Add a new macro helper to combine the usual init sequence in drivers,
consisting of a kzalloc + devm_drm_dev_init + drmm_add_final_kfree
triplet. This allows us to remove the rather unsightly
drmm_add_final_kfree from all currently merged drivers.
The kerneldoc is only added for this new function. Existing kerneldoc
and examples will be udated at the very end, since once all drivers
are converted over to devm_drm_dev_alloc we can unexport a lot of
interim functions and make the documentation for driver authors a lot
cleaner and less confusing. There will be only one true way to
initialize a drm_device at the end of this, which is going to be
devm_drm_dev_alloc.

While we support using both tx slots for sideband transmissions, it
appears that DisplayPort devices in the field didn't end up doing a very
good job of supporting it. From section 5.2.1 of the DP 2.0
specification:
There are MST Sink/Branch devices in the field that do not handle
interleaved message transactions.
To facilitate message transaction handling by downstream devices, an
MST Source device shall generate message transactions in an atomic
manner (i.e., the MST Source device shall not concurrently interleave
multiple message transactions). Therefore, an MST Source device shall
clear the Message_Sequence_No value in the Sideband_MSG_Header to 0.
This might come as a bit of a surprise since the vast majority of hubs
will support using both tx slots even if they don't support interleaved
message transactions, and we've also been using both tx slots since MST
was introduced into the kernel.
However, there is one device we've had trouble getting working
consistently with MST for so long that we actually assumed it was just
broken: the infamous Dell P2415Qb. Previously this monitor would appear
to work sometimes, but in most situations would end up timing out
LINK_ADDRESS messages almost at random until you power cycled the whole
display. After reading section 5.2.1 in the DP 2.0 spec, some closer
investigation into this infamous display revealed it was only ever
timing out on sideband messages in the second TX slot.
Sure enough, avoiding the second TX slot has suddenly made this monitor
function perfectly for the first time in five years. And since they
explicitly mention this in the specification, I doubt this is the only
monitor out there with this issue. This might even explain explain the
seemingly harmless garbage sideband responses we would occasionally see
with MST hubs!
So - rewrite our sideband TX handlers to only support one TX slot. In
order to simplify our sideband handling now that we don't support
transmitting to multiple MSTBs at once, we also move all state tracking
for down replies from mstbs to the topology manager.

This reverts commit 6bb0942e8f.
Unfortunately it would appear that the rumors we've heard of sideband
message interleaving not being very well supported are true. On the
Lenovo ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 dock that I have, interleaved messages
appear to just get dropped:
[drm:drm_dp_mst_wait_tx_reply [drm_kms_helper]] timedout msg send
00000000571ddfd0 2 1
[dp_mst] txmsg cur_offset=2 cur_len=2 seqno=1 state=SENT path_msg=1 dst=00

[dp_mst] port=2
DP descriptor for this hub:
OUI 90-cc-24 dev-ID SYNA3 HW-rev 1.0 SW-rev 3.12 quirks 0x0008
It would seem like as well that this is a somewhat well known issue in
the field. From section 5.4.2 of the DisplayPort 2.0 specification:
There are MST Sink/Branch devices in the field that do not handle
interleaved message transactions.
To facilitate message transaction handling by downstream devices, an
MST Source device shall generate message transactions in an atomic
manner (i.e., the MST Source device shall not concurrently interleave
multiple message transactions). Therefore, an MST Source device shall
clear the Message_Sequence_No value in the Sideband_MSG_Header to 0.
MST Source devices that support field policy updates by way of
software should update the policy to forego the generation of
interleaved message transactions.
This is a bit disappointing, as features like HDCP require that we send
a sideband request every ~2 seconds for each active stream. However,
there isn't really anything in the specification that allows us to
accurately probe for interleaved messages.
If it ends up being that we -really- need this in the future, we might
be able to whitelist hubs where interleaving is known to work-or maybe
try some sort of heuristics. But for now, let's just play it safe and
not use it.

