Pavel Labath 9154a6398e [llvm/Support] Make more DataExtractor methods error-aware
Summary:
This patch adds the optional Error argument, and the Cursor variants to
more DataExtractor methods. The functions now behave the same way as
other error-aware functions (they set the error when they fail, and
don't do anything if the error is already set).

I have merged the LEB128 implementations via a template (similarly to
how fixed-size functions are handled) to reduce code duplication.

Summary:
This patch adds an optional Error argument to DataExtractor functions
for string extraction, and makes them behave like other DataExtractor
functions (set the error if extraction fails, don't do anything if the

Sylvain Audi e4ae0a2e97 [Support/Path] sys::path::replace_path_prefix fix and simplifications
Added unit tests for 2 scenarios that were failing.
Made replace_path_prefix back to 3 parameters instead of 5, simplifying the implementation. The other 2 were always used with the default value.

This commit is intended to be the first of 3:
1) simplify/fix replace_path_prefix.
2) use it in the context of -fdebug-prefix-map and -fmacro-prefix-map (see D76869).
3) Make Windows version of replace_path_prefix insensitive to both case and separators (slash vs backslash).

Jonas Devlieghere 3ef33e69de [VirtualFileSystem] Support directory entries in the YAMLVFSWriter
The current implementation of the JSONWriter does not support writing
out directory entries. Earlier today I added a unit test to illustrate
the problem. When an entry is added to the YAMLVFSWriter and the path is
a directory, it will incorrectly emit the directory as a file, and any
files inside that directory will not be found by the VFS.

It's possible to partially work around the issue by only adding "leaf
nodes" (files) to the YAMLVFSWriter. However, this doesn't work for
representing empty directories. This is a problem for clients of the VFS
that want to iterate over a directory. The directory not being there is
not the same as the directory being empty.

This is not just a hypothetical problem. The FileCollector for example
does not differentiate between file and directory paths. I temporarily
worked around the issue for LLDB by ignoring directories, but I suspect
this will prove problematic sooner rather than later.

This patch fixes the issue by extending the JSONWriter to support
writing out directory entries. We store whether an entry should be
emitted as a file or directory.

John McCall 49e5a97ec3 Add an algorithm for performing "optimal" layout of a struct.
The algorithm supports both assigning a fixed offset to a field prior to
layout and allowing fields to have sizes that aren't multiples of their
required alignments.  This means that the well-known algorithm of sorting
by decreasing alignment isn't always good enough.  Still, we start with
that, and only if that leaves padding around do we fall back on a greedy
padding-minimizing algorithm.

There is no known efficient algorithm for producing a guaranteed-minimal
layout in all cases.  In fact, allowing arbitrary fixed-offset fields means
there's a straightforward reduction from bin-packing, making this NP-hard.
But as usual with such problems, we can still efficiently produce adequate
solutions to the cases that matter most to us.

I intend to use this in coroutine frame layout, where the retcon lowerings
very badly want to minimize total space usage, and where the switch lowering
can indeed produce a header with interior padding if the promise field is
highly-aligned.  But it may be useful in a much wider variety of situations.

Add a unit test for vfs::YAMLVFSWriter.

This patch exposes an issue in the writer: when we call addFileMapping
with a directory, the VFS writer will emit it as a regular file, causing
any of the nested files or directories to not be found.

Andrew Ng e6f6c55121 [Support] Improve Windows widenPath and add support for long UNC paths
Check the path length limit against the length of the UTF-16 version of
the input rather than the UTF-8 equivalent, as the UTF-16 length may be
shorter. Move widenPath from the llvm::sys::path namespace in Path.h to
the llvm::sys::windows namespace in WindowsSupport.h. Only use the
reduced path length limit for create directory. Canonicalize using
sys::path::remove_dots().

Previous implementation code was using + operator instead of | to combine

results, which is a problem when shifting signed values. (0xFF << 16) is
implicitly converted to a (signed) int, and thus results in 0xffff0000,
h is
negative. Combining negative numbers with a + in that context is not what we
want to do.

This is a recommit of 5a1958f267 with UB removved.

This fixes https://github.com/llvm/llvm-project/issues/149.

Reid Kleckner af450eabb9 Avoid including FileSystem.h from MemoryBuffer.h
Lots of headers pass around MemoryBuffer objects, but very few open
them. Let those that do include FileSystem.h.

Saves ~250 includes of Chrono.h & FileSystem.h:

Reid Kleckner e3a9b0f359 [Support] Remove byte swapping from MathExtras.h
MathExtras.h was just wrapping SwapByteOrder.h functionality, so have
the callers use it directly.  Use the MathExtras.h name (ByteSwap_NN) as
the standard naming, since it appears to be the most popular.

Greg Clayton df8dda67ed Add methods to data extractor for extracting bytes and fixed length C strings.
Summary:
These modificaitons will be used in D74883.

Fixed length C strings can have trailing NULLs or sometimes spaces (BSD archive files), so the fixed length C string defaults to stripping trailing NULLs, but can have the arguments specify to remove one or more kinds of spaces if needed. This is used to extract fixed length C strings from ELF NOTEs in D74883.

Pavel Labath b55c58a2d5 [Error/unittests] Add a FailedWithMessage gtest matcher
Summary:
We already have a "Failed" matcher, which can be used to check any
property of the Error object. However, most frequently one just wants to
check the error message, and while this is possible with the "Failed"
matcher, it is also very convoluted
(Failed<ErrorInfoBase>(testing::Property(&ErrorInfoBase::message, "the
message"))).

Now, one can just write: FailedWithMessage("the message"). I expect that
most of the usages will remain this simple, but the argument of the
matcher is not limited to simple strings -- the argument of the matcher
can be any other matcher, so one can write more complicated assertions
if needed (FailedWithMessage(ContainsRegex("foo|bar"))). If one wants to
match multiple error messages, he can pass multiple arguments to the
matcher.

