This changes the order of output sections and the output assembly, but
is otherwise NFC.
It simplifies the TLOF interface by removing two COFF-only methods.
This rewrites big parts of the fast register allocator. The basic
strategy of doing block-local allocation hasn't changed but I tweaked
several details:
Track register state on register units instead of physical
registers. This simplifies and speeds up handling of register aliases.
Process basic blocks in reverse order: Definitions are known to end
register livetimes when walking backwards (contrary when walking
forward then uses may or may not be a kill so we need heuristics).
Check register mask operands (calls) instead of conservatively
assuming everything is clobbered. Enhance heuristics to detect
killing uses: In case of a small number of defs/uses check if they are
all in the same basic block and if so the last one is a killing use.
Enhance heuristic for copy-coalescing through hinting: We check the
first k defs of a register for COPYs rather than relying on there just
being a single definition. When testing this on the full llvm
test-suite including SPEC externals I measured:
average 5.1% reduction in code size for X86, 4.9% reduction in code on
aarch64. (ranging between 0% and 20% depending on the test) 0.5%
faster compiletime (some analysis suggests the pass is slightly slower
than before, but we more than make up for it because later passes are
faster with the reduced instruction count)
Also adds a few testcases that were broken without this patch, in
particular bug 47278.

This adds SoftenFloatRes, PromoteFloatRes and SoftPromoteHalfRes
legalizations for VECREDUCE, to fill the remaining hole in the SDAG

let it be recursively legalized. For the PromoteFloatRes case at
least it is possible to do better than that, but it's pretty tricky
(because we need to consider the interaction of three different
vector legalizations and the type promotion) and probably not
really worthwhile.

This change permits scalar bfloats to be loaded, stored, moved and

feature is supported by the subtarget.
Previously that was only supported in the presence of the fullfp16
feature, because the code generation strategy depended on instructions
from that extension. This change adds alternative code generation
strategies so that those operations can be done even without fullfp16.
The strategy for loads and stores is to replace VLDRH/VSTRH with
integer LDRH/STRH plus a move between register classes. I've written
isel patterns for those, conditional on //not// having the fullfp16
feature (so that in the fullfp16 case, the existing patterns will
still be used).
For function arguments and returns, instead of writing isel patterns
to match `VMOVhr` and `VMOVrh`, I've avoided generating those SDNodes
in the first place, by factoring out the code that constructs them
into helper functions `MoveToHPR` and `MoveFromHPR` which have a
fallback for non-fullfp16 subtargets.
The current output code is not especially pretty: in the new test file
you can see unnecessary store/load pairs implementing no-op bitcasts,
and lots of pointless moves back and forth between FP registers and
GPRs. But it at least works, which is an improvement on the previous
situation.

For IR generated by a compiler, this is really simple: you just take the
datalayout from the beginning of the file, and apply it to all the IR
later in the file. For optimization testcases that don't care about the
datalayout, this is also really simple: we just use the default
datalayout.
The complexity here comes from the fact that some LLVM tools allow
overriding the datalayout: some tools have an explicit flag for this,
some tools will infer a datalayout based on the code generation target.
Supporting this properly required plumbing through a bunch of new
machinery: we want to allow overriding the datalayout after the
datalayout is parsed from the file, but before we use any information
from it. Therefore, IR/bitcode parsing now has a callback to allow tools
to compute the datalayout at the appropriate time.
Not sure if I covered all the LLVM tools that want to use the callback.
(clang? lli? Misc IR manipulation tools like llvm-link?). But this is at
least enough for all the LLVM regression tests, and IR without a
datalayout is not something frontends should generate.
This change had some sort of weird effects for certain CodeGen
regression tests: if the datalayout is overridden with a datalayout with
a different program or stack address space, we now parse IR based on the
overridden datalayout, instead of the one written in the file (or the
default one, if none is specified). This broke a few AVR tests, and one
AMDGPU test.
Outside the CodeGen tests I mentioned, the test changes are all just
fixing CHECK lines and moving around datalayout lines in weird places.

allocas in LLVM IR have a specified alignment. When that alignment is
specified, the alloca has at least that alignment at runtime.
If the specified type of the alloca has a higher preferred alignment,
SelectionDAG currently ignores that specified alignment, and increases
the alignment. It does this even if it would trigger stack realignment.
I don't think this makes sense, so this patch changes that.
I was looking into this for SVE in particular: for SVE, overaligning
vscale'ed types is extra expensive because it requires realigning the
stack multiple times, or using dynamic allocation. (This currently isn't
implemented.)
I updated the expected assembly for a couple tests; in particular, for
arg-copy-elide.ll, the optimization in question does not increase the
alignment the way SelectionDAG normally would. For the rest, I just
increased the specified alignment on the allocas to match what
SelectionDAG was inferring.

