serge-sans-paille 3667d87a33 Double check that passes correctly set their Modified status
The approach is simple: if a pass reports that it's not modifying a
Function/Module, compute a loose hash of that Function/Module and compare it
with the original one. If we report no change but there's a hash change, then we
have an error.

This approach misses a lot of change but it's not super intrusive and can
detect most of the simple mistakes.

Tyker 8d09f20798 [AssumeBundles] Use operand bundles to encode alignment assumptions
Summary:
NOTE: There is a mailing list discussion on this: http://lists.llvm.org/pipermail/llvm-dev/2019-December/137632.html

Complemantary to the assumption outliner prototype in D71692, this patch
shows how we could simplify the code emitted for an alignemnt
assumption. The generated code is smaller, less fragile, and it makes it
easier to recognize the additional use as a "assumption use".

As mentioned in D71692 and on the mailing list, we could adopt this
scheme, and similar schemes for other patterns, without adopting the
assumption outlining.

Dmitry Polukhin 9e7fddbd36 [yaml][clang-tidy] Fix multiline YAML serialization
Summary:
New line duplication logic introduced in https://reviews.llvm.org/D63482
has two issues: (1) there is no logic that removes duplicate newlines
when clang-apply-replacment reads YAML and (2) in general such logic
should be applied to all strings and should happen on string
serialization level instead in YAML parser.

This diff changes multiline strings quotation from single quote `'` to
double `"`. It solves problems with internal newlines because now they are
escaped. Also double quotation solves the problem with leading whitespace after
newline. In case of single quotation YAML parsers should remove leading
whitespace according to specification. In case of double quotation these
leading are internal space and they are preserved. There is no way to
instruct YAML parsers to preserve leading whitespaces after newline so
double quotation is the only viable option that solves all problems at
once.

Georgii Rymar bee8cdcabd [DebugInfo/DWARF] - Test invalid CFI opcodes properly and refine related `CFIProgram::parse` code.
There are following issues with `CFIProgram::parse` code:

1) Invalid CFI opcodes were never tested. And currently a test would fail
when the `LLVM_ENABLE_ABI_BREAKING_CHECKS` is enabled. It happens because
the `DataExtractor::Cursor C` remains unchecked when the
"Invalid extended CFI opcode" error is reported:

```
.eh_frame section at offset 0x1128 address 0x0:
Program aborted due to an unhandled Error:
Error value was Success. (Note: Success values must still be checked prior to being destroyed).
```

2) It is impossible to reach the "Invalid primary CFI opcode" error with the current code.
There are 3 possible primary opcode values and all of them are handled. Hence this error
should be replaced with llvm_unreachable.

3) Errors currently reported are upper-case.

This patch refines the code in the `CFIProgram::parse` method to fix all issues mentioned
and adds unit tests for all possible invalid extended CFI opcodes.

Stanislav Mekhanoshin 7c03872645 LIS: fix handleMove to properly extend main range
handleMoveDown or handleMoveUp cannot properly repair a main
range of a LiveInterval since they only get LiveRange. There
is a problem if certain use has moved few segments away and
there is a hole in the main range in between of these two
locations. We may get a SubRange with a very extended Segment
spanning several Segments of the main range and also spanning
that hole. If that happens then we end up with the main range
not covering its SubRange which is an error.

It might be possible to attempt fixing the main range in place
just between of the old and new index by extending all of its
Segments in between, but it is unclear this logic will be
faster than just straight constructMainRangeFromSubranges,
which itself is pretty cheap since it only contains interval
logic. That will also require shrinkToUses() call after which
is probably even more expensive.

In the test second move is from 64B to 92B for the sub1.
Subrange is correctly fixed:

L000000000000000C [16r,32B:0)[32B,92r:1) 0@16r 1@32B-phi

But the main range has a hole in between 80d and 88r after
updateRange():

%1 [16r,32B:0)[32B,80r:4)[80r,80d:3)[88r,96r:1)[96r,160B:2)

Since source position is 64B this segment is not even considered
by the updateRange().

Oliver Stannard e80b81d1cb [Support] Fix formatted_raw_ostream for UTF-8
* The getLine and getColumn functions need to update the position, or
they will return stale data for buffered streams. This fixes a bug in
the clang -analyzer-checker-option-help option, which was not wrapping
the help text correctly when stdout is not a TTY.
* If the stream contains multi-byte UTF-8 sequences, then the whole
sequence needs to be considered to be a single character. This has the
edge case that the buffer might fill up and be flushed part way
  through a character.
* If the stream contains East Asian wide characters, these will be
rendered twice as wide as other characters, so we need to increase the
  column count to match.