If one wants to match the message list as a whole (perhaps to check the
message count), I've also included a FailedWithMessageArray matcher,
which takes a single matcher receiving a vector of error message
strings.

Alexandre Ganea 8404aeb56a [Support] On Windows, ensure hardware_concurrency() extends to all CPU sockets and all NUMA groups
The goal of this patch is to maximize CPU utilization on multi-socket or high core count systems, so that parallel computations such as LLD/ThinLTO can use all hardware threads in the system. Before this patch, on Windows, a maximum of 64 hardware threads could be used at most, in some cases dispatched only on one CPU socket.

== Background ==
Windows doesn't have a flat cpu_set_t like Linux. Instead, it projects hardware CPUs (or NUMA nodes) to applications through a concept of "processor groups". A "processor" is the smallest unit of execution on a CPU, that is, an hyper-thread if SMT is active; a core otherwise. There's a limit of 32-bit processors on older 32-bit versions of Windows, which later was raised to 64-processors with 64-bit versions of Windows. This limit comes from the affinity mask, which historically is represented by the sizeof(void*). Consequently, the concept of "processor groups" was introduced for dealing with systems with more than 64 hyper-threads.

By default, the Windows OS assigns only one "processor group" to each starting application, in a round-robin manner. If the application wants to use more processors, it needs to programmatically enable it, by assigning threads to other "processor groups". This also means that affinity cannot cross "processor group" boundaries; one can only specify a "preferred" group on start-up, but the application is free to allocate more groups if it wants to.

This creates a peculiar situation, where newer CPUs like the AMD EPYC 7702P (64-cores, 128-hyperthreads) are projected by the OS as two (2) "processor groups". This means that by default, an application can only use half of the cores. This situation could only get worse in the years to come, as dies with more cores will appear on the market.

== The problem ==
The heavyweight_hardware_concurrency() API was introduced so that only *one hardware thread per core* was used. Once that API returns, that original intention is lost, only the number of threads is retained. Consider a situation, on Windows, where the system has 2 CPU sockets, 18 cores each, each core having 2 hyper-threads, for a total of 72 hyper-threads. Both heavyweight_hardware_concurrency() and hardware_concurrency() currently return 36, because on Windows they are simply wrappers over std:🧵:hardware_concurrency() -- which can only return processors from the current "processor group".

== The changes in this patch ==
To solve this situation, we capture (and retain) the initial intention until the point of usage, through a new ThreadPoolStrategy class. The number of threads to use is deferred as late as possible, until the moment where the std::threads are created (ThreadPool in the case of ThinLTO).

When using hardware_concurrency(), setting ThreadCount to 0 now means to use all the possible hardware CPU (SMT) threads. Providing a ThreadCount above to the maximum number of threads will have no effect, the maximum will be used instead.
The heavyweight_hardware_concurrency() is similar to hardware_concurrency(), except that only one thread per hardware *core* will be used.

When LLVM_ENABLE_THREADS is OFF, the threading APIs will always return 1, to ensure any caller loops will be exercised at least once.

Justin Lebar fb45968e62 Use C++14-style return type deduction in LLVM.
Summary:
Simplifies the C++11-style "-> decltype(...)" return-type deduction.

Note that you have to be careful about whether the function return type
is `auto` or `decltype(auto)`.  The difference is that bare `auto`
strips const and reference, just like lambda return type deduction.  In
some cases that's what we want (or more likely, we know that the return
type is a value type), but whenever we're wrapping a templated function
which might return a reference, we need to be sure that the return type
is decltype(auto).

No functional change.

Hans Wennborg 6c4a8bc0a9 Make llvm::crc32() work also for input sizes larger than 32 bits.
The problem was noticed by the Chrome OS toolchain folks
(crbug.com/1048445) because llvm-objcopy --add-gnu-debuglink would
insert the wrong checksum when processing a binary larger than 4 GB.
That use case regressed in 1e1e3ba252 when we started using
llvm::crc32() in more places.

Adrian McCarthy da45bd2321 [VFS] More consistent support for Windows
Removed some #ifdefs specific to Windows handling of VFS paths.  This
eliminates most of the differences between the Windows and non-Windows
code paths.

Making this work required some changes to account for the fact that VFS
file paths can be Posix style or Windows style, so you cannot just assume
that they use the host's native path style.  In one case, this means
implementing our own version of make_absolute, since the filesystem code
in Support doesn't have styles in the sense that the path code does.

Disable the red zone in the unit test allocator to fix the test errors in sanitizer builds.
The red zone changed the amount of allocated bytes which made the test fail as it
checked the number of allocated bytes of the allocator.

Raphael Isemann b848b510a8 [llvm] Add a way to speed up the speed in which BumpPtrAllocator increases slab sizes
Summary:
In D68549 we noticed that our BumpPtrAllocator we use for LLDB's ConstString implementation is growing its slabs at
a rate that is too slow for our use case. It causes that we spend a lot of time calling `malloc` for all the tiny slabs that our
ConstString BumpPtrAllocators create. We also can't just increase the slab size in the ConstString implementation
(which is what D68549 originally did) as this really increased the amount of (mostly unused) allocated memory
in any process using ConstString.

This patch adds a template argument for the BumpPtrAllocatorImpl that allows specifying a faster rate at which the
BumpPtrAllocator increases the slab size. This allows LLDB to specify a faster rate at which the slabs grow which

Benjamin Kramer adcd026838 Make llvm::StringRef to std::string conversions explicit.
This is how it should've been and brings it more in line with
std::string_view. There should be no functional change here.

This is mostly mechanical from a custom clang-tidy check, with a lot of
manual fixups. It uncovers a lot of minor inefficiencies.

This doesn't actually modify StringRef yet, I'll do that in a follow-up.

StringMap.h is very popular (4K uses), and it doesn't need to see
BumpPtrAllocator, which is relatively expensive according to
ClangBuildAnalyzer. StringMap only needs MallocAllocator, so split that
into AllocatorBase.h and use it instead.

