C++ vtables, fixing a record layout problem in the
expression parser.
Also fixed various problems with the generation
and unpacking of llvm.zip given our new better
handling of multiple architectures in the LLVM
build.
(And added a log message that will hopefully catch
record layout problems in the future.)
llvm-svn: 143741
- If you download and build the sources in the Xcode project, x86_64 builds
by default using the "llvm.zip" checkpointed LLVM.
- If you delete the "lldb/llvm.zip" and the "lldb/llvm" folder, and build the
Xcode project will download the right LLVM sources and build them from
scratch
- If you have a "lldb/llvm" folder already that contains a "lldb/llvm/lib"
directory, we will use the sources you have placed in the LLDB directory.
Python can now be disabled for platforms that don't support it.
Changed the way the libllvmclang.a files get used. They now all get built into
arch specific directories and never get merged into universal binaries as this
was causing issues where you would have to go and delete the file if you wanted
to build an extra architecture slice.
llvm-svn: 143678
watchpoint modify -c 'global==5'
modifies the last created watchpoint so that the condition expression
is evaluated at the stop point to decide whether we should proceed with
the stopping.
Also add SBWatchpont::SetCondition(const char *condition) to set condition
programmatically.
Test cases to come later.
llvm-svn: 142227
out the latest LLDB, LLVM and Clang and makes sure
they work okay together. The buildbot is currently
Mac OS X only because it uses xcodebuild.
Right now, the portion that runs the LLDB test
suite is commented out because of code-signing
problems (specifically, on Mac OS 10.7 a UI dialog
appears asking for the user's permission to attach
to the inferior process).
You can use the buildbot like this:
./scripts/buildbot.py -b /tmp/lldb-build -l /tmp/lldb.log
/tmp/lldb-build and /tmp/lldb.log should not exist
when the script is run.
/tmp/lldb-build is a temporary directory and is
removed at the end of a normal execution.
/tmp/lldb.log is a log file that sticks around.
The buildbot does not require built versions of anything;
it will do the building itself.
llvm-svn: 142006
a watchpoint for either the variable encapsulated by SBValue (Watch) or the pointee
encapsulated by SBValue (WatchPointee).
Removed SBFrame::WatchValue() and SBFrame::WatchLocation() API as a result of that.
Modified the watchpoint related test suite to reflect the change.
Plus replacing WatchpointLocation with Watchpoint throughout the code base.
There are still cleanups to be dome. This patch passes the whole test suite.
Check it in so that we aggressively catch regressions.
llvm-svn: 141925
This involved minor changes to the way we report Objective-C
methods, as well as cosmetic changes and added parameters
for a variety of Clang APIs.
llvm-svn: 141437
symbol context that represents an inlined function. This function has been
renamed internally to:
bool
SymbolContext::GetParentOfInlinedScope (const Address &curr_frame_pc,
SymbolContext &next_frame_sc,
Address &next_frame_pc) const;
And externally to:
SBSymbolContext
SBSymbolContext::GetParentOfInlinedScope (const SBAddress &curr_frame_pc,
SBAddress &parent_frame_addr) const;
The correct blocks are now correctly calculated.
Switched the stack backtracing engine (in StackFrameList) and the address
context printing over to using the internal SymbolContext::GetParentOfInlinedScope(...)
so all inlined callstacks will match exactly.

the lldb module. And the symbol_iter() function becomes a method within the SBModule
called symbol_in_section_iter(). Example:

Also add rich comparison methods (__eq__ and __ne__) for SBWatchpointLocation.
Modify TestWatchpointLocationIter.py to exercise the new APIs.
Add fuzz testings for the recently added SBTarget APIs related to watchpoint manipulations.
llvm-svn: 140633
to the Python interface.
Implement yet another (threre're 3 now) iterator protocol for SBTarget: watchpoint_location_iter(),
to iterate on the available watchpoint locations. And add a print representation for
SBWatchpointLocation.
Exercise some of these Python API with TestWatchpointLocationIter.py.
llvm-svn: 140595
symbolication. Also improved the SBInstruction API to allow
access to the instruction opcode name, mnemonics, comment and
instruction data.
Added the ability to edit SBLineEntry objects (change the file,
line and column), and also allow SBSymbolContext objects to be
modified (set module, comp unit, function, block, line entry
or symbol).
The SymbolContext and SBSymbolContext can now generate inlined
call stack infomration for symbolication much easier using the
SymbolContext::GetParentInlinedFrameInfo(...) and
SBSymbolContext::GetParentInlinedFrameInfo(...) methods.
llvm-svn: 140518
contents starting at an offset (2 separate methods). This helps
the scripting interface stay more natural by allowing both from
Python.
Added the ability to dump data with address annotations when
call SBData::GetDescription().
Hooked up the SBSection to the __repr__ so you can print section
objects from within python.
Improved the dumping of symbols from python.
