Mauro Carvalho Chehab c1eaa6c478 [media] doc-rst: Convert ci.txt to a rst file
The old ci.txt file had a very peculiar format, with doesn't
match any markup language I know. Change it to be on ReST
format, for it to be parsed by Sphinx.

Also, as this is an old document, add a note about it.

Mauro Carvalho Chehab d2f019851a [media] doc-rst: Fix conversion for dvb-core.rst
The conversion from DocBook required some fixes:

- Now, the C files with the exported symbols also need to be
  added. So, all headers need to be included twice: one to
  get the structs/enums/.. and another one for the functions;

- Notes should use the ReST tag, as kernel-doc doesn't
  recognizes it anymore;

- Identation needs to be fixed, as ReST uses it to identify
  when a format "tag" ends.

- Fix the cross-references at the media controller description.

Mauro Carvalho Chehab 74604b7390 [media] doc-rst: Fix conversion for MC core functions
There were lots of issues at the media controller side,
after the conversion:

- Some documentation at the header files weren't using the
  kernel-doc start block;

- Now, the C files with the exported symbols also need to be
  added. So, all headers need to be included twice: one to
  get the structs/enums/.. and another one for the functions;

- Notes should use the ReST tag, as kernel-doc doesn't
  recognizes it anymore;

- Identation needs to be fixed, as ReST uses it to identify
  when a format "tag" ends.

Mauro Carvalho Chehab 89cb3ddbe7 [media] doc-rst: Fix conversion for v4l2 core functions
The conversion from DocBook lead into some conversion issues,
basically due to the lack of proper support at kernel-doc.

So, address them:

- Now, the C files with the exported symbols also need to be
  added. So, all headers need to be included twice: one to
  get the structs/enums/.. and another one for the functions;

- Notes should use the ReST tag, as kernel-doc doesn't
  recognizes it anymore;

- Identation needs to be fixed, as ReST uses it to identify
  when a format "tag" ends.

- kernel-doc doesn't escape things like *pointer, so we
  need to manually add a escape char before it.

- On some cases, kernel-doc conversion requires violating
  the 80-cols, as otherwise it won't properly parse the
  source code.

Mauro Carvalho Chehab 520a247760 doc-rst: Fix compilation of the pdf docbook
The rst2pdf tool is a very broken toolchain, with is not capable
of parsing complex documents. As such, it doesn't build the
media book, failing with:

	[ERROR] pdfbuilder.py:130 too many values to unpack

(using rst2pdf version 0.93.dev-r0 and Sphinx version 1.4.5)

So, make it build only the books we know that are safe to build.

Btw, with the standard Sphinx version shipped on Fedora 24 (Sphinx
1.3.1), rst2pdf doesn't build even the simple kernel-documentation,
failing with this error:
    writing Kernel... [ERROR] pdfbuilder.py:130 list index out of range

This is a known bug:
    https://github.com/sphinx-doc/sphinx/issues/1844

So, maybe we should just disable pdf generation from RST for good,
as I suspect that maintaining it with a broken toolchain will be a
big headache.

The samsung,exynos5433-spi has some peculiarities that bring the

One of those is the 3-clocks controller management where the spi

Greg Kroah-Hartman 6c71ee3b61 Third set of IIO new device support, features and cleanups for the 4.8 cycle.
New core features
 - Selection of the clock source for IIO timestamps. This is done per device
   as it makes little sense to have events in one timebase and data timestamped
   on another. Biggest reason for this is that we currently use a clock
   source which is non monotonic which can result in 'interesting' data sets.
   (Includes export for get_monotonic_corse64 which Thomas Gleixner didn't mind
    in an earlier version.)
 - MAINTAINERS add the git tree to the list for IIO.

