Jason Molenda d82ecb0ac7 LanguageRuntime can provide an UnwindPlan for special occasions
Add a facility in the LanguageRuntime to provide a special
UnwindPlan based on the register values in a RegisterContext,
instead of using the return-pc to find a function and use its
normal UnwindPlans.

Needed when the runtime has special stack frames that we want
to show the user, but aren't actually on the real stack.
Specifically for Swift asynchronous functions.

Jason Molenda fcdef15d77 Add a new Row setting to mark all un-declared regs as Undefined
Add a new state for UnwindPlan::Row which indicates that any
register not listed is not defined, and should not be found in
stack frames newer than this one and passed up the stack.  Mostly
intended for use with architectural default unwind plans that are
used for jitted stack frames, where we have no unwind information
or start address.  lldb has no way to tell if registers were
spilled in the jitted frame & overwritten, so passing register
values up the stack is not safe to show the user.

Architectural default unwind plans are also used as a fast unwind
plan on x86_64 in particular, and are used as the fallback unwind
plans when lldb thinks it may be able to work around a problem
which causes the unwinder to stop walking the stack early.

For fast unwind plans, when we don't find a register location in
the arch default unwind plan, we fall back to computing & using
the full unwind plan. One small part of this patch is to know that
a register marked as Undefined in the fast unwind plan is a special
case, and we should continue on to the full unwind plan to find what
the real unwind rule is for this register.

Dave Lee 22f0aa0d9e [lldb] Remove unused ThreadPlan tracer utilities (NFC)
Delete unused `EnableTracer()` and `SetTracer()` functions on `Thread`. By deleting
these, their `ThreadPlan` counterparts also become unused.

Then, by deleting `ThreadPlanStack::EnableTracer`, `EnableSingleStep` becomes unused.
With no more callers to `EnableSingleStep`, the value `m_single_step` is always true and
can be removed as well.

Adrian Prantl 057efa9916 Make the error condition in Value::ValueType explicit (NFC)
The comment for ValueType claims that all values <1 are errors, but
not all switch statements take this into account. This patch
introduces an explicit Error case and deletes all default: cases, so
we get warned about incomplete switch coverage.

Dave Lee a5ab1dc4ad [lldb] Add step target to ThreadPlanStepInRange constructor
`QueueThreadPlanForStepInRange` accepts a `step_into_target`, but the constructor for
`ThreadPlanStepInRange` does not. Instead, a caller would optionally call
`SetStepInTarget()` in a separate statement.

This change adds `step_into_target` as a constructor argument. This simplifies
construction of `ThreadPlanSP`, by avoiding a subsequent downcast and conditional
assignment. This constructor is already used in downstream repos.

Med Ismail Bennani 7169d3a315 [lldb/Commands] Refactor ProcessLaunchCommandOptions to use TableGen (NFC)
This patch refactors the current implementation of
`ProcessLaunchCommandOptions` to be generated by TableGen.

The patch also renames the class to `CommandOptionsProcessLaunch` to
align better with the rest of the codebase style and moves it to
separate files.

Jonas Devlieghere a913a583f0 [lldb] Simplify the is_finalized logic in process and make it thread safe.
This is a speculative fix when looking at the finalization code in
Process. It tackles the following issues:

 - Adds synchronization to prevent races between threads.
 - Marks the process as finalized/invalid as soon as Finalize is called
   rather than at the end.
 - Simplifies the code by using only a single instance variable to track
   finalization.

Pavel Labath 122a4ebde3 Revert "[lldb] Make CommandInterpreter's execution context the same as debugger's one."
This reverts commit a01b26fb51, because it
breaks the "finish" command in some way -- the command does not
terminate after it steps out, but continues running the target. The
exact blast radius is not clear, but it at least affects the usage of
the "finish" command in TestGuiBasicDebug.py. The error is *not*
gui-related, as the same issue can be reproduced by running the same
steps outside of the gui.

There is some kind of a race going on, as the test fails only 20% of the
time on the buildbot.

Tatyana Krasnukha a01b26fb51 [lldb] Make CommandInterpreter's execution context the same as debugger's one.
Currently, the interpreter's context is not updated until a command is executed.
This has resulted in the behavior of SB-interface functions and some commands
depends on previous user actions. The interpreter's context can stay uninitialized,
point to a currently selected target, or point to one of previously selected targets.

This patch removes any usages of CommandInterpreter::UpdateExecutionContext.
CommandInterpreter::HandleCommand* functions still may override context temporarily,
but now they always restore it before exiting. CommandInterpreter saves overriden
contexts to the stack, that makes nesting commands possible.

Added test reproduces one of the issues. Without this fix, the last assertion fails
because interpreter's execution context is empty until running "target list", so,
the value of the global property was updated instead of process's local instance.

Tatyana Krasnukha 2634ec6ce9 [lldb] "target create" shouldn't save target if the command failed
TargetList::CreateTarget automatically adds created target to the list, however,
CommandObjectTargetCreate does some additional preparation after creating a target
and which can fail. The command should remove created target if it failed. Since
the function has many ways to return, scope guard does this work safely.

Changes to the TargetList make target adding and selection more transparent.

Other changes remove unnecessary SetSelectedTarget after CreateTarget.

Raphael Isemann 958608285e [lldb] Allow LLDB to automatically retry a failed expression with an imported std C++ module
By now LLDB can import the 'std' C++ module to improve expression evaluation,
but there are still a few problems to solve before we can do this by default.
One is that importing the C++ module is slightly slower than normal expression
evaluation (mostly because the disk access and loading the initial lookup data
is quite slow in comparison to the barebone Clang setup the rest of the LLDB
expression evaluator is usually doing). Another problem is that some complicated
types in the standard library aren't fully supported yet by the ASTImporter, so
we end up types that fail to import (which usually appears to the user as if the
type is empty or there is just no result variable).

To still allow people to adopt this mode in their daily debugging, this patch
adds a setting that allows LLDB to automatically retry failed expression with a
loaded C++ module. All success expressions will behave exactly as they would do
before this patch. Failed expressions get a another parse attempt if we find a
usable C++ module in the current execution context. This way we shouldn't have
any performance/parsing regressions in normal debugging workflows, while the
debugging workflows involving STL containers benefit from the C++ module type
info.