Fixed the .i interface references which were set to "Relative to this Group"
which somehow included Jim's "lldb-clean" root directory in the path. The
interfaces are now in a folder called "interfaces" withing the Xcode API
subfolder.
llvm-svn: 140451
SBModule supports an additional SBSection iteration, besides the original SBSymbol iteration.
Add docstrings and implement the two SBSection iteration protocols.
llvm-svn: 140449
- New SBSection objects that are object file sections which can be accessed
through the SBModule classes. You can get the number of sections, get a
section at index, and find a section by name.
- SBSections can contain subsections (first find "__TEXT" on darwin, then
us the resulting SBSection to find "__text" sub section).
- Set load addresses for a SBSection in the SBTarget interface
- Set the load addresses of all SBSection in a SBModule in the SBTarget interface
- Add a new module the an existing target in the SBTarget interface
- Get a SBSection from a SBAddress object
This should get us a lot closer to being able to symbolicate using LLDB through
the public API.
llvm-svn: 140437
set a watchpoint Pythonically. If the find-and-watch-a-variable operation
fails, an invalid SBValue is returned, instead.
Example Python usage:
value = frame0.WatchValue('global',
lldb.eValueTypeVariableGlobal,
lldb.LLDB_WATCH_TYPE_READ|lldb.LLDB_WATCH_TYPE_WRITE)
Add TestSetWatchpoint.py to exercise this API.
We have 400 test cases now.
llvm-svn: 140436
etc to specific source files.
Added SB API's to specify these source files & also more than one module.
Added an "exact" option to CompileUnit's FindLineEntry API.
llvm-svn: 140362
Fix the RegularExpression class so it has a real copy constructor.
Fix the breakpoint setting with multiple shared libraries so it makes
one breakpoint not one per shared library.
Add SBFileSpecList, to be used to expose the above to the SB interface (not done yet.)
llvm-svn: 140225
Fixed up many API calls to not be "const" as const doesn't mean anything to
most of our lldb::SB objects since they contain a shared pointer, auto_ptr, or
pointer to the types which circumvent the constness anyway.
llvm-svn: 139428
- introduced two new classes ValueObjectConstResultChild and ValueObjectConstResultImpl: the first one is a ValueObjectChild obtained from
a ValueObjectConstResult, the second is a common implementation backend for VOCR and VOCRCh of method calls meant to read through pointers stored
in frozen objects ; now such reads transparently move from host to target as required
- as a consequence of the above, removed code that made target-memory copies of expression results in several places throughout LLDB, and also
removed code that enabled to recognize an expression result VO as such
- introduced a new GetPointeeData() method in ValueObject that lets you read a given amount of objects of type T from a VO
representing a T* or T[], and doing dereferences transparently
in private layer it returns a DataExtractor ; in public layer it returns an instance of a newly created lldb::SBData
- as GetPointeeData() does the right thing for both frozen and non-frozen ValueObject's, reimplemented ReadPointedString() to use it
en lieu of doing the raw read itself
- introduced a new GetData() method in ValueObject that lets you get a copy of the data that backs the ValueObject (for pointers,
this returns the address without any previous dereferencing steps ; for arrays it actually reads the whole chunk of memory)
in public layer this returns an SBData, just like GetPointeeData()
- introduced a new CreateValueFromData() method in SBValue that lets you create a new SBValue from a chunk of data wrapped in an SBData
the limitation to remember for this kind of SBValue is that they have no address: extracting the address-of for these objects (with any
of GetAddress(), GetLoadAddress() and AddressOf()) will return invalid values
- added several tests to check that "p"-ing objects (STL classes, char* and char[]) will do the right thing
Solved a bug where global pointers to global variables were not dereferenced correctly for display
New target setting "max-string-summary-length" gives the maximum number of characters to show in a string when summarizing it, instead of the hardcoded 128
Solved a bug where the summary for char[] and char* would not be shown if the ValueObject's were dumped via the "p" command
Removed m_pointers_point_to_load_addrs from ValueObject. Introduced a new m_address_type_of_children, which each ValueObject can set to tell the address type
of any pointers and/or references it creates. In the current codebase, this is load address most of the time (the only notable exception being file
addresses that generate file address children UNLESS we have a live process)
Updated help text for summary-string
Fixed an issue in STL formatters where std::stlcontainer::iterator would match the container's synthetic children providers
Edited the syntax and help for some commands to have proper argument types
llvm-svn: 139160
rolled back, and the testcase that the rollback
broke.
The new LLVM has a new ARM disassembler, which
may cause instability. Keeping the old one would
force us into a contorted position vis-a-vis the
LLVM sources we bring in, so we will address
issues on the new one rather than keeping the old
one around.
llvm-svn: 138284
If you have a Python module foo, in order to use its contained objects in LLDB you do not need to use
'from foo import *'. You can use 'import foo', and then refer to items in foo as 'foo.bar', and LLDB
will know how to resolve bar as a member of foo.
