Change
std::error_code getSectionContents(DataRefImpl, StringRef &) const;
to
Expected<ArrayRef<uint8_t>> getSectionContents(DataRefImpl) const;
Many object formats use ArrayRef<uint8_t> as the underlying type, which
is generally better than StringRef to represent binary data, so change
the type to decrease the number of type conversions.

to reflect the new license.
We understand that people may be surprised that we're moving the header
entirely to discuss the new license. We checked this carefully with the
Foundation's lawyer and we believe this is the correct approach.
Essentially, all code in the project is now made available by the LLVM
project under our new license, so you will see that the license headers
include that license only. Some of our contributors have contributed
code under our old license, and accordingly, we have retained a copy of
our old license notice in the top-level files in each project and
repository.

getRelocationValueString is a dispatcher function that calls the
corresponding ELF/COFF/Wasm/MachO implementations
that currently live in the llvm-objdump.cpp file.
These implementations better be moved to ELFDump.cpp,
COFFDump.cpp and other corresponding files, to move platform specific
implementation out from the common logic.
The patch does that. Also, I had to move ToolSectionFilter helper
and SectionFilterIterator, SectionFilter to a header to make them
available across the objdump code.

This is a cosmetic cleanup for the llvm-objdump code.
This patch:
* Renames things to match the official LLVM code style (lower case -> upper case).
* Removes few obviously excessive variables.
* Moves a few lines closer to the place of use, reorders the code a bit to simplify it,
to avoid doing excessive returns and to avoid using 'else` after returns.
I focused only on a llvm-objdump.h/llvm-objdump.cpp files. Few changes in the
MachODump.cpp and COFFDump.cpp are a result of llvm-objdump.h modification.

We've been running doxygen with the autobrief option for a couple of
years now. This makes the \brief markers into our comments
redundant. Since they are a visual distraction and we don't want to
encourage more \brief markers in new code either, this patch removes
them all.

Summary:
r327219 added wrappers to std::sort which randomly shuffle the container before sorting.
This will help in uncovering non-determinism caused due to undefined sorting
order of objects having the same key.
To make use of that infrastructure we need to invoke llvm::sort instead of std::sort.
Note: This patch is one of a series of patches to replace *all* std::sort to llvm::sort.
Refer the comments section in D44363 for a list of all the required patches.

This adds behaviour similar to binutils' objdump which can show symbols in an
import library. Differences from that stem around the fact that we do not
create section symbols nor the all import import descriptor symbol reference.
However, this does mean that the tool can serve as a possible replacement for
the existing tool.
llvm-svn: 279088
We had import_directory_table_entry and
coff_import_directory_table_entry, remove one. Also, factor out the
logic which determins if a descriptor is a terminator.
llvm-svn: 277296
The last import is the penultimate entry, the last entry is nulled out.
Data beyond the null entry should not be considered to hold import
entries.
This fixes PR28302.
N.B. I am working on a reduced testcase, the one in PR28302 is too
large.

a good error message to be produced.
This is nearly the last libObject interface that used ErrorOr and the last one
that appears in llvm/include/llvm/Object/MachO.h . For Mach-O objects this is
just a clean up because it’s version of getSymbolAddress() can’t return an
error.
I will leave it to the experts on COFF and ELF to actually add meaning full
error messages in their tests if they wish. And also leave it to these experts
to change the last two ErrorOr interfaces in llvm/include/llvm/Object/ObjectFile.h
for createCOFFObjectFile() and createELFObjectFile() if they wish.
Since there are no test cases for COFF and ELF error cases with respect to
getSymbolAddress() in the test suite this is no functional change (NFC).

This is a support COFF feature. Ensure that we can display the weak externals
auxiliary symbol. It contains useful information (such as the default binding
and how to resolve the symbol).
This reapplies the previous patch with a modification which hopefully should fix
the endianness issues. The variadic call would promote the ulittle32_t to a
uint32_t which would lose the byte-swapping behaviour desired.