This setting is off by default for now with the intention to enable it by
default on macOS soon-ish.

The implementation is mostly just extracting the existing parse logic into its
own function and then calling the parse function again if the first evaluation
failed and we have a C++ module to retry the parsing with.

Michał Górny 18e4272a4f [lldb] Prevent 'process connect' from using local-only plugins
Add a 'can_connect' parameter to Process plugin initialization, and use
it to filter plugins to these capable of remote connections.  This is
used to prevent 'process connect' from picking up a plugin that can only
be used locally, e.g. the legacy FreeBSD plugin.

David Spickett 32541685b2 [lldb][AArch64/Linux] Show memory tagged memory regions
This extends the "memory region" command to
show tagged regions on AArch64 Linux when the MTE
extension is enabled.

(lldb) memory region the_page
[0x0000fffff7ff8000-0x0000fffff7ff9000) rw-
memory tagging: enabled

This is done by adding an optional "flags" field to
the qMemoryRegion packet. The only supported flag is
"mt" but this can be extended.

This "mt" flag is read from /proc/{pid}/smaps on Linux,
other platforms will leave out the "flags" field.

Where this "mt" flag is received "memory region" will
show that it is enabled. If it is not or the target
doesn't support memory tagging, the line is not shown.
(since majority of the time tagging will not be enabled)

Testing is added for the existing /proc/{pid}/maps
parsing and the new smaps parsing.
Minidump parsing has been updated where needed,
though it only uses maps not smaps.

Target specific tests can be run with QEMU and I have
added MTE flags to the existing helper scripts.

Walter Erquinigo fb19f11ef4 [trace][intel-pt] Scaffold the 'thread trace start | stop' commands
Depends on D90490.

The stop command is simple and invokes the new method Trace::StopTracingThread(thread).

On the other hand, the start command works by delegating its implementation to a CommandObject provided by the Trace plugin. This is necessary because each trace plugin needs different options for this command. There's even the chance that a Trace plugin can't support live tracing, but instead supports offline decoding and analysis, which means that "thread trace dump instructions" works but "thread trace start" doest. Because of this and a few other reasons, it's better to have each plugin provide this implementation.

Besides, I'm using the GetSupportedTraceType method introduced in D90490 to quickly infer what's the trace plug-in that works for the current process.

As an implementation note, I moved CommandObjectIterateOverThreads to its header so that I can use it from the IntelPT plugin. Besides, the actual start and stop logic for intel-pt is not part of this diff.

Raphael Isemann ccd9091d4a [lldb][NFC] Don't let Process inherit from UserID
I noticed that Process is inheriting from UserID to store its PID value. This patch
replaces this with a dedicated field in the Process class. This is NFC, but has some
small effects on the code using Process:
* `GetID()` now returns a `lldb::pid_t` like all other process code instead of `lldb::user_id_t`. Both are typedefs for `uint64_t`, so no change in behaviour.
* The equality operators defined for UserID no longer accept Process instances.
* Removes the inherited method `Process::Clear()` which didn't actually clear anything beside the PID value.

We maybe should also remove the getters/setters to `S/GetPID` or something like that. I can update all the code for that
in a follow-up NFC commit.

Jim Ingham 5a4b2e1541 The AssertRecognizer used the module from a frames SC without checking it was non-null.
I only have a crash report for this.  I could reproduce it with a slightly older
lldb by running an expression that called pthread_kill, but we started making modules
for our expression JIT code, so that no longer triggers the bug.  I can't think of another
good way to test it but the fix is obvious.

Walter Erquinigo cfd96f057b [trace][intel-pt] Implement the basic decoding functionality
Depends on D89408.

This diff finally implements trace decoding!

The current interface is

  $ trace load /path/to/trace/session/file.json
  $ thread trace dump instructions

  thread #1: tid = 3842849, total instructions = 22
    [ 0] 0x40052d
    [ 1] 0x40052d
    ...
    [19] 0x400521

  $ # simply enter, which is a repeat command
    [20] 0x40052d
    [21] 0x400529
    ...

This doesn't do any disassembly, which will be done in the next diff.

Changes:
- Added an IntelPTDecoder class, that is a wrapper for libipt, which is the actual library that performs the decoding.
- Added TraceThreadDecoder class that decodes traces and memoizes the result to avoid repeating the decoding step.
- Added a DecodedThread class, which represents the output from decoding and that for the time being only stores the list of reconstructed instructions. Later it'll contain the function call hierarchy, which will enable reconstructing backtraces.
- Added basic APIs for accessing the trace in Trace.h:
  - GetInstructionCount, which counts the number of instructions traced for a given thread
  - IsTraceFailed, which returns an Error if decoding a thread failed
  - ForEachInstruction, which iterates on the instructions traced for a given thread, concealing the internal storage of threads, as plug-ins can decide to generate the instructions on the fly or to store them all in a vector, like I do.
- DumpTraceInstructions was updated to print the instructions or show an error message if decoding was impossible.
- Tests included

Vedant Kumar 65d15fefe3 [TargetList] Delete the destructor
AFAICT, ~TargetList simply implements the default destructor, plus some
locking.

The history is murky, so I'm not sure why we do this locking. Perhaps,
at some point, it was possible to delete the same TargetList instance
from two different threads, setting up a race. If that were true, then
the locking would protect against the race.

Since TargetList is uniquely owned by Debugger (m_target_list), no such
race is possible today.

Pavel Labath 5d64574301 [lldb] Delete Value::Vector class
This class and it's surroundings contain a lot of shady code, but as far
as I can tell all of that code is unreachable (there is no code actually
setting the value to eValueTypeVector).

According to history this class was introduced in 2012 in
r167033/0665a0f09. At that time, the code seemed to serve some purpose,
and it had two entry points (in Value::SetContext and
ClangExpressionDeclMap::LookupDecl). The first entry point was deleted
in D17897 and the second one in r179842/44342735.

The stated purpose of the patch introducing this class was to fix
TestRegisters.py, and "expr $xmm0" in particular. Both of these things
function perfectly well these days without this class.

