Fangrui Song a8f9f08018 [ELF] Set SHF_INFO_LINK for .rel[a].plt and .rel[a].dyn
The ELF spec says

> If the sh_flags field for this section header includes the attribute SHF_INFO_LINK, then this member represents a section header table index.

Set SHF_INFO_LINK so that binary manipulation tools know that sh_info is
a section header table index instead of (the number of local symbols in the case of SHT_SYMTAB/SHT_DYNSYM).
We have already added SHF_INFO_LINK for --emit-relocs retained SHT_REL[A].

For example, we can teach llvm-objcopy to preserve the section index of the sh_info referenced section if
SHF_INFO_LINK is set. (GNU objcopy recognizes .rel[a].plt and updates
sh_info even if SHF_INFO_LINK is not set).

In llvm-objdump, we pass the address of the next MCInst. Ideally we
should just thread the address of the current address, unfortunately we
cannot call X86MCCodeEmitter::encodeInstruction (X86MCCodeEmitter
requires MCInstrInfo and MCContext) to get the length of the MCInst.

MCInstPrinter::printInst has other callers (e.g llvm-mc -filetype=asm, llvm-mca) which set Address to 0.
They leave MCInstPrinter::PrintBranchImmAsAddress as false and this change is a no-op for them.

Fangrui Song 71e2ca6e32 [llvm-objdump] -d: print `00000000 <foo>:` instead of `00000000 foo:`
The new behavior matches GNU objdump. A pair of angle brackets makes tests slightly easier.

`.foo:` is not unique and thus cannot be used in a `CHECK-LABEL:` directive.
Without `-LABEL`, the CHECK line can match the `Disassembly of section`
line and causes the next `CHECK-NEXT:` to fail.

Fangrui Song 345f59667d [ELF] Rename .plt to .iplt and decrease EM_PPC{,64} alignment of .glink to 4
GNU ld creates the synthetic section .iplt, and has a built-in linker
script that assigns .iplt to the output section .plt . There is no
output section named .iplt .

Making .iplt an output section actually has a benefit that makes the
tricky toolchain feature stand out. Symbolizers don't have to deal with
mixed PLT entries (e.g. llvm-objdump -d incorrectly annotates such jump
targets).

On EM_PPC{,64}, .glink contains a PLT resolver and a series of jump
instructions. The 4-byte entry size makes it unnecessary to have an
alignment of 16.

Mark ppc32-gnu-ifunc.s and ppc32-gnu-ifunc-nonpreemptable.s as `XFAIL: *`.
They test IPLT on EM_PPC, which never works.

Fangrui Song 891a8655ab [ELF] Add IpltSection
PltSection is used by both PLT and IPLT. The PLT section may have a
header while the IPLT section does not. Split off IpltSection from
PltSection to be clearer.

Unlike other targets, PPC64 cannot use the same code sequence for PLT
and IPLT. This helps make a future PPC64 patch (D71509) more isolated.

On EM_386 and EM_X86_64, when PLT is empty while IPLT is not, currently
we are inconsistent whether the PLT header is conceptually attached to
in.plt or in.iplt .  Consistently attach the header to in.plt can make
the -z retpolineplt logic simpler. It also makes `jmp` point to an
aesthetically better place for non-retpolineplt cases.

Fangrui Song 25ab1c6471 [ELF] Move R_*_IRELATIVE from .rel[a].plt to .rel[a].dyn unless --pack-dyn-relocs=android[+relr]
An R_*_IRELATIVE represents the address of a STT_GNU_IFUNC symbol
(redirected at runtime) which is non-preemptable and is not associated
with a canonical PLT (associated with a symbol with a section index of
SHN_UNDEF but a non-zero st_value).

.rel[a].plt [DT_JMPREL, DT_JMPREL+DT_JMPRELSZ) contains relocations that
can be lazily resolved. R_*_IRELATIVE are always eagerly resolved, so
conceptually they do not belong to .rela.plt. "iplt" is mostly a misnomer.

glibc powerpc and powerpc64 do not resolve R_*_IRELATIVE if they are in .rela.plt.

The lld-linked executable crashes. ld.bfd places R_*_IRELATIVE in
.rela.dyn and the executable works.

glibc i386, x86_64, and aarch64 have logic
(glibc/sysdeps/*/dl-machine.h:elf_machine_lazy_rel) to eagerly resolve
R_*_IRELATIVE in .rel[a].plt so the lld-linked executable works.

Move R_*_IRELATIVE from .rel[a].plt to .rel[a].dyn to fix the crashes on
glibc powerpc/powerpc64. This also helps simplifying ifunc
implementation in FreeBSD rtld-elf powerpc64.

