Vedant Kumar cc7b2a55c2 [DAGCombiner] Change the SDLoc on split extloads (2/N)
In DAGCombiner, we try to simplify this pattern:

  ([s|z]ext (load ...))

Conceptually, a new extload which is created while splitting the load
should have the same debug location as the load.

Making this change affects the IROrder of the new load, causing some
test case churn.

In practice, the new location is never different from the location of
the [s|z]ext, at least not during check-llvm or a stage2 build.

Petar Jovanovic e2bfcd6394 Correct dwarf unwind information in function epilogue
This patch aims to provide correct dwarf unwind information in function
epilogue for X86.
It consists of two parts. The first part inserts CFI instructions that set
appropriate cfa offset and cfa register in emitEpilogue() in
X86FrameLowering. This part is X86 specific.

The second part is platform independent and ensures that:

* CFI instructions do not affect code generation (they are not counted as
  instructions when tail duplicating or tail merging)
* Unwind information remains correct when a function is modified by
  different passes. This is done in a late pass by analyzing information
  about cfa offset and cfa register in BBs and inserting additional CFI
  directives where necessary.

Added CFIInstrInserter pass:

* analyzes each basic block to determine cfa offset and register are valid
  at its entry and exit
* verifies that outgoing cfa offset and register of predecessor blocks match
  incoming values of their successors
* inserts additional CFI directives at basic block beginning to correct the
  rule for calculating CFA

Having CFI instructions in function epilogue can cause incorrect CFA
calculation rule for some basic blocks. This can happen if, due to basic
block reordering, or the existence of multiple epilogue blocks, some of the
blocks have wrong cfa offset and register values set by the epilogue block
above them.
CFIInstrInserter is currently run only on X86, but can be used by any target
that implements support for adding CFI instructions in epilogue.

Patch by Violeta Vukobrat.

Quentin Colombet 48abac82b8 Revert "[MachineCopyPropagation] Extend pass to do COPY source forwarding"
This reverts commit r323991.

This commit breaks target that don't model all the register constraints
in TableGen. So far the workaround was to set the
hasExtraXXXRegAllocReq, but it proves that it doesn't cover all the
cases.
For instance, when mutating an instruction (like in the lowering of
COPYs) the isRenamable flag is not properly updated. The same problem
will happen when attaching machine operand from one instruction to
another.

Geoff Berry is working on a fix in https://reviews.llvm.org/D43042.

Geoff Berry 94503c7bc3 [MachineCopyPropagation] Extend pass to do COPY source forwarding
Summary:
This change extends MachineCopyPropagation to do COPY source forwarding
and adds an additional run of the pass to the default pass pipeline just
after register allocation.

This version of this patch uses the newly added
MachineOperand::isRenamable bit to avoid forwarding registers is such a
way as to violate constraints that aren't captured in the
Machine IR (e.g. ABI or ISA constraints).

This change is a continuation of the work started in D30751.

Puyan Lotfi 43e94b15ea Followup on Proposal to move MIR physical register namespace to '$' sigil.
Discussed here:

http://lists.llvm.org/pipermail/llvm-dev/2018-January/120320.html

In preparation for adding support for named vregs we are changing the sigil for
physical registers in MIR to '$' from '%'. This will prevent name clashes of

Try to reverse the constant-shrinking that happens in SimplifyDemandedBits()
for 'and' masks when it results in a smaller sign-extended immediate.

We are also able to detect dead 'and' ops here (the mask is all ones). In
that case, we replace and return without selecting the 'and'.

Other targets might want to share some of this logic by enabling this under a
target hook, but I didn't see diffs for simple cases with PowerPC or AArch64,
so they may already have some specialized logic for this kind of thing or have
different needs.

Reid Kleckner 7adb2fdbba Revert "Correct dwarf unwind information in function epilogue for X86"
This reverts r317579, originally committed as r317100.

There is a design issue with marking CFI instructions duplicatable. Not
all targets support the CFIInstrInserter pass, and targets like Darwin
can't cope with duplicated prologue setup CFI instructions. The compact
unwind info emission fails.

