Aart Bik 23c9e8bc25 [mlir][tensors] Introduce attribute interface/attribute for tensor encoding
The new "encoding" field in tensor types so far had no meaning. This revision introduces:

1. an encoding attribute interface in IR: for verification between tensors and encodings in general
2. an attribute in Tensor dialect; #tensor.sparse<dict> + concrete sparse tensors API

Fangrui Song 18839be9c5 [ADT] Remove StatisticBase and make NoopStatistic empty
In LLVM_ENABLE_STATS=0 builds, `llvm::Statistic` maps to `llvm::NoopStatistic`
but has 3 mostly unused pointers. GlobalOpt considers that the pointers can
potentially retain allocated objects, so GlobalOpt cannot optimize out the
`NoopStatistic` variables (see D69428 for more context), wasting 23KiB for stage
2 clang.

This patch makes `NoopStatistic` empty and thus reclaims the wasted space. The
clang size is even smaller than applying D69428 (slightly smaller in both .bss and
.text).
```
# This means the D69428 optimization on clang is mostly nullified by this patch.
HEAD+D69428: size(.bss) = 0x0725a8
HEAD+D101211: size(.bss) = 0x072238
# bloaty - HEAD+D69428 vs HEAD+D101211
# With D101211, we also save a lot of string table space (.rodata).
    FILE SIZE        VM SIZE
 --------------  --------------
  -0.0%     -32  -0.0%     -24    .eh_frame
  -0.0%    -336  [ = ]       0    .symtab
  -0.0%    -360  [ = ]       0    .strtab
  [ = ]       0  -0.2%    -880    .bss
  -0.0% -2.11Ki  -0.0% -2.11Ki    .rodata
  -0.0% -2.89Ki  -0.0% -2.89Ki    .text
  -0.0% -5.71Ki  -0.0% -5.88Ki    TOTAL
```

Note: LoopFuse is a disabled pass. For now this patch adds
`#if LLVM_ENABLE_STATS` so `OptimizationRemarkMissed` is skipped in
LLVM_ENABLE_STATS==0 builds. If these `OptimizationRemarkMissed` are useful in
LLVM_ENABLE_STATS==0 builds, we can replace `llvm::Statistic` with
`llvm::TrackingStatistic`, or use a different abstraction to keep track of the strings.

Similarly, skip the code in `mlir/lib/Pass/PassStatistics.cpp` which
calls `getName`/`getDesc`/`getValue`.

Chris Lattner f0c22c3d58 [Verifier] Tidy up the code a bit, NFC.
This tidies up the code a bit:
 * Eliminate the ctx member, which doesn't need to be stored.
 * Rename verify(Operation) to make it more clear that it is
   doing more than verifyOperation and that the dominance check
   isn't being done multiple times.
 * Rename mayNotHaveTerminator which was confusing about whether
   it wasn't known whether it had a terminator, when it is really
   about whether it is legal to have a terminator.
 * Some minor optimizations: don't check for RegionKindInterface
   if there are no regions. Don't do two passes over the
   operations in a block in OperationVerifier::verifyDominance when
   one will do.

The optimizations are actually a measurable (but minor) win in some
CIRCT cases.

Strided 1D vector transfer ops are 1D transfers operating on a memref dimension different from the last one. In the absence of a mask, strided 1D vector transfer ops can also be lowered using matrix.column.major.* LLVM instructions (in a later commit).

River Riddle 751c14fc42 [mlir][mlir-lsp] Add a new C++ LSP server for MLIR named mlir-lsp-server
This commits adds a basic LSP server for MLIR that supports resolving references and definitions. Several components of the setup are simplified to keep the size of this commit down, and will be built out in later commits. A followup commit will add a vscode language client that communicates with this server, paving the way for better IDE experience when interfacing with MLIR files.

The structure of this tool is similar to mlir-opt and mlir-translate, i.e. the implementation is structured as a library that users can call into to implement entry points that contain the dialects/passes that they are interested in.

Note: This commit contains several files, namely those in `mlir-lsp-server/lsp`, that have been copied from the LSP code in clangd and adapted for use in MLIR. This copying was decided as the best initial path forward (discussed offline by several stake holders in MLIR and clangd) given the different needs of our MLIR server, and the one for clangd. If a strong desire/need for unification arises in the future, the existence of these files in mlir-lsp-server can be reconsidered.

- An interface for detensoring cost-modelling.

Aart Bik 7714b405a0 [mlir] introduce "encoding" attribute to tensor type
This CL introduces a generic attribute (called "encoding") on tensors.
The attribute currently does not carry any concrete information, but the type
system already correctly determines that tensor<8xi1,123> != tensor<8xi1,321>.
The attribute will be given meaning through an interface in subsequent CLs.