Accordingly, GNU libstdc++ formatters have been moved from the global namespace to gnu_libstdcpp and a few
test cases are also updated to reflect the new convention. Python docs suggest using a plain 'import' en lieu of
'from-import'.
llvm-svn: 138244
revision and adding a patch that fixes an AsmParser
crash on ARM.
One feature that we unfortunately lost (for the
moment!) is the ability to cast unknown code symbols
to arbitrary function types and put the resulting
function pointer in a result variable. This feature
will be back, though.
llvm-svn: 138036
LLVM to pull in the older ARM disassembler. I
also modified our build scripts to support
building LLVM from one SVN revision and Clang
from another.
These are temporary measures; as soon as we
get some solid testing in with the new ARM
disassembler, we plan to switch right back.
llvm-svn: 137965
- all instances of "vobj" have been renamed to "valobj"
- class Debugger::Formatting has been renamed to DataVisualization (defined in FormatManager.h/cpp)
The interface to this class has not changed
- FormatCategory now uses ConstString's as keys to the navigators instead of repeatedly casting
from ConstString to const char* and back all the time
Next step is making the same happen for categories themselves
- category gnu-libstdc++ is defined in the constructor for a FormatManager
The source code for it is defined in gnu_libstdcpp.py, drawn from examples/synthetic at compile time
All references to previous 'osxcpp' name have been removed from both code and file names
Functional changes:
- the name of the option to use a summary string for 'type summary add' has changed from the previous --format-string
to the new --summary-string. It is expected that the short option will change from -f to -s, and -s for --python-script
will become -o
llvm-svn: 137886
The category is enabled by default. If you run into issues with it, disable it and the previous behavior of LLDB is restored
** This is a temporary solution. The general solution to having formatters pulled in at startup should involve going through the Platform.
Fixed an issue in type synthetic list where a category with synthetic providers in it was not shown if all the providers were regex-based
llvm-svn: 137850
- They now have an SBCommandReturnObject instead of an SBStream as third argument
- The class CommandObjectPythonFunction has been merged into CommandObjectCommands.cpp
- The command to manage them is now:
command script with subcommands add, list, delete, clear
command alias is returned to its previous functionality
- Python commands are now part of an user dictionary, instead of being seen as aliases
llvm-svn: 137785
It is now possible to use 'command alias --python' to define a command name that actually triggers execution of a Python function
(e.g. command alias --python foo foo_impl makes a command named 'foo' that runs Python function 'foo_impl')
The Python function foo_impl should have as signature: def foo_impl(debugger, args, stream, dict): where
debugger is an object wrapping an LLDB SBDebugger
args is the command line arguments, as an unparsed Python string
stream is an SBStream that represents the standard output
dict is an internal utility parameter and should be left untouched
The function should return None on no error, or an error string to describe any problems
llvm-svn: 137722
problem in which the following cast:
–
expr (int (*)(const char*, ...))printf
-
caused a crash. This had several causes:
- First, Clang did not support implicit
casts of a function of unknown type to
a function pointer.
- Second, after this was fixed, the
Clang AST importer did not support
importing function pointer types
produced by resolving these casts.
These two problems are now resolved, and
I have added a test case to verify that
they work. I also did a little bit of
build-system cleanup because we now use
libEnhancedDisassembly.a instead of the
.dylib.
llvm-svn: 137338
Add code to test case to create an evil linked list with:
task_evil -> task_2 -> task_3 -> task_evil ...
and to check that the linked list iterator only iterates 3 times.
llvm-svn: 137291
where an empty linked list is represented as a value object with a NULL value, instead of a special value
object which 'points' to NULL.
Also modifies the test case to comply.
rdar://problem/9933692
llvm-svn: 137289
Add the rich comparison methods (__eq__, __ne__) to SBType, too.
o lldbtest.py:
Add debug utility method TestBase.DebugSBType().
o test/python_api/type:
Add tests for exercising SBType/SBTypeList API, including the SBTarget.FindTypes(type_name)
API which returns a SBTypeList matching the type_name.
llvm-svn: 136975
This patch takes some time because the old Python constructor pattern was not a valid one,
and breaks with SBTypeList's __init__ signature. Oops.
llvm-svn: 136958
The synthetic children providers now use the new (safer) APIs to get the values of objects
As a side effect, fixed an issue in ValueObject where ResolveValue() was not always updating the value before reading it
llvm-svn: 136861
the SBType implementation classes.
Fixed LLDB core and the test suite to not use deprecated SBValue APIs.
Added a few new APIs to SBValue:
int64_t
SBValue::GetValueAsSigned(int64_t fail_value=0);
uint64_t
SBValue::GetValueAsUnsigned(uint64_t fail_value=0)
llvm-svn: 136829
completes the support in the LLDB expression parser
for incomplete types. Clang now imports types
lazily, and we complete those types as necessary.
Changes include:
- ClangASTSource now supports three APIs which it
passes to ClangExpressionDeclMap. CompleteType
completes a TagDecl or an ObjCInterfaceDecl when
needed; FindExternalVisibleDecls finds named
entities that are visible in the expression's
scope; and FindExternalLexicalDecls performs a
(potentially restricted) search for entities
inside a lexical scope like a namespace. These
changes mean that entities in namespaces should
work normally.
