chip in r139383, and the PSP components of the triple are really
annoying to parse. Let's leave this chapter behind. There is no reason
to expect LLVM to see a PSP-related triple these days, and so no
reasonable motivation to support them.
It might be reasonable to prune a few of the older MIPS triple forms in
general, but as those at least cause no burden on parsing (they aren't
both a chip and an OS!), I'm happy to leave them in for now.

Affect on SD scheduling and postRA scheduling:
Printing the DAG will display the nodes in top-down topological order.
This matches the order within the MBB and makes my life much easier in general.
Affect on misched:
We don't need to track virtual register uses at all. This is awesome.
I also intend to rely on the SUnit ID as a topo-sort index. So if A < B then we cannot have an edge B -> A.
llvm-svn: 151135
This makes RAFast 4% faster, and it gets rid of the dodgy DenseMap
iteration.
This also revealed that RAFast would sometimes dereference DenseMap
iterators after erasing other elements from the map. That does seem to
work in the current DenseMap implementation, but SparseSet doesn't allow
it.
llvm-svn: 151111
For objects that can be identified by small unsigned keys, SparseSet
provides constant time clear() and fast deterministic iteration. Insert,
erase, and find operations are typically faster than hash tables.
SparseSet is useful for keeping information about physical registers,
virtual registers, or numbered basic blocks.

they'll be simple enough to simulate, and to reduce the chance we'll encounter
equal but different simple pointer constants.
This removes the symptoms from PR11352 but is not a full fix. A proper fix would
either require a guarantee that two constant objects we simulate are folded
when equal, or a different way of handling equal pointers (ie., trying a
constantexpr icmp on them to see whether we know they're equal or non-equal or
unsure).
llvm-svn: 151093
This transformation is not safe in some pathological cases (signed icmp of pointers should be an

Kudos to Duncan for pointing out this edge case (and not giving up explaining it until I finally got it).

They're private static methods but we can just make them static

Passes after RegAlloc should be able to rely on MRI->getNumVirtRegs() == 0.
This makes sharing code for pre/postRA passes more robust.
Now, to check if a pass is running before the RA pipeline begins, use MRI->isSSA().
To check if a pass is running after the RA pipeline ends, use !MRI->getNumVirtRegs().
PEI resets virtual regs when it's done scavenging.
PTX will either have to provide its own PEI pass or assign physregs.

llvm-svn: 150736
Call clobbers are now represented with register mask operands. The
regmask can easily represent the fact that xmm6 is call-preserved while
ymm6 isn't. This is automatically computed by TableGen from the
CalleeSavedRegs containing xmm6.
llvm-svn: 150709
Call instructions no longer have a list of 43 call-clobbered registers.
Instead, they get a single register mask operand with a bit vector of
call-preserved registers.
This saves a lot of memory, 42 x 32 bytes = 1344 bytes per call
instruction, and it speeds up building call instructions because those
43 imp-def operands no longer need to be added to use-def lists. (And
removed and shifted and re-added for every explicit call operand).
Passes like LiveVariables, LiveIntervals, RAGreedy, PEI, and
BranchFolding are significantly faster because they can deal with call
clobbers in bulk.
Overall, clang -O2 is between 0% and 8% faster, uniformly distributed
depending on call density in the compiled code. Debug builds using
clang -O0 are 0% - 3% faster.
I have verified that this patch doesn't change the assembly generated
for the LLVM nightly test suite when building with -disable-copyprop
and -disable-branch-fold.
Branch folding behaves slightly differently in a few cases because call
instructions have different hash values now.
Copy propagation flushes its data structures when it crosses a register
mask operand. This causes it to leave a few dead copies behind, on the
order of 20 instruction across the entire nightly test suite, including
SPEC. Fixing this properly would require the pass to use different data
structures.

The existing framework for postra scheduling is library local. We want to keep it that way. Soon we will have a more general MachineScheduler interface. At that time, various bits will be exposed to targets. In the meantime, the VLIWPacketizer wants to use ScheduleDAGInstrs directly, so it needs to wrapped in a PIMPL to avoid exposing it to the target interface.

