David S. Miller b05930f5d1 Merge git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/davem/net
Conflicts:
	drivers/net/wireless/iwlwifi/pcie/trans.c

The inetdevice.h conflict involves moving the IPV4_DEVCONF values
into a UAPI header, overlapping additions of some new entries.

The iwlwifi conflict is a context overlap.

Ian Campbell 83d26d1113 ARM: 7824/1: update advice on kernel, initramfs and FDT load address.
- Recommend that the kernel be placed under 128MiB, this is required if
CONFIG_AUTO_ZRELADDR=y and good (or at least not bad) advice even if
    CONFIG_AUTO_ZRELADDR=n.
  - Recommend that a zImage kernel be placed above 32MiB, this avoids the need
to relocate prior to decompression, which can speed up boot.
  - Add basic info on the requirements when loading a raw (non-zImage) kernel
which are stricter than the zImage requirements.
  - Recommend that the DTB be placed after the 128MiB boundary, avoiding any
potential conflict with the kernel decompressor, and within the lowmem
region. In practice it could follow the kernel loaded after 32MiB,
assuming the kernel decompesses to less than 32MiB, but the 128MiB
    recommendation is simple and unambiguous.
  - Add similar recommendation regarding initramfs.

Sourav Poddar 505a14954e spi/qspi: Add qspi flash controller
The patch add basic support for the quad spi controller.

QSPI is a kind of spi module that allows single,
dual and quad read access to external spi devices. The module
has a memory mapped interface which provide direct interface
for accessing data form external spi devices.

The patch will configure controller clocks, device control
register and for defining low level transfer apis which
will be used by the spi framework to transfer data to
the slave spi device(flash in this case).

Test details:
-------------
Tested this on dra7 board.
Test1: Ran mtd_stesstest for 40000 iterations.
   - All iterations went through without failure.
Test2: Use mtd utilities:
  - flash_erase to erase the flash device
  - mtd_debug read to read data back.
  - mtd_debug write to write to the data flash.
diff between the write and read data shows zero.

Some boards require custom PHY configuration, for example due to trace

Paul E. McKenney 2ec1f2d987 rcu: Increase rcutorture test coverage
Currently, rcutorture has separate torture_types to test synchronous,
asynchronous, and expedited grace-period primitives. This has
two disadvantages: (1) Three times the number of runs to cover the
combinations and (2) Little testing of concurrent combinations of the
three options. This commit therefore adds a pair of module parameters
that control normal and expedited state, with the default being both
types, randomly selected, by the fakewriter processes, thus reducing
source-code size and increasing test coverage. In addtion, the writer
task switches between asynchronous-normal and expedited grace-period
primitives driven by the same pair of module parameters.

David Herrmann 6e0fe2e572 input: document gamepad API and add extra keycodes
Until today all gamepad input drivers report their data differently. It is
nearly impossible to write applications for more than one device in a
generic way. Therefore, this patch introduces a uniform gamepad API which
will be used for all new drivers.

Instead of mapping buttons by their labels, we now map them by position.
This allows applications to work with any gamepad regardless of the labels
on the buttons. Furthermore, we standardize the ABS_* codes for analog
triggers and sticks.

For D-Pads the long overdue BTN_DPAD_* codes are introduced. They should
be fairly obvious how to use. To avoid confusion, the action buttons now
have BTN_EAST/SOUTH/WEST/NORTH aliases.

Paul E. McKenney 6ae3771850 rcu: Update RTFP documentation
Note that this commit also updates the formatting of serveral of the
bibtex entries to conform to that of my .bib files. I started
accumulating entries back in the 1980s, back when bibtex insisted
that comma (",") was a separator, not a terminator. This rule forced
commas to the fronts of lines. 25 years later, bibtex allows commas
to be terminators, but I am too lazy to rework all my .bib files.
Keeping the same format as my .bib files allows my to simply
incorporate my RCU.bib file into Documentation/RCU/RTFP.txt, which
is much easier than my earlier practice of keeping track of what
had changed and adding individual entries. (I sometimes find relevant
papers that were published some years back, for example.)

In addition, this change adds entries for papers published in the
last year or so.

Daniel Vetter 7d14bb6b53 drm: don't call ->firstopen for KMS drivers
It has way too much potential for driver writers to do stupid things
like delayed hw setup because the load sequence is somehow racy (e.g.

which reduces the complexity of the drm core -> driver interface a
notch.

Paul E. McKenney d84297c99b rcu: Fix rcu_barrier() documentation
There was a time when rcu_barrier() was guaranteed to wait for at least
a grace period, but that time ended due to energy-efficiency concerns.
So now rcu_barrier() is a no-op if there are no RCU callbacks queued in

Now, rcu_barrier() often does wait for a grace period, so, one could
imagine some modification to rcu_barrier() to more efficiently handle
cases where both rcu_barrier() and a grace period are needed. But this
must wait until someone shows a real-world need for a change.

Daniel Vetter b0e898ac55 drm: remove FASYNC support
So I've stumbled over drm_fasync and wondered what it does. Digging
that up is quite a story.

First I've had to read up on what this does and ended up being rather
bewildered why peopled loved signals so much back in the days that
they've created SIGIO just for that ...

Then I wondered how this ever works, and what that strange "No-op."
comment right above it should mean. After all calling the core fasync
helper is pretty obviously not a noop. After reading through the
kernels FASYNC implementation I've noticed that signals are only sent
out to the processes attached with FASYNC by calling kill_fasync.

