Akira Hatanaka 02914dc127 Add support for attribute 'trivial_abi'.
The 'trivial_abi' attribute can be applied to a C++ class, struct, or
union. It makes special functions of the annotated class (the destructor
and copy/move constructors) to be trivial for the purpose of calls and,
as a result, enables the annotated class or containing classes to be
passed or returned using the C ABI for the underlying type.

When a type that is considered trivial for the purpose of calls despite
having a non-trivial destructor (which happens only when the class type
or one of its subobjects is a 'trivial_abi' class) is passed to a
function, the callee is responsible for destroying the object.

list:

This allows you to dump C++ code that spells bool instead of _Bool, leaves off the elaborated type specifiers when printing struct or class names, and other C-isms.

Aaron Ballman adf66b6174 Determine the attribute subject for diagnostics based on declarative information in DeclNodes.td. This greatly reduces the number of enumerated values used for more complex diagnostics; these are now only required when the "attribute only applies to" diagnostic needs to be generated manually as part of semantic processing.
This also clarifies some terminology used by the diagnostic (methods -> Objective-C methods, fields -> non-static data members, etc).

Many of the tests needed to be updated in multiple places for the diagnostic wording tweaks. The first instance of the diagnostic for that attribute is fully specified and subsequent instances cut off the complete list (to make it easier if additional subjects are added in the future for the attribute).

Richard Smith 9bfa970a40 PR34822: Fix a collection of related bugs with our handling of C89 implicit function declarations.
We were injecting the function into the wrong semantic context, resulting in it
failing to be registered as a global for redeclaration lookup. As a
consequence, we accepted invalid code since r310616.

Fixing that resulted in the "out-of-scope declaration" diagnostic firing a lot
more often. It turned out that warning codepath was non-conforming, because it
did not cause us to inject the implicitly-declared function into the enclosing
block scope. We now only warn if the type of the out-of-scope declaration
doesn't match the type of an implicitly-declared function; in all other cases,
we produce the normal warning for an implicitly-declared function.

Akira Hatanaka 98a49337be Add support for attribute 'noescape'.
The attribute informs the compiler that the annotated pointer parameter
of a function cannot escape and enables IRGen to attach attribute
'nocapture' to parameters that are annotated with the attribute. That is
the only optimization that currently takes advantage of 'noescape', but
there are other optimizations that will be added later that improves
IRGen for ObjC blocks.

This recommits r313722, which was reverted in r313725 because clang
couldn't build compiler-rt. It failed to build because there were
function declarations that were missing 'noescape'. That has been fixed
in r313929.

Saleem Abdulrasool d064e91ece Revert "Revert r305164/5/7."
Restore the `-gz` option to the driver with some minor tweaks to handle
the additional case for `-Wa,--compress-debug-sections`.

This intends to make the compression of the debug information
controllable from the driver. The following is the behaviour:

  -gz enable compression (ambiguous for format, will default to zlib-gnu)
  -gz=none      disable compression
  -gz=zlib-gnu enable compression (deprecated GNU style zlib compression)
  -gz=zlib enable compression (zlib based compression)

Although -Wa,-compress-debug-sections works, it should be discouraged
when using the driver to invoke the assembler. However, we permit the
assembler to accept the GNU as style argument --compress-debug-sections
to maintain compatibility.

Note, -gz/-gz= does *NOT* imply -g. That is, you need to additionally
specific -g for debug information to be generated.

Richard Smith 90dc525472 PR33552: Distinguish between declarations that are owned by no module and
declarations that are owned but unconditionally visible.

This allows us to set declarations as visible even if they have a local owning
module, without losing information. In turn, that means that our Objective-C
support can keep on incorrectly assuming the "hidden" bit on the declaration is
the whole story with regard to name visibility. This will also be useful once
we support the C++ Modules TS export semantics.

Objective-C name visibility is still incorrect in any case where the "hidden"
bit is not the complete story: for instance, in Objective-C++ the set of
visible categories will be wrong during template instantiation, and with local
submodule visibility enabled it will be wrong when building modules. Fixing that
will require a major overhaul of how visibility is handled for Objective-C (and
particularly for categories).

