On Linux, a QEnvironment packet is sent for every environment variable.
This breaks replay when the number of environment variables is different
then during capture. The solution is to always reply with OK.

This patch fixes:
UUIDs now don't include the age field from a PDB70 when the age is zero. Prior to this they would incorrectly contain the zero age which stopped us from being able to match up the UUID with real files.
UUIDs for Apple targets get the first 32 bit value and next two 16 bit values swapped. Breakpad incorrectly swaps these values when it creates darwin minidump files, so this must be undone so we can match up symbol files with the minidump modules.
UUIDs that are all zeroes are treated as invalid UUIDs. Breakpad will always save out a UUID, even if one wasn't available. This caused all files that have UUID values of zero to be uniqued to the first module that had a zero UUID. We now don't fill in the UUID if it is all zeroes.
Added tests for PDB70 and ELF build ID based CvRecords.

My apologies for the large patch. With the exception of ConstString.h
itself it was entirely produced by sed.
ConstString has exactly one const char * data member, so passing a
ConstString by reference is not any more efficient than copying it by
value. In both cases a single pointer is passed. But passing it by
value makes it harder to accidentally return the address of a local
object.

Core files need to know the size of the PRSTATUS header so that we can grab the register values that follow it. The code that figure out this size was using a hard coded list of architecture cores instead of relying on 32 or 64 bit for most cores.
The fix here fixes core files for 32 bit ARM. Prior to this the PRSTATUS header size was being returned as zero and the register values were being taken from the first bytes of the PRSTATUS struct (signo, etc).

Summary:
This creates an abstract base class called "UserIDResolver", which can
be implemented to provide user/group ID resolution capabilities for
various objects. Posix host implement a PosixUserIDResolver, which does
that using posix apis (getpwuid and friends). PlatformGDBRemote
forwards queries over the gdb-remote link, etc. ProcessInstanceInfo
class is refactored to make use of this interface instead of taking a
platform pointer as an argument. The base resolver class already
implements caching and thread-safety, so implementations don't have to
worry about that.
The main motivating factor for this was to remove external dependencies
from the ProcessInstanceInfo class (so it can be put next to
ProcessLaunchInfo and friends), but it has other benefits too:
- ability to test the user name caching code
- ability to test ProcessInstanceInfo dumping code
- consistent interface for user/group resolution between Platform and
Host classes.

Use '127.0.0.1' instead of 'localhost' in ConnectLocally() function
as this is the specific address the server is bound to. Using
'localhost' may involve trying IPv6 first which may accidentally be used
by another service.
While technically it might be interesting to support IPv6 here, it would
need to be supported properly, with the connection copying family
and address from the listening socket, and possibly without relying
on existence of 'localhost' at all.

Given that we have a target named Symbols, one wonders why a
file named Symbols.cpp is not in this target. To be clear,
the functions exposed from this file are really focused on
*locating* a symbol file on a given host, which is where the
ambiguity comes in. However, it makes more sense conceptually
to be in the Symbols target. While some of the specific places
to search for symbol files might change depending on the Host,
this is not inherently true in the same way that, for example,
"accessing the file system" or "starting threads" is
fundamentally dependent on the Host.
PDBs, for example, recently became a reality on non-Windows platforms,
and it's theoretically possible that DSYMs could become a thing on non
MacOSX platforms (maybe in a remote debugging scenario). Other types of
symbol files, such as DWO, DWP, etc have never been tied to any Host
platform anyway.
After this patch, there is only one remaining dependency from
Host to Target.

This reverts r354263, because it uncovered a problem in handling of the
minidumps with conflicting UUIDs. If a minidump contains two files with
the same UUID, we will not create to placeholder modules for them, but
instead reuse the first one for the second instance. This creates a
problem because these modules have their load address hardcoded in them
(and I've added an assert to verify that).
Technically this is not a problem with this patch, as the same issue
existed in the previous implementation, but it did not have the assert
which would diagnose that. Nonetheless, I am reverting this until I
figure out what's the best course of action in this situation.

This re-commits r353677, which was reverted due to test failures on the
windows bot. The issue there was that ObjectFilePECOFF vended its base
address through the incorrect interface. SymbolFilePDB depended on that,
which lead to assertion failures when SymbolFilePDB was attempting to
use the placeholder object files as a base. This has been fixed in
r354258
It also fixes one small problem in the original patch. The issue was that the
Module class would attempt to overwrite the object file we created in
CreateModuleFromObjectFile if the file corresponding to the placeholder object
file happened to exist (but we have already disqualified it due to UUID
mismatch. The fix is simple -- we set the m_did_load_objfile flag to properly
record the fact that we have already created an object file for the module.
The original commit message was:

Module::CreateModuleFromObjectFile functon to set the module's FileSpec
in addition to it's architecture. This wasn't needed for ObjectFileJIT
(the other user of CreateModuleFromObjectFile), but it shouldn't hurt it
either, and the change seems like a straightforward extension of this
function.

Host had a function to get the UnixSignals instance corresponding
to the current host architecture. This means that Host had to
include a file from Target. To break this dependency, just make
this a static function directly in UnixSignals. We already have
the function UnixSignals::Create(ArchSpec) anyway, so we just
need to have UnixSignals::CreateForHost() which determines which
value to pass for the ArchSpec.
The goal here is to eventually break the Host->Target->Host
circular dependency.

I reduced the alignment of this struct in r342029 to avoid compiler
warnings about under-aligned allocations, but it turns out that this
still causes problems with some compilers (see r353778). As I hinted in
r342029, I don't believe any special aligment is necessary here (the
only reason for that would be if we used some aligned SSE instructions to
access this buffer, but I don't see any reason why we should do that),
so here I go all the way, and remove the alignment requirements (except
the ones naturally imposed by basic types) altogether.

