of_platform_destroy does not work properly, since the tree
population test was iterating on all devices having as its parent
the given platform device.
The check was intended to check whether any other platform or amba
devices created by of_platform_populate were still populated, but
instead checked for every kind of device. This is wrong, since platform
devices typically create a subsystem regular device and set themselves
as parents.
Instead, go ahead and call the unregister functions for any devices
created with of_platform_populate. The driver core will take care of
unbinding drivers, and drivers are responsible for getting rid of any
child devices that weren't created by of_platform_populate.

The common early_init_dt_add_memory_arch takes the base and size
of a memory region as u64 types. The function never checks if
the base and size can actually fit in a phys_addr_t which may
be smaller than 64-bits. This may result in incorrect memory
being passed to memblock_add if the memory falls outside the
range of phys_addr_t. Add range checks for the base and size if
phys_addr_t is smaller than u64.

The evh_bytechan, hvc_opal and hvc_vio drivers all open code the parsing
of the stdout node in the device tree. This patch simplifies the driver

The devicetree has a binding for specifying the console device in the
/chosen node, but the kernel doesn't use it consistently. This change
adds an API for testing if a device node is a console, and adds a
preferred console entry if it is.
At the same time this patch removes the of_device_is_stdout_path() API
since it is unused.

Commit bf5db2f (microblaze: Use generic device.h) removes the
microblaze specific pdev_archdata and dma_mask.
At the same time, commit 591c1ee (of: configure the platform
device dma parameters) initializes the just removed field.
This causes all microblaze builds to fail.

Add a function to walk the list of subnodes of a mdio bus and look for
a node that matches the phy's address with its 'reg' property. If found,
set the of_node pointer for the phy. This allows auto-probed pyh
devices to be augmented by information passed in via DT.

Make of_find_node_by_path() handle aliases as prefixes. To make this
work the name search is refactored to search by path component instead
of by full string. This should be a more efficient search, and it makes

The of_update_property() is intented to update a property in a node
and if the property does not exist, will add it.
The second search of the property is possibly won't be found, that
maybe removed by other thread just before the second search begain.
Using the __of_find_property() and __of_add_property() instead and
move them into lock operations.

There is now a way to ensure all platform devices get a unique name when
populated from the device tree, and the DCR_NATIVE code path is broken
anyway. PowerPC Cell (PS3) is the only platform that actually uses this
path. Most likely nobody will notice if it is killed. Remove the code
and associated ugly #ifdef.
The user-visible impact of this patch is that any DCR device on Cell
will get a new name in the /sys/devices hierarchy.

The way the driver core is implemented, every device using the same bus
type is required to have a unique name because a symlink to each device
is created in the appropriate /sys/bus/*/devices directory, and two
identical names causes a collision.
The current code handles the requirement by using an globally
incremented counter that is appended to the device name. It works, but
it means any change to device registration will change the assigned
numbers. Instead, if we build up the name by using information from the
parent nodes, then it can be guaranteed to be unique without adding a
random number to the end of it.

of_set_phy_supported allows overwiting hardware capabilities of
a phy with values from the devicetree. of_set_phy_supported is
called right after phy_device_register in the assumption that
phy_probe is called from phy_device_register and the features
of the phy are already initialized. For the genphy driver this
is not true, here phy_probe is called later during phy_connect
time. phy_probe will then overwrite all settings done from
of_set_phy_supported
Fix this by moving of_set_phy_supported to the core phy code
and calling it from phy_probe.

This adds FDT parsing of {linux,}stdout-path to setup an early serial
console. Enabling of the early console is triggered with "earlycon"
(with no options) on the kernel command line.
Platforms must either have fixmap permanent mapping support,
have a functioning ioremap when early params are parsed, or explicitly
call early_init_dt_scan_chosen_serial from architecture code.

Copy u-boot's FDT address translation code from common/fdt_support. This
code was originally based on the kernel's unflattened DT address parsing
code.

Some Ethernet MACs have a "fixed link", and are not connected to a
normal MDIO-managed PHY device. For those situations, a Device Tree
binding allows to describe a "fixed link" using a special PHY node.
This patch adds:
* A documentation for the fixed PHY Device Tree binding.
* An of_phy_is_fixed_link() function that an Ethernet driver can call
on its PHY phandle to find out whether it's a fixed link PHY or
not. It should typically be used to know if
of_phy_register_fixed_link() should be called.
* An of_phy_register_fixed_link() function that instantiates the
fixed PHY into the PHY subsystem, so that when the driver calls
of_phy_connect(), the PHY device associated to the OF node will be
found.
These two additional functions also support the old fixed-link Device
Tree binding used on PowerPC platforms, so that ultimately, the
network device drivers for those platforms could be converted to use
of_phy_is_fixed_link() and of_phy_register_fixed_link() instead of
of_phy_connect_fixed_link(), while keeping compatibility with their
respective Device Tree bindings.