Joseph Tremoulet 61bfc703c3 [lldb] GetSharedModule: Collect old modules in SmallVector
The various GetSharedModule methods have an optional out parameter for
the old module when a file has changed or been replaced, which the
Target uses to keep its module list current/correct.  We've been using
a single ModuleSP to track "the" old module, and this change switches
to using a SmallVector of ModuleSP, which has a couple benefits:
 - There are multiple codepaths which may discover an old module, and
   this centralizes the code for how to handle multiples in one place,
   in the Target code.  With the single ModuleSP, each place that may
   discover an old module is responsible for how it handles multiples,
   and the current code is inconsistent (some code paths drop the first
   old module, others drop the second).
 - The API will be more natural for identifying old modules in routines
   that work on sets, like ModuleList::ReplaceEquivalent (which I plan
   on updating to report old module(s) in a subsequent change to fix a
   bug).

I'm not convinced we can ever actually run into the case that multiple
old modules are found in the same GetOrCreateModule call, but I think
this change makes sense regardless, in light of the above.

When an old module is reported, Target::GetOrCreateModule calls
m_images.ReplaceModule, which doesn't allow multiple "old" modules; the
new code calls ReplaceModule for the first "old" module, and for any
subsequent old modules it logs the event and calls m_images.Remove.

Jim Ingham a37672e2db Mark the execution of stop-hooks as non-interactive.
The intention is not to allow stop-hook commands to query the
user, so this is correct.  It also works around a deadlock in
switching to the Python Session to execute python based commands
in the stop hook when the Debugger stdin is backed by a FILE *.

Jonas Devlieghere de346cf2ac [lldb] Redesign Target::GetUtilityFunctionForLanguage API
This patch redesigns the Target::GetUtilityFunctionForLanguage API:

 - Use a unique_ptr instead of a raw pointer for the return type.
 - Wrap the result in an llvm::Expected instead of using a Status object as an I/O parameter.
 - Combine the action of "getting" and "installing" the UtilityFunction as they always get called together.
 - Pass std::strings instead of const char* and std::move them where appropriate.

There's more room for improvement but I think this tackles the most
prevalent issues with the current API.

Jonas Devlieghere 826997c462 [lldb] Fix a regression introduced by D75730
In a new Range class was introduced to simplify and the Disassembler API
and reduce duplication. It unintentionally broke the
SBFrame::Disassemble functionality because it unconditionally converts
the number of instructions to a Range{Limit::Instructions,
num_instructions}. This is subtly different from the previous behavior,
where now we're passing a Range and assume it's valid in the callee, the
original code would propagate num_instructions and the callee would
compare the value and decided between disassembling instructions or
bytes.

Unfortunately the existing tests was not particularly strict:

  disassembly = frame.Disassemble()
  self.assertNotEqual(len(disassembly), 0, "Disassembly was empty.")

This would pass because without this patch we'd disassemble zero
instructions, resulting in an error:

  (lldb) script print(lldb.frame.Disassemble())
  error: error reading data from section __text

Walter Erquinigo 8a203bb22d [trace] rename ThreadIntelPT into TraceTrace
Renamed ThreadIntelPT to TreaceThread, making it a top-level class. I noticed that this class can and shuld work for any trace plugin and there's nothing intel-pt specific in it.
With that TraceThread change, I was able to move most of the json file parsing logic to the base class TraceSessionFileParser, which makes adding new plug-ins easier.

Raphael Isemann 02114e15da [lldb] Allow limiting the number of error diagnostics when parsing an expression
While debugging another bug I found out that we currently don't set any limit
for the number of diagnostics Clang emits. If a user does something that
generates a lot of errors (like including some long header file from within the
expression function), then we currently spam the LLDB output with potentially
thousands of Clang error diagnostics.

Clang sets a default limit of 20 errors, but given that LLDB is often used
interactively for small expressions I would say a limit of 5 is enough. The
limit is implemented as a setting, so if a user cares about seeing having a
million errors printed to their terminal then they can just increase the
settings value.

Raphael Isemann 24e07570cc [lldb] Remove all the RegisterInfo name constification code
RegisterInfo's `reg_name`/`reg_alt_name` fields are C-Strings and are supposed
to only be generated from a ConstString. The reason for that is that
`DynamicRegisterInfo::GetRegisterInfo` and
`RegInfoBasedABI::GetRegisterInfoByName` try to optimise finding registers by
name by only comparing the C string pointer values instead of the underlying
strings. This only works if both C strings involved in the comparison come from
a ConstString. If one of the two C strings doesn't come from a ConstString the
comparison won't work (and most likely will silently fail).

I added an assert in b0060c3a78 which checks that
both strings come from a ConstString. Apparently not all ABI plugins are
generating their register names via ConstString, so this code is now not just
silently failing but also asserting.

In D88375 we did a shady fix for the MIPS plugins by just copying the
ConstString setup code to that plugin, but we still need to fix ABISysV_arc,
ABISysV_ppc and ABISysV_ppc64 plugins.

I would say we just fix the remaining plugins by removing the whole requirement
to have the register names coming from ConstStrings. I really doubt that we
actually save any time with the whole ConstString search trick (searching ~50
strings that have <4 characters doesn't sound more expensive than calling the
really expensive ConstString constructor + comparing the same amount of pointer
values). Also whatever small percentage of LLDB's runtime is actually spend in
this function is anyway not worth the complexity of this approach.

This patch just removes all this and just does a normal string comparison.

This is the first step in implementing the "instructions" dumping command.

It includes:

- A minimal ProcessTrace plugin for representing processes from a trace file. I noticed that it was a required step to mimic how core-based processes are initialized, e.g. ProcessElfCore and ProcessMinidump. I haven't had the need to create ThreadTrace yet, though. So far HistoryThread seems good enough.
- The command handling itself in CommandObjectThread, which outputs a placeholder text instead of the actual instructions. I'll do that part in the next diff.

Walter Erquinigo ea1f49741e [intel pt] Refactor parsing
With the feedback I was getting in different diffs, I realized that splitting the parsing logic into two classes was not easy to deal with. I do see value in doing that, but I'd rather leave that as a refactor after most of the intel-pt logic is in place. Thus, I'm merging the common parser into the intel pt one, having thus only one that is fully aware of Intel PT during parsing and object creation.

