If relocation against symbol requires GOT entry creation and this symbol
is defined in DSO, the GOT entry should be created in the 'global' part
of the GOT even if we link executable file. Also we do not need to create
a dynamic symbol table entry for global symbol corresponding to the
local GOT entry.

In the case where we are emitting to an object file, the platform is
possibly unknown, and the source object files contained load commands
for version min, we can take the maximum of those min versions and

In r259574 I fixed some of the issues with the mach header symbols
and DSO handles.
This is the next issue whereby the __mh_execute_header has to not
be dead stripped, and (to match ld64) should be dynamically referenced.
The test here should also have been added in r259574 to make sure that
we emit this symbol. But checking that it is not only emitted but also
has the correct reference type is fine.

The magic file which contained these symbols inherited from archive
which meant that the resolver didn't add the required atoms as archive
members only get added when referenced. Instead we now inherit from
SimpleFile which always links in the atoms needed.
The second issue was in the handling of these symbols when we emit
the MachO. The mach header symbol needs to be in the atom list as
it gets an offset (0), and being in the atom list makes sure it is
emitted to the symbol table. DSO handles are not emitted to the
symbol table.

is false by default, and set to true if there is a syntax error
in an input file. The linker script parser is a recursive-descedent

When we parse a MachoFile, we set a number of members from the parsed
file, for example, subsectionsViaSymbols.
However, a number of passes, such as ObjCPass, create local copies of
MachoFile and don't get the benefit of setting flags and other fields in

Some MIPS relocation (for now R_MIPS_GOT16) requires creation of GOT
entries for symbol not included in the dynamic symbol table. They are
local symbols and non-local symbols with 'local' visibility. Local GOT
entries occupy continuous block between GOT header and regular GOT
entries.
The patch adds initial support for handling local GOT entries. The main
problem is allocating local GOT entries for local symbols. Such entries
should be initialized by high 16-bit of the symbol value. In ideal world
there should be no duplicated entries with the same values. But at the
moment of the `Writer::scanRelocs` call we do not know a value of the
symbol. In this patch we create new local GOT entry for each relocation
against local symbol, though we can exhaust GOT quickly. That needs to
be optimized later. When we calculate relocation we know a final symbol
value and request local GOT entry index. To do that we maintain map
between addresses and local GOT entry indexes. If we start to calculate
relocations in parallel we will have to serialize access to this map.

Like arch, os, etc, when we know we are going to use a file, we check
that the file has compatible objc constraints to the context, throw
appropriate errors where that is not the case, and hopefully set the
objc constraints on the context for use later.
Added 2 tests to ensure that we don't have incompatibilities between
host and simulator code as both will get x86 based architectures.

This file was failing to build with asan enabled. The reason being that
applyFixupFinal was writing 4-bytes worth of fixup in to an atom only
a single byte in length.
The test case didn't actually need this particular reloc so i've removed
it, although i'll follow up with future commits to actually verify that
relocs are to an address with enough space for the fixup to be applied.

That method is used to check the arch and the OS of the files we are linking
against the arch and OS on the context.

MIPS ABI has relocations like R_MIPS_JALR which is just a hint for
linker to make some code optimization. Such relocations should not be

On Windows different versions of 'sed' work in different text/binary
mode by default. If default mode is text, sed produces corrupted binary
files. Unfortunately there is no standard command line option to select
the mode. Some 'sed' support '-b' to switch to binary mode, while other
ones support '--text' option and does not have '-b' option at all.

On MIPS O32 ABI, _gp_disp is a magic symbol designates offset between

we add new method addIgnoredStrong(). It adds ignored symbol with global

enough here because this call adds a weak symbol which might be
substituted by symbol from shared library.

DLL export tables usually contain dllexport'ed symbol RVAs so that
applications which use the DLLs can find symbols from the DLLs.
However, there's a minor feature to "forward" DLL symbols to other
DLLs.
If you set an RVA to a string whose form is "<dllname>.<symbolname>"
(e.g. "KERNEL32.ExitProcess") instead of symbol RVA to the export
table, the loader interprets that as a forwarder symbol, and resolve
that symbol from the specified DLL.
This patch implements that feature.

It wasn't actually pointing to the function at the start of the text section, and so the offset in the binary differed when we passed the file through a second time.
The __eh_frame section uses implicit relocations and when reducing this test case from explicit to implicit, I got

In this patch, all symbols are resolved normally and then wrap options
are applied. Renaming is implemented by mutating `Body` pointers of
Symbols. (As a result, Symtab.find(SymbolName)->getName() may return
a string that's different from SymbolName, but that is by design.

operations.)

String tables in unstripped executable files are fairly large in size.
For example, lld's executable file is about 34.4 MB in my environment,
and of which 3.5 MB is the string table. Efficiency of string table
construction matters.
Previously, the string table was built in an inefficient way. We used
StringTableBuilder to build that and enabled string tail merging,
although tail merging is not effective for the symbol table (you can
only make the string table 0.3% smaller for lld.) Tail merging is
computation intensive task and slow.
This patch eliminates string tail merging.
I changed the way of adding strings to the string table in this patch
too. Previously, strings were added using add() and the same strings
were then passed to getOffset() to get their offsets in the string table.
In this way, getOffset() needs to look up a hash table to get offsets
for given strings. This is a violation of "we look up the symbol table
(or a hash table) only once for each symbol" dogma of the new LLD's
design. Hash table lookup for long C++ mangled names is slow.
I eliminated that lookup in this patch.
In total, this patch improves link time of lld itself about 12%
(3.50 seconds -> 3.08 seconds.)

