Chris Lattner 7c37b1cf51 The key of a StringMap can contain nul's in it, so having first() return
const char* doesn't make sense.  Have it return StringRef instead.

Evan Cheng c7ac690ba2 Unfortunately several files in MC are badly violating layering rule by using
TargetAsmInfo, which in turn pulls in TargetRegisterInfo, etc. :-( There are
other cases of violations, but this is probably the worst.

This patch is but one small step towards fixing this. 500 more steps to go. :-(

Jim Grosbach 602aa90ab8 Update MCParsedAsmOperand debug methods.
Update the debug output interface for MCParsedAsmOperand to have a print()
method which takes an output stream argument, an << operator which invokes
the print method using the given stream, and a dump() method which prints
the operand to the dbgs() stream. This makes the interface more consistent
with the rest of LLVM, and more convenient to use at the debugger command
line.

Evan Cheng c5e6d2f519 - Eliminate MCCodeEmitter's dependency on TargetMachine. It now uses MCInstrInfo
and MCSubtargetInfo.
- Added methods to update subtarget features (used when targets automatically
  detect subtarget features or switch modes).
- Teach X86Subtarget to update MCSubtargetInfo features bits since the
  MCSubtargetInfo layer can be shared with other modules.
- These fixes .code 16 / .code 32 support since mode switch is updated in
  MCSubtargetInfo so MC code emitter can do the right thing.

Chris Lattner b1ed91f397 Land the long talked about "type system rewrite" patch. This
patch brings numerous advantages to LLVM.  One way to look at it
is through diffstat:
 109 files changed, 3005 insertions(+), 5906 deletions(-)

Removing almost 3K lines of code is a good thing.  Other advantages
include:

1. Value::getType() is a simple load that can be CSE'd, not a mutating
   union-find operation.
2. Types a uniqued and never move once created, defining away PATypeHolder.
3. Structs can be "named" now, and their name is part of the identity that
   uniques them.  This means that the compiler doesn't merge them structurally
   which makes the IR much less confusing.
4. Now that there is no way to get a cycle in a type graph without a named
   struct type, "upreferences" go away.
5. Type refinement is completely gone, which should make LTO much MUCH faster
   in some common cases with C++ code.
6. Types are now generally immutable, so we can use "Type *" instead 
   "const Type *" everywhere.

Downsides of this patch are that it removes some functions from the C API,
so people using those will have to upgrade to (not yet added) new API.  
"LLVM 3.0" is the right time to do this.

There are still some cleanups pending after this, this patch is large enough
as-is.

Evan Cheng 91111d2706 Change createAsmParser to take a MCSubtargetInfo instead of triple,
CPU, and feature string. Parsing some asm directives can change
subtarget state (e.g. .code 16) and it must be reflected in other
modules (e.g. MCCodeEmitter). That is, the MCSubtargetInfo instance
must be shared.

Jakob Stoklund Olesen 4931bbc671 Be more aggressive about following hints.
RAGreedy::tryAssign will now evict interference from the preferred
register even when another register is free.

To support this, add the EvictionCost struct that counts how many hints
are broken by an eviction. We don't want to break one hint just to
satisfy another.

Rename canEvict to shouldEvict, and add the first bit of eviction policy
that doesn't depend on spill weights: Always make room in the preferred
register as long as the evictees can be split and aren't already
assigned to their preferred register.

Also make the CSR avoidance more accurate. When looking for a cheaper
register it is OK to use a new volatile register. Only CSR aliases that
have never been used before should be avoided.

Jim Grosbach bcb36be8e3 TableGen'erated MC lowering for simple pseudo-instructions.
This allows the (many) pseudo-instructions we have that map onto a single
real instruction to have their expansion during MC lowering handled
automatically instead of the current cumbersome manual expansion required.
These sorts of pseudos are common when an instruction is used in situations
that require different MachineInstr flags (isTerminator, isBranch, et. al.)
than the generic instruction description has. For example, using a move
to the PC to implement a branch.