Besides, based on the feedback in https://reviews.llvm.org/D88769, I'm creating a ThreadIntelPT class that will be able to orchestrate decoding of its own trace and can handle the stop events correctly.

This leaves the TraceIntelPT class as an initialization class that glues together different components. Right now it can initialize a trace session from a json file, and in the future will be able to initialize a trace session from a live process.

Besides, I'm renaming SettingsParser to SessionParser, which I think is a better name, as the json object represents a trace session of possibly many processes.

With the current set of targets, we have the following

- Trace: main interface for dealing with trace sessions
- TraceIntelPT: plugin Trace for dealing with intel pt sessions
- TraceIntelPTSessionParser: a parser of a json trace session file that can create a corresponding TraceIntelPT instance along with Targets, ProcessTraces (to be created in https://reviews.llvm.org/D88769), and ThreadIntelPT threads.
- ProcessTrace: (to be created in https://reviews.llvm.org/D88769) can handle the correct state of the traces as the user traverses the trace. I don't think there'll be a need an intel-pt specific implementation of this class.
- ThreadIntelPT: a thread implementation that can handle the decoding of its own trace file, along with keeping track of the current position the user is looking at when doing reverse debugging.

Pavel Labath 0610a25a85 [lldb] Delete copy operations on PluginInterface class
This is a polymorphic class, copying it is a bad idea.

This was not a problem because most classes inheriting from it were
deleting their copy operations themselves. However, this enables us to
delete those explicit deletions, and ensure noone forgets to add them in
the future.

Jim Ingham a68ffb19d3 Change the default handling of SIGCONT to nosuppress/nostop/notify
Except for the few people actually debugging shells, stopping on a
SIGCONT doesn't add any value.  And for people trying to run tests
under the debugger, stopping here is actively inconvenient.  So this
patch switches the default behavior to not stop.

Jim Ingham be66987e20 Fix raciness in the StopHook check for "has the target run".
This was looking at the privateState, but it's possible that
the actual process has started up and then stopped again by the
time we get to the check, which would lead us to get out of running
the stop hooks too early.

Instead we need to track the intention of the stop hooks directly.

Walter Erquinigo bddebca61e [intel-pt] Refactor the JSON parsing
Recently https://reviews.llvm.org/D88103 introduced a nice API for
converting a JSON object into C++ types, which include nice error
messaging.

I'm using that new functioniality to perform the parsing in a much more
elegant way. As a result, the code looks simpler and more maintainable,
as we aren't parsing anymore individual fields manually.

I updated the test cases accordingly.

Joseph Tremoulet 20f84257ac [lldb] Fix GetRemoteSharedModule fallback logic
When the various methods of locating the module in GetRemoteSharedModule
fail, make sure we pass the original module spec to the bail-out call to
the provided resolver function.

Also make sure we consistently use the resolved module spec from the
various success paths.

Thanks to what appears to have been an accidentally inverted condition
(commit 85967fa applied the new condition to a path where GetModuleSpec
returns false, but should have applied it when GetModuleSpec returns
true), without this fix we only pass the original module spec in the
fallback if the original spec has no uuid (or has a uuid that somehow
matches the resolved module's uuid despite the call to GetModuleSpec
failing).  This manifested as a bug when processing a minidump file with
a user-provided sysroot, since in that case the resolver call was being
applied to resolved_module_spec (despite resolution failing), which did
not have the path of its file_spec set.

Walter Erquinigo 74c93956e1 Add a "Trace" plug-in to LLDB to add process trace support in stages.
This is the first in a series of patches that will adds a new processor trace plug-in to LLDB.

The idea for this first patch to to add the plug-in interface with simple commands for the trace files that can "load" and "dump" the trace information. We can test the functionality and ensure people are happy with the way things are done and how things are organized before moving on to adding more functionality.

Processor trace information can be view in a few different ways:
- post mortem where a trace is saved off that can be viewed later in the debugger
- gathered while a process is running and allow the user to step back in time (with no variables, memory or registers) to see how each thread arrived at where it is currently stopped.

This patch attempts to start with the first solution of loading a trace file after the fact. The idea is that we will use a JSON file to load the trace information. JSON allows us to specify information about the trace like:
- plug-in name in LLDB
- path to trace file
- shared library load information so we can re-create a target and symbolicate the information in the trace
- any other info that the trace plug-in will need to be able to successfully parse the trace information
  - cpu type
  - version info
  - ???

A new "trace" command was added at the top level of the LLDB commmands:
- "trace load"
- "trace dump"

I did this because if we load trace information we don't need to have a process and we might end up creating a new target for the trace information that will become active. If anyone has any input on where this would be better suited, please let me know. Walter Erquinigo will end up filling in the Intel PT specific plug-in so that it works and is tested once we can agree that the direction of this patch is the correct one, so please feel free to chime in with ideas on comments!

Med Ismail Bennani addb5148f5 [lldb/Target] Add custom interpreter option to `platform shell`
This patch adds the ability to use a custom interpreter with the
`platform shell` command. If the user set the `-s|--shell` option
with the path to a binary, lldb passes it down to the platform's
`RunShellProcess` method and set it as the shell to use in
`ProcessLaunchInfo to run commands.

Note that not all the Platforms support running shell commands with
custom interpreters (i.e. RemoteGDBServer is only expected to use the
default shell).

This patch also makes some refactoring and cleanups, like swapping
CString for StringRef when possible and updating `SBPlatformShellCommand`
with new methods and a new constructor.

Dimitry Andric 1ce07cd614 Instantiate Error in Target::GetEntryPointAddress() only when necessary
When `Target::GetEntryPointAddress()` calls `exe_module->GetObjectFile()->GetEntryPointAddress()`, and the returned
`entry_addr` is valid, it can immediately be returned.

However, just before that, an `llvm::Error` value has been setup, but in this case it is not consumed before returning, like is done further below in the function.

In https://bugs.freebsd.org/248745 we got a bug report for this, where a very simple test case aborts and dumps core:

Jonas Devlieghere 249a1d4f1b [lldb] Add an option to inherit TCC permissions from parent.
Add an option that allows the user to decide to not make the inferior is
responsible for its own TCC permissions. If you don't make the inferior
responsible, it inherits the permissions of its parent. The motivation
is the scenario of running the LLDB test suite from an external hard
drive. If the inferior is responsible, every test needs to be granted
access to the external volume. When the permissions are inherited,
approval needs to be granted only once.

