Max Kazantsev dd5ee6f5d9 [SCEV] Make isLoopEntryGuardedByCond a bit smarter
Sometimes `isLoopEntryGuardedByCond` cannot prove predicate `a > b` directly.
But it is a common situation when `a >= b` is known from ranges and `a != b` is
known from a dominating condition. Thia patch teaches SCEV to sum these facts
together and prove strict comparison via non-strict one.

Chandler Carruth 282ae1632a [x86/retpoline] Make the external thunk names exactly match the names
that happened to end up in GCC.

This is really unfortunate, as the names don't have much rhyme or reason
to them. Originally in the discussions it seemed fine to rely on aliases
to map different names to whatever external thunk code developers wished
to use but there are practical problems with that in the kernel it turns
out. And since we're discovering this practical problems late and since
GCC has already shipped a release with one set of names, we are forced,
yet again, to blindly match what is there.

Somewhat rushing this patch out for the Linux kernel folks to test and
so we can get it patched into our releases.

Teresa Johnson f368101567 [ThinLTO] Serialize WithGlobalValueDeadStripping index flag for distributed backends
Summary:
A recent fix to drop dead symbols (r323633) did not work for ThinLTO
distributed backends because we lose the WithGlobalValueDeadStripping
set on the index during the thin link. This patch adds a new flags
record to the bitcode format for the index, and serializes this flag
for the combined index (it would always be 0 for the per-module index
generated by the compile step, so no need to serialize the new flags
record there until/unless we add another flag that applies to the
per-module indexes).

Generally this flag should always be set for the distributed backends,
which are necessarily performed after the thin link. However, if we were
to simply set this flag on the index applied to the distributed backends
(invoked via clang), we would lose the ability to disable dead stripping
via -compute-dead=false for debugging purposes.

Mark Searles 24c92eeb83 [AMDGPU] Suppress redundant waitcnt instrs.
1. Run the memory legalizer prior to the waitcnt pass; keep the policy that the waitcnt pass does not remove any waitcnts within the incoming IR.

2. The waitcnt pass doesn't (yet) track waitcnts that exist prior to the waitcnt pass (it just skips over them); because the waitcnt pass is ignorant of them, it may insert a redundant waitcnt. To avoid this, check the prev instr. If it and the to-be-inserted waitcnt are the same, suppress the insertion. We keep the existing waitcnt under the assumption that whomever, e.g., the memory legalizer, inserted it knows what they were doing.

3. Follow-on work: teach the waitcnt pass to record the pre-existing waitcnts for better waitcnt production.

Craig Topper 58ecffd857 [DAGCombiner][AMDGPU][X86] Turn cttz/ctlz into cttz_zero_undef/ctlz_zero_undef if we can prove the input is never zero
X86 currently has a late DAG combine after cttz/ctlz are turned into BSR+BSF+CMOV to detect this and remove the CMOV. But we should be able to do this much earlier and avoid creating the cmov all together.

For the changed AMDGPU test case it appears that previously the i8 cttz was type legalized to i16 which introduced an OR with 256 in order to limit the result to 8 on the widened type. At this point the result is known to never be zero, but nothing checked that. Then operation legalization is told to promote all i16 cttz to i32. This introduces an extend and a truncate and another OR with 65536 to limit the result to 16. With the DAG combiner change we are able to prevent the creation of the second OR since the opcode will have been changed to cttz_zero_undef after the first OR. I the lack of the OR caused the instruction to change to v_ffbl_b32_sdwa

Adrian Prantl 8c59921ca3 Add DWARF for discriminated unions
n Rust, an enum that carries data in the variants is, essentially, a
discriminated union. Furthermore, the Rust compiler will perform
space optimizations on such enums in some situations. Previously,
DWARF for these constructs was emitted using a hack (a magic field
name); but this approach stopped working when more space optimizations
were added in https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/pull/45225.

