Raphael Isemann 5c5408ce2c [lldb] Let LLDB depend on intrinsics_gen to fix non-deterministic module build failures
Summary:
When building with modules we currently fail randomly to build LLDB's modules and get error messages like below:

The reason for this is that our source files can include Clang headers which in turn include files like Attributes.inc which
are generated by intrinsics_gen. However, it seems Clang can't express this dependency in its CMake code, so intrinsics_gen
is actually not guaranteed to be built before we start parsing LLDB source files and Clang headers. Clang worked around this
by letting all libraries depend on intrinsics_gen, which at least lets their builds pass.

As I haven't figured out how to solve these dependencies properly and I want to get the LLDB+Modules build green,
I suggest we copy Clang's hack until we figure out how to get Clang's dependencies right.

Haibo Huang 79d117f27e [CMake] Move project() call to main CMake file
Summary:
The main CMake file don't have a project() call. In this case, cmake will run a dummy project(Project ) at the very beginning. Even before cmake_minimum_required. And a series of compiler detections will be triggered.

This is problematic if we depends on some policy to be set. E.g. CMP0056. try_compile will fail before we have a chance to do anything.

Jonas Devlieghere 971f9ca612 Let tablegen generate property definitions
Property definitions are currently defined in a PropertyDefinition array
and have a corresponding enum to index in this array. Unfortunately this
is quite error prone. Indeed, just today we found an incorrect merge
where a discrepancy between the order of the enum values and their
definition caused the test suite to fail spectacularly.

Tablegen can streamline the process of generating the property
definition table while at the same time guaranteeing that the enums stay
in sync. That's exactly what this patch does. It adds a new tablegen
file for the properties, building on top of the infrastructure that
Raphael added recently for the command options. It also introduces two
new tablegen backends: one for the property definitions and one for
their corresponding enums.

It might be worth mentioning that I generated most of the tablegen
definitions from the existing property definitions, by adding a dump
method to the struct. This seems both more efficient and less error
prone that copying everything over by hand. Only Enum properties needed
manual fixup for the EnumValues and DefaultEnumValue fields.

Stefan Granitz 0c4948455d [CMake] Always build debugserver on Darwin and allow tests to use the system's one
Summary:
We can always build debugserver, but we can't always sign it to be useable for testing. `LLDB_USE_SYSTEM_DEBUGSERVER` should only tell whether or not the system debugserver should be used for testing.
The old behavior complicated the logic around debugserver a lot. The new logic sorts out most of it.

Please note that this patch is in early stage and needs some more testing. It should not affect platfroms other than Darwin. It builds on Davide's approach to validate the code-signing identity at configuration time.

Nathan Lanza 0c6ad3d5d1 [cmake] Add NATIVE build for cross compiling standalone builds
TableGen is a host tool and requires a native variant for every build.
While building as a part of llvm this is trivial and llvm handles it.
However, building standalone means that lldb has to handle this itself.
Add a NATIVE build variant to enable this.

Jonas Devlieghere 7f24757b8e [CMake] Move standalone check so we don't have to reconfigure LLDB
By moving the standalone check into the main CMake file, the whole file
is ignored in a regular (non-standalone) build. This means that you can
make changes to LLDBStandalone.cmake without having to reconfigure a
build in a different directory. This matters when you share one source
repository with different build directories (e.g. release-assert, debug,
standalone).

Raphael Isemann 6f4fb4e7ad [lldb] Let table gen create command option initializers.
Summary:
We currently have man large arrays containing initializers for our command options.
These tables are tricky maintain as we don't have any good place to check them for consistency and
it's also hard to read (`nullptr, {}, 0` is not very descriptive).

This patch fixes this by letting table gen generate those tables. This way we can have a more readable
syntax for this (especially for all the default arguments) and we can let TableCheck check them
for consistency (e.g. an option with an optional argument can't have `eArgTypeNone`, naming of flags', etc.).

Also refactoring the related data structures can now be done without changing the hundred of option initializers.

