cntlz is the old POWER mnemonic. cntlzw is the PowerPC mnemonic.
This change fixes an issue when -no-integrated-as: The opcode cntlz is
unrecognized by gas
Alias the POWER mnemonic cntlz[.] to the PowerPC mnemonic cntlzw[.]
This is done for because the POWER cntlz mnemonic has be used by LLVM for
a very long time. We need to make sure that assembly programs
that are using the cntlz[.] do not break with this change.
Change PowerPC tests to reflect the insn change from cntlz to cntlzw.
Add assembly test to verify cntlz[.] is encoded correctly.

This patch adds support for the ISA 2.07 additions involving the
branch history rolling buffer and event-based branching. These will
not be used by typical applications, so built-in support is not
required. They will only be available via inline assembly.
Assembly/disassembly tests are included in the patch.

TableGen had been nicely generating code to print a number of instructions using
shorter aliases (and PowerPC has plenty of short mnemonics), but we were not
calling it. For some of the aliases we support in the parser, TableGen can't
infer the "inverse" alias relationship, so there is still more to do.
Thus, after some hours of updating test cases...

This is the patch corresponding to review:
http://reviews.llvm.org/D8406
It adds some missing instructions from ISA 2.06 to the PPC back end.

The asm syntax for the 32-bit rotate-and-mask instructions can take a 32-bit
bitmask instead of an (mb, me) pair. This syntax is not specified in the Power
ISA manual, but is accepted by GNU as, and is documented in IBM's Assembler
Language Reference. The GNU Multiple Precision Arithmetic Library (gmp)
contains assembly that uses this syntax.
To implement this, I moved the isRunOfOnes utility function from
PPCISelDAGToDAG.cpp to PPCMCTargetDesc.h.
llvm-svn: 233483
Newer POWER cores, and the A2, support the cmpb instruction. This instruction
compares its operands, treating each of the 8 bytes in the GPRs separately,
returning a 'mask' result of 0 (for false) or -1 (for true) in each byte.
Code generation support is added, in the form of a PPCISelDAGToDAG
DAG-preprocessing routine, that recognizes patterns close to what the
instruction computes (either exactly, or related by a constant masking
operation), and generates the cmpb instruction (along with any necessary
constant masking operation). This can be expanded if use cases arise.

As a first step towards real little-endian code generation, this patch
changes the PowerPC MC layer to actually generate little-endian object
files. This involves passing the little-endian flag through the various
layers, including down to createELFObjectWriter so we actually get basic
little-endian ELF objects, emitting instructions in little-endian order,
and handling fixups and relocations as appropriate for little-endian.
The bulk of the patch is to update most test cases in test/MC/PowerPC
to verify both big- and little-endian encodings. (The only test cases
*not* updated are those that create actual big-endian ABI code, like
the TLS tests.)
Note that while the object files are now little-endian, the generated
code itself is not yet updated, in particular, it still does not adhere
to the ELFv2 ABI.

This adds support for the basic mnemoics (with the L operand) for the
fixed-point compare instructions. These are defined as aliases for the
already existing CMPW/CMPD patterns, depending on the value of L.
This requires use of InstAlias patterns with immediate literal operands.
To make this work, we need two further changes:
- define a RegisterPrefix, because otherwise literals 0 and 1 would
be parsed as literal register names
- provide a PPCAsmParser::validateTargetOperandClass routine to
recognize immediate literals (like ARM does)
llvm-svn: 185826
Just as with mfocrf, it is also preferable to use mtocrf instead of
mtcrf when only a single CR register is to be written.
Current code however always emits mtcrf. This probably does not matter
when using an external assembler, since the GNU assembler will in fact
automatically replace mtcrf with mtocrf when possible. It does create
inefficient code with the integrated assembler, however.
To fix this, this patch adds MTOCRF/MTOCRF8 instruction patterns and
uses those instead of MTCRF/MTCRF8 everything. Just as done in the
MFOCRF patch committed as 185556, these patterns will be converted
back to MTCRF if MTOCRF is not available on the machine.
As a side effect, this allows to modify the MTCRF pattern to accept
the full range of mask operands for the benefit of the asm parser.
llvm-svn: 185561
This adds support for the generic forms of mtspr/mfspr
for the asm parser. The compiler will continue to use
the specialized patters for mtlr etc. since those are
needed to correctly describe data flow.
llvm-svn: 185532
This adds pattern for the rldcr and rldic instructions (the last instruction
from the rotate/shift family that were missing). They are currently used
only by the asm parser.
llvm-svn: 184833
This adds instruction patterns to cover the generic forms of
the conditional branch instructions. This allows the assembler
to support the generic mnemonics.
The compiler will still generate the various specific forms
of the instruction that were already supported.
llvm-svn: 184722
There is currently only limited support for the "absolute" variants
of branch instructions. This patch adds support for the absolute
variants of all branches that are currently otherwise supported.
This requires adding new fixup types so that the correct variant
of relocation type can be selected by the object writer.
While the compiler will continue to usually choose the relative
branch variants, this will allow the asm parser to fully support
the absolute branches, with either immediate (numerical) or
symbolic target addresses.
No change in code generation intended.
llvm-svn: 184721
A plain "sc" without argument is supposed to be treated like "sc 0"
by the assembler. This patch adds a corresponding alias.
Problem reported by Joerg Sonnenberger.
llvm-svn: 183687
This adds assembler parser support to the PowerPC back end.
The parser will run for any powerpc-*-* and powerpc64-*-* triples,
but was tested only on 64-bit Linux. The supported syntax is
intended to be compatible with the GNU assembler.
The parser does not yet support all PowerPC instructions, but
it does support anything that is generated by LLVM itself.
There is no support for testing restricted instruction sets yet,
i.e. the parser will always accept any instructions it knows,
no matter what feature flags are given.
Instruction operands will be checked for validity and errors
generated. (Error handling in general could still be improved.)
The patch adds a number of test cases to verify instruction
and operand encodings. The tests currently cover all instructions
from the following PowerPC ISA v2.06 Book I facilities:
Branch, Fixed-point, Floating-Point, and Vector.
Note that a number of these instructions are not yet supported
by the back end; they are marked with FIXME.
A number of follow-on check-ins will add extra features. When
they are all included, LLVM passes all tests (including bootstrap)
when using clang -cc1as as the system assembler.
