Verbose and non-verbose parsing of .debug_line produced their output at
different points in the program. The most obvious impact of this was
that error messages were produced at different times, but it also
potentially reduced what clients could do by customising the stream or
warning/error handlers.
This change makes the two variants consistent by printing non-verbose
output inline, the same as verbose output.
Testing of the error messages has been modified to check the messages
always appear in the same location to illustrate the behaviour.

Because of that it was still possible to overflow it and pass the check.
There was no such problem with the "GnuHashTable->maskwords * sizeof(typename ELFT::Off)"

That leads to an infinite loop in the code (e.g. llvm-readobj hangs).
After fixing the issue I've found that actually we always tried

It happened because the terminator CIE (a CIE with the length == 0)

The internal flag -partial-profile in llvm conflicts with the flag with
the same name in llvm-profdata. The conflict happens in builds with

The patch renames llvm-profdata flag -partial-profile to -gen-partial-profile.
gcov 9 (r264462) started to use GCOV_TAG_OBJECT_SUMMARY. Before,
GCOV_TAG_PROGRAM_SUMMARY was used.
libclang_rt.profile should emit just one tag according to the version.

selected.
Fix the two bugs so that gcov can correctly decode "Runs:" from
libclang_rt.profile produced .gcda files, and llvm-cov gcov can
correctly decode "Runs:" from libgcov produced .gcda files.
gcov by default prints to a .gcov file. With --stdout, stdout is used.
Some summary information is omitted. There is no separator for multiple

This fixes a bug reported by Alex Renda on LLVMDev where mca did not correctly
mark a resource group as "reserved".
(See http://lists.llvm.org/pipermail/llvm-dev/2020-May/141485.html).
The issue was caused by a wrong check in function `initializeUsedResources`.
As a consequence of this, a resource group was left unreserved, and its field
`NumUnits` incorrectly reported an unrealistic number of consumed resource
units.
This patch fixes the issue with the handling of reserved resources in the
InstrBuilder class, and adds a simple test for it. Ideally, as suggested by
Andy Trick, most of these problems will disappear if in the future we will
introduce a (optional) DelayCycles vector for SchedWriteRes.
GCDAProfiling.c unnecessarily writes function names to .gcda files.
GCC 4.2 gcc/libgcov.c (now renamed to libgcc/libgcov*) did not write function
names. gcov-7 (compatible) crashes on .gcda produced by libclang_rt.profile
rL176173 realized the problem and introduced a mode to remove function
names.
llvm-cov code apparently takes GCDAProfiling.c output format as truth
and tries to decode function names. Additionally, llvm-cov tries to
decode tags in certain order which does not match libgcov emitted .gcda
files.
This patch fixes the .gcda decoder and makes it work with GCC 8 and 9
(10 is compatible with 9). Note, line statistics are broken and not
fixed by this patch.
Add test/tools/llvm-cov/gcov-{4.7,8,9}.c to test compatibility.

that concept was not just used for alias dependencies, but it was also used for
describing memory "order" dependencies (enforced by the memory consistency
model).
Instructions of a same memory group were considered "equivalent" as in:
independent operations that can potentially execute in parallel. The problem
was that the cost of a dependency (in terms of number of cycles) should have
been different for "order" dependency. Instructions in an order dependency
simply have to have to wait until their predecessors are "issued" to an
underlying pipeline (rather than having to wait until predecessors have beeng
fully executed). For simple "order" dependencies, this was effectively
introducing an artificial delay on the "issue" of independent loads and stores.
This patch fixes the issue and adds a new test named 'independent-load-stores.s'
to a bunch of x86 targets. That test contains the reproducible posted by Fabian
Ritter on PR45793.
I had to rerun the update-mca-tests script on several files. To avoid expected
regressions on some Exynos tests, I have added a -noalias=false flag (to match
the old strict behavior on latencies).
Some tests for processor Barcelona are improved/fixed by this change and they
now show better results. In a few tests we were incorrectly counting the time
spent by instructions in a scheduler queue. In one case in particular we now
correctly see a store executed out of order. That test was affected by the same
underlying issue reported as PR45793.

