Currently, after the forward channel connection goes away,
backchannel operations are causing soft lockups on the server
because call_transmit_status's SOFTCONN logic ignores ENOTCONN.
Such backchannel Calls are aggressively retried until the client
reconnects.
Backchannel Calls should use RPC_TASK_NOCONNECT rather than
RPC_TASK_SOFTCONN. If there is no forward connection, the server is
not capable of establishing a connection back to the client, thus
that backchannel request should fail before the server attempts to
send it. Commit 58255a4e3c ("NFSD: NFSv4 callback client should
use RPC_TASK_SOFTCONN") was merged several years before
RPC_TASK_NOCONNECT was available.
Because setup_callback_client() explicitly sets NOPING, the NFSv4.0
callback connection depends on the first callback RPC to initiate
a connection to the client. Thus NFSv4.0 needs to continue to use
RPC_TASK_SOFTCONN.

In commit 16ad3f4022 ("tipc: introduce variable window congestion
control"), we allow link window to change with the congestion avoidance
algorithm. However, there is a bug that during the slow-start if packet
retransmission occurs, the link will enter the fast-recovery phase, set
its window to the 'ssthresh' which is never less than 300, so the link
window suddenly increases to that limit instead of decreasing.
Consequently, two issues have been observed:
- For broadcast-link: it can leave a gap between the link queues that a
new packet will be inserted and sent before the previous ones, i.e. not
in-order.
- For unicast: the algorithm does not work as expected, the link window
jumps to the slow-start threshold whereas packet retransmission occurs.
This commit fixes the issues by avoiding such the link window increase,
but still decreasing if the 'ssthresh' is lowered.

Add a check that the headroom cannot be larger than the available
space in the chunk. In the current code, a malicious user can set the
headroom to a value larger than the chunk size minus the fixed XDP

be like:
----------------------------------------------------

What it wants to get for x-proto in esp6_gso_encap() is the proto that
will be set in ESP nexthdr. So it should skip all ipv6 nexthdrs and
get the real transport protocol. Othersize, the wrong proto number
will be set into ESP nexthdr.

pskb_pull(skb, skb->mac_len + sizeof(ip6hdr) + x->props.header_len);
it will pull the data pointer to the wrong position, as it missed the

This patch is to fix it by using:
pskb_pull(skb, skb_transport_offset(skb) + x->props.header_len);
as we can be sure transport_header points to ESP header at that moment.
It also fixes a panic when packets with ipv6 nexthdr are sent over

A race condition leading to a kernel crash is observed during invocation
of ieee80211_register_hw() on a dragonboard410c device having wcn36xx
driver built as a loadable module along with a wifi manager in user-space
waiting for a wifi device (wlanX) to be active.
Sequence diagram for a particular kernel crash scenario:

As evident from above sequence diagram, this race condition isn't specific
to a particular wifi driver but rather the initialization sequence in
ieee80211_register_hw() needs to be fixed. So re-order the initialization
sequence and the updated sequence diagram would look like:

DSA and CPU ports can be configured in two ways. By default, the
driver should configure such ports to there maximum bandwidth. For
most use cases, this is sufficient. When this default is insufficient,
a phylink instance can be bound to such ports, and phylink will
configure the port, e.g. based on fixed-link properties. phylink
assumes the port is initially down. Given that the driver should have
already configured it to its maximum speed, ask the driver to down
the port before instantiating the phylink instance.

Fix the DATA packet transmission to disable nofrag for UDPv4 on an AF_INET6
socket as well as UDPv6 when trying to transmit fragmentably.
Without this, packets filled to the normal size used by the kernel AFS
client of 1412 bytes be rejected by udp_sendmsg() with EMSGSIZE
immediately. The ->sk_error_report() notification hook is called, but
rxrpc doesn't generate a trace for it.
This is a temporary fix; a more permanent solution needs to involve
changing the size of the packets being filled in accordance with the MTU,
which isn't currently done in AF_RXRPC. The reason for not doing so was
that, barring the last packet in an rx jumbo packet, jumbos can only be
assembled out of 1412-byte packets - and the plan was to construct jumbos
on the fly at transmission time.
Also, there's no point turning on IPV6_MTU_DISCOVER, since IPv6 has to
engage in this anyway since fragmentation is only done by the sender. We
can then condense the switch-statement in rxrpc_send_data_packet().

In rds_free_mr(), it calls rds_destroy_mr(mr) directly. But this
defeats the purpose of reference counting and makes MR free handling
impossible. It means that holding a reference does not guarantee that
it is safe to access some fields. For example, In
rds_cmsg_rdma_dest(), it increases the ref count, unlocks and then
calls mr->r_trans->sync_mr(). But if rds_free_mr() (and
rds_destroy_mr()) is called in between (there is no lock preventing
this to happen), r_trans_private is set to NULL, causing a panic.
Similar issue is in rds_rdma_unuse().