 New device support + a kind of indirect staging graduation.
 * Broadcom iproc-static-adc
   - new driver
 * mcp4531
   - support for MCP454x, MCP456x, MCP464x and MCP466x potentiometers
 * mpu6050
   - support the IC20608 6 axis motion tracking device
 * st-sensors
   - support the lis3l02dq + drop the lis3l02dq driver from staging.
   The general purpose driver is missing event support, but good to get
   rid of this driver which was rather long in the tooth.

 New driver features
 * ak8975
   - Add vid regulator support and refactor handling in general.
   - Allow a delay after enabling regulators.
   - Runtime and system PM.
 * bmg160
   - filter frequency control support.

 Cleanups and reworkings.
 * numerous ADC drivers
   - ensure the iio_dev->dev.of_node is set to the parent dev.of_node so
   as to allow client bindings to find the device.
 * ak8975
   - Fix incorrect handling of missing regulator
   - make sure power is down and remove.
 * bmp280
   - read the calibration data only once as it doesn't change.
 * isl29125

 * mma8452
   - fix a memory leak on error.
   - drop an unecessary bit of return value handling.
 * potentiometer kconfig
   - typo fix.
 * st-pressure
   - drop some uninformative default assignments of elements of the channel
   array structure (aids readability).
 * st-sensors
   - Harden interrupt handling considerably. These are actually all using
   level interrupts, but at least two known boards have them wired to
   edge only interrupt chips. Hence a slightly interesting bit of handling
   is needed in which we first allow for the easy option (level triggered) and
   secondly check the status registers before reenabling edge interrupts and
   fall back to a tight loop in the thread until we successfully clear the
   interrupt. No harm is done if we never succeed in doing so. It's an odd
   patch that has been through a lot of revisions to reach a consensus on how
   to handle what is basically broken hardware (which the previous defaults
   allowed to kind of work).
   - Fix alignment to defined storagebytes boundaries.
   - Ensure alignment of power of 2 byte boundaries. This has always in theory
   been part of the ABI of IIO, but we missed a few that snuck in that need
   fixing. The effect was minor as they were only followed by timestamp
   channels which were correctly aligned,
   - Add some docs to explain the gain calculations.

Mauro Carvalho Chehab e6e9c9b238 [media] docs-rst: Fix some typos
Those fixes came from patchs from Andrea for the old DocBook
documentation.

As we're removing it on Kernel 4.8, it doesn't make sense to
apply the original patches, but, as the typos were ported

Steve Capper f8d9f92452 arm64: cpuinfo: Expose MIDR_EL1 and REVIDR_EL1 to sysfs
It can be useful for JIT software to be aware of MIDR_EL1 and
REVIDR_EL1 to ascertain the presence of any core errata that could
affect code generation.

This patch exposes these registers through sysfs:

/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu$ID/regs/identification/midr_el1
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu$ID/regs/identification/revidr_el1

where $ID is the cpu number. For big.LITTLE systems, one can have a
mixture of cores (e.g. Cortex A53 and Cortex A57), thus all CPUs need
to be enumerated.

If the kernel does not have valid information to populate these entries
with, an empty string is returned to userspace.

Rafael J. Wysocki 4c0b6c10fb PM / hibernate: Image data protection during restoration
Make it possible to protect all pages holding image data during
hibernate image restoration by setting them read-only (so as to
catch attempts to write to those pages after image data have been
stored in them).

This adds overhead to image restoration code (it may cause large
page mappings to be split as a result of page flags changes) and
the errors it protects against should never happen in theory, so
the feature is only active after passing hibernate=protect_image
to the command line of the restore kernel.

Also it only is built if CONFIG_DEBUG_RODATA is set.

This patch allows SSDTs to be loaded from EFI variables. It works by
specifying the EFI variable name containing the SSDT to be loaded. All
variables with the same name (regardless of the vendor GUID) will be
loaded.