After SHF_ALLOC sections are ordered by LMA:

emit leading zeros. (binary-paddr.test %t4)
* If trailing sections are empty, GNU objcopy skips their contents while we

Prior to this patch, llvm-objdump would only look in the last section
(according to the section header table order) that matched an address
for a symbol when identifying the target symbol of a call or branch
operation. If there are multiple sections with the same address, due to
some of them being empty, it did not look in those, even if the symbol
couldn't be found in the first section looked in.
This patch causes llvm-objdump to look in all sections for possible
candidate symbols. If there are multiple possible symbols, it picks one
from a non-empty section, if possible (as that is more likely to be the
"real" symbol since functions can't really be in emptiy sections),
before falling back to those in empty sections. If all else fails, it
falls back to absolute symbols as it did before.

default DataExtractor behavior is to return an empty string when
reaching the end of file. And empty string is also used to terminate
these lists.
This makes the parsing code slightly more complicated, but this
complexity will go away once the parser starts working with truncating
data extractors. The reason I am doing it this way is because without
this, the truncation would regress the quality of error messages (right
now, we produce bad error messages only near EOF, but truncation would
make everything behave as if it was near EOF).

This probably isn't ideal - the error was being printed specifically
inline with the dumping that was more legible - but then the error
wasn't reported to stderr and didn't produce a non-zero exit code.
Probably the error message could be improved by adding more context now
that it isn't printed in-situ of the DIE dumping as much.
Makes it easier to test "this doesn't produce an error" (& indeed makes
that the implied default so we don't accidentally write tests that have
silent/sneaky errors as well as the positive behavior we're testing for)
Though the support for applying relocations is patchy enough that a
bunch of tests treat lack of relocation application as more of a warning
than an error - so rather than me trying to figure out how to add
support for a bunch of relocation types, let's degrade that to a warning
to match the usage (& indeed, it's sort of more of a tool warning anyway
- it's not that the DWARF is wrong, just that the tool can't fully cope
with it - and it's not like the tool won't dump the DWARF, it just won't
follow/render certain relocations - I guess in the most general case it
might try to render an unrelocated value & instead render something
bogus... but mostly seems to be about interesting relocations used in
eh_frame (& honestly it might be nice if we were lazier about doing this
relocation resolution anyway - if you're not dumping eh_frame, should we
really be erroring about the relocations in it?))
The R_AARCH64_PLT32 relocation type will be documented in the next release
of ELF for the 64-bit Arm Architecture. It is being added in draft state
for the benefit of the position independent vtable feature.
R_AARCH64_PLT32 is very similar to R_AARCH64_PREL32. The intention is to
provide a signed 32-bit integer representing an offset from the place
to a function.
- It relocates 32-bit data
- The expression is S + A - P
- The overflow check for the expression is -2^31 <= X < 2^31
- The relocation generates Thunks/Veneers/Stubs and PLT entries as per
R_AArch64_CALL26
- If the symbol S is an undefined weak the ABI does not define its value.
The ABI defines a code for ilp32 for completeness, I have added the code
but have only added to the existing reloc-types-elf-aarch64.text as there
is no ilp32 equivalent.

When two sections shared the same address, the disassembly code was
using pointer values when sorting (see the SectionRef less than
operator). Since those values aren't guaranteed to have a specific
order, this meant the disassembly code would sometimes change which
section to pick when finding symbols targeted by calls in fully linked
objects.
This change fixes the non-determinism, so that the same section is
always picked. This might have a negative impact in that now a section
without any symbol might be picked over a section with symbols, but this
will be addressed in a later commit.

Prior to this change the clang interface stubs format resembled
something ending with a symbol list like this:

This was problematic because we didn't actually want a map format and
also because we didn't like that an empty symbol list required
"Symbols: {}". That is to say without the empty {} llvm-ifs would crash
on an empty list.
With this new format it is much more clear which field is the symbol
name, and instead the [] that is used to express an empty symbol vector
is optional, ie:
Symbols:
- { Name: a, Type: Func }

Prior to this change, for non-relocatable objects llvm-readobj would
assume that all symbols that corresponded to a stack size section's

In the presence of an output section description combining

Revise the coverage mapping format to reduce binary size by:
1. Naming function records and marking them `linkonce_odr`, and
2. Compressing filenames.
This shrinks the size of llc's coverage segment by 82% (334MB -> 62MB)
and speeds up end-to-end single-threaded report generation by 10%. For
reference the compressed name data in llc is 81MB (__llvm_prf_names).
Rationale for changes to the format:
- With the current format, most coverage function records are discarded.
E.g., more than 97% of the records in llc are *duplicate* placeholders
for functions visible-but-not-used in TUs. Placeholders *are* used to
show under-covered functions, but duplicate placeholders waste space.
- We reached general consensus about giving (1) a try at the 2017 code
coverage BoF [1]. The thinking was that using `linkonce_odr` to merge
duplicates is simpler than alternatives like teaching build systems
about a coverage-aware database/module/etc on the side.
- Revising the format is expensive due to the backwards compatibility
requirement, so we might as well compress filenames while we're at it.
This shrinks the encoded filenames in llc by 86% (12MB -> 1.6MB).

