Mon P Wang 2e5528f0b2 Vectors with different number of elements of the same element type can have
the same allocation size but different primitive sizes(e.g., <3xi32> and
<4xi32>).  When ScalarRepl promotes them, it can't use a bit cast but
should use a shuffle vector instead.

Junjie Gu 7c3b4593b5 Passing unroll parameters (unroll-count, threshold, and partial unroll) via LoopUnroll class's ctor. Doing so
will allow multiple context with different loop unroll parameters to run.  This is a minor change and no effect

Andrew Trick b53a00d2cb Recommit r129383. PreRA scheduler heuristic fixes: VRegCycle, TokenFactor latency.
Additional fixes:
Do something reasonable for subtargets with generic
itineraries by handle node latency the same as for an empty
itinerary. Now nodes default to unit latency unless an itinerary
explicitly specifies a zero cycle stage or it is a TokenFactor chain.

Original fixes:
UnitsSharePred was a source of randomness in the scheduler: node
priority depended on the queue data structure. I rewrote the recent
VRegCycle heuristics to completely replace the old heuristic without
any randomness. To make the ndoe latency adjustments work, I also
needed to do something a little more reasonable with TokenFactor. I
gave it zero latency to its consumers and always schedule it as low as
possible.

Jakob Stoklund Olesen 987164043c Add @earlyclobber constraints to the writeback register of all ARM store instructions.
The ARMARM specifies these instructions as unpredictable when storing the
writeback register. This shouldn't affect code generation much since storing a
pointer to itself is quite rare.

Devang Patel f20c4f715f This mechanical patch moves type handling into CompileUnit from DwarfDebug. In case of multiple compile unit in one object file, each compile unit is responsible for its own set of type entries anyway. This refactoring makes this obvious.

Use a Bitvector instead, we didn't need the smaller memory footprint anyway.

Jim Grosbach 733d305fee MCJIT lazy relocation resolution and symbol address re-assignment.
Add handling for tracking the relocations on symbols and resolving them.
Keep track of the relocations even after they are resolved so that if
the RuntimeDyld client moves the object, it can update the address and any
relocations to that object will be updated.

For our trival object file load/run test harness (llvm-rtdyld), this enables
relocations between functions located in the same object module. It should
be trivially extendable to load multiple objects with mutual references.

As a simple example, the following now works (running on x86_64 Darwin 10.6):

Jakob Stoklund Olesen c70b697a40 Create new intervals for isolated blocks during region splitting.
This merges the behavior of splitSingleBlocks into splitAroundRegion, so the
RS_Region and RS_Block register stages can be coalesced. That means the leftover
intervals after region splitting go directly to spilling instead of a second
pass of per-block splitting.

Nick Lewycky 9d60e373cf Add support for line profiling. Very work-in-progress.
Use debug info in the IR to find the directory/file:line:col. Each time that location changes, bump a counter.

Unlike the existing profiling system, we don't try to look at argv[], and thusly don't require main() to be present in the IR. This matches GCC's technique where you specify the profiling flag when producing each .o file.

The runtime library is minimal, currently just calling printf at program shutdown time. The API is designed to make it possible to emit GCOV data later on.

Dan Gohman 1c6c34834b Fix reassociate to use a worklist instead of recursing when new
reassociation opportunities are exposed. This fixes a bug where
the nested reassociation expects to be the IR to be consistent,
but it isn't, because the outer reassociation has disconnected

Nick Lewycky 0f85789800 Just because a GlobalVariable's initializer is [N x { i32, void ()* }] doesn't
mean that it has to be ConstantArray of ConstantStruct. We might have
ConstantAggregateZero, at either level, so don't crash on that.

Also, semi-deprecate the sentinal value. The linker isn't aware of sentinals so
we end up with the two lists appended, each with their "sentinals" on them.
Different parts of LLVM treated sentinals differently, so make them all just
ignore the single entry and continue on with the rest of the list.

Bill Wendling 1e1f1c9ce1 The default of the dispatch switch statement was to branch to a BB that executed
the 'unwind' instruction. However, later on that instruction was converted into
a jump to the basic block it was located in, causing an infinite loop when we
get there.

It turns out, we get there if the _Unwind_Resume_or_Rethrow call returns (which
it's not supposed to do). It returns if it cannot find a place to unwind
to. Thus we would get what appears to be a "hang" when in reality it's just that
the EH couldn't be propagated further along.

Instead of infinitely looping (or calling `unwind', which none of our back-ends
support (it's lowered into nothing...)), call the @llvm.trap() intrinsic
instead. This may not conform to specific rules of a particular language, but
it's rather better than infinitely looping.

