Wei Mi 66c6c5abea [SampleFDO] handle ProfileSampleAccurate when initializing function entry count
ProfileSampleAccurate is used to indicate the profile has exact match to the
code to be optimized.

Previously ProfileSampleAccurate is handled in ProfileSummaryInfo::isColdCallSite
and ProfileSummaryInfo::isColdBlock. A better solution is to initialize function
entry count to 0 when ProfileSampleAccurate is true, so we don't have to handle
ProfileSampleAccurate in multiple places.

Vedant Kumar e7b789b529 [ProfileSummary] Standardize methods and fix comment
Every Analysis pass has a get method that returns a reference of the Result of
the Analysis, for example, BlockFrequencyInfo
&BlockFrequencyInfoWrapperPass::getBFI().  I believe that
ProfileSummaryInfo::getPSI() is the only exception to that, as it was returning
a pointer.

Another change is renaming isHotBB and isColdBB to isHotBlock and isColdBlock,
respectively. Most methods use BB as the argument of variable names while
methods usually refer to Basic Blocks as Blocks, instead of BB. For example,
Function::getEntryBlock, Loop:getExitBlock, etc.

I also fixed one of the comments.

Chandler Carruth edb12a838a [TI removal] Make variables declared as `TerminatorInst` and initialized
by `getTerminator()` calls instead be declared as `Instruction`.

This is the biggest remaining chunk of the usage of `getTerminator()`
that insists on the narrow type and so is an easy batch of updates.
Several files saw more extensive updates where this would cascade to
requiring API updates within the file to use `Instruction` instead of
`TerminatorInst`. All of these were trivial in nature (pervasively using
`Instruction` instead just worked).

Richard Smith 6c67662816 Add a flag to remap manglings when reading profile data information.
This can be used to preserve profiling information across codebase
changes that have widespread impact on mangled names, but across which
most profiling data should still be usable. For example, when switching
from libstdc++ to libc++, or from the old libstdc++ ABI to the new ABI,
or even from a 32-bit to a 64-bit build.

The user can provide a remapping file specifying parts of mangled names
that should be treated as equivalent (eg, std::__1 should be treated as
equivalent to std::__cxx11), and profile data will be treated as
applying to a particular function if its name is equivalent to the name
of a function in the profile data under the provided equivalences. See
the documentation change for a description of how this is configured.

Remapping is supported for both sample-based profiling and instruction
profiling. We do not support remapping indirect branch target
information, but all other profile data should be remapped
appropriately.

Support is only added for the new pass manager. If someone wants to also
add support for this for the old pass manager, doing so should be
straightforward.

This is the LLVM side of Clang r344199.

Wei Mi 6a14325dff [SampleFDO] Add FunctionOffsetTable in compact binary format profile.
The patch saves a function offset table which maps function name index to the
offset of its function profile to the start of the binary profile. By using
the function offset table, for those function profiles which will not be used
when compiling a module, the profile reader does't have to read them. For
profile size around 10~20M, it saves ~10% compile time.

Wei Mi 94d44c97bc [SampleFDO] Make sample profile loader unaware of compact format change.
The patch tries to make sample profile loader independent of profile format
change. It moves compact format related code into FunctionSamples and
SampleProfileReader classes, and sample profile loader only has to interact
with those two classes and will be unaware of profile format changes.

The cleanup also contain some fixes to further remove the difference between
compactbinary format and binary format. After the cleanup using different
formats originated from the same profile will generate the same binaries,
which we verified by compiling two large server benchmarks w/wo thinlto.

Wei Mi e555127435 [SampleFDO] Add an option to turn on/off warning about samples unused.
If a function has sample to use, but cannot use them because of no debug
information, currently a warning will be issued to inform the missing
opportunity.

This warning assumes the binary generating the profile and the binary using
the profile are similar enough. It is not always the case. Sometimes even
if the binaries are not quite similar, we may still get some benefit by
using sampleFDO. In those cases, we may still want to apply sampleFDO but
not want to see a lot of such warnings pop up.

The patch adds an option for the warning.

Name table occupies a big chunk of size in current binary format sample profile.
In order to reduce its size, the patch changes the sample writer/reader to
save/restore MD5Hash of names in the name table. Sample annotation phase will
also use MD5Hash of name to query samples accordingly.

Experiment shows compact binary format can reduce the size of sample profile by
2/3 compared with binary format generally.

Nicola Zaghen d34e60ca85 Rename DEBUG macro to LLVM_DEBUG.
The DEBUG() macro is very generic so it might clash with other projects.
The renaming was done as follows:
- git grep -l 'DEBUG' | xargs sed -i 's/\bDEBUG\s\?(/LLVM_DEBUG(/g'
- git diff -U0 master | ../clang/tools/clang-format/clang-format-diff.py -i -p1 -style LLVM
- Manual change to APInt
- Manually chage DOCS as regex doesn't match it.

In the transition period the DEBUG() macro is still present and aliased
to the LLVM_DEBUG() one.