Evan Cheng 4d1ca96bfc Eliminate asm parser's dependency on TargetMachine:
- Each target asm parser now creates its own MCSubtatgetInfo (if needed).
- Changed AssemblerPredicate to take subtarget features which tablegen uses
  to generate asm matcher subtarget feature queries. e.g.
  "ModeThumb,FeatureThumb2" is translated to
  "(Bits & ModeThumb) != 0 && (Bits & FeatureThumb2) != 0".

Akira Hatanaka 2f2d9cbb22 This patch adds a flag in MCAsmInfo that indicates whether dwarf register
numbers should be printed instead of symbolic register names in
MCAsmStreamer::EmitRegisterName. This is necessary because some versions of
GNU assembler won't accept code in which symbolic register names are used in
cfi directives. There is no change in behavior unless the flag is explicitly
set to true by a backend.

Lang Hames 5a00499e87 Add functions 'hasPredecessor' and 'hasPredecessorHelper' to SDNode. The
hasPredecessorHelper function allows predecessors to be cached to speed up
repeated invocations. This fixes PR10186.

X.isPredecessorOf(Y) now just calls Y.hasPredecessor(X)

Y.hasPredecessor(X) calls Y.hasPredecessorHelper(X, Visited, Worklist) with
empty Visited and Worklist sets (i.e. no caching over invocations).

Y.hasPredecessorHelper(X, Visited, Worklist) caches search state in Visited
and Worklist to speed up repeated calls. The Visited set is searched for X
before going to the worklist to further search the DAG if necessary.

Owen Anderson 145a260f75 Fix a subtle issue in SmallVector. The following code did not work as expected:
vec.insert(vec.begin(), vec[3]);
The issue was that vec[3] returns a reference into the vector, which is invalidated when insert() memmove's the elements down to make space.  The method needs to specifically detect and handle this case to correctly match std::vector's semantics.

Thanks to Howard Hinnant for clarifying the correct behavior, and explaining how std::vector solves this problem.

Jim Grosbach f3fd36e0f5 Don't require pseudo-instructions to carry encoding information.
For now this is distinct from isCodeGenOnly, as code-gen-only
instructions can (and often do) still have encoding information
associated with them. Once we've migrated all of them over to true
pseudo-instructions that are lowered to real instructions prior to
the printer/emitter, we can remove isCodeGenOnly and just use isPseudo.

Tobias Grosser d562d30a20 SuccIterator on bbs without terminator insts
Remove the assert that triggers if SuccIterator is constructed for a basic block
without a terminator instruction. Instead of triggering an assert a succ_end()
iterator is returned. This models a basic block with zero successors and allows
us to use F->viewCFG() on incompletely constructed functions.

Jakob Stoklund Olesen 25a404eb81 Include a source location when complaining about bad inline assembly.
Add a MI->emitError() method that the backend can use to report errors
related to inline assembly. Call it from X86FloatingPoint.cpp when the
constraints are wrong.

This enables proper clang diagnostics from the backend:

$ clang -c pr30848.c

Evan Cheng fe6e405e8c Fix the ridiculous SubtargetFeatures API where it implicitly expects CPU name to
be the first encoded as the first feature. It then uses the CPU name to look up
features / scheduling itineray even though clients know full well the CPU name
being used to query these properties.

The fix is to just have the clients explictly pass the CPU name!

Devang Patel 4dc034df1d During bottom up fast-isel, instructions emitted to materalize registers are at top of basic block and do not have debug location. This may misguide debugger while entering the basic block and sometimes debugger provides semi useful view of current location to developer by picking up previous known location as current location. Assign a sensible location to the first instruction in a basic block, if it does not have one location derived from source file, so that debugger can provide meaningful user experience to developers in edge cases.

Jakob Stoklund Olesen 537a302d1a Distinguish early clobber output operands from clobbered registers.
Both become <earlyclobber> defs on the INLINEASM MachineInstr, but we
now use two different asm operand kinds.

The new Kind_Clobber is treated identically to the old
Kind_RegDefEarlyClobber for now, but x87 floating point stack inline
assembly does care about the difference.

