Aleksandar Beserminji 3239ba8c0e [mips] Fix atomic operations at O0, v3
Similar to PR/25526, fast-regalloc introduces spills at the end of basic
blocks. When this occurs in between an ll and sc, the stores can cause the
atomic sequence to fail.

This patch fixes the issue by introducing more pseudos to represent atomic
operations and moving their lowering to after the expansion of postRA
pseudos.

This version addresses issues with the initial implementation and covers
all atomic operations.

This resolves PR/32020.

Thanks to James Cowgill for reporting the issue!

Petar Jovanovic 3af2c992dc [Mips][FastISel] Do not duplicate condition while lowering branches
This change fixes the issue that arises when we duplicate condition from
the predecessor block. If the condition's arguments are not considered alive
across the blocks, fast regalloc gets confused and starts generating reloads
from the slots that have never been spilled to. This change also leads to
smaller code given that, unlike on architectures with condition codes, on
Mips we can branch directly on register value, thus we gain nothing by
duplication.

Alexander Richardson 8f44579d0b Emit a left-shift instead of a power-of-two multiply for jump-tables
Summary:
SelectionDAGLegalize::ExpandNode() inserts an ISD::MUL when lowering a
BR_JT opcode. While many backends optimize this multiply into a shift, e.g.
the MIPS backend currently always lowers this into a sequence of
load-immediate+multiply+mflo in MipsSETargetLowering::lowerMulDiv().

I initially changed the multiply to a shift in the MIPS backend but it
turns out that would not have handled the MIPSR6 case and was a lot more
code than doing it in LegalizeDAG.
I believe performing this simple optimization in LegalizeDAG instead of
each individual backend is the better solution since this also fixes other
backeds such as MSP430 which calls the multiply runtime function
__mspabi_mpyi without this patch.

Shiva Chen 2c864551df [DebugInfo] Add DILabel metadata and intrinsic llvm.dbg.label.
In order to set breakpoints on labels and list source code around
labels, we need collect debug information for labels, i.e., label
name, the function label belong, line number in the file, and the
address label located. In order to keep these information in LLVM
IR and to allow backend to generate debug information correctly.
We create a new kind of metadata for labels, DILabel. The format
of DILabel is

!DILabel(scope: !1, name: "foo", file: !2, line: 3)

We hope to keep debug information as much as possible even the
code is optimized. So, we create a new kind of intrinsic for label
metadata to avoid the metadata is eliminated with basic block.
The intrinsic will keep existing if we keep it from optimized out.
The format of the intrinsic is

llvm.dbg.label(metadata !1)

It has only one argument, that is the DILabel metadata. The
intrinsic will follow the label immediately. Backend could get the
label metadata through the intrinsic's parameter.

We also create DIBuilder API for labels to be used by Frontend.
Frontend could use createLabel() to allocate DILabel objects, and use
insertLabel() to insert llvm.dbg.label intrinsic in LLVM IR.

that code coverage instrumentation is a great way to create sequences
like this, which how our users ran into the issue in practice.

Intel has a tool that detects these kinds of non-linear compile time
issues, and Andy Kaylor reported it as PR37010.

The current sinking code scans the whole basic block once per local
value sink, which happens before emitting each call. In theory, local
values should only be introduced to be used by instructions between the
current flush point and the last flush point, so we should only need to
scan those instructions.

Reid Kleckner 3a7a2e4a0a [FastISel] Sink local value materializations to first use
Summary:
Local values are constants, global addresses, and stack addresses that
can't be folded into the instruction that uses them. For example, when
storing the address of a global variable into memory, we need to
materialize that address into a register.

FastISel doesn't want to materialize any given local value more than
once, so it generates all local value materialization code at
EmitStartPt, which always dominates the current insertion point. This
allows it to maintain a map of local value registers, and it knows that
the local value area will always dominate the current insertion point.