The `ap` suffix is a remnant of lldb's former use of auto pointers,
before they got deprecated. Although all their uses were replaced by
unique pointers, some variables still carried the suffix.
In r353795 I removed another auto_ptr remnant, namely redundant calls to
::get for unique_pointers. Jim justly noted that this is a good
opportunity to clean up the variable names as well.
I went over all the changes to ensure my find-and-replace didn't have
any undesired side-effects. I hope I didn't miss any, but if you end up
at this commit doing a git blame on a weirdly named variable, please
know that the change was unintentional.

launch, and so they are naturally used by the launching code in the Host
module. Previously they were present in Target because that is the most

The field `m_decompression_scratch_type` is only used when `HAVE_LIBCOMPRESSION` is
defined, which caused a warning which I fixed in rLLDB350675 by just marking the variable as always used.
This patch fixes this in a better way by only defining the variable (and the related `m_decompression_scratch`
variable) when `HAVE_LIBCOMPRESSION` is defined. This also required changing the way we handle
`HAVE_LIBCOMPRESSION` works, as this was previously always defined on macOS within the source file
but not in the header. Now it's always defined from within our config header when CMake defines it or when
we are on macOS.
The field initialization was moved to the header to prevent that we have `#ifdef` within our initializer list.

In the original reproducer design, I expected providers to be more
dynamic than they turned out. For example, we don't have any instances
where one provider has multiple files. Additionally, I expected there to
be less locality between capture and replay, with the provider being
defined in one place and the replay code to live in another. Both
contributed to the design of the provider info.
This patch refactors the reproducer info to be something static. This
means less magic strings and better type checking. The new design still
allows for the capture and replay code to live in different places as
long as they both have access to the new statically defined info class.
I didn't completely get rid of the index, because it is useful for (1)
sanity checking and (2) knowing what files are used by the reproducer.

The target was being used in FinalizeFileActions to provide default
values for stdin/out/err. Also, most of the logic of this function was
very specific to how the lldb's Target class wants to launch processes,
so I, move it to Target::FinalizeFileActions, inverting the dependency.
The only piece of logic that was useful elsewhere (lldb-server) was the
part which sets up a pty and relevant file actions. I've kept this part
as ProcessLaunchInfo::SetUpPtyRedirection.
This makes ProcessLaunchInfo independent of any high-level lldb constructs.

Summary:
The main difference between the classes was supposed to be the fact that
one is backed by llvm::SmallVector, and the other by std::vector.
However, over the years, they have accumulated various other differences
too.
This essentially removes the std::vector version, as that is pretty much
identical to llvm::SmallVector<T, 0>, and combines their interfaces. It
does not attempt to do a more significant refactoring, even though there
is still a lot of duplication in this file, as it is hard to tell which
quirk of some API is depended on by somebody (and, a previous, more
ambitious attempt at this in D16769 has failed).
I also add some tests, including one which demonstrates one of the
quirks/bugs of the API I have noticed in the process.

Each process plug-in can create its own custom commands. I figured it would be nice to be able to dump things from the minidump file from the lldb command line, so I added the start of the some custom commands.
Currently you can dump:
minidump stream directory
all linux specifc streams, most of which are strings
each linux stream individually if desired, or all with --linux
The idea is we can expand the command set to dump more things, search for data in the core file, and much more. This patch gets us started.

Breakpad creates minidump files that sometimes have:
- linux maps textual content
- no MemoryInfoList
Right now unless the file has a MemoryInfoList we get no region information.
This patch:
- reads and caches the memory region info one time and sorts it for easy subsequent access
- get the region info from the best source in this order:
- linux maps info (if available)
- MemoryInfoList (if available)
- MemoryList or Memory64List
- returns memory region info for the gaps between regions (before the first and after the last)

The MinidumpParser::GetFilteredModuleList() code was attempting to iterate through the entire module list and if it found more than one entry for a given module name, it wanted to pick the MinidumpModule with the lowest address. A bug existed where it wasn't doing that due to "exists" variable being inverted. "exists" was set to true if it was inserted, not if it existed. Furthermore, the order of the modules would be modified by sorting all modules from low address to high address (using MinidumpModule::base_of_image). This fix also maintains the original order which means your executable is at index 0 as intended instead of some random shared library.
Tests were added to ensure this functionality doesn't regress.

Instead of GetProgramHeaderCount+GetProgramHeaderByIndex, expose an
ArrayRef of all program headers, to enable range-based iteration.
Instead of GetSegmentDataByIndex, expose GetSegmentData, taking a
program header (reference).
This makes the code simpler by enabling range-based loops and also
allowed to remove some null checks, as it became locally obvious that
some pointers can never be null.

When I landed the initial reproducer framework I knew there were some
things that needed improvement. Rather than bundling it with a patch
that adds more functionality I split it off into this patch. I also
think the API is stable enough to add unit testing, which is included in
this patch as well.
Other improvements include:
- Refactor how we initialize the loader and generator.
- Improve naming consistency: capture and replay seems the least ambiguous.
- Index providers by name and make sure there's only one of each.
- Add convenience methods for creating and accessing providers.

qWatchpointSupportInfo packet correctly.
In GDBRemoteCommunicationClient::GetWatchpointSupportInfo,
if the response to qWatchpointSupportInfo does not
include the 'num' field, then we did not get an answer
we understood, mark this target as not supporting that
packet.
In Target.cpp, rename the very confusingly named
CheckIfWatchpointsExhausted to CheckIfWatchpointsSupported,
and check the error status returned by
Process::GetWatchpointSupportInfo. If we cannot determine
what the number of supported watchpoints are, assume that
they will work. We'll handle the failure
later when we try to create/enable the watchpoint if the
Z2 packet isn't supported.
Add a gdb_remote_client test case.

Summary:
A fairly simple operation as setting a breakpoint (writing a breakpoint
opcode) at a given address was going through three classes:
NativeProcessProtocol which called NativeBreakpointList, which then
called SoftwareBrekpoint, only to end up again in NativeProcessProtocol
to do the actual writing itself. This is unnecessarily complex and can
be simplified by moving all of the logic into NativeProcessProtocol
class itself, removing a lot of boilerplate.
One of the reeasons for this complexity was that (it seems)
NativeBreakpointList class was meant to hold both software and hardware
breakpoints. However, that never materialized, and hardware breakpoints
are stored in a separate map holding only hardware breakpoints.
Essentially, this patch makes software breakpoints follow that approach
by replacing the heavy SoftwareBraekpoint with a light struct of the
same name, which holds only the data necessary to describe one
breakpoint. The rest of the logic is in the main class. As, at the
lldb-server level, handling software and hardware breakpoints is very
different, this seems like a reasonable state of things.

