This restores commit r278330, with fixes for a few bot failures:
- Fix a late change I had made to the save temps output file that I
missed due to existing files sitting on my disk
- Fix a bunch of Windows bot failures with "ambiguous call to overloaded

- Attempt to fix a modules bot failure by adding a missing include

Resolution-based LTO API.
Summary:
This introduces a resolution-based LTO API. The main advantage of this API over
existing APIs is that it allows the linker to supply a resolution for each
symbol in each object, rather than the combined object as a whole. This will
become increasingly important for use cases such as ThinLTO which require us
to process symbol resolutions in a more complicated way than just adjusting
linkage.

The DebugDirectory contains a pointer to the CodeView info structure which is a
derivative of the OMF debug directory. The structure has evolved a bit over
time, and PDB 2.0 used a slightly different definition from PDB 7.0. Both of
these are specific to CodeView and not COFF. Reflect this by moving the
structure definitions into the DebugInfo/CodeView headers. Define a generic
DebugInfo union type that can be used to pass around a reference to the
DebugInfo irrespective of the versioning. NFC.

They are now lexed as a single token on targets where
MCAsmInfo::HasMipsExpressions is true and then parsed in a similar way to
the '~' operator as part of MCExpr::parseExpression.
As a result:
* expressions and immediates no longer have different parsing rules. The
difference is now solely down to whether evaluateAsAbsolute() succeeds.
* %hi(%neg(%gp_rel(x))) are no longer parsed as a single operator and
decomposed into the three MipsMCExpr nodes. They are parsed directly as
three MipsMCExpr nodes.
* parseMemOperand no longer needs to eat all the surrounding parenthesis
to get at the outermost operator to make this work
* %hi(%neg(%gp_rel(x))) and %lo(%neg(%gp_rel(x))) are no longer the only
3-in-1 relocs that parse for N64. They're still the only combinations that
are permitted in relocatable expressions though. Fixing that should be a
later patch.
* We no longer need to list all the tokens that can occur as the first token of
an expression or immediate.
test/MC/Mips/expr1.s:
This change also prevents the incorrect lowering of %lo(2*4)+foo to
%lo(8+foo) which is not an equivalent expression (the difference is
whether foo is truncated to 16-bit or not) and the test has been
updated to account for the macro expansion the correct expression requires.

This adds partial support for weak functions to the CompileOnDemandLayer by
modifying the addLogicalModule method to check for existing stub definitions
before building a new stub for a weak function. This scheme is sufficient to
support ODR definitions, but fails for general weak definitions if strong
definition is encountered after the first weak definition. (A more extensive
refactor will be required to fully support weak symbols).

This resubmits a3770391c5fb64108d565e12f61dd77ce71b5b4f,
which was reverted due to breakages on non-Windows machines.
Due to differences in template instantiation rules on Microsoft
and non-Microsoft platforms, a member access restriction was
triggering on non-Microsoft compilers. Previously, a friend
declaration for std::vector<> had been introduced into the
DebugMap class to make the member access restriction pass,
but the introduction of support for SmallVector<> meant that
an additional friend declaration would need to be added.
This didn't really make a lot of sense since the user of the
macro is probably only using one type (SmallVector<>, vector<>,
etc) and we could in theory add support for even more types
to this macro in the future (e.g. std::deque), so rather than
add another friend declaration, I just made the type being
referenced a public nested typedef instead of a private nested
typedef.
llvm-svn: 277888
Until now, our use case for the visitor has been to take a stream of bytes
representing a type stream, deserialize the records in sequence, and do
something with them, where "something" is determined by how the user
implements a particular set of callbacks on an abstract class.
For actually writing PDBs, however, we want to do the reverse. We have
some kind of description of the list of records in their in-memory format,
and we want to process each one. Perhaps by serializing them to a byte
stream, or perhaps by converting them from one description format (Yaml)
to another (in-memory representation).
This was difficult in the current model because deserialization and
invoking the callbacks were tightly coupled.
With this patch we change this so that TypeDeserializer is itself an
implementation of the particular set of callbacks. This decouples
deserialization from the iteration over a list of records and invocation
of the callbacks. TypeDeserializer is initialized with another
implementation of the callback interface, so that upon deserialization it
can pass the deserialized record through to the next set of callbacks. In
a sense this is like an implementation of the Decorator design pattern,
where the Deserializer is a decorator.
This will be useful for writing Pdbs from yaml, where we have a
description of the type records in Yaml format. In this case, the visitor
implementation would have each visitation callback method implemented in
such a way as to extract the proper set of fields from the Yaml, and it
could maintain state that builds up a list of these records. Finally at
the end we can pass this information through to another set of callbacks
which serializes them into a byte stream.