Note that we can't use acpi_install_table and we must rely on the
dynamic ACPI table loading and bus re-scanning mechanisms. That is
because I2C/SPI controllers are initialized earlier then the EFI
subsystems and all I2C/SPI ACPI devices are enumerated when the

On a big-little system, PMUs can be wired to CPUs using per CPU
interrups (PPI). In this case, it is important to make sure that
the enable/disable do happen on the right set of CPUs.

So instead of relying on the interrupt-affinity property, we can
use the actual percpu affinity that DT exposes as part of the
interrupt specifier. The DT binding is also updated to reflect
the fact that the interrupt-affinity property shouldn't be used
in that case.

Thomas Garnier 0483e1fa6e x86/mm: Implement ASLR for kernel memory regions
Randomizes the virtual address space of kernel memory regions for

any region. The following patches will randomize the physical memory

This security feature mitigates exploits relying on predictable kernel
addresses. These addresses can be used to disclose the kernel modules
base addresses or corrupt specific structures to elevate privileges
bypassing the current implementation of KASLR. This feature can be
enabled with the CONFIG_RANDOMIZE_MEMORY option.

The order of each memory region is not changed. The feature looks at the
available space for the regions based on different configuration options
and randomizes the base and space between each. The size of the physical
memory mapping is the available physical memory. No performance impact
was detected while testing the feature.

Entropy is generated using the KASLR early boot functions now shared in
the lib directory (originally written by Kees Cook). Randomization is
done on PGD & PUD page table levels to increase possible addresses. The
physical memory mapping code was adapted to support PUD level virtual
addresses. This implementation on the best configuration provides 30,000
possible virtual addresses in average for each memory region. An
additional low memory page is used to ensure each CPU can start with a
PGD aligned virtual address (for realmode).

x86/dump_pagetable was updated to correctly display each region.

Updated documentation on x86_64 memory layout accordingly.

Markus Heiser 037763785a doc-rst: add kernel-include directive
The kernel-include directive is needed to include the auto generated rst
content from a build (pre-) process. E.g. the linux_tv Makefile
generates intermediate reST-files from header files. Since there is a O=
option:

  make O=dir [targets] Locate all output files in "dir"

We need to include intermediate reST files from arbitrary (O=/tmp/foo)
locations:

The 'kernel-include' reST-directive is a replacement for the 'include'
directive. The 'kernel-include' directive expand environment variables
in the path name and allows to include files from arbitrary locations.

.. hint::

  Including files from arbitrary locations (e.g. from '/etc') is a
  security risk for builders. This is why the 'include' directive from
  docutils *prohibit* pathnames pointing to locations *above* the
  filesystem tree where the reST document with the include directive is
  placed.

Substrings of the form $name or ${name} are replaced by the value of
environment variable name. Malformed variable names and references to
non-existing variables are left unchanged.

James Hogan 54b880caf1 kbuild, x86: Track generated headers with generated-y
Track generated header files which aren't already in genhdr-y, alongside
generic-y wrappers in the */include/generated/[uapi/]asm/ directories.
Currently only x86 generates extra headers in these directories, for the
purposes of enumerating system calls for different ABIs, and xen
hypercalls.

This will allow the asm-generic wrapper handling code to remove stale
wrappers when files are removed from generic-y, without also removing
these headers which are generated separately.

they are:

1) Don't use userspace datatypes in bridge netfilter code, from

5) Autoload loggers when TRACE target is used from rules, this doesn't
   change the behaviour in case the user already selected nfnetlink_log

6) Conntrack slabs with SLAB_HWCACHE_ALIGN to allow rearranging fields
   by cache lines, increases the size of entries in 11% per entry.
   From Florian Westphal.

7) Skip zone comparison if CONFIG_NF_CONNTRACK_ZONES=n, from Florian.

8) Remove useless defensive check in nf_logger_find_get() from Shivani
   Bhardwaj.

9) Remove zone extension as place it in the conntrack object, this is
   always include in the hashing and we expect more intensive use of
   zones since containers are in place. Also from Florian Westphal.