Ted Woodward 3169d920cc Remove special Hexagon packet traversal code
On Hexagon, breakpoints need to be on the first instruction of a packet.
When the LLVM disassembler for Hexagon returned 32 bit instructions, we
needed code to find the start of the current packet. Now that the LLVM
disassembler for Hexagon returns packets instead of instructions, we always
have the first instruction of the packet. Remove the packet traversal code
because it can cause problems when the next packet has more than one
instruction.

Jonas Devlieghere 4add853647 [lldb] Improve platform handling in CreateTargetInternal
Currently, `target create` has no --platform option. However,
TargetList::CreateTargetInternal which is called under the hood, will
return an error when either no platform or multiple matching platforms
are found, saying that a platform should be specified with --platform.

This patch adds the platform option, but that doesn't solve either of
these errors.

 - If more than one platform matches, specifying the platform isn't
   going to fix that. The current code will only look at the
   architecture instead. I've updated the error message to ask the user
   to specify an architecture.

 - If no architecture is found, specifying a new one via platform isn't
   going to change that either because we already try to find one that
   matches the given architecture.

When a process is notified that modules got loaded, currently only
existing language runtimes are given a chance to deal with that. This
means that if the runtime for a given language wasn't needed before it
won't be informed of the module chance.

This is wrong because the module change might be what triggers the need
for a certain runtime. Instead, we should give the language runtime for
every supported language a chance to deal with the modified modules.

Raphael Isemann 5477fbc294 [lldb] Make deleting frame recognizers actually work
Summary:

Frame recognizers are stored alongside a flag that indicates whether they were
deleted by the user. If the flag is set, they are supposed to be ignored by the
rest of the frame recognizer code. 'frame recognizer delete' is supposed to set
that flag. 'frame recognizer clear' however actually deletes all frame
recognizers (so, it doesn't set the flag but directly deletes them from the
list).

The current implementation of this concept is pretty broken. `frame recognizer
delete` sets the flag, but it somehow thinks that the recognizer id is an index
in the recognizer list. That's not true as it's actually just a member of each
recognizer entry. So it actually just sets the `deleted` flag for a random other
recognizer. The tests for the recognizer still pass as `frame recognizer list`
is also broken and just completely ignored the `deleted` flag and lists all
recognizers. Also `frame recognizer delete` just ignores if it can't actually
delete a recognizer if the id is invalid.

I think we can simplify this whole thing by just actually deleting recognizers
instead of making sure all code is actually respecting the `deleted` flag. I
assume the intention of this was to make sure that all recognizers are getting
unique ids over the course of an LLDB session, but as `clear` is actually
deleting them and we keep recycling ids, that didn't really work to begin with.

This patch deletes the `deleted` flag and just actually deletes the stored
recognizer. Also adds the missing error message in case it find a recognizer
with a given id.

Raphael Isemann 1b7c9eae6d [lldb] Store StackFrameRecognizers in the target instead of a global list
Summary:

Currently the frame recognizers are stored in a global list (the list in the
StackFrameRecognizersManagerImpl singleton to be precise). All commands and
plugins that modify the list are just modifying that global list of recognizers
which is shared by all Target and Debugger instances.

This is clearly against the idea of LLDB being usable as a library and it also
leads to some very obscure errors as now multiple tests are sharing the used
frame recognizers. For example D83400 is currently failing as it reorders some
test_ functions which permanently changes the frame recognizers of all
debuggers/targets. As all frame recognizers are also initialized in a 'once'
guard, it's also impossible to every restore back the original frame recognizers
once they are deleted in a process.

This patch just moves the frame recognizers into the current target. This seems
the way everyone assumes the system works as for example the assert frame
recognizers is using the current target to find the function/so-name to look for
(which only works if the recognizers are stored in the target).

Jonas Devlieghere 706cccb889 [lldb] Make `process connect` blocking in synchronous mode.
In synchronous mode, the process connect command and its aliases should
wait for the stop event before claiming the command is complete.
Currently, the stop event is always handled asynchronously by the
debugger.

The implementation takes the same approach as Process::ResumeSynchronous
which hijacks the event and handles it on the current thread. Similarly,
after this patch, the stop event is part of the command return object,
which is the property used by the test case.

This patch aims to remove multiple copies of GetByteOrder() and ConvertRegisterKindToRegisterNumber used in various versions of RegisterContextPOSIX_*.

Both register implementations are move to RegisterContext class which is parent of RegisterContextPOSIX_* classes.

Built and tested on x86_64-linux-gnu, aarch64-linux-gnu and arm-linux-gnueabihf targets.

Ilya Bukonkin 3b43f00629 [lldb] Check if thread was suspended during previous stop added.
Encountered the following situation: Let we started thread T1 and it hit
breakpoint on B1 location. We suspended T1 and continued the process.
Then we started thread T2 which hit for example the same location B1.
This time in a breakpoint callback we decided not to stop returning
false.

Expected result: process continues (as if T2 did not hit breakpoint) its
workflow with T1 still suspended. Actual result: process do stops (as if
T2 callback returned true).

Solution: We need invalidate StopInfo for threads that was previously
suspended just because something that is already inactive can not be the
reason of stop. Thread::GetPrivateStopInfo() may be appropriate place to
do it, because it gets called (through Thread::GetStopInfo()) every time
before process reports stop and user gets chance to change
m_resume_state again i.e if we see m_resume_state == eStateSuspended
it definitely means it was set during previous stop and it also means
this thread can not be stopped again (cos' it was frozen during
previous stop).

Pavel Labath 0081149f96 [lldb/DWARF] Fix PC value for artificial tail call frames for the "GNU" case
Summary:
The way that the support for the GNU dialect of tail call frames was
implemented in D80519 meant that the were reporting very bogus PC values
which pointed into the middle of an instruction: the -1 trick is
necessary for the address to resolve to the right function, but we
should still be reporting a more realistic PC value -- I say "realistic"
and not "real", because it's very debatable what should be the correct
PC value for frames like this.

