Dmitri Gribenko 4bf8632c45 check_clang_tidy.py now passes `-format-style=none` to clang_tidy
Summary:
If the test does not specify a formatting style, force "none"; otherwise
autodetection logic can discover a ".clang-tidy" file that is not
related to the test.

Kadir Cetinkaya 40177ac6d1 [clangd] Bump index version and get rid of wrong assertion
Summary:
After rL360344, BackgroundIndex expects symbols with zero refcounts.
Therefore existing index files are no longer valid.

Assertion regarding finding target of a reference was wrong, since
background-index might still be going on or we might've loaded only some part of
the shards and might be missing the declaring shards for the symbol.

Kadir Cetinkaya 70674549f1 [clangd] Count number of references while merging RefSlabs inside FileIndex
Summary:
For counting number of references clangd was relying on merging every
duplication of a symbol. Unfortunately this does not apply to FileIndex(and one
of its users' BackgroundIndex), since we get rid of duplication by simply
dropping symbols coming from non-canonical locations. So only one or two(coming
from canonical declaration header and defined source file, if exists)
replications of the same symbol reaches merging step.

This patch changes reference counting logic to rather count number of different
RefSlabs a given SymbolID exists.

Adam Balogh 62468003ef [clang-tidy] Extend bugprone-sizeof-expression check to detect sizeof misuse in pointer arithmetic
Some programmers tend to forget that subtracting two pointers results in the
difference between them in number of elements of the pointee type instead of
bytes. This leads to codes such as `size_t size = (p - q) / sizeof(int)` where
`p` and `q` are of type `int*`. Or similarily, `if (p - q < buffer_size *
sizeof(int)) { ... }`. This patch extends `bugprone-sizeof-expression` to
detect such cases.

Sam McCall b804eef090 [clangd] Move clangd tests to clangd directory. check-clangd is no longer part of check-clang-tools.
Summary:
Motivation:
 - this layout is a pain to work with
 - without a common root, it's painful to express things like "disable clangd" (D61122)
 - CMake/lit configs are a maintenance hazard, and the more the one-off hacks
   for various tools are entangled, the more we see apathy and non-ownership.

This attempts to use the bare-minimum configuration needed (while still
supporting the difficult cases: windows, standalone clang build, dynamic libs).
In particular the lit.cfg.py and lit.site.cfg.py.in are merged into lit.cfg.in.
The logic in these files is now minimal.

(Much of clang-tools-extra's lit configs can probably be cleaned up by reusing
lit.llvm.llvm_config.use_clang(), and every llvm project does its own version of
LDPATH mangling. I haven't attempted to fix any of those).

Docs are still in clang-tools-extra/docs, I don't have any plans to touch those.

Stephane Moore b0c1f8c09e [clang-tidy] Add a check for [super self] in initializers 🔍
Summary:
This check aims to address a relatively common benign error where
Objective-C subclass initializers call -self on their superclass instead
of invoking a superclass initializer, typically -init. The error is
typically benign because libobjc recognizes that improper initializer
chaining is common¹.

One theory for the frequency of this error might be that -init and -self
have the same return type which could potentially cause inappropriate
autocompletion to -self instead of -init. The equal selector lengths and
triviality of common initializer code probably contribute to errors like
this slipping through code review undetected.

This check aims to flag errors of this form in the interests of
correctness and reduce incidence of initialization failing to chain to
-[NSObject init].

[1] "In practice, it will be hard to rely on this function.
     Many classes do not properly chain -init calls."
From  _objc_rootInit in https://opensource.apple.com/source/objc4/objc4-750.1/runtime/NSObject.mm.auto.html.

Test Notes:

Haojian Wu f2879d8a48 [clang-tidy] Add fix descriptions to clang-tidy checks.
Summary:
Motivation/Context: in the code review system integrating with clang-tidy,
clang-tidy doesn't provide a human-readable description of the fix. Usually
developers have to preview a code diff (before vs after apply the fix) to
understand what the fix does before applying a fix.

This patch proposes that each clang-tidy check provides a short and
actional fix description that can be shown in the UI, so that users can know
what the fix does without previewing diff.

This patch extends clang-tidy framework to support fix descriptions (will add implementations for
existing checks in the future). Fix descriptions and fixes are emitted via diagnostic::Note (rather than
attaching the main warning diagnostic).

Before this patch:

```
void MyCheck::check(...) {
   ...
   diag(loc, "my check warning") <<  FixtItHint::CreateReplacement(...);
}
```

