Roman Tereshin d769eb36ab [DebugInfo][OPT] Fixing a couple of DI duplication bugs of CloneModule
As demonstrated by the regression tests added in this patch, the
following cases are valid cases:

1. A Function with no DISubprogram attached, but various debug info
related to its instructions, coming, for instance, from an inlined
  function, also defined somewhere else in the same module;
2. ... or coming exclusively from the functions inlined and eliminated
  from the module entirely.

The ValueMap shared between CloneFunctionInto calls within CloneModule
needs to contain identity mappings for all of the DISubprogram's to
prevent them from being duplicated by MapMetadata / RemapInstruction
calls, this is achieved via DebugInfoFinder collecting all the
DISubprogram's. However, CloneFunctionInto was missing calls into
DebugInfoFinder for functions w/o DISubprogram's attached, but still
referring DISubprogram's from within (case 1). This patch fixes that.

The fix above, however, exposes another issue: if a module contains a
DISubprogram referenced only indirectly from other debug info
metadata, but not attached to any Function defined within the module
(case 2), cloning such a module causes a DICompileUnit duplication: it
will be moved in indirecty via a DISubprogram by DebugInfoFinder first
(because of the first bug fix described above), without being
self-mapped within the shared ValueMap, and then will be copied during
named metadata cloning. So this patch makes sure DebugInfoFinder
visits DICompileUnit's referenced from DISubprogram's as it goes w/o
re-processing llvm.dbg.cu list over and over again for every function
cloned, and makes sure that CloneFunctionInto self-maps
DICompileUnit's referenced from the entire function, not just its own
DISubprogram attached that may also be missing.

The most convenient way of tesing CloneModule I found is to rely on
CloneModule call from `opt -run-twice`, instead of writing tedious
unit tests. That feature has a couple of properties that makes it hard
to use for this purpose though:

1. CloneModule doesn't copy source filename, making `opt -run-twice`
  report it as a difference.
2. `opt -run-twice` does the second run on the original module, not
its clone, making the result of cloning completely invisible in opt's
actual output with and without `-run-twice` both, which directly
contradicts `opt -run-twice`s own error message.

This patch fixes this as well.

This lifts a restriction on DILocation::getMergedLocation(), allowing it

The default behavior of getMergedLocation() is unchanged: callers which
invoke it directly are unaffected.

This change will enable a follow-up Mem2Reg fix which improves crash

Adrian Prantl a8b2ddbde4 Move the stripping of invalid debug info from the Verifier to AutoUpgrade.
This came out of a recent discussion on llvm-dev
(https://reviews.llvm.org/D38042). Currently the Verifier will strip
the debug info metadata from a module if it finds the dbeug info to be
malformed. This feature is very valuable since it allows us to improve
the Verifier by making it stricter without breaking bcompatibility,
but arguable the Verifier pass should not be modifying the IR. This
patch moves the stripping of broken debug info into AutoUpgrade
(UpgradeDebugInfo to be precise), which is a much better location for
this since the stripping of malformed (i.e., produced by older, buggy
versions of Clang) is a (harsh) form of AutoUpgrade.

This change is mostly NFC in nature, the one big difference is the
behavior when LLVM module passes are introducing malformed debug
info. Prior to this patch, a NoAsserts build would have printed a
warning and stripped the debug info, after this patch the Verifier
will report a fatal error. I believe this behavior is actually more
desirable anyway.

Chandler Carruth 6bda14b313 Sort the remaining #include lines in include/... and lib/....
I did this a long time ago with a janky python script, but now
clang-format has built-in support for this. I fed clang-format every
line with a #include and let it re-sort things according to the precise
LLVM rules for include ordering baked into clang-format these days.

I've reverted a number of files where the results of sorting includes
isn't healthy. Either places where we have legacy code relying on
particular include ordering (where possible, I'll fix these separately)
or where we have particular formatting around #include lines that
I didn't want to disturb in this patch.

This patch is *entirely* mechanical. If you get merge conflicts or
anything, just ignore the changes in this patch and run clang-format
over your #include lines in the files.