This patch achieves that my moving the -1 from SymbolFileDWARF into the
stack frame computation code. The idea is that SymbolFileDWARF will
merely report whether it has provided an address of the instruction
after the tail call, or the address of the call instruction itself. The
StackFrameList machinery uses this information to set the "behaves like
frame zero" property of the artificial frames (the main thing this flag
does is it controls the -1 subtraction when looking up the function
address).

This required a moderate refactor of the CallEdge class, because it was
implicitly assuming that edges pointing after the call were real calls
and those pointing the the call insn were tail calls. The class now
carries this information explicitly -- it carries three mostly
independent pieces of information:
- an address of interest in the caller
- a bit saying whether this address points to the call insn or after it
- whether this is a tail call

Adrian Prantl 220c17ffd4 Print a warning when stopped in a frame LLDB has no plugin for.
This patchs adds an optional warning that is printed when stopped at a
frame that was compiled in a source language that LLDB has no plugin
for.

The motivational use-case is debugging Swift code on Linux. When the
user accidentally invokes the system LLDB that was built without the
Swift plugin, it is very much non-obvious why debugging doesnt
work. This warning makes it easy to figure out what went wrong.

Levon Ter-Grigoryan 631048e811 Moving executable module symbols parsing to target creation method.
Summary:
In our project we are using remote client-server LLDB configuration.
We want to parse as much debugging symbols as we can before debugger starts attachment to the remote process.
To do that we are passing the path of the local executable module to CreateTarget method at the client.
But, it seems that this method are not parsing the executable module symbols.
To fix this I added PreloadSymbols call for executable module to target creation method.

This patch also fixes a problem where the DynamicLoader would reset a
module when launching the target. We fix it by making sure
Platform::ResolveExecutable returns the module object obtained from the
remote platform.

Pavel Labath e072b20bde [lldb] Merge PlatformXXX::ResolveExecutable
The near-identical implementations of this function for posix-y
platforms were merged in r293910. PlatformWindows was left out of this
merge because at the time we did not have a suitable base class to sink
the code into. That is no longer true, so this commit finishes the job
by moving the code into RemoteAwarePlatform::ResolveExecutable.

Jaroslav Sevcik cf5ed6dc59 Fix error handling after [<index>] in 'frame variable'
Summary:
This fixes a bug where

frame var a[0]+5

returns the value a[0] without any warning because the current logic simply ignores everything after ']' as long as there is no '.', '-' or '[' in the rest of the string.

The fix simplifies the termination condition of the expression path parsing loop to check if have a non-empty remaining string to parse. Previously, the condition checked if a separator was found. That condition coincided with the remaining string-to-parse condition except for the buggy indexed case where non-empty string was left ("+5" in the example above), but the separator index was 'npos'.

Vedant Kumar a37caebc2d [lldb/DataFormatters] Delete GetStringPrinterEscapingHelper
Summary:
Languages can have different ways of formatting special characters.
E.g. when debugging C++ code a string might look like "\b", but when
debugging Swift code the same string would look like "\u{8}".

To make this work, plugins override GetStringPrinterEscapingHelper.
However, because there's a large amount of subtly divergent work done in
each override, we end up with large amounts of duplicated code. And all
the memory smashers fixed in one copy of the logic (see D73860) don't
get fixed in the others.

IMO the GetStringPrinterEscapingHelper is overly general and hard to
use. I propose deleting it and replacing it with an EscapeStyle enum,
which can be set as needed by each plugin.

A fix for some swift-lldb memory smashers falls out fairly naturally
from this deletion (https://github.com/apple/llvm-project/pull/1046). As
the swift logic becomes really tiny, I propose moving it upstream as
part of this change. I've added unit tests to cover it.

Jonas Devlieghere 1fcd234ac5 [lldb/Core] Don't crash in GetSoftwareBreakpointTrapOpcode for unknown triples
This patch ensures we don't crash in GetSoftwareBreakpointTrapOpcode for
not-yet-supported architectures but rather continue with degraded
behavior.

I found the issue in the context of an invalid ArchSpec, which should be
handled further up the chain. In this patch I've also added an assert to
cover that, so we can still catch those issues.

Avoid a race between the Disconnect call in `Communication::ReadThread`
and the one in `Process::ShouldBroadcastEvent` by reordering the calls
to Disconnect and StopReadThread in `Process::ShouldBroadcastEvent`.

In D77295 Pavel suggested that that might explain the broken pipe I was
seeing. Indeed, changing the order resolved the issue.

Yuri Per 6afa5c407c [lldb] Prefer executable files from sysroot over files from local filesystem
Summary:
In D49685 sysroot behaviour was partially fixed. But files from local filesystem with same path still has priority over files from sysroot.

This patch fixes it by removing fallback to local filesystem from RemoteAwarePlatform::GetModuleSpec(). It is not actually required because higher level code do such fallback itself. See, for example, resolver in Platform::GetSharedModule().

Saleem Abdulrasool 3775be2d8e Target: correct the return value for `GetImageAddrFromToken`
We would return `LLDB_INVALID_IMAGE_TOKEN` for the address rather than
the correct value of `LLDB_IMAGE_ADDRESS`.  This would result in the
check for the return value to silently pass on x64 as the invalid
address and invalid token are of different sizes (`size_t` vs
`uintprr_t`).  This corrects the return value to `LLDB_INVALID_ADDRESS`
and addresses the rest to reset the mapped address to the invalid value.

This was found by inspection when trying to implement module support for
Windows.

Raphael Isemann 203a8adb65 [lldb] Add option to retry Fix-Its multiple times to failed expressions
Summary:
Usually when Clang emits an error Fix-It it does two things. It emits the diagnostic and then it fixes the
currently generated AST to reflect the applied Fix-It. While emitting the diagnostic is easy to implement,
fixing the currently generated AST is often tricky. That causes that some Fix-Its just keep the AST as-is or
abort the parsing process entirely. Once the parser stopped, any Fix-Its for the rest of the expression are
not detected and when the user manually applies the Fix-It, the next expression will just produce a new
Fix-It.