llvm-svn: 150572
The llc command line options for enabling/disabling passes are local to CodeGen/Passes.cpp. This patch associates those options with standard pass IDs so they work regardless of how the target configures the passes.
A target has two ways of overriding standard passes:
1) Redefine the pass pipeline (override TargetPassConfig::add%Stage)
2) Replace or suppress individiual passes with TargetPassConfig::substitutePass.
In both cases, the command line options associated with the pass override the target default.
For example, say a target wants to disable machine instruction scheduling by default:
- The target calls disablePass(MachineSchedulerID) but otherwise does not override any TargetPassConfig methods.
- Without any llc options, no scheduler is run.
- With -enable-misched, the standard machine scheduler is run and honors the -misched=... flag to select the scheduler variant, which may be used for performance evaluation or testing.
Sorry overridePass is ugly. I haven't thought of a better way without replacing the cl::opt framework. I hope to do that one day...
I haven't figured out why CodeGen uses char& for pass IDs. AnalysisID is much easier to use and less bug prone. I'm using it wherever I can for internal implementation. Maybe later we can change the global pass ID definitions as well.
llvm-svn: 150563
Pretend that regmask interference ends at the 'dead' slot, even when
there is other interference ending at the 'reg' slot of the same

llvm-svn: 150531
Only accept register masks when looking for an 'overlapping' def. When
Overlap is not set, the function searches for a proper definition of
Reg.
This means MI->modifiesRegister() considers register masks, but
MI->definesRegister() doesn't.
llvm-svn: 150529
When a physreg is live in to a basic block, look for any instruction in
the block that clobbers the physreg.
The instruction doesn't have to properly redefine the register, any
overlapping clobber is OK.
This slightly changes live ranges when compiling with register masks.
llvm-svn: 150528

llvm-svn: 150477
This folds a simple loop tail into a loop latch. It covers the common (in fortran) case of postincrement loops. It's a "free" way to expose this type of loop to downstream loop optimizations that bail out on non-canonical loops (getLoopLatch is a heavily used check).
llvm-svn: 150439
The scheduler will sometimes check the implicit-def list on instructions
to properly handle pre-colored DAG edges.
Also check any register mask operands for physreg clobbers.
llvm-svn: 150428
This is useful for clients that want to maintain compatibility
across multiple releases of LLVM. Currently users like Klee and

Also reuse the new macros so that version information is less

llvm-svn: 150356
v8i8 -> v8i32 on AVX machines. The codegen often scalarizes ANY_EXTEND nodes.
The DAGCombiner has two optimizations that can mitigate the problem. First,
if all of the operands of a BUILD_VECTOR node are extracted from an ZEXT/ANYEXT
nodes, then it is possible to create a new simplified BUILD_VECTOR which uses
UNDEFS/ZERO values to eliminate the scalar ZEXT/ANYEXT nodes.
Second, another dag combine optimization lowers BUILD_VECTOR into a shuffle
vector instruction.
In the case of zext v8i8->v8i32 on AVX, a value in an XMM register is to be
shuffled into a wide YMM register.
This patch modifes the second optimization and allows the creation of
shuffle vectors even when the newly generated vector and the original vector
from which we extract the values are of different types.

llvm-svn: 150303
Module flags are key-value pairs associated with the module. They include a
'behavior' value, indicating how module flags react when mergine two
files. Normally, it's just the union of the two module flags. But if two module
flags have the same key, then the resulting flags are dictated by the behaviors.
Allowable behaviors are:
Error
Emits an error if two values disagree.
Warning
Emits a warning if two values disagree.
Require
Emits an error when the specified value is not present
or doesn't have the specified value. It is an error for
two (or more) llvm.module.flags with the same ID to have
the Require behavior but different values. There may be
multiple Require flags per ID.
Override
Uses the specified value if the two values disagree. It
is an error for two (or more) llvm.module.flags with the
same ID to have the Override behavior but different
values.
llvm-svn: 150300
In case the MachineScheduling pass I'm working on doesn't work well
for another target, they can completely override it. This also adds a
hook immediately after the RegAlloc pass to cleanup immediately after
vregs go away. We may want to fold it into the postRA hook later.
llvm-svn: 150298
When using register masks, registers like %rip are clobbered by the
register mask. LICM should still be able to hoist instructions reading
%rip from a loop containing calls.
llvm-svn: 150288
Now that the clang driver passes the CPU and feature information to
the backend when processing assembly files (150273), this isn't necessary.
llvm-svn: 150274
It can be necessary to detach a register mask pointer from its
MachineOperand. This method is convenient for checking clobbered
physregs on a detached bitmask pointer.
llvm-svn: 150261
This makes global live range splitting behave identically with and
without register mask operands.
This is not necessarily the best way of using register masks for live
range splitting. It would be more efficient to first split global live
ranges around calls (i.e., register masks), and reserve the fine grained
per-physreg interference guidance for global live ranges that do not
cross calls.
For now the goal is to produce identical assembly when enabling register
masks.
llvm-svn: 150259
This allows BBVectorize to check the "unknown instruction" list in the

