Leonard Chan cf371573b0 [llvm] Change DSOLocalEquivalent type if the underlying global value type changes
We encountered an issue where LTO running on IR that used the DSOLocalEquivalent
constant would result in bad codegen. The underlying issue was ValueMapper wasn't
properly handling DSOLocalEquivalent, so this just adds the machinery for handling
it. This code path is triggered by a fix to DSOLocalEquivalent::handleOperandChangeImpl
where DSOLocalEquivalent could potentially not have the same type as its underlying GV.

This updates DSOLocalEquivalent::handleOperandChangeImpl to change the type if
the GV type changes and handles this constant in ValueMapper.

Nashe Mncube 0327cfe2f7 [llvm-link] fix IRMover returning wrong modified vector type
Modified scalable vector types weren't correctly returned at link-time.
The previous behaviour was a FixedVectorType was constructed
when expecting a ScalableVectorType. This commit has added a regression
test which re-creates the failure as well as a fix.

Matt Arsenault c5ce6036c1 Linker: Fix linking of byref types
This wasn't properly remapping the type like with the other
attributes, so this would end up hitting a verifier error after
linking different modules using byref.

Rainer Orth 7af4bbb643 [test] XFAIL two tests with inlining debug info issues on Sparc
Currently only two test failures remain on Sparc, both
`sparcv9-sun-solaris2.11` and `sparc64-unknown-linux-gnu`:

  LLVM :: DebugInfo/Generic/debug-label-inline.ll
  LLVM :: Linker/subprogram-linkonce-weak.ll

They seem related in that debug info isn't generated for instruction
bundles (like `retl+add` in the delay slot).

I've filed separate bugs for both files (Bug 47129 and 47131), though it's
probably the same issue.

This patch `XFAIL`s the tests.

Tested on `sparcv9-sun-solaris2.11` and `amd64-pc-solaris2.11`.

Itay Bookstein df9d64ed9c [IR] Add missing GlobalAlias copying of ThreadLocalMode attribute
Summary:
Previously, GlobalAlias::copyAttributesFrom did not preserve ThreadLocalMode,
causing incorrect IR generation in IR linking flows. This patch pushes the code
responsible for copying this attribute from GlobalVariable::copyAttributesFrom
down to GlobalValue::copyAttributesFrom so that it is shared by GlobalAlias.

Ted Woodward 7683a084de Remove lit feature object-emission
Summary: The lit feature object-emission was added because Hexagon did not support the integrated assembler, so some tests needed to be turned off with a Hexagon target. Hexagon now supports the integrated assembler, so this feature can be removed.

David Blaikie ba9cae58bb IR Linking: Support merging Warning+Max module metadata flags
Summary:
Debug Info Version was changed to use "Max" instead of "Warning" per the
original design intent - but this maxes old/new IR unlinkable, since
mismatched merge styles are a linking failure.

It seems possible/maybe reasonable to actually support the combination
of these two flags: Warn, but then use the maximum value rather than the
first value/earlier module's value.

Tim Northover a009a60a91 IR: print value numbers for unnamed function arguments
For consistency with normal instructions and clarity when reading IR,
it's best to print the %0, %1, ... names of function arguments in
definitions.

Also modifies the parser to accept IR in that form for obvious reasons.

Peter Collingbourne 72391ab4f1 IR: Teach GlobalIndirectSymbol::getBaseObject() to handle more kinds of expressions.
For aliases, any expression that lowers at the MC level to global_object or
global_object+constant is valid at the object file level. getBaseObject()
should return a result if the aliasee ends up being of that form even if
the IR used to produce it is somewhat unconventional.

Note that this is different from what stripInBoundsOffsets() and that family
of functions is doing. Those functions are concerned about semantic properties
of IR, whereas here we only care about the lowering result.

Therefore reimplement getBaseObject() in a way that matches the lowering
result. This fixes a crash when producing a summary for aliases such as
that in the included test case.

Tim Northover b7141207a4 Reapply: IR: add optional type to 'byval' function parameters
When we switch to opaque pointer types we will need some way to describe
how many bytes a 'byval' parameter should occupy on the stack. This adds
a (for now) optional extra type parameter.

