~~D65060 uncovered that trying to use BFI in loop passes can lead to non-deterministic behavior when blocks are re-used while retaining old BFI data.~~
~~To make sure BFI is preserved through loop passes a Value Handle (VH) callback is registered on blocks themselves. When a block is freed it now also wipes out the accompanying BFI entry such that stale BFI data can no longer persist resolving the determinism issue. ~~
~~An optimistic approach would be to incrementally update BFI information throughout the loop passes rather than only invalidating them on removed blocks. The issues with that are:~~
~~1. It is not clear how BFI information should be incrementally updated: If a block is duplicated does its BFI information come with? How about if it's split/modified/moved around? ~~
~~2. Assuming we can address these problems the implementation here will be a massive undertaking. ~~
~~There's a known need of BFI in LICM analysis which requires correct but not incrementally updated BFI data. A follow-up change can register BFI in all loop passes so this preserved but potentially lossy data is available to any loop pass that wants it.~~
See: D75341 for an identical implementation of preserving BFI via VH callbacks. The previous statements do still apply but this change no longer has to be in this diff because it's already upstream 😄 .
This diff also moves BFI to be a part of LoopStandardAnalysisResults since the previous method using getCachedResults now (correctly!) statically asserts (D72893) that this data isn't static through the loop passes.

This patch recommits "[ConstraintSystem] Add helpers to deal with linear constraints."

is not available for all compilers. The patch has been updated to use
MulOverflow from MathExtras.h
In the case of LTO, several DWARF units can be emitted in one section.
For an extremely large application, they may exceed the limit of 4GiB
for 32-bit offsets. As it is now possible to emit 64-bit debugging info,
the patch enables storing the larger offsets.
Differential Revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D87026
This is mostly an NFC patch because the involved methods are used when
emitting DWO files, which is incompatible with DWARFv3, or for platforms
where DWARF64 is not supported yet.
Differential Revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D87015

Differential Revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D87014
DW_FORM_sec_offset and DW_FORM_strp imply values of different sizes with
DWARF32 and DWARF64. The patch fixes DIE value classes to use correct
sizes when emitting their values. For DIELocList it ensures that the
requested DWARF form matches the current DWARF format because that class
uses a method that selects the size automatically.
Differential Revision: https://reviews.llvm.org/D87009
These methods are used to emit values which are 32-bit in DWARF32 and

Complemantary to the assumption outliner prototype in D71692, this patch
shows how we could simplify the code emitted for an alignemnt
assumption. The generated code is smaller, less fragile, and it makes it
easier to recognize the additional use as a "assumption use".
As mentioned in D71692 and on the mailing list, we could adopt this
scheme, and similar schemes for other patterns, without adopting the
assumption outlining.
This patch introduces a new ConstraintSystem class, that maintains a set
of linear constraints and uses Fourier–Motzkin elimination to eliminate
constraints to check if there are solutions for the system.
It also adds a convert-constraint-log-to-z3.py script, which can parse
the debug output of the constraint system and convert it to a python
script that feeds the constraints into Z3 and checks if it produces the
same result as the LLVM implementation. This is for verification
purposes.

This codepath is apparently not covered by LLVM's unit tests, so I added
coverage in a unit test.
If we want to support this configuration going forward, it means that is
in general not safe to pass a SmallVector<T, N> by value if alignof(T)
is greater than 4. This doesn't appear to come up often because passing
a SmallVector by value is inefficient and not idiomatic: it copies the
inline storage. In this case, the SmallVector<LLT,4> is captured by
value by a lambda, and the lambda is passed by value into std::function,
and that's how we hit the bug.

some means (e.g. information from conditions).
Note that is in general not sound to blindly replace pointers based on

LLVM's memory model is not completely settled as of now; see

The initial version of canReplacePointersIfEqual only rejects a very
specific case: replacing a pointer with a constant expression that is

restricted relatively easily without impacting most code. Using it to
limit replacements in GVN/SCCP/CVP only results in small differences in