After:

```
void MyCheck::check(...) {
   ...
   diag(loc, "my check warning"); // Emit a check warning
   diag(loc, "fix description", DiagnosticIDs::Note) << FixtItHint::CreateReplacement(...); // Emit a diagnostic note and a fix
}
Sam McCall 62e2472321 [clangd] Include insertion: require header guards, drop other heuristics, treat .def like .inc.
Summary:
We do have some reports of include insertion behaving badly in some
codebases. Requiring header guards both makes sense in principle, and is
likely to disable this "nice-to-have" feature in codebases where headers don't
follow the expected pattern.
With this we can drop some other heuristics, such as looking at file
extensions to detect known non-headers - implementation files have no guards.
One wrinkle here is #import - objc headers may not have guards because
they're intended to be used via #import. If the header is the main file
or is #included, we won't collect locations - merge should take care of
this if we see the file #imported somewhere. Seems likely to be OK.
Headers which have a canonicalization (stdlib, IWYU) are exempt from this check.
*.inc files continue to be handled by looking up to the including file.
This patch also adds *.def here - tablegen wants this pattern too.
In terms of code structure, the division between SymbolCollector and
CanonicalIncludes has shifted: SymbolCollector is responsible for more.
This is because SymbolCollector has all the SourceManager/HeaderSearch access
needed for checking for guards, and we interleave these checks with the *.def
checks in a loop (potentially).
We could hand all the info into CanonicalIncludes and put the logic there
if that's preferable.
Summary:
The bugprone-too-small-loop-variable check often catches loop variables which can represent "big enough" values, so we don't actually need to worry about that this variable will overflow in a loop when the code iterates through a container. For example a 32 bit signed integer type's maximum value is 2 147 483 647 and a container's size won't reach this maximum value in most of the cases.
So the idea of this option to allow the user to specify an upper limit (using magnitude bit of the integer type) to filter out those catches which are not interesting for the user, so he/she can focus on the more risky integer incompatibilities.
Next to the option I replaced the term "positive bits" to "magnitude bits" which seems a better naming both in the code and in the name of the new option.
waiting. This allows clangd to perform naive code completion e.g. using identifiers
in the current file or symbols in the index.
This patch simply returns empty result for code completion in fallback mode. Identifier-based
plus more advanced index-based completion will be added in followup patches.
Nico Weber 04347d848d Make SourceManager::createFileID(UnownedTag, ...) take a const llvm::MemoryBuffer*
Requires making the llvm::MemoryBuffer* stored by SourceManager const,
which in turn requires making the accessors for that return const
llvm::MemoryBuffer*s and updating all call sites.
The original motivation for this was to use it and fix the TODO in
CodeGenAction.cpp's ConvertBackendLocation() by using the UnownedTag
version of createFileID, and since llvm::SourceMgr* hands out a const
llvm::MemoryBuffer* this is required. I'm not sure if fixing the TODO
this way actually works, but this seems like a good change on its own
anyways.
No intended behavior change.
Nico Weber fee435702d gn build: Add build files for clangd xpc framework code
This is a bit of a larger change since this is the first (and as far as
I can tell only) place where the LLVM build produces macOS framework
bundles.
GN has some built-in support for this, so use that.
`gn help create_bundle` has a terse description (but it's a bit
outdated: `deps` must be `public_deps` and the conditionals in the
example in the help aren't quite right on non-iOS).
We need a new 'copy_bundle_data' tool, and since we copy the clangd.xpc
bundle as bundle_data into ClangdXPC.framework it needs to be able to
handle directories in addition to files.
GN also insists we have a compile_xcassets tool even though it's not
used. I just made that run `false`.
Despite GN's support for bundles, we still need to manually create the
expected symlink structure in the .framework bundle. Since this code
never runs on Windows, it's safe to create the symlinks before the
symlink targets exist, so we can just make the bundle depend on the
steps that create the symlinks. For this to work, change the symlink
script to create the symlink's containing directory if it doesn't yet
exist.
I locally verified that CMake and GN build create the same bundle
structure. (I noticed that both builds set LC_ID_DYLIB to the pre-copy
libClangdXPCLib.dylib name, but that seems to not cause any issues and
it happens in the CMake build too.)
(Also add an error message to clangd-xpc-test-client for when loading
the dylib fails – this was useful while locally debugging this.)
Stephane Moore 5f70c473c9 [clang-tidy] Disable google-runtime-int in Objective-C++ 🔓
Summary:
In contrast to Google C++, Objective-C often uses built-in integer types
other than `int`. In fact, the Objective-C runtime itself defines the
types NSInteger¹ and NSUInteger² which are variant types depending on
the target architecture. The Objective-C style guide indicates that
usage of system types with variant sizes is appropriate when handling
values provided by system interfaces³. Objective-C++ is commonly the
result of conversion from Objective-C to Objective-C++ for the purpose
of integrating C++ functionality. The opposite of Objective-C++ being
used to expose Objective-C functionality to C++ is less common,
potentially because Objective-C has a signficantly more uneven presence
on different platforms compared to C++. This generally predisposes
Objective-C++ to commonly being more Objective-C than C++. Forcing
Objective-C++ developers to perform conversions between variant system types
and fixed size integer types depending on target architecture when
Objective-C++ commonly uses variant system types from Objective-C is
likely to lead to more bugs and overhead than benefit. For that reason,
this change proposes to disable google-runtime-int in Objective-C++.
Summary:
To reduce the gap between prefix and initialism matches.
The motivation is producing better scoring in one particular example,
but the change does not seem to cause large regressions in other cases.
The examples is matching 'up' against 'unique_ptr' and 'upper_bound'.
Before the change, we had:
  - "[u]nique_[p]tr" with a score of 0.3,
  - "[up]per_bound" with a score of 1.0.
A 3x difference meant that symbol quality signals were almost always ignored
and 'upper_bound' was always ranked higher.
However, intuitively, the match scores should be very close for the two.
After the change we have the following scores:
- "[u]nique_[p]tr" with a score of 0.75,
- "[up]per_bound" with a score of 1.0.
The mapping is not completed, a few TODOs:
  - support symbols from different headers (e.g. std::move)
  - support STL macros
  - support symbols from std's sub-namespaces (e.g. chrono)
Code like:
```

    }
```
is reformatted to be
```
  if (true)
    var++;
  else {
    var--;
  }
```
Even when `AllowShortIfStatementsOnASingleLine` is true
The following revision comes from a +1'd suggestion in the PR to support AllowShortIfElseStatementsOnASingleLine
This suppresses the clause prevents the merging of the if when there is a compound else