Prior to this commit the external_source_symbol attribute wasn't supported by

- The Named attribute subject hasn't been supported by TableGen.
- There was no way to specify a subject match rule for #pragma clang attribute
 that could operate on a set of attribute subjects (e.g. the ones that derive
 from NamedDecl).

This commit fixes the two issues and thus adds external_source_symbol support to

Matthias Gehre 01a6338180 Add [[clang::suppress(rule, ...)]] attribute
Summary:
This patch implements parsing of [[clang::suppress(rule, ...)]]
and [[gsl::suppress(rule, ...)]] attributes.

C++ Core Guidelines depend heavily on tool support for
rule enforcement. They also propose a way to suppress
warnings [1] which is by annotating any ancestor in AST
with the C++11 attribute [[gsl::suppress(rule1,...)]].
To have a mechanism to suppress non-C++ Core
Guidelines specific, an additional spelling of [[clang::suppress]]
is defined.

For example, to suppress the warning cppcoreguidelines-slicing,
one could do
```
[[clang::suppress("cppcoreguidelines-slicing")]]
void f() { ... code that does slicing ... }
```
or
```
void g() {
  Derived b;
  [[clang::suppress("cppcoreguidelines-slicing")]]
  Base a{b};
  [[clang::suppress("cppcoreguidelines-slicing")]] {
    doSomething();
    Base a2{b};
  }
}
```

This parsing can then be used by clang-tidy, which includes multiple
C++ Core Guidelines rules, to suppress warnings (see
https://reviews.llvm.org/D24888).
For the exact naming of the rule in the attribute, there
are different possibilities, which will be defined in the
corresponding clang-tidy patch.

Currently, clang-tidy supports suppressing of warnings through "//
NOLINT" comments. There are some advantages that the attribute has:
- Suppressing specific warnings instead of all warnings
- Suppressing warnings in a block (namespace, function, compound
  statement)
- Code formatting may split a statement into multiple lines,
  thus a "// NOLINT" comment may be on the wrong line

I'm looking forward to your comments!

the immediate context is much more common during substitution than during
implicit conversion sequence formation.

This does not implement the partial ordering portion of DR1391, which so
far appears to be misguided.

Reid Kleckner 078aea9043 Store decls in prototypes on the declarator instead of in the AST
This saves two pointers from FunctionDecl that were being used for some
rare and questionable C-only functionality. The DeclsInPrototypeScope
ArrayRef was added in r151712 in order to parse this kind of C code:

    enum e {x, y};
    int f(enum {y, x} n) {
     return x; // should return 1, not 0
    }

The challenge is that we parse 'int f(enum {y, x} n)' it its own
function prototype scope that gets popped before we build the
FunctionDecl for 'f'. The original change was doing two questionable
things:

1. Saving all tag decls introduced in prototype scope on a TU-global
Sema variable. This is problematic when you have cases like this, where
'x' and 'y' shouldn't be visible in 'f':
    void f(void (*fp)(enum { x, y } e)) { /* no x */ }
This patch fixes that, so now 'f' can't see 'x', which is consistent
with GCC.

2. Storing the decls in FunctionDecl in ActOnFunctionDeclarator so that
they could be used in ActOnStartOfFunctionDef. This is just an
inefficient way to move information around. The AST lives forever, but
the list of non-parameter decls in prototype scope is short lived.

Moving these things to the Declarator solves both of these issues.

Serge Pavlov a67a4d2f3c Make output of -ast-print a valid C++ code.
Output generated by option -ast-print looks like C/C++ code, and it
really is for plain C. For C++ the produced output was not valid C++
code, but the differences were small. With this change the output
is fixed and can be compiled. Tests are changed so that output produced
by -ast-print is compiled again with the same flags and both outputs are
compared.

Option -ast-print is extensively used in clang tests but it itself
was tested poorly, existing tests only checked that compiler did not
crash. There are unit tests in file DeclPrinterTest.cpp, but they test
only terse output mode.