This patch optionally replaces the CRT allocator (i.e., malloc and free) with rpmalloc (mixed public domain licence/MIT licence) or snmalloc (MIT licence) or mimalloc (MIT licence). Please note that the source code for these allocators must be available outside of LLVM's tree.
To enable, use `cmake ... -DLLVM_INTEGRATED_CRT_ALLOC=D:/git/rpmalloc -DLLVM_USE_CRT_RELEASE=MT` where `D:/git/rpmalloc` has already been git clone'd from `https://github.com/mjansson/rpmalloc`. The same applies to snmalloc and mimalloc.
When enabled, the allocator will be embeded (statically linked) into the LLVM tools & libraries. This currently only works with the static CRT (/MT), although using the dynamic CRT (/MD) could potentially work as well in the future.
When enabled, this changes the memory stack from:
new/delete -> MS VC++ CRT malloc/free -> HeapAlloc -> VirtualAlloc
to:
new/delete -> {rpmalloc|snmalloc|mimalloc} -> VirtualAlloc
The goal of this patch is to bypass the application's global heap - which is thread-safe thus inducing locking - and instead take advantage of a modern lock-free, thread cache, allocator. On a 6-core Xeon Skylake we observe a 2.5x decrease in execution time when linking a large scale application with LLD and ThinLTO (12 min 20 sec -> 5 min 34 sec), when all hardware threads are being used (using LLD's flag /opt:lldltojobs=all). On a dual 36-core Xeon Skylake with all hardware threads used, we observe a 24x decrease in execution time (1 h 2 min -> 2 min 38 sec) when linking a large application with LLD and ThinLTO. and indirect call promotion candidate.
Profile remapping is a feature to match a function in the module with its
profile in sample profile if the function name and the name in profile look
different but are equivalent using given remapping rules. This is a useful
feature to keep the performance stable by specifying some remapping rules
when sampleFDO targets are going through some large scale function signature
change.
However, currently profile remapping support is only valid for outline
function profile in SampleFDO. It cannot match a callee with an inline
instance profile if they have different but equivalent names. We found
that without the support for inline instance profile, remapping is less
effective for some large scale change.
To add that support, before any remapping lookup happens, all the names
in the profile will be inserted into remapper and the Key to the name
mapping will be recorded in a map called NameMap in the remapper. During
name lookup, a Key will be returned for the given name and it will be used
to extract an equivalent name in the profile from NameMap. So with the help
of the NameMap, we can translate any given name to an equivalent name in
the profile if it exists. Whenever we try to match a name in the module to
a name in the profile, we will try the match with the original name first,
and if it doesn't match, we will use the equivalent name got from remapper
to try the match for another time. In this way, the patch can enhance the
profile remapping support for searching inline instance and searching
indirect call promotion candidate.
In a planned large scale change of int64 type (long long) to int64_t (long),
we found the performance of a google internal benchmark degraded by 2% if
nothing was done. If existing profile remapping was enabled, the performance
degradation dropped to 1.2%. If the profile remapping with the current patch
was enabled, the performance degradation further dropped to 0.14% (Note the
experiment was done before searching indirect call promotion candidate was
added. We hope with the remapping support of searching indirect call promotion
candidate, the degradation can drop to 0% in the end. It will be evaluated
post commit).

The current demand propagator for addition will mark all input bits at and right of the alive output bit as alive. But carry won't propagate beyond a bit for which both operands are zero (or one/zero in the case of subtraction) so a more accurate answer is possible given known bits.
I derived a propagator by working through truth tables and using a bit-reversed addition to make demand ripple to the right, but I'm not sure how to make a convincing argument for its correctness in the comments yet. Nevertheless, here's a minimal implementation and test to get feedback.
This would help in a situation where, for example, four bytes (<128) packed into an int are added with four others SIMD-style but only one of the four results is actually read.