This patch extends the FileSystem class with a bunch of functions that
are currently implemented as methods of the FileSpec class. These
methods will be removed in future commits and replaced by calls to the
file system.
The new functions are operated in terms of the virtual file system which
was recently moved from clang into LLVM so it could be reused in lldb.
Because the VFS is stateful, we turned the FileSystem class into a

This patch fixes issues with a stack realignment.
MSVC maintains two frame pointers (`ebx` and `ebp`) for a realigned stack - one
is used for access to function parameters, while another is used for access to
locals. To support this the patch:
- adds an alternative frame pointer (`ebx`);
- considers stack realignment instructions (e.g. `and esp, -32`);
- along with CFA (Canonical Frame Address) which point to the position next to
the saved return address (or to the first parameter on the stack) introduces
AFA (Aligned Frame Address) which points to the position of the stack pointer
right after realignment. AFA is used for access to registers saved after the
realignment (see the test);

When we get the `resolve_scope` parameter from the SB API, it's a
`uint32_t`. We then pass it through all of LLDB this way, as a uint32.
This is unfortunate, because it means the user of an API never actually
knows what they're dealing with. We can call it something like
`resolve_scope` and have comments saying "this is a value from the
`SymbolContextItem` enumeration, but it makes more sense to just have it
actually *be* the correct type in the actual C++ type system to begin
with. This way the person reading the code just knows what it is.
The reason to use integers instead of enumerations for flags is because
when you do bitwise operations on enumerations they get promoted to
integers, so it makes it tedious to constantly be casting them back
to the enumeration types, so I've introduced a macro to make this
happen magically. By writing LLDB_MARK_AS_BITMASK_ENUM after defining
an enumeration, it will define overloaded operators so that the
returned type will be the original enum. This should address all
the mechanical issues surrounding using rich enum types directly.
This way, we get a better debugger experience, and new users to
the codebase can get more easily acquainted with the codebase because
their IDE features can help them understand what the types mean.

Add support in ProcessGDBRemote::GetGDBServerRegisterInfo
for recognizing a generic "arm" architecture that will be used if
nothing better is available so that we don't ignore the register
definitions if we didn't already have an architecture set.
Also in ProcessGDBRemote::DoConnectRemote don't set the target
arch unless we have a valid architecture to set it to.
Platform::ConnectProcess will try to get the current target's
architecture, or the default architecture, when creating the
target for the connection to be attempted. If lldb was started
with a target binary, we want to create this target with that
architecture in case the remote gdb stub doesn't supply a
qHostInfo arch.
Add logging to Target::MergeArchitecture.

If the process exits before any initial stop then notify the debugger
of the error otherwise WaitForDebuggerConnection() will be blocked.
An example of this issue is when a process fails to load a dependent DLL.
In addition to the fix, remove a duplicate call to FreeProcessHandles() in

for all thread IDs.

Summary:
This function encodes the knowledge of whether the PC points to the
breakpoint instruction of the one following it after the breakpoint is
"hit". This behavior mainly(*) depends on the architecture and not on the
OS, so it makes sense for it to be implemented in the base class, where
it can be shared between different implementations (Linux and NetBSD
atm).
(*) It is possible for an OS to expose a different API, perhaps by doing
some fixups in the kernel. In this case, the implementation can override
this function to implement custom behavior.

One of the conclusions of the discussion on D49740 was that SafeMachO is better
off in the Host module (as that's the only place which should include

file.

The warning is about heap-allocating a struct with bigger alignment
requirements than the standard heap allocator provides.
AFAICT, all uses of the XSAVE struct are already heap-allocated, so this
high alignment does not actually have any effect and removing it should
be NFC.
I have also done some digging in the commit history. This alignment
requirement was since the XSAVE struct was introduced in r180572 when
adding AVX register support for linux. It does not mention the alignment
specifically, so I am guessing this was just put there because the
corresponging XSAVE cpu instruction requires its buffer to be 64-byte
aligned. However, LLDB will not be normally reading this struct via the
XSAVE instruction directly. Instead we will ask the kernel to copy the
buffer saved when suspeding the inferior. This should not require such
strict alignment (in fact, linux kernel will happily do this for any
alignment).

This recommits r341487, which was reverted due to failing tests with
clang. It turned out I had incorrectly expected that the literal arrays
passed to ArrayRef constructor will have static (permanent) storage.
This was only the case with gcc, while clang was constructing them on
stack, leading to dangling pointers when the function returns.
The fix is to explicitly assign static storage duration to the opcode
arrays.

Host info computation can involve DNS traffic (to compute the remote
host name). On very unreliable networks (such as free WiFi on trains),
this can take several seconds to complete or timeout. Increase the

Summary:
This class was initially in Host because its implementation used to be
very OS-specific. However, with C++11, it has become a very simple
std::condition_variable wrapper, with no host-specific code.
It is also a general purpose utility class, so it makes sense for it to
live in a place where it can be used by everyone.
This has no effect on the layering right now, but it enables me to later
move the Listener+Broadcaster+Event combo to a lower layer, which is
important, as these are used in a lot of places (notably for launching a
process in Host code).

Corrupted minidumps was leading to unpredictable behavior.
This change adds explicit consistency checks for the minidump early on. The
checks are not comprehensive but they should catch obvious structural violations:
streams with type == 0
duplicate streams (same type)
overlapping streams
truncated minidumps
Another early check is to make sure we actually support the minidump architecture
instead of crashing at a random place deep inside LLDB.

Summary:
During the previous attempt to generalize the UUID class, it was
suggested that we represent invalid UUIDs as length zero (previously, we
used an all-zero UUID for that). This meant that some valid build-ids
could not be represented (it's possible however unlikely that a checksum of
some file would be zero) and complicated adding support for variable
length build-ids (should a 16-byte empty UUID compare equal to a 20-byte
empty UUID?).
This patch resolves these issues by introducing a canonical
representation for an invalid UUID. The slight complication here is that
some clients (MachO) actually use the all-zero notation to mean "no UUID
has been set". To keep this use case working (while making it very
explicit about which construction semantices are wanted), replaced the
UUID constructors and the SetBytes functions with named factory methods.
- "fromData" creates a UUID from the given data, and it treats all bytes
equally.
- "fromOptionalData" first checks the data contents - if all bytes are
zero, it treats this as an invalid/empty UUID.