In "Device Tree powered" systems, platform devices are usually massively
populated with of_platform_populate() call, executed at some level of
initcalls, either by generic architecture or by platform-specific code.
There are situations though where certain devices must be created (and
bound with drivers) before all the others. This presents a challenge,
as devices created explicitly would be created again by
of_platform_populate().
This patch tries to solve that issue in a generic way, adding a
"populated" flag for a DT node description. Subsequent
of_platform_populate() will skip such nodes (and its children) in
a similar way to the non-available ones.
This patch also adds of_platform_depopulate() as an operation
complementary to the _populate() one. It removes a platform or an amba
device populated from the Device Tree, together with its all children
(leaving, however, devices without associated of_node untouched)
clearing the "populated" flag on the way.

Commit 75b57ecf9d ('of: Make device
nodes kobjects so they show up in sysfs') has turned Device Tree nodes
in kobjects and added a sysfs based representation for Device Tree
nodes. Since the sysfs logic is only available after the execution of
a core_initcall(), the patch took precautions in of_add_property() and
of_remove_property() to not do any sysfs related manipulation early in
the boot process.
However, it forgot to do the same for of_update_property(), which if
used early in the boot process (before core_initcalls have been
called), tries to call sysfs_remove_bin_file(), and crashes:

of_can_translate_address only checks some conditions for address
translation, but does not check other conditions like having range
properties. The checks it does do are redundant with
__of_address_translate. The only difference is printing a message or
not. Since we only have a single caller that does the full translation
anyway, just remove of_can_translate_address and quiet the error
message.

because they may not be globally unique. Just use the default naming with
a global index if the address cannot be translated instead.

Retrieve DMA configuration from DT and setup platform device's DMA
parameters. The DMA configuration in DT has to be specified using
"dma-ranges" and "dma-coherent" properties if supported.
We setup dma_pfn_offset using "dma-ranges" and dma_coherent_ops
using "dma-coherent" device tree properties.
The set_arch_dma_coherent_ops macro has to be defined by arch if
it supports coherent dma_ops. Otherwise, set_arch_dma_coherent_ops() is
declared as nop.

The of_dma_is_coherent() helper parses the given DT device
node to see if the "dma-coherent" property is supported and
returns true or false accordingly.
If the arch is always coherent or always noncoherent, then the default
DMA ops has to be specified accordingly.

Move the /memreserve/ processing and dtb memory reservations into
early_init_fdt_scan_reserved_mem. This converts arm, arm64, and powerpc
as they are the only users of early_init_fdt_scan_reserved_mem.
memblock_reserve is safe to call on the same region twice, so the
reservation check for the dtb in powerpc 32-bit reservations is safe to
remove.

Both powerpc and microblaze have the same FDT blob in debugfs feature.
Move this to common location and remove the powerpc and microblaze
implementations. This feature could become more useful when FDT
overlay support is added.
This changes the path of the blob from "$arch/flat-device-tree" to
"device-tree/flat-device-tree".

With libfdt support, we can take advantage of helper accessors in libfdt
for accessing the FDT header data. This makes the code more readable and
makes the FDT blob structure more opaque to the kernel. This also
prepares for removing struct boot_param_header completely.

The kernel FDT functions predate libfdt and are much more limited in
functionality. Also, the kernel functions and libfdt functions are
not compatible with each other because they have different definitions
of node offsets. To avoid this incompatibility and in preparation to
add more FDT parsing functions which will need libfdt, let's first
convert the existing code to use libfdt.
The FDT unflattening, top-level FDT scanning, and property retrieval
functions are converted to use libfdt. The scanning code should be
re-worked to be more efficient and understandable by using libfdt to
find nodes directly by path or compatible strings.

This is because we're wrongly trying to populate resources that are not
yet available. It's perfectly valid to create irqchips dynamically, so
let's fix up the issue by resolving the interrupt resources when
platform_get_irq is called.
And then we also need to accept the fact that some irqdomains do not
exist that early on, and only get initialized later on. So we can
make the current WARN_ON into just into a pr_debug().
We still attempt to populate irq resources when we create the devices.
This allows current drivers which don't use platform_get_irq to continue
to function. Once all drivers are fixed, this code can be removed.

ePAPR 1.1 defines the "stdout-path" property for specifying the console
device, but Linux currently only handles the older "linux,stdout-path"
property. This patch adds parsing for the new property name.

This makes the generic of_mdiobus_register parse the DT compatible string for
the pattern ethernet-phy-idAAAA.BBBB. If present it should be a value that
matches the phy-id register normally readable through MDIO.
When the ID is given the phy autoprobing is defeated and the phy is
created directly.
This is necessary to support phy's that cannot be autoprobed when
of_mdiobus_register is called. Specifically, my case has the phy in reset at
of_mdiobus_register, the reset is only released once the ethernet driver
starts, before it attaches to the phy.