So here we teach the PDBFile class to parse a split FPM, and also add more
options when dumping the FPM to display some additional information such
as orphaned pages (pages which the FPM says are allocated, but which
nothing appears to use), use after free pages (pages which the FPM says

does proper error checking, and can be use for error messages.
To do this the name of ArchiveMemberHeader::getName() is changed to
ArchiveMemberHeader::getRawName() to be consistent with

of a new implementation of ArchiveMemberHeader::getName() which gets
the full name and provides proper error checking. Which is mostly a rewrite
of what was Archive::Child::getName() and cleaning up incorrect uses of
llvm_unreachable() in the code which were actually just cases of errors
in the input Archives.

This was a pure virtual base class whose purpose was to abstract
away the notion of how you retrieve the layout of a discontiguous
stream of blocks in an Msf file. This led to too many layers of
abstraction making it difficult to figure out what was going on
and extend things. Ultimately, a stream's layout is decided by
its length and the array of block numbers that it lives on. So
rather than have an abstract base class which can return this in
any number of ways, it's more straightforward to simply store them
as fields of a trivial struct, and also to give a more appropriate
name.
This patch does that. It renames IMsfStreamData to MsfStreamLayout,
and deletes the 2 concrete implementations, DirectoryStreamData
and IndexedStreamData. MsfStreamLayout is a trivial struct
with the necessary data.

This makes it easier to have the writable and readable PDB
interfaces share code since the read/write and write-only
interfaces now share a single allocator, you don't have to worry
about a builder building a read only interface and then having

goes out of scope. Now the allocator is specified explicitly

that is scoped appropriately.

This provides a better layering of responsibilities among different
aspects of PDB writing code. Some of the MSF related code was
contained in CodeView, and some was in PDB prior to this. Further,
we were often saying PDB when we meant MSF, and the two are
actually independent of each other since in theory you can have
other types of data besides PDB data in an MSF. So, this patch
separates the MSF specific code into its own library, with no
dependencies on anything else, and DebugInfoCodeView and
DebugInfoPDB take dependencies on DebugInfoMsf.

Summary:
In the distributed backend case, the ThinLink step and the final native
object link are separate processes. This can be problematic when archive
libraries are involved in the link (e.g. via --start-lib/--end-lib
pairs). The linker only includes objects from libraries when
there is a strong reference to them, and depending on the intervening
ThinLTO backend processes' importing/inlining, the strong references
may appear different in the two link steps. See D22356 and D22467
for two scenarios where this causes issues.
To ensure that the final link includes the same objects, this patch
adds support for an "=filename" form of the thinlto-index-only plugin
option, in which case objects gold included in the link are emitted to
the given filename. This should be used as input to the final link (e.g.
via the @filename option to gold), instead of listing all the objects
within --start-lib/--end-lib pairs again.
Note that the support for the gold callback that identifies included
objects was added in gold version 1.12.

Summary:
This is the first set of changes implementing the RFC from
http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.compilers.llvm.devel/98334
This is a cross-sectional patch; rather than implementing the hotness
attribute for all optimization remarks and all passes in a patch set, it
implements it for the 'missed-optimization' remark for Loop
Distribution. My goal is to shake out the design issues before scaling
it up to other types and passes.
Hotness is computed as an integer as the multiplication of the block
frequency with the function entry count. It's only printed in opt
currently since clang prints the diagnostic fields directly. E.g.:
remark: /tmp/t.c:3:3: loop not distributed: use -Rpass-analysis=loop-distribute for more info (hotness: 300)
A new API added is similar to emitOptimizationRemarkMissed. The
difference is that it additionally takes a code region that the
diagnostic corresponds to. From this, hotness is computed using BFI.
The new API is exposed via an analysis pass so that it can be made

Changes the Archive::child_begin and Archive::children to require a reference
to an Error. If iterator increment fails (because the archive header is
damaged) the iterator will be set to 'end()', and the error stored in the
given Error&. The Error value should be checked by the user immediately after
the loop. E.g.:
Error Err;
for (auto &C : A->children(Err)) {
// Do something with archive child C.
}