Summary:
Instead of a function taking an enum value determining which path to
return, we now have a suite of functions, each returning a single path
kind. This makes it easy to move the python-path function into a
specific plugin in a follow-up commit.
All the users of GetLLDBPath were converted to call specific functions

conversion was simple. The only exception was SBHostOS, which I've

SetFile has an optional style argument which defaulted to the native
style. This patch makes that argument mandatory so clients of the
FileSpec class are forced to think about the correct syntax.
At the same time this introduces a (protected) convenience method to
update the file from within the FileSpec class that keeps the current
style.
These two changes together prevent a potential pitfall where the style
might be forgotten, leading to the path being updated and the style
unintentionally being changed to the host style.

Summary:
test_set_working_dir was testing two scenario: failure to set the working dir because of a non existent directory and succeeding to set the working directory. Since the negative case fails on both Linux and Windows, the positive case was never tested. I split the test into two which allows us to always run both the negative and positive cases. The positive case now succeeds on Linux and the negative case still fails.
During the investigation, it turned out that lldbtest.py will try to execute a process launch command up to 3 times if the command failed. This means that we could be covering up intermittent failures by running any test that does process launch multiple times without ever realizing it. I've changed the counter to 1 (though it can still be overwritten with the environment variable).
This change also fixes both the positive and negative cases on Windows. There were a few issues:
1) In ProcessLauncherWindows::LaunchProcess, the error was not retrieved until CloseHandle was possibly called. Since CloseHandle is also a system API, its success would overwrite any existing error that could be retrieved using GetLastError. So by the time the error was retrieved, it was now a success.
2) In DebuggerThread::StopDebugging TerminateProcess was called on the process handle regardless of whether it was a valid handle. This was causing the process to crash when the handle was LLDB_INVALID_PROCESS (0xFFFFFFFF).
3) In ProcessWindows::DoLaunch we need to check that the working directory exists before launching the process to have the same behavior as other platforms which first check the directory and then launch process. This way we also control the exact error string.

Summary:
Occasionally, when launching a process in lldb (especially on windows, but not limited to), lldb will hang before the process is launched and it will never recover. This happens because the timing of the processing of the state changes can be slightly different. The state changes that are issued are:
1) SetPublicState(eStateLaunching)
2) SetPrivateState(eStateLaunching)
3) SetPublicState(eStateStopped)
4) SetPrivateState(eStateStopped)
What we expect to see is:
public state: launching -> launching -> stopped
private state: launching -> stopped
What we see is:
public state: launching -> stopped -> launching
private state: launching -> stopped
The second launching change to the public state is issued when WaitForProcessStopPrivate calls HandlePrivateEvent on the event which was created when the private state was set to launching. HandlePrivateEvent has logic to determine whether to broadcase the event and a launching event is *always* broadcast. At the same time, when the stopped event is processed by WaitForProcessStopPrivate next, the function exists and that event is never broadcast, so the public state remains as launching.
HandlePrivateEvent does two things: determine whether there's a next action as well as determine whether to broadcast the event that was processed. There's only ever a next action set if we are trying to attach to a process, but WaitForProcessStopPrivate is only ever called when we are launching a process or connecting remotely, so the first part of HandlePrivateEvent (handling the next action) is irrelevant for WaitForProcessStopPrivate. As far as broadcasting the event is concerned, since we are handling state changes that already occurred to the public state (and are now duplicated in the private state), I believe the broadcast step is unnecessary also (and in fact, it causes the hang).
This change removes the call to HandlePrivateEvent from inside WaitForProcessStopPrivate.

that was necessary was to revitalize the hack in PlatformDarwinKernel

It turns out these class still contained some os-specific functionality,
but I did not notice that originally, as it was #ifdef arm(64). This
adds back the __APPLE__ condition to these particular functions,
unbreaking arm builds on other OSs.

Summary:
Before this patch we were unable to write cross-platform MachO tests
because the parsing code did not compile on other platforms. The reason
for that was that ObjectFileMachO depended on
RegisterContextDarwin_arm(64)? (presumably for core file parsing) and
the two Register Context classes uses constants from the system headers
(KERN_SUCCESS, KERN_INVALID_ARGUMENT).
As far as I can tell, these two files don't actually interact with the
darwin kernel -- they are used only in ObjectFileMachO and MacOSX-Kernel
process plugin (even though it has "kernel" in the name, this one
communicates with it via network packets and not syscalls). For the time
being I have created OS-independent definitions of these constants and
made the register context classes use those. Long term, the error
handling in these classes should be probably changed to use more
standard mechanisms such as Status or Error classes.
This is the only change necessary (apart from build system glue) to make
ObjectFileMachO work on other platforms. To demonstrate that, I remove
REQUIRES:darwin from our (only) cross-platform mach-o test.

Summary: LLDB reads wrong registers on 64bit Windows because RegisterContextWindows_x64::GetRegisterInfoAtIndex returns wrong reference.
I encountered broken backtrace when the program stopped at function which does not have prologue code, such as compiled with '-fomit-frame-pointer'.
In this situation, CFA is equal to rsp but LLDB reads r9.
RegisterContextWindows_x64::GetRegisterInfoAtIndex depends the order of lldb_XXX_x86_64 values, but RegisterIndex/g_register_infos/g_gpr_reg_indices does not follow order.

Summary: The function ResumeThread on Windows returns a DWORD which is an unsigned int. In TargetThreadWindows::DoResume, there's code that determines how many times to call ResumeThread based on whether the return value is greater than 0. Since the function returns -1 (as an unsigned int) on failure, this was getting stuck in an infinite loop if ResumeThread failed for any reason. The correct thing to do is check whether the return value is -1 and then return the appropriate error instead of ignoring the return value.

Summary:
The comments on this class were out of date with the implementation, and
the implementation itself was inconsistent with our usage of the Timeout
class (I started converting everything to use this class back in D27136,
but I missed this one). I avoid duplicating the waiting logic by
introducing a templated WaitFor function, and make other functions
delegate to that. This function can be also used as a replacement for
the unused WaitForBitToBeSet functions I removed, if it turns out to be
necessary.
As this changes the meaning of a "zero" timeout, I tracked down all the
callers of these functions and updated them accordingly. Propagating the
changes to all the callers of RunShellCommand was a bit too much for
this patch, so I stopped there and will continue that in a follow-up
patch.
I also add some basic unittests for the functions I modified.