Richard Smith 5e9746f520 DR583, DR1512: Implement a rewrite to C++'s 'composite pointer type' rules.
This has two significant effects:

1) Direct relational comparisons between null pointer constants (0 and nullopt)
   and pointers are now ill-formed. This was always the case for C, and it
   appears that C++ only ever permitted by accident. For instance, cases like
     nullptr < &a
   are now rejected.

2) Comparisons and conditional operators between differently-cv-qualified
   pointer types now work, and produce a composite type that both source
   pointer types can convert to (when possible). For instance, comparison
   between 'int **' and 'const int **' is now valid, and uses an intermediate
   type of 'const int *const *'.

Clang previously supported #2 as an extension.

We do not accept the cases in #1 as an extension. I've tested a fair amount of
code to check that this doesn't break it, but if it turns out that someone is
relying on this, we can easily add it back as an extension.

Adam Nemet 2de463ece3 Add loop pragma for Loop Distribution
Summary:
This is similar to other loop pragmas like 'vectorize'. Currently it
only has state values: distribute(enable) and distribute(disable). When
one of these is specified the corresponding loop metadata is generated:

  !{!"llvm.loop.distribute.enable", i1 true/false}

As a result, loop distribution will be attempted on the loop even if
Loop Distribution in not enabled globally. Analogously, with 'disable'
distribution can be turned off for an individual loop even when the pass
is otherwise enabled.

There are some slight differences compared to the existing loop pragmas.

1. There is no 'assume_safety' variant which makes its handling slightly
different from 'vectorize'/'interleave'.

2. Unlike the existing loop pragmas, it does not have a corresponding
numeric pragma like 'vectorize' -> 'vectorize_width'. So for the
consistency checks in CheckForIncompatibleAttributes we don't need to
check it against other pragmas. We just need to check for duplicates of
the same pragma.

Hal Finkel c07e19b2c1 Add a loop's debug location to its llvm.loop metadata
Getting accurate locations for loops is important, because those locations are
used by the frontend to generate optimization remarks. Currently, optimization
remarks for loops often appear on the wrong line, often the first line of the
loop body instead of the loop itself. This is confusing because that line might
itself be another loop, or might be somewhere else completely if the body was
an inlined function call. This happens because of the way we find the loop's
starting location. First, we look for a preheader, and if we find one, and its
terminator has a debug location, then we use that. Otherwise, we look for a
location on an instruction in the loop header.

The fallback heuristic is not bad, but will almost always find the beginning of
the body, and not the loop statement itself. The preheader location search
often fails because there's often not a preheader, and even when there is a
preheader, depending on how it was formed, it sometimes carries the location of
some preceeding code.

I don't see any good theoretical way to fix this problem. On the other hand,
this seems like a straightforward solution: Put the debug location in the
loop's llvm.loop metadata. When emitting debug information, this commit causes
us to add the debug location as an operand to each loop's llvm.loop metadata.
Thus, we now generate this metadata for all loops (not just loops with
optimization hints) when we're otherwise generating debug information.

The remark test case changes depend on the companion LLVM commit r270771.

Adrian McCarthy e4b26fc7a7 Get default -fms-compatibility-version from cl.exe's version
-fms-compatibility-version was defaulting to 18 (VS 2013), which is a pain if your environment is pointing to version 19 (VS 2015) libraries.

If cl.exe can be found, this patch uses its version number as the default instead. It re-uses the existing code to find the Visual Studio binaries folder and WinAPI methods to check its version. You can still explicitly specify a compatibility version on the command line. If you don't have cl.exe, this should be a no-op and you'll get the old default of 18.

This affected the tests, which assumed that if you didn't specific a version, that it would default to 18, but this won't be true for all machines. So a couple test cases had to be eliminated and a couple others had to be tweaked to allow for various outputs.

Oliver Stannard 5e03a4b837 Add backend dignostic printer for unsupported features
The related LLVM patch adds a backend diagnostic type for reporting
unsupported features, this adds a printer for them to clang.