The downside is that local value instructions are always emitted without
a source location. This is done to prevent jumpy line tables, but it
means that the local value area will be considered part of the previous
statement. Consider this C code:
  call1();      // line 1
  ++global;     // line 2
  ++global;     // line 3
  call2(&global, &local); // line 4

Today we end up with assembly and line tables like this:
  .loc 1 1
  callq call1
  leaq global(%rip), %rdi
  leaq local(%rsp), %rsi
  .loc 1 2
  addq $1, global(%rip)
  .loc 1 3
  addq $1, global(%rip)
  .loc 1 4
  callq call2

The LEA instructions in the local value area have no source location and
are treated as being on line 1. Stepping through the code in a debugger
and correlating it with the assembly won't make much sense, because
these materializations are only required for line 4.

This is actually problematic for the VS debugger "set next statement"
feature, which effectively assumes that there are no registers live
across statement boundaries. By sinking the local value code into the
statement and fixing up the source location, we can make that feature
work. This was filed as https://bugs.llvm.org/show_bug.cgi?id=35975 and
https://crbug.com/793819.

This change is obviously not enough to make this feature work reliably
in all cases, but I felt that it was worth doing anyway because it
usually generates smaller, more comprehensible -O0 code. I measured a
0.12% regression in code generation time with LLC on the sqlite3
amalgamation, so I think this is worth doing.

There are some special cases worth calling out in the commit message:
1. local values materialized for phis
2. local values used by no-op casts
3. dead local value code

Local values can be materialized for phis, and this does not show up as
a vreg use in MachineRegisterInfo. In this case, if there are no other
uses, this patch sinks the value to the first terminator, EH label, or
the end of the BB if nothing else exists.

Local values may also be used by no-op casts, which adds the register to
the RegFixups table. Without reversing the RegFixups map direction, we
don't have enough information to sink these instructions.

Lastly, if the local value register has no other uses, we can delete it.
This comes up when fastisel tries two instruction selection approaches
and the first materializes the value but fails and the second succeeds
without using the local value.

Simon Dardis 9d7e9032f1 [mips] Don't create nested CALLSEQ_START..CALLSEQ_END nodes.
For the MIPS O32 ABI, the current call lowering logic naively lowers each
call, creating the reserved argument area to hold the argument spill areas for
$a0..$a3 and the outgoing parameter area if one is required at each call site.

In the case of a sufficently large byval argument, a call to memcpy is used
to write the start+16..end of the argument into the outgoing parameter area.
This is done within the CALLSEQ_START..CALLSEQ_END of the callee. The CALLSEQ
nodes are responsible for performing the necessary stack adjustments.

Since the O32/N32/N64 MIPS ABIs do not have a red-zone and writing below the
stack pointer and reading the values back is unpredictable, the call to memcpy
cannot be hoisted out of the callee's CALLSEQ nodes.

However, for the O32 ABI requires the reserved argument area for functions
which have parameters. The naive lowering of calls will then create nested
CALLSEQ sequences. For N32 and N64 these nodes are also created, but with
zero stack adjustments as those ABIs do not have a reserved argument area.

This patch addresses the correctness issue by recognizing the special case
of lowering a byval argument that uses memcpy. By recognizing that the
incoming chain already has a CALLSEQ_START node on it when calling memcpy,
the CALLSEQ nodes are not created. For the N32 and N64 ABIs, this is not an
issue, as no stack adjustment has to be performed.

For the O32 ABI, the correctness reasoning is different. In the case of a
sufficently large byval argument, registers a0..a3 are going to be used for
the callee's arguments, mandating the creation of the reserved argument area.
The call to memcpy in the naive case will also create its own reserved
argument area. However, since the reserved argument area consists of undefined
values, both calls can use the same reserved argument area.

Chih-Hung Hsieh 9f9e4681ac [TLS] use emulated TLS if the target supports only this mode
Emulated TLS is enabled by llc flag -emulated-tls,
which is passed by clang driver.
When llc is called explicitly or from other drivers like LTO,
missing -emulated-tls flag would generate wrong TLS code for targets
that supports only this mode.
Now use useEmulatedTLS() instead of Options.EmulatedTLS to decide whether
emulated TLS code should be generated.
Unit tests are modified to run with and without the -emulated-tls flag.