The function can only return in one of two ways: the Predicate value is

This change adds support for two types of Minidump CodeView records:

Previously, an attempt to read an unreadable address reported zeros.

It was failing because the modules names were coming out as
C:\Windows\System32/MSVCP120D.dll (last separator is a forward slash) on
windows.
There are two issues at play here:
- the first problem is that the paths in minidump were being parsed as a
host path. This meant that on posix systems the whole path was
interpreted as a file name.
- on windows the path was split into a directory-filename pair
correctly, but then when it was reconsituted, the last separator ended
up being a forward slash because SBFileSpec.fullpath was joining them
with '/' unconditionally.
I fix the first issue by parsing the minidump paths according to the
path syntax of the host which produced the dump, which should make the
test behavior on posix&windows identical. The last path will still be a
forward slash because of the second issue. We should probably fix the
"fullpath" property to do something smarter in the future.

Normally, LLDB is creating a high-fidelity representation of a live
process, including a list of modules and sections, with the
associated memory address ranges. In order to build the module and
section map LLDB tries to locate the local module image (object file)
and will parse it.
This does not work for postmortem debugging scenarios where the crash
dump (minidump in this case) was captured on a different machine.
Fortunately the minidump format encodes enough information about
each module's memory range to allow us to create placeholder modules.
This enables most LLDB functionality involving address-to-module
translations.
Also, we may want to completly disable the search for matching
local object files if we load minidumps unless we can prove that the
local image matches the one from the crash origin.

Summary:
The Args class is used in plenty of places besides the command
interpreter (e.g., anything requiring an argc+argv combo, such as when
launching a process), so it needs to be in a lower layer. Now that the
class has no external dependencies, it can be moved down to the Utility
module.
This removes the last (direct) dependency from the Host module to
Interpreter, so I remove the Interpreter module from Host's dependency
list.

There are plenty of ways attaching can go wrong. Having the server
report the exact error means we can give better feedback to the user.
(This patch does not do the second part, it only makes sure the
information is sent from the server.)
Triggering all possible error conditions in a test would prove
challenging, but there is one error that is very easy to reproduce
(attempting to attach while debugging), so I write a test based on that.
The test immediately exposed a bug where the m_send_error_strings field
was being used uninitialized (so it was sometimes true from the get-go),
so I fix that as well.

Summary:
We've had a mismatch in the checksum computation between the sender and
receiver. The sender computed the payload checksum using the wire
encoding of the packet, while the receiver did this after expanding
un-escaping and expanding run-length-encoded sequences. This resulted in
communication breakdown if packets using these feature were sent in the
ack mode.
Normally, this did not cause any issues since the only packet we send in
the ack-mode is the QStartNoAckMode packet, but I ran into this when
debugging the lldb-server tests which (for better or worse) don't use
this mode.
According to the gdb-remote documentation "The two-digit checksum is computed as
the modulo 256 sum of all characters between the leading ‘$’ and the
trailing ‘#’", it seems that our sender is doing the right thing here.
Therefore, I fix the receiver the match the sender behavior and add a
test.
With this bug fixed, we can see that lldb-server is sending a stop-reply
after receiving the "k" in the same way as debugserver does (but we
weren't detecting this because at that point the connection was dead
already). I fix that expectation as well.

ELF physical addresses only for loading objects into the target (and the
rest of the module load address logic still uses virtual addresses).

- Update ObjectFileELF to set load addresses using physical addresses. A typical case may be a data section with a physical address in ROM and a virtual address in RAM, which should be loaded to the ROM address.
- Add support for querying the target's qXfer:memory-map, which contains information about flash memory regions, leveraging MemoryRegionInfo data structures with minor modifications
- Update ProcessGDBRemote to use vFlash commands in DoWriteMemory when the target address is in a flash region

Removing the template arguments and most of the mutating methods from
CleanUp makes it easier to understand and reuse.
In its present state, CleanUp would be too cumbersome to adapt to cases
where multiple objects need to be released. Take for example this change

the NativeProcessNetBSD::Factory::Launch
function because it triggers a NULL pointer
deference.
The generic code for launching a process in:
GDBRemoteCommunicationServerLLGS::LaunchProcess
sets the m_debugged_process_up pointer after
a successful call to m_process_factory.Launch().
If we attempt to call process_up->SetState()
inside a platform specific Launch function we
end up dereferencing a NULL pointer in
NativeProcessProtocol::GetCurrentThreadID().
Use the proper call process_up->SetState(,false)
that sets notify_delegates to false.

Summary:
The ObjectFile class was used to determine the architecture of a running
process by inspecting it's main executable. There were two issues with
this:
- it's in the wrong layer
- the call can be very expensive (it can end up computing the crc of the
whole file).
Since the process is running on the host, ideally we would be able to
just query the data straight from the OS like darwin does, but there
doesn't seem to be a reasonable way to do that. So, this fixes the
layering issue by using the llvm object library to inspect the file.
Since we know the process is already running on the host, we just need
to peek at a few bytes of the elf header to determine whether it's 32-
or 64-bit (which should make this faster as well).
Pretty much the same logic was implemented in
NativeProcessProtocol::ResolveProcessArchitecture, so I delete this
logic and replace calls with GetProcessInfo.

Summary:
Gdb servers like openocd may send many $O reply packets for the client to output during a qRcmd command sequence. Currently, lldb interprets the first O packet as an unexpected response. Besides generating no output, this causes lldb to get out of sync with future commands because it continues reading O packets from the first command as response to subsequent commands.
This patch handles any O packets during an qRcmd, treating the first non-O packet as the true response.