This patch implements initial backend support for a -mtune CPU controlled by a "tune-cpu" function attribute. If the attribute is not present X86 will use the resolved CPU from target-cpu attribute or command line.
This patch adds MC layer support a tune CPU. Each CPU now has two sets of features stored in their GenSubtargetInfo.inc tables . These features lists are passed separately to the Processor and ProcessorModel classes in tablegen. The tune list defaults to an empty list to avoid changes to non-X86. This annoyingly increases the size of static tables on all target as we now store 24 more bytes per CPU. I haven't quantified the overall impact, but I can if we're concerned.
One new test is added to X86 to show a few tuning features with mismatched tune-cpu and target-cpu/target-feature attributes to demonstrate independent control. Another new test is added to demonstrate that the scheduler model follows the tune CPU.
I have not added a -mtune to llc/opt or MC layer command line yet. With no attributes we'll just use the -mcpu for both. MC layer tools will always follow the normal CPU for tuning.

In GlobalISel, if you have a load into a small type with a range, you'll hit
an assert if you try to compute known bits on it starting at a larger type.
e.g.
```
%x:_(s8) = G_LOAD %whatever(p0) :: (load 1 ... !range !n)
...
%y:_(s32) = G_SOMETHING %x
```
When we walk through G_SOMETHING and hit the load, the width of our known bits
is 32. However, the width of the range is going to be 8. This will cause us
to hit an assert.
To fix this, make computeKnownBitsFromRangeMetadata zero extend or truncate
the range type to match the bitwidth of the known bits we're calculating.

So I think we can generalize the matching to allow the new intrinsics or the cmp+select idioms.

As it is currently, SCEV does not look through PHI nodes in loops,
as it might break LCSSA form. Once SCEVExpander can preserve
LCSSA form, it should be safe for SCEV to look through PHIs.
To preserve LCSSA form, this patch uses formLCSSAForInstructions
on operands of newly created instructions, if the definition is inside
a different loop than the new instruction.
The final value we return from expandCodeFor may also need LCSSA
phis, depending on the insert point. As no user for it exists there yet,
create a temporary instruction at the insert point, which can be passed
to formLCSSAForInstructions. This temporary instruction is removed

This cleans up several CMakeLists.txt's where -Wno-suggest-override was manually specified. These test targets now inherit this flag from the gtest target.
Some unittests CMakeLists.txt's, in particular Flang and LLDB, are not touched by this patch. Flang manually adds the gtest sources itself in some configurations, rather than linking to LLVM's gtest target, so this fix would be insufficient to cover those cases. Similarly, LLDB has subdirectories that manually add the gtest headers to their include path without linking to the gtest target, so those subdirectories still need -Wno-suggest-override to be manually specified to compile without warnings.

i.e. -abc represents -a -b -c. The grouped short options are very common. Many
utilities extend the syntax by allowing (an option with an argument) following a
sequence of short options.
This patch adds the support to OptTable, similar to cl::Group for CommandLine
(D58711). llvm-symbolizer will use the feature (D83530). CommandLine is exotic
in some aspects. OptTable is preferred if the user wants to get rid of the
behaviors.
* `cl::opt<bool> i(...)` can be disabled via -i=false or -i=0, which is
different from conventional --no-i.
* Handling --foo & --no-foo requires a comparison of argument positions,
which is a bit clumsy in user code.
OptTable::parseOneArg (non-const reference InputArgList) is added along with
ParseOneArg (const ArgList &). The duplicate does not look great at first
glance. However, The implementation can be simpler if ArgList is mutable.
(ParseOneArg is used by clang-cl (FlagsToInclude/FlagsToExclude) and lld COFF
(case-insensitive). Adding grouped short options can make the function even more
complex.)
The implementation allows a long option following a group of short options. We
probably should refine the code to disallow this in the future. Allowing this
seems benign for now.