This doesn't attempt to handle everything unicode can do (combining
characters, right-to-left markers, ...), but hopefully covers most
things likely to be common in messages and source code we might want to
print.

Because of the way a lot of the the vcvt instructions are specified

Guillaume Chatelet b56b467a9a [ADT] Add Bitfield utilities
Context:
--------
There are places in LLVM where we need to pack typed fields into opaque values.
For instance, the `XXXInst` classes in `llvm/include/llvm/IR/Instructions.h` that extract informations from `Value::SubclassData` via `getSubclassDataFromInstruction()`.
The bit twiddling is done manually: this impairs readability and prevent consistent handling of out of range values (e.g. 435b458ad0/llvm/include/llvm/IR/Instructions.h (L564))
More importantly, the bit pattern is scattered throughout the implementation making it hard to pack additionnal fields or check for overlapping bits.

Design decisions:
-----------------
The Bitfield structs are to be declared together so it is clear which bits are used or not.
The code is designed with simplicity in mind, hence a few limitations:
 - Storage is limited to a single integer,
 - Enum values have to be `unsigned`,
 - Storage type has to be `unsigned`,
 - There are no automatic detection of overlapping fields (packed bitfield declaration should help though),
 - The interface is C like so `storage` needs to be passed in everytime (code is simpler and lifetime considerations more obvious)

Mircea Trofin e2cc854015 [llvm][NFC] Move content of ML subdirectory into Analysis
The initial intent was to organize ML stuff in its own directory, but
it turns out that conflicts with llvm component layering policies: it
is not a component, because subsequent changes want to rely on other
analyses, which would create a cycle; and we don't have a reliable,
cross-platform mechanism to compile files in a subdirectory, and fit in
the existing LLVM build structure.

This change moves the files into Analysis, and subsequent changes will
leverage conditional compilation for those that have optional

Mircea Trofin 695c7d6313 [llvm] Added support for stand-alone cmake object libraries.
Summary:
Currently, add_llvm_library would create an OBJECT library alongside
of a STATIC / SHARED library, but losing the link interface (its
elements would become dependencies instead). To support scenarios
where linking an object library also brings in its usage
requirements, this patch adds support for 'stand-alone' OBJECT
libraries - i.e. without an accompanying SHARED/STATIC library, and
maintaining the link interface defined by the user.

The support is via a new option, OBJECT_ONLY, to avoid breaking changes
- since just specifying "OBJECT" would currently imply also STATIC or
SHARED, depending on BUILD_SHARED_LIBS.

This is useful for cases where, for example, we want to build a part
of a component separately. Using a STATIC target would incur the risk
that symbols not referenced in the consumer would be dropped (which may
be undesirable).

The current application is the ML part of Analysis. It should be part
of the Analysis component, so it may reference other analyses; and (in
upcoming changes) it has dependencies on optional libraries.

Wenlei He b559535a3a [NewPM] Avoid redundant CGSCC run for updated SCC
Summary:
When an SCC got split due to inlining, we have two mechanisms for reprocessing the updated SCC, first is UR.UpdatedC
that repeatedly rerun the new, current SCC; second is a worklist for all newly split SCCs. We can avoid rerun of
the same SCC when the SCC is set to be processed by both mechanisms *back to back*. In pathological cases, such redundant
rerun could cause exponential size growth due to inlining along cycles, even when there's no SCC mutation and hence
convergence is not a problem.

Note that it's ok to have SCC updated and rerun immediately, and also in the work list if we have actually moved an SCC
to be topologically "below" the current one due to merging. In that case, we will need to revisit the current SCC after
those moved SCCs. For that reason, the redundant avoidance here only targets back to back rerun of the same SCC - the
case described by the now removed FIXME comment.

Nikita Popov 5f565c0419 [IR] Support efficient AssertingVH/PoisoningVH lookup
Currently, there doesn't seem to be any way to look up a Value*
in a map/set indexed by AssertingVH/PoisoningVH, without creating
a value handle -- which is fairly expensive, because it involves
adding the value handle to the use list and immediately removing
it again. Using find_as(Value *) does not work (and is in fact
worse than just using find(Value *)), because it will end up
creating multiple value handles during the lookup itself.