This will pop a register off the stack:

  asm("fstp %st" : : "t"(x) : "st");

While this will pop the input and push an output:

  asm("fst %st" : "=&t"(r) : "t"(x));

We need to know if ST0 was a clobber or an output operand, and we can't
depend on <dead> flags for that.

Jim Grosbach 28fcafb502 Refactor MachO relocation generaration into the Target directories.

Evan Cheng 247533179a Starting to refactor Target to separate out code that's needed to fully describe
target machine from those that are only needed by codegen. The goal is to
sink the essential target description into MC layer so we can start building
MC based tools without needing to link in the entire codegen.

First step is to refactor TargetRegisterInfo. This patch added a base class
MCRegisterInfo which TargetRegisterInfo is derived from. Changed TableGen to
separate register description from the rest of the stuff.

Jay Foad e03c05c35a Change how PHINodes store their operands.
Change PHINodes to store simple pointers to their incoming basic blocks,
instead of full-blown Uses.

Note that this loses an optimization in SplitCriticalEdge(), because we
can no longer walk the use list of a BasicBlock to find phi nodes. See
the comment I removed starting "However, the foreach loop is slow for
blocks with lots of predecessors".

Extend replaceAllUsesWith() on a BasicBlock to also update any phi
nodes in the block's successors. This mimics what would have happened
when PHINodes were proper Users of their incoming blocks. (Note that
this only works if OldBB->replaceAllUsesWith(NewBB) is called when
OldBB still has a terminator instruction, so it still has some
successors.)

Chris Lattner cc19efaa97 Revamp the "ConstantStruct::get" methods. Previously, these were scattered
all over the place in different styles and variants.  Standardize on two
preferred entrypoints: one that takes a StructType and ArrayRef, and one that
takes StructType and varargs.

In cases where there isn't a struct type convenient, we now add a
ConstantStruct::getAnon method (whose name will make more sense after a few
more patches land).  

It would be "really really nice" if the ConstantStruct::get and 
ConstantVector::get methods didn't make temporary std::vectors.

Jakob Stoklund Olesen 3bd1b65ed3 Add a RegisterTuples class to Target.td and TableGen.
A RegisterTuples instance is used to synthesize super-registers by
zipping together lists of sub-registers. This is useful for generating
pseudo-registers representing register sequence constraints like 'two
consecutive GPRs', or 'an even-odd pair of floating point registers'.

The RegisterTuples def can be used in register set operations when
building register classes. That is the only way of accessing the
synthesized super-registers.

For example, the ARM QQ register class of pseudo-registers could have
been formed like this:

  // Form pairs Q0_Q1, Q2_Q3, ...
  def QQPairs : RegisterTuples<[qsub_0, qsub_1],
                               [(decimate QPR, 2),
                                (decimate (shl QPR, 1), 2)]>;

Jakob Stoklund Olesen d53674aaf1 Remove MethodProtos/MethodBodies and allocation_order_begin/end.
Targets that need to change the default allocation order should use the
AltOrders mechanism instead. See the X86 and ARM targets for examples.

The allocation_order_begin() and allocation_order_end() methods have been
replaced with getRawAllocationOrder(), and there is further support
functions in RegisterClassInfo.

It is no longer possible to insert arbitrary code into generated
register classes. This is a feature.

A register class can define AltOrders and AltOrderSelect instead of
defining method protos and bodies. The AltOrders lists can be defined
with set operations, and TableGen can verify that the alternative
allocation orders only contain valid registers.

This is currently an opt-in feature, and it is still possible to
override allocation_order_begin/end. That will not be true for long.

Owen Anderson 5fc8b77f83 Change the REG_SEQUENCE SDNode to take an explict register class ID as its first operand. This operand is lowered away by the time we reach MachineInstrs, so the actual register-allocation handling of them doesn't need to change.
This is intended to support using REG_SEQUENCE SDNode's with type MVT::untyped, and is part of the long road to eliminating some of the hacks we currently use to support register pairs and other strange constraints, particularly on ARM NEON.

it makes sense, but leave some clients that look like they really want

This will be used in future work for modelling ISA features like register pairs and lists with "interesting" constraints (such as ARM NEON contiguous register lists or even-odd paired registers). We need to be able to generate these instructions (often from intrinsics), but don't want to have to assign a legal type to them. Instead, we'll use an "untyped" edge to bypass the type-checking and simply ensure that the register classes match.