This patch changes LLVM to allow discriminated unions to be
represented in DWARF. It adds createDiscriminatedUnionType and
createDiscriminatedMemberType to DIBuilder and then arranges for this
to be emitted using DWARF's DW_TAG_variant_part and DW_TAG_variant.

Note that DWARF requires that a discriminated union be represented as
a structure with a variant part. However, as Rust only needs to emit
pure discriminated unions, this is what I chose to expose on
DIBuilder.

Eli Friedman cd07a3e2f9 Place undefined globals in .bss instead of .data
Following up on the discussion from
http://lists.llvm.org/pipermail/llvm-dev/2017-April/112305.html, undef
values are now placed in the .bss as well as null values. This prevents
undef global values taking up potentially huge amounts of space in the
.data section.

The following two lines now both generate equivalent .bss data:

@vals1 = internal unnamed_addr global [20000000 x i32] zeroinitializer, align 4
@vals2 = internal unnamed_addr global [20000000 x i32] undef, align 4 ; previously unaccounted for

This is primarily motivated by the corresponding issue in the Rust
compiler (https://github.com/rust-lang/rust/issues/41315).

Craig Topper dfea544c84 [X86] Add test cases that exercise the BSR/BSF optimization combineCMov.
combineCmov tries to remove compares against BSR/BSF if we can prove the input to the BSR/BSF are never zero.

As far as I can tell most of the time codegenprepare despeculates ctlz/cttz and gives us a cttz_zero_undef/ctlz_zero_undef which don't use a cmov.

So the only way I found to trigger this code is to show codegenprepare an illegal type which it won't despeculate.

I think we should be turning ctlz/cttz into ctlz_zero_undef/cttz_zero_undef for these cases before we ever get to operation legalization where the cmov is created. But wanted to add these tests so we don't regress.

Lang Hames 4b546c9145 [ORC] Start migrating ORC layers to use the new ORC Core.h APIs.
In particular this patch switches RTDyldObjectLinkingLayer to use
orc::SymbolResolver and threads the requried changse (ExecutionSession
references and VModuleKeys) through the existing layer APIs.

The purpose of the new resolver interface is to improve query performance and
better support parallelism, both in JIT'd code and within the compiler itself.

The most visibile change is switch of the <Layer>::addModule signatures from:

Expected<Handle> addModule(std::shared_ptr<ModuleType> Mod,
                           std::shared_ptr<JITSymbolResolver> Resolver)

to:

Expected<Handle> addModule(VModuleKey K, std::shared_ptr<ModuleType> Mod);

Typical usage of addModule will now look like:

auto K = ES.allocateVModuleKey();
Resolvers[K] = createSymbolResolver(...);
Layer.addModule(K, std::move(Mod));

See the BuildingAJIT tutorial code for example usage.

Craig Topper ee1f34eb9a [DAGCombiner] Pass the original load to ExtendSetCCUses not the turncate.
Summary:
This method is trying to use the truncate node to find which SETCC operand should be replaced directly with the extended load.

This used to work correctly because all uses of the original load were replaced by the truncate before this function was called. So this was used to effectively bypass the truncate and find the load under it.

All but one of the callers now call this before the truncate has replaced the laod so the setcc doesn't yet use the truncate. To account for this we should pass the original load instead.

I changed the order of that one caller to make this work there too.

I don't have a test case because this is probably hidden by later DAG combines causing the extend and truncate to cancel out. I assume this way is a little more efficient and matches what was originally intended.

Sanjay Patel 2329fcd293 [InstCombine] only allow narrow/wide evaluation of values with >1 use if that user is a binop
There was a logic hole in D42739 / rL324014 because we're not accounting for select and phi
instructions that might have repeated operands. This is likely a source of an infinite loop.
I haven't manufactured a test case to prove that, but it should be safe to speculatively limit

The commit rL308422 introduces a restriction for folding unconditional
branches. Specifically if empty block with unconditional branch leads to
header of the loop then elimination of this basic block is prohibited.
However it seems this condition is redundantly strict.
If elimination of this basic block does not introduce more back edges
then we can eliminate this block.