Summary:
There was some confusion in the code about how to represent process
environment. Most of the code (ab)used the Args class for this purpose,
but some of it used a more basic StringList class instead. In either
case, the fact that the underlying abstraction did not provide primitive
operations for the typical environment operations meant that even a
simple operation like checking for an environment variable value was
several lines of code.
This patch adds a separate Environment class, which is essentialy a
llvm::StringMap<std::string> in disguise. To standard StringMap
functionality, it adds a couple of new functions, which are specific to
the environment use case:
- (most important) envp conversion for passing into execve() and likes.
Instead of trying to maintain a constantly up-to-date envp view, it
provides a function which creates a envp view on demand, with the
expectation that this will be called as the very last thing before
handing the value to the system function.
- insert(StringRef KeyEqValue) - splits KeyEqValue into (key, value)
pair and inserts it into the environment map.
- compose(value_type KeyValue) - takes a map entry and converts in back
into "KEY=VALUE" representation.
With this interface most of the environment-manipulating code becomes
one-liners. The only tricky part was maintaining compatibility in
SBLaunchInfo, which expects that the environment entries are accessible
by index and that the returned const char* is backed by the launch info
object (random access into maps is hard and the map stores the entry in
a deconstructed form, so we cannot just return a .c_str() value). To
solve this, I have the SBLaunchInfo convert the environment into the
"envp" form, and use it to answer the environment queries. Extra code is
added to make sure the envp version is always in sync.
(This also improves the layering situation as Args was in the Interpreter module
whereas Environment is in Utility.)

The recent UUID cleanups exposed a bug in the parsing code for the
jModulesInfo response, which was passing wrong value for the second
argument to UUID::SetFromStringRef (it passed the length of the string,
whereas the correct value should be the number of decoded bytes we
expect to receive).
This was not picked up by tests, because they test with 16-byte uuids,
for which the function happens to do the right thing even if the length
does not match (if the length does not match, the function does not
update m_num_uuid_bytes member, but that member is already 16 to begin
with).
I fix that and add a test with 20-byte uuid to catch if this regresses.
I have also added more safeguards into the parsing code to fail if we
cannot parse the entire uuid field we recieve. While testing the latter
part, I noticed that the "negative" jModulesInfo tests were succeeding
because we were sending malformed json (and not because the json
contents was invalid), so I make those tests a bit more robuts as well.

Summary:
We were failing to propagate the environment when lldb-server was
started with a pre-loaded process
(e.g.: lldb-server gdbserver -- inferior --inferior_args)
This patch makes sure the environment is propagated. Instead of adding a
new GDBRemoteCommunicationServerLLGS::SetLaunchEnvironment function to
complement SetLaunchArgs and SetLaunchFlags, I replace these with a
more generic SetLaunchInfo, which can be used to set any launch-related
property.
The accompanying test also verifies that the server correctly terminates
the connection after sending the exit packet (specifically, that it does
not send the exit packet twice).

Summary:
The x86 FPR struct was defined as a struct containing a union between
two members: XSAVE and FXSAVE. This patch makes FPR a union directly to
remove one layer of indirection when trying to access the members.
The initial layout of these two structs is identical, which is
recognised by the fact that XSAVE has FXSAVE as its first member, so we
also considered removing one more layer and leave FPR identical to XSAVE
struct, but stopped short of doing that, as the FPR may be used to store
different layouts in the future (e.g., ones generated by the FSAVE
instruction).

Summary:
lldb-server was sending the "exit" packet (W??) twice. This happened
because it was handling both the pre-exit (PTRACE_EVENT_EXIT) and
post-exit (WIFEXITED) as exit events. We had some code which was trying
to detect when we've already sent the exit packet, but this stopped
working quite a while ago.
This never really caused any problems in practice because the client
automatically closes the connection after receiving the first packet, so
the only effect of this was some warning messages about extra packets
from the lldb-server test suite, which were ignored because they didn't
fail the test.
The new test suite will be stricter about this, so I fix this issue
ignoring the first event. I think this is the correct behavior, as the
inferior is not really dead at that point, so it's premature to send the
exit packet.
There isn't an actual test yet which would verify the exit behavior, but
in my next patch I will add a test which will also test this
functionality.

Null-checking functions which aren't marked weak_import is a no-op
(the compiler rewrites the check to 'true'), regardless of whether a
library providing its definition is weak-linked. If the deployment
target is greater than the minimum requirement, the availability markup
on APIs does not lower to weak_import.

struct iovec is used as an interface to system (posix) api's. As such,
we shouldn't be using it in os-independent code, and we shouldn't be
defining our own iovec replacements.
Fortunately, its usage was not very widespread, so the removal was very
easy -- I simply moved a couple declarations into os-specific code.

In https://reviews.llvm.org/D39681, we started using a map instead
passing a long list of register sets to the ppc64le register context.
However, existing register contexts were still using the old method.
This converts the remaining register contexts to use this approach.
While doing that, I've had to modify the approach a bit:
- the general purpose register set is still kept as a separate field,
because this one is always present, and it's parsing is somewhat
different than that of other register sets.
- since the same register sets have different IDs on different operating
systems, but we use the same register context class to represent
different register sets, I've needed to add a layer of indirection to
translate os-specific constants (e.g. NETBSD::NT_AMD64_FPREGS) into more
generic terms (e.g. floating point register set).
While slightly more complicated, this setup allows for better separation
of concerns. The parsing code in ProcessElfCore can focus on parsing
OS-specific core file notes, and can completely ignore
architecture-specific register sets (by just storing any unrecognised
notes in a map). These notes will then be passed on to the
architecture-specific register context, which can just deal with
architecture specifics, because the OS-specific note types are hidden in
a register set description map.
This way, adding an register set, which is already supported on other
OSes, to a new OS, should in most cases be as simple as adding a new
entry into the register set description map.

Summary:
New linux kernels (on systems that support the XSAVES instruction) will
not update the inferior registers unless the corresponding flag in the
XSAVE header is set. Normally this flag will be set in our image of the
XSAVE area (since we obtained it from the kernel), but if the inferior
has never used the corresponding register set, the respective flag can
be clear.
This fixes the issue by making sure we explicitly set the flags
corresponding to the registers we modify. I don't try to precisely match
the flags to set on each write, as the rules could get quite complicated
-- I use a simpler over-approximation instead.
This was already caught by test_fp_register_write, but that was only
because the code that ran before main() did not use some of the register
sets. Since nothing in this test relies on being stopped in main(), I
modify the test to stop at the entry point instead, so we can be sure
the inferior did not have a chance to access these registers.