If the local node id(qrtr_local_nid) is not modified after its

So the messages from local node should not be taken as broadcast

in the tls code:

Creation and management of L2TPv3 tunnels and session through netlink
requires CAP_NET_ADMIN. However, a process with CAP_NET_ADMIN in a
non-initial user namespace gets an EPERM due to the use of the
genetlink GENL_ADMIN_PERM flag. Thus, management of L2TP VPNs inside
an unprivileged container won't work.
We replaced the GENL_ADMIN_PERM by the GENL_UNS_ADMIN_PERM flag
similar to other network modules which also had this problem, e.g.,
openvswitch (commit 4a92602aa1 "openvswitch: allow management from
inside user namespaces") and nl80211 (commit 5617c6cd6f "nl80211:
Allow privileged operations from user namespaces").
I tested this in the container runtime trustm3 (trustm3.github.io)
and was able to create l2tp tunnels and sessions in unpriviliged
(user namespaced) containers using a private network namespace.
For other runtimes such as docker or lxc this should work, too.

Doing this probing inside of the Makefiles means we have a maze of
ifdefs inside the source code and child Makefiles that need to make
proper decisions on this too. Instead, we do it at Kconfig time, like
many other compiler and assembler options, which allows us to set up the
dependencies normally for full compilation units. In the process, the
ADX test changes to use %eax instead of %r10 so that it's valid in both

After driver sets the missed chain on the tc skb extension it is
consumed (deleted) by tc_classify_ingress and tc jumps to that chain.
If tc now misses on this chain (either no match, or no goto action),
then last executed chain remains 0, and the skb extension is not re-added,
and the next datapath (ovs) will start from 0.
Fix that by setting last executed chain to the chain read from the skb

Since commit fac6fce9bd ("net: icmp6: provide input address for
traceroute6") ICMPv6 errors have source addresses from the ingress
interface. However, this overrides when source address selection is
influenced by setting preferred source addresses on routes.
This can result in ICMP errors being lost to upstream BCP38 filters
when the wrong source addresses are used, breaking path MTU discovery
and traceroute.
This patch sets the modified source address selection to only take place
when the route used has no prefsrc set.

This patch fix the loop iteration by not walking over the last
iteration. The cmpri compressing value exempt the last segment. As the
code shows the last iteration will be overwritten by cmpre value
handling which is for the last segment.
I think this doesn't end in any bufferoverflows because we work on worst
case temporary buffer sizes but it ends in not best compression settings
in some cases.

Android has long had an extension to IDLETIMER to send netlink
messages to userspace, see:
https://android.googlesource.com/kernel/common/+/refs/heads/android-mainline/include/uapi/linux/netfilter/xt_IDLETIMER.h#42
Note: this is idletimer target rev 1, there is no rev 0 in
the Android common kernel sources, see registration at:
https://android.googlesource.com/kernel/common/+/refs/heads/android-mainline/net/netfilter/xt_IDLETIMER.c#483
When we compare that to upstream's new idletimer target rev 1:
https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/pablo/nf-next.git/tree/include/uapi/linux/netfilter/xt_IDLETIMER.h#n46
We immediately notice that these two rev 1 structs are the
same size and layout, and that while timer_type and send_nl_msg
are differently named and serve a different purpose, they're
at the same offset.
This makes them impossible to tell apart - and thus one cannot
know in a mixed Android/vanilla environment whether one means
timer_type or send_nl_msg.
Since this is iptables/netfilter uapi it introduces a problem
between iptables (vanilla vs Android) userspace and kernel
(vanilla vs Android) if the two don't match each other.
Additionally when at some point in the future Android picks up
5.7+ it's not at all clear how to resolve the resulting merge
conflict.
Furthermore, since upgrading the kernel on old Android phones
is pretty much impossible there does not seem to be an easy way
out of this predicament.
The only thing I've been able to come up with is some super
disgusting kernel version >= 5.7 check in the iptables binary
to flip between different struct layouts.
By adding a dummy field to the vanilla Linux kernel header file
we can force the two structs to be compatible with each other.
Long term I think I would like to deprecate send_nl_msg out of
Android entirely, but I haven't quite been able to figure out
exactly how we depend on it. It seems to be very similar to
sysfs notifications but with some extra info.
Currently it's actually always enabled whenever Android uses
the IDLETIMER target, so we could also probably entirely
remove it from the uapi in favour of just always enabling it,
but again we can't upgrade old kernels already in the field.
(Also note that this doesn't change the structure's size,
as it is simply fitting into the pre-existing padding, and
that since 5.7 hasn't been released yet, there's still time
to make this uapi visible change)

Case a1. for overlap detection in __nft_rbtree_insert() is not a valid
one: start-after-start is not needed to detect any type of interval
overlap and it actually results in a false positive if, while
descending the tree, this is the only step we hit after starting from
the root.
This introduced a regression, as reported by Pablo, in Python tests
cases ip/ip.t and ip/numgen.t:
ip/ip.t: ERROR: line 124: add rule ip test-ip4 input ip hdrlength vmap { 0-4 : drop, 5 : accept, 6 : continue } counter: This rule should not have failed.
ip/numgen.t: ERROR: line 7: add rule ip test-ip4 pre dnat to numgen inc mod 10 map { 0-5 : 192.168.10.100, 6-9 : 192.168.20.200}: This rule should not have failed.
Drop case a1. and renumber others, so that they are a bit clearer. In
order for these diagrams to be readily understandable, a bigger rework
is probably needed, such as an ASCII art of the actual rbtree (instead
of a flattened version).
Shell script test sets/0044interval_overlap_0 should cover all
possible cases for false negatives, so I consider that test case still
sufficient after this change.