While testing a follow-on change to enable index-based symbol resolution
and internalization in the distributed backends, I realized that a test
case change I made in r275247 was only required because we were not
analyzing symbols in the claimed files in thinlto-index-only mode.
In the fixed test case there should be no internalization because we are
linking in -shared mode, so f() is in fact exported, which is detected
properly when we analyze symbols in thinlto-index-only mode. Note that
this is not (yet) a correctness issue (because we are not yet performing
the index-based linkage optimizations in the distributed backends -
that's coming in a follow-on patch).
llvm-svn: 275277
Internalization was missing cases where we originally had a local symbol
that was promoted eagerly but not actually exported. This is because we
were only internalizing the set of global (non-local) symbols that were
PREVAILAING_DEF_IRONLY. Instead, collect the set of global symbols that
are referenced outside of a single IR file, and skip internalization for
those.

We are currently using add_llvm_utility for executable targets that:
1. Are built by default.
2. Used for testing.
3. Are not installed by default.
Originally, lli-child-target used add_llvm_tool instead of add_llvm_executable
directly. This was changed so that lli-child-target would not be installed. This
was good since this is only used for testing and should never be installed for
users. This also had the unfortunate side effect that one can never turn off the
building of lli-child-target by default, a regression for projects that by
default do not want to compile any LLVM tools beyond tablegen/llvm-config.
This patch changes lli-child-target to use add_llvm_utility. This makes sense

1. lli-child-target matches the semantics of executables created with

2. We fix the regression since now one can use the flag LLVM_BUILD_UTILS to

and its clients to use the new llvm::Error model for error handling.
Changed getAsArchive() from ErrorOr<...> to Expected<...> so now all

In the two places it had if (!Parent) this is actually a program error so changed
from returning errorCodeToError(object_error::parse_failed) to calling

In getObjectForArch() added error messages to its two llvm::Error return values
instead of returning errorCodeToError(object_error::arch_not_found) with no

Try to be more clever about selecting the default format. When an existing

This change is motivated by an upcoming change to the metadata representation
used for CFI. The indirect function call checker needs type information for
external function declarations in order to correctly generate jump table
entries for such declarations. We currently associate such type information
with declarations using a global metadata node, but I plan [1] to move all
such metadata to global object attachments.
In bitcode, metadata attachments for function declarations appear in the
global metadata block. This seems reasonable to me because I expect metadata
attachments on declarations to be uncommon. In the long term I'd also expect
this to be the case for CFI, because we'd want to use some specialized bitcode
format for this metadata that could be read as part of the ThinLTO thin-link
phase, which would mean that it would not appear in the global metadata block.
To solve the lazy loaded metadata issue I was seeing with D20147, I use the
same bitcode representation for metadata attachments for global variables as I
do for function declarations. Since there's a use case for metadata attachments
in the global metadata block, we might as well use that representation for
global variables as well, at least until we have a mechanism for lazy loading
global variables.
In the assembly format, the metadata attachments appear after the "declare"
keyword in order to avoid a parsing ambiguity.

llvm-objdump tries to disassemble sections a symbol at a time. In the case of a

symbol is special in that while it is N_SECT symbol in the (__TEXT,__text)

If a local_unnamed_addr attribute is attached to a global, the address
is known to be insignificant within the module. It is distinct from the
existing unnamed_addr attribute in that it only describes a local property
of the module rather than a global property of the symbol.
This attribute is intended to be used by the code generator and LTO to allow
the linker to decide whether the global needs to be in the symbol table. It is
possible to exclude a global from the symbol table if three things are true:
- This attribute is present on every instance of the global (which means that
the normal rule that the global must have a unique address can be broken without
being observable by the program by performing comparisons against the global's
address)
- The global has linkonce_odr linkage (which means that each linkage unit must have
its own copy of the global if it requires one, and the copy in each linkage unit
must be the same)
- It is a constant or a function (which means that the program cannot observe that
the unique-address rule has been broken by writing to the global)
Although this attribute could in principle be computed from the module
contents, LTO clients (i.e. linkers) will normally need to be able to compute
this property as part of symbol resolution, and it would be inefficient to
materialize every module just to compute it.