The fixup content we encode here should be the offset from the
fixup location back to the last nonlocal label. We were only encoding
the address of the fixup, and not taking in to account the base address
of the atom we are in.
Updated the test case here to have a text section which will come before
the data section where the relocation lives. .data being at offset 0 had
previously been hiding this bug.

The final section order in relocatable files was just a side effect
of the atom sorter. This meant that sections like __data were before
__text because __data has RW permissions and __text RX and RW was less
than RX in our enum.
Final linked images had an actual section/segment sorter. There was no
reason for the difference, so simplify a bunch of code and just use the
same sorted for everything.

The R_MIPS_GPREL16 / R_MIPS_GPREL32 relocations use the following

In FreeBSD, rtld expects .ctors containing -1 (0xffffffff), and a
.ctors section containing the correct bits is provided to the linker as
input (/usr/lib/crtbegin.o).

When llvm-lit prints a failure, you'll see something like 'lld *command*' However, you can't then take this, paste it in to a terminal and run it, because it's not got the absolute path of lld.
llvm and clang's lit.cfg files contain lists of commands to look for which are substituted by their full paths. So now you'd see something like '*build dir*/bin/lld *command*'.

The delta64 relocation is represented as the pair ARM64_RELOC_SUBTRACTOR and ARM64_RELOC_UNSIGNED.
Those should always have the same offset, so this adds a check and tests to ensure this is the case.
Also updated the error printing in this case to shows both relocs when erroring on pair.

The gcc_except_tab was generating these references to point to the typeinfo in the data section.
gcc_except_tab also had the DW_EH_PE_indirect flag set which means that at runtime we are going
to dereference this entry as if it is in the GOT.

If a section symbol is not external, that COMDAT section should never
be merge with other sections in other compilation unit. Previously,
we didn't take visibility into account.
Note that COMDAT sections with non-external visibility makes sense
because they can be removed by dead-stripping.

Some MIPS relocations including `R_MIPS_HI16/R_MIPS_LO16` use combined
addends. Such addend is calculated using addends of both paired relocations.
Each `R_MIPS_HI16` relocation is paired with the next `R_MIPS_LO16`
relocation. ABI requires to compute such combined addend in case of REL
relocation record format only.

This patch implements lookup of the next paired relocation suing new
`InputSectionBase::findPairedRelocLocation` method. The primary
disadvantage of this approach is that we put MIPS specific logic into
the common code. The next disadvantage is that we lookup `R_MIPS_LO16`
for each `R_MIPS_HI16` relocation, while in fact multiple `R_MIPS_HI16`
might be paired with the single `R_MIPS_LO16`. From the other side
this way allows us to keep `MipsTargetInfo` class stateless and implement
later relocation handling in parallel.
This patch does not support `R_MIPS_HI16/R_MIPS_LO16` relocations against
`_gp_disp` symbol. In that case the relocations use a special formula for
the calculation. That will be implemented later.

Combination of @tlsgd and @gottpoff at the same time leads to miss of R_X86_64_TPOFF64 dynamic relocation. Patch fixes that.
@tlsgd(%rip) - Allocate two contiguous entries in the GOT to hold a tls index
structure (for passing to tls get addr).
@gottpoff(%rip) - Allocate one GOT entry to hold a variable offset in initial TLS
block (relative to TLS block end, %fs:0).
The same situation can be observed for x86 (probably others too, not sure) with corresponding for that target relocations: @tlsgd, @gotntpoff.

In case a sysroot prefix is configured, and the filename starts with
the '/' character, and the script being processed was located inside
the sysroot prefix, the file's name will be looked for in the sysroot
prefix. Otherwise, the linker falls to the common lookup scheme.
It is slightly modified version of the commit r254031. The problem of
the initial commit was in the `is_absolute` call. On Windows 'C:\' is
absolute path but we do not need to find it under sysroot. In this patch
linker looks up a path under sysroot only if the paths starts with '/'
character.

This patch implements next relocations:
R_386_TLS_LE - Negative offset relative to static TLS (GNU version).
R_386_TLS_LE_32 - Offset relative to static TLS block.
These ones are created when using next code sequences:
* @tpoff - The operator must be used to compute an immediate value. The linker will report
an error if the referenced variable is not defined or it is not code for the executable
itself. No GOT entry is created in this case.
* @ntpoff Calculate the negative offset of the variable it is added to relative to the static TLS block.

In the previous patch (r254003), I made the linker emit PT_GNU_STACK
unconditionally. But sometimes you want to have a control over the
presence of the segment. With this patch, you can omit the segment
by passing -z execstack option.

Partial (-z relro) and full (-z relro, -z now) relro cases are implemented.
Partial relro:
The ELF sections are reordered so that the ELF internal data sections (.got, .dtors, etc.) precede the program's data sections (.data and .bss).
.got is readonly, .got.plt is still writeable.
Full relro:
Supports all the features of partial RELRO, .got.plt is also readonly.

With this patch, lld creates PT_GNU_STACK segments only when all input
files have .note.GNU-stack sections. This is in line with other linkers
with a minor difference (we don't care about .note.GNU-stack rwx bits as
you can always remove .note.GNU-stack sections instead of setting x bit.)
At least, NetBSD loader does not understand PT_GNU_STACK segments and
reject any executables that have the section. This patch makes lld
compatible with such operating systems.