Currently, SO_BINDTODEVICE requires CAP_NET_RAW. This change allows a
non-root user to bind a socket to an interface if it is not already
bound. This is useful to allow an application to bind itself to a
specific VRF for outgoing or incoming connections. Currently, an
application wanting to manage connections through several VRF need to
be privileged.
Previously, IP_UNICAST_IF and IPV6_UNICAST_IF were added for
Wine (76e21053b5 and c4062dfc42) specifically for use by
non-root processes. However, they are restricted to sendmsg() and not
usable with TCP. Allowing SO_BINDTODEVICE would allow TCP clients to
get the same privilege. As for TCP servers, outside the VRF use case,
SO_BINDTODEVICE would only further restrict connections a server could
accept.
When an application is restricted to a VRF (with `ip vrf exec`), the
socket is bound to an interface at creation and therefore, a
non-privileged call to SO_BINDTODEVICE to escape the VRF fails.
When an application bound a socket to SO_BINDTODEVICE and transmit it
to a non-privileged process through a Unix socket, a tentative to
change the bound device also fails.

sparse reports an error due to use of RCU_INIT_POINTER helper to assign to

net/core/sock.c:1875:25: void [noderef] <asn:4> *

... and rightfully so. sk_user_data is not always treated as a pointer to
an RCU-protected data. When it is used to point at an RCU-protected object,
we access it with __sk_user_data to inform sparse about it.
In this case, when the child socket does not inherit sk_user_data from the
parent, there is no reason to treat it as an RCU-protected pointer.

mptcp_subflow_data_available() is commonly called via
ssk->sk_data_ready(), in this case the mptcp socket lock
cannot be acquired.
Therefore, while we can safely discard subflow data that
was already received up to msk->ack_seq, we cannot be sure
that 'subflow->data_avail' will still be valid at the time
userspace wants to read the data -- a previous read on a
different subflow might have carried this data already.
In that (unlikely) event, msk->ack_seq will have been updated
and will be ahead of the subflow dsn.
We can check for this condition and skip/resync to the expected
sequence number.

Problem is that mptcp_shutdown() socket isn't an mptcp socket,
its a plain tcp_sk. Thus, trying to access mptcp_sk specific
members accesses garbage.
Root cause is that accept() returns a fallback (tcp) socket, not an mptcp
one. There is code in getpeername to detect this and override the sockets
stream_ops. But this will only run when accept() caller provided a
sockaddr struct. "accept(fd, NULL, 0)" will therefore result in
mptcp stream ops, but with sock->sk pointing at a tcp_sk.
Update the existing fallback handling to detect this as well.
Moreover, mptcp_shutdown did not have fallback handling, and
mptcp_poll did it too late so add that there as well.

Looks like addrconf_sysctl_addr_gen_mode() bypasses the original "is
this a slave interface?" check added by commit c2edacf80e, and
results in an address getting added, while w/the proposed patch added,
no address gets added. This simply adds the same gating check to another
code path, and thus should prevent the same devices from erroneously
obtaining an ipv6 link-local address.

Although we intentionally use an ordered workqueue for all tc
filter works, the ordering is not guaranteed by RCU work,
given that tcf_queue_work() is esstenially a call_rcu().
This problem is demostrated by Thomas:
CPU 0:
tcf_queue_work()
tcf_queue_work(&r->rwork, tcindex_destroy_rexts_work);
-> Migration to CPU 1
CPU 1:
tcf_queue_work(&p->rwork, tcindex_destroy_work);
so the 2nd work could be queued before the 1st one, which leads
to a free-after-free.
Enforcing this order in RCU work is hard as it requires to change
RCU code too. Fortunately we can workaround this problem in tcindex
filter by taking a temporary refcnt, we only refcnt it right before
we begin to destroy it. This simplifies the code a lot as a full
refcnt requires much more changes in tcindex_set_parms().

The previous patch allowed device drivers to publish their default
binding between packet trap policers and packet trap groups. However,
some users might not be content with this binding and would like to
change it.
In case user space passed a packet trap policer identifier when setting
a packet trap group, invoke the appropriate device driver callback and
pass the new policer identifier.

Packet trap groups are used to aggregate logically related packet traps.
Currently, these groups allow user space to batch operations such as
setting the trap action of all member traps.
In order to prevent the CPU from being overwhelmed by too many trapped
packets, it is desirable to bind a packet trap policer to these groups.
For example, to limit all the packets that encountered an exception
during routing to 10Kpps.
Allow device drivers to bind default packet trap policers to packet trap
groups when the latter are registered with devlink.
The next patch will enable user space to change this default binding.