Sorry for any noise here, but it is important to keep these things
stable. I was seeing an increasing number of patches with irrelevant
re-ordering of #include lines because clang-format was used. This patch
at least isolates that churn, makes it easy to skip when resolving
conflicts, and gets us to a clean baseline (again).

Adrian Prantl bceaaa9643 [IR] Remove the DIExpression field from DIGlobalVariable.
This patch implements PR31013 by introducing a
DIGlobalVariableExpression that holds a pair of DIGlobalVariable and
DIExpression.

Currently, DIGlobalVariables holds a DIExpression. This is not the
best way to model this:

(1) The DIGlobalVariable should describe the source level variable,
not how to get to its location.

(2) It makes it unsafe/hard to update the expressions when we call
    replaceExpression on the DIGLobalVariable.

(3) It makes it impossible to represent a global variable that is in
more than one location (e.g., a variable with multiple
DW_OP_LLVM_fragment-s). We also moved away from attaching the
DIExpression to DILocalVariable for the same reasons.

This reapplies r289902 with additional testcase upgrades and a change
to the Bitcode record for DIGlobalVariable, that makes upgrading the
old format unambiguous also for variables without DIExpressions.

I forgot to implement a Bitcode upgrade for the case where a DIGlobalVariable

version they are.
My plan of record is to roll the planned follow-up patch that adds a
unit: field to DIGlobalVariable into this patch before recomitting.
This way we only need one Bitcode upgrade for both changes (with a
version flag in the bitcode record to safely distinguish the record
formats).

This adds a new function to DebugInfo.cpp that takes an llvm::Module

opt with a -strip-nonlinetable-debuginfo option.

The secondary use-case (and one that works right now!) is as a
reduction pass in bugpoint. I added two new bugpoint options
(-disable-strip-debuginfo and -disable-strip-debug-types) to control
the new features. By default it will first attempt to remove all debug
information, then only the type info, and then proceed to hack at any
remaining MDNodes.

If -coverage is passed, but -g is not, clang populates the PassManager
pipeline with StripSymbols(debugOnly = true).
The stripSymbol pass therefore scans the list of named metadata,
drops !llvm.dbg.cu, but leaves !llvm.gcov and !0 (the compileUnit MD)
around. The verifier runs, and finds out that there's a CU not listed
in !llvm.dbg.cu (as it was previously dropped) -> crash.
When we strip debug info, so, check if there's coverage data,
and strip it as well, in order to avoid pending metadata left around.

Duncan P. N. Exon Smith a59d3e5af8 DebugInfo: Remove MDString-based type references
Eliminate DITypeIdentifierMap and make DITypeRef a thin wrapper around
DIType*. It is no longer legal to refer to a DICompositeType by its
'identifier:', and DIBuilder no longer retains all types with an
'identifier:' automatically.

Aside from the bitcode upgrade, this is mainly removing logic to resolve
an MDString-based reference to an actualy DIType. The commits leading
up to this have made the implicit type map in DICompileUnit's
'retainedTypes:' field superfluous.

This does not remove DITypeRef, DIScopeRef, DINodeRef, and
DITypeRefArray, or stop using them in DI-related metadata. Although as
of this commit they aren't serving a useful purpose, there are patchces
under review to reuse them for CodeView support.

Distinct DISubprograms (with isDefinition: true) are not part of the type
hierarchy and cannot be uniqued. This change removes the subprograms
list from DICompileUnit and instead adds a pointer to the owning compile
unit to distinct DISubprograms. This would make it easy for ThinLTO to
strip unneeded DISubprograms and their transitively referenced debug info.

Motivation
----------

Materializing DISubprograms is currently the most expensive operation when
doing a ThinLTO build of clang.

We want the DISubprogram to be stored in a separate Bitcode block (or the
same block as the function body) so we can avoid having to expensively
deserialize all DISubprograms together with the global metadata. If a
function has been inlined into another subprogram we need to store a
reference the block containing the inlined subprogram.