For example, this line:

{LLDB_OPT_SET_ALL, false, "hide-aliases",         'a', OptionParser::eNoArgument, nullptr, {}, 0, eArgTypeNone, "Hide aliases in the command list."},
```
becomes this:
```
  def hide_aliases : Option<"hide-aliases", "a">, Desc<"Hide aliases in the command list.">;
```

For now I just moved a few initializers to the new format to demonstrate the change. I'll slowly migrate the other
option initializers tables  in separate patches.

Stefan Granitz 5dc9036746 [CMake] LLDB.framework tools handling
Summary:
Modify the way LLDB.framework tools are collected. This allows for better fine-tuning of the install behavior downstream. Each target calls `lldb_add_to_framework()` individually. When entering the function, the target exists and we can tweak its very own post-build and install steps. This was not possible with the old `LLDB_FRAMEWORK_TOOLS` approach.

No function change otherwise.
This is a reduced follow-up from the proposal in D61952.

Jonas Devlieghere 8c3513ffc4 [Docs] Generate the python reference without building all of LLDB
As discussed on the mailing list, we should be able to generate the
Python reference without building all of LLDB. To make that possible I
create a dummy python package, which is then parsed by epydoc. The
latter will complain that it couldn't import lldb, but that doesn't
matter as far as generation of the docs is concerned.

Michal Gorny 9c3824aad7 [lldb] [lit] Add feature flags for native CPU features
Add a new lit-cpuid tool that detects CPU features used by some of
the tests, and use it to populate available_features in lit.  For now,
this means that the test for MM/XMM register read will be run only
when the host CPU support SSE instruction set.  However, this is going
to make it possible to introduce additional tests relying on AVX.

Jorge Gorbe Moya d7aba76783 Add lldb-vscode as a dependency of lldb tests.
Summary:
In the current state, 'ninja check-lldb' runs the lldb-vscode tests, but it
won't rebuild lldb-vscode if any of its sources has changed. This is very
confusing when you fix something and the tests keep failing, or vice versa.

Pavel Labath 5d4d168c3c [cmake] Move LLDB_DISABLE_LIBEDIT handling code into a central place
This was previously scattered between the main CMakeLists.txt file and
LLDBGenerateConfig.cmake and LLDBConfig.cmake. This caused the some of
the code to be executed in incorrect order. Specifically, the check for
el_winsertstr was done before libedit_LIBRARIES was computed, and so it
always failed on the first run.

Moving it the two checks to a central place makes sure this doesn't
happen again and improves the overall readability.

Pavel Labath 105f949149 Set cmake policy CMP0075 to NEW
Summary:
The policy is about cmake_include_files ignoring
CMAKE_REQUIRED_LIBRARIES in the OLD behavior. Llvm already sets this
policy to NEW, but that is overridden by our cmake_minimum_required
command.

This makes our cmake policy setup consistent with the llvm build files
and avoids a warning when using newer versions of cmake.

Jonas Devlieghere 9d0c5f9953 Define _ENABLE_EXTENDED_ALIGNED_STORAGE on Windows.
Apparently there are multiple places where MSVC complains about
instantiations with extended aligment. I think it's better to define
`_ENABLE_EXTENDED_ALIGNED_STORAGE` as suggested by the error message.

I don't have access to a Windows machine so this is all speculative.

Stefan Granitz 79f41967dc [CMake] In standalone builds, LLVM_BINARY_DIR should point to LLVM's binary directory
Summary: In standalone builds `LLVM_BINARY_DIR` was equal to `LLDB_BINARY_DIR` so far. This is counterintuitive and invalidated the values of `LLDB_DEFAULT_TEST_DSYMUTIL/FILECHECK/COMPILER` etc.

Stefan Granitz f9ef9e0c19 [CMake] Python bindings generation polishing
Summary:
Simplify SWIG invocation and handling of generated files.

The `swig_wrapper` target can generate `LLDBWrapPython.cpp` and `lldb.py` in its own binary directory, so we can get rid of a few global variables and their logic. We can use the swig_wrapper's BINARY_DIR target property to refer to it and liblldb's LIBRARY_OUTPUT_DIRECTORY to refer to the framework/shared object output directory.

Summary:
Add features to LLDB CMake builds that have so far only been available in Xcode. Clean up a few inconveniences and prepare further improvements.

Options:
* `LLDB_FRAMEWORK_BUILD_DIR` determines target directory (in build-tree)