Wei Mi 0c2f6be662 [SampleFDO] Don't treat warm callsite with inline instance in the profile as cold
We found current sampleFDO had a performance issue when triaging a regression.
For a callsite with inline instance in the profile, even if hot callsite inliner
cannot inline it, it may still execute enough times and should not be treated as
cold in regular inliner later. However, currently if such callsite is not inlined
by hot callsite inliner, and the BB where the callsite locates doesn't get
samples from other instructions inside of it, the callsite will have no profile
metadata annotated. In regular inliner cost analysis, if the callsite has no
profile annotated and its caller has profile information, it will be treated as
cold.

The fix changes the isCallsiteHot check and chooses to compare
CallsiteTotalSamples with hot cutoff value computed by ProfileSummaryInfo.

This pass synthesizes function entry counts by traversing the callgraph

use of these counts is in inlining to determine hot/cold callsites in

The pass is split into two files with the code that propagates the
counts in a callgraph in a Utils file. I plan to add support for
propagation in the thinlto link phase and the propagation code will be
shared and hence this split. I did not add support to the old PM since
hot callsite determination in inlining is not possible in old PM
(although we could use hot callee heuristic with synthetic counts in the
old PM it is not worth the effort tuning it)

Summary:
In r277849, getEntryCount was changed to return None when the entry
count was 0, specifically for SamplePGO where it means no samples were
recorded. However, for instrumentation PGO a 0 entry count should be
returned directly, since it does mean that the function was completely
cold. Otherwise we end up treating these functions conservatively
in isFunctionEntryCold() and isColdBB().

Instead, for SamplePGO use -1 when there are no samples, and change
getEntryCount to return None when the value is -1.

Matthew Simpson e363d2cebb [PGO] Make indirect call promotion a utility
This patch factors out the main code transformation utilities in the pgo-driven
indirect call promotion pass and places them in Transforms/Utils. The change is
intended to be a non-functional change, letting non-pgo-driven passes share a
common implementation with the existing pgo-driven pass.

The common utilities are used to conditionally promote indirect call sites to
direct call sites. They perform the underlying transformation, and do not
consider profile information. The pgo-specific details (e.g., the computation
of branch weight metadata) have been left in the indirect call promotion pass.

Dehao Chen 1ea8bd8109 Build SymbolMap in SampleProfileLoader to help matchin function names with suffix.
Summary: If there is suffix added in the function name (e.g. module hash added by thinLTO), we will not be able to find a match in profile as the suffix does not exist in profile. This patch build a map from function name to Function *. The map includes the entry for the stripped function name so that inlineHotFunctions can find the corresponding function to promote/inline.

Dehao Chen 2c7ca9b5df SamplePGO: convert callsite samples map key from callsite_location to callsite_location+callee_name
Summary: For iterative SamplePGO, an indirect call can be speculatively promoted to multiple direct calls and get inlined. All these promoted direct calls will share the same callsite location (offset+discriminator). With the current implementation, we cannot distinguish between different promotion candidates and its inlined instance. This patch adds callee_name to the key of the callsite sample map. And added helper functions to get all inlined callee samples for a given callsite location. This helps the profile annotator promote correct targets and inline it before annotation, and ensures all indirect call targets to be annotated correctly.

Dehao Chen d4a3397861 Emit less compiler optimization remarks in samplepgo to reduce a call to findCalleeFunctionSamples which is going to be refactored.
Summary: Now the SamplePGO support is more stable, we do not need so many verbose optimization remarks emitted.

Dehao Chen 53a0c082d2 Do not set branch weight if the branch weight annotation is present.
Summary: ThinLTO will annotate the CFG twice. If the branch weight is set by the first annotation, we should not set the branch weight again in the second annotation because the first annotation is more accurate as there is less optimization that could affect debug info accuracy.

Dehao Chen 4a435e0896 SamplePGO ThinLTO ICP fix for local functions.
Summary:
In SamplePGO, if the profile is collected from non-LTO binary, and used to drive ThinLTO, the indirect call promotion may fail because ThinLTO adjusts local function names to avoid conflicts. There are two places of where the mismatch can happen:

1. thin-link prepends SourceFileName to front of FuncName to build the GUID (GlobalValue::getGlobalIdentifier). Unlike instrumentation FDO, SamplePGO does not use the PGOFuncName scheme and therefore the indirect call target profile data contains a hash of the OriginalName.
2. backend compiler promotes some local functions to global and appends .llvm.{$ModuleHash} to the end of the FuncName to derive PromotedFunctionName

This patch tries at the best effort to find the GUID from the original local function name (in profile), and use that in ICP promotion, and in SamplePGO matching that happens in the backend after importing/inlining:

1. in thin-link, it builds the map from OriginalName to GUID so that when thin-link reads in indirect call target profile (represented by OriginalName), it knows which GUID to import.
2. in backend compiler, if sample profile reader cannot find a profile match for PromotedFunctionName, it will try to find if there is a match for OriginalFunctionName.
3. in backend compiler, we build symbol table entry for OriginalFunctionName and pointer to the same symbol of PromotedFunctionName, so that ICP can find the correct target to promote.
