Nick Lewycky f8e046b148 It's possible that an all-zero GEP may be used as the argument to lifetime
intrinsics. In fact, we'll optimize a bitcast to that when possible. Detect it
when looking for the lifetime intrinsics.

No test case, noticed by inspection.

Jakob Stoklund Olesen fb03a92c33 Be less aggressive about hinting in RAFast.
In particular, don't spill dirty registers only to satisfy a hint. It is
not worth it.

The attached test case provides an example where the fast allocator
would spill a register when other registers are available.

Rafael Espindola defd4b0875 AnalyzeBranch doesn't change which successors a bb has, just the order
we try to branch to them.

Before we were creating successor lists with duplicated entries. Fixing that
found a bug in isBlockOnlyReachableByFallthrough that would causes it to
return the wrong answer for

Charles Davis 7ed40cbded Put FrameSetup flag on x86 instructions that set up the call frame. No
functionality change.

Later on, we'll use the flag to emit SEH pseudo-ops that describe how the

Dan Gohman cc59548793 Initialize BasicAA's AliasCache to set it to use fewer buckets by
default, since it usually has very few elements. This speeds up
alias queries in many cases, because AliasCache.clear() doesn't
have to visit as many buckets.

Cameron Zwarich 361548d4b4 A CCState was being created without setting whether it is in the Call or Prologue state,
causing an assertion failure downstream. This fixes <rdar://problem/9562908>.

This really seems like it should always be set at CCState creation time, so mistakes like
this can never happen. I'll take a look at doing that.

John McCall fc1ca36866 SplitCriticalEdge can sometimes split the edge from an invoke to a landing
pad, separating the exception and selector calls from the new lpad.  Teaching
it not to do that, or to properly adjust the CFG afterwards, is out of
scope because it would require the other edges to the landing pad to be split
as well (effectively).  Instead, just recover from the most likely cases
during inlining.  The best long-term solution is to change the exception
representation and commit to either requiring or not requiring the more
complex edge-splitting logic;  this is just a shorter-term hack.

Jakob Stoklund Olesen 5750ca7089 Remove custom allocation order boilerplate that is no longer needed.
The register allocators automatically filter out reserved registers and
place the callee saved registers last in the allocation order, so custom
methods are no longer necessary just for that.

Some targets still use custom allocation orders:

ARM/Thumb: The high registers are removed from GPR in thumb mode. The
NEON allocation orders prefer to use non-VFP2 registers first.

X86: The GR8 classes omit AH-DH in x86-64 mode to avoid REX trouble.

SystemZ: Some of the allocation orders are omitting R12 aliases without
explanation. I don't understand this target well enough to fix that. It
looks like all the boilerplate could be removed by reserving the right
registers.

Cameron Zwarich c3b1cc9aca Fix an assymmetry between ConvertScalar_ExtractValue and ConvertScalar_InsertValue. The
former was using the size of the entire alloca, whereas the latter was correctly using
the allocated size of the immediate type being converted (which may differ from the size
of the alloca). This fixes PR10082.

Akira Hatanaka 08b7a779ef Add test case for C++ exception handling and fix the following mistakes in MipsFrameLowering::emitPrologue:
- cfi directives are not inserted at the right location or in the right order.
- The source MachineLocation for the cfi directive that changes the cfa register
  to $fp should be MachineLocation::VirtualFP.
- A PROLOG_LABEL that marks the beginning of cfi_offset directives for
  callee-saved register is emitted even when no callee-saved registers are
  saved.
- When a callee-saved double precision register is saved, two cfi_offset
  directives, one for each of the paired single precision registers, should be
  emitted.

Jakob Stoklund Olesen df476270eb Simplify local live range splitting's safeguard to fix PR10070.
When local live range splitting creates a live range with the same
number of instructions as the old range, mark it as RS_Local. When such
a range is seen again, require that it be split in a way that reduces
the number of instructions. That guarantees we are making progress while
still being able to perform 3 -> 2+3 splits as required by PR10070.