Thomas Preud'homme 8e96697c7d FileCheck [9/12]: Add support for matching formats
Summary:
This patch is part of a patch series to add support for FileCheck
numeric expressions. This specific patch adds support for selecting a
matching format to match a numeric value against (ie. decimal, hex lower
case letters or hex upper case letters).

This commit allows to select what format a numeric value should be
matched against. The following formats are supported: decimal value,
lower case hex value and upper case hex value. Matching formats impact
both the format of numeric value to be matched as well as the format of
accepted numbers in a definition with empty numeric expression
constraint.

Default for absence of format is decimal value unless the numeric
expression constraint is non null and use a variable in which case the
format is the one used to define that variable. Conclict of format in
case of several variable being used is diagnosed and forces the user to
select a matching format explicitely.

This commit also enables immediates in numeric expressions to be in any
radix known to StringRef's GetAsInteger method, except for legacy
numeric expressions (ie [[@LINE+<offset>]] which only support decimal
immediates.

James Henderson b6ffa2fe12 [DebugInfo][Support] Replace DWARFDataExtractor size function
This patch adds a new size function to the base DataExtractor class,
which removes the need for the DWARFDataExtractor size function.

It is unclear why DWARFDataExtractor's size function returned zero in
some circumstances (i.e. when it is constructed without a section, and
with a different data source instead), so that behaviour has changed.
The old behaviour could cause an assertion in the debug line parser, as
the size did not reflect the actual data available, and could be lower
than the current offset being parsed.

Alexandre Ganea a1f16998f3 [Support] Optionally call signal handlers when a function wrapped by the the CrashRecoveryContext fails
This patch allows for handling a failure inside a CrashRecoveryContext in the same way as the global exception/signal handler. A failure will have the same side-effect, such as cleanup of temporarty file, printing callstack, calling relevant signal handlers, and finally returning an exception code. This is an optional feature, disabled by default.

Tim Northover 903e5c3028 AArch64: add missing Apple CPU names and use them by default.
Apple's CPUs are called A7-A13 in official communication, occasionally with
weird suffixes which we probably don't need to care about. This adds each one
and describes its features. It also switches the default CPU to the canonical
name for Cyclone, but leaves legacy support in so that existing bitcode still
compiles.

Saleem Abdulrasool abb0075306 build: reduce CMake handling for zlib
Rather than handling zlib handling manually, use `find_package` from CMake
to find zlib properly. Use this to normalize the `LLVM_ENABLE_ZLIB`,
`HAVE_ZLIB`, `HAVE_ZLIB_H`. Furthermore, require zlib if `LLVM_ENABLE_ZLIB` is
set to `YES`, which requires the distributor to explicitly select whether
zlib is enabled or not. This simplifies the CMake handling and usage in
the rest of the tooling.

This restores 68a235d07f,
e6c7ed6d21.  The problem with the windows
bot is a need for clearing the cache.

Remappings involving extern "C" names were already supported in the
context of <local-name>s, but this support didn't work for remapping the
complete mangling itself. (Eg, we would remap X<foo> but not foo itself,

Christian Sigg d5acc83a3a Implement LWG#1203 for raw_ostream.
Implement LWG#1203 (https://cplusplus.github.io/LWG/issue1203) for raw_ostream
like libc++ does for std::basic_ostream<...>.

Add a operator<< overload that takes an rvalue reference of a typed derived from
raw_ostream, streams the value to it and returns the stream of the same type as
the argument.

This allows free operator<< to work with rvalue reference raw_ostreams:
raw_ostream& operator<<(raw_ostream&, const SomeType& Value);
raw_os_ostream(std::cout) << SomeType();

It also allows using the derived type like:
auto Foo = (raw_string_ostream(buffer) << "foo").str();

David Green 4a6e13ad88 [CommandLine] Add missing Callbacks
It appears that the cl::bits options are not used anywhere in-tree. In
the recent addition to add Callback's to the options, the Callback was
missing from this one. This fixes it by adding the same code from the
other classes.

It also adds a simple test, of sorts, just to make sure these continue
compiling.

Add a new cl::callback attribute to Option.

This attribute specifies a callback function that is called when
an option is seen, and can be used to set other options, as in
option A implies option B.  If the option is a `cl::list`, and
`cl::CommaSeparated` is also specified, the callback will fire
once for each value.  This could be used to validate combinations
or selectively set other options.

as compared to a method with a name.

Note that not all `~Known.Zero` places were cleaned up,
only those where this arguably improves things.

Nick Terrell 43ff634772 [Support] Optimize SHA1 implementation
* Add inline to the helper functions because gcc-9 won't inline all of
  them without the hint. I've avoided `__attribute__((always_inline))`
  because gcc and clang will inline without it, and improves
  compatibility.
* Replace the byte-by-byte copy in update() with endian::readbe32()
  since perf reports that 1/2 of the time is spent copying into the
  buffer before this patch.

When lld uses --build-id=sha1 it spends 30-45% of CPU in SHA1 depending on the binary (not wall-time since it is parallel). This patch speeds up SHA1 by a factor of 2 on clang-8 and 3 on gcc-6. This leads to a >10% improvement in overall linking time.

lld-speed-test benchmarks run on an Intel i9-9900k with Turbo disabled on CPU 0 compiled with clang-9. Stats recorded with `perf stat -r 5`. All inputs are using `--build-id=sha1`.

Thomas Finch 092452d402 YAML parser robustness improvements
Summary: This patch fixes a number of bugs found in the YAML parser
through fuzzing. In general, this makes the parser more robust against
malformed inputs.

The fixes are mostly improved null checking and returning errors in
more cases. In some cases, asserts were changed to regular errors,
this provides the same robustness but also protects release builds
from the triggering conditions. This also improves the fuzzability of
the YAML parser since asserts can act as a roadblock to further
fuzzing once they're hit.

