Pavel Labath caa7e765e5 [lldb] Make ProcessLauncherPosixFork (mostly) async-signal-safe
Multithreaded applications using fork(2) need to be extra careful about
what they do in the fork child. Without any special precautions (which
only really work if you can fully control all threads) they can only
safely call async-signal-safe functions. This is because the forked
child will contain snapshot of the parents memory at a random moment in
the execution of all of the non-forking threads (this is where the
similarity with signals comes in).

For example, the other threads could have been holding locks that can
now never be released in the child process and any attempt to obtain
them would block. This is what sometimes happen when using tcmalloc --
our fork child ends up hanging in the memory allocation routine. It is
also what happened with our logging code, which is why we added a
pthread_atfork hackaround.

This patch implements a proper fix to the problem, by which is to make
the child code async-signal-safe. The ProcessLaunchInfo structure is
transformed into a simpler ForkLaunchInfo representation, one which can
be read without allocating memory and invoking complex library
functions.

Strictly speaking this implementation is not async-signal-safe, as it
still invokes library functions outside of the posix-blessed set of
entry points. Strictly adhering to the spec would mean reimplementing a
lot of the functionality in pure C, so instead I rely on the fact that
any reasonable implementation of some functions (e.g.,
basic_string::c_str()) will not start allocating memory or doing other
unsafe things.

The new child code does not call into our logging infrastructure, which
enables us to remove the pthread_atfork call from there.

Greg Clayton da816ca0cb Added the ability to cache the finalized symbol tables subsequent debug sessions to start faster.
This is an updated version of the https://reviews.llvm.org/D113789 patch with the following changes:
- We no longer modify modification times of the cache files
- Use LLVM caching and cache pruning instead of making a new cache mechanism (See DataFileCache.h/.cpp)
- Add signature to start of each file since we are not using modification times so we can tell when caches are stale and remove and re-create the cache file as files are changed
- Add settings to control the cache size, disk percentage and expiration in days to keep cache size under control

This patch enables symbol tables to be cached in the LLDB index cache directory. All cache files are in a single directory and the files use unique names to ensure that files from the same path will re-use the same file as files get modified. This means as files change, their cache files will be deleted and updated. The modification time of each of the cache files is not modified so that access based pruning of the cache can be implemented.

The symbol table cache files start with a signature that uniquely identifies a file on disk and contains one or more of the following items:
- object file UUID if available
- object file mod time if available
- object name for BSD archive .o files that are in .a files if available

If none of these signature items are available, then the file will not be cached. This keeps temporary object files from expressions from being cached.

When the cache files are loaded on subsequent debug sessions, the signature is compare and if the file has been modified (uuid changes, mod time changes, or object file mod time changes) then the cache file is deleted and re-created.

Module caching must be enabled by the user before this can be used:

symbols.enable-lldb-index-cache (boolean) = false

(lldb) settings set symbols.enable-lldb-index-cache true

There is also a setting that allows the user to specify a module cache directory that defaults to a directory that defaults to being next to the symbols.clang-modules-cache-path directory in a temp directory:

(lldb) settings show symbols.lldb-index-cache-path
/var/folders/9p/472sr0c55l9b20x2zg36b91h0000gn/C/lldb/IndexCache

If this setting is enabled, the finalized symbol tables will be serialized and saved to disc so they can be quickly loaded next time you debug.

Each module can cache one or more files in the index cache directory. The cache file names must be unique to a file on disk and its architecture and object name for .o files in BSD archives. This allows universal mach-o files to support caching multuple architectures in the same module cache directory. Making the file based on the this info allows this cache file to be deleted and replaced when the file gets updated on disk. This keeps the cache from growing over time during the compile/edit/debug cycle and prevents out of space issues.

If the cache is enabled, the symbol table will be loaded from the cache the next time you debug if the module has not changed.

