Rafael Espindola 4b83cb5390 Add support for reading members out of thin archives.
For now the Archive owns the buffers of the thin archive members.
This makes for a simple API, but all the buffers are destructed
only when the archive is destructed. This should be fine since we
close the files after mmap so we should not hit an open file
limit.

JF Bastien 2a39d3a38d Revert "Fix `llvm-config` to emit the linker flag for the combined shared object built by autoconfig/make instead of the individual components."
This reverts commit 01446706b4c0a86bb64768f307079cab5c514aa3.

Chris Bieneman 8ac6d119b7 [CMake] Cleanup tools/CMakeLists.txt to take advantage of the auto-registration that was already partially working.
Summary:
This change re-lands r241621, with an additional fix that was required to allow tool sources to live outside the llvm checkout. It also no longer renames LLVM_EXTERNAL_*_SOURCE_DIR. This change was reverted in r241663, because it renamed several variables of the format LLVM_EXTERNAL_*_* to LLVM_TOOL_*_*.

Original Summary:
The tools CMakeLists file already had implicit tool registration, but there were a few things off about it that needed to be altered to make it work. This change addresses all that. The changes in this patch are:

* factored out canonicalizing tool names from paths to CMake variables * removed the LLVM_IMPLICIT_PROJECT_IGNORE mechanism in favor of LLVM_EXTERNAL_${nameUPPER}_BUILD which I renamed to LLVM_TOOL_${nameUPPER}_BUILD because it applies to internal and external tools
* removed ignore_llvm_tool_subdirectory() in favor of just setting LLVM_TOOL_${nameUPPER}_BUILD to Off
* Added create_llvm_tool_options() to resolve a bug in add_llvm_external_project() - the old LLVM_EXTERNAL_${nameUPPER}_BUILD would not work on a clean CMake directory because the option could be created after it was set in code.
* Removed all but the minimum required calls to add_llvm_external_project from tools/CMakeLists.txt

Peter Collingbourne aef3659e18 Teach LTOModule to emit linker flags for dllexported symbols, plus interface cleanup.
This change unifies how LTOModule and the backend obtain linker flags
for globals: via a new TargetLoweringObjectFile member function named
emitLinkerFlagsForGlobal. A new function LTOModule::getLinkerOpts() returns
the list of linker flags as a single concatenated string.

This change affects the C libLTO API: the function lto_module_get_*deplibs now
exposes an empty list, and lto_module_get_*linkeropts exposes a single element
which combines the contents of all observed flags. libLTO should never have
tried to parse the linker flags; it is the linker's job to do so. Because
linkers will need to be able to parse flags in regular object files, it
makes little sense for libLTO to have a redundant mechanism for doing so.

The new API is compatible with the old one. It is valid for a user to specify
multiple linker flags in a single pragma directive like this:

 #pragma comment(linker, "/defaultlib:foo /defaultlib:bar")

The previous implementation would not have exposed
either flag via lto_module_get_*deplibs (as the test in
TargetLoweringObjectFileCOFF::getDepLibFromLinkerOpt was case sensitive)
and would have exposed "/defaultlib:foo /defaultlib:bar" as a single flag via
lto_module_get_*linkeropts. This may have been a bug in the implementation,
but it does give us a chance to fix the interface.

Rafael Espindola 719dc7c436 Remove Elf_Sym_Iter.
It was a fairly broken concept for an ELF only class.

An ELF file can have two symbol tables, but they have exactly the same
format. There is no concept of a dynamic or a static symbol. Storing this
on the iterator also makes us do more work per symbol than necessary. To fetch
a name we would:

* Find if we had a static or a dynamic symbol.
* Look at the corresponding symbol table and find the string table section.
* Look at the string table section to fetch its contents.
* Compute the name as a substring of the string table.

All but the last step can be done per symbol table instead of per symbol. This
is a step in that direction.

Replace the `std::vector<>` for `DIE::Children` with an intrusively

factors out the DIE-related malloc traffic.