In the case where debug location information is not available, I've
changed the printer to report the location as the first line of the
function, rather than the closing brace, as the latter does not give the
user any information. This also affects optimisation remarks.

Ehsan Akhgari d851833c9a [MSVC Compat] Only warn for unknown clang-cl arguments
Summary:
MSVC's driver accepts all unknown arguments but warns about them. clang
by default rejects all unknown arguments. This causes issues
specifically with build systems such as autoconf which liberally pass
things such as $LDFLAGS to the compiler and expect everything to work.
This patch teaches clang-cl to ignore unknown driver arguments.

If available, use the canonical template argument to fill in information for
template type diffing instead of attempting to special case and evaluate Expr's
for the value. Since those are the values used in template instantiation,
we don't have to worry about difference between our evaluator and theirs. Also
move the nullptr template arguments from DiffKind::Expression to
DiffKind::Declaration and allow DiffKind::Declaration to set an Expr. The only
effect that should result is that a named nullptr will show up as
'ptr aka nullptr' in diagnostics.

Reid Kleckner da30cff9ef [diagnostics] Avoid crashes while printing macro backtraces
When attempting to map a source into a given level of macro expansion,
this code was ignoring the possibility that the start and end of the
range might take wildly different paths through the tree of macro
expansions. It was assuming that the begin spelling location would
always precede the end spelling location, which is false. A macro can
easily transpose its arguments.

This also fixes a related issue where there are extra macro arguments
between the begin location and the end location. In this situation, we
now highlight the entire macro invocation.

Richard Smith a91de375f2 Promote a warning on ill-formed code (redeclaration missing an exception
specification) to an error. No compiler other than Clang seems to allow this,
and it doesn't seem like a useful thing to accept as an extension in general.

The current behavior was added for PR5957, where the problem was specifically
related to mismatches of the exception specification on the implicitly-declared
global operator new and delete. To retain that workaround, we downgrade the
error to an ExtWarn when the declaration is of a replaceable global allocation
function.

Now that this is an error, stop trying (and failing) to recover from a missing
computed noexcept specification. That recovery didn't work, and led to crashes
in code like the added testcase.

Nico Weber 728894340f Add -Wunused-local-typedef, a warning that finds unused local typedefs.
The warning warns on TypedefNameDecls -- typedefs and C++11 using aliases --
that are !isReferenced(). Since the isReferenced() bit on TypedefNameDecls
wasn't used for anything before this warning it wasn't always set correctly,
so this patch also adds a few missing MarkAnyDeclReferenced() calls in
various places for TypedefNameDecls.

This is made a bit complicated due to local typedefs possibly being used only
after their local scope has closed. Consider:

    template <class T>
    void template_fun(T t) {
      typename T::Foo s3foo;  // YYY
      (void)s3foo;
    }
    void template_fun_user() {
      struct Local {
        typedef int Foo;  // XXX
      } p;
      template_fun(p);
    }

Here the typedef in XXX is only used at end-of-translation unit, when YYY in
template_fun() gets instantiated. To handle this, typedefs that are unused when
their scope exits are added to a set of potentially unused typedefs, and that
set gets checked at end-of-TU. Typedefs that are still unused at that point then
get warned on. There's also serialization code for this set, so that the
warning works with precompiled headers and modules. For modules, the warning
is emitted when the module is built, for precompiled headers each time the
header gets used.

Finally, consider a function using C++14 auto return types to return a local
type defined in a header:

    auto f() {
      struct S { typedef int a; };
      return S();
    }

Here, the typedef escapes its local scope and could be used by only some
translation units including the header. To not warn on this, add a
RecursiveASTVisitor that marks all delcs on local types returned from auto
functions as referenced. (Except if it's a function with internal linkage, or
the decls are private and the local type has no friends -- in these cases, it
_is_ safe to warn.)

Several of the included testcases (most of the interesting ones) were provided
by Richard Smith.

