Stephane Moore 5f70c473c9 [clang-tidy] Disable google-runtime-int in Objective-C++ 🔓
Summary:
In contrast to Google C++, Objective-C often uses built-in integer types
other than `int`. In fact, the Objective-C runtime itself defines the
types NSInteger¹ and NSUInteger² which are variant types depending on
the target architecture. The Objective-C style guide indicates that
usage of system types with variant sizes is appropriate when handling
values provided by system interfaces³. Objective-C++ is commonly the
result of conversion from Objective-C to Objective-C++ for the purpose
of integrating C++ functionality. The opposite of Objective-C++ being
used to expose Objective-C functionality to C++ is less common,
potentially because Objective-C has a signficantly more uneven presence
on different platforms compared to C++. This generally predisposes
Objective-C++ to commonly being more Objective-C than C++. Forcing
Objective-C++ developers to perform conversions between variant system types
and fixed size integer types depending on target architecture when
Objective-C++ commonly uses variant system types from Objective-C is
likely to lead to more bugs and overhead than benefit. For that reason,
this change proposes to disable google-runtime-int in Objective-C++.

Paul Hoad 68f5e5456f [clang-tidy] add OverrideMacro to modernize-use-override check
Summary:
The usefulness of **modernize-use-override** can be reduced if you have to live in an environment where you support multiple compilers, some of which sadly are not yet fully C++11 compliant

some codebases have to use override as a macro OVERRIDE e.g.

```
// GCC 4.7 supports explicit virtual overrides when C++11 support is enabled.
```

This allows code to be compiled with C++11 compliant compilers and get warnings and errors that clang, MSVC,gcc can give, while still allowing other legacy pre C++11 compilers to compile the code. This can be an important step towards modernizing C++ code whilst living in a legacy codebase.

When it comes to clang tidy, the use of the **modernize-use-override** is one of the most useful checks, but the messages reported are inaccurate for that codebase if the standard approach is to use the macros OVERRIDE and/or FINAL.

When combined with fix-its that introduce the C++11 override keyword, they become fatal, resulting in the modernize-use-override check being turned off to prevent the introduction of such errors.

This revision, allows the possibility for the replacement **override **to be a macro instead, Allowing the clang-tidy check to be run on both pre and post C++11 code, and allowing fix-its to be applied.

Stephane Moore af4755aca8 [clang-tidy/checks] Update objc-property-declaration check to allow arbitrary acronyms and initialisms 🔧
Summary:
§1 Description

This changes the objc-property-declaration check to allow arbitrary acronyms and initialisms instead of using whitelisted acronyms. In Objective-C it is relatively common to use project prefixes in property names for the purposes of disambiguation. For example, the CIColor¹ and CGColor² properties on UIColor both represent symbol prefixes being used in proeprty names outside of Apple's accepted acronyms³. The union of Apple's accepted acronyms and all symbol prefixes that might be used for disambiguation in property declarations effectively allows for any arbitrary sequence of capital alphanumeric characters to be acceptable in property declarations. This change updates the check accordingly.

The test variants with custom configurations are deleted as part of this change because their configurations no longer impact behavior. The acronym configurations are currently preserved for backwards compatibility of check configuration.

Summary:
§1 Description

This check finds function names in function declarations in Objective-C files that do not follow the naming pattern described in the Google Objective-C Style Guide. Function names should be in UpperCamelCase and functions that are not of static storage class should have an appropriate prefix as described in the Google Objective-C Style Guide. The function `main` is a notable exception. Function declarations in expansions in system headers are ignored.

Example conforming function definitions:
```
static bool IsPositive(int i) { return i > 0; }
static bool ABIsPositive(int i) { return i > 0; }
bool ABIsNegative(int i) { return i < 0; }
```

A fixit hint is generated for functions of static storage class but otherwise the check does not generate a fixit hint because an appropriate prefix for the function cannot be determined.

Thus right now no fixit exists.

Jonas Toth 6b3d33e996 [clang-tidy] new check: bugprone-too-small-loop-variable
The new checker searches for those for loops which has a loop variable with a "too small" type which means this type can't represent all values which are part of the iteration range.