* `LLDB_FRAMEWORK_INSTALL_DIR` **only** determines target directory in install-tree
* `LLVM_EXTERNALIZE_DEBUGINFO` allows externalized debug info (dSYM on Darwin, emitted to `bin`)
* `LLDB_FRAMEWORK_TOOLS` determines which executables will be copied to the framework's Resources (dropped symlinking, removed INCLUDE_IN_SUITE, removed dummy targets)

Other changes:
* clean up `add_lldb_executable()`
* include `LLDBFramework.cmake` from `source/API/CMakeLists.txt`
* use `*.plist.in` files, which are typical for CMake and independent from Xcode
* add clang headers to the framework bundle

Stefan Granitz 90aeb4c8d9 [CMake] Streamline code signing for debugserver #2
Summary:
Major fixes after D54476 (use Diff1 as base for comparison to see only recent changes):
* In standalone builds target directory for debugserver must be LLDB's bin, not LLVM's bin
* Default identity for code signing must not force-override LLVM_CODESIGNING_IDENTITY globally

We have a lot of cases, make them explicit:

* ID used for code signing (debugserver and in tests):
** `LLDB_CODESIGN_IDENTITY` if set explicitly, or otherwise
** `LLVM_CODESIGNING_IDENTITY` if set explicitly, or otherwise
** `lldb_codesign` as the default

* On Darwin we have a debugserver target that:

* On other systems, the debugserver target is not defined, which is equivalent to **[3A]**

Common configurations on Darwin:
* **[1A]** `cmake -GNinja ../llvm` builds debugserver from source and signs with `lldb_codesign`, no code signing for other binaries (prints status: //lldb debugserver: /path/to/bin/debugserver//)
* **[1A]** `cmake -GNinja -DLLVM_CODESIGNING_IDENTITY=- -DLLDB_CODESIGN_IDENTITY=lldb_codesign ../llvm` builds debugserver from source and signs with `lldb_codesign`, ad-hoc code signing for other binaries (prints status: //lldb debugserver: /path/to/bin/debugserver//)
* **[2A]** `cmake -GNinja -DLLVM_CODESIGNING_IDENTITY=- -DLLDB_USE_SYSTEM_DEBUGSERVER=ON ../llvm` copies debugserver from system, ad-hoc code signing for other binaries (prints status: //Copy system debugserver from: /path/to/system/debugserver//)

Jonas Devlieghere deb54f1b24 [cmake] Make libcxx(abi) a dependency when building in-tree clang for macOS
As discussed on IRC this morning, when building an in-tree clang for
testing we have to have libcxx and libcxxabi checked out. This is a
common pitfall. Not only are the resulting failures non-obvious, they
only manifest when running the test suite, *after* building lldb and
clang. By making them a hard dependency (on macOS) we fail earlier with
a more useful error message.

Pass through ENTITLEMENTS from add_lldb_executable to add_llvm_executable.
Handle reconfigurations correctly.

We have a lot of cases, make them explicit:

(1) build and sign debugserver, if all conditions apply:
* LLDB_NO_DEBUGSERVER=OFF (default)
* On Darwin: LLDB_USE_SYSTEM_DEBUGSERVER=OFF (default)
* On Darwin: LLVM_CODESIGNING_IDENTITY == lldb_codesign

(2) use system debugserver, if on Darwin and any of:
* LLDB_USE_SYSTEM_DEBUGSERVER=ON and found on system (explicit case)
* LLVM_CODESIGNING_IDENTITY != lldb_codesign and found on system (fallback case)

(3) debugserver will not be available, in case of:
* LLDB_NO_DEBUGSERVER=ON
* On Darwin: LLVM_CODESIGNING_IDENTITY != lldb_codesign and not found on system

(4) error state, in case of:
* LLDB_USE_SYSTEM_DEBUGSERVER=ON and not found on system
* LLDB_USE_SYSTEM_DEBUGSERVER=ON and LLDB_NO_DEBUGSERVER=ON

Summary:
This follows the approach in Clang. If no overrides are given, LLDB_VERSION_* is inferred from LLVM_VERSION_*. This mimics the current behaviour (PACKAGE_VERSION itself is generated from LLVM_VERSION_*).
For in-tree builds LLVM_VERSION_* will be defined at this point already. For standalone builds, LLDBConfig.cmake is included after LLDBStandalone.cmake which includes LLVMConfig.cmake.

Vedant Kumar 9b13bea61a Allow use of self.filecheck in LLDB tests (c.f self.expect)
Add a "filecheck" method to the LLDB test base. This allows test authors
to pattern match command output using FileCheck, making it possible to
write stricter tests than what `self.expect` allows.

Alex Langford 36706fd977 Introduce install-lldb-framework target
Summary:
Previously, I thought that install-liblldb would fail because CMake had
a bug related to installing frameworks. In actuality, I misunderstood the
semantics of `add_custom_target`: the DEPENDS option refers to specific files,
not targets. Therefore `install-liblldb` should rely on the actual liblldb