No merged drm driver has ever done that.

After more digging I've found out that the only driver that ever used
this is the so called GAMMA driver. I've frankly never heard of such a
gpu brand ever before. Now FASYNC seems to not have been the only bad
thing with that driver, since Dave Airlie removed it from the drm
driver with prejudice:

commit 1430163b4bbf7b00367ea1066c1c5fe85dbeefed
Author: Dave Airlie <airlied@linux.ie>
Date: Sun Aug 29 12:04:35 2004 +0000

Drop GAMMA DRM from a great height ...

Long story short, the drm fasync support seems to be doing absolutely
nothing. And the only user of it was never merged into the upstream
kernel. And we don't need any fops->fasync callback since the fcntl
implementation in the kernel already implements the noop case
correctly.

So stop this particular cargo-cult and rip it all out.

v2: Kill drm_fasync assignments in rcar (newly added) and imx drivers
(somehow I've missed that one in staging). Also drop the reference in
the drm DocBook. ARM compile-fail reported by Rob Clark.

v3: Move the removal of dev->buf_asnyc assignment in drm_setup to this
patch here.

v4: Actually git add ... tsk.

Hi Greg,

This pull request includes one new feature for the xhci-plat driver (device
tree support). Felipe was fine with the patch last I checked, but hadn't
 provided an official Acked-by line.

This pull request also includes 13 patches from my FOSS Outreach Program for
Women (OPW) intern, Xenia. She fixed a bug in the xHCI driver so that the
driver can allocate 64-bit consistent DMA, converted the driver to use dynamic
debugging, and added a bunch of new trace events for the xHCI driver. The
python plugin for trace-cmd should be up on git hub shortly, although the trace
 events are usable without it.

I'm very happy with the progress that Xenia has made, and I look forward to her
future contributions to the Linux kernel.

Stephen Warren a1bc260bb5 gpio: clean up gpio-ranges documentation
This change makes documentation of the the gpio-ranges property shorter
and more succinct, more consistent with the style of the rest of the
document, and not mention Linux-specifics such as the API
pinctrl_request_gpio(); DT binding documents should be OS independant
where at all possible. As part of this, the gpio-ranges property's format
is described in BNF form, in order to match the rest of the document.

This change also deprecates the #gpio-range-cells property. Such
properties are useful when one node references a second node, and that
second node dictates the format of the reference. However, that is not
the case here; the definition of gpio-ranges itself always dictates its
format entirely, and hence the value #gpio-range-cells must always be 3,
and hence there is no point requiring any referenced node to include
this property. The only remaining need for this property is to ensure
compatibility of DTs with older SW that was written to support the
previous version of the binding.

v4:
* Mention #gpio-range-cells as being deprecated, rather than removing all
documentation of that property. This allows DTs to be written in a
backwards-compatible way if desired, and also allows older DTs to be
interpreted fully using the latest documentation.
v3:
* Mention BNF in commit description.
* Fixed typo.
* Dropped patch that removed the deprecated property from *.dts, since
it's required to boot older kernels.

Hannes Frederic Sowa fc4eba58b4 ipv6: make unsolicited report intervals configurable for mld
Commit cab70040df ("net: igmp:
Reduce Unsolicited report interval to 1s when using IGMPv3") and
2690048c01 ("net: igmp: Allow user-space
configuration of igmp unsolicited report interval") by William Manley made
igmp unsolicited report intervals configurable per interface and corrected
the interval of unsolicited igmpv3 report messages resendings to 1s.

Same needs to be done for IPv6:

MLDv1 (RFC2710 7.10.): 10 seconds
MLDv2 (RFC3810 9.11.): 1 second

Both intervals are configurable via new procfs knobs
mldv1_unsolicited_report_interval and mldv2_unsolicited_report_interval.

(also added .force_mld_version to ipv6_devconf_dflt to bring structs in
line without semantic changes)

v2:
a) Joined documentation update for IPv4 and IPv6 MLD/IGMP
   unsolicited_report_interval procfs knobs.
b) incorporate stylistic feedback from William Manley

v3:
a) add new DEVCONF_* values to the end of the enum (thanks to David
   Miller)

register changes to support I2S in normal mode. This patch adds a
quirk for TDM mode and if TDM mode is present all the relevent changes
will be applied.

Samsung has different versions of I2S introduced in different

Each newly added change has a quirk. So this patch adds all the

Ming Lei 85721d4526 USB: URB documentation: claim complete() will be run with IRQs enabled
There is no good reason to run complete() in hard interrupt
disabled context.

After switch to run complete() in tasklet, we will enable local IRQs
when calling complete() since we can do it at that time.

Even though we still disable IRQs now when calling complete()
in tasklet, the URB documentation is updated to claim complete()
will be run in tasklet context and local IRQs will be enabled, so
that USB drivers can know the change and avoid one deadlock caused
by: assume IRQs disabled in complete() and call spin_lock() to
hold lock which might be acquired in interrupt context.

Current spin_lock() usages in drivers' complete() will be cleaned
up at the same time, and once the cleanup is finished, local IRQs
will be enabled when calling complete() in tasklet.

Also fix description about type of usb_complete_t, and remove the
advice of running completion handler in tasklet for decreasing
system latency.