Simon Dardis 7bc8ad5849 [mips] Spectre variant two mitigation for MIPSR2
This patch provides mitigation for CVE-2017-5715, Spectre variant two,
which affects the P5600 and P6600. It implements the LLVM part of
-mindirect-jump=hazard. It is _not_ enabled by default for the P5600.

The migitation strategy suggested by MIPS for these processors is to use
hazard barrier instructions. 'jalr.hb' and 'jr.hb' are hazard
barrier variants of the 'jalr' and 'jr' instructions respectively.

These instructions impede the execution of instruction stream until
architecturally defined hazards (changes to the instruction stream,
privileged registers which may affect execution) are cleared. These
instructions in MIPS' designs are not speculated past.

These instructions are used with the attribute +use-indirect-jump-hazard
when branching indirectly and for indirect function calls.

These instructions are defined by the MIPS32R2 ISA, so this mitigation
method is not compatible with processors which implement an earlier
revision of the MIPS ISA.

Performance benchmarking of this option with -fpic and lld using
-z hazardplt shows a difference of overall 10%~ time increase
for the LLVM testsuite. Certain benchmarks such as methcall show a
substantially larger increase in time due to their nature.

This commit breaks target that don't model all the register constraints

Daniel Neilson 1e68724d24 Remove alignment argument from memcpy/memmove/memset in favour of alignment attributes (Step 1)
Summary:
This is a resurrection of work first proposed and discussed in Aug 2015:
   http://lists.llvm.org/pipermail/llvm-dev/2015-August/089384.html
and initially landed (but then backed out) in Nov 2015:
   http://lists.llvm.org/pipermail/llvm-commits/Week-of-Mon-20151109/312083.html

The @llvm.memcpy/memmove/memset intrinsics currently have an explicit argument
which is required to be a constant integer. It represents the alignment of the
dest (and source), and so must be the minimum of the actual alignment of the
two.

This change is the first in a series that allows source and dest to each
have their own alignments by using the alignment attribute on their arguments.

 In this change we:
1) Remove the alignment argument.
2) Add alignment attributes to the source & dest arguments. We, temporarily,
require that the alignments for source & dest be equal.

For example, code which used to read:
  call void @llvm.memcpy.p0i8.p0i8.i32(i8* %dest, i8* %src, i32 100, i32 4, i1 false)
will now read
  call void @llvm.memcpy.p0i8.p0i8.i32(i8* align 4 %dest, i8* align 4 %src, i32 100, i1 false)

Downstream users may have to update their lit tests that check for
@llvm.memcpy/memmove/memset call/declaration patterns. The following extended sed script
may help with updating the majority of your tests, but it does not catch all possible
patterns so some manual checking and updating will be required.

Craig Topper b2368fbdf4 [SelectionDAG] Reverse the order of operands in the ISD::ADD created by TargetLowering::getVectorElementPointer so that the FrameIndex is on the left.
This seems to improve X86's ability to match this into an address computation. Otherwise the other operand gets assigned to the base register and the stack pointer + frame index ends up in the index register. But index registers can't encode ESP/RSP so we end up having to move it into another register to meet the constraint.

I could try to improve the address matcher in X86, but swapping the producer seemed easier. Several other places already have the operands in this order so this is at least consistent.

MIPSR6 introduced several new jump instructions and deprecated
the use of the 'j' instruction. For microMIPS32R6, 'j' was removed

This patch adds support for MIPSR6 by using some R6 instructions--
'bc' instead of 'j', 'jic $reg, 0' instead of 'jalr $zero, $reg'--
and modifies the sequences not to use delay slots for R6.

Simon Dardis 3aeb1a5404 [DAGCombine] Disable finding better chains for stores at O0
Unoptimized IR can have linear sequences of stores to an array, where the
initial GEP for the first store is formed from the pointer to the array, and the
GEP for each store after the first is formed from the previous GEP with some
offset in an inductive fashion.

The (large) resulting DAG when analyzed by DAGCombine undergoes an excessive
number of combines as each store node is examined every time its' offset node
is combined with any child of the offset. One of the transformations is
findBetterNeighborChains which assists MergeConsecutiveStores. The former
relies on repeated chain walking to do its' work, however MergeConsecutiveStores
is disabled at O0 which makes the transformation redundant.