This is often occurring with quickly made Fix-Its that are just used to bridge temporary API changes
and that often are not worth implementing a proper API fixup in addition to the diagnostic. To still
give some kind of reasonable user-experience for users that have these Fix-Its and rely on them to
fix their expressions, this patch adds the ability to retry parsing with applied Fix-Its multiple time to
give the normal Fix-It experience where things Clang knows how to fix are not causing actual expression
error (at least when automatically applying Fix-Its is activated).

The way this is implemented is just by having another setting in the expression options that specify how
often we should try applying Fix-Its and then reparse the expression. The default setting is still 1 for everyone
so this should not affect the speed in which we fail to parse expressions.

Jim Ingham 1893065d7b Allow the ThreadPlanStackMap to hold the thread plans for threads
that were not reported by the OS plugin.  To facilitate this, move
adding/updating the ThreadPlans for a Thread to the ThreadPlanStackMap.
Also move dumping thread plans there as well.

Added some tests for "thread plan list" and "thread plan discard" since
I didn't seem to have written any originally.

Vedant Kumar 03e29e2c19 [lldb/DWARF] Reland: Use DW_AT_call_pc to determine artificial frame address
Reland with changes: the test modified in this change originally failed
on a Debian/x86_64 builder, and I suspect the cause was that lldb looked
up the line location for an artificial frame by subtracting 1 from the
frame's address. For artificial frames, the subtraction must not happen
because the address is already exact.

lldb currently guesses the address to use when creating an artificial
frame (i.e., a frame constructed by determining the sequence of (tail)
calls which must have happened).

Guessing the address creates problems -- use the actual address provided
by the DW_AT_call_pc attribute instead.

Jim Ingham 67d67ebe8f Internal expressions shouldn't increment the result variable numbering.
There an option: EvaluateExpressionOptions::SetResultIsInternal to indicate
whether the result number should be returned to the pool or not.  It
got broken when the PersistentExpressionState was refactored.

This fixes the issue and provides a test of the behavior.

Fred Riss b4a6e63ea1 [lldb/Target] Rework the way the inferior environment is created
Summary:
The interactions between the environment settings (`target.env-vars`,
`target.inherit-env`) and the inferior life-cycle are non-obvious
today. For example, if `target.inherit-env` is set, the `target.env-vars`
setting will be augmented with the contents of the host environment
the first time the launch environment is queried (usually at
launch). After that point, toggling `target.inherit-env` will have no
effect as there's no tracking of what comes from the host and what is
a user setting.

This patch computes the environment every time it is queried rather
than updating the contents of the `target.env-vars` property. This
means that toggling the `target.inherit-env` property later will now
have the intended effect.

This patch also adds a `target.unset-env-vars` settings that one can
use to remove variables from the launch environment. Using this, you
can inherit all but a few of the host environment.

The way the launch environment is constructed is:
  1/ if `target.inherit-env` is set, then read the host environment
  into the launch environment.
  2/ Remove for the environment the variables listed in
  `target.unset-env`.
  3/ Augment the launch environment with the contents of
  `target.env-vars`. This overrides any common values with the host
  environment.

The one functional difference here that could be seen as a regression
is that `target.env-vars` will not contain the inferior environment
after launch. The patch implements a better alternative in the
`target show-launch-environment` command which will return the
environment computed through the above rules.

Fred Riss 9228a9efc6 [lldb/Target] Initialize new targets environment variables from target.env-vars
Summary:
The TargetProperties constructor invokes a series of callbacks to
prime the properties from the default ones. The one callback in
charge of updating the inferior environment was commented out
because it crashed.

The reason for the crash is that TargetProperties is a parent class
of Target and the callbacks were invoked using a Target that was
not fully initialized. This patch moves the initial callback
invocations to a separate function that can be called at the end
the Target constructor, thus preventing the crash.

One existing test had to be modified, because the initialization of
the environment properties now take place at the time the target is
created, not at the first use of the environment (usually launch
time).

The added test checks that the LaunchInfo object returned by
the target has been primed with the values from the settings.

Jonas Devlieghere 09c8845adf [lldb]/Tablegen] Use ElementType instead of DefaultValueUnsinged
The fourth field in the property struct is the default unsigned or enum
value for all types, except for Array and Dictionary types. For those,
it is the element type. During the tablegen conversion, this was
incorrectly translated to DefaultValueUnsigned with a value
corresponding to the OptionValue: enum type. So for
OptionValue::eTypeString this became DefaultUnsignedValue<16>. This
patch extends the tablegen backend to understand ElementType to express
this as ElementType<"String">.

Jaroslav Sevcik 089cfe113d Improve step over performance
Summary:
This patch improves step over performance for the case when we are
stepping over a call with a next-branch-breakpoint (see
https://reviews.llvm.org/D58678), and we encounter a stop during the
call. Currently, this causes the thread plan to step-out //each frame//
until it reaches the step-over range. This is a regression introduced by
https://reviews.llvm.org/D58678 (which did improve other things!). Prior
to that change, the step-over plan would always step-out just once.

With this patch, if we find ourselves stopped in a deeper stack frame
and we already have a next branch breakpoint, we simply return from the
step-over plan's ShouldStop handler without pushing the step out plan.

In my experiments this improved the time of stepping over a call that
loads 12 dlls from 14s to 5s. This was in remote debugging scenario with
10ms RTT, the call in question was Vulkan initialization
(vkCreateInstance), which loads various driver dlls. Loading those dlls
must stop on the rendezvous breakpoint, causing the perf problem
described above.

[lldb/Target] Support more than 2 symbols in StackFrameRecognizer
This patch changes the way the StackFrame Recognizers match a certain
frame.

Until now, recognizers could be registered with a function
name but also an alternate symbol.
This change is motivated by a test failure for the Assert frame
recognizer on Linux. Depending the version of the libc, the abort
function (triggered by an assertion), could have more than two
signatures (i.e. `raise`, `__GI_raise` and `gsignal`).

Instead of only checking the default symbol name and the alternate one,
lldb will iterate over a list of symbols to match against.

I believe the actual opcode does not matter because the AVR architecture
is a Harvard architecture that does not support writing to program

Tatyana Krasnukha 0a840ef800 [lldb] Copy m_behaves_like_zeroth_frame on stack frame update
Fix to code from https://reviews.llvm.org/D64993.

