Chris Lattner a0e49f2ead push bytecode decompressor out through APIs. Now the bytecode reader 
api's look like this:

ModuleProvider *getBytecodeModuleProvider(
  const std::string &Filename,  ///< Name of file to be read
  BCDecompressor_t *BCDC = Compressor::decompressToNewBuffer,
  std::string* ErrMsg = 0,      ///< Optional error message holder
  BytecodeHandler* H = 0        ///< Optional handler for reader events
);

This is ugly, but allows a client to say:

  getBytecodeModuleProvider("foo", 0);

If they do this, there is no dependency on the compression libraries, saving
codesize.

Chris Lattner 76d4632d92 make all llvm tools call llvm_shutdown when they exit, static'ify some stuff. 
With this change, I can now move -stats to print when llvm_shutdown is called.

Bill Wendling afd54eb8b6 Replacing std::iostreams with llvm iostreams. Some of these changes involve 
adding a temporary wrapper around the ostream to make it friendly to
functions expecting an LLVM stream. This should be fixed in the future.

Reid Spencer c9c0473fa5 For PR495: 
Get rid of the difference between file paths and directory paths. The Path
class now simply stores a path that can refer to either a file or a
directory. This required various changes in the implementation and interface
of the class with the corresponding impact to its users. Doxygen comments were
also updated to reflect these changes. Interface changes are:

appendDirectory -> appendComponent
appendFile -> appendComponent
elideDirectory -> eraseComponent
elideFile -> eraseComponent
elideSuffix -> eraseSuffix
renameFile -> rename
setDirectory -> set
setFile -> set

Changes pass Dejagnu and llvm-test/SingleSource tests.

Reid Spencer 996ec72d48 For PR351: 
* Place a try/catch block around the entire tool to Make sure std::string
  exceptions are caught and printed before exiting the tool.
* Make sure we catch unhandled exceptions at the top level so that we don't
  abort with a useless message but indicate than an unhandled exception was
  generated.

Reid Spencer 1a8e15e356 Excise dependent library linking at Chris' request. llvm-link is intended 
to provide only the simplest linking of LLVM modules without trying to be
complete. Dependent library linking will be added to gccld or its successor

Chris Lattner c065ad850c Make sure that there is no case where a signal can occur leaving a partially 
written output file.  This is important because crashing testcases often write
part of a file out, and the testing harness decides the file is up-to-date next
time the test is run.