Any optimization level other than O0 would invoke InstCombine which would
resolve the chain of GEPs into flat base + offset GEP for each store which
does not exhibit the repeated examination of each store to the array.

Disabling this optimization fixes an excessive compile time issue (30~ minutes
for the test case provided) at O0.

PR35071 exposed the fact that MipsInstrInfo::removeBranch did not walk past

lead to duplicated conditional branches. If the target of the branch was a

have it's MBB operands updated, leaving the first branch with a dangling MBB

Issues addressed since original review:
- Avoid bug in regalloc greedy/machine verifier when forwarding to use

- Fixed bug when forwarding to use in EarlyClobber instruction slot.
- Fixed incorrect forwarding to register definitions that showed up in

- Fixed ARMLoadStoreOptimizer bug exposed by this change in r311907.
- The pass no longer forwards COPYs to physical register uses, since

- The pass no longer forwards COPYs to undef uses, since doing so

This patch also enables target specific instruction verification for ins, dins,
dinsm, dinsu, ext, dext, dextm, dextu. These instructions have constraints that
are checked when generating MipsISD::Ins and MipsISD::Ext nodes, but these
constraints are not checked during instruction selection. Adding machine

Dean Michael Berris 01fd7c8bd4 [XRay][CodeGen] Use the current function symbol as the associated symbol for the instrumentation map
Summary:
XRay had been assuming that the previous section is the "text" section
of the function when lowering the instrumentation map. Unfortunately
this is not a safe assumption, because we may be coming from lowering
debug type information for the function being lowered.

This fixes an issue with combining -gsplit-dwarf, -generate-type-units,
-debug-compile and -fxray-instrument for sole member functions. When the
split dwarf section is stripped, we're left with references from the
xray_instr_map to the debug section. The change now uses the function's
symbol instead of the previous section's start symbol.

We found the bug while attempting to strip the split debug sections off
an XRay-instrumented object file, which had a peculiar edge-case for
single-function classes where the single function is being lowered.
Because XRay had assocaited the instrumentation map for a function to
the debug types section instead of the function's section, the objcopy
call will fail due to the misplaced reference from the xray_instr_map
section.

Dean Michael Berris 0884b73220 [XRay][CodeGen] Use PIC-friendly code in XRay sleds; remove synthetic references in .text
Summary:
This change achieves two things:

  - Redefine the Custom Event handling instrumentation points emitted by
the compiler to not require dynamic relocation of references to the
    __xray_CustomEvent trampoline.

  - Remove the synthetic reference we emit at the end of a function that
we used to keep auxiliary sections alive in favour of SHF_LINK_ORDER
associated with the section where the function is defined.

To achieve the custom event handling change, we've had to introduce the
concept of sled versioning -- this will need to be supported by the
runtime to allow us to understand how to turn on/off the new version of
the custom event handling sleds. That change has to land first before we
change the way we write the sleds.

To remove the synthetic reference, we rely on a relatively new linker
feature that preserves the sections that are associated with each other.
This allows us to limit the effects on the .text section of ELF
binaries.

Because we're still using absolute references that are resolved at
runtime for the instrumentation map (and function index) maps, we mark
these sections write-able. In the future we can re-define the entries in
the map to use relative relocations instead that can be statically
determined by the linker. That change will be a bit more invasive so we
defer this for later.

Depends on D36816.

Geoff Berry 51f52c4fca Re-enable "[MachineCopyPropagation] Extend pass to do COPY source forwarding"
Two issues identified by buildbots were addressed:
    - The pass no longer forwards COPYs to physical register uses, since
doing so can break code that implicitly relies on the physical
      register number of the use.
    - The pass no longer forwards COPYs to undef uses, since doing so
can break the machine verifier by creating LiveRanges that don't
end on a use (since the undef operand is not considered a use).

[MachineCopyPropagation] Extend pass to do COPY source forwarding

This change extends MachineCopyPropagation to do COPY source forwarding.

This change also extends the MachineCopyPropagation pass to be able to
be run during register allocation, after physical registers have been
assigned, but before the virtual registers have been re-written, which
allows it to remove virtual register COPY LiveIntervals that become dead
through the forwarding of all of their uses.