When the following code is compiled for arm64 on Mac at -O3, the CFI
instructions end up getting tail duplicated, which causes compact unwind
info emission to fail:
  int a, c, d, e, f, g, h, i, j, k, l, m;
  void n(int o, int *b) {
    if (g)
      f = 0;
    for (; f < o; f++) {
      m = a;
      if (l > j * k > i)
        j = i = k = d;
      h = b[c] - e;
    }
  }

We get assembly that looks like this:
; BB#1:                                 ; %if.then
Lloh3:
	adrp	x9, _f@GOTPAGE

	.cfi_offset w19, -8
	.cfi_offset w20, -16
	cmp		w8, w0
	b.lt	LBB0_3
	b	LBB0_7
LBB0_2:                                 ; %entry.if.end_crit_edge

	b.ge	LBB0_7
LBB0_3:                                 ; %for.body.lr.ph

Note the multiple .cfi_def* directives. Compact unwind info emission
can't handle that.

Petar Jovanovic e2a585dddc Reland "Correct dwarf unwind information in function epilogue for X86"
Reland r317100 with minor fix regarding ComputeCommonTailLength function in
BranchFolding.cpp. Skipping top CFI instructions block needs to executed on
several more return points in ComputeCommonTailLength().

Original r317100 message:

"Correct dwarf unwind information in function epilogue for X86"

This patch aims to provide correct dwarf unwind information in function
epilogue for X86.

It consists of two parts. The first part inserts CFI instructions that set
appropriate cfa offset and cfa register in emitEpilogue() in
X86FrameLowering. This part is X86 specific.

The second part is platform independent and ensures that:

- CFI instructions do not affect code generation
- Unwind information remains correct when a function is modified by
  different passes. This is done in a late pass by analyzing information
  about cfa offset and cfa register in BBs and inserting additional CFI
  directives where necessary.

Changed CFI instructions so that they:

- are duplicable
- are not counted as instructions when tail duplicating or tail merging
- can be compared as equal

Added CFIInstrInserter pass:

- analyzes each basic block to determine cfa offset and register valid at
  its entry and exit
- verifies that outgoing cfa offset and register of predecessor blocks match
  incoming values of their successors
- inserts additional CFI directives at basic block beginning to correct the
  rule for calculating CFA

Having CFI instructions in function epilogue can cause incorrect CFA
calculation rule for some basic blocks. This can happen if, due to basic
block reordering, or the existence of multiple epilogue blocks, some of the
blocks have wrong cfa offset and register values set by the epilogue block
above them.

CFIInstrInserter is currently run only on X86, but can be used by any target
that implements support for adding CFI instructions in epilogue.

Reid Kleckner ab23dace56 [MC] Suppress .Lcfi labels when emitting textual assembly
Summary:
This suppresses the generation of .Lcfi labels in our textual assembler.
It was annoying that this generated cascading .Lcfi labels:
  llc foo.ll -o - | llvm-mc | llvm-mc

After three trips through MCAsmStreamer, we'd have three labels in the
output when none are necessary. We should only bother creating the
labels and frame data when making a real object file.

This supercedes D38605, which moved the entire .seh_ implementation into
MCObjectStreamer.

This has the advantage that we do more checking when emitting textual
assembly, as a minor efficiency cost. Outputting textual assembly is not
performance critical, so this shouldn't matter.

Geoff Berry 51f52c4fca Re-enable "[MachineCopyPropagation] Extend pass to do COPY source forwarding"
Two issues identified by buildbots were addressed:
    - The pass no longer forwards COPYs to physical register uses, since
      doing so can break code that implicitly relies on the physical
      register number of the use.
    - The pass no longer forwards COPYs to undef uses, since doing so
      can break the machine verifier by creating LiveRanges that don't
      end on a use (since the undef operand is not considered a use).

    [MachineCopyPropagation] Extend pass to do COPY source forwarding

    This change extends MachineCopyPropagation to do COPY source forwarding.

    This change also extends the MachineCopyPropagation pass to be able to
    be run during register allocation, after physical registers have been
    assigned, but before the virtual registers have been re-written, which
    allows it to remove virtual register COPY LiveIntervals that become dead
    through the forwarding of all of their uses.

Geoff Berry 4e38e02e6f Revert "[MachineCopyPropagation] Extend pass to do COPY source forwarding"
This reverts commit r311038.

Several buildbots are breaking, and at least one appears to be due to
the forwarding of physical regs enabled by this change. Reverting while
I investigate further.