CHECK-NEXT: Symbol: 0x2

To just

// CHECK-NEXT:       Type: X86_64_RELOC_SUBTRACTOR (5)
// CHECK-NEXT:       Section: __data (2)

Since the relocation is with a section, we print the seciton name and don't
need to say that it is not scattered or external.

Rafael Espindola c74ac023d8 Have the ELF symbol predicates match more directly the spec.
The underlaying issues is that this code can't really know if an OS specific or
processor specific section number should return true or false.

One option would be to assert or return an error, but that looks like over
engineering since extensions are not that common.

It seems better to have these be direct implementation of the ELF spec so that
they are natural for someone familiar with ELF reading the code.

Code that does have to handle OS/Architecture specific values can do it at
a higher level.

make_error_code(object_error) is slow because object::object_category()

called too frequently. This patch uses std::error_code() instead of

With a couple more constructors that GCC thinks are necessary.

Original commit message:

[dsymutil] Accept a YAML debug map as input instead of a binary.

To do this, the user needs to pass the new -y flag.
As it wasn't tested before, the debug map YAML deserialization was
completely buggy (mainly because the DebugMapObject has a dual
mapping that allows to search by name and by address, but only the
StringMap got populated). It's fixed and tested in this commit by
augmenting some test with a 2 stage dwarf link: a frist llvm-dsymutil
reads the debug map and pipes it in a second instance that does the
actual link without touching the initial binary.

Duncan P. N. Exon Smith e7e1d0c706 Reapply "AsmPrinter: Change DIEValue to be stored by value"
This reverts commit r238350, effectively reapplying r238349 after fixing
(all?) the problems, all somehow related to how I was using
`AlignedArrayCharUnion<>` inside `DIEValue`:

  - MSVC can only handle `sizeof()` on types, not values. Change the
    assert.
  - GCC doesn't know the `is_trivially_copyable` type trait. Instead of
    asserting it, add destructors.
  - Call placement new even when constructing POD (i.e., the pointers).
  - Instead of copying the char buffer, copy the casted classes.

I've left in a couple of `static_assert`s that I think both MSVC and GCC
know how to handle. If the bots disagree with me, I'll remove them.

  - Check that the constructed type is either standard layout or a
pointer. This protects against a programming error: we really want
the "small" `DIEValue`s to be small and simple, so don't
accidentally change them not to be.
  - Similarly, check that the size of the buffer is no bigger than a
`uint64_t` or a pointer. (I thought checking against
`sizeof(uint64_t)` would be good enough, but Chandler suggested that
pointers might sometimes be bigger than that in the context of
    sanitizers.)

I've also committed r238359 in the meantime, which introduces a
DIEValue.def to simplify dispatching between the various types (thanks
to a review comment by David Blaikie). Without that, this commit would
be almost unintelligible.

Here's the original commit message:
--
Change `DIEValue` to be stored/passed/etc. by value, instead of
reference. It's now a discriminated union, with a `Val` field storing
the actual type. The classes that used to inherit from `DIEValue` no
longer do. There are two categories of these:

  - Small values fit in a single pointer and are stored by value.
  - Large values require auxiliary storage, and are stored by reference.

The only non-mechanical change is to tools/dsymutil/DwarfLinker.cpp. It
was relying on `DIEInteger`s being passed around by reference, so I
replaced that assumption with a `PatchLocation` type that stores a safe
reference to where the `DIEInteger` lives instead.

This commit causes a temporary regression in memory usage, since I've
left merging `DIEAbbrevData` into `DIEValue` for a follow-up commit. I
measured an increase from 845 MB to 879 MB, around 3.9%. The follow-up
drops it lower than the starting point, and I've only recently brought
the memory this low anyway, so I'm committing these changes separately
to keep them incremental. (I also considered swapping the commits, but
the other one first would cause a lot more code churn.)