Each fix has a corresponding test case:
  - TestAnchorMapError - Added proper null pointer handling in
    `Stream::printError` if N is null and `KeyValueNode::getValue` if
    getKey returns null, `Input::createHNodes` `dyn_casts` changed to
    `dyn_cast_or_null` so the null pointer checks are actually able to
    fail
  - TestFlowSequenceTokenErrors - Added case in
    `Document::parseBlockNode` for FlowMappingEnd, FlowSequenceEnd, or
    FlowEntry tokens outside of mappings or sequences
  - TestDirectiveMappingNoValue - Changed assert to regular error
    return in `Scanner::scanValue`
  - TestUnescapeInfiniteLoop - Fixed infinite loop in
    `ScalarNode::unescapeDoubleQuoted` by returning an error for
    unrecognized escape codes
  - TestScannerUnexpectedCharacter - Changed asserts to regular error
    returns in `Scanner::consume`
  - TestUnknownDirective - For both of the inputs the stream doesn't
    fail and correctly returns TK_Error, but there is no valid root
    node for the document. There's no reasonable way to make the
    scanner fail for unknown directives without breaking the YAML spec
    (see spec-07-01.test). I think the assert is unnecessary given
    that an error is still generated for this case.

The `SimpleKeys.clear()` line fixes a bug found by AddressSanitizer
triggered by multiple test cases - when TokenQueue is cleared
SimpleKeys is still holding dangling pointers into it, so SimpleKeys
should be cleared as well.

Nick Terrell 6814232429 [LLD][ELF] Support --[no-]mmap-output-file with F_no_mmap
Summary:
Add a flag `F_no_mmap` to `FileOutputBuffer` to support
`--[no-]mmap-output-file` in ELF LLD. LLD currently explicitly ignores
this flag for compatibility with GNU ld and gold.

We need this flag to speed up link time for large binaries in certain
scenarios. When we link some of our larger binaries we find that LLD
takes 50+ GB of memory, which causes memory pressure. The memory
pressure causes the VM to flush dirty pages of the output file to disk.
This is normally okay, since we should be flushing cold pages. However,
when using BtrFS with compression we need to write 128KB at a time when
we flush a page. If any page in that 128KB block is written again, then
it must be flushed a second time, and so on. Since LLD doesn't write
sequentially this causes write amplification. The same 128KB block will
end up being flushed multiple times, causing the linker to many times
more IO than necessary. We've observed 3-5x faster builds with
-no-mmap-output-file when we hit this scenario.

The bad scenario only applies to compressed filesystems, which group
together multiple pages into a single compressed block. I've tested
BtrFS, but the problem will be present for any compressed filesystem
on Linux, since it is caused by the VM.

Silently ignoring --no-mmap-output-file caused a silent regression when
we switched from gold to lld. We pass --no-mmap-output-file to fix this
edge case, but since lld silently ignored the flag we didn't realize it
wasn't being respected.

Benchmark building a 9 GB binary that exposes this edge case. I linked 3
times with --mmap-output-file and 3 times with --no-mmap-output-file and
took the average. The machine has 24 cores @ 2.4 GHz, 112 GB of RAM,
BtrFS mounted with -compress-force=zstd, and an 80% full disk.

without mmap on this benchmark.

I was unable to reproduce the regression with any binaries in

Sam McCall 40668abca4 [Support] Add a way to run a function on a detached thread
This roughly mimics `std::thread(...).detach()` except it allows to
customize the stack size. Required for https://reviews.llvm.org/D50993.

I've decided against reusing the existing `llvm_execute_on_thread` because
it's not obvious what to do with the ownership of the passed
function/arguments:

1. If we pass possibly owning functions data to `llvm_execute_on_thread`,
   we'll lose the ability to pass small non-owning non-allocating functions
   for the joining case (as it's used now). Is it important enough?
2. If we use the non-owning interface in the new use case, we'll force
   clients to transfer ownership to the spawned thread manually, but
   similar code would still have to exist inside
   `llvm_execute_on_thread(_async)` anyway (as we can't just pass the same
   non-owning pointer to pthreads and Windows implementations, and would be
   forced to wrap it in some structure, and deal with its ownership.

Vedant Kumar 32ce14e55e Disable exit-on-SIGPIPE in lldb
Occasionally, during test teardown, LLDB writes to a closed pipe.
Sometimes the communication is inherently unreliable, so LLDB tries to
avoid being killed due to SIGPIPE (it calls `signal(SIGPIPE, SIG_IGN)`).
However, LLVM's default SIGPIPE behavior overrides LLDB's, causing it to
exit with IO_ERR.

Opt LLDB out of the default SIGPIPE behavior. I expect that this will
resolve some LLDB test suite flakiness (tests randomly failing with
IO_ERR) that we've seen since r344372.

Reland r375051 (reverted in r375052) after fixing lld tests on Windows in r375126 and r375131.

Original description: Update GlobPattern in libSupport to handle a few more cases. It does not fully match the `fnmatch` used by GNU objcopy since named character classes (e.g. `[[:digit:]]`) are not supported, but this should support most existing use cases (mostly just `*` is what's used anyway).

This will be used to implement the `--wildcard` flag in llvm-objcopy to be more compatible with GNU objcopy.

This is split off of D66613 to land the libSupport changes separately. The llvm-objcopy part will land soon.

Hans Wennborg 1e1e3ba252 Unify the two CRC implementations
David added the JamCRC implementation in r246590. More recently, Eugene
added a CRC-32 implementation in r357901, which falls back to zlib's
crc32 function if present.

These checksums are essentially the same, so having multiple
implementations seems unnecessary. This replaces the CRC-32
implementation with the simpler one from JamCRC, and implements the
JamCRC interface in terms of CRC-32 since this means it can use zlib's
implementation when available, saving a few bytes and potentially making
it faster.