Kevin Enderby 9377a52c12 Adding support for printing operands symbolically to llvm's public 'C'
disassembler API.  Hooked this up to the ARM target so such tools as Darwin's
otool(1) can now print things like branch targets for example this:
  blx _puts
instead of this:
  blx #-36
And even print the expression encoded in the Mach-O relocation entried for
things like this:
  movt r0, :upper16:((_foo-_bar)+1234)

Both coalescing and register allocation already check aliases for interference,
so these extra segments are only slowing us down.

This speeds up both linear scan and the greedy register allocator.

Bill Wendling 3d5450d809 Beginning of the Great Exception Handling Rewrite.
* Add a "landing pad" attribute to the BasicBlock.
* Modify the bitcode reader and writer to handle said attribute.

Later: The verifier will ensure that the landing pad attribute is used in the
appropriate manner. I.e., not applied to the entry block, and applied only to
basic blocks that are branched to via a `dispatch' instruction.

(This is a work-in-progress.)

Jakob Stoklund Olesen ed47ed4e80 Build the Hopfield network incrementally when splitting global live ranges.
It is common for large live ranges to have few basic blocks with register uses
and many live-through blocks without any uses. This approach grows the Hopfield
network incrementally around the use blocks, completely avoiding checking
interference for some through blocks.

The previous cleanup of LDRD got overzealous and removed it, causing post-RA

Bill Wendling bc3f79044a Replace the old algorithm that emitted the "print the alias for an instruction"
with the newer, cleaner model. It uses the IAPrinter class to hold the
information that is needed to match an instruction with its alias. This also
takes into account the available features of the platform.

There is one bit of ugliness. The way the logic determines if a pattern is
unique is O(N**2), which is gross. But in reality, the number of items it's
checking against isn't large. So while it's N**2, it shouldn't be a massive time
sink.

Eli Friedman c5f22a7815 PR9634: Don't unconditionally tell the AliasSetTracker that the PreheaderLoad
is equivalent to any other relevant value; it isn't true in general.
If it is equivalent, the LoopPromoter will tell the AST the equivalence.
Also, delete the PreheaderLoad if it is unused.

that this is sane?

Jim Grosbach 23de2437bd RuntimeDyld should use the memory manager API.
Start teaching the runtime Dyld interface to use the memory manager API
for allocating space. Rather than mapping directly into the MachO object,
we extract the payload for each object and copy it into a dedicated buffer
allocated via the memory manager. For now, just do Segment64, so this works
on x86_64, but not yet on ARM.

Andrew Trick 12004013ef Added *hidden* flags -print-options and -print-all-options so
developers can see if their driver changed any cl::Option's. The
current implementation isn't perfect but handles most kinds of
options. This is nice to have when decomposing the stages of
compilation and moving between different drivers. It's also a good
sanity check when comparing results produced by different command line
invocations that are expected to produce the comparable results.

Note: This is not an attempt to prolong the life of cl::Option. On the
contrary, it's a placeholder for a feature that must exist when
cl::Option is replaced by a more appropriate framework. A new
framework needs: a central option registry, dynamic name lookup,
non-global containers of option values (e.g. per-module,
per-function), *and* the ability to print options values and their defaults at
any point during compilation.

getEDInfo(), in which case this code would dereference
NULL. EDInst can already handle NULL info, so avoid

An alternative syntax is available for a modified immediate constant that permits the programmer to specify
the encoding directly. In this syntax, #<const> is instead written as #<byte>,#<rot>, where:

    <rot> is twice the numeric value of rotation, an even number in the range 0-30.

This allows us to always keep the smaller slot for an instruction which is what
we want when a register has early clobber defines.

Nadav Rotem a069c6ce05 InstCombine optimizes gep(bitcast(x)) even when the bitcasts casts away address
space info. We crash with an assert in this case. This change checks that the
address space of the bitcasted pointer is the same as the gep ptr.

Bill Wendling dd4dcd549b Revamp the SjLj "dispatch setup" intrinsic.
It needed to be moved closer to the setjmp statement, because the code directly
after the setjmp needs to know about values that are on the stack. Also, the
'bitcast' of the function context was causing a dead load. This wouldn't be too
horrible, except that at -O0 it wasn't optimized out, and because it wasn't
using the correct base pointer (if there is a VLA), it would try to access a
value from a garbage address.

Jim Grosbach 2dcef0505f Layer the memory manager between the JIT and the runtime Dyld.
The JITMemory manager references LLVM IR constructs directly, while the
runtime Dyld works at a lower level and can handle objects which may not
originate from LLVM IR. Introduce a new layer for the memory manager to
handle the interface between them. For the MCJIT, this layer will be almost
entirely simply a call-through w/ translation between the IR objects and
symbol names.

