When we build with split dwarf in single mode the .o files that contain both "normal" debug sections and dwo sections, along with relocaiton sections for "normal" debug sections.
When we create DWARF context in DWARFObjInMemory we process relocations and store them in the map for .debug_info, etc section.
For DWO Context we also do it for non dwo dwarf sections. Which I believe is not necessary. This leads to a lot of memory being wasted. We observed 70GB extra memory being used.
I went with context sensitive approach, flag is passed in. I am not sure if it's always safe not to process relocations for regular debug sections if Obj contains .dwo sections.
If it is alternatvie might be just to scan, in constructor, sections and if there are .dwo sections not to process regular debug ones.

This makes it possible for targets to define their own MCObjectFileInfo.
This MCObjectFileInfo is then used to determine things like section alignment.
This is a follow up to D101462 and prepares for the RISCV backend defining the

This untangles the MCContext and the MCObjectFileInfo. There is a circular
dependency between MCContext and MCObjectFileInfo. Currently this dependency
also exists during construction: You can't contruct a MOFI without a MCContext
without constructing the MCContext with a dummy version of that MOFI first.
This removes this dependency during construction. In a perfect world,
MCObjectFileInfo wouldn't depend on MCContext at all, but only be stored in the
MCContext, like other MC information. This is future work.
This also shifts/adds more information to the MCContext making it more
available to the different targets. Namely:

- ObjectFileType

Adds utilities for creating anonymous pointers and jump stubs to x86_64.h. These
are used by the GOT and Stubs builder, but may also be used by pass writers who
want to create pointer stubs for indirection.
This patch also switches the underlying type for LinkGraph content from
StringRef to ArrayRef<char>. This avoids any confusion when working with buffers
that contain null bytes in the middle like, for example, a newly added null
pointer content array. ;)
All these potential null pointer dereferences are reported by my static analyzer for null smart pointer dereferences, which has a different implementation from `alpha.cplusplus.SmartPtr`.
The checked pointers in this patch are initialized by Target::createXXX functions. When the creator function pointer is not correctly set, a null pointer will be returned, or the creator function may originally return a null pointer.
Some of them may not make sense as they may be checked before entering the function, but I fixed them all in this patch. I submit this fix because 1) similar checks are found in some other places in the LLVM codebase for the same return value of the function; and, 2) some of the pointers are dereferenced before they are checked, which may definitely trigger a null pointer dereference if the return value is nullptr.

Instead, leverage the existing `add_llvm_componentlibrary` cmake function and

These function store extra properties in the created targets. These properties
are processed once all components are defined to resolve library dependencies

SectionRef::getName() returns std::error_code now.
Returning Expected<> instead has multiple benefits.
For example, it forces user to check the error returned.
Also Expected<> may keep a valuable string error message,
what is more useful than having a error code.
(Object\invalid.test was updated to show the new messages printed.)
This patch makes a change for all users to switch to Expected<> version.
Note: in a few places the error returned was ignored before my changes.
In such places I left them ignored. My intention was to convert the interface

Summary:
For the most part this consists of replacing ${LLVM_TARGETS_TO_BUILD} with
some combination of AllTargets* so that they depend on specific components
of a target backend rather than all of it. The overall effect of this is
that, for example, tools like opt no longer falsely depend on the
disassembler, while tools like llvm-ar no longer depend on the code
generator.
There's a couple quirks to point out here:
* AllTargetsCodeGens is a bit more prevalent than expected. Tools like dsymutil
seem to need it which I was surprised by.
* llvm-xray linked to all the backends but doesn't seem to need any of them.
It builds and passes the tests so that seems to be correct.
* I left gold out as it's not built when binutils is not available so I'm
unable to test it

This patch reduces the number of functions in the interface between RuntimeDyld
and RuntimeDyldChecker by combining "GetXAddress" and "GetXContent" functions
into "GetXInfo" functions that return a struct describing both the address and
content. The GetStubOffset function is also replaced with a pair of utilities,
GetStubInfo and GetGOTInfo, that fit the new scheme. For RuntimeDyld both of
these functions will return the same result, but for the new JITLink linker
(https://reviews.llvm.org/D58704) these will provide the addresses of PLT stubs
and GOT entries respectively.
For JITLink's use, a 'got_addr' utility has been added to the rtdyld-check
language, and the syntax of 'got_addr' and 'stub_addr' has been changed: both
functions now take two arguments, a 'stub container name' and a target symbol
name. For llvm-rtdyld/RuntimeDyld the stub container name is the object file
name and section name, separated by a slash. E.g.:
rtdyld-check: *{8}(stub_addr(foo.o/__text, y)) = y
For the upcoming llvm-jitlink utility, which creates stubs on a per-file basis
rather than a per-section basis, the container name is just the file name. E.g.:
jitlink-check: *{8}(got_addr(foo.o, y)) = y

"wrong line number info for obj file compiled with -ffunction-sections"
bug. The problem happened with only .o files. If object file contains
several .text sections then line number information showed incorrectly.
The reason for this is that DwarfLineTable could not detect section which
corresponds to specified address(because address is the local to the
section). And as the result it could not select proper sequence in the
line table. The fix is to pass SectionIndex with the address. So that it
would be possible to differentiate addresses from various sections. With
this fix llvm-objdump shows correct line numbers for disassembled code.

frames.
RuntimeDyld was previously responsible for tracking allocated EH frames, but it
makes more sense to have the RuntimeDyld::MemoryManager track them (since the
frames are allocated through the memory manager, and written to memory owned by
the memory manager). This patch moves the frame tracking into
RTDyldMemoryManager, and changes the deregisterFrames method on
RuntimeDyld::MemoryManager from:
void deregisterEHFrames(uint8_t *Addr, uint64_t LoadAddr, size_t Size);
to:
void deregisterEHFrames();
Separating this responsibility will allow ORC to continue to throw the
RuntimeDyld instances away post-link (saving a few dozen bytes per lazy
function) while properly deregistering frames when modules are unloaded.
This patch also updates ORC to call deregisterEHFrames when modules are
unloaded. This fixes a bug where an exception that tears down the JIT can then
unwind through dangling EH frames that have been deallocated but not
deregistered, resulting in UB.
For people using SectionMemoryManager this should be pretty much a no-op. For
people with custom allocators that override registerEHFrames/deregisterEHFrames,
you will now be responsible for tracking allocated EH frames.