This also means that the PrevSlot map is no longer needed. This was also
used to estimate new spill weights, but that is no longer necessary
after slotIndexes::insertMachineInstrInMaps() got the extra Late
insertion argument.

Jakob Stoklund Olesen 0cde8eb9e2 Get allocation orders from RegisterClassInfo when possible.
Only target-dependent hints require callbacks. The RCI allocation order
has CSR aliases last according to their order of appearance in the
getCalleeSavedRegs list. This can depend on the calling convention.

This way, AllocationOrder::next doesn't have to check for reserved
registers, and CSRs are always allocated last, even with weird calling
conventions.

Jakob Stoklund Olesen b7657d0225 Don't try to be clever, just preserve the target's allocation order.
The order of registers returned by getCalleeSavedRegs is used to lay out
the fixed stack slots for CSRs. Some targets like their CSRs used from
one end, and some targets want them used from the other end.

When computing an allocation order, simply preserve the relative
ordering of CSRs that the target specifies in its allocation order.
Reordering CSRs would break some targets, ARM in particular.

We still place volatiles before the CSRs, providing slightly better
results with different calling conventions.

Rafael Espindola 940a0ee5ca Produce an undefined reference to _GLOBAL_OFFSET_TABLE_ if we have a
VK_GOTOFF reloc. This matches as' behavior, but it is not clear why the linker
might need this, so I added a FIXME.

I could test this by duplicating test/MC/ELF/got.s, but it doesn't look
worthwhile.

Bill Wendling 4f163dfed1 If the block that we're threading through is jumped to by an indirect branch,
then we don't want to set the destination in the indirect branch to the
destination. This is because the indirect branch needs its destinations to have
had their block addresses taken. This isn't so of the new critical edge that's
split during this process. If it turns out that the destination block has only
one predecessor, and that being a BB with an indirect branch, then it won't be
marked as 'used' and may be removed.

Andrew Trick 49371f3f33 New BranchProbabilityInfo analysis. Patch by Jakub Staszak!
BranchProbabilityInfo provides an interface for IR passes to query the
likelihood that control follows a CFG edge. This patch provides an
initial implementation of static branch predication that will populate
BranchProbabilityInfo for branches with no external profile
information using very simple heuristics. It currently isn't hooked up
to any external profile data, so static prediction does all the work.

Dan Gohman fb02cec44e Fix BasicAA's recursion detection so that it doesn't pessimize
queries in the case of a DAG, where a query reaches a node
visited earlier, but it's not on a cycle. This avoids
MayAlias results in cases where BasicAA is expected to
return MustAlias or PartialAlias in order to protect TBAA.

Jakob Stoklund Olesen e1c6d3acb4 Blackfin always uses a reserved call frame.
Materializing the stack pointer update before a call requires a scratch
register that may not be available.

Roman Divacky a4a59aebd9 Fix wrong usages of CTR/MCTR where CTR8/MCTR8 was meant.
- Check for MTCTR8 in addition to MTCTR when looking up a hazard.

- When lowering an indirect call use CTR8 when targeting 64bit.

- Introduce BCTR8 that uses CTR8 and use it on 64bit when expanding ISD::BRIND.

The last change fixes PR8487. With those changes, we are able to compile a
running "ls" and "sh" on FreeBSD/PowerPC64.

Jakob Stoklund Olesen 4b0bb8396a Avoid calling TRI->getAllocatableSet in RAFast.
When compiling a program with lots of small functions like
483.xalancbmk, this makes RAFast 11% faster.

Add some comments to clarify the difference between unallocatable and
reserved registers. It's quite subtle.

The fast register allocator depends on EFLAGS' not being allocatable on
x86. That way it can completely avoid tracking liveness, and it won't
mind when there are multiple uses of a single def.