Creates a configurable regalloc pipeline.
Ensure specific llc options do what they say and nothing more: -reglloc=... has no effect other than selecting the allocator pass itself. This patch introduces a new umbrella flag, "-optimize-regalloc", to enable/disable the optimizing regalloc "superpass". This allows for example testing coalscing and scheduling under -O0 or vice-versa.
When a CodeGen pass requires the MachineFunction to have a particular property, we need to explicitly define that property so it can be directly queried rather than naming a specific Pass. For example, to check for SSA, use MRI->isSSA, not addRequired<PHIElimination>.
CodeGen transformation passes are never "required" as an analysis
ProcessImplicitDefs does not require LiveVariables.
We have a plan to massively simplify some of the early passes within the regalloc superpass.
llvm-svn: 150226
Unify default construction of error_code uses on this idiom so that users don't
feel compelled to make static globals for naming convenience. (unfortunately I
couldn't make the original ctor private as some APIs don't return their result,
instead using an out parameter (that makes sense to default construct) - which
is a bit of a pity. I did, however, find/fix some cases of unnecessary default
construction of error_code before I hit the unfixable cases)
llvm-svn: 150197
This only adds the interference checks required for correctness.
We still need to take advantage of register masks for the
interference driven live range splitting.
llvm-svn: 150191
GlobalOpt runs early in the pipeline (before inlining) and complex class

If someone would prefer a clear name for the 'success' error_value we could
come up with one - potentially just a 'named constructor' style
'error_value::success()' to make this expression more self-documenting. If
I see this come up in other cases I'll certainly consider it.
One step along the way to resolving PR11944.
llvm-svn: 150120
I think this was already the intention, but DeadMachineInstructionElim
was accidentally tracking the liveness of reserved registers. Now,
instructions with reserved defs are never deleted.
This prevents the call stack adjustment instructions from getting
deleted when enabling register masks.
llvm-svn: 150116
For simplicity, treat calls with register masks as basic block

Build an ordered vector of register mask operands (i.e., calls) when
computing live intervals. Provide a checkRegMaskInterference() function
that computes a bit mask of usable registers for a live range.

and restricting it to the callee saved registers if it does.
Previously, we had to discover call clobbers for each candidate register

1. Added a status note when a config file is loaded directly with load_config. This helps notice loads of lit.cfg from lit.site.cfg
2. Added a status note on the result of a config load. Previously, it was just notifying that it tries to load a config file. Now it will also say whether the load succeeded or the file wasn't found
The two changes give better visibility into which config files were actually loaded by lit. The effect is only on --debug runs.

* Most of the transforms come through intact by having each transformed load or
store copy the ordering and synchronization scope of the original.
* The transform that turns a global only accessed in main() into an alloca
(since main is non-recursive) with a store of the initial value uses an
unordered store, since it's guaranteed to be the first thing to happen in main.
(Threads may have started before main (!) but they can't have the address of a
function local before the point in the entry block we insert our code.)
* The heap-SRoA transforms are disabled in the face of atomic operations. This
can probably be improved; it seems odd to have atomic accesses to an alloca
that doesn't have its address taken.
AnalyzeGlobal keeps track of the strongest ordering found in any use of the
global. This is more information than we need right now, but it's cheap to
compute and likely to be useful.

logic by half: isOnlyReachableViaThisEdge was trying to be clever and
handle the case of a branch to a basic block which is contained in a
loop. This costs a domtree lookup and is completely useless due to
GVN's position in the pass pipeline: all loops have preheaders at this
point, which means it is enough for isOnlyReachableViaThisEdge to check
that Dst has only one predecessor. (I checked this theoretical argument
by running over the entire nightly testsuite, and indeed it is so!).

This is enough to handle any strange interference problems.
llvm-svn: 149769
I don't have a test that fails because of this, but a test case like
CodeGen/X86/2009-12-01-EarlyClobberBug.ll exposes the problem. EAX is

range should look like this:
%EAX,inf = [48r,64e:0)[64e,80r:1) 0@48r 1@64e
Previously, the two values got merged:
%EAX,inf = [48r,80r:0) 0@48r
With this bug fixed, the REDEF_BY_EC VNInfo flag is no longer needed.
llvm-svn: 149768
Andy, in a previous commit you made this into an ImmutablePass so that you could
add it to the PassManager, then in the next commit you left it a Pass but
removed the code that added it to the PM. If you do add it to the PM then the PM
should take care of deleting it, but it's also true that nothing in codegen
needs this object to exist after it's done its work here. It's not clear to me
which design you want; this should likely either cease to be a Pass or be added
to the PM where other parts of CodeGen will request it.