Produce another specific error message for a malformed Mach-O file when a symbol’s
section index is more than the number of sections. The existing test case in test/Object/macho-invalid.test
for macho-invalid-section-index-getSectionRawName now reports the error with the message indicating
that a symbol at a specific index has a bad section index and that bad section index value.
Again converting interfaces to Expected<> from ErrorOr<> does involve
touching a number of places. Where the existing code reported the error with a
string message or an error code it was converted to do the same.
Also there some were bugs in the existing code that did not deal with the
old ErrorOr<> return values. So now with Expected<> since they must be
checked and the error handled, I added a TODO and a comment:
"// TODO: Actually report errors helpfully" and a call something like
consumeError(NameOrErr.takeError()) so the buggy code will not crash
since needed to deal with the Error.

Produce another specific error message for a malformed Mach-O file when a symbol’s
string index is past the end of the string table. The existing test case in test/Object/macho-invalid.test
for macho-invalid-symbol-name-past-eof now reports the error with the message indicating
that a symbol at a specific index has a bad sting index and that bad string index value.
Again converting interfaces to Expected<> from ErrorOr<> does involve
touching a number of places. Where the existing code reported the error with a
string message or an error code it was converted to do the same. There is some
code for this that could be factored into a routine but I would like to leave that for
the code owners post-commit to do as they want for handling an llvm::Error. An
example of how this could be done is shown in the diff in
lib/ExecutionEngine/RuntimeDyld/RuntimeDyldImpl.h which had a Check() routine
already for std::error_code so I added one like it for llvm::Error .
Also there some were bugs in the existing code that did not deal with the

Note there fixes needed to lld that goes along with this that I will commit right after this.
So expect lld not to built after this commit and before the next one.

Previously we kept going on partly corrupted input, which might result
in garbage being printed, or even worse, random crashes.
Rafael mentioned that this is the GNU behavior as well, but after some
discussion we both agreed it's probably better to emit a reasonable
error message and exit. As a side-effect of this commit, now we don't
rely on global state for error codes anymore. objdump was the last tool
in the toolchain which needed to be converted. Hopefully the old behavior
won't sneak into the tree again.
llvm-svn: 244019
This function can really fail since the string table offset can be out of
bounds.
Using ErrorOr makes sure the error is checked.
Hopefully a lot of the boilerplate code in tools/* can go away once we have
a diagnostic manager in Object.
llvm-svn: 241297
make_error_code(object_error) is slow because object::object_category()
uses a ManagedStatic variable. But the real problem is that the function is
called too frequently. This patch uses std::error_code() instead of
object_error::success. In most cases, we return "success", so this patch
reduces number of function calls to that function.

This adds support for reading the "bigobj" variant of COFF produced by
cl's /bigobj and mingw's -mbig-obj.
The most significant difference that bigobj brings is more than 2**16
sections to COFF.
bigobj brings a few interesting differences with it:
- It doesn't have a Characteristics field in the file header.
- It doesn't have a SizeOfOptionalHeader field in the file header (it's
only used in executable files).
- Auxiliary symbol records have the same width as a symbol table entry.
Since symbol table entries are bigger, so are auxiliary symbol
records.
Write support will come soon.

Unwind info contents were indented at the same level as function table
contents. That's a bit confusing because the unwind info is pointed by
function table. In other places we usually increment indentation depth
by one when dereferncing a pointer.
This patch also removes extraneous newlines between function tables.
llvm-svn: 202879
The original code does not work correctly on executable files because the
code is written in such a way that only object files are assumed to be given
to llvm-objdump.
Contents of RuntimeFunction are different between executables and objects. In
executables, fields in RuntimeFunction have actual addresses to unwind info
structures. On the other hand, in object files, the fields have zero value,
but instead there are relocations pointing to the fields, so that Linker will
fill them at link-time.
So, when we are reading an object file, we need to use relocation info to
find the location of unwind info. When executable, we should just look at the
values in RuntimeFunction.