Devices capable of offloading the kernel's datapath and perform
functions such as bridging and routing must also be able to send (trap)
specific packets to the kernel (i.e., the CPU) for processing.
For example, a device acting as a multicast-aware bridge must be able to
trap IGMP membership reports to the kernel for processing by the bridge
module.
In most cases, the underlying device is capable of handling packet rates
that are several orders of magnitude higher compared to those that can
be handled by the CPU.
Therefore, in order to prevent the underlying device from overwhelming
the CPU, devices usually include packet trap policers that are able to
police the trapped packets to rates that can be handled by the CPU.
This patch allows capable device drivers to register their supported
packet trap policers with devlink. User space can then tune the
parameters of these policer (currently, rate and burst size) and read
from the device the number of packets that were dropped by the policer,
if supported.
Subsequent patches in the series will allow device drivers to create
default binding between these policers and packet trap groups and allow
user space to change the binding.
v2:
* Add 'strict_start_type' in devlink policy
* Have device drivers provide max/min rate/burst size for each policer.
Use them to check validity of user provided parameters

Add support for TPROXY via a new bpf helper, bpf_sk_assign().
This helper requires the BPF program to discover the socket via a call
to bpf_sk*_lookup_*(), then pass this socket to the new helper. The
helper takes its own reference to the socket in addition to any existing
reference that may or may not currently be obtained for the duration of
BPF processing. For the destination socket to receive the traffic, the
traffic must be routed towards that socket via local route. The
simplest example route is below, but in practice you may want to route
traffic more narrowly (eg by CIDR):
$ ip route add local default dev lo
This patch avoids trying to introduce an extra bit into the skb->sk, as
that would require more invasive changes to all code interacting with
the socket to ensure that the bit is handled correctly, such as all
error-handling cases along the path from the helper in BPF through to
the orphan path in the input. Instead, we opt to use the destructor
variable to switch on the prefetch of the socket.

In example MSS = 1400(HEX: 0x578). Here is representation of each byte
like it is in memory by addresses from left to right(e.g. [0x0 0x1 0x2
0x3]). LE — Little-Endian system, BE — Big-Endian, left column is type.
LE BE
u32: [78 05 00 00] [00 00 05 78]
As you can see, u32 representation will be casted to u16 from different
half of 4-byte address range. But actually nf_tables uses registers and
store data of various size. Actually TCP MSS stored in 2 bytes. But
registers are still u32 in definition:
struct nft_regs {
union {
u32 data[20];
struct nft_verdict verdict;
};
};
So, access like regs->data[priv->sreg] exactly u32. So, according to
table presents above, per-byte representation of stored TCP MSS in
register will be:
LE BE
(u32)regs->data[]: [78 05 00 00] [05 78 00 00]
^^ ^^
We see that register uses just half of u32 and other 2 bytes may be
used for some another data. But in nft_exthdr_tcp_set_eval() it casted
just like u32 -> __be16:
new.v16 = src
But u32 overfill __be16, so it get 2 low bytes. For clarity draw
one more table(<xx xx> means that bytes will be used for cast).
LE BE
u32: [<78 05> 00 00] [00 00 <05 78>]
(u32)regs->data[]: [<78 05> 00 00] [05 78 <00 00>]
As you can see, for Little-Endian nothing changes, but for Big-endian we
take the wrong half. In my case there is some other data instead of
zeros, so new MSS was wrongly greater.
For shooting this bug I used solution for ports ranges. Applying of this
patch does not affect Little-Endian systems.

The approach taken to pass the port policer methods on to drivers is
pragmatic. It is similar to the port mirroring implementation (in that
the DSA core does all of the filter block interaction and only passes
simple operations for the driver to implement) and dissimilar to how
flow-based policers are going to be implemented (where the driver has
full control over the flow_cls_offload data structure).

Expose a new netlink family to userspace to control the PM, setting:
- list of local addresses to be signalled.
- list of local addresses used to created subflows.
- maximum number of add_addr option to react
When the msk is fully established, the PM netlink attempts to
announce the 'signal' list via the ADD_ADDR option. Since we
currently lack the ADD_ADDR echo (and related event) only the
first addr is sent.
After exhausting the 'announce' list, the PM tries to create
subflow for each addr in 'local' list, waiting for each
connection to be completed before attempting the next one.
Idea is to add an additional PM hook for ADD_ADDR echo, to allow
the PM netlink announcing multiple addresses, in sequence.

This will simplify mptcp-level retransmission implementation
in the next patch. If dfrag is provided by the caller, skip
kernel space memory allocation and use data and metadata
provided by the dfrag itself.
Because a peer could ack data at TCP level but refrain from
sending mptcp-level ACKs, we could grow the mptcp socket
backlog indefinitely.
We should thus block mptcp_sendmsg until the peer has acked some of the
sent data.
In order to be able to do so, increment the mptcp socket wmem_queued
counter on memory allocation and decrement it when releasing the memory
on mptcp-level ack reception.
Because TCP performns sndbuf auto-tuning up to tcp_wmem_max[2], make
this the mptcp sk_sndbuf limit.