Jakob Stoklund Olesen 75703ca76f Make it possible to have unallocatable register classes.
Some register classes are only used for instruction operand constraints.
They should never be used for virtual registers. Previously, those
register classes were given an empty allocation order, but now you can
say 'let isAllocatable=0' in the register class definition.

TableGen calculates if a register is part of any allocatable register
class, and makes that information available in TargetRegisterDesc::inAllocatableClass.

The goal here is to eliminate use cases for overriding allocation_order_*
methods.

Devang Patel e5feef0fe1 During post RA scheduling, do not try to chase reg defs. to preserve DBG_VALUEs. This approach has several downsides, for example, it does not work when dbg value is a constant integer, it does not work if reg is defined more than once, it places end of debug value range markers in the wrong place. It even causes misleading incorrect debug info when duplicate DBG_VALUE instructions point to same reg def.
Instead, use simpler approach and let DBG_VALUE follow its predecessor instruction. After live debug value analysis pass, all DBG_VALUE instruction are placed at the right place. Thanks Jakob for the hint!

Jim Grosbach dac0238ed2 .cfi directive register parsing flexibility.
Parsing a register name/number for .cfi directives can't assume that a
register name starts with a '%' token. Be more flexible and check for a
register number instead. Still unlikely to be perfect, but it allows us
to parse both plain identifiers as register names and integers as register
numbers, which is what we're wanting to support at this point.

Jakob Stoklund Olesen c58894bc36 Add a RegisterClassInfo class that lazily caches information about
register classes.

It provides information for each register class that cannot be
determined statically, like:

- The number of allocatable registers in a class after filtering out the
  reserved and invalid registers.

- The preferred allocation order with registers that overlap callee-saved
  registers last.

- The last callee-saved register that overlaps a given physical register.

This information usually doesn't change between functions, so it is
reused for compiling multiple functions when possible.  The many
possible combinations of reserved and callee saves registers makes it
unfeasible to compute this information statically in TableGen.

Use RegisterClassInfo to count available registers in various heuristics
in SimpleRegisterCoalescing, making the pass run 4% faster.

Eli Friedman b576b1675c When marking a block as being unanalyzable, use "Clobber" on the terminator instead of the first instruction in the block. This is a bit of a hack; "Clobber" isn't really the right marking in the first place. memdep doesn't really have any way of properly expressing "unanalyzable" at the moment. Using it on the terminator is much less ambiguous than using it on an arbitrary instruction, though.
In the given testcase, the "Clobber" was pointing to a load, and GVN was incorrectly assuming that meant that the "Clobber" load overlapped the load being analyzed (when they are actually unrelated).

The included testcase tests both this commit and r132434.

Eli Friedman 4b6eeb9ca2 In MemoryDependenceAnalysis::getNonLocalPointerDepFromBB, if a given block is is deemed unanalyzable (and we execute one of the "goto PredTranslationFailure" statements), make sure we don't put information about the predecessors of that block into the returned data structures; this can lead to, among other things, extraneous results (which will confuse passes using memdep). Fixes an assert in GVN compiling ruby. Part of rdar://problem/9521954 .

Andrew Trick 18c9b37a42 Add an issue width check to the postRA scheduler. Patch by Max Kazakov!
For targets with no itinerary (x86) it is a nop by default. For
targets with issue width already expressed in the itinerary (ARM) it
bypasses a scoreboard check but otherwise does not affect the
schedule. It does make the code more consistent and complete and
allows new targets to specify their issue width in an arbitrary way.

Bill Wendling 48581a6454 The ARM stuff already calls the Resume function, not the Resume_or_Rethrow. It
turns out that it could cause an infinite loop in some situations. If this code
is triggered and it converts a cleanup into a catchall, but that cleanup was in
already in a cleanup, then the _Unwind_SjLj_Resume could infinite loop. I.e.,
the code doesn't consume the exception object and passes it on to
_Unwind_SjLj_Resume. But _USjLjR expects it to be consumed (since it's landing
at a catchall instead of a cleanup). So it uses the values that are presently
there, which are the values that tell it to jump to the fake landing pad.

