The new Darwin backend for LLD is now able to link reasonably large
real-world programs on x86_64. For instance, we have achieved
self-hosting for the X86_64 target, where all LLD tests pass when
building lld with itself on macOS. As such, we would like to make it the
default back-end.
The new port is now named `ld64.lld`, and the old port remains
accessible as `ld64.lld.darwinold`
This [annoucement email][1] has some context. (But note that, unlike
what the email says, we are no longer doing this as part of the LLVM 12
branch cut -- instead we will go into LLVM 13.)
Numerous mechanical test changes were required to make this change; in
the interest of creating something that's reviewable on Phabricator,
I've split out the boring changes into a separate diff (D95905). I plan to
merge its contents with those in this diff before landing.
(@gkm made the original draft of this diff, and he has agreed to let me
take over.)

If you have the string /usr/bin, prior to this patch it would not
be quoted by our YAML serializer. But a string like C:\src would
be, due to the presence of a backslash. This makes the quoting
rules of basically every single file path different depending on
the path syntax (posix vs. Windows).
While technically not required by the YAML specification to quote
forward slashes, when the behavior of paths is inconsistent it
makes it difficult to portably write FileCheck lines that will
work with either kind of path.

This reverts commit b86c16ad8c97dadc1f529da72a5bb74e9eaed344.
This is being reverted because I forgot to write a useful
commit message, so I'm going to resubmit it with an actual
commit message.

These references are used to implement MachO/x64-64 subtractor relocations
where the minuend is being fixed up, rather than the subtrahend. The 64-bit
version was not previously supported, the 32-bit version was partially
implemented but contained bugs not caught by existing test cases. This
patch fixes both functionality and test coverage.

When generating a relocatable file, its only valid to set this flag if
all of the inputs also had the flag. Otherwise we may atomize incorrectly
when we link the relocatable file again.

The final section order in relocatable files was just a side effect
of the atom sorter. This meant that sections like __data were before
__text because __data has RW permissions and __text RX and RW was less
than RX in our enum.
Final linked images had an actual section/segment sorter. There was no
reason for the difference, so simplify a bunch of code and just use the
same sorted for everything.

The assembly at the top of this file contained more relocations than
the YAML. I regenerated it so that we'd have complete relocation testing.
Also added detailed explanations of the relocations in the file so that
future people don't have to try decode them when something goes wrong.

All compiler generated mach-o object files are marked with MH_SUBSECTIONS_VIA_SYMBOLS.
But hand written assembly files need to opt-in if they are written correctly.
The flag means the linker can break up a sections at symbol addresses and
dead strip or re-order functions.
This change recognizes object files without the flag and marks its atoms as
not dead strippable and adds a layout-after chain of references so that the
atoms cannot be re-ordered.
llvm-svn: 220348
Add support for adding section relocations in -r mode. Enhance the test
cases which validate the parsing of .o files to also round trip. They now
write out the .o file and then parse that, verifying all relocations survived
the round trip.
llvm-svn: 213333
This is first step in reworking how mach-o relocations are processed.
The existing KindHandler is going to become a delgate/helper object for
processing architecture specific references. The KindHandler knows how
to convert mach-o relocations into References and back, as well, as fixing
up the content the relocation is on.
One of the messy things about mach-o relocations is that they sometime
come in pairs, but the pairs still convert to one lld::Reference. So, the
conversion has to detect pairs (arch specific) and change the stride.