- The SymbolFileDWARF code for searching a context
for a specific name is now more general, and can
search arbitrary contexts.
- We are continuing to adapt our calls into LLVM
from interfaces that take start and end iterators
when accepting multiple items to interfaces that
use ArrayRef.
- I have cleaned up some code, especially our use
of namespaces.
This change is neutral for our testsuite and greatly
improves correctness for large programs (like Clang)
with complicated type systems. It should also lay
the groundwork for improving the expression parser's
performance as we are lazier and lazier about
providing type information.
llvm-svn: 136555
- Completely new implementation of SBType
- Various enhancements in several other classes
Python synthetic children providers for std::vector<T>, std::list<T> and std::map<K,V>:
- these return the actual elements into the container as the children of the container
- basic template name parsing that works (hopefully) on both Clang and GCC
- find them in examples/synthetic and in the test suite in functionalities/data-formatter/data-formatter-python-synth
New summary string token ${svar :
- the syntax is just the same as in ${var but this new token lets you read the values
coming from the synthetic children provider instead of the actual children
- Python providers above provide a synthetic child len that returns the number of elements
into the container
Full bug fix for the issue in which getting byte size for a non-complete type would crash LLDB
Several other fixes, including:
- inverted the order of arguments in the ClangASTType constructor
- EvaluationPoint now only returns SharedPointer's to Target and Process
- the help text for several type subcommands now correctly indicates argument-less options as such
llvm-svn: 136504
end of list test function as __eol_test__.
The simple example can be reduced to:

print t
Modify the test program to exercise the API for both cases: supplying or not
supplying an end of list test function.
llvm-svn: 136144
too complex in the test case. We can just simply test that the SBValue object
is a valid object and it does not correspond to a null pointer in order to say
that EOL has not been reached.
Modify the test case and the lldb.py docstring to have a more compact test
function.
llvm-svn: 136123
for child in value:
# do something with the child value

for task in task_head.linked_list_iter('next', eol_test):
# visit each item in the linked list
llvm-svn: 136015
to iterate through an SBValue instance by treating it as the head of a linked
list. API program must provide two args to the linked_list_iter() method:
the first being the child member name which points to the next item on the list
and the second being a Python function which an SBValue (for the next item) and
returns True if end of list is reached, otherwise it returns False.
For example, suppose we have the following sample program.
#include <stdio.h>
class Task {
public:
int id;
Task *next;
Task(int i, Task *n):
id(i),
next(n)
{}
};
int main (int argc, char const *argv[])
{
Task *task_head = new Task(-1, NULL);
Task *task1 = new Task(1, NULL);
Task *task2 = new Task(2, NULL);
Task *task3 = new Task(3, NULL); // Orphaned.
Task *task4 = new Task(4, NULL);
Task *task5 = new Task(5, NULL);
task_head->next = task1;
task1->next = task2;
task2->next = task4;
task4->next = task5;
int total = 0; // Break at this line
Task *t = task_head;
while (t != NULL) {
if (t->id >= 0)
++total;
t = t->next;
}
printf("We have a total number of %d tasks\n", total);
return 0;
}
The test program produces the following output while exercising the linked_list_iter() SBVAlue API:
task_head:
TypeName -> Task *
ByteSize -> 8
NumChildren -> 2
Value -> 0x0000000106400380

- you can now define a Python class as a synthetic children producer for a type
the class must adhere to this "interface":
def __init__(self, valobj, dict):
def get_child_at_index(self, index):
def get_child_index(self, name):
then using type synth add -l className typeName
(e.g. type synth add -l fooSynthProvider foo)
(This is still WIP with lots to be added)
A small test case is available also as reference

API.
SBTarget changes include changing:
bool
SBTarget::ResolveLoadAddress (lldb::addr_t vm_addr,
lldb::SBAddress& addr);
to be:
lldb::SBAddress
SBTarget::ResolveLoadAddress (lldb::addr_t vm_addr);
SBAddress can how contruct itself using a load address and a target
which can be used to resolve the address:
SBAddress (lldb::addr_t load_addr, lldb::SBTarget &target);
This will actually just call the new SetLoadAddress accessor:
void
SetLoadAddress (lldb::addr_t load_addr,
lldb::SBTarget &target);
This function will always succeed in making a SBAddress object
that can be used in API calls (even if "target" isn't valid).