New line duplication logic introduced in https://reviews.llvm.org/D63482
has two issues: (1) there is no logic that removes duplicate newlines
when clang-apply-replacment reads YAML and (2) in general such logic
should be applied to all strings and should happen on string
serialization level instead in YAML parser.
This diff changes multiline strings quotation from single quote `'` to
double `"`. It solves problems with internal newlines because now they are
escaped. Also double quotation solves the problem with leading whitespace after
newline. In case of single quotation YAML parsers should remove leading
whitespace according to specification. In case of double quotation these
leading are internal space and they are preserved. There is no way to
instruct YAML parsers to preserve leading whitespaces after newline so
double quotation is the only viable option that solves all problems at
once.

There are following issues with `CFIProgram::parse` code:
1) Invalid CFI opcodes were never tested. And currently a test would fail
when the `LLVM_ENABLE_ABI_BREAKING_CHECKS` is enabled. It happens because
the `DataExtractor::Cursor C` remains unchecked when the
"Invalid extended CFI opcode" error is reported:
```
.eh_frame section at offset 0x1128 address 0x0:
Program aborted due to an unhandled Error:
Error value was Success. (Note: Success values must still be checked prior to being destroyed).
```
2) It is impossible to reach the "Invalid primary CFI opcode" error with the current code.
There are 3 possible primary opcode values and all of them are handled. Hence this error
should be replaced with llvm_unreachable.
3) Errors currently reported are upper-case.
This patch refines the code in the `CFIProgram::parse` method to fix all issues mentioned
and adds unit tests for all possible invalid extended CFI opcodes.

handleMoveDown or handleMoveUp cannot properly repair a main
range of a LiveInterval since they only get LiveRange. There
is a problem if certain use has moved few segments away and
there is a hole in the main range in between of these two
locations. We may get a SubRange with a very extended Segment
spanning several Segments of the main range and also spanning
that hole. If that happens then we end up with the main range
not covering its SubRange which is an error.
It might be possible to attempt fixing the main range in place
just between of the old and new index by extending all of its
Segments in between, but it is unclear this logic will be
faster than just straight constructMainRangeFromSubranges,
which itself is pretty cheap since it only contains interval
logic. That will also require shrinkToUses() call after which
is probably even more expensive.
In the test second move is from 64B to 92B for the sub1.
Subrange is correctly fixed:
L000000000000000C [16r,32B:0)[32B,92r:1) 0@16r 1@32B-phi
But the main range has a hole in between 80d and 88r after
updateRange():
%1 [16r,32B:0)[32B,80r:4)[80r,80d:3)[88r,96r:1)[96r,160B:2)
Since source position is 64B this segment is not even considered
by the updateRange().

* The getLine and getColumn functions need to update the position, or
they will return stale data for buffered streams. This fixes a bug in
the clang -analyzer-checker-option-help option, which was not wrapping
the help text correctly when stdout is not a TTY.
* If the stream contains multi-byte UTF-8 sequences, then the whole
sequence needs to be considered to be a single character. This has the
edge case that the buffer might fill up and be flushed part way
through a character.
* If the stream contains East Asian wide characters, these will be
rendered twice as wide as other characters, so we need to increase the
column count to match.

Context:
--------
There are places in LLVM where we need to pack typed fields into opaque values.
For instance, the `XXXInst` classes in `llvm/include/llvm/IR/Instructions.h` that extract informations from `Value::SubclassData` via `getSubclassDataFromInstruction()`.
The bit twiddling is done manually: this impairs readability and prevent consistent handling of out of range values (e.g. 435b458ad0/llvm/include/llvm/IR/Instructions.h (L564))
More importantly, the bit pattern is scattered throughout the implementation making it hard to pack additionnal fields or check for overlapping bits.
Design decisions:
-----------------
The Bitfield structs are to be declared together so it is clear which bits are used or not.
The code is designed with simplicity in mind, hence a few limitations:
- Storage is limited to a single integer,
- Enum values have to be `unsigned`,
- Storage type has to be `unsigned`,
- There are no automatic detection of overlapping fields (packed bitfield declaration should help though),
- The interface is C like so `storage` needs to be passed in everytime (code is simpler and lifetime considerations more obvious)