John McCall 4b7a8d68ae Add a new function attribute, nonlazybind, which inhibits lazy-loading
optimizations when emitting calls to the function;  instead those calls may
use faster relocations which require the function to be immediately resolved
upon loading the dynamic object featuring the call.  This is useful when it
is known that the function will be called frequently and pervasively and
therefore there is no merit in delaying binding of the function.

Currently only implemented for x86-64, where it turns into a call through
the global offset table.

Patch by Dan Gohman, who assures me that he's going to add LangRef documentation
for this once it's committed.

Re-apply 133010, with fixes for inline assembler.

Original commit message:
"When an assembler local symbol is used but not defined in a module, a
Darwin assembler wants to issue a diagnostic to that effect."

Added fix to only perform the check when finalizing, as otherwise we're not
done and undefined symbols may simply not have been encountered yet.

Passes "make check" and a self-host check on Darwin.

Owen Anderson 86fd3c0058 Replace the statically generated hashtables for checking register relationships with just scanning the (typically tiny) static lists.
At the time I wrote this code (circa 2007), TargetRegisterInfo was using a std::set to perform these queries.  Switching to the static hashtables was an obvious improvement, but in reality there's no reason to do anything other than scan.
With this change, total LLC time on a whole-program 403.gcc is reduced by approximately 1.5%, almost all of which comes from a 15% reduction in LiveVariables time.  It also reduces the binary size of LLC by 86KB, thanks to eliminating a bunch of very large static tables.

Ted Kremenek b05f02e956 add option for literal formatting to APInt::toString()
toString() now takes an optional bool argument that,
depending on the radix, adds the appropriate prefix
to the integer's string representation that makes it into a
meaningful C literal, e.g.:

hexademical: '-f' becomes '-0xf'
octal: '77' becomes '077'
binary: '110' becomes '0b110'

Jakob Stoklund Olesen b707659519 Tweak hash function and compress hash tables.
Make the hash tables as small as possible while ensuring that all
lookups can be done in less than 8 probes.

Cut the aliases hash table in half by only storing a < b pairs - it
is a symmetric relation.

Use larger multipliers on the initial hash function to ensure that it
properly covers the whole table, and to resolve some clustering in the
very regular ARM register bank.

This reduces the size of most of these tables by 4x - 8x. For instance,
the ARM tables shrink from 48 KB to 8 KB.

Jakob Stoklund Olesen d2b4713e53 Compute lists of sub-regs, super-regs, and overlapping regs.
Besides moving structural computations to CodeGenRegisters.cpp, this
also well-defines the order of these lists:

- Sub-register lists come from a pre-order traversal of the graph
  defined by the SubRegs lists in the .td files.

- Super-register lists are topologically ordered so no register comes
  before any of its sub-registers. When the sub-register graph is not a
  tree, independent super-registers appear in numerical order.

- Lists of overlapping registers are ordered according to register
  number.

This reverses the order of the super-regs lists, but nobody was
depending on that. The previous order of the overlaps lists was odd, and
it may have depended on the precise behavior of std::stable_sort.

The old computations are still there, but will be removed shortly.

Andrew Trick 49371f3f33 New BranchProbabilityInfo analysis. Patch by Jakub Staszak!
BranchProbabilityInfo provides an interface for IR passes to query the
likelihood that control follows a CFG edge. This patch provides an
initial implementation of static branch predication that will populate
BranchProbabilityInfo for branches with no external profile
information using very simple heuristics. It currently isn't hooked up
to any external profile data, so static prediction does all the work.

Dan Gohman fb02cec44e Fix BasicAA's recursion detection so that it doesn't pessimize
queries in the case of a DAG, where a query reaches a node
visited earlier, but it's not on a cycle. This avoids
MayAlias results in cases where BasicAA is expected to
return MustAlias or PartialAlias in order to protect TBAA.