For example:

```
int main() {
  long size = 300000;
  for( short int i = 0; i < size; ++i) {}
}
```

The short type leads to infinite loop here because it can't store all values in the `[0..size]` interval. In a real use case, size means a container's size which depends on the user input. Which means for small amount of objects the algorithm works, but with a larger user input the software will freeze.

The idea of the checker comes from the LibreOffice project, where the same check was implemented as a clang compiler plugin, called `LoopVarTooSmall` (LLVM licensed).
The idea is the same behind this check, but the code is different because of the different framework.

Roman Lebedev 6cfa38f1f1 [clang-tidy] Non-private member variables in classes (MISRA, CppCoreGuidelines, HICPP)
Summary:
Finds classes that not only contain the data (non-static member variables),
but also have logic (non-static member functions), and diagnoses all member
variables that have any other scope other than `private`. They should be
made `private`, and manipulated exclusively via the member functions.

Optionally, classes with all member variables being `public` could be
ignored, and optionally all `public` member variables could be ignored.

Options
-------

* IgnoreClassesWithAllMemberVariablesBeingPublic

  Allows to completely ignore classes if **all** the member variables in that
  class have `public` visibility.

* IgnorePublicMemberVariables

Jonas Toth cd3e370504 Revert "[clang-tidy] New checker for not null-terminated result caused by strlen(), size() or equal length"
This reverts commit r344374.

llvm-svn: 344442
2018-10-13 09:30:58 +00:00
Jonas Toth 78886233b3 [clang-tidy] New checker for not null-terminated result caused by strlen(), size() or equal length
New checker called bugprone-not-null-terminated-result. This check finds function calls where it is possible to cause a not null-terminated result. Usually the proper length of a string is strlen(src) + 1 or equal length of this expression, because the null terminator needs an extra space. Without the null terminator it can result in undefined behaviour when the string is read.

The following function calls are checked:
memcpy, wmemcpy, memcpy_s, wmemcpy_s, memchr, wmemchr, memmove, wmemmove, memmove_s, wmemmove_s, memset, wmemset, strerror_s, strncmp, wcsncmp, strxfrm, wcsxfrm

The following is a real-world example where the programmer forgot to increase the passed third argument, which is size_t length. That is why the length of the allocated memory is problematic too.

static char *StringCpy(const std::string &str) {
  char *result = reinterpret_cast<char *>(malloc(str.size()));
  memcpy(result, str.data(), str.size());
  return result;
}

After running the tool fix-it rewrites all the necessary code according to the given options. If it is necessary, the buffer size will be increased to hold the null terminator.

static char *StringCpy(const std::string &str) {
  char *result = reinterpret_cast<char *>(malloc(str.size() + 1));
  strcpy(result, str.data());
  return result;
}

I ran the check against entire llvm repository. Except for expected `nested namespace definitions only available with -std=c++17 or -std=gnu++17` warnings I noticed no issues when the check was performed.

Example:
```
namespace a { namespace b {
void test();
can become
```
namespace a::b {
void test();
}