NEON loads and stores accept single and double spaced pairs, triples,
and quads of D registers. This patch adds new register classes to
accurately model those constraints:
Dn, Dn+1 Dn, Dn+2
----------------------
DPair DPairSpc
DTriple DTripleSpc
DQuad DQuadSpc
Also extend the existing QQ and QQQQ register classes to contains all Q
pairs and quads instead of just the aligned ones.
These new register classes will make it possible to accurately model
constraints on NEON loads and stores, and we can get rid of all the NEON
pseudo-instructions. The late scheduler will be able to accurately
model instruction dependencies from the explicit operands.
This more than doubles the number of ARM registers, but the backend
passes are quite good at handling this. The llc -O0 compile time only
regresses by 1.5%. Future work on register mask operands will recover

As suggested by Nick Lewycky, the tree traversal queues have been changed to SmallVectors and the associated loops have been rotated. Also, an 80-col violation was fixed.
llvm-svn: 149607
Long basic blocks with many candidate pairs (such as in the SHA implementation in Perl 5.14; thanks to Roman Divacky for the example) used to take an unacceptably-long time to compile. Instead, break long blocks into groups so that no group has too many candidate pairs.

Adds an instruction itinerary to all x86 instructions, giving each a default latency of 1, using the InstrItinClass IIC_DEFAULT.
Sets specific latencies for Atom for the instructions in files X86InstrCMovSetCC.td, X86InstrArithmetic.td, X86InstrControl.td, and X86InstrShiftRotate.td. The Atom latencies for the remainder of the x86 instructions will be set in subsequent patches.
Adds a test to verify that the scheduler is working.
Also changes the scheduling preference to "Hybrid" for i386 Atom, while leaving x86_64 as ILP.

It is simpler to define a composite index directly:
def ssub_2 : SubRegIndex<[dsub_1, ssub_0]>;
def ssub_3 : SubRegIndex<[dsub_1, ssub_1]>;
Than specifying the composite indices on each register:
CompositeIndices = [(ssub_2 dsub_1, ssub_0),
(ssub_3 dsub_1, ssub_1)] in ...
This also makes it clear that SubRegIndex composition is supposed to be
unique.

The final tie breaker comparison also needs to return +/-1, or 0.
This is not a less() function.
This could cause otherwise identical super-classes to be ordered
unstably, depending on what the system qsort routine does with a bad
compare function.

This new scheduler plugs into the existing selection DAG scheduling framework. It is a top-down critical path scheduler that tracks register pressure and uses a DFA for pipeline modeling.

It could only be specified on the commandline, and wouldn't show
up as an option in the GUI or when invoked via `cmake -i` at all.
This also tells CMake that it's a BOOL, rather than "UNINITIALIZED".
llvm-svn: 149506
The CMake build already generated one. Follows clang r149497.
This brings us one step closer to compiling and configuring clang
separately from LLVM using the autoconf build, too.
(I lack the right version of autoconf et al. to regen, but it
was a simple change, so I just updated configure manually.)
llvm-svn: 149498
The purpose of refactoring is to hide operand roles from SwitchInst user (programmer). If you want to play with operands directly, probably you will need lower level methods than SwitchInst ones (TerminatorInst or may be User). After this patch we can reorganize SwitchInst operands and successors as we want.
What was done:
1. Changed semantics of index inside the getCaseValue method:
getCaseValue(0) means "get first case", not a condition. Use getCondition() if you want to resolve the condition. I propose don't mix SwitchInst case indexing with low level indexing (TI successors indexing, User's operands indexing), since it may be dangerous.
2. By the same reason findCaseValue(ConstantInt*) returns actual number of case value. 0 means first case, not default. If there is no case with given value, ErrorIndex will returned.
3. Added getCaseSuccessor method. I propose to avoid usage of TerminatorInst::getSuccessor if you want to resolve case successor BB. Use getCaseSuccessor instead, since internal SwitchInst organization of operands/successors is hidden and may be changed in any moment.
4. Added resolveSuccessorIndex and resolveCaseIndex. The main purpose of these methods is to see how case successors are really mapped in TerminatorInst.
4.1 "resolveSuccessorIndex" was created if you need to level down from SwitchInst to TerminatorInst. It returns TerminatorInst's successor index for given case successor.
4.2 "resolveCaseIndex" converts low level successors index to case index that curresponds to the given successor.