If "target" is valid and there are sections currently loaded,
then it will resolve the address to a section offset address if
it can. Else an address with a NULL section and an offset that is
the "load_addr" that was passed in. We do this because a load address
might be from the heap or stack.
llvm-svn: 135770
of the duty of having SWIG docstring features and multiline string literals
embedded within.
lldb.swig now %include .../SBTarget.i, instead of .../SBTarget.h. Will create

Also update modify-python-lldb.py to better handle the trailing blank line right
before the ending '"""' Python docstring delimiter.
llvm-svn: 135355
- you can use a Python script to write a summary string for data-types, in one of
three ways:
-P option and typing the script a line at a time
-s option and passing a one-line Python script
-F option and passing the name of a Python function
these options all work for the "type summary add" command
your Python code (if provided through -P or -s) is wrapped in a function
that accepts two parameters: valobj (a ValueObject) and dict (an LLDB
internal dictionary object). if you use -F and give a function name,
you're expected to define the function on your own and with the right
prototype. your function, however defined, must return a Python string
- test case for the Python summary feature
- a few quirks:
Python summaries cannot have names, and cannot use regex as type names
both issues will be fixed ASAP
major redesign of type summary code:
- type summary working with strings and type summary working with Python code
are two classes, with a common base class SummaryFormat
- SummaryFormat classes now are able to actively format objects rather than
just aggregating data
- cleaner code to print descriptions for summaries
the public API now exports a method to easily navigate a ValueObject hierarchy
New InputReaderEZ and PriorityPointerPair classes
Several minor fixes and improvements
llvm-svn: 135238
Add logic to modify-python-lldb to correct swig's transformation of 'char **argv' and 'char **envp'
to 'char argv' and 'char envp' by morphing them into the 'list argv' and 'list envp' (as a list of
Python strings).
llvm-svn: 135114
Add a usage example of SBEvent APIs.
o SBEvent.h and SBListener.h:
Add method docstrings for SBEvent.h and SBListener.h, and example usage of SBEvent into
the class docstring of SBEvent.
o lldb.swig:
Add typemap for SBEvent::SBEvent (uint32_t event, const char *cstr, uint32_t cstr_len)
so that we can use, in Python, obj2 = lldb.SBEvent(0, "abc") to create an SBEvent.
llvm-svn: 134766
A few of the auto-generated method docstrings don't look right, and may need to be fixed
by either overwriting the auto-gened docstrings or some post-processing steps.
llvm-svn: 134246
Previously the IsValid pattern matched only function signatures of
the form:
def IsValid(*args): ...
However under SWIG 1.3.40 on Linux the signature reads:
def IsValid(self): ...
The new pattern matches both signature types by matching only up to
the left paren.
llvm-svn: 132968
If two SBAddress's have the same module and file address, they are considered equal.
Add a test snippet 'sa1 == sa2' to exercise the rich comparison methods for SBAddress.
llvm-svn: 132807
- The Swig post-processing scripts are now run.
- edit-swig-python-wrapper-file.py has been modified so it can be run
from the Makefile.
- The issue that prompted me to pass -classic to swig is fixed by this,
so -classic isn't passed anymore.
Python shouldn't complain anymore about a missing method 'FindDebuggerByID'
on the SBDebugger object whenever lldb is run.
llvm-svn: 132383
method definition before other method definitions. Instead, do without it and process
the class with IsValid() method definition in all possible states.
llvm-svn: 132016
into the mainline LLDB codebase. MCJIT introduces
API improvements and better architectural support.
This commit adds a new subsystem, the
ProcessDataAllocator, which is responsible for
performing static data allocations on behalf of the
IR transformer. MCJIT currently does not support
the relocations required to store the constant pool
in the same allocation as the function body, so we
allocate a heap region separately and redirect
static data references from the expression to that
heap region in a new IR modification pass.
This patch also fixes bugs in the IR
transformations that were exposed by the transition
to the MCJIT. Finally, the patch also pulls in a
more recent revision of LLVM so that the MCJIT is
available for use.
llvm-svn: 131923
the "payload_length" argument for the "payload" packet data. This meant we
could end up sending random extra data with a packet depending on how the
packet was constructed.
Fixed GDBRemoteRegisterContext to properly save and restore all registers.
Previous fixes had been added to work around the "payload_length" issues fixed
above and aren't needed anymore.
Fix logging in GDBRemoteCommunication to make sure we log the correct packet
data being sent by using the packet length when dumping the packet contents.
Added register definitions for 'arm-lldb' in the "disasm-gdb-remote.pl" script
so if you have a register dump from the GDB remote that doesn't include the
qRegisterInfo packets, you can manually tell the script which registers are
which.
llvm-svn: 131715
packet output from "log enable gdb-remote packets". This should help people
track down and see what is going wrong more easily when you have log output
that includes GDB remote packets.
llvm-svn: 131713
object.__nonzero__(self) is called to implement truth value testing and the built-in operation bool(),
via a simple delegation to self.IsValid().
Change tests under python_api/lldbutil to utilize this mechanism.
llvm-svn: 131494
unambiguous iteration support. So that we could, for example:
...
REGs = lldbutil.get_GPRs(frame)
print "Number of general purpose registers: %d" % len(REGs)
for reg in REGs:
print "%s => %s" %(reg.GetName(), reg.GetValue())
...
llvm-svn: 131418
the breakpoint ID and provides the semantics needed for '==' and '!='. And
modify LLDBIteratorTestCase.lldb_iter_2() to use '==' between two SBBreakpoint's.
llvm-svn: 130531
This is so that the objects which support the iteration protocol are immediately obvious
from looking at the lldb.py file.