This is great to test the interaction of two passes that are not

Note: I also moved the run pass option from CommandFlags.h to llc.cpp

llvm-svn: 272356
This is made possible by removing an assert in llc that assumed

that it returns null if a parsing error occurs, so there's no reason to assert.

In order to efficiently write PDBs, we need to be able to make a
StreamWriter class similar to a StreamReader, which can transparently deal
with writing to discontiguous streams, and we need to use this for all
writing, similar to how we use StreamReader for all reading.
Most discontiguous streams are the typical numbered streams that appear in
a PDB file and are described by the directory, but the exception to this,
that until now has been parsed by hand, is the directory itself.
MappedBlockStream works by querying the directory to find out which blocks
a stream occupies and various other things, so naturally the same logic
could not possibly work to describe the blocks that the directory itself
resided on.
To solve this, I've introduced an abstraction IPDBStreamData, which allows
the client to query for the list of blocks occupied by the stream, as well
as the stream length. I provide two implementations of this: one which
queries the directory (for indexed streams), and one which queries the
super block (for the directory stream).
This has the side benefit of vastly simplifying the code to parse the
directory. Whereas before a mini state machine was rolled by hand, now we
simply use FixedStreamArray to read out the stream sizes, then build a
vector of FixedStreamArrays for the stream map, all in just a few lines of
code.

Summary:
Previously we would try to load PDBs for every PE executable we tried to
symbolize. If that failed, we would fall back to DWARF. If there wasn't
any DWARF, we'd print mostly useless symbol information using the export
table.
With this change, we only try to load PDBs for executables that claim to
have them. If that fails, we can now print an error rather than falling
back silently. This should make it a lot easier to diagnose and fix
common symbolization issues, such as not having DIA or not having a PDB.

Although ld64 always outputs linkedit data in the same order, it isn't actually required to. This change makes yaml2obj resilient if the offsets are in arbitrary order.
llvm-svn: 271687
When printing line information and file checksums, we were printing
the file offset field from the struct header. This teaches
llvm-pdbdump how to turn those numbers into the filename. In the
case of file checksums, this is done by looking in the global
string table. In the case of line contributions, this is done
by indexing into the file names buffer of the DBI stream. Why
they use a different technique I don't know.
llvm-svn: 271630
To facilitate this, a couple of changes had to be made:
1. `ModuleSubstream` got moved from `DebugInfo/PDB` to
`DebugInfo/CodeView`, and various codeview related types are defined
there. It turns out `DebugInfo/CodeView/Line.h` already defines many of
these structures, but this is really old code that is not endian aware,
doesn't interact well with `StreamInterface` and not very helpful for
getting stuff out of a PDB. Eventually we should migrate the old readobj
`COFFDumper` code to these new structures, or at least merge their
functionality somehow.
2. A `ModuleSubstream` visitor is introduced. Depending on where your
module substream array comes from, different subsets of record types can
be expected. We are already hand parsing these substream arrays in many
places especially in `COFFDumper.cpp`. In the future we can migrate these
paths to the visitor as well, which should reduce a lot of code in
`COFFDumper.cpp`.

Unlike other sections that can grow to any size, the COFF section header

create a specific stream class for it. Instead, I added a member function

PDBs can be extremely large. We're already mapping the entire
PDB into the process's address space, but to make matters worse
the blocks of the PDB are not arranged contiguously. So, when
we have something like an array or a string embedded into the
stream, we have to make a copy. Since it's convenient to use
traditional data structures to iterate and manipulate these
records, we need the memory to be contiguous.
As a result of this, we were using roughly twice as much memory
as the file size of the PDB, because every stream was copied
out and re-stitched together contiguously.
This patch addresses this by improving the MappedBlockStream
to allocate from a BumpPtrAllocator only when a read requires
a discontiguous read. Furthermore, it introduces some data
structures backed by a stream which can iterate over both
fixed and variable length records of a PDB. Since everything
is backed by a stream and not a buffer, we can read almost
everything from the PDB with zero copies.