JamCRC took an ArrayRef<char> argument, and CRC-32 took a StringRef.
This patch changes it to ArrayRef<uint8_t> which I think is the best
choice, and simplifies a few of the callers nicely.

Thomas Preud'homme a291b950db [FileCheck] Forbid using var defined on same line
Summary:
Commit r366897 introduced the possibility to set a variable from an
expression, such as [[#VAR2:VAR1+3]]. While introducing this feature, it
introduced extra logic to allow using such a variable on the same line
later on. Unfortunately that extra logic is flawed as it relies on a
mapping from variable to expression defining it when the mapping is from
variable definition to expression. This flaw causes among other issues
PR42896.

This commit avoids the problem by forbidding all use of a variable
defined on the same line, and removes the now useless logic. Redesign
will be done in a later commit because it will require some amount of
refactoring first for the solution to be clean. One example is the need
for some sort of transaction mechanism to set a variable temporarily and
from an expression and rollback if the CHECK pattern does not match so
that diagnostics show the right variable values.

Pavel Labath b1f29cec25 Add error handling to the DataExtractor class
Summary:
This is motivated by D63591, where we realized that there isn't a really
good way of telling whether a DataExtractor is reading actual data, or
is it just returning default values because it reached the end of the
buffer.

This patch resolves that by providing a new "Cursor" class. A Cursor
object encapsulates two things:
- the current position/offset in the DataExtractor
- an error object

Storing the error object inside the Cursor enables one to use the same
pattern as the std::{io}stream API, where one can blindly perform a
sequence of reads and only check for errors once at the end of the
operation. Similarly to the stream API, as soon as we encounter one
error, all of the subsequent operations are skipped (return default
values) too, even if the would suceed with clear error state. Unlike the
std::stream API (but in line with other llvm APIs), we force the error
state to be checked through usage of llvm::Error.

Pavel Labath 1b30ea2c50 [Support] Improve readNativeFile(Slice) interface
Summary:
There was a subtle, but pretty important difference between the Slice
and regular versions of this function. The Slice function was
zero-initializing the rest of the buffer when the read syscall returned
less bytes than expected, while the regular function did not.

This patch removes the inconsistency by making both functions *not*
zero-initialize the buffer. The zeroing code is moved to the
MemoryBuffer class, which is currently the only user of this code. This
makes the API more consistent, and the code shorter.

While in there, I also refactor the functions to return the number of
bytes through the regular return value (via Expected<size_t>) instead of
a separate by-ref argument.

Pavel Labath 08c77b97c0 Filesystem/Windows: fix inconsistency in readNativeFileSlice API
Summary:
The windows version implementation of readNativeFileSlice, was trying to
match the POSIX behavior of not treating EOF as an error, but it was
only handling the case of reading from a pipe. Attempting to read past
the end of a regular file returns a slightly different error code, which
needs to be handled too. This patch adds ERROR_HANDLE_EOF to the list of
error codes to be treated as an end of file, and adds some unit tests
for the API.

This issue was found while attempting to land D66224, which caused a bunch of
lldb tests to start failing on windows.

Summary:
The main motivation for this is unit tests, which contain a large macro
for pretty-printing std::error_code, and this macro is duplicated in
every file that needs to do this. However, the functionality may be
useful elsewhere too.

In this patch I have reimplemented the existing ASSERT_NO_ERROR macros
to reuse the new functionality, but I have kept the macro (as a
one-liner) as it is slightly more readable than ASSERT_EQ(...,
std::error_code()).

I removed all uses of AlignedCharArray since the minimum MSVC version can handle
alignas on char arrays correctly. We can therefore remove AlignedCharArray.

Alex Lorenz b680422ef8 [FileCollector] add support for recording empty directories
The file collector class is useful for constructing reproducers by
creating a snapshot of the files that are accessed. Sometimes it might
also be important to construct directories that don't necessarily have files,
but are still accessed by some tool that we want to make a reproducer for.
This is useful for instance for modeling the behavior of Clang's header search,
which scans through a number of directories it doesn't actually access when
looking for framework headers. This commit extends the file collector to allow
it to work with paths that are just directories, by constructing them as the
files are copied over.

Summary:
This patch is part of a patch series to add support for FileCheck
numeric expressions. This specific patch lift the restriction for a
numeric expression to either be a variable definition or a numeric
expression to try to match.

This commit allows a numeric variable to be set to the result of the
evaluation of a numeric expression after it has been matched
successfully. When it happens, the variable is allowed to be used on
the same line since its value is known at match time.

It also makes use of this possibility to reuse the parsing code to
parse a command-line definition by crafting a mirror string of the
-D option with the equal sign replaced by a colon sign, e.g. for option
'-D#NUMVAL=10' it creates the string
'-D#NUMVAL=10 (parsed as [[#NUMVAL:10]])' where the numeric expression
is parsed to define NUMVAL. This result in a few tests needing updating
for the location diagnostics on top of the tests for the new feature.

It also enables empty numeric expression which match any number without
defining a variable. This is done here rather than in commit #5 of the
patch series because it requires to dissociate automatic regex insertion
in RegExStr from variable definition which would make commit #5 even
bigger than it already is.

Thomas Preud'homme 70494494c1 [FileCheck] Fix numeric variable redefinition
Summary:
Commit r365249 changed usage of FileCheckNumericVariable to have one
instance of that class per variable as opposed to one instance per
definition of a given variable as was done before. However, it retained
the safety check in setValue that it should only be called with the
variable unset, even after r365625.

However this causes assert failure when a non-pseudo variable is being
redefined. And while redefinition of @LINE at each CHECK line work in
the general case, it caused problem when a substitution failed (fixed in
r365624) and still causes problem when a CHECK line does not match since
@LINE's value is cleared after substitutions in match() happened but
printSubstitutions also attempts a substitution.