If present, the type must match the pointee type of the argument.

The original commit did not remap byval types when linking modules, which broke
LTO. This version fixes that.

Note to front-end maintainers: if this causes test failures, it's probably
because the "byval" attribute is printed after attributes without any parameter
after this change.

Igor Kudrin 1ff8b7bdf1 [IRMover] Improve diagnostic messages for conflicting metadata
This does the similar for error messages as rL344011 has done for warnings.

With llvm::lto::LTO, the error might appear when LTO::run() is executed.
In that case, the calling code cannot know which module causes the error
and, subsequently, cannot hint the user.

Fangrui Song f4dfd63c74 [IR] Disallow llvm.global_ctors and llvm.global_dtors of the 2-field form in textual format
The 3-field form was introduced by D3499 in 2014 and the legacy 2-field
form was planned to be removed in LLVM 4.0

For the textual format, this patch migrates the existing 2-field form to
use the 3-field form and deletes the compatibility code.
test/Verifier/global-ctors-2.ll checks we have a friendly error message.

For bitcode, lib/IR/AutoUpgrade UpgradeGlobalVariables will upgrade the
2-field form (add i8* null as the third field).

Scott Linder de6beb02a5 Implement -frecord-command-line (-frecord-gcc-switches)
Implement options in clang to enable recording the driver command-line
in an ELF section.

Implement a new special named metadata, llvm.commandline, to support
frontends embedding their command-line options in IR/ASM/ELF.

This differs from the GCC implementation in some key ways:

* In GCC there is only one command-line possible per compilation-unit,
  in LLVM it mirrors llvm.ident and multiple are allowed.
* In GCC individual options are separated by NULL bytes, in LLVM entire
  command-lines are separated by NULL bytes. The advantage of the GCC
  approach is to clearly delineate options in the face of embedded
  spaces. The advantage of the LLVM approach is to support merging
  multiple command-lines unambiguously, while handling embedded spaces
  with escaping.

Shiva Chen 2c864551df [DebugInfo] Add DILabel metadata and intrinsic llvm.dbg.label.
In order to set breakpoints on labels and list source code around
labels, we need collect debug information for labels, i.e., label
name, the function label belong, line number in the file, and the
address label located. In order to keep these information in LLVM
IR and to allow backend to generate debug information correctly.
We create a new kind of metadata for labels, DILabel. The format
of DILabel is

!DILabel(scope: !1, name: "foo", file: !2, line: 3)

We hope to keep debug information as much as possible even the
code is optimized. So, we create a new kind of intrinsic for label
metadata to avoid the metadata is eliminated with basic block.
The intrinsic will keep existing if we keep it from optimized out.
The format of the intrinsic is

llvm.dbg.label(metadata !1)

It has only one argument, that is the DILabel metadata. The
intrinsic will follow the label immediately. Backend could get the
label metadata through the intrinsic's parameter.

We also create DIBuilder API for labels to be used by Frontend.
Frontend could use createLabel() to allocate DILabel objects, and use
insertLabel() to insert llvm.dbg.label intrinsic in LLVM IR.

Scott Linder 16c7bdaf32 [DebugInfo] Support DWARF v5 source code embedding extension
In DWARF v5 the Line Number Program Header is extensible, allowing values with
new content types. In this extension a content type is added,
DW_LNCT_LLVM_source, which contains the embedded source code of the file.

Add new optional attribute for !DIFile IR metadata called source which contains
source text. Use this to output the source to the DWARF line table of code
objects. Analogously extend METADATA_FILE in Bitcode and .file directive in ASM
to support optional source.

Teach llvm-dwarfdump and llvm-objdump about the new values. Update the output
format of llvm-dwarfdump to make room for the new attribute on file_names
entries, and support embedded sources for the -source option in llvm-objdump.

Paul Robinson 0a22709f06 [DWARF] Regularize dumping strings from line tables.
The major visible difference here is that in line-table dumps,
directory and file names are wrapped in double-quotes; previously,
directory names got single quotes and file names were not quoted at
all.

The improvement in this patch is that when a DWARF v5 line table
header has indirect strings, in a verbose dump these will all have
their section[offset] printed as well as the name itself.  This
matches the format used for dumping strings in the .debug_info
section.