For AssertingVH, address this by simply using DenseMapInfo<T *>
instead of manually implementing something. The AssertingVH<T>
will now get coerced to T*, rather than the other way around.

For PoisoningVH, add extra overloads of getHashValue() and
isEqual() that accept a T* argument.

This allows using find_as(Value *) to perform efficient lookups
in assertion-enabled builds.

Raphael Isemann f60e319419 ADT: Fix that APSInt's string constructor claims it requires 5 bits to store a zero
Summary:

When constructing an APSInt from a string, the constructor doesn't correctly
truncate the bit width of the result if the passed in string was "0" (or any
alternative way to express 0 like "-0" or "000"). Instead of 1 (which is the
smallest allowed bit width) it returns an APSInt with a bit width of 5.

The reason is that the constructor checks that it never truncates the result to
the invalid bit width of 0, so when it calculates that storing a "0" doesn't
require any bits it just keeps the original overestimated bit width (which
happens to be 5).

This patch just sets the bit width of the result to 1 if the required bit width
is 0.

The new line printing for debug line verbose output was inconsistent.
For new rows in the matrix, a blank line followed, whilst the

potential inconsistency in the blank lines at the end of the table. This
patch mostly resolves these issues - no blank lines appear in the output
except for a single line after the prologue and at table end to separate
it from any subsquent table, plus some instances after error messages.

Also add a unit test for verbose output to test the fine details of new

Verbose and non-verbose parsing of .debug_line produced their output at

that error messages were produced at different times, but it also

This change makes the two variants consistent by printing non-verbose

Pavel Labath 48cd9d9dd8 [Support] Use outs() in ToolOutputFile
Summary:
If the output filename was specified as "-", the ToolOutputFile class
would create a brand new raw_ostream object referring to the stdout.
This patch changes it to reuse the llvm::outs() singleton.

At the moment, this change should be "NFC", but it does enable other
enhancements, like the automatic stdout/stderr synchronization as
discussed on D80803.

I've checked the history, and I did not find any indication that this
class *has* to use a brand new stream object instead of outs() --
indeed, it is special-casing "-" in a number of places already, so this
change fits the pattern pretty well. I suspect the main reason for the
current state of affairs is that the class was originally introduced
(r111595, in 2010) as a raw_fd_ostream subclass, which made any other
solution impossible.

Another potential benefit of this patch is that it makes it possible to
move the raw_ostream class out of the business of special-casing "-" for
stdout handling. That state of affairs does not seem appropriate because
"-" is a valid filename (albeit hard to access with a lot of command
line tools) on most systems. Handling "-" in ToolOutputFile seems more
appropriate.

To make this possible, this patch changes the return type of
llvm::outs() and errs() to raw_fd_ostream&. Previously the functions
were constructing objects of that type, but returning a generic
raw_ostream reference. This makes it possible for new ToolOutputFile and
other code to use raw_fd_ostream methods like error() on the outs()
object. This does not seem like a bad thing (since stdout is a file
descriptor which can be redirected to anywhere, it makes sense to ask it
whether the writing was successful or if it supports seeking), and
indeed a lot of code was already depending on this fact via the
ToolOutputFile "back door".

Vedant Kumar 2ecaf93525 [LiveDebugValues] Speed up removeEntryValue, NFC
Summary:
Instead of iterating over all VarLoc IDs in removeEntryValue(), just
iterate over the interval reserved for entry value VarLocs. This changes
the iteration order, hence the test update -- otherwise this is NFC.

This appears to give an ~8.5x wall time speed-up for LiveDebugValues when
compiling sqlite3.c 3.30.1 with a Release clang (on my machine):

```
          ---User Time---   --System Time--   --User+System--   ---Wall Time--- --- Name ---
  Before: 2.5402 ( 18.8%)   0.0050 (  0.4%)   2.5452 ( 17.3%)   2.5452 ( 17.3%) Live DEBUG_VALUE analysis
   After: 0.2364 (  2.1%)   0.0034 (  0.3%)   0.2399 (  2.0%)   0.2398 (  2.0%) Live DEBUG_VALUE analysis
```

The change in removeEntryValue() is the only one that appears to affect
wall time, but for consistency (and to resolve a pending TODO), I made
the analogous changes for iterating over SpillLocKind VarLocs.