The pass pointer should never be referenced after sending it to
schedulePass(), which may delete the pass. To fix this bug I had to
clean up the design leading to more goodness.
You may notice now that any non-analysis pass is printed. So things like loop-simplify and lcssa show up, while target lib, target data, alias analysis do not show up. Normally, analysis don't mutate the IR, but you can now check this by using both -print-after and -print-before. The effects of analysis will now show up in between the two.
The llc path is still in bad shape. But I'll be improving it in my next checkin. Meanwhile, print-machineinstrs still works the same way. With print-before/after, many llc passes that were not printed before now are, some of these should be converted to analysis. A few very important passes, isel and scheduler, are not properly initialized, so not printed.

Changing arguments from being passed as fixed to varargs is unsafe, as
the ABI may require they be handled differently (stack vs. register, for
example).
Remove two tests which rely on the bitcast being folded into the direct
call, which is exactly the transformation that's unsafe.

MCObjectWriter::IsSymbolRefDifferenceFullyResolved() should not have been

just have returned false in that case.

now that this handles the release / retain calls.
Adds a regression test for that bug (which is a compile-time
regression) and for the last two changes to the IntrusiveRefCntPtr,
especially tests for the memory leak due to copy construction of the
ref-counted object and ensuring that the traits are used for release /
retain calls.

This removes implicit assumption about the form of MI coming into regalloc. In particular, it should be independent of ProcessImplicitDefs which will eventually become a standard part of coming out of SSA--unless we simply can eliminate IMPLICIT_DEF completely. Current unit tests expose this once I remove incidental pass ordering restrictions.
This is not a final fix. Just a temporary workaround until I figure out the right way.

kicking in the big win of ConstantDataArray. As part of this, change
the implementation of GetConstantStringInfo in ValueTracking to work
with ConstantDataArray (and not ConstantArray) making it dramatically,
amazingly, more efficient in the process and renaming it to
getConstantStringInfo.
This keeps around a GetConstantStringInfo entrypoint that (grossly)
forwards to getConstantStringInfo and constructs the std::string
required, but existing clients should move over to
getConstantStringInfo instead.

vectors of all one bits to be printed more cleverly in the AsmPrinter.
Unfortunately, the byte value for all one bits is the same with
-fsigned-char as the error return of '-1'. Force this to be the unsigned
byte value when returning it to avoid this problem, and update the test
case for the shiny new behavior.
Yay for building LLVM and Clang with -funsigned-char.
Chris, please review, and let me know if there is any reason to not
desire this change. It seems good on the surface, and certainly intended
based on the code written.

- Don't call malloc+free in the very hot forward().
- Don't call isTiedToDefOperand().
- Don't create BitVector temporaries.
- Merge DeadRegs into KillRegs.
- Eliminate the early clobber checks, they were irrelevant to scavenging.
- Remove unnecessary code from -Asserts builds.
This speeds up ARM PEI by 3.4x and overall llc -O0 codegen time by 11%.

Sometimes there is only one 'resume' instruction per function. In those
situations, we don't need a separate block for the call to _Unwind_Resume. In
fact, it adds a lot of overhead to code-gen if we do that -- especially at -O0.
If we have a single 'resume' instruction, just generate the call within that
block.

Move to a model where we build whatever branches are checked out

system.
In addition, get rid of support for llvm-gcc and building gcc as
these are no longer necessary.

GEP instructions are there for the compiler and shouldn't really output much
code (if any at all). When a GEP is stored in the entry block, Fast ISel (for
one) will not know that it could fold it into further uses. For instance, inside
of the EH handling code. This results in a lot of unnecessary spills and loads
which bloat code and slows down pretty much everything.

The Win64 calling convention has xmm6-15 as callee-saved while still
clobbering all ymm registers.
Add a YMM_HI_6_15 pseudo-register that aliases the clobbered part of the
ymm registers, and mark that as call-clobbered. This allows live xmm
registers across calls.
This hack wouldn't be necessary with RegisterMask operands representing
the call clobbers, but they are not quite operational yet.

. "fptosi" and "fptoui" IR instructions are defined with round-to-zero rounding mode.
. Currently for AVX mode for <4xdouble> and <8xdouble> the "VCVTPD2DQ.128" and "VCVTPD2DQ.256" instructions are selected (for .fp_to_sint. DAG node operation ) by AVX codegen. However they use round-to-nearest-even rounding mode.
. Consequently, the conversion produces incorrect numbers.
The fix is to replace selection of VCVTPD2DQ instructions with VCVTTPD2DQ instructions. The latter use truncate (i.e. round-to-zero) rounding mode.
As .fp_to_sint. DAG node operation is used only for lowering of "fptosi" and "fptoui" IR instructions, the fix in X86InstrSSE.td definition file doesn.t have an impact on other LLVM flows.
The patch includes changes in the .td file, LIT test for the changes and a fix in a legacy LIT test (which produced asm code conflicting with LLVN IR spec).