The cache also has settings to control the size of the cache on disk. Each time LLDB starts up with the index cache enable, the cache will be pruned to ensure it stays within the user defined settings:

(lldb) settings set symbols.lldb-index-cache-expiration-days <days>

A value of zero will disable cache files from expiring when the cache is pruned. The default value is 7 currently.

(lldb) settings set symbols.lldb-index-cache-max-byte-size <size>

A value of zero will disable pruning based on a total byte size. The default value is zero currently.
(lldb) settings set symbols.lldb-index-cache-max-percent <percentage-of-disk-space>

A value of 100 will allow the disc to be filled to the max, a value of zero will disable percentage pruning. The default value is zero.

Pavel Labath 5c4cb323e8 [lldb/qemu] Add support for pty redirection
Lldb uses a pty to read/write to the standard input and output of the
debugged process. For host processes this would be automatically set up
by Target::FinalizeFileActions. The Qemu platform is in a unique
position of not really being a host platform, but not being remote
either. It reports IsHost() = false, but it is sufficiently host-like
that we can use the usual pty mechanism.

This patch adds the necessary glue code to enable pty redirection. It
includes a small refactor of Target::FinalizeFileActions and
ProcessLaunchInfo::SetUpPtyRedirection to reduce the amount of
boilerplate that would need to be copied.

I will note that qemu is not able to separate output from the emulated
program from the output of the emulator itself, so the two will arrive
intertwined. Normally this should not be a problem since qemu should not
produce any output during regular operation, but some output can slip
through in case of errors. This situation should be pretty obvious (to a
human), and it is the best we can do anyway.

For testing purposes, and inspired by lldb-server tests, I have extended
the mock emulator with the ability "program" the behavior of the
"emulated" program via command-line arguments.

Unify the listen and connect code inside lldb-server to use
ConnectionFileDescriptor uniformly rather than a mix of it and Acceptor.
This involves:

- adding a function to map legacy values of host:port parameter
  (including legacy server URLs) into CFD-style URLs

- adding a callback to return "local socket id" (i.e. UNIX socket path
  or TCP port number) between listen() and accept() calls in CFD

- adding a "unix-abstract-accept" scheme to CFD

As an additional advantage, this permits lldb-server to accept any URL
known to CFD including the new serial:// scheme.  Effectively,
lldb-server can now listen on the serial port.  Tests for connecting
over a pty are added to test that.

Pavel Labath 0a39a9c2cb Modernize and simplify HostInfo::GetOSKernelDescription
Replace bool+by-ref argument with llvm::Optional, and move the common
implementation into HostInfoPOSIX. Based on my (simple) experiment,
the uname and the sysctl approach return the same value on MacOS, so
there's no need for a mac-specific implementation of this functionality.

protocols.  All read operations should be going through the select(2)

writes in the blocking mode.

Michał Górny 4a7b4beac7 [lldb] Add serial:// protocol for connecting to serial port
Add a new serial:// protocol along with SerialPort that provides a new
API to open serial ports.  The URL consists of serial device path
followed by URL-style options, e.g.:

    serial:///dev/ttyS0?baud=115200&parity=even

If no options are provided, the serial port is only set to raw mode
and the other attributes remain unchanged.  Attributes provided via
options are modified to the specified values.  Upon closing the serial
port, its original attributes are restored.

Raphael Isemann be2a4216fc [lldb] Fix SocketTest.DomainGetConnectURI on macOS by stripping more zeroes from getpeername result
Apparently macOS is padding the name result with several padding zeroes at
the end. Just strip them all to pretend it's a C-string.

The StringConvert API is no longer used anywhere but in debugserver.
Since debugserver does not use LLVM API, we cannot replace it with

Michał Górny 93b82f45bc [lldb] [Host] Refactor XML converting getters
Refactor the XML converting attribute and text getters to use LLVM API.
While at it, remove some redundant error and missing XML support
handling, as the called base functions do that anyway.  Add tests
for these methods.