This commit solves the root of the problem by changing setValue to set a
new value regardless of whether a value was set or not, thus fixing all
the aforementioned issues.

Alexandros Lamprineas 24cacf9c56 [clang][Driver][ARM] Favor -mfpu over default CPU features
When processing the command line options march, mcpu and mfpu, we store
the implied target features on a vector. The change D62998 introduced a
temporary vector, where the processed features get accumulated. When
calling DecodeARMFeaturesFromCPU, which sets the default features for
the specified CPU, we certainly don't want to override the features
that have been explicitly specified on the command line. Therefore, the
default features should appear first in the final vector. This problem
became evident once I added the missing (unhandled) target features in
ARM::getExtensionFeatures.

Fangrui Song 27ed1c5bb8 [YAMLIO] Remove trailing spaces when outputting maps
llvm::yaml::Output::paddedKey unconditionally outputs spaces, which
are superfluous if the value to be dumped is a sequence or map.
Change `bool NeedsNewLine` to `StringRef Padding` so that it can be
overridden to `\n` if the value is a sequence or map.

An empty map/sequence is special. It is printed as `{}` or `[]` without
a newline, while a non-empty map/sequence follows a newline. To handle
this distinction, add another variable `PaddingBeforeContainer` and does
the special handling in endMapping/endSequence.

Fangrui Song 6dc5962957 [llvm-objcopy] Don't change permissions of non-regular output files
There is currently an EPERM error when a regular user executes `llvm-objcopy a.o /dev/null`.
Worse, root can even change the mode bits of /dev/null.

Fix it by checking if the output file is special.

A new overload of llvm::sys::fs::setPermissions with FD as the parameter
is added. Users should provide `perm & ~umask` as the parameter if they
intend to respect umask.

The existing overload of llvm::sys::fs::setPermissions may be deleted if
we can find an implementation of fchmod() on Windows. fchmod() is
usually better than chmod() because it saves syscalls and can avoid race
condition.

Don Hinton 43d75f9778 Recommit "[CommandLine] Remove OptionCategory and SubCommand caches from the Option class."
Previously reverted in 364141 due to buildbot breakage, and fixed here
by making GeneralCategory global a ManagedStatic.

Summary:
This change processes `OptionCategory`s and `SubCommand`s as they
are seen instead of caching them in the Option class and processing
them later.  Doing so simplifies the work needed to be done by the Global
parser and significantly reduces the size of the Option class to a mere 64
bytes.

Removing  the `OptionCategory` cache saved 24 bytes, and removing
the `SubCommand` cache saved an additional 48 bytes, for a total of a
72 byte reduction.

Thomas Preud'homme f6ea43b8b3 [FileCheck] Fix @LINE value after match failure
Summary:
The value of the FileCheckNumericVariable class instance representing
the @LINE numeric variable is set and cleared respectively before and
after substitutions are made, if any. However, when a substitution
fails, the value is not cleared. This causes the next substitution of
@LINE later on to give the wrong value since setValue is a nop if the
value is already set. This is what caused failures after commit r365249.

Reid Kleckner cc418a3af4 [Support] Move llvm::MemoryBuffer to sys::fs::file_t
Summary:
On Windows, Posix integer file descriptors are a compatibility layer
over native file handles provided by the C runtime. There is a hard
limit on the maximum number of file descriptors that a process can open,
and the limit is 8192. LLD typically doesn't run into this limit because
it opens input files, maps them into memory, and then immediately closes
the file descriptor. This prevents it from running out of FDs.

For various reasons, I'd like to open handles to every input file and
keep them open during linking. That requires migrating MemoryBuffer over
to taking open native file handles instead of integer FDs.

Thomas Preud'homme fe7ac170a7 [FileCheck] Don't diagnose undef vars at parse time
Summary:
Diagnosing use of undefined variables takes place in
parseNumericVariableUse() and printSubstitutions() for numeric variables
but only takes place in printSubstitutions() for string variables. The
reason for the split location of diagnostics is that parsing is not
aware of the clearing of variables due to --enable-var-scope and thus
use of variables cleared in this way can only be catched by
printSubstitutions().

Beyond the code level inconsistency, there is also a user facing
inconsistency since diagnostics look different between the two
functions. While the diagnostic in printSubstitutions is more verbose,
doing the diagnostic there allows to diagnose all undefined variables
rather than just the first one and error out.

This patch create dummy variable definition when encountering a use of
undefined variable so that parsing can proceed and be diagnosed by
printSubstitutions() later. Tests that were testing whether parsing
fails in such case are thus modified accordingly.

Checking with truss reveals that this is the same issue as on AIX and
documented in chmod(2):

  If the process is not a privileged process and the file is not a direc-
  tory, mode bit 01000 (S_ISVTX, the sticky bit) is cleared.

Pavel Labath bb6d0b8e7b [Support] Fix error handling in DataExtractor::get[US]LEB128
Summary:
These functions are documented as not modifying the offset argument if
the extraction fails (just like other DataExtractor functions). However,
while reviewing D63591 we discovered that this is not the case -- if the
function reaches the end of the data buffer, it will just return the
value parsed until that point and set offset to point to the end of the
buffer.

This fixes the functions to act as advertised, and adds a regression
test.

Don Hinton a5b83bc9e3 [CommandLine] Remove OptionCategory and SubCommand caches from the Option class.
Summary:
This change processes `OptionCategory`s and `SubCommand`s as they
 are seen instead of caching them in the Option class and processing
them later.  Doing so simplifies the work needed to be done by the Global
parser and significantly reduces the size of the Option class to a mere 64
bytes.

Removing  the `OptionCategory` cache saved 24 bytes, and removing
the `SubCommand` cache saved an additional 48 bytes, for a total of a
72 byte reduction.

made any sense either.

Jordan Rupprecht f5d0d2d041 [test] Fix TargetParserTest runtime.
r363780 fixes extreme memory growth by using a new std::vector every loop iteration, but causes runtime to go up (and occasionally timeout in certain situations) because of constructor cost every loop iteration. Fix this by moving the constructor back out, but clearing contents in the loop.