SBTarget supports two types of iterations: module and breakpoint. For an SBTarget instance,
you will need to issue either:
for m in target.module_iter()
or
for b in target.breakpoint_iter()
For other single iteration protocol objects, just use, for example:
for thread in process:
ID = thread.GetThreadID()
for frame in thread:
frame.Disassemble()
....
llvm-svn: 130442
i.e., with 'SBStream &description' first, followed by 'DescriptionLevel level'.
Modify lldbutil.py so that get_description() for a target or breakpoint location
can just take the lldb object itself without specifying an option to mean option
lldb.eDescriptionLevelBrief. Modify TestTargetAPI.py to exercise this logic path.
llvm-svn: 130147
set by default when dumping registers. If you want to see all of the register
sets you can use the "--all" option:
(lldb) register read --all
If you want to just see some register sets, you can currently specify them
by index:
(lldb) register read --set 0 --set 2
We need to get shorter register set names soon so we can specify the register
sets by name without having to type too much. I will make this change soon.
You can also have any integer encoded registers resolve the address values
back to any code or data from the object files using the "--lookup" option.
Below is sample output when stopped in the libc function "puts" with some
const strings in registers:
Process 8973 stopped
* thread #1: tid = 0x2c03, 0x00007fff828fa30f libSystem.B.dylib`puts + 1, stop reason = instruction step into
frame #0: 0x00007fff828fa30f libSystem.B.dylib`puts + 1
(lldb) register read --lookup
General Purpose Registers:
rax = 0x0000000100000e98 "----------------------------------------------------------------------"
rbx = 0x0000000000000000
rcx = 0x0000000000000001
rdx = 0x0000000000000000
rdi = 0x0000000100000e98 "----------------------------------------------------------------------"
rsi = 0x0000000100800000
rbp = 0x00007fff5fbff710
rsp = 0x00007fff5fbff280
r8 = 0x0000000000000040
r9 = 0x0000000000000000
r10 = 0x0000000000000000
r11 = 0x0000000000000246
r12 = 0x0000000000000000
r13 = 0x0000000000000000
r14 = 0x0000000000000000
r15 = 0x0000000000000000
rip = 0x00007fff828fa30f libSystem.B.dylib`puts + 1
rflags = 0x0000000000000246
cs = 0x0000000000000027
fs = 0x0000000000000000
gs = 0x0000000000000000
As we can see, we see two constant strings and the PC (register "rip") is
showing the code it resolves to.
I fixed the register "--format" option to work as expected.
Added a setting to disable skipping the function prologue when setting
breakpoints as a target settings variable:
(lldb) settings set target.skip-prologue false
Updated the user settings controller boolean value handler funciton to be able
to take the default value so it can correctly respond to the eVarSetOperationClear
operation.
Did some usability work on the OptionValue classes.
Fixed the "image lookup" command to correctly respond to the "--verbose"
option and display the detailed symbol context information when looking up
line table entries and functions by name. This previously was only working
for address lookups.
llvm-svn: 129977
This allows you to have a platform selected, then specify a triple using
"i386" and have the remaining triple items (vendor, os, and environment) set
automatically.
Many interpreter commands take the "--arch" option to specify an architecture
triple, so now the command options needed to be able to get to the current
platform, so the Options class now take a reference to the interpreter on
construction.
Modified the build LLVM building in the Xcode project to use the new
Xcode project level user definitions:
LLVM_BUILD_DIR - a path to the llvm build directory
LLVM_SOURCE_DIR - a path to the llvm sources for the llvm that will be used to build lldb
LLVM_CONFIGURATION - the configuration that lldb is built for (Release,
Release+Asserts, Debug, Debug+Asserts).
I also changed the LLVM build to not check if "lldb/llvm" is a symlink and
then assume it is a real llvm build directory versus the unzipped llvm.zip
package, so now you can actually have a "lldb/llvm" directory in your lldb
sources.
llvm-svn: 129112
public types and public enums. This was done to keep the SWIG stuff from
parsing all sorts of enums and types that weren't needed, and allows us to
abstract our API better.
llvm-svn: 128239
The makefile build uses scripts/generate-vers.pl to build an appropriate
LLDB_vers.c file. The declarations for these symbols now carry a liblldb_core
prefix so update the script to generate the correct names.
llvm-svn: 128135
overlap in the SWIG integration which has now been fixed by introducing
callbacks for initializing SWIG for each language (python only right now).
There was also a breakpoint command callback that called into SWIG which has
been abtracted into a callback to avoid cross over as well.
Added a new binary: lldb-platform
This will be the start of the remote platform that will use as much of the
Host functionality to do its job so it should just work on all platforms.
It is pretty hollowed out for now, but soon it will implement a platform
using the GDB remote packets as the transport.
llvm-svn: 128053
Currently it has only test cases for SBThread.GetStopDescription() API.