Analogix_dp driver acquires all its resources in the ->bind() callback,
what is a bit against the component driver based approach, where the
driver initialization is split into a probe(), where all resources are
gathered, and a bind(), where all objects are created and a compound
driver is initialized.
Extract all the resource related operations to analogix_dp_probe() and
analogix_dp_remove(), then call them before/after registration of the
device components from the main Exynos DP and Rockchip DP drivers. Also
move the plat_data initialization to the probe() to make it available for

Drive-by fix I noticed the other day - drm_dp_mst_has_audio() only ever
made sense back when we still had to validate ports before accessing
them in order to (attempt to) avoid NULL dereferences. Since we have
proper reference counting that guarantees we always can safely access
the MST port, there's no use in keeping this function around as all it
does is validate the port pointer before checking the audio status.
Note - drm_dp_mst_port->has_audio is technically protected by
drm_device->mode_config.connection_mutex, since it's only ever updated
from drm_dp_mst_get_edid(). Additionally, we change the declaration for
port in struct intel_connector to be properly typed, so we can directly
access it.

- we're issuing the ioctl from process other than the one which opened
the node, and
- we are, or were master in the past
This ensures that we:
- do not regress the systemd-logind style of DRM_MASTER arbitrator
- allow applications which do not use systemd-logind to drop their

Currently we have one down reply message servicing the mst manager, so
we need to serialize all tx msgs to ensure we only have one message in
flight at a time. For obvious reasons this is suboptimal (but less
suboptimal than the free-for-all we had before serialization).
This patch removes the single down_rep_recv message from manager and
adds 2 replies in the branch structure. The 2 replies mirrors the tx_slots

All collected together to provide a consistent story in one patch,
instead of the somewhat bumpy refactor-evolution leading to this.
Also some thoughts on what the next steps could be:
- Create a macro called devm_drm_dev_alloc() which essentially wraps
the kzalloc(); devm_drm_dev_init(); drmm_add_final_kfree() combo.
Needs to be a macro since we'll have to do some typeof trickery and
casting to make this fully generic for all drivers that embed struct
drm_device into their own thing.
- A lot of the simple drivers now have essentially just
drm_dev_unplug(); drm_atomic_helper_shutdown(); as their
$bus_driver->remove hook. We could create a devm_mode_config_reset
which sets drm_atomic_helper_shutdown as it's cleanup action, and a
devm_drm_dev_register with drm_dev_unplug as it's cleanup action,
and simple drivers wouldn't have a need for a ->remove function at
all, and we could delete them.
- For more complicated drivers we need drmm_ versions of a _lot_ more
things. All the userspace visible objects (crtc, plane, encoder,
crtc), anything else hanging of those (maybe a drmm_get_edid, at
least for panels and other built-in stuff).
Also some more thoughts on why we're not reusing devm_ with maybe a
fake struct device embedded into the drm_device (we can't use the
kdev, since that's in each drm_minor).
- Code review gets extremely tricky, since every time you see a devm_
you need to carefully check whether the fake device (with the
drm_device lifetim) or the real device (with the lifetim of the
underlying physical device and driver binding) are used. That's not
going to help at all, and we have enormous amounts of drivers who
use devm_ where they really shouldn't. Having different types makes
sure the compiler type checks this for us and ensures correctness.
- The set of functions are very much non-overlapping. E.g.
devm_ioremap makes total sense, drmm_ioremap has the wrong lifetime,
since hw resources need to be cleaned out at driver unbind and wont
outlive that like a drm_device. Similar, but other way round for
drmm_connector_init (which is the only correct version, devm_ for
drm_connector is just buggy). Simply not having the wrong version
again prevents bugs.
Finally I guess this opens a huge todo for all the drivers. I'm
semi-tempted to do a tree-wide s/devm_kzalloc/drmm_kzalloc/ since most
likely that'll fix an enormous amount of bugs and most likely not
cause any issues at all (aside from maybe holding onto memory slightly
too long).

drm_mode_config_cleanup is idempotent, so no harm in calling this
twice. This allows us to gradually switch drivers over by removing
explicit drm_mode_config_cleanup calls.
With this step it's now also possible that (at least for simple
drivers) automatic resource cleanup can be done correctly without a
drm_driver->release hook. Therefore allow this now in
devm_drm_dev_init().
Also with drmm_ explicit drm_driver->release hooks are kinda not the
best option: Drivers can always just register their current release
hook with drmm_add_action, but even better they could split them up to
simplify the unwinding for the driver load failure case. So deprecate
that hook to discourage future users.
v2: Fixup the example in the kerneldoc too.
v3:
- For paranoia, double check that minor->dev == dev in the release
hook, because I botched the pointer math in the drmm library.
- Call drm_mode_config_cleanup when drmm_add_action fails, we'd be
missing some mutex_destroy and ida_cleanup otherwise (Laurent)
v4: Add a drmm_add_action_or_reset (like devm_ has) to encapsulate this
pattern (Noralf).
v5: Fix oversight in the new drmm_add_action_or_reset macro (Noralf)
v4: Review from Sam:

- improve commit message, explain better why ->relase is deprecated
v5:

Nothing special here, except that this is the first time that we
automatically clean up something that's initialized with an explicit
driver call. But the cleanup was done at the very end of the release
sequence for all drivers, and that's still the case. At least without
more uses of drmm_ through explicit driver calls.
Also for this one we need drmm_kcalloc, so lets add those.
The motivation here is to allow us to remove the explicit calls to
drm_dev_fini() from all drivers.