Currently llvm-rtdyld in -check mode will map sections to back-to-back 4k
aligned slabs starting at 0x1000. Automatically remapping sections by default is
helpful because it quickly exposes relocation bugs due to use of local addresses
rather than load addresses (these would silently pass if the load address was
not remapped). These mappings can be explicitly overridden on a per-section
basis using llvm-rtdlyd's -map-section option. This patch extends this scheme to
also preserve any mappings made by RuntimeDyld itself. Preserving RuntimeDyld's
automatic mappings allows us to write test cases to verify that these automatic
mappings have been applied.

This patch replaces RuntimeDyld::SymbolInfo with JITSymbol: A symbol class
that is capable of lazy materialization (i.e. the symbol definition needn't be
emitted until the address is requested). This can be used to support common
and weak symbols in the JIT (though this is not implemented in this patch).
For consistency, RuntimeDyld::SymbolResolver is renamed to JITSymbolResolver.
For space efficiency a new class, JITEvaluatedSymbol, is introduced that
behaves like the old RuntimeDyld::SymbolInfo - i.e. it is just a pair of an
address and symbol flags. Instances of JITEvaluatedSymbol can be used in
symbol-tables to avoid paying the space cost of the materializer.

This is nearly the last libObject interface that used ErrorOr and the last one
that appears in llvm/include/llvm/Object/MachO.h . For Mach-O objects this is
just a clean up because it’s version of getSymbolAddress() can’t return an

to change the last two ErrorOr interfaces in llvm/include/llvm/Object/ObjectFile.h

touching a number of places. Where the existing code reported the error with a
string message or an error code it was converted to do the same.
Also there some were bugs in the existing code that did not deal with the
old ErrorOr<> return values. So now with Expected<> since they must be

Again converting interfaces to Expected<> from ErrorOr<> does involve
touching a number of places. Where the existing code reported the error with a
string message or an error code it was converted to do the same. There is some
code for this that could be factored into a routine but I would like to leave that for
the code owners post-commit to do as they want for handling an llvm::Error. An
example of how this could be done is shown in the diff in
lib/ExecutionEngine/RuntimeDyld/RuntimeDyldImpl.h which had a Check() routine

Produce the first specific error message for a malformed Mach-O file describing
the problem instead of the generic message for object_error::parse_failed of
"Invalid data was encountered while parsing the file”. Many more good error
messages will follow after this first one.
This is built on Lang Hames’ great work of adding the ’Error' class for
structured error handling and threading Error through MachOObjectFile
construction. And making createMachOObjectFile return Expected<...> .
So to to get the error to the llvm-obdump tool, I changed the stack of
these methods to also return Expected<...> :
object::ObjectFile::createObjectFile()
object::SymbolicFile::createSymbolicFile()
object::createBinary()
Then finally in ParseInputMachO() in MachODump.cpp the error can
be reported and the specific error message can be printed in llvm-objdump
and can be seen in the existing test case for the existing malformed binary
but with the updated error message.
Converting these interfaces to Expected<> from ErrorOr<> does involve
touching a number of places. To contain the changes for now use of
errorToErrorCode() and errorOrToExpected() are used where the callers
are yet to be converted.
Also there some were bugs in the existing code that did not deal with the

in the test suite. While this is not really an interesting tool and option to run
on a Mach-O file to show the symbol table in a generic libObject format
it shouldn’t crash.
The reason for the crash was in MachOObjectFile::getSymbolType() when it was
calling MachOObjectFile::getSymbolSection() without checking its return value
for the error case.
What makes this fix require a fair bit of diffs is that the method getSymbolType() is
in the class ObjectFile defined without an ErrorOr<> so I needed to add that all
the sub classes. And all of the uses needed to be updated and the return value
needed to be checked for the error case.
The MachOObjectFile version of getSymbolType() “can” get an error in trying to
come up with the libObject’s internal SymbolRef::Type when the Mach-O symbol
symbol type is an N_SECT type because the code is trying to select from the
SymbolRef::ST_Data or SymbolRef::ST_Function values for the SymbolRef::Type.
And it needs the Mach-O section to use isData() and isBSS to determine if
it will return SymbolRef::ST_Data.
One other possible fix I considered is to simply return SymbolRef::ST_Other
when MachOObjectFile::getSymbolSection() returned an error. But since in
the past when I did such changes that “ate an error in the libObject code” I
was asked instead to push the error out of the libObject code I chose not
to implement the fix this way.
As currently written both the COFF and ELF versions of getSymbolType()
can’t get an error. But if isReservedSectionNumber() wanted to check for
the two known negative values rather than allowing all negative values or
the code wanted to add the same check as in getSymbolAddress() to use
getSection() and check for the error then these versions of getSymbolType()
could return errors.
At the end of the day the error printed now is the generic “Invalid data was
encountered while parsing the file” for object_error::parse_failed. In the
future when we thread Lang’s new TypedError for recoverable error handling
though libObject this will improve. And where the added // Diagnostic(…
comment is, it would be changed to produce and error message
like “bad section index (42) for symbol at index 8” for this case.