getting generated rather than the target.

This means that the previous patch I committed (to stop relying on CMake's
framework support) is no longer needed and has been reverted. Using CMake's
framework support greatly simplifies the implementation.

`install-lldb-framework` (and the stripped variant) is as simple as
depending on `install-liblldb` because CMake knows that liblldb was built as a
framework and will install the whole framework for you. The stripped variant
will depend on the stripped variants of individual tools only to ensure they
actually are stripped as well.

Alex Langford 97ba3b64dd Invert dependency between lldb-framework and lldb-suite
Summary:
Currently, if you build lldb-framework the entire framework doesn't
actually build. In order to build the entire framework, you need to actually
build lldb-suite. This abstraction doesn't feel quite right because
lldb-framework truly does depend on lldb-suite (liblldb + related tools).

In this change I want to invert their dependency. This will mean that lldb and
finish_swig will depend on lldb-framework in a framework build, and lldb-suite
otherwise. Instead of adding conditional logic everywhere to handle this, I
introduce LLDB_SUITE_TARGET to handle it.

Apparently there's a difference between using LLVM_RUNTIME_OUTPUT_INTDIR
and LLVM_BINARY_DIR. The former will point to the current binary
directory (i.e. that where lldb is built) while the former will always
point to LLVM's. This was causing trouble for the swift build but should
be a transparent for upstream lldb.

Pavel Labath 8779968805 Attempt to fix windows build broken by r334968
The issue was that there was no dependency from lldb-suite target to liblldb in
the no-framework scenario. This caused the finish-swig target to be executed
prematurely and fail (because it cannot copy liblldb to the python folder). On
other platforms this did not matter because there just creates a symlink.

The extra lldb-suite -> liblldb edge should fix this. Technically, I could add
this just to the !framework case as the framework target will take care of the
transitive dep, but it seemed more clear to make the dep unconditional.

1) Create an lldb-framework target that acts as the target that handles generating LLDB.framework. Previously, liblldb acted as the target for generating the framework in addition to generating the actual lldb library. This made the target feel overloaded.
2) Centralize framework generation as much as it makes sense to do so.
3) Create a target lldb-suite, which depends on every tool and library that makes liblldb fully functional. One result of having this target is it makes tracking dependencies much clearer.

Jonas Devlieghere 52721286b2 [CMake] Unify and relayer testing
This patch restructures part of LLDB's testing configuration:

1. I moved the test dependencies up the chain so every dotest dependency
   becomes a lit dependency as well. It wouldn't make sense for dotest to
   have other dependencies when it's being run by lit. Lit on the other
   hand can still specify extra dependencies.

2. I replaced as much generator expressions with variables as possible.
   This is consistent with the rest of LLVM and doesn't break generators
   that support multiple targets (MSVC, Xcode). This wasn't a problem
   before, but now we need to expand the dotest arguments in the lit
   configuration and there's only one test suite even with multiple
   targets.

3. I moved lldb-dotest into it's own directory under utils since there's
   no need anymore for it to located under `test/`.

Aaron Smith 07482d32e7 [lit] Update how clang and other binaries are found in per-configuration directories
Summary:
This is modeled after the clang and llvm lit tests.

Several properties have CMAKE_CFG_INTDIR as part of the path - this works correctly when the cmake generator only supports one configuration which is known at configuration time, but it does not work correctly when the cmake generator supports multiple configurations (for example, VS). 

For VS, CMAKE_CFG_INTDIR ends up set as $Configuration and then it is never updated correctly. Instead, the lit configuration can use a property that can be overwritten at run time. AddLLVM does that for several properties (such as LLVM_TOOLS_DIR). 

This change is also removing properties from the lit/CMakeLists.txt that are actually set during the call to configure_lit_site_cfg