(gcc's spelling -Wunused-local-typedefs is supported as an alias for this
warning.)

Tyler Nowicki f8a767df67 Recommit: Handle diagnostic warnings in Frontend diagnostic handler.
Clang uses a diagnostic handler to grab diagnostic messages so it can print them
with the line of source code they refer to. This patch extends this to handle
optimization failures that were added to llvm to produce a warning when
loop vectorization is explicitly specified (using a pragma clang loop directive)
but fails.

Update renames warning flag name to avoid indicating the flag's severity and
adds a test.

Saleem Abdulrasool c68237bc2c Driver: bifurcate extended and basic MSC versioning
This restores the original behaviour of -fmsc-version. The older option
remains as a mechanism for specifying the basic version information. A
secondary option, -fms-compatibility-version permits the user to specify an
extended version to the driver.

The new version takes the value as a dot-separated value rather than the
major * 100 + minor format that -fmsc-version format. This makes it easier to
specify the value as well as a more flexible manner for specifying the value.

Specifying both values is considered an error.

The older parameter is left solely as a driver option, which is normalised into
the newer parameter. This allows us to retain a single code path in the
compiler itself whilst preserving the semantics of the old parameter as well as
avoid having to determine which of two formats are being used by the invocation.

The test changes are due to the fact that the compiler no longer supports the
old option, and is a direct conversion to the new option.

Although this is nominally a -W option, we actually handle it in the driver
exactly as an f-group flag that's translated directly to -mllvm.

That means f_Group (and unintuitively, not W_Group) has the semantics we want
to make it behave like a standard warning flag: no automatic forwarding, no
warning for link invocations and compile-only.

Silences diagnostics like:

This commit adds infrastructure to perform reverse lookup from mangled names
emitted after LLVM IR generation. We use that to resolve precise locations and
originating AST functions, lambdas or block declarations to produce seamless
codegen-guided diagnostics.

An associated change, StringMap now maintains unique mangled name strings
instead of allocating copies. This is a net memory saving in C++ and a small
hit for C where we no longer reuse IdentifierInfo storage, pending further
optimisation.

Hans Wennborg cda4b6dd00 Change semantics of regex expectations in the diagnostic verifier
Previously, a line like

  // expected-error-re {{foo}}

treats the entirety of foo as a regex. This is inconvenient when matching type
names containing regex characters. For example, to match
"void *(class test8::A::*)(void)" inside such a regex, one would have to type
"void \*\(class test8::A::\*\)\(void\)".

This patch changes the semantics of expected-error-re to only treat the parts
of the directive wrapped in double curly braces as regexes. This avoids the
escaping problem and leads to nicer patterns for those cases; see e.g. the
change to test/Sema/format-strings-scanf.c.

(The balanced search for closing }} of a directive also makes us handle the
full directive in test\SemaCXX\constexpr-printing.cpp:41 and :53.)

Andy Gibbs fcc699aee8 Extended VerifyDiagnosticConsumer to also verify source file for diagnostic.
VerifyDiagnosticConsumer previously would not check that the diagnostic and
its matching directive referenced the same source file. Common practice was
to create directives that referenced other files but only by line number,
and this led to problems such as when the file containing the directive
didn't have enough lines to match the location of the diagnostic in the
other file, leading to bizarre file formatting and other oddities.

This patch causes VerifyDiagnosticConsumer to match source files as well as
line numbers. Therefore, a new syntax is made available for directives, for
example:

// expected-error@file:line {{diagnostic message}}

This extends the @line feature where "file" is the file where the diagnostic
is generated. The @line syntax is still available and uses the current file
for the diagnostic. "file" can be specified either as a relative or absolute
path - although the latter has less usefulness, I think! The #include search
paths will be used to locate the file and if it is not found an error will be
generated.

The new check is not optional: if the directive is in a different file to the
diagnostic, the file must be specified. Therefore, a number of test-cases
have been updated with regard to this.

This closes out PR15613.

This also removes my previous tweak from r166522/r166534, so that we warn on
unused cast expressions in macro arguments.