Adrian Prantl 5992a72b4d Support the Nodebug emission kind for DICompileUnits.
Sample-based profiling and optimization remarks currently remove
DICompileUnits from llvm.dbg.cu to suppress the emission of debug info
from them. This is somewhat of a hack and only borderline legal IR.

This patch uses the recently introduced NoDebug emission kind in
DICompileUnit to achieve the same result without breaking the Verifier.
A nice side-effect of this change is that it is now possible to combine
NoDebug and regular compile units under LTO.

Pete Cooper adebb9379a Remove llvm::getDISubprogram in favor of Function::getSubprogram
llvm::getDISubprogram walks the instructions in a function, looking for one in the scope of the current function, so that it can find the !dbg entry for the subprogram itself.

Now that !dbg is attached to functions, this should not be necessary. This patch changes all uses to just query the subprogram directly on the function.

Ideally this should be NFC, but in reality its possible that a function:

has no !dbg (in which case there's likely a bug somewhere in an opt pass), or
that none of the instructions had a scope referencing the function, so we used to not find the !dbg on the function but now we will

Peter Collingbourne d4bff30370 DI: Reverse direction of subprogram -> function edge.
Previously, subprograms contained a metadata reference to the function they
described. Because most clients need to get or set a subprogram for a given
function rather than the other way around, this created unneeded inefficiency.

For example, many passes needed to call the function llvm::makeSubprogramMap()
to build a mapping from functions to subprograms, and the IR linker needed to
fix up function references in a way that caused quadratic complexity in the IR
linking phase of LTO.

This change reverses the direction of the edge by storing the subprogram as
function-level metadata and removing DISubprogram's function field.

Since this is an IR change, a bitcode upgrade has been provided.

Fixes PR23367. An upgrade script for textual IR for out-of-tree clients is
attached to the PR.

Duncan P. N. Exon Smith 52888a6738 IR: Remove implicit iterator conversions from lib/IR, NFC
Stop converting implicitly between iterators and pointers/references in
lib/IR.  For convenience, I've added a `getIterator()` accessor to
`ilist_node` so that callers don't need to know how to spell the
iterator class (i.e., they can use `X.getIterator()` instead of
`Function::iterator(X)`).

I'll eventually disallow these implicit conversions entirely, but
there's a lot of code, so it doesn't make sense to do it all in one
patch. One library or so at a time.

Why? To root out cases of `getNextNode()` and `getPrevNode()` being
used in iterator logic. The design of `ilist` makes that invalid when
the current node could be at the back of the list, but it happens to
"work" right now because of a bug where those functions never return
`nullptr` if you're using a half-node sentinel. Before I can fix the
function, I have to remove uses of it that rely on it misbehaving.
(Maybe the function should just be deleted anyway? But I don't want
deleting it -- potentially a huge project -- to block fixing
ilist/iplist.)

Adrian Prantl ab1243fe6c Add a DIModule metadata node to the IR.
It is meant to be used to record modules @imported by the current
compile unit, so a debugger an import the same modules to replicate this
environment before dropping into the expression evaluator.

DIModule is a sibling to DINamespace and behaves quite similarly.
In addition to the name of the module it also records the module
configuration details that are necessary to uniquely identify the module.
This includes the configuration macros (e.g., -DNDEBUG), the include path
where the module.map file is to be found, and the isysroot.

The idea is that the backend will turn this into a DW_TAG_module.

Duncan P. N. Exon Smith a9308c49ef IR: Give 'DI' prefix to debug info metadata
Finish off PR23080 by renaming the debug info IR constructs from `MD*`
to `DI*`. The last of the `DIDescriptor` classes were deleted in
r235356, and the last of the related typedefs removed in r235413, so
this has all baked for about a week.

Note: If you have out-of-tree code (like a frontend), I recommend that
you get everything compiling and tests passing with the *previous*
commit before updating to this one. It'll be easier to keep track of
what code is using the `DIDescriptor` hierarchy and what you've already
updated, and I think you're extremely unlikely to insert bugs. YMMV of
course.