The cleanup here is somewhat tricky, since we can't tell apart the
allocated minor index from 0. So register a cleanup action first, and
if the index allocation fails, unregister that cleanup action again to
avoid bad mistakes.
The kdev for the minor already handles NULL, so no problem there.
Hence add drmm_remove_action() to the drm_managed library.
v2: Make pointer math around void ** consistent with what Laurent

v3: Use drmm_add_action_or_reset and remove drmm_remove_action. Noticed

We have lots of these. And the cleanup code tends to be of dubious
quality. The biggest wrong pattern is that developers use devm_, which
ties the release action to the underlying struct device, whereas
all the userspace visible stuff attached to a drm_device can long
outlive that one (e.g. after a hotunplug while userspace has open
files and mmap'ed buffers). Give people what they want, but with more
correctness.
Mostly copied from devres.c, with types adjusted to fit drm_device and
a few simplifications - I didn't (yet) copy over everything. Since
the types don't match code sharing looked like a hopeless endeavour.
For now it's only super simplified, no groups, you can't remove
actions (but kfree exists, we'll need that soon). Plus all specific to
drm_device ofc, including the logging. Which I didn't bother to make
compile-time optional, since none of the other drm logging is compile
time optional either.
One tricky bit here is the chicken&egg between allocating your
drm_device structure and initiliazing it with drm_dev_init. For
perfect onion unwinding we'd need to have the action to kfree the
allocation registered before drm_dev_init registers any of its own
release handlers. But drm_dev_init doesn't know where exactly the
drm_device is emebedded into the overall structure, and by the time it
returns it'll all be too late. And forcing drivers to be able clean up
everything except the one kzalloc is silly.
Work around this by having a very special final_kfree pointer. This
also avoids troubles with the list head possibly disappearing from
underneath us when we release all resources attached to the
drm_device.
v2: Do all the kerneldoc at the end, to avoid lots of fairly pointless
shuffling while getting everything into shape.
v3: Add static to add/del_dr (Neil)
Move typo fix to the right patch (Neil)
v4: Enforce contract for drmm_add_final_kfree:
Use ksize() to check that the drm_device is indeed contained somewhere
in the final kfree(). Because we need that or the entire managed
release logic blows up in a pile of use-after-frees. Motivated by a
discussion with Laurent.
v5: Review from Laurent:
- %zu instead of casting size_t
- header guards
- sorting of includes
- guarding of data assignment if we didn't allocate it for a NULL
pointer
- delete spurious newline
- cast void* data parameter correctly in ->release call, no idea how
this even worked before
v6: Review from Sam
- Add the kerneldoc for the managed sub-struct back in, even if it
doesn't show up in the generated html somehow.
- Explain why __always_inline.
- Fix bisectability around the final kfree() in drm_dev_relase(). This
is just interim code which will disappear again.
- Some whitespace polish.
- Add debug output when drmm_add_action or drmm_kmalloc fail.
v7: My bisectability fix wasn't up to par as noticed by smatch.
v8: Remove unecessary {} around if else
v9: Use kstrdup_const, which requires kfree_const and introducing a free_dr()
helper (Thomas).
v10: kfree_const goes boom on the plain "kmalloc" assignment, somehow

This fixes a problem found on the MacBookPro 2017 Retina panel.
The panel reports 10 bpc color depth in its EDID, and the
firmware chooses link settings at boot which support enough
bandwidth for 10 bpc (324000 kbit/sec = multiplier 0xc),
but the DP_MAX_LINK_RATE dpcd register only reports
2.7 Gbps (multiplier value 0xa) as possible, in direct
contradiction of what the firmware successfully set up.
This restricts the panel to 8 bpc, not providing the full
color depth of the panel.