Alex Lorenz 2bdb4e1063 Resubmit r237954 (MIR Serialization: print and parse LLVM IR using MIR format).
This commit a 3rd attempt at comitting the initial MIR serialization patch.
The first commit (r237708) was reverted in 237730. Then the second commit
(r237954) was reverted in r238007, as the MIR library under CodeGen caused
a circular dependency where the CodeGen library depended on MIR and MIR
library depended on CodeGen.

This commit has fixed the dependencies between CodeGen and MIR by
reorganizing the MIR serialization code - the code that prints out
MIR has been moved to CodeGen, and the MIR library has been renamed
to MIRParser. Now the CodeGen library doesn't depend on the
MIRParser library, thus the circular dependency no longer exists.

--Original Commit Message--

MIR Serialization: print and parse LLVM IR using MIR format.

This commit is the initial commit for the MIR serialization project.
It creates a new library under CodeGen called 'MIR'. This new
library adds a new machine function pass that prints out the LLVM IR
using the MIR format. This pass is then added as a last pass when a
'stop-after' option is used in llc. The new library adds the initial
functionality for parsing of MIR files as well. This commit also
extends the llc tool so that it can recognize and parse MIR input files.

In this patch, instead of updating global variable NoFramePointerElim in

Keno Fischer c780e8ebcc Make it easier to use DwarfContext with MCJIT
Summary:
This supersedes http://reviews.llvm.org/D4010, hopefully properly
dealing with the JIT case and also adds an actual test case.
DwarfContext was basically already usable for the JIT (and back when
we were overwriting ELF files it actually worked out of the box by
accident), but in order to resolve relocations correctly it needs
to know the load address of the section.
Rather than trying to get this out of the ObjectFile or requiring
the user to create a new ObjectFile just to get some debug info,
this adds the capability to pass in that info directly.
As part of this I separated out part of the LoadedObjectInfo struct
from RuntimeDyld, since it is now required at a higher layer.

Alex Lorenz c37baf82a9 Resubmit r237708 (MIR Serialization: print and parse LLVM IR using MIR format).
This commit is a 2nd attempt at committing the initial MIR serialization patch.
The first commit (r237708) made the incremental buildbots unstable and was
reverted in r237730. The original commit didn't add a terminating null
character to the LLVM IR source which was passed to LLParser, and this
sometimes caused the test 'llvmIR.mir' to fail with a parsing error because
the LLVM IR source didn't have a null character immediately after the end
and thus LLLexer encountered some garbage characters that ultimately caused
the error.

This commit also includes the other test fixes I committed in
r237712 (llc path fix) and r237723 (remove target triple) which
also got reverted in r237730.

Rafael Espindola 0709a7bd1a Move alignment from MCSectionData to MCSection.
This starts merging MCSection and MCSectionData.

There are a few issues with the current split between MCSection and
MCSectionData.

* It optimizes the the not as important case. We want the production
of .o files to be really fast, but the split puts the information used
for .o emission in a separate data structure.

* The ELF/COFF/MachO hierarchy is not represented in MCSectionData,
leading to some ad-hoc ways to represent the various flags.

* It makes it harder to remember where each item is.

The attached patch starts merging the two by moving the alignment from
MCSectionData to MCSection.

Most of the patch is actually just dropping 'const', since
MCSectionData is mutable, but MCSection was not.

Alexey Samsonov 7a18c06128 [DWARF parser] Make DWARF parser more robust against missing compile/type units.
DWARF standard claims that each compilation/type unit header in
.debug_info/.debug_types section must be followed by corresponding
compile/type unit DIE, possibly with its children. Two situations
are possible:

 * compile/type unit DIE is missing because DWARF producer failed to
   emit it.
 * DWARF parser failed to parse unit DIE correctly, for instance if it
contains some unsupported attributes (see r237721, for instance).

In either of these cases, the library, and the tools that use it
(llvm-dwarfdump, llvm-symbolizer) should not crash. Insert appropriate
checks to protect against this.