    "time.clang-tidy.readability-function-size.sys": 1.2418899999999974e-01
  }
  }
```
There are two arguments that control profile storage:
* `-store-check-profile=<prefix>`
  By default reports are printed in tabulated format to stderr. When this option
  is passed, these per-TU profiles are instead stored as JSON.
  If the prefix is not an absolute path, it is considered to be relative to the
  directory from where you have run :program:`clang-tidy`. All `.` and `..`
  patterns in the path are collapsed, and symlinks are resolved.
  Example:
  Let's suppose you have a source file named `example.cpp`, located in
  `/source` directory.
  * If you specify `-store-check-profile=/tmp`, then the profile will be saved
    to `/tmp/<timestamp>-example.cpp.json`
  * If you run :program:`clang-tidy` from within `/foo` directory, and specify
    `-store-check-profile=.`, then the profile will still be saved to
    `/foo/<timestamp>-example.cpp.json`
Summary:
Pretty straight-forward, just count all the variable declarations in the function's body, and if more than the configured threshold - do complain.
Note that this continues perverse practice of disabling the new option by default.
I'm not certain where is the balance point between not being too noisy, and actually enforcing the good practice.
If we really want to not disable this by default, but also to not cause too many new warnings, we could default to 50 or so.
But that is a lot of variables too...
I was able to find one coding style referencing variable count:
  - https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/v4.15/process/coding-style.html#functions
    > Another measure of the function is the number of local variables. They shouldn’t exceed 5-10, or you’re doing something wrong.
not the only class with this problem). It has a very low true positive
rate, just remove it until we find a better solution for dangling string
references.
Jonas Toth bf50a7f880 [clang-tidy] Resubmit hicpp-multiway-paths-covered without breaking test
The original check did break the green buildbot in the sanitizer build.
It took a while to redroduce and understand the issue.
There occured a stackoverflow while parsing the AST. The testcase with
256 case labels was the problem because each case label added another
stackframe. It seemed that the issue occured only in 'RelWithDebInfo' builds
and not in normal sanitizer builds.
To simplify the matchers the recognition for the different kinds of switch
statements has been moved into a seperate function and will not be done with
ASTMatchers. This is an attempt to reduce recursion and stacksize as well.
The new check removed this big testcase. Covering all possible values is still
implemented for bitfields and works there. The same logic on integer types
will lead to the issue.
Running it over LLVM gives the following results:
Summary:
Many architectures provide SIMD operations (e.g. x86 SSE/AVX, Power AltiVec/VSX,
ARM NEON). It is common that SIMD code implementing the same algorithm, is
written in multiple target-dispatching pieces to optimize for different
architectures or micro-architectures.
The C++ standard proposal P0214 and its extensions cover many common SIMD
operations. By migrating from target-dependent intrinsics to P0214 operations,
the SIMD code can be simplified and pieces for different targets can be unified.
Refer to http://wg21.link/p0214 for introduction and motivation for the
data-parallel standard library.
This adds a new clang-tidy check `objc-forbidden-subclassing` which
ensures clients do not create subclasses of Objective-C classes which
are not designed to be subclassed.
(Note that for code under your control, you should use
__attribute__((objc_subclassing_restricted)) instead -- this
is intended for third-party APIs which cannot be modified.)
By default, the following classes (which are publicly documented
as not supporting subclassing) are forbidden from subclassing:
ABNewPersonViewController
ABPeoplePickerNavigationController
ABPersonViewController
ABUnknownPersonViewController
NSHashTable
NSMapTable
NSPointerArray
NSPointerFunctions
NSTimer
UIActionSheet
UIAlertView
UIImagePickerController
UITextInputMode
UIWebView
Clients can set a CheckOption
`objc-forbidden-subclassing.ClassNames` to a semicolon-separated
list of class names, which overrides this list.
Haojian Wu abcd64ccbf [clang-tidy ObjC] [1/3] New module `objc` for Objective-C checks
Summary:
This is part 1 of 3 of a series of changes to improve Objective-C
linting in clang-tidy.
This introduces a new clang-tidy module, `objc`, specifically for
Objective-C / Objective-C++ checks.
The module is currently empty; D39142 adds the first check.
Jonas Toth 6ccc1c342a [clang-tidy] Implement type-based check for `gsl::owner`
This check implements the typebased semantic of `gsl::owner`.
Meaning, that
- only `gsl::owner` is allowed to get `delete`d
- `new` expression must be assigned to `gsl::owner`
- function calls that expect `gsl::owner` as argument, must get either an owner
  or a newly created and recognized resource (in the moment only `new`ed memory)
- assignment to `gsl::owner` must be either a resource or another owner
- functions returning an `gsl::owner` are considered as factories, and their result
  must be assigned to an `gsl::owner`
- classes that have an `gsl::owner`-member must declare a non-default destructor
There are some problems that occur when typededuction is in place.
For example `auto Var = function_that_returns_owner();` the type of `Var` will not be
an `gsl::owner`. This case is catched, and explicitly noted.
But cases like fully templated functions
```
template <typename T>
void f(T t) { delete t; }
// ...
f(gsl::owner<int*>(new int(42)));
```
Will created false positive (the deletion is problematic), since the type deduction
removes the wrapping `typeAlias`.