Also modified lldb.swig to add typemap for (char *dst, size_t dst_len)
which occurs for SBThread::GetStopDescription() C++ API. For Python
scripting:
# Due to the typemap magic (see lldb.swig), we pass in an (int)length to GetStopDescription
# and expect to get a Python string as the result object!
# The 100 is just an arbitrary number specifying the buffer size.
stop_description = thread.GetStopDescription(100)
llvm-svn: 127173
the SBProcess.ReadMemory() API, which, due to SWIG typemap'ing, expects 3 arguments (the location
to read from, the size in bytes to read, and an SBError object), and returns the result as a
Python string object.
On SnowLeopard where this has been tested, the SWIG script needs to be pampered (use the exact
same parameter names as in SBProcess.h) in order for this to work.
llvm-svn: 126736
Anytime we had a valid python list that was trying to go from Python down into
our C++ API, it was allocating too little memory and it ended up smashing
whatever was next to the allocated memory.
Added typemap conversions for "void *, size_t" so we can get
SBProcess::ReadMemory() working. Also added a typemap for "const void *, size_t"
so we can get SBProcess::WriteMemory() to work.
Fixed an issue in the DWARF parser where we weren't correctly calculating the
DeclContext for all types and classes. We now should be a lot more accurate.
Fixes include: enums should now be setting their parent decl context correctly.
We saw a lot of examples where enums in classes were not being properly
namespace scoped. Also, classes within classes now get properly scoped.
Fixed the objective C runtime pointer checkers to let "nil" pointers through
since these are accepted by compiled code. We also now don't call "abort()"
when a pointer doesn't validate correctly since this was wreaking havoc on
the process due to the way abort() works. We now just dereference memory
which should give us an exception from which we can easily and reliably
recover.
llvm-svn: 123428
exist within the same process (one script interpreter object per debugger object). The
python script interpreter objects are all using the same global Python script interpreter;
they use separate dictionaries to keep their data separate, and mutex's to prevent any object
attempting to use the global Python interpreter when another object is already using it.
llvm-svn: 123415
very minor changes, changing how we get the target
type from a TypedefType, adding a parameter to
EnumDecl::Create(), and other minor tweaks.
llvm-svn: 121663
version); change include statements to use Python.h in the Python framework
on Mac OS X systems; leave it using regular Python.h on other systems.
Note: I think this *ought* to work properly on Linux systems, but I don't have
a system to test it on...
llvm-svn: 117612
it logs the function calls, their arguments and the return values. This is not
complete or polished, but I am committing it now, at the request of someone who
really wants to use it, even though it's not really done. It currently does not
attempt to log all the functions, just the most important ones. I will be
making further adjustments to the API logging code over the next few days/weeks.
(Suggestions for improvements are welcome).
Update the Python build scripts to re-build the swig C++ file whenever
the python-extensions.swig file is modified.
Correct the help for 'log enable' command (give it the correct number & type of
arguments).
llvm-svn: 117349
Inside the lldb module, there's no need (and as a matter of fact, incorrect) to specify the 'lldb'
module name.
Comment out the call to lldb.SBDebugger.Initialize() within the test driver itself, since it is
already done when we import the lldb.py module.
llvm-svn: 116485
function. It will inspect NAME and do the following:
- if the name contains '(' or starts with "-[" or "+[" then a full name search
will happen to match full function names with args (C++ demangled names) or
full objective C method prototypes.
- if the name contains "::" and no '(', then it is assumed to be a qualified
function name that is in a namespace or class. For "foo::bar::baz" we will
search for any functions with the basename or method name of "baz", then
filter the results to only those that contain "foo::bar::baz". This allows
setting breakpoint on C++ functions and methods without having to fully
qualify all of the types that would appear in C++ mangled names.
- if the name contains ":" (not "::"), then NAME is assumed to be an ObjC
selector.
_ otherwise, we assume just a plain function basename.
Now that "--name" is our "auto" mode, I introduced the new "--basename" option
("breakpoint set --basename NAME") to allow for function names that aren't
methods or selectors, just basenames. This can also be used to ignore C++
namespaces and class hierarchies for class methods.
Fixed clang enumeration promotion types to be correct.
llvm-svn: 116293
ScriptInterpreterPython class and made a simple callback function that
ScriptInterpreterPython::BreakpointCallbackFunction() now calls so we don't
include any internal API stuff into the cpp file that is generated by SWIG.
Fixed a few build warnings in debugserver.
llvm-svn: 115926
tricks to get types to resolve. I did this by correctly including the correct
files: stdint.h and all lldb-*.h files first before including the API files.
This allowed me to remove all of the hacks that were in the lldb.swig file
and it also allows all of the #defines in lldb-defines.h and enumerations
in lldb-enumerations.h to appear in the lldb.py module. This will make the
python script code a lot more readable.