After adding wmem accounting for the mptcp socket we could get
into a situation where the mptcp socket can't transmit more data,
and mptcp_clean_una doesn't reduce wmem even if snd_una has advanced
because it currently will only remove entire dfrags.
Allow advancing the dfrag head sequence and reduce wmem,
even though this isn't correct (as we can't release the page).
Because we will soon block on mptcp sk in case wmem is too large,
call sk_stream_write_space() in case we reduced the backlog so
userspace task blocked in sendmsg or poll will be woken up.
This isn't an issue if the send buffer is large, but it is when
SO_SNDBUF is used to reduce it to a lower value.
Note we can still get a deadlock for low SO_SNDBUF values in
case both sides of the connection write to the socket: both could
be blocked due to wmem being too small -- and current mptcp stack
will only increment mptcp ack_seq on recv.
This doesn't happen with the selftest as it uses poll() and
will always call recv if there is data to read.

Add enough of a path manager interface to allow sending of ADD_ADDR
when an incoming MPTCP connection is created. Capable of sending only
a single IPv4 ADD_ADDR option. The 'pm_data' element of the connection
sock will need to be expanded to handle multiple interfaces and IPv6.
Partial processing of the incoming ADD_ADDR is included so the path
manager notification of that event happens at the proper time, which
involves validating the incoming address information.
This is a skeleton interface definition for events generated by
MPTCP.

Under certain circumstances, depending on the order of addresses on the
interfaces, it could be that sctp_v[46]_get_dst() would return a dst
with a mismatched struct flowi.
For example, if when walking through the bind addresses and the first
one is not a match, it saves the dst as a fallback (added in
410f03831c), but not the flowi. Then if the next one is also not a
match, the previous dst will be returned but with the flowi information
for the 2nd address, which is wrong.
The fix is to use a locally stored flowi that can be used for such
attempts, and copy it to the parameter only in case it is a possible
match, together with the corresponding dst entry.
The patch updates IPv6 code mostly just to be in sync. Even though the issue
is also present there, it fallback is not expected to work with IPv6.

nf_queue is problematic when another NF_QUEUE invocation happens
from nf_reinject().
1. nf_queue is invoked, increments state->sk refcount.
2. skb is queued, waiting for verdict.
3. sk is closed/released.
3. verdict comes back, nf_reinject is called.
4. nf_reinject drops the reference -- refcount can now drop to 0
Instead of get_ref/release_ref pattern, we need to nest the get_ref calls:
get_ref
get_ref
release_ref
release_ref
So that when we invoke the next processing stage (another netfilter
or the okfn()), we hold at least one reference count on the
devices/socket.

However, we will need to put the references after okfn() to avoid

While it is currently possible for userspace to specify that an existing
XDP program should not be replaced when attaching to an interface, there is
no mechanism to safely replace a specific XDP program with another.
This patch adds a new netlink attribute, IFLA_XDP_EXPECTED_FD, which can be
set along with IFLA_XDP_FD. If set, the kernel will check that the program
currently loaded on the interface matches the expected one, and fail the
operation if it does not. This corresponds to a 'cmpxchg' memory operation.
Setting the new attribute with a negative value means that no program is
expected to be attached, which corresponds to setting the UPDATE_IF_NOEXIST
flag.
A new companion flag, XDP_FLAGS_REPLACE, is also added to explicitly
request checking of the EXPECTED_FD attribute. This is needed for userspace
to discover whether the kernel supports the new attribute.

In Cilium we're mainly using BPF cgroup hooks today in order to implement
kube-proxy free Kubernetes service translation for ClusterIP, NodePort (*),
ExternalIP, and LoadBalancer as well as HostPort mapping [0] for all traffic
between Cilium managed nodes. While this works in its current shape and avoids
packet-level NAT for inter Cilium managed node traffic, there is one major
limitation we're facing today, that is, lack of netns awareness.
In Kubernetes, the concept of Pods (which hold one or multiple containers)
has been built around network namespaces, so while we can use the global scope
of attaching to root BPF cgroup hooks also to our advantage (e.g. for exposing
NodePort ports on loopback addresses), we also have the need to differentiate
between initial network namespaces and non-initial one. For example, ExternalIP
services mandate that non-local service IPs are not to be translated from the
host (initial) network namespace as one example. Right now, we have an ugly
work-around in place where non-local service IPs for ExternalIP services are
not xlated from connect() and friends BPF hooks but instead via less efficient
packet-level NAT on the veth tc ingress hook for Pod traffic.
On top of determining whether we're in initial or non-initial network namespace
we also have a need for a socket-cookie like mechanism for network namespaces
scope. Socket cookies have the nice property that they can be combined as part
of the key structure e.g. for BPF LRU maps without having to worry that the
cookie could be recycled. We are planning to use this for our sessionAffinity
implementation for services. Therefore, add a new bpf_get_netns_cookie() helper
which would resolve both use cases at once: bpf_get_netns_cookie(NULL) would
provide the cookie for the initial network namespace while passing the context
instead of NULL would provide the cookie from the application's network namespace.
We're using a hole, so no size increase; the assignment happens only once.
Therefore this allows for a comparison on initial namespace as well as regular
cookie usage as we have today with socket cookies. We could later on enable
this helper for other program types as well as we would see need.