Daniel Neilson 1e68724d24 Remove alignment argument from memcpy/memmove/memset in favour of alignment attributes (Step 1)
Summary:
 This is a resurrection of work first proposed and discussed in Aug 2015:

 The @llvm.memcpy/memmove/memset intrinsics currently have an explicit argument
which is required to be a constant integer. It represents the alignment of the
dest (and source), and so must be the minimum of the actual alignment of the
two.

 This change is the first in a series that allows source and dest to each
have their own alignments by using the alignment attribute on their arguments.

 In this change we:
1) Remove the alignment argument.
2) Add alignment attributes to the source & dest arguments. We, temporarily,
   require that the alignments for source & dest be equal.

 For example, code which used to read:
  call void @llvm.memcpy.p0i8.p0i8.i32(i8* %dest, i8* %src, i32 100, i32 4, i1 false)
will now read

 Downstream users may have to update their lit tests that check for
@llvm.memcpy/memmove/memset call/declaration patterns. The following extended sed script
may help with updating the majority of your tests, but it does not catch all possible
patterns so some manual checking and updating will be required.

Step 2) Expand the IRBuilder API to allow creation of memcpy/memmove with differing
   source and dest alignments.
Step 3) Update Clang to use the new IRBuilder API.
Step 4) Update Polly to use the new IRBuilder API.
Step 5) Update LLVM passes that create memcpy/memmove calls to use the new IRBuilder API,
        and those that use use MemIntrinsicInst::[get|set]Alignment() to use
        getDestAlignment() and getSourceAlignment() instead.
Step 6) Remove the single-alignment IRBuilder API for memcpy/memmove, and the

Rafael Espindola 9fbc040599 Make GlobalValues with non-default visibilility dso_local.
This is similar to r322317, but for visibility. It is not as neat
because we have to special case extern_weak.

The idea is the same as the previous change, make the transition to
explicit dso_local easier for the frontends. With this they only have
to add dso_local to symbols where we need some external information to
decide if it is dso_local (like it being part of an ELF executable).

Rafael Espindola e4b0231c63 Make internal/private GVs implicitly dso_local.
While updating clang tests for having clang set dso_local I noticed
that:

- There are *a lot* of tests to update.
- Many of the updates are redundant.

They are redundant because a GV is "obviously dso_local". This patch
starts formalizing that a bit by requiring that internal and private
GVs be dso_local too. Since they all are, we don't have to print
dso_local to the textual representation, making it a bit more compact
and easier to read.

Adrian Prantl 5a82f0a470 Verifier: Ignore CUs pulled in by ODR-uniqued types.
When more than one Module is imported into the same context, such as during
an LTO build before linking the modules, ODR type uniquing may cause types
to point to a different CU. This check does not make sense in this case.

This fixes the error reported in PR34944.

for DW_AT_specification DIEs. This is a rather naive approach and only a
start. We should have pretty printers for different languages.

Adrian Prantl 7bc1b28291 llvm-dwarfdump: Replace -debug-dump=sect option with individual options.
As discussed on llvm-dev in
http://lists.llvm.org/pipermail/llvm-dev/2017-September/117301.html
this changes the command line interface of llvm-dwarfdump to match the
one used by the dwarfdump utility shipping on macOS. In addition to
being shorter to type this format also has the advantage of allowing
more than one section to be specified at the same time.

In a nutshell, with this change

  $ llvm-dwarfdump --debug-dump=info
  $ llvm-dwarfdump --debug-dump=apple-objc

becomes

  $ dwarfdump --debug-info --apple-objc

Adrian Prantl 05782218ab Canonicalize the representation of empty an expression in DIGlobalVariableExpression
This change simplifies code that has to deal with
DIGlobalVariableExpression and mirrors how we treat DIExpressions in
debug info intrinsics. Before this change there were two ways of
representing empty expressions on globals, a nullptr and an empty
!DIExpression().

If someone needs to upgrade out-of-tree testcases:
  perl -pi -e 's/(!DIGlobalVariableExpression\(var: ![0-9]*)\)/\1, expr: !DIExpression())/g' <MYTEST.ll>
will catch 95%.