Allow allocating a specialized version of struct drm_framebuffer
by moving the actual fb allocation out of drm_gem_fb_create_with_funcs();
the respective functions names are adjusted to reflect that fact.
Please note, though, that standard size checks are performed on buffers,
so the drm_gem_fb_init_with_funcs() is useful for cases where those
standard size checks are appropriate or at least don't conflict the
checks to be performed in the specialized case.
Thanks to this change the drivers can call drm_gem_fb_init_with_funcs()
having allocated their special version of struct drm_framebuffer, exactly
the way the new version of drm_gem_fb_create_with_funcs() does.

DisplayPort specifications are fun. For a while, it's been really
unclear to us what available_pbn actually does. There's a somewhat vague
explanation in the DisplayPort spec (starting from 1.2) that partially
explains it:
The minimum payload bandwidth number supported by the path. Each node
updates this number with its available payload bandwidth number if its
payload bandwidth number is less than that in the Message Transaction
reply.
So, it sounds like available_pbn represents the smallest link rate in
use between the source and the branch device. Cool, so full_pbn is just
the highest possible PBN that the branch device supports right?
Well, we assumed that for quite a while until Sean Paul noticed that on
some MST hubs, available_pbn will actually get set to 0 whenever there's
any active payloads on the respective branch device. This caused quite a
bit of confusion since clearing the payload ID table would end up fixing
the available_pbn value.
So, we just went with that until commit cd82d82cbc ("drm/dp_mst: Add
branch bandwidth validation to MST atomic check") started breaking
people's setups due to us getting erroneous available_pbn values. So, we
did some more digging and got confused until we finally looked at the
definition for full_pbn:
The bandwidth of the link at the trained link rate and lane count
between the DP Source device and the DP Sink device with no time slots
allocated to VC Payloads, represented as a Payload Bandwidth Number. As
with the Available_Payload_Bandwidth_Number, this number is determined
by the link with the lowest lane count and link rate.
That's what we get for not reading specs closely enough, hehe. So, since
full_pbn is definitely what we want for doing bandwidth restriction
checks - let's start using that instead and ignore available_pbn
entirely.

The current codebase makes use of the zero-length array language
extension to the C90 standard, but the preferred mechanism to declare
variable-length types such as these ones is a flexible array member[1][2],
introduced in C99:
struct foo {
int stuff;
struct boo array[];
};
By making use of the mechanism above, we will get a compiler warning
in case the flexible array does not occur last in the structure, which
will help us prevent some kind of undefined behavior bugs from being
inadvertently introduced[3] to the codebase from now on.
Also, notice that, dynamic memory allocations won't be affected by
this change:
"Flexible array members have incomplete type, and so the sizeof operator
may not be applied. As a quirk of the original implementation of
zero-length arrays, sizeof evaluates to zero."[1]
This issue was found with the help of Coccinelle.

The X1 Extreme is one of the systems that lies about which backlight
interface that it uses in its VBIOS as PWM backlight controls don't work
at all on this machine. It's possible that this panel could be one of
the infamous ones that can switch between PWM mode and DPCD backlight
control mode, but we haven't gotten any more details on this from Lenovo
just yet. For the time being though, making sure the backlight 'just
works' is a bit more important.
So, add a quirk to force DPCD backlight controls on for these systems
based on EDID (since this panel doesn't appear to fill in the device ID).
Hopefully in the future we'll figure out a better way of probing this.

The whole point of using OUIs is so that we can recognize certain
devices and potentially apply quirks for them. Normally this should work
quite well, but there appears to be quite a number of laptop panels out
there that will fill the OUI but not the device ID. As such, for devices
like this I can't imagine it's a very good idea to try relying on OUIs
for applying quirks. As well, some laptop vendors have confirmed to us
that their panels have this exact issue.
So, let's introduce the ability to apply DP quirks based on EDID
identification. We reuse the same quirk bits for OUI-based quirks, so
that callers can simply check all possible quirks using
drm_dp_has_quirk().

Most bridge drivers create a DRM connector to model the connector at the
output of the bridge. This model is historical and has worked pretty
well so far, but causes several issues:
- It prevents supporting more complex display pipelines where DRM
connector operations are split over multiple components. For instance a
pipeline with a bridge connected to the DDC signals to read EDID data,
and another one connected to the HPD signal to detect connection and
disconnection, will not be possible to support through this model.
- It requires every bridge driver to implement similar connector
handling code, resulting in code duplication.
- It assumes that a bridge will either be wired to a connector or to
another bridge, but doesn't support bridges that can be used in both
positions very well (although there is some ad-hoc support for this in
the analogix_dp bridge driver).
In order to solve these issues, ownership of the connector needs to be
moved to the display controller driver.
To avoid code duplication in display controller drivers, add a new
helper to create and manage a DRM connector backed by a chain of
bridges. All connector operations are delegating to the appropriate
bridge in the chain.