Note that this patch changes the getter behavior to be IMHO more
correct.  In particular:

- negative and overflowing integers are now reported as failures to
  convert, rather than being wrapped over or capped

- digits followed by text are now reported as failures to convert
  to double, rather than their numeric part being converted

Markus Böck 0b61f43b60 [CMake] Consistently use the LibXml2::LibXml2 target instead of LIBXML2_LIBRARIES
Linking against the LibXml2::LibXml2 target has the advantage of not only importing the library, but also adding the include path as well as any definitions the library requires. In case of a static build of libxml2, eg. a define is set on Windows to remove any DLL imports and export.

LLVM already makes use of the target, but c-index-test and lldb were still linking against the library only.

The workaround for Mac OS-X that I removed seems to have also been made redundant since https://reviews.llvm.org/D84563 I believe

Pavel Labath 5685eb950d [lldb] Fix DomainSocket::GetSocketName for unnamed sockets
getpeername will return addrlen = 2 (sizeof sa_family_t) for unnamed
sockets (those not assigned a name with bind(2)). This is typically true
for client sockets as well as those created by socketpair(2).

This GetSocketName used to crash for sockets which were connected to
these kinds of sockets. Now it returns an empty string.

Update GetRegisterInfoByName() methods to support getting registers
by a generic name independently of alt_name entries in the register
context.  This makes it possible to use generic names when interacting
with gdbserver (that does not supply alt_names).  It also makes it
possible to remove some of the duplicated information from register
context declarations and/or use alt_names for another purpose.

Raphael Isemann 4f7fb13f87 [lldb] Don't save empty expressions in the multiline editor history
Right now running `expr` to start the multiline expression editor and then
pressing enter causes an empty history empty to be created for the multiline
editor. That doesn't seem very useful for users as pressing the 'up' key will
now also bring up these empty expressions.

I don't think there is ever a use case for recalling a completely empty
expression from the history, so instead don't save those entries to the history
file and make sure we never recall them when navigating over the expression
history.

Note: This is actually a Swift downstream patch that got shipped with Apple's
LLDB for many years. However, this recently started conflicting with upstream
LLDB as D100048 added a test that made sure that empty expression entries don't
crash LLDB. Apple's LLDB was never affected by this crash as it never saved
empty expressions in the first place.

Hiroki ffcf571107 [LLDB] Fix 'std::out_of_range' crashing bug when file name completion using file path.
When I run a lldb command that uses filename completion, if I enter a string
that is not only a filename but also a string with a non-file name string added,
such as "./" that is relative path string , it will crash as soon as I press the
[Tab] key. For example, debugging an executable file named "hello" that is
compiled from a file named "hello.c" , and I’ll put a breakpoint on line 3 of
hello.c.

$ lldb ./hello
(lldb) breakpoint set --file hello.c --line 3
```

This is not a problem, but if I set "--file ./hello."  and then press [Tab] key
to complete file name, lldb crashes.

$ lldb ./hello
(lldb) breakpoint set --file ./hello.terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::out_of_range'
  what():  basic_string::substr: __pos (which is 8) > this->size() (which is 7)
```

The crash was caused because substr() (in lldb/source/Host/common/Editline.cpp)
cut out string which size is user's input string from the completion string.

I modified the code that erase the user's intput string from current line and
then add the completion string.

Michał Górny 14735cab65 [lldb] [gdb-remote] Add eOpenOptionReadWrite for future gdb compat
Modify OpenOptions enum to open the future path into synchronizing
vFile:open bits with GDB.  Currently, LLDB and GDB use different flag
models effectively making it impossible to match bits.  Notably, LLDB
uses two bits to indicate read and write status, and uses union of both
for read/write.  GDB uses a value of 0 for read-only, 1 for write-only
and 2 for read/write.

