Francis Visoiu Mistrih dd42236c6c Reland "[Remarks] Add -foptimization-record-passes to filter remark emission"
Currently we have -Rpass for filtering the remarks that are displayed as
diagnostics, but when using -fsave-optimization-record, there is no way
to filter the remarks while generating them.

This adds support for filtering remarks by passes using a regex.
Ex: `clang -fsave-optimization-record -foptimization-record-passes=inline`

will only emit the remarks coming from the pass `inline`.

This adds:

* `-fsave-optimization-record` to the driver
* `-opt-record-passes` to cc1
* `-lto-pass-remarks-filter` to the LTOCodeGenerator
* `--opt-remarks-passes` to lld
* `-pass-remarks-filter` to llc, opt, llvm-lto, llvm-lto2
* `-opt-remarks-passes` to gold-plugin

Teresa Johnson 290a839891 [LTO] Record whether LTOUnit splitting is enabled in index
Summary:
Records in the module summary index whether the bitcode was compiled
with the option necessary to enable splitting the LTO unit
(e.g. -fsanitize=cfi, -fwhole-program-vtables, or -fsplit-lto-unit).

The information is passed down to the ModuleSummaryIndex builder via a
new module flag "EnableSplitLTOUnit", which is propagated onto a flag
on the summary index.

This is then used during the LTO link to check whether all linked
summaries were built with the same value of this flag. If not, an error
is issued when we detect a situation requiring whole program visibility
of the class hierarchy. This is the case when both of the following
conditions are met:
1) We are performing LowerTypeTests or Whole Program Devirtualization.
2) There are type tests or type checked loads in the code.

Note I have also changed the ThinLTOBitcodeWriter to also gate the
module splitting on the value of this flag.

Matthew Voss 62fcfc5adb [ThinLTO] Remove dllimport attribute from locally defined symbols
Summary:
The LTO/ThinLTO driver currently creates invalid bitcode by setting
symbols marked dllimport as dso_local. The compiler often has access
to the definition (often dllexport) and the declaration (often
dllimport) of an object at link-time, leading to a conflicting
declaration. This patch resolves the inconsistency by removing the
dllimport attribute.

Pirama Arumuga Nainar e61652a384 [LTO] Drop non-prevailing definitions only if linkage is not local or appending
Summary:
This fixes PR 37422

In ELF, non-weak symbols can also be non-prevailing. In this particular
PR, the __llvm_profile_* symbols are non-prevailing but weren't getting
dropped - causing multiply-defined errors with lld.

Also add a test, strong_non_prevailing.ll, to ensure that multiple
copies of a strong symbol are dropped.

To fix the test regressions exposed by this fix,
- do not mark prevailing copies for symbols with 'appending' linkage.
There's no one prevailing copy for such symbols.
- fix the prevailing version in dead-strip-fulllto.ll
- explicitly pass exported symbols to llvm-lto in fumcimport.ll and
funcimport_var.ll

Xin Tong bfdad33b82 [ThinLTO] Keep non-prevailing (linkonce|weak)_odr symbols live
Summary:
If we have a symbol with (linkonce|weak)_odr linkage, we do not want
to dead strip it even it is not prevailing.

IR level (linkonce|weak)_odr symbol can become non-prevailing when we mix
ELF objects and IR objects where the (linkonce|weak)_odr symbol in the ELF
object is prevailing and the ones in the IR objects are not. Stripping
them will prevent us from doing optimizations with them.

By not dead stripping them, We will convert these symbols to
available_externally linkage as a result of non-prevailing and eventually
dropping them after inlining.

I modified cache-prevailing.ll to use linkonce linkage as it is
testing whether cache prevailing bit is effective or not, not
we should treat linkonce_odr alive or not

Summary:
This patch improves Inliner to provide causes/reasons for negative inline decisions.
1. It adds one new message field to InlineCost to report causes for Always and Never instances. All Never and Always instantiations must provide a simple message.
2. Several functions that used to return the inlining results as boolean are changed to return InlineResult which carries the cause for negative decision.
3. Changed remark priniting and debug output messages to provide the additional messages and related inline cost.
4. Adjusted tests for changed printing.

Vlad Tsyrklevich cd1559366d [LowerTypeTests] Limit when icall jumptable entries are emitted
Summary:
Currently LowerTypeTests emits jumptable entries for all live external
and address-taken functions; however, we could limit the number of
functions that we emit entries for significantly.

For Cross-DSO CFI, we continue to emit jumptable entries for all
exported definitions. In the non-Cross-DSO CFI case, we only need to
emit jumptable entries for live functions that are address-taken in live
functions. This ignores exported functions and functions that are only
address taken in dead functions. This change uses ThinLTO summary data
(now emitted for all modules during ThinLTO builds) to determine
address-taken and liveness info.

The logic for emitting jumptable entries is more conservative in the
regular LTO case because we don't have summary data in the case of
monolithic LTO builds; however, once summaries are emitted for all LTO
builds we can unify the Thin/monolithic LTO logic to only use summaries
to determine the liveness of address taking functions.