The rationale here is that ArchSpec is used throughout the codebase,
including in places which should not depend on the rest of the code in
the Core module.
This commit touches many files, but most of it is just renaming of
#include lines. In a couple of cases, I removed the #include ArchSpec
line altogether, as the file was not using it. In one or two places,
this necessitated adding other #includes like lldb-private-defines.h.

Summary:
This commit removes the concrete_frame_idx member from
NativeRegisterContext and related functions, which was always set to
zero and never used.
I also change the native thread class to store a NativeRegisterContext
as a unique_ptr (documenting the ownership) and make sure it is always
initialized (most of the code was already blindly dereferencing the
register context pointer, assuming it would always be present -- this
makes its treatment consistent).

Summary:
These tests used to log the error message and return plain bool mainly
because at the time they we written, we did not have a nice way to
assert on llvm::Error values. That is no longer true, so replace this
pattern with a more idiomatic approach.
As a part of this patch, I also move the formatting of
GDBRemoteCommunication::PacketResult values out of the test code, as
that can be useful elsewhere.

Summary:
Posix core files sometime don't contain enough information to correctly
detect the OS. If that is the case we should use the OS from the target
instead as it will contain usable information in more cases and if the
target and the core contain different OS-es then we are already in a
pretty bad state so moving from an unknown OS to a known (but possibly
incorrect) OS will do no harm.
We already had similar code in place for MIPS. This change tries to make
it more generic by using ArchSpec::MergeFrom and extends it to all
architectures but some MIPS specific issue prevent us from getting rid
of special casing MIPS.

Summary:
ArchSpec::SetTriple was taking a Platform as an argument, and used it to
fill in missing pieces of the specified triple. I invert the dependency
by moving this code to other classes. For this purpose, I've created
three new functions.
- HostInfo::GetAugmentedArchSpec: fills in the triple using the host
platform (this used to be implemented by passing a null platform
pointer). By putting this code in the Host module, we can provide a
way to anyone who does not have a platform instance (lldb-server) an
easy way to get Host data.
- Platform::GetAugmentedArchSpec: if you have a platform instance, you
can call this to let it fill in the triple.
- static Platform::GetAugmentedArchSpec: implements the "if platform ==
0 then use_host() else use_platform()" part.

Summary:
The NativeThread class is useless without the containing process (and in
some places it is already assuming the process is always around). This
makes it clear that the NativeProcessProtocol is the object owning the
threads, and makes the destruction order deterministic (first threads,
then process). The NativeProcess is the only thing holding a thread
unique_ptr, and methods that used to hand out thread shared pointers now
return raw pointers or references.

The main change is to avoid setting the process state as running when
debugging core/minidumps (details in the bug). Also included a few small,
related fixes around how the errors propagate in this case.
Fixed the FreeBSD/Windows break: the intention was to keep
Process::WillResume() and Process::DoResume() "in-sync", but this had the
unfortunate consequence of breaking Process sub-classes which don't override
WillResume().
The safer approach is to keep Process::WillResume() untouched and only
override it in the minidump and core implementations.

On Linux lldb-server sends an OK response to qfThreadInfo if no process
is started yet. I don't know why would LLDB issue a qfThreadInfo packet
before starting a process but creating a fake thread ID in case of an

OpenOCD sends register classes as two separate <feature> nodes, fixed parser to process both of them.
OpenOCD returns "l" in response to "qfThreadInfo", so IsUnsupportedResponse() was false and we were ending up without any threads in the process. I think it's reasonable to assume that there's always at least one thread.

Even though the content of the minidump does not change in a debugging session,
frames can't be indiscriminately be cached since modules and symbols can be
explicitly added after the minidump is loaded.

Summary:
The usage of shared_from_this forces us to separate construction and
initialization phases, because shared_from_this() is not available in
the constructor (or destructor). The shared semantics are not necessary,
as we always have a clear owner of the native process class
(GDBRemoteCommunicationServerLLDB object). Even if we need shared
semantics in the future (which I think we should strongly avoid),
reverting this will not be necessary -- the owners can still easily
store the native process object in a shared pointer if they really want
to -- this just prevents the knowledge of that from leaking into the
class implementation.
After this a NativeThread object will hold a reference to the parent
process (instead of a weak_ptr) -- having a process instance always
available allows us to simplify some logic in this class (some of it was
already simplified because we were asserting that the process is
available, but this makes it obvious).

In NativeProcessLinux::MonitorSIGTRAP we were asserting that the si_code
value is one of the codes we know about. However, that list was very
incomplete -- for example, we were not handling SI_TKILL/SI_USER,
generated by raise(SIGTRAP). A cursory examination show there are at
least a dozen codes like these that an app can generate, and more can be
added at any point.
So, instead of trying to play catchup, I change the default behavior to
treat an unknown si_code like an ordinary signal. The only reason we
needed to inspect si_code in the first place is because
watchpoint/breakpoints are notified as SIGTRAP, but we already know
about those, and us starting to use a new debug event is far less likely
than somebody introducing a new non-debug event.
I add a test case to TestRaise to verify we are handling raise(SIGTRAP)
in an application properly.

Summary:
This replaces the static functions used for creating
NativeProcessProtocol instances with a factory pattern, and modernizes
the interface of the new class in the process -- I use llvm::Expected
instead of the Status+value combo. I also move some of the common code
(like the Delegate registration into the base class). The new
arrangement has multiple benefits:
- it removes the NativeProcess*** dependency from Process/gdb-remote
(which for example means that liblldb no longer pulls in this code).
- it enables unit testing of the GDBRemoteCommunicationServerLLGS class
(by providing a mock Native Process).
- serves as another example on how to use the llvm::Expected class (I
couldn't get rid of the Initialize-type functions completely here
because of the use of shared_from_this, but that's the next thing on
my list here)
Tests still pass on Linux and I've made sure NetBSD compiles after this.

Instead of passing it in as a one-off argument to those
methods, this patch puts it in the base class and the methods
can retrieve if it needed.
Note that ABI's are sometimes built without a Process

able to reconsistitue into a strong pointer.

Summary:
When a call instruction is the last instruction in a function, the
backtrace PC will point past the end of the function. We already had
special code to handle that, but we did not handle the case where the PC
ends up outside of the bounds of the module containing the function,
which is a situation that occured in TestNoreturnUnwind on android for
some arch/compiler combinations.
I fix this by adding an argument to Address resolution code which states
that we are ok with addresses pointing to the end of a module/section to
resolve to that module/section.
I create a reproducible test case for this situation by hand-crafting an
executable which has a noreturn function at the end of a module.

manifested itself on 32-bit architectures.