Many switches don't have an explicit knob for configuring the MTU
(maximum transmission unit per interface). Instead, they do the
length-based packet admission checks on the ingress interface, for
reasons that are easy to understand (why would you accept a packet in
the queuing subsystem if you know you're going to drop it anyway).
So it is actually the MRU that these switches permit configuring.
In Linux there only exists the IFLA_MTU netlink attribute and the
associated dev_set_mtu function. The comments like to play blind and say
that it's changing the "maximum transfer unit", which is to say that
there isn't any directionality in the meaning of the MTU word. So that
is the interpretation that this patch is giving to things: MTU == MRU.
When 2 interfaces having different MTUs are bridged, the bridge driver
MTU auto-adjustment logic kicks in: what br_mtu_auto_adjust() does is it
adjusts the MTU of the bridge net device itself (and not that of the
slave net devices) to the minimum value of all slave interfaces, in
order for forwarded packets to not exceed the MTU regardless of the
interface they are received and send on.
The idea behind this behavior, and why the slave MTUs are not adjusted,
is that normal termination from Linux over the L2 forwarding domain
should happen over the bridge net device, which _is_ properly limited by
the minimum MTU. And termination over individual slave devices is
possible even if those are bridged. But that is not "forwarding", so
there's no reason to do normalization there, since only a single
interface sees that packet.
The problem with those switches that can only control the MRU is with
the offloaded data path, where a packet received on an interface with
MRU 9000 would still be forwarded to an interface with MRU 1500. And the
br_mtu_auto_adjust() function does not really help, since the MTU
configured on the bridge net device is ignored.
In order to enforce the de-facto MTU == MRU rule for these switches, we
need to do MTU normalization, which means: in order for no packet larger
than the MTU configured on this port to be sent, then we need to limit
the MRU on all ports that this packet could possibly come from. AKA
since we are configuring the MRU via MTU, it means that all ports within
a bridge forwarding domain should have the same MTU.
And that is exactly what this patch is trying to do.
>From an implementation perspective, we try to follow the intent of the
user, otherwise there is a risk that we might livelock them (they try to
change the MTU on an already-bridged interface, but we just keep
changing it back in an attempt to keep the MTU normalized). So the MTU
that the bridge is normalized to is either:
- The most recently changed one:
ip link set dev swp0 master br0
ip link set dev swp1 master br0
ip link set dev swp0 mtu 1400
This sequence will make swp1 inherit MTU 1400 from swp0.
- The one of the most recently added interface to the bridge:
ip link set dev swp0 master br0
ip link set dev swp1 mtu 1400
ip link set dev swp1 master br0
The above sequence will make swp0 inherit MTU 1400 as well.

It is useful be able to configure port policers on a switch to accept
frames of various sizes:
- Increase the MTU for better throughput from the default of 1500 if it
is known that there is no 10/100 Mbps device in the network.
- Decrease the MTU to limit the latency of high-priority frames under
congestion, or work around various network segments that add extra
headers to packets which can't be fragmented.
For DSA slave ports, this is mostly a pass-through callback, called
through the regular ndo ops and at probe time (to ensure consistency
across all supported switches).
The CPU port is called with an MTU equal to the largest configured MTU
of the slave ports. The assumption is that the user might want to
sustain a bidirectional conversation with a partner over any switch
port.
The DSA master is configured the same as the CPU port, plus the tagger
overhead. Since the MTU is by definition L2 payload (sans Ethernet
header), it is up to each individual driver to figure out if it needs to
do anything special for its frame tags on the CPU port (it shouldn't
except in special cases). So the MTU does not contain the tagger
overhead on the CPU port.
However the MTU of the DSA master, minus the tagger overhead, is used as
a proxy for the MTU of the CPU port, which does not have a net device.
This is to avoid uselessly calling the .change_mtu function on the CPU
port when nothing should change.
So it is safe to assume that the DSA master and the CPU port MTUs are
apart by exactly the tagger's overhead in bytes.
Some changes were made around dsa_master_set_mtu(), function which was
now removed, for 2 reasons:
- dev_set_mtu() already calls dev_validate_mtu(), so it's redundant to
do the same thing in DSA
- __dev_set_mtu() returns 0 if ops->ndo_change_mtu is an absent method
That is to say, there's no need for this function in DSA, we can safely
call dev_set_mtu() directly, take the rtnl lock when necessary, and just
propagate whatever errors get reported (since the user probably wants to
be informed).
Some inspiration (mainly in the MTU DSA notifier) was taken from a
vaguely similar patch from Murali and Florian, who are credited as

'maxlen' is the total size of the destination buffer. There is only one
caller and this value is 256.
When we compute the size already used and what we would like to add in
the buffer, the trailling NULL character is not taken into account.
However, this trailling character will be added by the 'strcat' once we
have checked that we have enough place.
So, there is a off-by-one issue and 1 byte of the stack could be
erroneously overwridden.
Take into account the trailling NULL, when checking if there is enough
place in the destination buffer.
While at it, also replace a 'sprintf' by a safer 'snprintf', check for
output truncation and avoid a superfluous 'strlen'.