The initial intent was to organize ML stuff in its own directory, but
it turns out that conflicts with llvm component layering policies: it
is not a component, because subsequent changes want to rely on other
analyses, which would create a cycle; and we don't have a reliable,
cross-platform mechanism to compile files in a subdirectory, and fit in
the existing LLVM build structure.
This change moves the files into Analysis, and subsequent changes will
leverage conditional compilation for those that have optional
dependencies.
Summary:
Currently, add_llvm_library would create an OBJECT library alongside
of a STATIC / SHARED library, but losing the link interface (its
elements would become dependencies instead). To support scenarios
where linking an object library also brings in its usage
requirements, this patch adds support for 'stand-alone' OBJECT
libraries - i.e. without an accompanying SHARED/STATIC library, and
maintaining the link interface defined by the user.
The support is via a new option, OBJECT_ONLY, to avoid breaking changes
- since just specifying "OBJECT" would currently imply also STATIC or
SHARED, depending on BUILD_SHARED_LIBS.
This is useful for cases where, for example, we want to build a part
of a component separately. Using a STATIC target would incur the risk
that symbols not referenced in the consumer would be dropped (which may
be undesirable).
The current application is the ML part of Analysis. It should be part
of the Analysis component, so it may reference other analyses; and (in
upcoming changes) it has dependencies on optional libraries.

that repeatedly rerun the new, current SCC; second is a worklist for all newly split SCCs. We can avoid rerun of
the same SCC when the SCC is set to be processed by both mechanisms *back to back*. In pathological cases, such redundant
rerun could cause exponential size growth due to inlining along cycles, even when there's no SCC mutation and hence
convergence is not a problem.
Note that it's ok to have SCC updated and rerun immediately, and also in the work list if we have actually moved an SCC
to be topologically "below" the current one due to merging. In that case, we will need to revisit the current SCC after
those moved SCCs. For that reason, the redundant avoidance here only targets back to back rerun of the same SCC - the
case described by the now removed FIXME comment.

Currently, there doesn't seem to be any way to look up a Value*
in a map/set indexed by AssertingVH/PoisoningVH, without creating
a value handle -- which is fairly expensive, because it involves
adding the value handle to the use list and immediately removing
it again. Using find_as(Value *) does not work (and is in fact
worse than just using find(Value *)), because it will end up
creating multiple value handles during the lookup itself.
For AssertingVH, address this by simply using DenseMapInfo<T *>
instead of manually implementing something. The AssertingVH<T>
will now get coerced to T*, rather than the other way around.
For PoisoningVH, add extra overloads of getHashValue() and

When constructing an APSInt from a string, the constructor doesn't correctly
truncate the bit width of the result if the passed in string was "0" (or any
alternative way to express 0 like "-0" or "000"). Instead of 1 (which is the
smallest allowed bit width) it returns an APSInt with a bit width of 5.
The reason is that the constructor checks that it never truncates the result to
the invalid bit width of 0, so when it calculates that storing a "0" doesn't
require any bits it just keeps the original overestimated bit width (which
happens to be 5).
This patch just sets the bit width of the result to 1 if the required bit width

Move the color handling code from raw_fd_ostream to raw_ostream. This
makes it possible to use colors with any ostream when enabled. The
existing behavior where only raw_fd_ostream supports colors by default
remains unchanged.