Hiroshi Yamauchi 6c27c61d32 [PGO] Improve the working set size heuristics under the partial sample PGO.
Summary:
The working set size heuristics (ProfileSummaryInfo::hasHugeWorkingSetSize)
under the partial sample PGO may not be accurate because the profile is partial
and the number of hot profile counters in the ProfileSummary may not reflect the
actual working set size of the program being compiled.

To improve this, the (approximated) ratio of the the number of profile counters
of the program being compiled to the number of profile counters in the partial
sample profile is computed (which is called the partial profile ratio) and the
working set size of the profile is scaled by this ratio to reflect the working
set size of the program being compiled and used for the working set size
heuristics.

The partial profile ratio is approximated based on the number of the basic
blocks in the program and the NumCounts field in the ProfileSummary and computed
through the thin LTO indexing. This means that there is the limitation that the
scaled working set size is available to the thin LTO post link passes only.

Matt Arsenault 4b4496312e AMDGPU: Start adding MODE register uses to instructions
This is the groundwork required to implement strictfp. For now, this
should be NFC for regular instructoins (many instructions just gain an
extra use of a reserved register). Regalloc won't rematerialize
instructions with reads of physical registers, but we were suffering
from that anyway with the exec reads.

Should add it for all the related FP uses (possibly with some
extras). I did not add it to either the gpr index mode instructions
(or every single VALU instruction) since it's a ridiculous feature
already modeled as an arbitrary side effect.

Also work towards marking instructions with FP exceptions. This
doesn't actually set the bit yet since this would start to change
codegen. It seems nofpexcept is currently not implied from the regular
IR FP operations. Add it to some MIR tests where I think it might
matter.

Craig Topper 7392820f98 [Align] Remove operations on MaybeAlign that asserted that it had a defined value.
If the caller needs to reponsible for making sure the MaybeAlign
has a value, then we should just make the caller convert it to an Align
with operator*.

I explicitly deleted the relational comparison operators that
were being inherited from Optional. It's unclear what the meaning
of two MaybeAligns were one is defined and the other isn't
should be. So make the caller reponsible for defining the behavior.

I left the ==/!= operators from Optional. But now that exposed a
weird quirk that ==/!= between Align and MaybeAlign required the
MaybeAlign to be defined. But now we use the operator== from
Optional that takes an Optional and the Value.

Vedant Kumar 77ffce6954 [Instruction] Set metadata uses to undef on deletion
Summary:
Replace any extant metadata uses of a dying instruction with undef to
preserve debug info accuracy. Some alternatives include:

- Treat Instruction like any other Value, and point its extant metadata
uses to an empty ValueAsMetadata node. This makes extant dbg.value uses
trivially dead (i.e. fair game for deletion in many passes), leading to
stale dbg.values being in effect for too long.

- Call salvageDebugInfoOrMarkUndef. Not needed to make instruction removal
correct. OTOH results in wasted work in some common cases (e.g. when all
instructions in a BasicBlock are deleted).

This came up while discussing some basic cases in
https://reviews.llvm.org/D80052.

Tim Renouf db16eb33ce [MsgPack] Added convenience assignment to MsgPackDocument
This commit increases the convenience of using the MsgPackDocument API,
especially when creating a document for writing out.

It adds direct assignment of bool, integer and string types to a
DocNode, as long as that DocNode is already inside a document, e.g. the
result of a map lookup. It also adds map lookup given an integer type
(it already had that for string).

So, to assign a string to a map element whose key is an int, you can
now write
  MyMap[42] = "towel";
instead of
  MyMap[MyMap.getDocument()->getNode(42)] =
      MyMap.getDocument()->getNode("towel");

Also added MapDocNode::erase methods.

Hide the method that allows setting probability for particular edge

Related bug is fixed in BranchProbabilityInfo::calcMetadataWeights().
Changing unreachable branch probabilities to raw(1) and distributing

If we don't know anything about the alignment of a pointer, Align(1) is
still correct: all pointers are at least 1-byte aligned.