Jakob Stoklund Olesen 73e18b7aea Simplify the eviction policy by making the failsafe explicit.
When assigned ranges are evicted, they are put in the RS_Evicted stage and are
not allowed to evict anything else. That prevents looping automatically.

When evicting ranges just to get a cheaper register, use only spill weights to
find the possible candidates. Avoid breaking hints for this purpose, it is not
worth it.

Start implementing more complex eviction heuristics, guarded by the temporary
-complex-eviction flag. The initial version permits a heavier range to be
evicted if it doesn't have any uses where the evicting range is live. This makes
it a good candidate for live ranfge splitting.

Jakob Stoklund Olesen dd6fcc4e46 Fix PR10046 by updating LiveVariables kill info when splitting live ranges.
This only affects targets like Mips where branch instructions may kill virtual
registers. Most other targets branch on flag values, so virtual registers are
not involved.

The problem is that MachineBasicBlock::updateTerminator deletes branches and
inserts new ones while LiveVariables keeps a list of pointers to instructions
that kill virtual registers. That list wasn't properly updated in
MBB::SplitCriticalEdge.

Charles Davis b025724b46 When generating against the Win64 EH scheme, set the handler to the GCC-specific
handler.

At this moment, only GCC-style exceptions are supported. Other kinds
of exceptions, including "traditional" SEH and Microsoft Visual C++ exceptions,
need more work--and an compiler exception model that isn't specific to
GCC-style exceptions!

In particular, I imagine that it would be possible to mix "traditional" SEH
with GCC-style EH or Microsoft C++ EH. Currently LLVM has no way (beyond some
target-specific defaults and whole-module compiler switches) of knowing which
scheme to use when.

Nadav Rotem d86c1c41fb Refactor the type legalizer. Switch TargetLowering to a new enum - LegalizeTypeAction.
This patch does not change the behavior of the type legalizer. The codegen

John McCall 046c47e970 Implement and document the llvm.eh.resume intrinsic, which is
transformed by the inliner into a branch to the enclosing landing pad
(when inlined through an invoke).  If not so optimized, it is lowered
DWARF EH preparation into a call to _Unwind_Resume (or _Unwind_SjLj_Resume
as appropriate).  Its chief advantage is that it takes both the
exception value and the selector value as arguments, meaning that there
is zero effort in recovering these;  however, the frontend is required
to pass these down, which is not actually particularly difficult.

Also document the behavior of landing pads a bit better, and make it
clearer that it's okay that personality functions don't always land at
landing pads.  This is just a fact of life.  Don't write optimizations that
rely on pushing things over an unwind edge.

Jakob Stoklund Olesen fd3f71ef3a Create two BlockInfo entries when a live range is discontinuous through a block.
Delete the Kill and Def markers in BlockInfo. They are no longer
necessary when BlockInfo describes a continuous live range.

This only affects the relatively rare kind of basic block where a live
range looks like this:

Now live range splitting can pretend that it is looking at two blocks:

 |---x
         o---|

This allows the code to be simplified a bit.

Jakob Stoklund Olesen 5cc91b2611 Add SplitAnalysis::getNumLiveBlocks().
It is important that this function returns the same number of live blocks as
countLiveBlocks(CurLI) because live range splitting uses the number of live
blocks to ensure it is making progress.

This is in preparation of supporting duplicate UseBlock entries for basic blocks
that have a virtual register live-in and live-out, but not live-though.

John McCall bd04b74bb2 Fix the inliner to maintain the current de facto invoke semantics:
- the selector for the landing pad must provide all available information
    about the handlers, filters, and cleanups within that landing pad
  - calls to _Unwind_Resume must be converted to branches to the enclosing
    lpad so as to avoid re-entering the unwinder when the lpad claimed it
    was going to handle the exception in some way
This is quite specific to libUnwind-based unwinding.  In an effort to not
interfere too badly with other unwinders, and with existing hacks in frontends,
this only triggers on _Unwind_Resume (not _Unwind_Resume_or_Rethrow) and does
nothing with selectors if it cannot find a selector call for either lpad.