Summary:
If the output filename was specified as "-", the ToolOutputFile class
would create a brand new raw_ostream object referring to the stdout.
This patch changes it to reuse the llvm::outs() singleton.
At the moment, this change should be "NFC", but it does enable other
enhancements, like the automatic stdout/stderr synchronization as
discussed on D80803.
I've checked the history, and I did not find any indication that this
class *has* to use a brand new stream object instead of outs() --
indeed, it is special-casing "-" in a number of places already, so this
change fits the pattern pretty well. I suspect the main reason for the
current state of affairs is that the class was originally introduced
(r111595, in 2010) as a raw_fd_ostream subclass, which made any other
solution impossible.
Another potential benefit of this patch is that it makes it possible to
move the raw_ostream class out of the business of special-casing "-" for
stdout handling. That state of affairs does not seem appropriate because
"-" is a valid filename (albeit hard to access with a lot of command
line tools) on most systems. Handling "-" in ToolOutputFile seems more
appropriate.
To make this possible, this patch changes the return type of
llvm::outs() and errs() to raw_fd_ostream&. Previously the functions
were constructing objects of that type, but returning a generic
raw_ostream reference. This makes it possible for new ToolOutputFile and
other code to use raw_fd_ostream methods like error() on the outs()
object. This does not seem like a bad thing (since stdout is a file
descriptor which can be redirected to anywhere, it makes sense to ask it
whether the writing was successful or if it supports seeking), and
indeed a lot of code was already depending on this fact via the
ToolOutputFile "back door".

This patch fixes VPIntrinsic::canIgnoreVectorLength when used on a
VPIntrinsic with scalable vector types. Also includes new unittest cases
for the '<vscale x 1 x whatever>' and '%evl == vscale' corner cases.
New functions `lockFile`, `tryLockFile` and `unlockFile` implement
simple file locking. They lock or unlock entire file. This must be
enough to support simulataneous writes to log files in parallel builds.

Summary:
This is a result of the discussion at D78113. Previously we would be
only giving the current offset at which the error was detected. However,
this was phrased somewhat ambiguously (as it could also mean that end of
data was at that offset). The new error message includes the current
offset as well as the extent of the data being read.
I've changed a couple of file-level static functions into private member
functions in order to avoid passing a bunch of new arguments everywhere.

Summary:
Instead of iterating over all VarLoc IDs in removeEntryValue(), just
iterate over the interval reserved for entry value VarLocs. This changes
the iteration order, hence the test update -- otherwise this is NFC.
This appears to give an ~8.5x wall time speed-up for LiveDebugValues when
compiling sqlite3.c 3.30.1 with a Release clang (on my machine):
```
---User Time--- --System Time-- --User+System-- ---Wall Time--- --- Name ---
Before: 2.5402 ( 18.8%) 0.0050 ( 0.4%) 2.5452 ( 17.3%) 2.5452 ( 17.3%) Live DEBUG_VALUE analysis
After: 0.2364 ( 2.1%) 0.0034 ( 0.3%) 0.2399 ( 2.0%) 0.2398 ( 2.0%) Live DEBUG_VALUE analysis
```
The change in removeEntryValue() is the only one that appears to affect
wall time, but for consistency (and to resolve a pending TODO), I made
the analogous changes for iterating over SpillLocKind VarLocs.

Summary:
The working set size heuristics (ProfileSummaryInfo::hasHugeWorkingSetSize)
under the partial sample PGO may not be accurate because the profile is partial
and the number of hot profile counters in the ProfileSummary may not reflect the
actual working set size of the program being compiled.
To improve this, the (approximated) ratio of the the number of profile counters
of the program being compiled to the number of profile counters in the partial
sample profile is computed (which is called the partial profile ratio) and the
working set size of the profile is scaled by this ratio to reflect the working
set size of the program being compiled and used for the working set size
heuristics.
The partial profile ratio is approximated based on the number of the basic
blocks in the program and the NumCounts field in the ProfileSummary and computed
through the thin LTO indexing. This means that there is the limitation that the
scaled working set size is available to the thin LTO post link passes only.

Summary:
This patch is part of a patch series to add support for FileCheck
numeric expressions. This specific patch adds support signed numeric
values, thus allowing negative numeric values.
As such, the patch adds a new class to represent a signed or unsigned
value and add the logic for type promotion and type conversion in
numeric expression mixing signed and unsigned values. It also adds
the %d format specifier to represent signed value.
Finally, it also adds underflow and overflow detection when performing a
binary operation.