Included in this patch is a bugfix for an issue discovered during this
cleanup: pointers with "dereferenceable" attributes/metadata were
assumed to be aligned according to the type of the pointer. This
wasn't intentional, as far as I can tell, so Loads.cpp was fixed to
stop making this assumption. Frontends may need to be updated. I

so we need to truncate if the ptrtoint zexted and anyext if

- Move algorithms from llvm::parallel:: to llvm::, since they have

- Add range overloads
- Use the sequential algorithm directly when 1 thread is requested
  (skips task grouping)
- Fix the index type of parallelForEachN to size_t. Nobody in LLVM was

Reid Kleckner 53913a65b4 Optimize path::remove_dots
LLD calls this on every source file string in every object file when
writing PDBs, so it is somewhat hot.

Avoid rewriting paths that do not contain path traversal components
(./..). Use find_first_not_of(separators) directly instead of using the
path iterators. The path component iterators appear to be slow, and
directly searching for slashes makes it easier to find double separators
that need to be canonicalized.

I discovered that the VFS relies on remote_dots to not canonicalize
early slashes (/foo or C:/foo) on Windows, so I had to leave that
behavior behind with unit tests for it. This is undesirable, but I claim
that my change is NFC.

Nico Weber b9d50bdff2 Fix pr31836 on Windows too, and correctly handle repeated separators.
The approach in D30000 assumes that the '/' returned by path::begin()
is the first element for absolute paths, but that's not true on
Windows.

Also, on Windows backslashes in include lines often end up escaped
so that there are two of them. Having backslashes in include lines
is undefined behavior in most cases and implementation-defined
behavior in C++20, but since clang treats it as normal repeated
path separators, the diagnostic should too.

Unbreaks -Wnonportable-include-path for absolute paths on Windows,
and unbreaks it on non-Windows in the case of absolute paths with
repeated directory separators.

This affects e.g. the `#include __FILE__` technique if the file
passed to clang has the wrong case for the drive letter. Before:

C:\src\llvm-project>bin\clang-cl.exe c:\src\llvm-project\test.cc
c:\\src\\llvm-project\\test.cc(4,10): warning: non-portable path to file
'"c\\srccllvm-projectctest.cc.'; specified path differs in case from
    file name on disk [-Wnonportable-include-path]
         ^

Now:

For Windows, that is %LOCALAPPDATA%, and applications should put their files under %LOCALAPPDATA%\Organization\Product\.

For *nixes, it adheres to the XDG Base Directory Specification, so it first looks at the XDG_CACHE_HOME environment variable and falls back to ~/.cache/.

Subsequently, the Clangd Index storage leverages this new API to put index files somewhere else than the users home directory.

raw_string_ostream can just use the std::string as a buffer. The buffer
requirement came from the days when the minimum buffer size was 128

inline capacity for small things and on a good growth strategy later.

This assumes that the standard library isn't doing something bad like
only growing to the exact size. I checked some common implementations
and they grow by 2x (libc++) or 1.5x (msvc) which is reasonable. We
should still check if this incurs any performance regressions though.

Pavel Labath c475856d05 [DWARFDebugLine] Check for errors when parsing v2 file/dir lists
Summary:
Without this we could silently accept an invalid prologue because the
default DataExtractor behavior is to return an empty string when
reaching the end of file. And empty string is also used to terminate
these lists.

This makes the parsing code slightly more complicated, but this
complexity will go away once the parser starts working with truncating
data extractors. The reason I am doing it this way is because without
this, the truncation would regress the quality of error messages (right
now, we produce bad error messages only near EOF, but truncation would
make everything behave as if it was near EOF).

Pavel Labath cc0acda782 [DWARFDataExtractor] Add a "truncating" constructor
Summary:
This constructor allows us to create a new DWARFDataExtractor which will
only present a subrange of an entire debug section. Since debug sections
typically consist of multiple contributions, it is expected that one
will create a new data extractor for each contribution in order to
avoid unexpectedly running off into the next one.

This is very useful for unifying the flows for detecting parse errors.
Without it, the code needs to consider two very different scenarios:
1. If there is another contribution after the current one, the
DataExtractor functions will just start reading from there. This is
detectable by comparing the current offset against the known
   end-of-contribution offset.
2. If this is the last contribution, the data extractor will just start
returning zeroes (or other default values). This situation can *not*
be detected by checking the parsing offset, as this will not be
   advanced in case of errors.

Using a truncated data extractor simplifies the code (and reduces
cognitive load) by making these two cases behave identically -- a
running off the end of a contribution will _always_ produce an EOF error
(if one uses error-aware parsing methods) or return default values.