CorrectExtraCFGEdges function.
The latter was a workaround for "Various pieces of code" leaving bogus
extra CFG edges in place. Where by "various" it meant only
IfConverter::MergeBlocks, which failed to clear all of the successors
of dead blocks it emptied out. This wouldn't matter a whole lot,
except that the dead blocks remained listed as predecessors of
still-useful blocks, inhibiting optimizations.
This fix slightly changed two thumb tests, because the correct CFG
successors allowed for the "diamond" if-conversion pattern to be
detected, when it could only use "simple" before.
Additionally, the removal of a now-redundant call to analyzeBranch
(with AllowModify=true) in BranchFolder::OptimizeFunction caused a
later check for an empty block in BranchFolder::OptimizeBlock to
fail. Correct this by moving the call to analyzeBranch in
OptimizeBlock higher.

These tests contain debug instructions which get checked, so we can't
insert synthetic debug info and expect the tests to pass.
The rest of the ARM backend tests appear to be fair game.
This adds some extra processing into the Pre-RA ARM load/store optimizer
to detect and merge MVE loads/stores and adds of the same base. This we
don't always turn into a post-inc during ISel, and due to the nature of
it being a graph we don't always know an order to use for the nodes, not
knowing which nodes to make post-inc and which to use the new post-inc
of. After ISel, we have an order that we can use to post-inc the
following instructions.
So this looks for a loads/store with a starting offset of 0, and an
add/sub from the same base, plus a number of other loads/stores. We then
do some checks and convert the zero offset load/store into a postinc
variant. Any loads/stores after it have the offset subtracted from their
immediates. For example:
LDR #4 LDR #4
LDR #0 LDR_POSTINC #16
LDR #8 LDR #-8
LDR #12 LDR #-4
ADD #16
It only handles MVE loads/stores at the moment. Normal loads/store will
be added in a followup patch, they just have some extra details to
ensure that we keep generating LDRD/LDM successfully.

Summary:
No error or warning is emitted when specific reserved registers are
written to in inline assembly. Therefore, writes to the program counter
or to the frame pointer, for instance, were permitted, which could have
led to undesirable behaviour.
Example:
int foo() {
register int a __asm__("r7"); // r7 = frame-pointer in M-class ARM
__asm__ __volatile__("mov %0, r1" : "=r"(a) : : );
return a;
}
In contrast, GCC issues an error in the same scenario.
This patch detects writes to specific reserved registers in inline
assembly for ARM and emits an error in such case. The detection works
for output and input operands. Clobber operands are not handled here:
they are already covered at a later point in
AsmPrinter::emitInlineAsm(const MachineInstr *MI). The registers
covered are: program counter, frame pointer and base pointer.
This is ARM only. Therefore the implementation of other targets'

worth saving and restoring some of r0-r3, if IPRA will be able to take

have a PUSH/POP pair, and increases the number of available registers
across any calls to the function.
We already have an optimisation which tries fold the subtract/add of the

The alias analysis in DAG Combine looks at the BaseAlign, the Offset and
the Size of two accesses, and determines if they are known to access
different parts of memory by the fact that they are different offsets
from inside that "alignment window". It does not seem to account for
accesses that are not a multiple of the size, and may overflow from one
alignment window into another.
For example in the test case we have a 19byte memset that is splits into
a 16 byte neon store and an unaligned 4 byte store with a 15 byte
offset. This 15byte offset (with a base align of 8) wraps around to the
next alignment windows. When compared to an access that is a 16byte
offset (of the same 4byte size and 8byte basealign), the two accesses
are said not to alias.
I've fixed this here by just ensuring that the offsets are a multiple of
the size, ensuring that they don't overlap by wrapping. Fixes PR45035,
which was exposed by the UseAA changes in the arm backend.

This adds infrastructure to print and parse MIR MachineOperand comments.
The motivation for the ARM backend is to print condition code names instead of
magic constants that are difficult to read (for human beings). For example,
instead of this:
dead renamable $r2, $cpsr = tEOR killed renamable $r2, renamable $r1, 14, $noreg
t2Bcc %bb.4, 0, killed $cpsr
we now print this:
dead renamable $r2, $cpsr = tEOR killed renamable $r2, renamable $r1, 14 /* CC::always */, $noreg
t2Bcc %bb.4, 0 /* CC:eq */, killed $cpsr
This shows that MachineOperand comments are enclosed between /* and */. In this
example, the EOR instruction is not conditionally executed (i.e. it is "always
executed"), which is encoded by the 14 immediate machine operand. Thus, now
this machine operand has /* CC::always */ as a comment. The 0 on the next
conditional branch instruction represents the equal condition code, thus now
this operand has /* CC:eq */ as a comment.
As it is a comment, the MI lexer/parser completely ignores it. The benefit is
that this keeps the change in the lexer extremely minimal and no target
specific parsing needs to be done. The changes on the MIPrinter side are also
minimal, as there is only one target hooks that is used to create the machine
operand comments.