If --pack-dyn-relocs=android[+relr] is specified, the Android packed
dynamic relocation format is used for .rela.dyn. We cannot name
in.relaIplt ".rela.dyn" because the output section will have mixed
formats. This can be improved in the future.

Fangrui Song 27d036e995 [ELF] Change sh_link of .rel{,a}.plt to make GNU strip happy
Summary:
D52830 sets sh_link to .symtab in static link, which breaks executable stripped by GNU strip.
It may also be odd that .rela.plt (SHF_ALLOC) points to .symtab (non-SHF_ALLOC).

Change the logic on pcc's suggestion.

Before:

George Rimar 3368643f5e [ELF] - Set sh_info and sh_link for .rela.plt sections.
This is https://bugs.llvm.org/show_bug.cgi?id=37538,

Currently, LLD may set both sh_link and sh_info for
.rela.plt section to zero when we have only .rela.iplt section part used.

ELF spec (https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E19683-01/816-1386/chapter6-94076/index.html)
says that for SHT_REL and SHT_RELA, sh_link references the associated symbol table
and sh_info the "section to which the relocation applies."

When we set the sh_link field, for the regular case we use the .dynsym index.
For .rela.iplt sections, it is unclear what is the associated symbol table,
because R_*_RELATIVE relocations do not use symbol names and we might have no
.dynsym section at all so this patch uses .symtab section index.

Rafael Espindola 49419bb303 Use 0 as sh_link when we don't have a dynamic symbol table.
It doesn't make sense to link from an alloc section to a non alloc
one as we were doing.

This matches the behavior of both gold and bfd.

Peter Smith baffdb8bc2 [ELF] ifunc implementation using synthetic sections
This change introduces new synthetic sections IpltSection, IgotPltSection
that represent the ifunc entries that would previously have been put in
the PltSection and the GotPltSection. The separation makes sure that
the R_*_IRELATIVE relocations are placed after the non R_*_IRELATIVE
relocations, which permits ifunc resolvers to know that the .got.plt
slots will be initialized prior to the resolver being called.

A secondary benefit is that for ARM we can move the IgotPltSection and its
dynamic relocations to the .got and .rel.dyn as the ARM glibc expects all
the R_*_IRELATIVE relocations to be in the .rel.dyn

Rui Ueyama 3da3f06dd3 Include version string into ".comment" section.
Summary:
This patch adds a ".comment" section to an output. The comment
section contains the linker's version string. You can now
find out whether a binary is created by LLD or not using objdump
command like this.

Compilers emits .comment section as well, so the output contains
both compiler and linker information.

Alternative considered:

I first tried to add a SHT_NOTE section because GNU gold does that.
A NOTE section starts with a header which contains content type.
It turned out that ld.gold sets type NT_GNU_GOLD_VERSION to their
NOTE section. So the NOTE type is only for GNU gold (surprise!)

Next, I tried to create ".linker-version" section. However, it seems
that reusing the existing ".comment" section is better because 1)
other tools already know about .comment section and is able to strip
it and 2) the result contans not only linker info but also compiler
info.

Rafael Espindola ccfe3cb3d6 Don't store an Elf_Sym for most symbols.
Our symbol representation was redundant, and some times would get out of
sync. It had an Elf_Sym, but some fields were copied to SymbolBody.

Different parts of the code were checking the bits in SymbolBody and
others were checking Elf_Sym.

There are two general approaches to fix this:
* Copy the required information and don't store and Elf_Sym.
* Don't copy the information and always use the Elf_Smy.

The second way sounds tempting, but has a big problem: we would have to
template SymbolBody. I started doing it, but it requires templeting
*everything* and creates a bit chicken and egg problem at the driver
where we have to find ELFT before we can create an ArchiveFile for
example.

As much as possible I compared the test differences with what gold and
bfd produce to make sure they are still valid. In most cases we are just
adding hidden visibility to a local symbol, which is harmless.

In most tests this is a small speedup. The only slowdown was scylla
(1.006X). The largest speedup was clang with no --build-id, -O3 or
--gc-sections (i.e.: focus on the relocations): 1.019X.

George Rimar a07ff66112 [ELF] - Implemented R_*_IRELATIVE relocations for x86, x64 targets.
This relocation is similar to R_*_RELATIVE except that the value used in this relocation is the program address returned by the function, which takes no arguments, at the address of
the result of the corresponding R_*_RELATIVE relocation as specified in the processor-specific ABI. The purpose of this relocation to avoid name lookup for locally defined STT_GNU_IFUNC symbols at load-time.