We've had and clang has used the use-soft-float attribute for some

For the one middle end soft float check go ahead and create

just checks the TargetSubtargetInfo in all cases.

Also remove the command line option that hard codes whether or
not soft-float is set by using the attribute for all of the

Duncan P. N. Exon Smith a9308c49ef IR: Give 'DI' prefix to debug info metadata
Finish off PR23080 by renaming the debug info IR constructs from `MD*`
to `DI*`. The last of the `DIDescriptor` classes were deleted in
r235356, and the last of the related typedefs removed in r235413, so
this has all baked for about a week.

Note: If you have out-of-tree code (like a frontend), I recommend that
you get everything compiling and tests passing with the *previous*
commit before updating to this one. It'll be easier to keep track of
what code is using the `DIDescriptor` hierarchy and what you've already
updated, and I think you're extremely unlikely to insert bugs. YMMV of
course.

Back to *this* commit: I did this using the rename-md-di-nodes.sh
upgrade script I've attached to PR23080 (both code and testcases) and
filtered through clang-format-diff.py. I edited the tests for
test/Assembler/invalid-generic-debug-node-*.ll by hand since the columns
were off-by-three. It should work on your out-of-tree testcases (and
code, if you've followed the advice in the previous paragraph).

Some of the tests are in badly named files now (e.g.,
test/Assembler/invalid-mdcompositetype-missing-tag.ll should be
'dicompositetype'); I'll come back and move the files in a follow-up
commit.

Duncan P. N. Exon Smith 5a490d0026 LTO: Add API to choose whether to embed uselists
Reverse libLTO's default behaviour for preserving use-list order in
bitcode, and add API for controlling it. The default setting is now
`false` (don't preserve them), which is consistent with `clang`'s
default behaviour.

Users of libLTO should call `lto_codegen_should_embed_uselists(CG,true)`
prior to calling `lto_codegen_write_merged_modules()` whenever the
output file isn't part of the production workflow in order to reproduce
results with subsequent calls to `llc`.

(I haven't added tests since `llvm-lto` (the test tool for LTO) doesn't
support bitcode output, and even if it did: there isn't actually a good
way to test whether a tool has passed the flag. If the order is already
"natural" (if the order will already round-trip) then no use-list
directives are emitted at all. At some point I'll circle back to add
tests to `llvm-as` (etc.) that they actually respect the flag, at which
point I can somehow add a test here as well.)

Add a flag to lib/Linker (and `llvm-link`) to override linkage rules.
When set, the functions in the source module *always* replace those in

The `llvm-link` option is `-override=abc.ll`. All the "regular" modules

is useful for debugging workflows where some subset of the module (e.g.,

JF Bastien f87e20dd87 bugpoint Enhancement.
Summary:
This patch adds two flags to `bugpoint`: "-replace-funcs-with-null" and "-disable-pass-list-reduction".

When "-replace-funcs-with-null" is specified, bugpoint will, instead of simply deleting function bodies, replace all uses of functions and then will delete functions completely from the test module, correctly handling aliasing and @llvm.used && @llvm.compiler.used. This part was conceived while trying to debug the PNaCl IR simplification passes, which don't allow undefined functions (ie no declarations).

With "-disable-pass-list-reduction", bugpoint won't try to reduce the set of passes causing the "crash". This is needed in cases where one is trying to debug an issue inside the PNaCl IR simplification passes which is causing an PNaCl ABI verification error, for example.

path to the PDB. It could not open an EXE and find the matching
PDB and verify it matched, etc. This patch adds support for that
so that we can simply load debug information for a PDB directly.

Additionally, this patch extends DebugInfoPDB to support getting
source and line information for symbols.

Manman Ren ce0a066524 [LTO API] add lto_codegen_set_should_internalize.
When debugging LTO issues with ld64, we use -save-temps to save the merged
optimized bitcode file, then invoke ld64 again on the single bitcode file.
The saved bitcode file is already internalized, so we can call
lto_codegen_set_should_internalize and skip running internalization again.