10) Owner match now works from any namespace, from Eric Bierdeman.

11) Make sure we only reply with TCP reset to TCP traffic from
    nf_reject_ipv4, patch from Liping Zhang.

12) Introduce --nflog-size to indicate amount of network packet bytes
    that are copied to userspace via log message, from Vishwanath Pai.
    This obsoletes --nflog-range that has never worked, it was designed
    to achieve this but it has never worked.

    This allows fixes interferences with ongoing preparation phase of

    happens from the commit phase path we have to observe the future
    status of the object.

16) Support for deletion of just added elements in the hash set type.

17) Allow to resize hashtable from /proc entry, not only from the
    obscure /sys entry that maps to the module parameter, from Florian
    Westphal.

18) Get rid of NFT_BASECHAIN_DISABLED, this code is not exercised
    anymore since we tear down the ruleset whenever the netdevice
    goes away.

19) Support for matching inverted set lookups, from Arturo Borrero.

20) Simplify the iptables_mangle_hook() by removing a superfluous
    extra branch.

21) Introduce ether_addr_equal_masked() and use it from the netfilter
    codebase, from Joe Perches.

22) Remove references to "Use netfilter MARK value as routing key"
    from the Netfilter Kconfig description given that this toggle
    doesn't exists already for 10 years, from Moritz Sichert.

23) Introduce generic NF_INVF() and use it from the xtables codebase,
    from Joe Perches.

24) Setting logger to NONE via /proc was not working unless explicit
    nul-termination was included in the string. This fixes seems to
    leave the former behaviour there, so we don't break backward.

The V4L2 is the only part of the doc that has the word "Specification"

Having the version there was important in the past, while we were

Markus Heiser 9abaf979ab doc-rst: customize RTD theme, table & full width
The default table layout of the RTD theme does not fit for vast tables,
like the ones we have in the linux_tv project. This has been discussed
on the ML [1].

The RTD theme is a two column layout, with a navigation column on the
left and a content column on the right:

content column

 RTD theme's default is 800px as max width for the content, but we have
 tables with tons of columns, which need the full width of the
 view-port (BTW: *full width* is what DocBook's HTML is).

table

   - sequences of whitespace should collapse into a single whitespace.
   - make the overflow auto (scrollbar if needed)
   - align caption "left" ("center" is unsuitable on vast tables)

due to the c function prototypes.

Fix that by prepending them with .. c:function::

While here, use the same way we document man-like pages,
at the V4L side of the book and add escapes to asterisks.

Mauro Carvalho Chehab eba9e91c48 doc-rst: linux_tv: Fix some occurences of :sub:
The right way to use it seems to do suscript is to use
this pattern: "\ :sub:"

Make sure all places of the media document will fit, by
using this script:

$n=0;
while (<>) {
	$n++;
	$t = $_;
	@matches = $t =~ m/(..\:sub\:)/g;
	foreach my $m (@matches) {
		$m =~ m/(.)(.)(\:sub\:)/;
		$s1=$1;
		$s2=$2;
		$s3=$3;
		next if (($s1 eq "\\") && ($s2 eq " "));
		if ($s2 eq " ") {
			$t =~ s/$s1$s2$s3/$s1\\$s2$s3/;
			next;
		}
		$t =~ s/$s1$s2$s3/$s1$s2\\ $s3/;
	}
	print $t;
}

And running it with:

for i in $(git grep -l sub Documentation/linux_tv/); do ./sub.pl $i >a && mv a $i; done

Heiko Stuebner a0da445aab phy: rockchip-usb: should be a child device of the GRF
The usb-phy is fully enclosed in the general register files (GRF).
Therefore as seen from the device-tree it shouldn't be a separate
platform-device but instead a sub-device of the GRF - using the
simply-mfd mechanism.

As the usb-phy is part of the kernel for some releases now, we keep
the old (and now deprecated) binding for compatibility purposes.