Jakob Stoklund Olesen 75703ca76f Make it possible to have unallocatable register classes.
Some register classes are only used for instruction operand constraints.
They should never be used for virtual registers. Previously, those
register classes were given an empty allocation order, but now you can
say 'let isAllocatable=0' in the register class definition.

TableGen calculates if a register is part of any allocatable register
class, and makes that information available in TargetRegisterDesc::inAllocatableClass.

The goal here is to eliminate use cases for overriding allocation_order_*
methods.

Charles Davis 006e1c39d0 Test .seh_startchained and .seh_endchained parsing.
Rework how the MCWin64EHUnwindInfo instances are stored. Fix issues with
chained unwind areas exposed by the test that were related to this.

The ChainedParent field had the wrong address, because when the chained unwind
info was added, the addresses shifted around. Now we store the pointers to the
structures, which are now allocated from the MC heap.

Frits van Bommel ad964559ef Add a parameter to ConstantFoldTerminator() that callers can use to ask it to also clean up the condition of any conditional terminator it folds to be unconditional, if that turns the condition into dead code. This just means it calls RecursivelyDeleteTriviallyDeadInstructions() in strategic spots. It defaults to the old behavior.
I also changed -simplifycfg, -jump-threading and -codegenprepare to use this to produce slightly better code without any extra cleanup passes (AFAICT this was the only place in -simplifycfg where now-dead conditions of replaced terminators weren't being cleaned up). The only other user of this function is -sccp, but I didn't read that thoroughly enough to figure out whether it might be holding pointers to instructions that could be deleted by this.

Andrew Trick f44aadf0fd indvars: Prototyping Sign/ZeroExtend elimination without canonical IVs.
No functionality enabled by default. Use -disable-iv-rewrite.
Extended IVUsers to keep track of the phi that represents the users' IV.
Added the WidenIV transform to replace a narrow IV with a wide IV
by doing a one-for-one replacement of IV users instead of expanding the
SCEV expressions. [sz]exts are removed and truncs are inserted.

Charles Davis 77e0610d7c Add some more Win64 EH directives:
- StartChained and EndChained delimit a chained unwind area, which can contain
  additional operations to be undone if an exception occurs inside of it.
- UnwindOnly declares that this function doesn't handle any exceptions. If it
  has a handler, it's an unwind handler instead of an exception handler.
- Lsda declares the location and size of the LSDA, which in the Win64 EH
  scheme is kept inside the UNWIND_INFO struct. Windows itself ignores the
  LSDA; it's used by the Language-Specific Handler (the "Personality Function"
  from DWARF).

Charles Davis 384041d0dc While thinking about how to know where the functions' boundaries are for
the purposes of the Win64 EH tables, I realized we had no way to tell where
the function ends. (MASM bounds functions with PROC and ENDP keywords.)
Add a directive to delimit the end of the function, and rename the 'frame'
directive to more accurately reflect its duality with the new directive.

Jakob Stoklund Olesen 4edf17d91f Teach LiveInterval::isZeroLength about null SlotIndexes.
When instructions are deleted, they leave tombstone SlotIndex entries.
The isZeroLength method should ignore these null indexes.

This causes RABasic to sometimes spill a callee-saved register in the
abi-isel.ll test, so don't run that test with -regalloc=basic.  Prioritizing
register allocation according to spill weight can cause more registers to be
used.

Andrew Trick 55aeb55aa3 Bugpoint support for miscompilations that result in a crash.
This change allows bugpoint to pinpoint the "opt" pass and bitcode
segment responsible for a crash caused by miscompilation. At least it
works well for me now, without having to create any custom execution
wrappers.

David Chisnall c2fcb4df5e Add support for plugins add passes to the default set of passes. The standard set of passes used by front ends can now be modified by LLVM plugins, without needing to modify any front ends.
Still to do:

- Allow replacing / removing passes (infrastructure there, just needs an infrastructure exposed)
- Defining sets of passes to be added or removed as a group
- Extending the support to allow user-defined groups of optimisations
- Allow plugins to be specified for loading automatically (e.g. from plugins.conf or some similar mechanism)

Rafael Espindola fdc3e6fab6 Use .cfi_sections to put the unwind info in .debug_frame when possible. With
this clang will use .debug_frame in, for example,
clang -g -c -m32 test.c
This matches gcc's behaviour. It looks like .debug_frame is a bit bigger
than .eh_frame, but has the big advantage of not being allocated.