The patch implements this relax of restriction.

Sander de Smalen 5b691a10c0 [TableGen][AsmMatcherEmitter] Fix tied-constraint checking for InstAliases
Summary:
This is a bit of a reimplementation the work done in
https://reviews.llvm.org/D41446, since that patch only really works for
tied operands of instructions, not aliases.

Instead of checking the constraints based on the matched instruction's opcode,
this patch uses the match-info's convert function to check the operand
constraints for that specific instruction/alias.
This is based on the matched operands for the instruction, not the
resulting opcode of the MCInst.

This patch adds the following enum/table to the *GenAsmMatcher.inc file:
  enum {
    Tie0_1_1,
    Tie0_1_2,
    Tie0_1_5,
    ...
  };

  const char TiedAsmOperandTable[][3] = {
    /* Tie0_1_1 */ { 0, 1, 1 },
    /* Tie0_1_2 */ { 0, 1, 2 },
    /* Tie0_1_5 */ { 0, 1, 5 },
    ...
  };

And it is referenced directly in the ConversionTable, like this:
static const uint8_t ConversionTable[CVT_NUM_SIGNATURES][13] = {
  ...
  { CVT_95_addRegOperands, 1,
    CVT_95_addRegOperands, 2,
    CVT_Tied, Tie0_1_5,
    CVT_95_addRegOperands, 6, CVT_Done },
  ...

The Tie0_1_5 (and corresponding table) encodes that:
* Result operand 0 is the operand to copy (which is e.g. done when
  building up the operands to the MCInst in convertToMCInst())
* Asm operands 1 and 5 should be the same operands (which is checked
  in checkAsmTiedOperandConstraints()).

Chad Rosier a097bc69df [LV] Use Demanded Bits and ValueTracking for reduction type-shrinking
The type-shrinking logic in reduction detection, although narrow in scope, is
also rather ad-hoc, which has led to bugs (e.g., PR35734). This patch modifies
the approach to rely on the demanded bits and value tracking analyses, if
available. We currently perform type-shrinking separately for reductions and
other instructions in the loop. Long-term, we should probably think about
computing minimal bit widths in a more complete way for the loops we want to
vectorize.

James Henderson 3fcc74500a [DWARF v5] Add limited support for dumping .debug_rnglists
This change adds support to llvm-dwarfdump for dumping DWARF5
.debug_rnglists sections in regular ELF files.

It is not complete, in that several DW_RLE_* encodings are currently
not supported, but does dump the headert and the basic ranges for
DW_RLE_start_length and DW_RLE_start_end encodings.

Obvious next steps are to add verbose dumping that dumps the raw
encodings, rather than the interpreted contents, to add -verify support
of the section (e.g. to show that the correct number of offsets are
specified), add dumping of .debug_rnglists.dwo, and to add support for
other encodings.

Mikael Holmen b69e5b7393 [GlobalOpt] Include padding in debug fragments
Summary:
When creating the debug fragments for a SRA'd variable, use the types'
allocation sizes. This fixes issues where the pass would emit too small
fragments, placed at the wrong offset, for padded types.

An example of this is long double on x86. The type is represented using
x86_fp80, which is 10 bytes, but the value is aligned to 12/16 bytes.
The padding is included in the type's DW_AT_byte_size attribute;
therefore, the fragments should also include that. Newer GCC releases
(I tested 7.2.0) emit 12/16-byte pieces for long double. Earlier
releases, e.g. GCC 5.5.0, behaved as LLVM did, i.e. by emitting a
10-byte piece, followed by an empty 2/6-byte piece for the padding.

Failing to cover all `DW_AT_byte_size' bytes of a value with non-empty
pieces results in the value being printed as <optimized out> by GDB.

%0 will have a live interval with 3 value numbers (for the BB0, BB1 and

number in BB2 (This only works because it is a secondary split so
SplitKit is can trace this back to a single original def).