After the move to having device nodes be proper kobjects the lifecycle
of the node needs to be controlled better.
At first convert of_add_node() in the unflattened functions to
of_init_node() which initializes the kobject so that of_node_get/put
work correctly even before of_init is called.
Afterwards introduce of_node_is_initialized & of_node_is_attached that
query the underlying kobject about the state (attached means kobj
is visible in sysfs)
Using that make sure the lifecycle of the tree is correct at all
times.

When the reserved memory patches hit -next, several legacy (non-DT) boot
failures were detected and bisected down to that commit. There needs to
be some sanity checking whether a DT is even present before parsing the
reserved ranges.

The same data is now available in sysfs, so we can remove the code
that exports it in /proc and replace it with a symlink to the sysfs
version.
Tested on versatile qemu model and mpc5200 eval board. More testing
would be appreciated.

Device tree nodes are already treated as objects, and we already want to
expose them to userspace which is done using the /proc filesystem today.
Right now the kernel has to do a lot of work to keep the /proc view in
sync with the in-kernel representation. If device_nodes are switched to
be kobjects then the device tree code can be a whole lot simpler. It
also turns out that switching to using /sysfs from /proc results in
smaller code and data size, and the userspace ABI won't change if
/proc/device-tree symlinks to /sys/firmware/devicetree/base.

This patch adds support for static (defined by 'reg' property) reserved
memory regions declared in device tree.
Memory blocks can be reliably reserved only during early boot. This must
happen before the whole memory management subsystem is initialized,
because we need to ensure that the given contiguous blocks are not yet
allocated by kernel. Also it must happen before kernel mappings for the
whole low memory are created, to ensure that there will be no mappings
(for reserved blocks). Typically, all this happens before device tree
structures are unflattened, so we need to get reserved memory layout
directly from fdt.

This patch adds a new struct of_endpoint which is then embedded in struct
v4l2_of_endpoint and contains the endpoint properties that are not V4L2
(or even media) specific: the port number, endpoint id, local device tree
node and remote endpoint phandle. of_graph_parse_endpoint parses those
properties and is used by v4l2_of_parse_endpoint, which just adds the
V4L2 MBUS information to the containing v4l2_of_endpoint structure.

This patch moves the parsing helpers used to parse connected graphs
in the device tree, like the video interface bindings documented in
Documentation/devicetree/bindings/media/video-interfaces.txt, from
drivers/media/v4l2-core/v4l2-of.c into drivers/of/base.c.
This allows to reuse the same parser code from outside the V4L2
framework, most importantly from display drivers.
The functions v4l2_of_get_next_endpoint, v4l2_of_get_remote_port,
and v4l2_of_get_remote_port_parent are moved. They are renamed to
of_graph_get_next_endpoint, of_graph_get_remote_port, and
of_graph_get_remote_port_parent, respectively.
Since there are not that many current users yet, switch all of
them to the new functions right away.

This branch contains a bug fix for the way devicetree code identifies
the type of device. Device drivers can contain a list of of_device_ids,
but it more than one entry will match, then the device driver may choose
the wrong one. Commit 105353145e, "match each node compatible against
all given matches first", was queued for v3.14 but ended up causing
other bugs. Commit 06b29e76a7 attempted to fix it but it had other bugs.
Merely reverting the fix and waiting until v3.15 isn't a good option
because there is code in v3.14 that depends on the revised behaviour to
boot.
This branch should finally fixes the problem correctly. This time
instead of just hoping that the patch is correct, this branch also adds
new testcases that validate the behaviour.
The changes in this branch are larger than I would like for a -rc pull,
but moving the test case data out of out of arch/arm so that it could be
validated on other architectures was important.

Translating an address from a PCI node of the device-tree into a CPU
physical address doesn't require the core PCI support. Those
translations are just related to the device tree itself.
The use case to translate an address from a PCI node without actually
using the PCI core support is when one needs to access the PCI
controller without accessing any PCI devices.
Marvell SoCs, such as Kirkwood, Dove or Armada XP for instance, come
with an IP of a PCI controller. In the registers of this controller
are stored the ID and the revision of a SoC. With this patch it will
be possible to read the SoC ID of a board without any PCI device and
then without the PCI core support.

Adds a selftest function for the of_match_node function. of_match_node
is supposed to handle precedence for the compatible property as well as
the name and device_type values. This patch adds some test case data and
a function that makes sure each test node matches against the correct
entry of an of_device_id table.
This code was written to verify the new of_match_node() implementation
that is an earlier part of this series.