In order to future-proof the code for the GDB variant:

1. Add a distinct eOpenOptionReadWrite constant to be used instead

2. Rename eOpenOptionRead and eOpenOptionWrite to eOpenOptionReadOnly

David Spickett 7d27230de3 [lldb][AArch64] Add memory tag writing to lldb-server
This is implemented using the QMemTags packet, as specified
by GDB in:
https://sourceware.org/gdb/current/onlinedocs/gdb/General-Query-Packets.html#General-Query-Packets

(recall that qMemTags was previously added to read tags)

On receipt of a valid packet lldb-server will:
* align the given address and length to granules
  (most of the time lldb will have already done this
  but the specification doesn't guarantee it)
* Repeat the supplied tags as many times as needed to cover
  the range. (if tags > range we just use as many as needed)
* Call ptrace POKEMTETAGS to write the tags.

The ptrace step will loop just like the tag read does,
until all tags are written or we get an error.
Meaning that if ptrace succeeds it could be a partial write.
So we call it again and if we then get an error, return an error to
lldb.

We are not going to attempt to restore tags after a partial
write followed by an error. This matches the behaviour of the
existing memory writes.

The lldb-server tests have been extended to include read and
write in the same test file. With some updated function names
since "qMemTags" vs "QMemTags" isn't very clear when they're
next to each other.

Raphael Isemann 355541a1b7 [lldb] Avoid using any shell when calling xcrun.
When we run `xcrun` we don't have any user input in our command so relying on
the user's default shell doesn't make a lot of sense. If the user has set the
system shell to a something that isn't supported yet (dash, ash) then we would
run into the problem that we don't know how to escape our command string.

This patch just avoids using any shell at all as xcrun is always at the same
path.

David Spickett da2e614f56 [lldb][AArch64] Add memory tag reading to lldb-server
This adds memory tag reading using the new "qMemTags"
packet and ptrace on AArch64 Linux.

This new packet is following the one used by GDB.
(https://sourceware.org/gdb/current/onlinedocs/gdb/General-Query-Packets.html)

On AArch64 Linux we use ptrace's PEEKMTETAGS to read
tags and we assume that lldb has already checked that the
memory region actually has tagging enabled.

We do not assume that lldb has expanded the requested range
to granules and expand it again to be sure.
(although lldb will be sending aligned ranges because it happens
to need them client side anyway)
Also we don't assume untagged addresses. So for AArch64 we'll
remove the top byte before using them. (the top byte includes
MTE and other non address data)

To do the ptrace read NativeProcessLinux will ask the native
register context for a memory tag manager based on the
type in the packet. This also gives you the ptrace numbers you need.
(it's called a register context but it also has non register data,
so it saves adding another per platform sub class)

The only supported platform for this is AArch64 Linux and the only
supported tag type is MTE allocation tags. Anything else will
error.

Ptrace can return a partial result but for lldb-server we will
be treating that as an error. To succeed we need to get all the tags
we expect.

(Note that the protocol leaves room for logical tags to be
read via qMemTags but this is not going to be implemented for lldb
at this time.)

Raphael Isemann 632cbcac79 [lldb] Move once_flags in HostInfoLinux so the internal state struct
The HostInfoLinuxFields struct is supposed to be set up/torn down on
Initialize/Terminate and should contain all the state of the plugin.
`once_flags` are part of this state and should also be reset on `Terminate` so
we can re-initialize these lazy values after the next `Initialize` call.

This itself is NFC as the HostInfoLinux was broken before this patch and is
still broken afterwards. D104091 will be the proper fix.

Neal (nealsid) fd89af6880 Wrap edit line configuration calls into helper functions
Currently we call el_set directly to configure the editor in the libedit
wrapper.  There are some cases in which this causes extra casting, but we pass
captureless lambdas as function pointers, which should work out of the box.
Since el_set takes varargs, if the cast is incorrect or if the cast is not
present, it causes a run time failure rather than compile error.  This change
makes it so a few different types of configuration is done inside a helper
function to provide type safety and eliminate that casting.  I didn't do all
edit line configuration because I'm not sure how important it was in other cases
and it might require something more general keep up with libedit's signature.
I'm open to suggestions, though.