We need to recompute all live ranges affected by a value number that we
rematerialize. The case that we missed before is that when the value
that is rematerialized is at a join (Phi VNI) then we also have to
recompute liveness for the predecessor VNIs.

Every instruction that has the word TEST in its name seems to have been buried into EmitTest. But that code is largely concerned with trying to reuse the flags from instructions that update flags in a pretty normal way.

PTEST/TESTP/KTEST do not update flags in a normal way. They only update Z and C and the C flag update is non-standard. Rather than try to bend EmitTest's already complex logic to accomodate this, just move the call up to LowerSETCC and replicate the few pre-checks that are needed.

While there add a FIXME for using the C flag for checking for all 1s which we definitely couldn't do from EmitTEST.

Craig Topper 7e910a9e85 [X86] Turn X86ISD::AND nodes that have no flag users back into ISD::AND just before isel to enable test instruction matching
Summary:
EmitTest sometimes creates X86ISD::AND specifically to hide the AND from DAG combine. But this prevents isel patterns that look for (cmp (and X, Y), 0) from being able to see it. So we end up with an AND and a TEST. The TEST gets removed by compare instruction optimization during the peephole pass.

This patch attempts to fix this by converting X86ISD::AND with no flag users back into ISD::AND during the DAG preprocessing just before isel.

In order to do this correctly I had to make the X86ISD::AND node created by EmitTest in this case really have a flag output. Which arguably it should have had anyway so that the number of operands would be consistent for the opcode in all cases. Then I had to modify the ReplaceAllUsesWith to understand that we might be looking at an instruction with 2 outputs. Though in this case there are no uses to replace since we just created the node, but that's what the code did before so I just made it keep working.

attribute are 'preserve-sign' and 'positive-zero'.

So we don't generate this extra code by default with just '-ffast-math' (because
then there's no denormal attribute string at all), but it works if you specify
'-ffast-math -fdenormal-fp-math=ieee' from clang.

Mikael Holmen 6d06976e74 [LSR] Don't force bases of foldable formulae to the final type.
Summary:
Before emitting code for scaled registers, we prevent
SCEVExpander from hoisting any scaled addressing mode
by emitting all the bases first. However, these bases
are being forced to the final type, resulting in some
odd code.

For example, if the type of the base is an integer and
the final type is a pointer, we will emit an inttoptr
for the base, a ptrtoint for the scale, and then a
'reverse' GEP where the GEP pointer is actually the base
integer and the index is the pointer. It's more intuitive
to use the pointer as a pointer and the integer as index.

This change expands the amount of registers stashed by the entry and

We've found that since the `__xray_CustomEvent` trampoline calls can show up in

typically want to affect the code-gen around the disabled

state of even the scratch registers in the handling of these custom events.

Amara Emerson 93b0ff20c9 [GlobalOpt] Improve common case efficiency of static global initializer evaluation
For very, very large global initializers which can be statically evaluated, the
code would create vectors of temporary Constants, modifying them in place,
before committing the resulting Constant aggregate to the global's initializer
value. This had effectively O(n^2) complexity in the size of the global
initializer and would cause memory and non-termination issues compiling some
workloads.

This change performs the static initializer evaluation and creation in batches,
once for each global in the evaluated IR memory. The existing code is maintained
as a last resort when the initializers are more complex than simple values in a
large aggregate. This should theoretically by NFC, no test as the example case
is massive. The existing test cases pass with this, as well as the llvm test
suite.