Cleaned up the "process launch" command to not execute a "process continue"
command, it now just does what it should have with the internal API calls
instead of executing another command line command.
Made the lldb_private::Process set the state to launching and attaching if
WillLaunch/WillAttach return no error respectively.
llvm-svn: 115902
Temporarily commenting out the deprecated LaunchProcess() method.
SWIG is not able to handle the overloaded functions.
o dotest.py/lldbtest.py:
Add an '-w' option to insert some wait time between consecutive test cases.
o TestClassTypes.py:
Make the breakpoint_creation_by_filespec_python() test method more robust and
more descriptive by printing out a more insightful assert message.
o lldb.swig: Coaches swig to treat StateType as an int type, instead of a C++ class.
llvm-svn: 115899
This gets us the new clang::CXXRecordDecl improvments in clang so that when we
add fields, methods and other things to the clang::CXXRecordDecl, the correct
bits are automatically set by clang::CXXRecordDecl itself instead of having
SEMA and our lldb_private::ClangASTContext functions that create types for
DWARF do it all manually. This allows the clang::ASTContext deep copying of
types to work correctly and it means that the expression parser can now
evaluate expressions in the context of a class method correctly. Previously
when a class was copied from the DWARF generated ASTContext over into the
expression ASTContext, we were losing CXXRecordDecl bits in the conversion
which caused all classes to think they were at offset zero because the the
bools for empty, POD, and others would end up being incorrect.
llvm-svn: 115023
an auto-generated Python function, and pass the stoppoint context frame and
breakpoint location as parameters to the function (named 'frame' and 'bp_loc'),
to be used inside the breakpoint command Python code, if desired.
llvm-svn: 114849
- Sema is now exported (and there was much rejoicing.)
- Storage classes are now centrally defined.
Also fixed some bugs that the new LLVM picked up.
llvm-svn: 114622
into python-extensions.swig, which gets included into lldb.swig, and
adds them back into the classes when swig generates it's C++ file. This
keeps the Python stuff out of the general API classes.
Also fixed a small bug in the copy constructor for SBSymbolContext.
llvm-svn: 114602
o Fixed a crasher when getting it via SBTarget.GetExecutable().
>>> filespec = target.GetExecutable()
Segmentation fault
o And renamed SBFileSpec::GetFileName() to GetFilename() to be consistent with FileSpec::GetFilename().
llvm-svn: 112308
with the only exception of launching the process from SBTarget which is under
investigation.
o build-swig-Python.sh should also checks the timestamp of ${swig_input_file}
for update eligibility. Also, once an update is in order, there's no need
to check the remaining header files for timestamps.
o Coaches swig to treat StopReason as an int type, instead of a C++ class.
llvm-svn: 112210
involved watching for the objective C built-in types in DWARF and making sure
when we convert the DWARF types into clang types that we use the appropriate
ASTContext types.
Added a way to find and dump types in lldb (something equivalent to gdb's
"ptype" command):
image lookup --type <TYPENAME>
This only works for looking up types by name and won't work with variables.
It also currently dumps out verbose internal information. I will modify it
to dump more appropriate user level info in my next submission.
Hookup up the "FindTypes()" functions in the SymbolFile and SymbolVendor so
we can lookup types by name in one or more images.
Fixed "image lookup --address <ADDRESS>" to be able to correctly show all
symbol context information, but it will only show this extra information when
the new "--verbose" flag is used.
Updated to latest LLVM to get a few needed fixes.
llvm-svn: 110089
Fixed the llvm build for Mac OS X builds to look in llvm/lib/Release+Asserts
output directory for all configurations (Debug, Release, BuildAndIntegration).
llvm-svn: 108289
enabled LLVM make style building and made this compile LLDB on Mac OS X. We
can now iterate on this to make the build work on both linux and macosx.
llvm-svn: 108009
Also fixed our build to define NDEBUG; code that
uses LLVM headers without NDEBUG is
binary-incompatible with libraries built with
NDEBUG.
llvm-svn: 107853
Add functions to look up debugger by id
Add global variable to lldb python module, to hold debugger id
Modify embedded Python interpreter to update the global variable with the
id of its current debugger.
Modify the char ** typemap definition in lldb.swig to accept 'None' (for NULL)
as a valid value.
The point of all this is so that, when you drop into the embedded interpreter
from the command interpreter (or when doing Python-based breakpoint commands),
there is a way for the Python side to find/get the correct debugger
instance ( by checking debugger_unique_id, then calling
SBDebugger::FindDebuggerWithID on it).
llvm-svn: 107287
other script files around, so they can be run from outside Xcode. Also,
check the current OS, and only try to use the framework structure stuff on
Darwin systems.
llvm-svn: 106132
We need to put this in LLDB since we need to vend this in our API
because our public API uses shared pointers to our private objects.
Removed a deprecated file: include/lldb/Host/Types.h
Added the new SharingPtr.cpp/.h files into source/Utility.
Added a shell script build phase that fixes up all headers in the
LLDB.framework.
llvm-svn: 105895