Don Hinton d8a6b90e83 [cmake] Fix LLDB_CODESIGN_IDENTITY logic.
Summary:
Consolidate LLDB_CODESIGN_IDENTITY logic in one place and use
SKIP_DEBUGSERVER, which can be set independently, to control
codesigning targets.

Currently, running cmake the first time in a clean directory, without
passing -DLLDB_CODESIGN_IDENTITY='', fails.  However, subsequent runs
succeed.  That's because LLDB_CODESIGN_IDENTITY gets added to the
CACHE after the initial test.  To fix that, the default value must be
set before it's tested.

Here's the error produced on the first run:

CMake Error at tools/lldb/tools/debugserver/source/CMakeLists.txt:215 (add_custom_command):
  No TARGET 'debugserver' has been created in this directory.

Aaron Smith 35cdfe2d1d Add CMAKE_CFG_INTDIR as part of the include path for the default test compiler.
Summary:
This is a small change towards running the LLDB unit tests on Windows (still WIP).

Builds that use make do not point to specific configurations. However, builds with multiple configurations such as Visual Studio on Windows need the configuration (release/debug/etc) as part of the path so the binaries produced by clang are placed in the correct directory for the configuration.

Pavel Labath 7e17fc5e09 Default to using in-tree clang for building test executables
Summary:
Using the in-tree clang should be the default test configuration as that
is the one compiler that we can be sure everyone has (better
reproducibility of test results). Also, it should hopefully reduce the
impact of pr35040.

This also reduces the number of settings which control the compiler
used. LLDB_TEST_C_COMPILER is used for C files and
LLDB_TEST_CXX_COMPILER for C++ files. Both of the settings default to
the in-tree clang.

build to use that. I have also updated the in-tree toolchain file to do that

Luke Drummond c3d0165c49 Fix broken escaping of commands in the build
A combination of broken escaping in CMake and in the python swig
generation scripts meant that the swig generation step would fail
whenever there were spaces or special characters in parameters passed to
swig.

The fix for this in CMakeLists is to use the VERBATIM option on all
COMMAND-based custom builders relying on CMake to properly escape each
argument in the generated file.

Within the python swig scripts, the fix is to call subprocess.Popen with
a list of raw argument strings rather than ones that are incorrectly
manually escaped, then passed to a shell subprocess via
subprocess.Popen(' '.join(params)). This also prevents nasty things
happening such as accidental command-injection.

This allows us to have the swig / python executables in paths containing
special chars and spaces, (or on shared storage on Win32, e.g
\\some\path or C:\Program Files\swig\swig.exe).

Chris Bieneman d3199f5ed2 [CMake] Initial support for LLDB.framework
Summary:
This patch adds a CMake option LLDB_BUILD_FRAMEWORK, which builds libLLDB as a macOS framework instead of as a *nix shared library.

With this patch any LLDB executable that has the INCLUDE_IN_FRAMEWORK option set will be built into the Framework's resources directory, and a symlink to the exeuctable will be placed under the build directory's bin folder. Creating the symlinks allows users to run commands from the build directory without altering the workflow.

The framework generated by this patch passes the LLDB test suite, but has not been tested beyond that. It is not expected to be fully ready to ship, but it is a first step.

With this patch binaries that are placed inside the framework aren't being properly installed. Fixing that would increase the patch size significantly, so I'd like to do that in a follow-up.

This reverts commit r279296. Including LLDBDependencies breaks the
netbsd lldb bot because it exposes LLDB_USED_LIBS, which causes
lldb_link_common_libs to run to completion in unintended sites, which
results in a malformed call to target_link_libraries.

Vedant Kumar 181f924beb [lldb][cmake] Remove libclang as an lldbBase dependency (NFCI)
It's pulling in all kinds of things it doesn't need (e.g, clang-tidy!).

Eliminating this dependency removes 1056 dependencies from the
'CommandObjectFrame.cpp.o' target and 454 dependencies from the 'lldb'
target. On my machine, this shaves 7 minutes off of a clean build of
lldb.

version of this patch!

Building HEAD of LLDB fails in linking against DebugInfoPDB. It also prints the following warning:

Todd Fiala 7d1da7e91c Switched cmake build from using buildSwigWrapperClases.py to the cleaned up version.
This change does not introduce static bindings.  It is simply using
the pylinted cleaned up code in prepare_bindings.py.

If this breaks anyting, I'll revert immediately and figure out what
needs to be addressed.  I'm looking to wrap up
the cleanup aspect of the code change (pylinted, removal of code that
implements existing python stdlib code, fixes for Xcode adoption, etc.).

Bruce Mitchener f0248ca545 Add a Post-Build Event on Windows to copy the correct custom Python DLL to the LLDB binaries dir
Summary:
After a developer builds LLDB from source on Windows (assuming they've built it with Python support enabled), they may be somewhat flustered when it fails to launch with a cryptic error.

This happens because Windows can't find python27.dll (or python27_d.dll in case LLDB was built in debug mode). Many developers may have previously installed a release build of Python 2.7 and will not notice anything is amiss when they run a release build of LLDB because Windows will load the python27.dll from one of the system directories or `PATH` (rather than the one that the LLDB build instructions tell them to build). The issue tends to be more pronounced with debug builds of LLDB, since fewer developers probably have python27_d.dll sitting in one of the Windows system directories.

To ensure Windows loads the correct custom built Python DLL when launching LLDB I've added a post-build event that copies the relevant DLL (based on the LLDB build configuration) from `PYTHON_HOME` to the directory in which the LLDB executable is generated.

Todd Fiala 509300d94c cmake fixes for lldb target.
ninja lldb now does the following:
* forces the python post-build step to fire, which sets up the python lldb module properly.
* on Darwin and Linux, requires the lldb-server target to be built.
* on Darwin, requires the debugserver target to be built.

This should be a mandatory build process going forward, if Python
is enabled. The longer term desire is to remove the old shell
scripts entirely.

Zachary Turner 0405d68bb4 Use the debugginess of the python interpreter when symlinking _lldb.pyd.
Previously we would pass an argument to finishSwigWrapperClasses.py which
specified whether this was a debug or a release build.  But sometimes
CMAKE_BUILD_TYPE would not be set to anything, causing this argument
to be empty when passed in.  The only purpose of this argument was to
determine whether or not to append _d to the extension module when
creating the symlink.  This is only necessary when doing a debug
build of LLDB on Windows, which implies a debug interpreter, so we
replace this with a check to see if the running interpreter is a debug
one, and append _d if so.

Pavel Labath e4651eb033 Don't compile scripts directory if LLDB_DISABLE_PYTHON is set
Summary:
What looks like a typo has caused the scripts/Python directory to be compiled on non-Windows
platforms even with LLDB_DISABLE_PYTHON, which failed if Python.h was unavaiable. This changes
the condition to avoid compilation if LLDB_DISABLE_PYTHON is set.

Test Plan: Remove Python.h, verify compilation is successful.

Zachary Turner 719ec93a74 Rework the gtest directory structure.
This makes the directory structure mirror the canonical LLVM
directory structure for a gtest suite.

Additionally, this patch deletes the xcode project.  Nobody
is currently depending on this, and it would be better to have
gtest unit tests be hand-maintained in the Xcode workspace
rather than using this python test runner.  Patches to that
effect will be submitted as followups.

Zachary Turner 44a14d95c2 [CMake] Refactor LLDB main CMake file.
The existing state of affairs was getting a little unwieldy.

All of LLDB's utility functions and initial configuration was in
the root CMake file.  I split this up into 3 separate files and
moved them to relevant subfolders under cmake/modules.

Also, I deleted the add_lldb_definitions() function.  It seemed
to be somewhat useless and did not serve any real purpose that
I was able to figure out.

Zachary Turner 030b8cb413 Resubmit "[CMake] Change lldbAPI to be a CMake OBJECT library."
This resubmits r230380.  The primary cause of the failure was
actually just a warning, which we can disable at the CMake level
in a followup patch on the LLVM side.  The other thing which was
actually an error on the bot should be able to be fixed with
a clean.