There were several test cases that were using -Wunused-value to test general
diagnostic emission features; I changed those to use other warnings or warn on
a macro argument expression. I stared at the test case for PR14399 for a while

Eli Friedman cdb135a96b More hacking on mapDiagnosticRanges to make it handle more cases.
This still isn't quite right, but it fixes a crash.

I factored out findCommonParent because we need it on the result of
getImmediateExpansionRange: for a function macro, the beginning
and end of an expansion range can come out of different
macros/macro arguments, which means the resulting range is a complete
mess to handle consistently.

I also made some changes to how findCommonParent works; it works somewhat
better in some cases, and somewhat worse in others, but I think overall
it's a better balance. I'm coming to the conclusion that mapDiagnosticRanges
isn't using the right algorithm, though: chasing the caret is fundamentally
more complicated than any algorithm which only considers one FileID for the
caret can handle because each SourceLocation doesn't really have a single parent.
We need to follow the same path of choosing expansion locations and spelling
locations which the caret used to come up with the correct range
in the general case.

2012-07-07 02:48:02 +00:00
Ted Kremenek 9877f689f2 Implement -Wpedantic and --no-pedantic to complement -Weverything.
This patch introduces some magic in tablegen to create a "Pedantic" diagnostic
group which automagically includes all warnings that are extensions. This
allows a user to suppress specific warnings traditionally under -pedantic used
an ordinary warning flag. This also allows users to use #pragma to silence
specific -pedantic warnings, or promote them to errors, within blocks of text
(just like any other warning).

-Wpedantic is NOT an alias for -pedantic. Instead, it provides another way
to (a) activate -pedantic warnings and (b) disable them. Where they differ
is that -pedantic changes the behavior of the preprocessor slightly, whereas
-Wpedantic does not (it just turns on the warnings).

The magic in the tablegen diagnostic emitter has to do with computing the minimal
set of diagnostic groups and diagnostics that should go into -Wpedantic, as those
diagnostics that already members of groups that themselves are (transitively) members
of -Wpedantic do not need to be included in the Pedantic group directly. I went
back and forth on whether or not to magically generate this group, and the invariant
was that we always wanted extension warnings to be included in -Wpedantic "some how",
but the bookkeeping would be very onerous to manage by hand.

-no-pedantic (and --no-pedantic) is included for completeness, and matches many of the
same kind of flags the compiler already supports. It does what it says: cancels out
-pedantic. One discrepancy is that if one specifies --no-pedantic and -Weverything or
-Wpedantic the pedantic warnings are still enabled (essentially the -W flags win). We
can debate the correct behavior here.

Along the way, this patch nukes some code in TextDiagnosticPrinter.cpp and CXStoredDiagnostic.cpp
that determine whether to include the "-pedantic" flag in the warning output. This is
no longer needed, as all extensions now have a -W flag.

This patch also significantly reduces the number of warnings not under flags from 229
to 158 (all extension warnings).  That's a 31% reduction.

Richard Trieu dc3559106b Moved the StringLiteral printing code from StmtPrinter into the StringLiteral
class and have StmtPrinter and StmtDumper refer to it. This fixes an
assertion failure when dumping wchar string literals.

Jordan Rose de1a29277e Disable _Pragma during HTML macro rewriting to keep from crashing.
The preprocessor's handling of diagnostic push/pops is stateful, so
encountering pragmas during a re-parse causes problems. HTMLRewrite
already filters out normal # directives including #pragma, so it's
clear it's not expected to be interpreting pragmas in this mode.

This fix adds a flag to Preprocessor to explicitly disable pragmas.
The "right" fix might be to separate pragma lexing from pragma
parsing so that we can throw away pragmas like we do preprocessor
directives, but right now it's important to get the fix in.

Note that this has nothing to do with the "hack" of re-using the
input preprocessor in HTMLRewrite. Even if we someday copy the
preprocessor instead of re-using it, the copy would (and should) include
the diagnostic level tables and have the same problems.