Change the rpcrdma_xprt_disconnect() function so that it no longer
waits for the DISCONNECTED event. This prevents blocking if the
remote is unresponsive.
In rpcrdma_xprt_disconnect(), the transport's rpcrdma_ep is
detached. Upon return from rpcrdma_xprt_disconnect(), the transport
(r_xprt) is ready immediately for a new connection.
The RDMA_CM_DEVICE_REMOVAL and RDMA_CM_DISCONNECTED events are now
handled almost identically.
However, because the lifetimes of rpcrdma_xprt structures and
rpcrdma_ep structures are now independent, creating an rpcrdma_ep
needs to take a module ref count. The ep now owns most of the
hardware resources for a transport.
Also, a kref is needed to ensure that rpcrdma_ep sticks around
long enough for the cm_event_handler to finish.

Move rdma_cm_id creation into rpcrdma_ep_create() so that it is now
responsible for allocating all per-connection hardware resources.
With this clean-up, all three arms of the switch statement in
rpcrdma_ep_connect are exactly the same now, thus the switch can be
removed.
Because device removal behaves a little differently than
disconnection, there is a little more work to be done before
rpcrdma_ep_destroy() can release the connection's rdma_cm_id. So
it is not quite symmetrical with rpcrdma_ep_create() yet.

Refactor rpcrdma_ep_create(), rpcrdma_ep_disconnect(), and
rpcrdma_ep_destroy().
rpcrdma_ep_create will be invoked at connect time instead of at
transport set-up time. It will be responsible for allocating per-
connection resources. In this patch it allocates the CQs and
creates a QP. More to come.
rpcrdma_ep_destroy() is the inverse functionality that is
invoked at disconnect time. It will be responsible for releasing
the CQs and QP.
These changes should be safe to do because both connect and
disconnect is guaranteed to be serialized by the transport send
lock.
This takes us another step closer to resolving the address and route
only at connect time so that connection failover to another device
will work correctly.

This is trivial since we already have support for the entirely
identical (from the kernel's point of view) RDNSS, DNSSL, etc. that
also contain opaque data that needs to be passed down to userspace
for further processing.
As specified in draft-ietf-6man-ra-pref64-09 (while it is still a draft,
it is purely waiting on the RFC Editor for cleanups and publishing):
PREF64 option contains lifetime and a (up to) 96-bit IPv6 prefix.
The 8-bit identifier of the option type as assigned by the IANA is 38.
Since we lack DNS64/NAT64/CLAT support in kernel at the moment,
thus this option should also be passed on to userland.

Implement support for the DEVLINK_CMD_REGION_NEW command for creating
snapshots. This new command parallels the existing
DEVLINK_CMD_REGION_DEL.
In order for DEVLINK_CMD_REGION_NEW to work for a region, the new
".snapshot" operation must be implemented in the region's ops structure.
The desired snapshot id must be provided. This helps avoid confusion on
the purpose of DEVLINK_CMD_REGION_NEW, and keeps the API simpler.
The requested id will be inserted into the xarray tracking the number of
snapshots using each id. If this id is already used by another snapshot
on any region, an error will be returned.

Each snapshot created for a devlink region must have an id. These ids
are supposed to be unique per "event" that caused the snapshot to be
created. Drivers call devlink_region_snapshot_id_get to obtain a new id
to use for a new event trigger. The id values are tracked per devlink,
so that the same id number can be used if a triggering event creates
multiple snapshots on different regions.
There is no mechanism for snapshot ids to ever be reused. Introduce an
xarray to store the count of how many snapshots are using a given id,
replacing the snapshot_id field previously used for picking the next id.
The devlink_region_snapshot_id_get() function will use xa_alloc to
insert an initial value of 1 value at an available slot between 0 and
U32_MAX.
The new __devlink_snapshot_id_increment() and
__devlink_snapshot_id_decrement() functions will be used to track how
many snapshots currently use an id.
Drivers must now call devlink_snapshot_id_put() in order to release
their reference of the snapshot id after adding region snapshots.
By tracking the total number of snapshots using a given id, it is
possible for the decrement() function to erase the id from the xarray
when it is not in use.
With this method, a snapshot id can become reused again once all
snapshots that referred to it have been deleted via
DEVLINK_CMD_REGION_DEL, and the driver has finished adding snapshots.
This work also paves the way to introduce a mechanism for userspace to
request a snapshot.

A future change is going to possibly add additional cases where this
function could fail. Refactor the function to return the snapshot id in

This ensures that snapshot ids cannot be confused with error values, and

In the commit f73b12812a
("tipc: improve throughput between nodes in netns"), we're missing a check
to handle TIPC_DIRECT_MSG type, it's still using old sending mechanism for
this message type. So, throughput improvement is not significant as
expected.
Besides that, when sending a large message with that type, we're also
handle wrong receiving queue, it should be enqueued in socket receiving
instead of multicast messages.
Fix this by adding the missing case for TIPC_DIRECT_MSG.

mac80211 used to check port authorization in the Data frame enqueue case
when going through start_xmit(). However, that authorization status may
change while the frame is waiting in a queue. Add a similar check in the
dequeue case to avoid sending previously accepted frames after
authorization change. This provides additional protection against
potential leaking of frames after a station has been disconnected and
the keys for it are being removed.