Also apply this to the AArch64 features test case, which seems to use the same pattern.

Previous detection relied upon an arbitrary hard coded limit of 21
response files, which some code bases were running up against.

The new detection maintains a stack of processing response files and
explicitly checks if a newly encountered file is in the current stack.

Thomas Preud'homme 1a944d27b2 FileCheck: Improve FileCheck variable terminology
Summary:
Terminology introduced by [[#]] blocks is confusing and does not
integrate well with existing terminology.

First, variables referred by [[]] blocks are called "pattern variables"
while the text a CHECK directive needs to match is called a "CHECK
pattern". This is inconsistent with variables in [[#]] blocks since
[[#]] blocks are also found in CHECK pattern yet those variables are
called "numeric variable".

Second, the replacing of both [[]] and [[#]] blocks by the value of the
variable or expression they contain is represented by a
FileCheckPatternSubstitution class. The naming refers to being a
substitution in a CHECK pattern but could be wrongly understood as being
a substitution of a pattern variable.

Third and lastly, comments use "numeric expression" to refer both to the
[[#]] blocks as well as to the numeric expressions these blocks contain
which get evaluated at match time.

This patch solves these confusions by
- calling variables in [[]] and [[#]] blocks as string and numeric
  variables respectively;
- referring to [[]] and [[#]] as substitution *blocks*, with the former
  being a string substitution block and the latter a numeric
  substitution block;
- calling [[]] and [[#]] blocks to be replaced by the value of a
  variable or expression they contain a substitution (as opposed to
  definition when these blocks are used to defined a variable), with the
  former being a string substitution and the latter a numeric
  substitution;
- renaming the FileCheckPatternSubstitution as a FileCheckSubstitution
  class with FileCheckStringSubstitution and
  FileCheckNumericSubstitution subclasses;
- restricting the use of "numeric expression" to refer to the expression
  that is evaluated in a numeric substitution.

While numeric substitution blocks only support numeric substitutions of
numeric expressions at the moment there are plans to augment numeric
substitution blocks to support numeric definitions as well as both a
numeric definition and numeric substitution in the same numeric
substitution block.

Petar Jovanovic 4964e3837e [Support] Fix unit test for fs::is_local
Close the temporary file after the test is done using it.
If it is not closed and the file was created on NFS, it will cause the test
to fail. The problem happens in the cleanup process afterwards. It first
tries to delete the file but it is not really deleted. Afterwards, the
program fails to delete the directory containing the file, causing the whole
test to fail.

Lang Hames e4b4ab6d26 [Support] Add error handling to sys::Process::getPageSize().
This patch changes the return type of sys::Process::getPageSize to
Expected<unsigned> to account for the fact that the underlying syscalls used to
obtain the page size may fail (see below).

For clients who use the page size as an optimization only this patch adds a new
method, getPageSizeEstimate, which calls through to getPageSize but discards
any error returned and substitues a "reasonable" page size estimate estimate
instead. All existing LLVM clients are updated to call getPageSizeEstimate
rather than getPageSize.

On Unix, sys::Process::getPageSize is implemented in terms of getpagesize or
sysconf, depending on which macros are set. The sysconf call is documented to
return -1 on failure. On Darwin getpagesize is implemented in terms of sysconf
and may also fail (though the manpage documentation does not mention this).
These failures have been observed in practice when highly restrictive sandbox
permissions have been applied. Without this patch, the result is that
getPageSize returns -1, which wreaks havoc on any subsequent code that was
assuming a sane page size value.

This patch is part of a patch series to add support for FileCheck
numeric expressions. This specific patch introduces the @LINE numeric
expressions.

This commit introduces a new syntax to express a relation a numeric
value in the input text must have with the line number of a given CHECK
pattern: [[#<@LINE numeric expression>]]. Further commits build on that
to express relations between several numeric values in the input text.
To help with naming, regular variables are renamed into pattern
variables and old @LINE expression syntax is referred to as legacy
numeric expression.

Compared to existing @LINE expressions, this new syntax allow arbitrary
spacing between the component of the expression. It offers otherwise the
same functionality but the commit serves to introduce some of the data
structure needed to support more general numeric expressions.

Prior to this change, parsing of -D option was very loose: it assumed
that there is an equal sign (which to be fair is now checked by the
FileCheck executable) and that the part on the left of the equal sign
was a valid variable name. This commit adds logic to ensure that this
is the case and gives diagnostic when it is not, making it clear that
the issue came from a command-line option error. This is achieved by
sharing the variable parsing code into a new function ParseVariable.

Sam McCall a7edcfb533 [Support] Add JSON streaming output API, faster where the heavy value types aren't needed.
Summary:
There's still a little bit of constant factor that could be trimmed (e.g.
more overloads to avoid round-tripping primitives through json::Value).
But this solves the memory scaling problem, and greatly improves the performance
constant factor, and the API should leave room for optimization if needed.

Adapt TimeProfiler to use it, eliminating almost all the performance regression
from r358476.

Performance test on my machine:
perf stat -r 5 ~/llvmbuild-opt/bin/clang++ -w -S -ftime-trace -mllvm -time-trace-granularity=0 spirit.cpp

Handcrafted JSON (HEAD=r358532 with r358476 reverted): 2480ms
json::Value (HEAD): 2757ms (+11%)
After this patch: 2520 ms (+1.6%)

Summary:
Annotations allow writing nice-looking unit test code when one needs
access to locations from the source code, e.g. running code completion
at particular offsets in a file. See comments in Annotations.cpp for

Also got rid of a duplicate annotations parsing code in clang's code
complete tests.