Back to *this* commit: I did this using the rename-md-di-nodes.sh

filtered through clang-format-diff.py. I edited the tests for

Duncan P. N. Exon Smith 62e0f454a0 DebugInfo: Remove 'inlinedAt:' field from MDLocalVariable
Remove 'inlinedAt:' from MDLocalVariable. Besides saving some memory
(variables with it seem to be single largest `Metadata` contributer to
memory usage right now in -g -flto builds), this stops optimization and
backend passes from having to change local variables.

The 'inlinedAt:' field was used by the backend in two ways:

 1. To tell the backend whether and into what a variable was inlined.
 2. To create a unique id for each inlined variable.

Instead, rely on the 'inlinedAt:' field of the intrinsic's `!dbg`
attachment, and change the DWARF backend to use a typedef called
`InlinedVariable` which is `std::pair<MDLocalVariable*, MDLocation*>`.
This `DebugLoc` is already passed reliably through the backend (as
verified by r234021).

This commit removes the check from r234021, but I added a new check
(that will survive) in r235048, and changed the `DIBuilder` API in
r235041 to require a `!dbg` attachment whose 'scope:` is in the same
`MDSubprogram` as the variable's.

If this breaks your out-of-tree testcases, perhaps the script I used

`DIDescriptor`'s subclasses allow construction from incompatible

tend to use like this:

    if (DICompileUnit(N).isCompileUnit())

These construction patterns work together to make `DIDescriptor` behave
differently from normal pointers.

Instead, use built-in `isa<>`, `dyn_cast<>`, etc., and only build
`DIDescriptor`s from pointers that are valid for their type.

I've split this into a few commits for different parts of LLVM and clang

=> `MDScope`) seems heavy-handed.  I don't expect `DIRef<>` to last much
longer in tree anyway.

As a drive-by fix, make `TypedDebugNodeRef<>::resolve()` do the right
thing with `nullptr`.

Duncan P. N. Exon Smith 6d0b3704b3 DebugInfo: Drop confusing forwarding API from DILexicalBlockFile
Remove `DILexicalBlockFile::getScope()` (whose last use was removed from
clang in r234245), which illegally returned a `DILexicalBlock` despite
its scope sometimes being an `MDSubprogram`. Also remove the
`getLineNumber()` and `getColumnNumber()` methods that just forwarded to
`DILexicalBlock`'s versions, since there don't seem to be any callers.

Note that the block of code removed from `DebugInfo.cpp` was actually
dead code, since `isLexicalBlock()` (the previous branch) always returns
true when `isLexicalBlockFile()` returns true.

An earlier (broken and untested) version of this was squashed into
r234222 and reverted in r234225.

Duncan P. N. Exon Smith a5099dce62 DebugInfo: Remove DIDescriptor::Verify()
Remove `DIDescriptor::Verify()` and the `Verify()`s from subclasses.
They had already been gutted, and just did an `isa<>` check.

In a couple of cases I've temporarily dropped the check entirely, but
subsequent commits are going to disallow conversions to the
`DIDescriptor`s directly from `MDNode`, so the checks will come back in
another form soon enough.

Duncan P. N. Exon Smith 3ec5fa6a1c DebugInfo: Use MDTypeRef throughout the hierarchy
Use `MDTypeRef` (etc.) in the new debug info hierarchy rather than raw
`Metadata *` pointers.

I rolled in a change to `DIBuilder` that looks unrelated: take `DIType`
instead of `DITypeRef` as type arguments when creating variables.
However, this was the simplest way to use `MDTypeRef` within the
functions, and didn't require any cleanups from callers in clang (since
they were all passing in `DIType`s anyway, relying on their implicit
conversions to `DITypeRef`).

Duncan P. N. Exon Smith 3ee34e14e1 Verifier: Move over DISubprogram::Verify()
Move over the remaining (somewhat complicated) check from
`DISubprogram::Verify()`. I suspect this check could be optimized --
e.g., it would be nice not to do another full traversal here -- but it's
not exactly obvious how. For now, just bring it over as is.

Once we have a better model for the "canonical" subprogram of a
`Function`, we should enforce that all `!dbg` attachments lead to the
canonical one.