Chris Lattner 827a270a2a teach GVN to widen integer loads when they are overaligned, when doing an
wider load would allow elimination of subsequent loads, and when the wider
load is still a native integer type.  This eliminates a ton of loads on 
various benchmarks involving struct fields, though it is somewhat hobbled
by clang not being very aggressive about field alignment.

This is yet another step along the way towards resolving PR6627.

Rafael Espindola 2eeee8cfef Add a small temporary hack for producing identical eh_frame sections on OS X.
This removes one of the main advantages of moving eh_frame to MC, but
makes the transition a lot easier to debug (run md5).

Rafael Espindola 08704349da Rename getPersonalityPICSymbol to getCFIPersonalitySymbol, document it, and
give it a bit more responsibility. Also implement it for MachO.

If hacked to use cfi, 32 bit MachO will produce

.cfi_personality 155, L___gxx_personality_v0$non_lazy_ptr

and 64 bit will produce

.cfi_presonality ___gxx_personality_v0

The general idea is that .cfi_personality gets passed the final symbol. It is
up to codegen to produce it if using indirect representation (like 32 bit
MachO), but it is up to MC to decide which relocations to create.

Dan Gohman 39b3a1ef7f When analyzing functions known to only access argument pointees,
only check arguments with pointer types. Update the documentation
of IntrReadArgMem reflect this.

While here, add support for TBAA tags on intrinsic calls.

Evan Cheng 1355bbdd11 Be careful about scheduling nodes above previous calls. It increase usages of
more callee-saved registers and introduce copies. Only allows it if scheduling
a node above calls would end up lessen register pressure.

Call operands also has added ABI restrictions for register allocation, so be
extra careful with hoisting them above calls.

Chris Lattner 029afe4787 make a couple of changes to the standard pass pipeline:
1. Only run the early (in the module pass pipe) instcombine/simplifycfg
   if the "unit at a time" passes they are cleaning up after runs.

2. Move the "clean up after the unroller" pass to the very end of the
   function-level pass pipeline.  Loop unroll uses instsimplify now,
   so it doesn't create a ton of trash.  Moving instcombine later allows
   it to clean up after opportunities are exposed by GVN, DSE, etc.

3. Introduce some phase ordering tests for things that are specifically
   intended to be simplified by the full optimizer as a whole.

This resolves PR2338, and is progress towards PR6627, which will be 
generating code that looks similar to test2.

Jakob Stoklund Olesen 3b7b7bcc7f Use the new TRI->getLargestLegalSuperClass hook to constrain register class inflation.
This has two effects: 1. We never inflate to a larger register class than what
the sub-target can handle. 2. Completely unconstrained virtual registers get the
largest possible register class.

Jakob Stoklund Olesen 803a200077 Add a TRI::getLargestLegalSuperClass hook to provide an upper limit on register class inflation.
The hook will be used by the register allocator when recomputing register
classes after removing constraints.

Thumb1 code doesn't allow anything larger than tGPR, and x86 needs to ensure
that the spill size doesn't change.

This worked untill now because stars are aligned (i.e. num of complex address elments are always 0 or 2+ and when it is 2+ at least two elements are access together)

Chris Lattner 6f83d06ffa Enhance MemDep: When alias analysis returns a partial alias result,
return it as a clobber.  This allows GVN to do smart things.

Enhance GVN to be smart about the case when a small load is clobbered
by a larger overlapping load.  In this case, forward the value.  This
allows us to compile stuff like this:

int test(void *P) {
  int tmp = *(unsigned int*)P;
  return tmp+*((unsigned char*)P+1);
}

into:

_test:                                  ## @test
	movl	(%rdi), %ecx
	movzbl	%ch, %eax
	addl	%ecx, %eax
	ret

which has one load.  We already handled the case where the smaller
load was from a must-aliased base pointer.