This patch fixes a bug that would cause dsymutil to collect
.swiftinterface files for the Swift stdlib and other SDK
modules. There is no advantage in copying these since they should be
loaded from the ones bundled with LLDB's embedded Swift compiler
instead and copying them will cause LLDB to recompile them from source
instead of loading their prebuilt cached counterparts in the SDK.

The patch was reverted in 69da40033 because of test failures on windows.
The problem was the unpredictable order of some of the error messages,
which I've tried to strenghten in that patch.
It turns out this is not possible to do in verbose mode because there
the data is being writted as it is being parsed. No amount of flushing
(as I've done in the non-verbose mode) will help that. Indeed, even
without any buffering the warning messages can end in the middle of a
line in non-verbose mode.
In this patch, I have reverted the changes which tested the relative
position of the warning message, except for the messages about
unsupported initial length, which are the ones I really wanted to test,
and which do come out reasonably.
The original commit message was:
This patch if motivated by D74560, specifically the subthread about what
to print upon encountering reserved initial length values.
If the debug_line prologue has an unsupported version, we skip parsing
the rest of the data. If we encounter an reserved initial length field,
we don't even parse the version. However, we still print out all members
(with value 0) in the dump function.
This patch introduces early exits in the Prologue::dump function so that
we print only the fields that were parsed successfully. In case of an
unsupported version, we skip printing all subsequent prologue fields --
because we don't even know if this version has those fields. In case of a
reserved unit length, we don't print anything -- if the very first field
of the prologue is invalid, it's hard to say if we even have a prologue
to begin with.
Note that the user will still be able to see the invalid/reserved
initial length value in the error message. I've modified (reordered)
debug_line_invalid.test to show that the error message comes straight
after the debug_line offset. I've also added some flush() calls to the
dumping code to ensure this is the case in all situations (without that,
the warnings could get out of sync if the output was not a terminal -- I
guess this is why std::iostreams have the tie() function).

Summary:
This patch creates the llvm-gsymutil binary that can convert object files to GSYM using the --convert <path> option. It can also dump and lookup addresses within GSYM files that have been saved to disk.
To dump a file:
llvm-gsymutil /path/to/a.gsym
To perform address lookups, like with atos, on GSYM files:
llvm-gsymutil --address 0x1000 --address 0x1100 /path/to/a.gsym
To convert a mach-o or ELF file, including any DWARF debug info contained within the object files:
llvm-gsymutil --convert /path/to/a.out --out-file /path/to/a.out.gsym
Conversion highlights:
- convert DWARF debug info in mach-o or ELF files to GSYM
- convert symbols in symbol table to GSYM and don't convert symbols that overlap with DWARF debug info
- extract UUID from object files
- extract .text (read + execute) section address ranges and filter out any DWARF or symbols that don't fall in those ranges.
- if .text sections are extracted, and if the last gsym::FunctionInfo object has no size, cap the size to the end of the section the function was contained in
Dumping GSYM files will dump all sections of the GSYM file in textual format.

While the value of the CIE pointer field in a DWARF FDE record is
an offset to the corresponding CIE record from the beginning of
the section, for EH FDE records it is relative to the current offset.
Previously, we did not make that distinction when dumped both kinds
of FDE records and just printed the same value for the CIE pointer
field and the CIE offset; that was acceptable for DWARF FDEs but was
wrong for EH FDEs.
This patch fixes the issue by explicitly printing the offset of the
linked CIE object.

I've noticed that it is not convenient to create YAMLs from
binaries (using obj2yaml) that have to be test cases for obj2yaml
later (after applying yaml2obj).
The problem, for example is that obj2yaml emits "DynamicSymbols:"
key instead of .dynsym. It also does not create .dynstr.
And when a YAML document without explicitly defined .dynsym/.dynstr
is given to yaml2obj, we have issues:
1) These sections are placed after non-allocatable sections (I've fixed it in D74756).
2) They have VA == 0. User needs create descriptions for such sections explicitly manually
to set a VA.
This patch addresses (2). I suggest to let yaml2obj assign virtual addresses by itself.
It makes an output binary to be much closer to "normal" ELF.
(It is still possible to use "Address: 0x0" for a section to get the original behavior
if it is needed)

GNU objdump prints the method name in disassembly output, and upon further investigation this seems to come from debug info, not the symbol table.
Some additional refactoring is necessary to make this work even when the line number is 0/the filename is unknown. The added test case includes a note for this scenario.