This change is a partial fix for PR37474. It reduces the build size for
nacl_helper by ~2-3%, the reduction is due to nacl_helper compiling in
lots of unused code and unused functions that are address taken in dead
functions no longer being being considered live due to emitted jumptable
references. The reduction for chromium is ~0.1-0.2%.

Shiva Chen 2c864551df [DebugInfo] Add DILabel metadata and intrinsic llvm.dbg.label.
In order to set breakpoints on labels and list source code around
labels, we need collect debug information for labels, i.e., label
name, the function label belong, line number in the file, and the
address label located. In order to keep these information in LLVM
IR and to allow backend to generate debug information correctly.
We create a new kind of metadata for labels, DILabel. The format
of DILabel is

!DILabel(scope: !1, name: "foo", file: !2, line: 3)

We hope to keep debug information as much as possible even the
code is optimized. So, we create a new kind of intrinsic for label
metadata to avoid the metadata is eliminated with basic block.
The intrinsic will keep existing if we keep it from optimized out.
The format of the intrinsic is

llvm.dbg.label(metadata !1)

It has only one argument, that is the DILabel metadata. The
intrinsic will follow the label immediately. Backend could get the
label metadata through the intrinsic's parameter.

We also create DIBuilder API for labels to be used by Frontend.
Frontend could use createLabel() to allocate DILabel objects, and use
insertLabel() to insert llvm.dbg.label intrinsic in LLVM IR.

This is necessary because DCE is applied to full LTO modules. Without
this change, a reference from a dead ThinLTO global to a dead full

This problem is only observable when --gc-sections is disabled, or
when targeting COFF, as the COFF port of lld requires all symbols to
have a definition even if all references are dead (this is consistent
with link.exe).

This change also adds an EliminateAvailableExternally pass at -O0. This
is necessary to handle the situation on Windows where a non-prevailing
copy of a linkonce_odr function has an SEH filter function; any
such filters must be DCE'd because they will contain a call to the
llvm.localrecover intrinsic, passing as an argument the address of the

We were previously handling aliases during dead stripping by adding
the aliased global's "original name" GUID to the worklist. This will
lead to incorrect behaviour if the global has local linkage because
the original name GUID will not correspond to the global's GUID in
the summary.

Because an alias is just another name for the global that it
references, there is no need to mark the referenced global as used,

we need to do is to follow references from the aliasee's summary

Peter Collingbourne 00f808ffcc Linker: Create a function declaration when moving a non-prevailing alias of function type.
We were previously creating a global variable of function type,
which is invalid IR. This issue was exposed by r304690, in which we
started asserting that global variables were of a valid type.

Dehao Chen 89d3226019 Update the new PM pipeline to make ICP aware if it is SamplePGO build.
Summary: In ThinLTO backend compile, OPTOptions are not set so that the ICP in ThinLTO backend does not know if it is a SamplePGO build, in which profile count needs to be annotated directly on call instructions. This patch cleaned up the PGOOptions handling logic and passes down PGOOptions to ThinLTO backend.

Peter Collingbourne e776dd9ca2 LTO: Export functions referenced by the CFI jump table.
If the LowerTypeTests pass decides to add a function to a jump
table for CFI, it will add its name to the set cfiFunctionDefs,
which among other things will cause the function to be renamed in
the ThinLTO backend.

One other thing that we must do with such functions is to not
internalize them, because the jump table in the full LTO object will
contain a reference to the actual function body in the ThinLTO object.

This patch handles that by ensuring that we export any functions
whose names appear in the cfiFunctionDefs set.

Davide Italiano 6a5fbe52fa [LTO] Fix the interaction between linker redefined symbols and ThinLTO
This is the same as r304719 but for ThinLTO.
The substantial difference is that in this case we don't have
whole visibility, just the summary.
In the LTO case, when we got the resolution for the input file we
could just see if the linker told us whether a symbol was linker
redefined (using --wrap or --defsym) and switch the linkage directly
for the GV.

Here, we have the summary. So, we record that the linkage changed
from <whatever it was> to $weakany to prevent IPOs across this symbol
boundaries and actually just switch the linkage at FunctionImport time.

This patch should also fixes the lld bits (as all the scaffolding for
communicating if a symbol is linker redefined should be there & should
be the same), but I'll make sure to add some tests there as well.

Teresa Johnson b247ffbaed [LTO] Remove values from non-prevailing comdats
Summary:
When linking a regular LTO module, if it has any non-prevailing values
(dropped to available_externally) in comdats, we need to do more than
just remove those values from their comdat. We also remove all values
from that comdat, so as to avoid leaving an incomplete comdat.

This is necessary in case we are compiling in mixed regular and ThinLTO
mode, since the resulting regularLTO native object is always linked into
the final binary first. We need to prevent the linker from selecting an
incomplete comdat that was not the prevailing copy.

Peter Collingbourne dbd2fed6a1 Apply summary-based dead stripping to regular LTO modules with summaries.
If a regular LTO module has a summary index, then instead of linking
it into the combined regular LTO module right away, add it to the
combined summary index and associate it with a special module that
represents the combined regular LTO module.

Any such modules are linked during LTO::run(), at which time we use
the results of summary-based dead stripping to control whether to
link prevailing symbols.