Daniel Jasper 559aa75382 Revert "r306529 - [X86] Correct dwarf unwind information in function epilogue"
I am 99% sure that this breaks the PPC ASAN build bot:

If it doesn't go back to green, we can recommit (and fix the original
commit message at the same time :) ).

Petar Jovanovic 7b3a38ec30 [X86] Correct dwarf unwind information in function epilogue
CFI instructions that set appropriate cfa offset and cfa register are now
inserted in emitEpilogue() in X86FrameLowering.

Majority of the changes in this patch:

1. Ensure that CFI instructions do not affect code generation.
2. Enable maintaining correct information about cfa offset and cfa register
in a function when basic blocks are reordered, merged, split, duplicated.

These changes are target independent and described below.

Changed CFI instructions so that they:

1. are duplicable
2. are not counted as instructions when tail duplicating or tail merging
3. can be compared as equal

Add information to each MachineBasicBlock about cfa offset and cfa register
that are valid at its entry and exit (incoming and outgoing CFI info). Add
support for updating this information when basic blocks are merged, split,
duplicated, created. Add a verification pass (CFIInfoVerifier) that checks
that outgoing cfa offset and register of predecessor blocks match incoming
values of their successors.

Incoming and outgoing CFI information is used by a late pass
(CFIInstrInserter) that corrects CFA calculation rule for a basic block if
needed. That means that additional CFI instructions get inserted at basic
block beginning to correct the rule for calculating CFA. Having CFI
instructions in function epilogue can cause incorrect CFA calculation rule
for some basic blocks. This can happen if, due to basic block reordering,
or the existence of multiple epilogue blocks, some of the blocks have wrong
cfa offset and register values set by the epilogue block above them.

Patch by Violeta Vukobrat.

Simon Pilgrim 46dd55f1e1 [X86][SSE] Change BUILD_VECTOR interleaving ordering to improve coalescing/combine opportunities
We currently generate BUILD_VECTOR as a tree of UNPCKL shuffles of the same type:

e.g. for v4f32:

Step 1: unpcklps 0, 2 ==> X: <?, ?, 2, 0>
      : unpcklps 1, 3 ==> Y: <?, ?, 3, 1>
Step 2: unpcklps X, Y ==>    <3, 2, 1, 0>

The issue is because we are not placing sequential vector elements together early enough, we fail to recognise many combinable patterns - consecutive scalar loads, extractions etc.

Instead, this patch unpacks progressively larger sequential vector elements together:

e.g. for v4f32:

Step 1: unpcklps 0, 2 ==> X: <?, ?, 1, 0>
      : unpcklps 1, 3 ==> Y: <?, ?, 3, 2>
Step 2: unpcklpd X, Y ==>    <3, 2, 1, 0>

This does mean that we are creating UNPCKL shuffle of different value types, but the relevant combines that benefit from this are quite capable of handling the additional BITCASTs that are now included in the shuffle tree.

Simon Pilgrim af33757b5d [X86][SSE]] Lower BUILD_VECTOR with repeated elts as BUILD_VECTOR + VECTOR_SHUFFLE
It can be costly to transfer from the gprs to the xmm registers and can prevent loads merging.

This patch splits vXi16/vXi32/vXi64 BUILD_VECTORS that use the same operand in multiple elements into a BUILD_VECTOR with only a single insertion of each of those elements and then performs an unary shuffle to duplicate the values.

There are a couple of minor regressions this patch unearths due to some missing MOVDDUP/BROADCAST folds that I will address in a future patch.

Note: Now that vector shuffle lowering and combining is pretty good we should be reusing that instead of duplicating so much in LowerBUILD_VECTOR - this is the first of several patches to address this.

Choosing a "cfi" name makes the intend a bit clearer in an assembly dump
and more importantly the assembly dumps are slightly more stable as the

createTempSymbol() more or less often.
As they are temp labels the name doesn't influence the generated object

Summary: The one tricky thing about this is that the sign/zero_extend_inreg uses v64i8 as an input type which isn't legal without BWI support. Though the vpmovsxbq and vpmovzxbq instructions themselves don't require BWI. To support this we need to add custom lowering for ZERO_EXTEND_VECTOR_INREG with v64i8 input. This can mostly reuse the existing sign extend code with a couple checks for sign extend vs zero extend added.