Jakob Stoklund Olesen 2e85396509 Allow coalescing with reserved physregs in certain cases:
When a virtual register has a single value that is defined as a copy of a
reserved register, permit that copy to be joined. These virtual register are
usually copies of the stack pointer:

  %vreg75<def> = COPY %ESP; GR32:%vreg75
  MOV32mr %vreg75, 1, %noreg, 0, %noreg, %vreg74<kill>
  MOV32mi %vreg75, 1, %noreg, 8, %noreg, 0
  MOV32mi %vreg75<kill>, 1, %noreg, 4, %noreg, 0
  CALLpcrel32 ...

Coalescing these virtual registers early decreases register pressure.
Previously, they were coalesced by RALinScan::attemptTrivialCoalescing after
register allocation was completed.

The lower register pressure causes the mcinst-lowering-cmp0.ll test case to fail
because it depends on linear scan spilling a particular register.

I am deleting 2008-08-05-SpillerBug.ll because it is counting the number of
instructions emitted, and its revision history shows the 'correct' count being
edited many times.

Eric Christopher ee066fc4f3 Assorted bugfixes in object file handling:
- Adds support for sniffing PE/COFF files on win32 (.exe and .dll)
   which are COFF files that have an MS-DOS compatibility stub on
   the front of them.

 - Fixes a bug in the COFFObjectFile's support for the Microsoft COFF
   extension for long symbol names, wherein it was attempting to parse
   the leading '/' in an extended symbol name reference as part of the
   integer offset.

 - Fixes bugs in COFFObjectFile and ELFObjectFile wherein section
   and symbol iterators were being returned with uninitialized bytes;
   the type DataRefImpl is a union between 2 32-bit words (d.a and d.b)
   and a single intptr_t word (p). Only p was being initialized, so in
   32-bit builds the result would be iterators with random upper 32-bit
   words in their DataRefImpls. This caused random failures when
   seeking around in object files.

Eli Friedman 17bf4922c9 PR9446: RecursivelyDeleteTriviallyDeadInstructions can delete the instruction
after the given instruction; make sure to handle that case correctly.
(It's difficult to trigger; the included testcase involves a dead 
block, but I don't think that's a requirement.) 

While I'm here, get rid of the unnecessary warning about
SimplifyInstructionsInBlock, since it should work correctly as far as I know.

Jakob Stoklund Olesen 9a78835414 Mark all uses as <undef> when joining a copy.
This way, shrinkToUses() will ignore the instruction that is about to be
deleted, and we avoid leaving invalid live ranges that SplitKit doesn't like.

Fix a misunderstanding in MachineVerifier about <def,undef> operands. The
<undef> flag is valid on def operands where it has the same meaning as <undef>
on a use operand. It only applies to sub-register defines which also read the
full register.

Bruno Cardoso Lopes 4c0aebfb91 Reapply r128585 without generating a lib depedency cycle. An updated log:
- Implement asm parsing support for LDRT, LDRBT, STRT, STRBT and
  {STR,LDC}{2}_{PRE,POST} fixing the encoding wherever is possible.
- Move all instructions which use am2offset without a pattern to use
  addrmode2.
- Add a new encoding bit to describe the index mode used and teach
  printAddrMode2Operand to check by the addressing mode which index

Jakob Stoklund Olesen ae044c06bf Pick a conservative register class when creating a small live range for remat.
The rematerialized instruction may require a more constrained register class
than the register being spilled. In the test case, the spilled register has been
inflated to the DPR register class, but we are rematerializing a load of the
ssub_0 sub-register which only exists for DPR_VFP2 registers.

The register class is reinflated after spilling, so the conservative choice is
only temporary.

Bruno Cardoso Lopes 280264b889 - Implement asm parsing support for LDRT, LDRBT, STRT, STRBT and

- Fixed the encoding in some places.
- Some of those instructions were using am2offset and now use addrmode2.
Codegen isn't affected, instructions which use SelectAddrMode2Offset were not
touched.
- Teach printAddrMode2Operand to check by the addressing mode which index
mode to print.
- This is a work in progress, more work to come. The idea is to change places
which use am2offset to use addrmode2 instead, as to unify assembly parser.
- Add testcases for assembly parser

Bill Wendling 5034159c5f * The DSE code that tested for overlapping needed to take into account the fact
that one of the numbers is signed while the other is unsigned. This could lead
  to a wrong result when the signed was promoted to an unsigned int.

* Add the data layout line to the testcase so that it will test the appropriate
  thing.

Jakob Stoklund Olesen 846f95080c Reset StringMap's NumTombstones on clears and rehashes.
StringMap was not properly updating NumTombstones after a clear or rehash.

