is only added after the fact by additional

or the newer DBGSourcePathRemapping dictionary which may give us
multiple remappings.

I'm changing the order that we process these & add them to the
list of source remappings. If the DBGSourcePathRemapping dict
is present, it should be the first entries we will try.