In the absense of a more specific handler for TRAP_CAP (generated by
ENOTCAPABLE or ECAPMODE while in capability mode) treat it as a trace
trap. Obtained from FreeBSD r318884.
We should later add an option to have LLDB control the trapcap procctl
(as with ASLR), as well as report a specific stop reason. For now this
change eliminates an assertion failure from LLDB.

This renames the LLDB error class to Status, as discussed
on the lldb-dev mailing list.
A change of this magnitude cannot easily be done without
find and replace, but that has potential to catch unwanted
occurrences of common strings such as "Error". Every effort
was made to find all the obvious things such as the word "Error"
appearing in a string, etc, but it's possible there are still
some lingering occurences left around. Hopefully nothing too
serious.

lldb should use when given a corefile.
This uses an LC_NOTE "main bin spec" or an LC_NOTE "kern ver str"
if they are present in a Mach-O core file.
Core files may have multiple different binaries -- different kernels,
or a mix of user process and kernel binaries -- and it can be
difficult for lldb to detect the correct one to use simply by looking
at the pages of memory. These two new LC_NOTE load commands allow
for the correct binary to be recorded unambiguously.

because all the includes from Core to that project were dead
includes anyway. In places where some files in other projects
were only compiling due to a transitive include from another
header, fixups have been made so that those files also include
the header they need. Tested on Windows and Linux, and plan
to address failures on OSX and FreeBSD after watching the
bots.

This patch makes adjustments to header file includes in
lldbUtility based on recommendations by the iwyu tool
(include-what-you-use). The goal here is to make sure that
all files include the exact set of headers which are needed
for that file only, to eliminate cases of dead includes (e.g.
someone deleted some code but forgot to delete the header
includes that that code necessitated), and to eliminate the
case where header includes are picked up transitively.

Summary:
This aims to verify the validity of the response from the debugging
server in GDBRemoteCommunicationClient::GetMemoryRegionInfo. I was
working with ds2 (https://github.com/facebook/ds2) and encountered a bug
that caused the server's response to have a 'size' value of 0, which
caused lldb to behave incorrectly.

Summary:
This patch is a stripped down from features a NetBSD process
code (patch is kept under 2k LOC). This code has assumption that
there is only one thread within a debugged process. The only
debugger trap supported is software breakpoint (TRAP_BRKPT).
The generic platform code requires to add dummy function for
watchpoints etc. These functions are currently empty.
This code is not the final platform support as is and it's treated as
a base to extend, refactor and address issues afterwards.

- handle software breakpoints,
- correctly attach to a tracee,
- support NetBSD specific ptrace(2),
- monitor process termination,
- monitor SIGTRAP events,
- monitor SIGSTOP events,

Summary:
Add basic OpenBSD support. This is enough to be able to analyze core dumps for OpenBSD/amd64, OpenBSD/arm, OpenBSD/arm64 and OpenBSD/i386.
Note that part of the changes to source/Plugins/ObjectFile/ELF/ObjectFileELF.cpp fix a bug that probably affects other platforms as well. The GetProgramHeaderByIndex() interface use 1-based indices, but in some case when looping over the headers the, the loop starts at 0 and misses the last header. This caused problems on OpenBSD since OpenBSD core dumps have the PT_NOTE segment as the last program header.

There are only two users of NativeRegisterContextRegisterInfo,
and both are in process plugins. Moving this code from Host
to Plugins/Process/Utility thus makes sense, and as it is the
only dependency from Host -> PluginProcessUtility, it also
breaks this cycle, reducing LLDB's overall cycle count from
45 to 44.

Summary:
GetAuxvData was causing dependencies from host to target and linux
process modules. It also does not fit netbsd use case, as there we can
only read the auxiliary vector with ptrace, which is better done in the
process plugin, with the other ptrace calls.
I resolve these issues by moving the freebsd and linux versions into the
relevant process plugins. In case of linux, this required adding an
interface in NativeProcessProtocol. The empty definitions on other
platforms can simply be removed.
To get the code compiling I had to add ProcessGdbRemote -> ProcessLinux
dependency, which was not caught before because we depended on it
transitively.

Summary:
These classes existed only because of the GetName() static function,
which can be moved to a more natural place anyway. I move the linux
version to NativeProcessLinux (and get rid of ProcFileReader), the
freebsd version to ProcessFreeBSD (and fix a bug where it was using the
current process ID, instead of the inferior pid), and remove the NetBSD
version (which was probably incorrect anyway, as it assumes the current
process instead of the inferior.
I also add an llgs test to that verifies thread names are read
correctly.

Summary:
previously we switched to llvm streams for log output, this completes
the switch for the error streams.
I also clean up the includes and remove the unused argument from
DisableAllLogChannels().
This required adding a bit of boiler plate to convert the output in the
command interpreter, but that should go away when we switch command
results to use llvm streams as well.

If QPassSignals packaet is supported by lldb-server, lldb-client will
utilize it and ask the server to ignore signals that don't require stops
or notifications.
Such signals will be immediately re-injected into inferior to continue
normal execution.

this reverts r297116 because it breaks the unittests and
TestCompDirSymlink. The ModuleCache unit test is trivially fixable, but
the CompDirSymlink failure is a symptom of a deeper problem: llvm's stat
functionality is not a drop-in replacement for lldb's. The former is
based on stat(2) (which does symlink resolution), while the latter is
based on lstat(2) (which does not).
This also reverts subsequent build fixes (r297128, r297120, 297117) and
r297119 (Remove FileSpec dependency on FileSystem) which builds on top
of this.

This functionality is subsumed by DataBufferLLVM, which is
also more efficient since it will try to mmap. However, we
don't yet support mmaping writable private sections, and in
some cases we were using ReadFileContents and then modifying
the buffer. To address that I've added a flag to the
DataBufferLLVM methods that allow you to map privately, which
disables the mmaping path entirely. Eventually we should teach
DataBufferLLVM to use mmap with writable private, but that is
orthogonal to this effort.