Summary:
Several changes were required for ThinLTO links involving bitcode
archive static libraries. With this patch clang/llvm bootstraps with
ThinLTO and gold.
The first is that the gold callbacks get_input_file and
release_input_file can normally be used to get file information for
each constituent bitcode file within an archive. However, these
interfaces lock the underlying file and can't be for each archive
constituent for ThinLTO backends where we get all the input files up
front and don't release any until after the backend threads complete.
However, it is sufficient to only get and release once per file, and
then each consituent bitcode file can be accessed via get_view. This
required saving some information to identify which file handle is the
"leader" for each claimed file sharing the same file descriptor, and
other information so that get_input_file isn't necessary later when
processing the backends.
Second, the module paths in the index need to distinguish between
different constituent bitcode files within the same archive file,
otherwise they will all end up with the same archive file path.
Do this by appending the offset within the archive for the start of the
bitcode file, returned by get_input_file when we claim each bitcode file,
and saving that along with the file handle.
Third, rather than have the function importer try to load a file based
on the module path identifier (which now contains a suffix to
distinguish different bitcode files within an archive), use a custom
module loader. This is the same approach taken in libLTO, and I am using
the support refactored into the new LTO.h header in r270509. The module
loader parses the bitcode files out of the memory buffers returned from
gold via the get_view callback and saved in a map. This also means that
we call the function importer directly, rather than add it to the pass
pipeline (which was in the plan to do already for other reasons).

Richard Smith identified this in post commit review of r270466. The
string sections in particular (in the future, possibly all sections - so
I'm not going to bother pulling out just the string sections for the
extra lifetime handling right now) need to remain valid during
processing of all inputs so that elements of the DWPStringPool can be
looked up repeatedly without having to make in-memory copies of string
contents in the noncompressed case (more common in dwp+dwp merge steps
where the memory is a bigger problem because the files are larger).
Using the SmallVector (or any vector) a reallocation on push_back could
cause any of the nested SmallStrings in small mode to move in memory and
invalid pointers to their contents. Using a deque the SmallStrings will
never move around since no elements are removed from the container.

DiagnosticSeverity in LLVMContext.h, and fixed an UB in the new change.

Without a diagnostic handler installed, llc's behaviour is to exit on the first
error that it encounters. This is very different from the behaviour of clang
and other front ends, which try to gather as many errors as possible before
exiting.
This commit adds a diagnostic handler to llc, allowing it to find and report
more than one error. The old behaviour is preserved under a flag (-exit-on-error).
Some of the tests fail with the new diagnostic handler, so they have to use the
new flag in order to run under the previous behaviour. Some of these are known
bugs, others need further investigation. Ideally, we should fix the tests and
remove the flag at some point in the future.

Summary:
This code is intended to be used as part of LLD's PDB writing. Until
that exists, this is exposed via llvm-readobj for testing purposes.
Type stream merging uses the following algorithm:
- Begin with a new empty stream, and a new empty hash table that maps
from type record contents to new type index.
- For each new type stream, maintain a map from source type index to
destination type index.
- For each record, copy it and rewrite its type indices to be valid in
the destination type stream.
- If the new type record is not already present in the destination
stream hash table, append it to the destination type stream, assign it
the next type index, and update the two hash tables.
- If the type record already exists in the destination stream, discard
it and update the type index map to forward the source type index to
the existing destination type index.

Transition InstrProf and Coverage over to the stricter Error/Expected
interface.
Changes since the initial commit:
- Fix error message printing in llvm-profdata.
- Check errors in loadTestingFormat() + annotateAllFunctions().
- Defer error handling in InstrProfIterator to InstrProfReader.

Publics stream seems to contain information as to public symbols.
It actually contains a serialized hash table along with fixed-sized
headers. This patch is not complete. It scans only till the end of
the stream and dump the header information. I'll write code to
de-serialize the hash table later.

This patch adds basic support for MachO::load_command. Load command types and sizes are encoded in the YAML and expanded back into MachO.
The YAML doesn't yet support load command structs, that is coming next. In the meantime as a temporary measure when writing MachO files the load commands are padded with zeros so that the generated binary is valid.

This reverts commit r269428, as it breaks the LLDB build. We need to
understand how to change LLDB in the same way as LLC before landing this
again.

In verbose mode, we emit a warning if the DWOId of a skeleton CU
mismatches the DWOId of the referenced module. This patch updates the
cached DWOId after a module has been loaded to the DWOId of the module
on disk (instead of storing the DWOId we expected to load). This
allows us to correctly emit the mismatch warning for all subsequent
object files that want to import the same module. This patch also
ensures both warnings are only emitted in verbose mode.