Support registering multiple callbacks for a single signal.  This is
necessary to support multiple co-existing native process instances, with
separate SIGCHLD handlers.

The system signal handler is registered on first request, additional

is removed when last callback is unregistered.

The exact cause is not known yet, but since both tests deal with

Jordan Rupprecht f49a4440d3 [lldb][Editline] Fix crash when navigating through empty command history.
An empty history entry can happen by entering the expression evaluator an immediately hitting enter:

$ lldb
(lldb) e
Enter expressions, then terminate with an empty line to evaluate:
  1:  <hit enter>
```

The next time the user enters the expression evaluator, if they hit the up arrow to load the previous expression, lldb crashes. This patch treats empty history sessions as a single expression of zero length, instead of an empty list of expressions.

Pavel Labath 004a264f8c [lldb] Fix shared library directory computation on windows
Our code for locating the shared library directory works via dladdr (or
the windows equivalent) to locate the path of an address known to reside
in liblldb. This works great for C++ programs, but there's a catch.

When (lib)lldb is used from python (like in our test suite), this dladdr
call will return a path to the _lldb.so (or such) file in the python
directory. To compensate for this, we have code which attempts to
resolve this symlink, to ensure we get the canonical location. However,
here's the second catch.

On windows, this file is not a symlink (but a copy), so this logic
fails. Since most of our other paths are derived from the liblldb
location, all of these paths will be wrong, when running the test suite.
One effect of this was the failure to find lldb-server in D96202.

To fix this issue, I add some windows-specific code to locate the
liblldb directory. Since it cannot rely on symlinks, it works by
manually walking the directory tree -- essentially doing the opposite of
what we do when computing the python directory.

To avoid python leaking back into the host code, I implement this with
the help of a callback which can be passed to HostInfo::Initialize in
order to assist with the directory location. The callback lives inside
the python plugin.

I also strenghten the existing path test to ensure the returned path is
the right one.

context to be globally unique rather than relative to each struct).

Nathan Hawes ecb00a7762 [VFS] Add support to RedirectingFileSystem for mapping a virtual directory to one in the external FS.
Previously file entries in the -ivfsoverlay yaml could map to a file in the
external file system, but directories had to list their contents in the form of
other file entries or directories. Allowing directory entries to map to a
directory in the external file system makes it possible to present an external
directory's contents in a different location and (in combination with the
'fallthrough' option) overlay one directory's contents on top of another.

Nathan Hawes 719f778441 [VFS] Combine VFSFromYamlDirIterImpl and OverlayFSDirIterImpl into a single implementation (NFC)
As a fixme notes, both of these directory iterator implementations are
conceptually similar and duplicate the functionality of returning and uniquing
entries across two or more directories. This patch combines them into a single
class 'CombiningDirIterImpl'.

This also drops the 'Redirecting' prefix from RedirectingDirEntry and
RedirectingFileEntry to save horizontal space. There's no loss of clarity as
they already have to be prefixed with 'RedirectingFileSystem::' whenever
they're referenced anyway.

Muhammad Omair Javaid b69c09bf43 Support custom expedited register set in gdb-remote
This patch adds capability to introduce a custom expedited register set
in gdb remote. Currently we send register set 0 as expedited register set
but for the case of AArch64 SVE we intend to send additional information
about SVE registers size/offset configuration which can be calculated
from vg register. Therefore we will expedited Vg register in case of
AArch64 is in SVE mode to speedup register configuration calculations.

Fix process matching by name to make 'process attach -n ...' work.

The process finding code has an optimization that defers getting
the process name and executable format after the numeric (PID, UID...)
parameters are tested.  However, the ProcessInstanceInfoMatch.Matches()
method has been matching process name against the incomplete process
information as well, and effectively no process ever matched.

In order to fix this, create a copy of ProcessInstanceInfoMatch, set
it to ignore process name and se this copy for the initial match.
The same fix applies to FreeBSD and NetBSD host code.