This was not fatal until now because the table was growing faster than
NumTombstones could, but with the previous change of preventing infinite
growth of the table the invariant (NumItems + NumTombstones <= NumBuckets)
stopped being observed, causing infinite loops in certain situations.

Jakob Stoklund Olesen ae917a3740 Fix evil VirtRegRewriter bug.
The rewriter can keep track of multiple stack slots in the same register if they
happen to have the same value. When an instruction modifies a stack slot by
defining a register that is mapped to a stack slot, other stack slots in that
register are no longer valid.

This is a very rare problem, and I don't have a simple test case. I get the
impression that VirtRegRewriter knows it is about to be deleted, inventing a
last opaque problem.

Benjamin Kramer 03fd672609 Add APFloat::getExactInverse.
The idea is, that if an ieee 754 float is divided by a power of two, we can
turn the division into a cheaper multiplication. This function sees if we can
get an exact multiplicative inverse for a divisor and returns it if possible.

This is the hard part of PR9587.

I tested many inputs against llvm-gcc's frotend implementation of this
optimization and didn't find any difference. However, floating point is the
land of weird edge cases, so any review would be appreciated.

Jakob Stoklund Olesen dd9a2ecef7 Treat clones the same as their origin.
When DCE clones a live range because it separates into connected components,
make sure that the clones enter the same register allocator stage as the
register they were cloned from.

For instance, clones may be split even when they where created during spilling.
Other registers created during spilling are not candidates for splitting or even
(re-)spilling.

Evan Cheng 18381b4257 Add intrinsics @llvm.arm.neon.vmulls and @llvm.arm.neon.vmullu.* back. Frontends
was lowering them to sext / uxt + mul instructions. Unfortunately the
optimization passes may hoist the extensions out of the loop and separate them.
When that happens, the long multiplication instructions can be broken into
several scalar instructions, causing significant performance issue.

Note the vmla and vmls intrinsics are not added back. Frontend will codegen them
as intrinsics vmull* + add / sub. Also note the isel optimizations for catching
mul + sext / zext are not changed either.

isel lowering to fold the zero-extend's and take advantage of no-stall
back to back vmul + vmla:

This allows us to vmull + vmlal for:

otool(1), this time with the needed fix for case sensitive file systems :) .
This is a work in progress as the interface for producing symbolic operands is
not done.  But a hacked prototype using information from the object file's
relocation entiries and replacing immediate operands with MCExpr's has been
shown to work with no changes to the instrucion printer.  These APIs will be
moved into a dynamic library at some point.

The reassignment phase was able to move interference with a higher spill weight,
but it didn't happen very often and it was fairly expensive.

The existing interference eviction picks up the slack.

Nick Lewycky 83167df787 Add a small missed optimization: turn X == C ? X : Y into X == C ? C : Y. This
removes one use of X which helps it pass the many hasOneUse() checks.

In my analysis, this turns up very often where X = A >>exact B and that can't be
simplified unless X has one use (except by increasing the lifetime of A which is
generally a performance loss).

Bill Wendling 19f33b9393 Rework the logic that determines if a store completely overlaps an ealier store.
There are two ways that a later store can comletely overlap a previous store:

1. They both start at the same offset, but the earlier store's size is <= the
   later's size, or
2. The earlier store's offset is > the later's offset, but it's offset + size
   doesn't extend past the later's offset + size.

Jakob Stoklund Olesen 9a624fa993 Collect and coalesce DBG_VALUE instructions before emitting the function.
Correctly terminate the range of register DBG_VALUEs when the register is
clobbered or when the basic block ends.

The code is now ready to deal with variables that are sometimes in a register
and sometimes on the stack. We just need to teach emitDebugLoc to say 'stack
slot'.

Eric Christopher d553096688 Fix the bfi handling for or (and a mask) (and b mask). We need the two
masks to match inversely for the code as is to work. For the example given
we actually want:

bfi r0, r2, #1, #1

not #0, however, given the way the pattern is written it's not possible
at the moment.

Jakob Stoklund Olesen 1886a4c823 Emit less labels for debug info and stop emitting .loc directives for DBG_VALUEs.
The .dot directives don't need labels, that is a leftover from when we created
line number info manually.

Instructions following a DBG_VALUE can share its label since the DBG_VALUE
doesn't produce any code.

Johnny Chen 8bbc12824a ADR was added with the wrong encoding for inst{24-21}, and the ARM decoder was fooled.
Set the encoding bits to {0,?,?,0}, not 0.  Plus delegate the disassembly of ADR to
the more generic ADDri/SUBri instructions, and add a test case for that.