For `MC_GlobalAddress` operands referencing **certain** GlobalObjects,
we can lower them to STB_LOCAL aliases to avoid costs brought by
assembler/linker's conservative decisions about symbol interposition:
* An assembler conservatively assumes a global default visibility symbol interposable (ELF
semantics). So relocations in object files are needed even if the code generator assumed
the definition exact and non-interposable.
* The relocations can cause the creation of PLT entries on some targets for -shared links.
A linker conservatively assumes a global default visibility symbol interposable (if not
otherwise constrained by -Bsymbolic/--dynamic-list/VER_NDX_LOCAL/etc).
"certain" refers to GlobalObjects in the intersection of
`hasExactDefinition() and !isInterposable()`: `external`, `appending`, `internal`, `private`.
Local linkages (`internal` and `private`) cannot be interposed. `appending` is for very
few objects LLVM interpret specially. So the set just includes `external`.
This patch emits STB_LOCAL aliases (.Lfoo$local) for such GlobalObjects, so that targets can lower
MC_GlobalAddress operands to STB_LOCAL aliases if applicable.
We may extend the scope and include GlobalAlias in the future.
LLVM's existing -fno-semantic-interposition behaviors give us license to do such optimizations:
* Various optimizations (ipconstprop, inliner, sccp, sroa, etc) treat normal ExternalLinkage
GlobalObjects as non-interposable.
* Before D72197, MC resolved a PC-relative VK_None fixup to a non-local symbol at assembly time (no
outstanding relocation), if the target is defined in the same section. Put it simply, even if IR
optimizations failed to optimize and allowed interposition for the function call in
`void foo() {} void bar() { foo(); }`, the assembler would disallow it.
This patch sets up AsmPrinter infrastructure to make -fno-semantic-interposition more so.
With and without the patch, the object file output should be identical:
`.Lfoo$local` does not take a symbol table entry.

does not do any cleanup. In multithreading environment such as ThinLTO or JIT,
threads may share states which mostly are ManagedStatic<>. If faulting thread
tearing down a class when another thread is using it, there are chances of
memory corruption. This is bad 1. It will stop error reporting like pretty
stack printer; 2. The memory corruption is distracting and nondeterministic in
terms of error message, and corruption type (depending one the timing, it
could be double free, heap free after use, etc.).

Summary:
This patch fixes pr23772 [ARM] r226200 can emit illegal thumb2 instruction: "sub sp, r12, #80".
The violation was that SUB and ADD (reg, immediate) instructions can only write to SP if the source register is also SP. So the above instructions was unpredictable.
To enforce that the instruction t2(ADD|SUB)ri does not write to SP we now enforce the destination register to be rGPR (That exclude PC and SP).
Different than the ARM specification, that defines one instruction that can read from SP, and one that can't, here we inserted one that can't write to SP, and other that can only write to SP as to reuse most of the hard-coded size optimizations.
When performing this change, it uncovered that emitting Thumb2 Reg plus Immediate could not emit all variants of ADD SP, SP #imm instructions before so it was refactored to be able to. (see test/CodeGen/Thumb2/mve-stacksplot.mir where we use a subw sp, sp, Imm12 variant )
It also uncovered a disassembly issue of adr.w instructions, that were only written as SUBW instructions (see llvm/test/MC/Disassembler/ARM/thumb2.txt).

Architecturally, it's allowed to have MVE-I without an FPU, thus
-mfpu=none should not disable MVE-I, or moves to/from FP-registers.
This patch removes `+/-fpregs` from features unconditionally added to
target feature list, depending on FPU and moves the logic to Clang
driver, where the negative form (`-fpregs`) is conditionally added to
the target features list for the cases of `-mfloat-abi=soft`, or
`-mfpu=none` without either `+mve` or `+mve.fp`. Only the negative

This is a recommit of D71330, but with a few things fixed and changed:
1) ReachingDefAnalysis: this was not running with optnone as it was checking
skipFunction(), which other analysis passes don't do. I guess this is a
copy-paste from a codegen pass.
2) VPTBlockPass: here I've added skipFunction(), because like most/all
optimisations, we don't want to run this with optnone.
This fixes the issues with the initial/previous commit: the VPTBlockPass was
running with optnone, but ReachingDefAnalysis wasn't, and so VPTBlockPass was
crashing querying ReachingDefAnalysis.
I've added test case mve-vpt-block-optnone.mir to check that we don't run