Ever since commit 2c94b8eca1 ("SUNRPC: Use au_rslack when computing

used to use au_cslack value which was nice and large and changed it to
au_rslack value which turns out to be too small.
Since 5.1, v3 mount with sec=krb5p fails against an Ontap server

If we know that we have an encrypted link (based on having had
a key configured for TX in the past) then drop all data frames
in the key selection handler if there's no key anymore.
This fixes an issue with mac80211 internal TXQs - there we can
buffer frames for an encrypted link, but then if the key is no
longer there when they're dequeued, the frames are sent without
encryption. This happens if a station is disconnected while the
frames are still on the TXQ.
Detecting that a link should be encrypted based on a first key
having been configured for TX is fine as there are no use cases
for a connection going from with encryption to no encryption.
With extended key IDs, however, there is a case of having a key
configured for only decryption, so we can't just trigger this
behaviour on a key being configured.

devlink_nl_cmd_eswitch_set_doit() doesn't hold devlink->lock mutex while
invoking driver callback. This is likely due to eswitch mode setting
involves adding/remove devlink ports, health reporters or
other devlink objects for a devlink device.
So it is driver responsiblity to ensure thread safe eswitch state
transition happening via either sriov legacy enablement or via devlink
eswitch set callback.
Therefore, get() callback should also be invoked without holding
devlink->lock mutex.
Vendor driver can use same internal lock which it uses during eswitch
mode set() callback.
This makes get() and set() implimentation symmetric in devlink core and
in vendor drivers.
Hence, remove holding devlink->lock mutex during eswitch get() callback.
Failing to do so results into below deadlock scenario when mlx5_core
driver is improved to handle eswitch mode set critical section invoked
by devlink and sriov sysfs interface in subsequent patch.
devlink_nl_cmd_eswitch_set_doit()
mlx5_eswitch_mode_set()
mutex_lock(esw->mode_lock) <- Lock A
[...]
register_devlink_port()
mutex_lock(&devlink->lock); <- lock B
mutex_lock(&devlink->lock); <- lock B
devlink_nl_cmd_eswitch_get_doit()
mlx5_eswitch_mode_get()
mutex_lock(esw->mode_lock) <- Lock A
In subsequent patch, mlx5_core driver uses its internal lock during
get() and set() eswitch callbacks.
Other drivers have been inspected which returns either constant during
get operations or reads the value from already allocated structure.
Hence it is safe to remove the lock in get( ) callback and let vendor
driver handle it.

Not only did this wheel did not need reinventing, but there is also
an issue with it: It doesn't remove the VLAN header in a way that
preserves the L2 payload checksum when that is being provided by the DSA
master hw. It should recalculate checksum both for the push, before
removing the header, and for the pull afterwards. But the current
implementation is quite dizzying, with pulls followed immediately
afterwards by pushes, the memmove is done before the push, etc. This
makes a DSA master with RX checksumming offload to print stack traces

when depleting the credits. It caused the throughput to be

Idleslope * (Port transmit rate / (Idleslope + |Sendslope|)) = Idleslope

Replace negations of nft_rbtree_interval_end() with a new helper,
nft_rbtree_interval_start(), wherever this helps to visualise the
problem at hand, that is, for all the occurrences except for the
comparison against given flags in __nft_rbtree_get().
This gets especially useful in the next patch.

...and return -ENOTEMPTY to the front-end on collision, -EEXIST if

Currently, the -EEXIST return code of ->insert() callbacks is ambiguous: it
might indicate that a given element (including intervals) already exists as
such, or that the new element would clash with existing ones.
If identical elements already exist, the front-end is ignoring this without
returning error, in case NLM_F_EXCL is not set. However, if the new element
can't be inserted due an overlap, we should report this to the user.
To this purpose, allow set back-ends to return -ENOTEMPTY on collision with
existing elements, translate that to -EEXIST, and return that to userspace,
no matter if NLM_F_EXCL was set.

ethtool -s veth1 wol g
ip link del veth1
Make sure dev_put() is called when ethtool_ops check fails.

Packet trap groups are now explicitly registered by drivers and not
implicitly registered when the packet traps are registered. Therefore,
there is no need to encode entire group structure the trap is associated
with inside the trap structure.
Instead, only pass the group identifier. Refer to it as initial group
identifier, as future patches will allow user space to move traps
between groups.

Currently, packet trap groups are implicitly registered by drivers upon
packet trap registration. When the traps are registered, each is
associated with a group and the group is created by devlink, if it does
not exist already.
This makes it difficult for drivers to pass additional attributes for
the groups.
Therefore, as a preparation for future patches that require passing
additional group attributes, add an API to explicitly register /
unregister these groups.
Next patches will convert existing drivers to use this API.