Re-recommiting after landing DAG extension-crash fix.

Recommiting after adding check to avoid miscomputing alias information
on addresses of the same base but different subindices.

Memory accesses offset from frame indices may alias, e.g., we
may merge write from function arguments passed on the stack when they
are contiguous. As a result, when checking aliasing, we consider the
underlying frame index's offset from the stack pointer.

Static allocs are realized as stack objects in SelectionDAG, but its
offset is not set until post-DAG causing DAGCombiner's alias check to
consider access to static allocas to frequently alias. Modify isAlias
to consider access between static allocas and access from other frame
objects to be considered aliasing.

Many test changes are included here. Most are fixes for tests which

preserve their original intent.

The remaining tests have minor improvements due to relaxed

Vshf has a property where if its first operand's elements have either bit 6 or 7 set, destination element is set to zero.

Masking with one results in generating a single splati.d instruction when possible.

Simon Dardis 212cccb2f4 Reland "[SelectionDAG] Enable target specific vector scalarization of calls and returns"
By target hookifying getRegisterType, getNumRegisters, getVectorBreakdown,
backends can request that LLVM to scalarize vector types for calls
and returns.

The MIPS vector ABI requires that vector arguments and returns are passed in
integer registers. With SelectionDAG's new hooks, the MIPS backend can now
handle LLVM-IR with vector types in calls and returns. E.g.
'call @foo(<4 x i32> %4)'.

Previously these cases would be scalarized for the MIPS O32/N32/N64 ABI for
calls and returns if vector types were not legal. If vector types were legal,
a single 128bit vector argument would be assigned to a single 32 bit / 64 bit
integer register.

By teaching the MIPS backend to inspect the original types, it can now
implement the MIPS vector ABI which requires a particular method of
scalarizing vectors.

Previously, the MIPS backend relied on clang to scalarize types such as "call
@foo(<4 x float> %a) into "call @foo(i32 inreg %1, i32 inreg %2, i32 inreg %3,
i32 inreg %4)".

This patch enables the MIPS backend to take either form for vector types.

The previous version of this patch had a "conditional move or jump depends on
uninitialized value".

Masked vectors which hold shift amounts when creating the following nodes:
ISD::SHL, ISD::SRL or ISD::SRA.
Instructions that use said nodes, which have had their arguments altered are
sll, srl, sra, bneg, bclr and bset.

For said instructions, the shift amount or the bit position that is
specified in the corresponding vector elements will be interpreted as the
shift amount/bit position modulo the size of the element in bits.

The problem lies in compiling with -O2 enabled, where the instructions for
formats .w and .d are not generated, but are instead optimized away.
In this case, having shift amounts that are either negative or greater than
the element bit size results in generation of incorrect results when
constant folding.

We remedy this by masking the operands for the nodes mentioned above before
actually creating them, so that the final result is correct before placed
into the constant pool.

We have two cases here, the first one being the following instruction
selection from the builtin function:

In case of bm(n)zi having an immediate which has either its high or low bits
set, a bins[lr] instruction can be selected through the selectVSplatMask[LR]
function. The function counts the number of bits set, and that value is
being passed to the bins[lr]i instruction as its immediate, which in turn
copies immediate modulo the size of the element in bits plus 1 as per specs,
where we get the off-by-one-error.

The other case is:
bins[lr]i -> vselect node -> bsel.v

In this case, a bsel.v instruction gets selected with a mask having one bit
less set than required.

Simon Dardis 6470ff0b24 [SelectionDAG] Enable target specific vector scalarization of calls and returns
By target hookifying getRegisterType, getNumRegisters, getVectorBreakdown,

The MIPS vector ABI requires that vector arguments and returns are passed in
integer registers. With SelectionDAG's new hooks, the MIPS backend can now
handle LLVM-IR with vector types in calls and returns. E.g.
'call @foo(<4 x i32> %4)'.

Previously these cases would be scalarized for the MIPS O32/N32/N64 ABI for

Implementation of TargetInstrInfo::findCommutedOpIndices for MIPS target,
restricting commutativity to second and third operand only for
dpaadd_[su].df instructions therein.