Field StackFrame::m_behaves_like_zeroth_frame was introduced in commit
[1], however that commit hasn't added a copying of the field to
UpdatePreviousFrameFromCurrentFrame, therefore the value wouldn't change
when updating frames to reflect the current situation.

The particular scenario, where this matters is following. Assume we have
function main that invokes function func1. We set breakpoint at
func1 entry and in main after the func1 call, and do not stop at
the main entry. Therefore, when debugger stops for the first time,
func1 is frame#0, while main is frame#1, thus
m_behaves_like_zeroth_frame is set to 0 for main frame. Execution is
resumed, and stops now in main, where it is now frame#0. However while
updating the frame object, m_behaves_like_zeroth_frame remains false.
This field plays an important role when calculating line information for
backtrace: for frame#0, PC is the current line, therefore line
information is retrieved for PC, however for all other frames this is
not the case - calculated PC is a return-PC, i.e. instruction after the
function call line, therefore for those frames LLDB needs to step back
by one instruction. Initial implementation did this strictly for frames
that have index != 0 (and index is updated properly in
UpdatePreviousFrameFromCurrentFrame), but m_behaves_like_zeroth_frame
added a capability for middle-of-stack frames to behave in a similar
manner. But because current code now doesn't check frame idx,
m_behaves_like_zeroth_frame must be set to true for frames with 0 index,
not only for frame that behave like one. In the described test case,
after stopping in main, LLDB would still consider frame#0 as
non-zeroth, and would subtract instruction from the PC, and would report
previous like as current line.

The error doesn't manifest itself in LLDB interpreter though - it can be
reproduced through LLDB-MI and when using SB API, but not when we
interpreter command "continue" is executed. Honestly, I didn't fully
understand why it works in interpreter, I did found that bug "fixes"
itself if I enable DEBUG_STACK_FRAMES in StackFrameList.cpp, because
that calls StackFrame::Dump and that calls
GetSymbolContext(eSymbolContextEverything), which fills the context of
frame on the first breakpoint, therefore it doesn't have to be
recalculated (improperly) on a second frame. However, on first
breakpoint symbol context is calculated for the "call" line, not the
next one, therefore it should be recalculated anyway on a second

Pavel Labath d00dff88b4 [lldb] Make UnwindLLDB a non-plugin
Summary:
This is the only real unwinder, and things have been this way for quite
a long time. At this point, the class has accumulated so many features
it is unlikely that anyone will want to reimplement the whole thing.

The class is also fairly closely coupled (through UnwindPlans and
FuncUnwinders) with a lot of other lldb components that it is hard to
imagine a different unwinder implementation being substantially
different without reimplementing all of those.

The existing unwinding functionality is nonetheless fairly complex and
there is space for adding more structure to it, but I believe a more
worthwhile effort would be to take the existing UnwindLLDB class and try
to break it down and introduce extension/customization points, instead
of writing a brand new Unwind implementation.

Pavel Labath af3db4e9aa [lldb] Reduce duplication in the Disassembler class
Summary:
The class has two pairs of functions whose functionalities differ in
only how one specifies how much he wants to disasseble. One limits the
process by the size of the input memory region. The other based on the
total amount of instructions disassembled. They also differ in various
features (like error reporting) that were only added to one of the
versions.

There are various ways in which this could be addressed. This patch
does it by introducing a helper struct called "Limit", which is
effectively a pair specifying the value that you want to limit, and the
actual limit itself.

Fred Riss 20ce8affce [lldb/API] NFC: Reformat and simplify SBThread::GetStopDescription()
Summary:
This gets rid of some nesting and of the raw char* variable that caused
the memory management bug we hit recently.

This commit also removes the fallback code which should trigger when
the StopInfo provides no stop description. All currently implemented
StopInfos have a `GetDescription()` method that shouldn't return an
empty description.

Paolo Severini 256e61699b [LLDB] Fix AddressSanitizer failure in MemoryCache
The lldb sanitizer bot is flagging a container-overflow error after we
introduced test TestWasm.py. MemoryCache::Read didn't behave correctly
in case of partial reads that can happen with object files whose size is
smaller that the cache size. It should return the actual number of bytes
read and not try to fill the buffer with random memory.
Module::GetMemoryObjectFile needs to be modified accordingly, to resize
its buffer to only the size that was read.

Comparing those two `const char *` values relies on the assumption that both
strings were created by a ConstString. Let's check that assumption with an
assert as otherwise this code silently does nothing and that's not great.

Pavel Labath b807a28787 [lldb] Merge RangeArray and RangeVector
The two classes are equivalent, except:
- the former uses a llvm::SmallVector (with a configurable size), while
  the latter uses std::vector.
- the former has a typo in one of the functions name

This patch just leaves one class, using llvm::SmallVector, and defaults
the small size to zero. This is the same thing we did with the
RangeDataVector class in D56170.

Tatyana Krasnukha b624b7dfd0 [lldb] Make shared_from_this-related code safer
Pass TargetSP to filters' CreateFromStructuredData, don't let them guess
whether target object is managed by a shared_ptr.

Make Breakpoint sure that m_target.shared_from_this() is safe by passing TargetSP
to all its static Create*** member-functions. This should be enough, since Breakpoint's
constructors are private/protected and never called directly (except by Target itself).

Pavel Labath 07355c1c08 [lldb] Delete register info definitions in the x86_64 ABI classes
Summary:
These definitions are used to "augment" information received from the remote
target with eh/debug frame and "generic" register numbers.

Besides being verbose, this information was also incomplete (new registers like
xmm16-31 were missing) and sometimes even downright wrong (ymm register
numbers).

Most of this information is available via llvm's MCRegisterInfo. This patch
creates a new class, MCBasedABI, which retrieves the eh and debug frame register
numbers this way. The tricky part here is that the llvm class uses all-caps
register names, whereas lldb register are lowercase, and sometimes called
slightly differently. Therefore this class introduces some hooks to allow a
subclass to customize the MC lookup. The subclass also needs to suply the
"generic" register numbers, as this is an lldb invention.

This patch ports the x86_64 ABI classes to use the new register info mechanism.
It also creates a new "ABIx86_64" class which can be used to house code common
to x86_64 both ABIs. Right now, this just consists of a single function, but
there are plenty of other things that could be moved here too.