See ongoing discussion on discourse:

[RFC] Introduce a sparse tensor type to core MLIR
https://llvm.discourse.group/t/rfc-introduce-a-sparse-tensor-type-to-core-mlir/2944

A sparse tensor will look something like this:

```
// named alias with all properties we hold dear:
#CSR = {
  // individual named attributes
}
// actual sparse tensor type:
tensor<?x?xf64, #CSR>
```

I see the following rough 5 step plan going forward:

(1) introduce this format attribute in this CL, currently still empty
(2) introduce attribute interface that gives it "meaning", focused on sparse in first phase
(3) rewrite sparse compiler to use new type, remove linalg interface and "glue"
(4) teach passes to deal with new attribute, by rejecting/asserting on non-empty attribute as simplest solution, or doing meaningful rewrite in the longer run
(5) add FE support, document, test, publicize new features, extend "format" meaning to other domains if useful

Lei Zhang 5299843c31 [mlir][spirv] Add control for non-32-bit scalar type emulation
Non-32-bit scalar types require special hardware support that may not
exist on all GPUs. This is reflected in SPIR-V as that non-32-bit scalar
types require special capabilities or extensions.

Previously when there is a non-32-bit type and no native support, we
unconditionally emulate it with 32-bit ones. This isn't good given that
it can have implications over ABI and data layout consistency.

This commit introduces an option to control whether to use 32-bit
types to emulate.

MaheshRavishankar 9b0517035f [mlir] Enhance InferShapedTypeOpInterface and move LinalgOps to use them.
A new `InterfaceMethod` is added to `InferShapedTypeOpInterface` that
allows an operation to return the `Value`s for each dim of its
results. It is intended for the case where the `Value` returned for
each dim is computed using the operands and operation attributes. This
interface method is for cases where the result dim of an operation can
be computed independently, and it avoids the need to aggregate all
dims of a result into a single shape value. This also implies that
this is not suitable for cases where the result type is unranked (for
which the existing interface methods is to be used).

Also added is a canonicalization pattern that uses this interface and
resolves the shapes of the output in terms of the shapes of the
inputs. Moving Linalg ops to use this interface, so that many
canonicalization patterns implemented for individual linalg ops to
achieve the same result can be removed in favor of the added
canonicalization pattern.

Julian Gross 06b03800f3 [mlir] Introduce CloneOp and adapt test cases in BufferDeallocation.
Add a new clone operation to the memref dialect. This operation implicitly
copies data from a source buffer to a new buffer. In contrast to the linalg.copy
operation, this operation does not accept a target buffer as an argument.
Instead, this operation performs a conceptual allocation which does not need to
be performed manually.

Furthermore, this operation resolves the dependency from the linalg-dialect
in the BufferDeallocation pass. In addition, we also extended the canonicalization
patterns to fold clone operations. The copy removal pass has been removed.

Mehdi Amini 973ddb7d6e Define a `NoTerminator` traits that allows operations with a single block region to not provide a terminator
In particular for Graph Regions, the terminator needs is just a
historical artifact of the generalization of MLIR from CFG region.
Operations like Module don't need a terminator, and before Module
migrated to be an operation with region there wasn't any needed.

To validate the feature, the ModuleOp is migrated to use this trait and
the ModuleTerminator operation is deleted.

This patch is likely to break clients, if you're in this case:

- you may iterate on a ModuleOp with `getBody()->without_terminator()`,
  the solution is simple: just remove the ->without_terminator!
- you created a builder with `Builder::atBlockTerminator(module_body)`,
  just use `Builder::atBlockEnd(module_body)` instead.
- you were handling ModuleTerminator: it isn't needed anymore.
- for generic code, a `Block::mayNotHaveTerminator()` may be used.

Until now Linalg fusion only allow fusing producers whose operands
are all permutation indexing maps. It's easier to deduce the
subtensor/subview but it is an unnecessary constraint, as in tiling
we have more advanced logic to deduce the subranges even when the
operand is not of permutation indexing maps, e.g., the input operand
for convolution ops.

This patch uses the logic on tiling side to deduce subranges for
fusion. This enables fusing convolution with its consumer ops
when possible.

Along the way, we are now generating proper affine.min ops to guard
against size boundaries, if we cannot be certain they won't be

Alex Zinenko b3386a734e [mlir] introduce data layout entry for index type
Index type is an integer type of target-specific bitwidth present in many MLIR
operations (loops, memory accesses). Converting values of this type to
fixed-size integers has always been problematic. Introduce a data layout entry
to specify the bitwidth of `index` in a given layout scope, defaulting to 64
bits, which is a commonly used assumption, e.g., in constants.

Port builtin-to-LLVM type conversion to use this data layout entry when
converting `index` type and untie it from pointer size. This is particularly
relevant for GPU targets. Keep a possibility to forcibly override the index
type in lowerings.

To match an interface or trait, users currently have to use the `MatchAny` tag. This tag can be quite problematic for compile time for things like the canonicalizer, as the `MatchAny` patterns may get applied to *every* operation. This revision adds better support by bucketing interface/trait patterns based on which registered operations have them registered. This means that moving forward we will only attempt to match these patterns to operations that have this interface registered. Two simplify defining patterns that match traits and interfaces, two new utility classes have been added: OpTraitRewritePattern and OpInterfaceRewritePattern.