To give an example, consider the following C++ code adapted from the clang
regression tests:
struct S {
 int n = 10;
 int m = 2 * n;
 S(int a) : n(a) {}
};

template<typename T>
struct U {
 T *r = &q;
 T q = 42;
 U *p = this;
};

U<S> e;

The global static constructor for 'e' will need to initialize 'r' and 'p' of
the outer struct, while also initializing the inner 'q' structs 'n' and 'm'
members. This batch algorithm will simply use general CommitValueTo() method
to handle the complex nested S struct initialization of 'q', before
processing the outermost members in a single batch. Using CommitValueTo() to
handle member in the outer struct is inefficient when the struct/array is
very large as we end up creating and destroy constant arrays for each
initialization.
For the above case, we expect the following IR to be generated:

%struct.U = type { %struct.S*, %struct.S, %struct.U* }
%struct.S = type { i32, i32 }
@e = global %struct.U { %struct.S* gep inbounds (%struct.U, %struct.U* @e,
                                                 i64 0, i32 1),
                        %struct.S { i32 42, i32 84 }, %struct.U* @e }
The %struct.S { i32 42, i32 84 } inner initializer is treated as a complex
constant expression, while the other two elements of @e are "simple".

This commit came as a result for revert of patch r317579 (originally

their existence in the epilogue block was affecting the Tail duplication

compact unwind info on Darwin, which is why the patch was reverted.

This patch allows duplicating tails with CFI instructions, though they are
not duplicable, by copying them 'manually'.

evaluates the latencies of all patterns, and ensures that the latency
saved decreases for subsequent patterns.

This catches the sub-optimal order fixed in D41587, but I am not
entirely happy with the check, as it only applies to sub-optimal
patterns seen while building with EXPENSIVE_CHECKS on. It did not
discover any other sub-optimal pattern ordering.

Sjoerd Meijer 98d5359ea2 [ARM] Armv8.2-A FP16 code generation (part 2/3)
Half-precision arguments and return values are passed as if it were an int or
float for ARM. This results in truncates and bitcasts to/from i16 and f16
values, which are legalized very early to stack stores/loads. When FullFP16 is
enabled, we want to avoid codegen for these bitcasts as it is unnecessary and
inefficient.

Roger Ferrer Ibanez aea4208720 [ARM] Allow the scheduler to clone a node with glue to avoid a copy CPSR ↔ GPR.
In Thumb 1, with the new ADDCARRY / SUBCARRY the scheduler may need to do
copies CPSR ↔ GPR but not all Thumb1 targets implement them.

The schedule can attempt, before attempting a copy, to clone the instructions
but it does not currently do that for nodes with input glue. In this patch we
introduce a target-hook to let the hook decide if a glued machinenode is still
eligible for copying. In this case these are ARM::tADCS and ARM::tSBCS .

As a follow-up of this change we should actually implement the copies for the
Thumb1 targets that do implement them and restrict the hook to the targets that
can't really do such copy as these clones are not ideal.

This change fixes PR35836.

When a the Apple link editor builds a kext bundle file type and the
value of the -miphoneos-version-min argument is significantly current
(like 11.0) then the (__TEXT,__text) section is changed to the
(__TEXT_EXEC,__text) section. So it would be nice for llvm-nm to
show symbols in that section with a type of T instead of the generic
type of S for some section other than text, data, etc.

Yaxun Liu c00d81e697 LLParser: add an argument for overriding data layout and do not check alloca addr space
Sometimes users do not specify data layout in LLVM assembly and let llc set the
data layout by target triple after loading the LLVM assembly.

Currently the parser checks alloca address space no matter whether the LLVM
assembly contains data layout definition, which causes false alarm since the
default data layout does not contain the correct alloca address space.

The parser also calls verifier to check debug info and updating invalid debug
info. Currently there is no way to let the verifier to check debug info only.
If the verifier finds non-debug-info issues the parser will fail.

For llc, the fix is to remove the check of alloca addr space in the parser and
disable updating debug info, and defer the updating of debug info and
verification to be after setting data layout of the IR by target.

For other llvm tools, since they do not override data layout by target but
instead can override data layout by a command line option, an argument for
overriding data layout is added to the parser. In cases where data layout
overriding is necessary for the parser, the data layout can be provided by
command line.

Without the patch !if() is only evaluated if it's used directly.
If it's passed through more than one level of class inheritance,
we end up with a reference to an anonymous record with unresolved

The root cause of the problem is that TernOpInit::isComplete()

value of !if() as an initializer for the record at the next level
of inheritance.