Prior to this change, there were cases where the vector that is to be added
to the dot product of the other two could take a position other than the
first one in the instruction, generating false output in the destination
vector.

Such behavior has been noticed in the two functions generating v2i64 output
values so far. Other ones may exhibit such behavior as well, just not for
the vector operands which are present in the test at the moment.

Tests altered so that the function's first operand is a constant splat so
that it can be loaded with a ldi instruction, since that is the case in
which the erroneous instruction operand placement has occurred. We check
that the register which is present in the ldi instruction is placed as the
first operand in the corresponding dpadd instruction.

In the long-term, we want to replace statistics with something
finer-grained that lets us gather per-function data.
Remarks are that replacement.

Create an ORE instance in SelectionDAGISel, and pass it to
SelectionDAG.

SelectionDAG was used so that we can emit remarks from all
SelectionDAG-related code, including TargetLowering and DAGCombiner.
This isn't used in the current patch but Adam tells me he's interested
for the fp-contract combines.

Use the ORE instance to emit FastISel failures as remarks (instead of
the mix of dbgs() dumps and statistics that we currently have).

Eventually, we want to have an API that tells us whether remarks are
enabled (http://llvm.org/PR32352) so that we don't emit expensive
remarks (in this case, dumping IR) when it's not needed. For now, use
'isEnabled' as a crude replacement.

This does mean that the replacement for '-fast-isel-verbose' is now
'-pass-remarks-missed=isel'. Additionally, clang users also need to
enable remark diagnostics, using '-Rpass-missed=isel'.

This also removes '-fast-isel-verbose2': there are no static statistics
that we want to only enable in asserts builds, so we can always use
the remarks regardless of the build type.

Nirav Dave 54e22f33d9 In visitSTORE, always use FindBetterChain, rather than only when UseAA is enabled.
Recommiting with compiler time improvements

Recommitting after fixup of 32-bit aliasing sign offset bug in DAGCombiner.

    * Simplify Consecutive Merge Store Candidate Search

Now that address aliasing is much less conservative, push through
simplified store merging search and chain alias analysis which only
checks for parallel stores through the chain subgraph. This is cleaner
as the separation of non-interfering loads/stores from the
    store-merging logic.

When merging stores search up the chain through a single load, and
finds all possible stores by looking down from through a load and a
    TokenFactor to all stores visited.

This improves the quality of the output SelectionDAG and the output
Codegen (save perhaps for some ARM cases where we correctly constructs
wider loads, but then promotes them to float operations which appear
but requires more expensive constant generation).

Some minor peephole optimizations to deal with improved SubDAG shapes (listed below)

    Additional Minor Changes:

      1. Finishes removing unused AliasLoad code

      2. Unifies the chain aggregation in the merged stores across code
         paths

      3. Re-add the Store node to the worklist after calling
         SimplifyDemandedBits.

      4. Increase GatherAllAliasesMaxDepth from 6 to 18. That number is
arbitrary, but seems sufficient to not cause regressions in
         tests.

      5. Remove Chain dependencies of Memory operations on CopyfromReg
nodes as these are captured by data dependence

      6. Forward loads-store values through tokenfactors containing
          {CopyToReg,CopyFromReg} Values.

      7. Peephole to convert buildvector of extract_vector_elt to
         extract_subvector if possible (see
         CodeGen/AArch64/store-merge.ll)

      8. Store merging for the ARM target is restricted to 32-bit as
some in some contexts invalid 64-bit operations are being
generated. This can be removed once appropriate checks are
         added.

This finishes the change Matt Arsenault started in r246307 and
    jyknight's original patch.

Many tests required some changes as memory operations are now
reorderable, improving load-store forwarding. One test in
    particular is worth noting:

      CodeGen/PowerPC/ppc64-align-long-double.ll - Improved load-store
forwarding converts a load-store pair into a parallel store and
a memory-realized bitcast of the same value. However, because we
lose the sharing of the explicit and implicit store values we
must create another local store. A similar transformation
      happens before SelectionDAG as well.