This reverts commit 1f3dd83cc1, reapplying
commit bb1b0bc4e5.
The original commit failed on some builds seemingly due to the use of a
bracketed constructor with an std::array, i.e. `std::array<> arr({...})`.
Previously, LLVM had no functional way of performing casts inside of a
DIExpression(), which made salvaging cast instructions other than Noop
casts impossible. This patch enables the salvaging of casts by using the
DW_OP_LLVM_convert operator for SExt and Trunc instructions.
There is another issue which is exposed by this fix, in which fragment
DIExpressions (which are preserved more readily by this patch) for
values that must be split across registers in ISel trigger an assertion,
as the 'split' fragments extend beyond the bounds of the fragment
DIExpression causing an error. This patch also fixes this issue by
checking the fragment status of DIExpressions which are to be split, and
dropping fragments that are invalid.
The following intrinsics currently carry a rounding mode metadata argument:
llvm.experimental.constrained.minnum
llvm.experimental.constrained.maxnum
llvm.experimental.constrained.ceil
llvm.experimental.constrained.floor
llvm.experimental.constrained.round
llvm.experimental.constrained.trunc
This is not useful since the semantics of those intrinsics do not in any way
depend on the rounding mode. In similar cases, other constrained intrinsics
do not have the rounding mode argument. Remove it here as well.

During SelectionDAG, if a value which is associated with a DBG_VALUE
needs to be split across multiple registers, the DBG_VALUE will be split
into a set of fragment expressions to recreate the original value.

Summary:
This fixes PR44135.
The special case when we promote a bitcast from a vector to an int
needs special handling when we are on a big-endian target.
Prior to this fix, for the added vec_to_int we see the following in the
SelectionDAG printouts
Type-legalized selection DAG: %bb.1 'foo:bb.1'
SelectionDAG has 9 nodes:
t0: ch = EntryToken
t2: v8i16,ch = CopyFromReg t0, Register:v8i16 %0
t17: v4i32 = bitcast t2
t23: i32 = extract_vector_elt t17, Constant:i32<3>
t8: ch,glue = CopyToReg t0, Register:i32 $r0, t23
t9: ch = ARMISD::RET_FLAG t8, Register:i32 $r0, t8:1
and I think here the extract_vector_elt is wrong and extracts the value
from the wrong index.
The program program should return the 32 bits made up of the elements at
index 4 and 5 in the vec6 array, but with
t23: i32 = extract_vector_elt t17, Constant:i32<3>
as far as I can tell, we will extract values that originally didn't even
exist in the vec6 vectore.
If we would instead extract the element at index 2 we would get the wanted
values.
With this fix we insert a right shift after the bitcast in
DAGTypeLegalizer::PromoteIntRes_BITCAST which then gives us
Type-legalized selection DAG: %bb.1 'vec_to_int:bb.1'
SelectionDAG has 9 nodes:
t0: ch = EntryToken
t2: v8i16,ch = CopyFromReg t0, Register:v8i16 %0
t23: v4i32 = bitcast t2
t27: i32 = extract_vector_elt t23, Constant:i32<2>
t8: ch,glue = CopyToReg t0, Register:i32 $r0, t27
t9: ch = ARMISD::RET_FLAG t8, Register:i32 $r0, t8:1
So now we get
t27: i32 = extract_vector_elt t23, Constant:i32<2>
which is what we want.
Similarly, the new int_to_vec testcase exposes a bug where we cast the other
direction. Then we instead need to add a left shift before the bitcast on
big-endian targets for the bits in the input integer to end up at the exptected
place in the vector.

This adds a hook to allow targets to define exactly what extension
operation should be performed for widening constants. This handles cases
like widening i1 true which would end up becoming -1 which affects code
quality during combines.
Additionally, in order to stay consistent with how DAG is promoting
constants, we now signextend for byte sized types and zero extend
otherwise (by default). Targets can of course override this if
necessary.
Convert ARMCodeGenPrepare into a generic type promotion pass by:
- Removing the insertion of arm specific intrinsics to handle narrow
types as we weren't using this.
- Removing ARMSubtarget references.
- Now query a generic TLI object to know which types should be
promoted and what they should be promoted to.
- Move all codegen tests into Transforms folder and testing using opt
and not llc, which is how they should have been written in the
first place...
The pass searches up from icmp operands in an attempt to safely
promote types so we can avoid generating unnecessary unsigned extends
during DAG ISel.