Charles Davis 006e1c39d0 Test .seh_startchained and .seh_endchained parsing.
Rework how the MCWin64EHUnwindInfo instances are stored. Fix issues with
chained unwind areas exposed by the test that were related to this.

The ChainedParent field had the wrong address, because when the chained unwind
info was added, the addresses shifted around. Now we store the pointers to the
structures, which are now allocated from the MC heap.

Jakob Stoklund Olesen 25d5745cc5 Add a RAGreedy::canEvict function.
This doesn't change functionality (much), but it allows for a more fine-grained
eviction policy. The current policy only compares spill weights, and that is not
always the best thing to do.  Spill weights are designed to serve linear scan,
and they don't consider live range splitting.

Add a mechanism so canEvict() can request that a live range be evicted and
split/spilled. This is to avoid infinite eviction loops.

Eli Friedman c70355195c Rewrite fast-isel integer cast handling to handle more cases, and to be simpler and more consistent.
The practical effects here are that x86-64 fast-isel can now handle trunc from i8 to i1, and ARM fast-isel can handle many more constructs involving integers narrower than 32 bits (including loads, stores, and many integer casts).

Evan Cheng 1b55f56b01 Fix LoopUnswitch bug. RewriteLoopBodyWithConditionConstant can delete a dead
case of a switch instruction. Back off this optimization when this would
eliminate all of the predecessors to the latch.

Sorry, I am unable to reduce a reasonably sized test case.

Dan Gohman 0573b55c2b Make DecomposeGEPExpression check SimplifyInstruction only
after checking for a GEP, so that it matches what GetUnderlyingObject
does. This fixes an obscure bug turned up by bugpoint in the testcase
for PR9931.

Akira Hatanaka cb4a1a8d3f Simplify offset calculation of stack frame objects for $gp restore location and
variable arguments in LowerCall and LowerFormalArguments. This should also fix
the bug in which handling of variable arguments is incorrect when the front-end
optimizes away unused fixed arguments.

Akira Hatanaka f9e5750fc8 Change StackDirection from StackGrowsUp to StackGrowsDown.
The following improvements are accomplished as a result of applying this patch:
- Fixed frame objects' offsets (relative to either the virtual frame pointer or
  the stack pointer) are set before instruction selection is completed. There is
  no need to wait until Prologue/Epilogue Insertion is run to set them.
- Calculation of final offsets of fixed frame objects is straightforward. It is
  no longer necessary to assign negative offsets to fixed objects for incoming
  arguments in order to distinguish them from the others.
- Since a fixed object has its relative offset set during instruction
  selection, there is no need to conservatively set its alignment to 4.
- It is no longer necessary to reorder non-fixed frame objects in 
  MipsFrameLowering::adjustMipsStackFrame.

Charles Davis d9eafdcfd5 Implement .seh_stackalloc and .seh_pushframe parsing.
I haven't implemented any of the ones that take registers yet. The problem is
that for x86-64 the streamer methods expect a native x86 register number (note:
%r8-%r15 want 8-15 instead of 0-7; same for %xmm8-%xmm15). I haven't figured
out exactly how I want to do that yet.

Chris Lattner 83791ced7b Teach valuetracking that byval arguments with a specified alignment are
aligned.

Teach memcpyopt to not give up all hope when confonted with an underaligned
memcpy feeding an overaligned byval.  If the *source* of the memcpy can be
determined to be adequeately aligned, or if it can be forced to be, we can
eliminate the memcpy.

This addresses PR9794.  We now compile the example into:

define i32 @f(%struct.p* nocapture byval align 8 %q) nounwind ssp {
entry:
  %call = call i32 @g(%struct.p* byval align 8 %q) nounwind
  ret i32 %call
}

in both x86-64 and x86-32 mode.  We still don't get a tailcall though,