Bob Haarman 2eea99a4b9 [Support] unflake TempFileCollisions test
Summary:
This test was added to verify that createUniqueEntity() does
not enter an infinite loop when all possible names are taken. However,
it also checked that all possible names are generated, which is flaky
(because the names are generated randomly). This change increases the
number of attempts we make to make flakes exceedingly
unlikely (3.88e-62).

Response file expansion limits the amount of expansion to prevent
potential infinite recursion. However, the current logic assumes that
any argument beginning with @ is a response file, which is not true for
e.g. `-Xlinker -rpath -Xlinker @executable_path/../lib` on Darwin.
Having too many of these non-response file arguments beginning with @
prevents actual response files from being expanded. Instead, limit based
on the number of successful response file expansions, which should still
prevent infinite recursion but also avoid false positives.

Thomas Preud'homme e038fa7292 FileCheck [1/12]: Move variable table in new object
Summary:
This patch is part of a patch series to add support for FileCheck
numeric expressions. This specific patch adds a new class to hold
pattern matching global state.

The table holding the values of FileCheck variable constitutes some sort
of global state for the matching phase, yet is passed as parameters of
all functions using it. This commit create a new FileCheckPatternContext
class pointed at from FileCheckPattern. While it increases the line
count, it separates local data from global state. Later commits build
on that to add numeric expression global state to that class.

Nikita Popov 7671fc71f6 [KnownBits] Add computeForAddCarry()
This is for D60460. computeForAddSub() essentially already supports
carries because it has to deal with subtractions. This revision
extracts a lower-level computeForAddCarry() function, which allows
computing the known bits for add (carry known zero), sub (carry known
one) and addcarry (carry unknown).

As we don't seem to have any yet, I've added a unit test file for
KnownBits and exhaustive tests for the new computeForAddCarry()
functionality, as well the existing computeForAddSub() function.

Pavel Labath d7e12574c6 YAMLIO: Fix serialization of strings with embedded nuls
Summary:
A bug/typo in Output::scalarString caused us to round-trip a StringRef
through a const char *. This meant that any strings with embedded nuls
were unintentionally cut short at the first such character. (It also
could have caused accidental buffer overruns, but it seems that all
StringRefs coming into this functions were formed from null-terminated
strings.)

This patch fixes the bug and adds an appropriate test.

Pavel Labath 230837c662 YAMLIO: Improve endian type support
Summary:
Now that endian types support enumerations (D59141), the existing yaml
support for them is somewhat insufficient. The current solution was to
define the ScalarTraits class for these types, which always forwards to
the ScalarTraits of the underlying type. However, the enum types will
usually have ScalarEnumerationTraits of ScalarBitsetTraits.

In this patch I add the two extra Traits types to the endian types. In
order to properly SFINAE-ize them, I've also added an extra "Enable"
template argument to the Traits template classes.

Pavel Labath 4b1a509924 YAMLIO: Improve template arg deduction for mapOptional
Summary:
The way c++ template argument deduction works, both arguments are used
to deduce the template type in the three-argument overload of
mapOptional. This is a problem if the types are slightly different, even
if they are implicitly convertible. This is fairly easy to trigger with
integral types, as the default type of most integral constants is int,
which then requires casting the constant to the type of the other
argument.

This patch fixes that by using a separate template type for the default
value, which is then cast to the type of the first argument.  To avoid
this conversion triggerring conversions marged as explicit, we use
static_assert to check that the types are implicitly convertible.

This patch implements updating of versionless AIX triples to include the

Pavel Labath 8b911934f3 [Support/Endian] Add support for endian-specific enums
Summary:
Binary formats often include various enumerations or bitsets, but using
endian-specific types for accessing them is tricky because they
currently only support integral types. This is particularly true for
scoped enums (enum class), as these are not implicitly convertible to
integral types, and so one has to perform two casts just to read the
enum value.

This fixes that support by adding first-class support for enumeration
types to endian-specific types. The support for them was already almost
working -- all I needed to do was overload getSwappedBytes for
enumeration types (which casts the enum to its underlying type and performs the
conversion there). I also add some convenience template aliases to simplify
declaring endian-specific enums.

Igor Kudrin 875f05828d [CommandLine] Do not crash if an option has both ValueRequired and Grouping.
If an option, which requires a value, has a `cl::Grouping` formatting
modifier, it works well as far as it is used at the end of a group,
or as a separate argument. However, if the option appears accidentally
in the middle of a group, the program just crashes. This patch prints
an error message instead.

Alexandre Ganea b05ba93578 [Memory] Add basic support for large/huge memory pages
This patch introduces Memory::MF_HUGE_HINT which indicates that allocateMappedMemory() shall return a pointer to a large memory page.
However the flag is a hint because we're not guaranteed in any way that we will get back a large memory page. There are several restrictions:

- Large/huge memory pages aren't enabled by default on modern OSes (Windows 10 and Linux at least), and should be manually enabled/reserved.
- Once enabled, it should be kept in mind that large pages are physical only, they can't be swapped.
- Memory fragmentation can affect the availability of large pages, especially after running the OS for a long time and/or running along many other applications.

Memory::allocateMappedMemory() will fallback to 4KB pages if it can't allocate 2MB large pages (if Memory::MF_HUGE_HINT is provided)

Currently, Memory::MF_HUGE_HINT only works on Windows. The hint will be ignored on Linux, 4KB pages will always be returned.

this empty-named value appears in the command-line help text:

This change improves the help text for these sort of options in a number
of ways:

1) ValueOptional options with an empty-named value now print their help
   text twice: both without and then with '=<value>' after the name. The
   latter version then lists the allowed values after it.
2) Empty-named values with no help text in ValueOptional options are not
   listed in the permitted values.

-some-option         - some help text
-some-option=<value> - some help text
  =v1                - description 1
  =v2                - description 2

3) Otherwise empty-named options are printed as =<empty> rather than
   simply '='.
4) Option values without help text do not have the '-' separator
   printed.

It also tweaks the llvm-symbolizer -functions help text to not print a