Extend the bridge API to allow disabling connector creation in bridge

the bridge .attach() operation allows instructing the bridge driver to
skip creating a connector. Unconditionally set the new flags argument to

real CRC value of the last edid data block, and write it back.
Current edid CRC calculates routine adds the last CRC byte,

This behavior is not accurate; actually, we need to return

The new callback get_scanout_position() reads the current location
of the scanout process. The operation is currently located in struct

To help with the conversion, the timestamp calculation has been
moved from drm_calc_vbltimestamp_from_scanoutpos() to

function supports the new and old interface of get_scanout_position().
drm_calc_vbltimestamp_from_scanoutpos() remains as a wrapper around
the new function.

Instead check for master status, in case we've raced.
This is the last exception to the general rule that we restore fbcon
only when there's no master active. Compositors are supposed to drop
their master status before they switch to a different console back to
text mode (or just switch to text mode directly, without a vt switch).
This is known to break some subtests of kms_fbcon_fbt in igt, but they're
just wrong - it does a graphics/text mode switch for the vt without

drm_bridge_state is extended to describe the input and output bus
configurations. These bus configurations are exposed through the
drm_bus_cfg struct which encodes the configuration of a physical
bus between two components in an output pipeline, usually between
two bridges, an encoder and a bridge, or a bridge and a connector.
The bus configuration is stored in drm_bridge_state separately for
the input and output buses, as seen from the point of view of each
bridge. The bus configuration of a bridge output is usually identical
to the configuration of the next bridge's input, but may differ if
the signals are modified between the two bridges, for instance by an
inverter on the board. The input and output configurations of a
bridge may differ if the bridge modifies the signals internally,
for instance by performing format conversion, or*modifying signals
polarities.
Bus format negotiation is automated by the core, drivers just have
to implement the ->atomic_get_{output,input}_bus_fmts() hooks if they
want to take part to this negotiation. Negotiation happens in reverse
order, starting from the last element of the chain (the one directly
connected to the display) up to the first element of the chain (the one
connected to the encoder).
During this negotiation all supported formats are tested until we find
one that works, meaning that the formats array should be in decreasing
preference order (assuming the driver has a preference order).
Note that the bus format negotiation works even if some elements in the
chain don't implement the ->atomic_get_{output,input}_bus_fmts() hooks.
In that case, the core advertises only MEDIA_BUS_FMT_FIXED and lets
the previous bridge element decide what to do (most of the time, bridge
drivers will pick a default bus format or extract this piece of
information from somewhere else, like a FW property).

At the end of a commit, atomic helpers can generate a fake VBLANK event
automatically. Originally implemented for writeback connectors, the
functionality can be used by any driver and/or hardware without proper
VBLANK interrupt.
The patch updates the documentation to make this behaviour official:
settings struct drm_crtc_state.no_vblank to true enables automatic
generation of fake VBLANK events.
The new interface drm_dev_has_vblank() returns true if vblanking has
been initialized for a device, or false otherwise. Atomic helpers use
this function when initializing no_vblank in the CRTC state in
drm_atomic_helper_check_modeset(). If vblanking has been initialized
for a device, no_blank is disabled. Otherwise it's enabled. Hence,
atomic helpers will automatically send out fake VBLANK events with any
driver that did not initialize vblanking.

With the drm device model that we've slowly evolved over the past few
years master status essentially controls access to display resources,
and nothing else. Since that's a pure access permission check drivers
should have no need at all to track additional state on a per file
basis.
Aside: For cleanup and restoring kernel-internal clients the grand
plan is to move everyone over to drm_client and
drm_master_internal_acquire/release, like the generic fbdev code
already does. That should get rid of most ->lastclose implementations,
and I think also subsumes any processing vmwgfx does in

Since drm_global_mutex is a true global mutex across devices, we don't
want to acquire it unless absolutely necessary. For maintaining the
device local open_count, we can use atomic operations on the counter
itself, except when making the transition to/from 0. Here, we tackle the
easy portion of delaying acquiring the drm_global_mutex for the final
release by using atomic_dec_and_mutex_lock(), leaving the global
serialisation across the device opens.

The file is not part of the global drm resource and can be released
prior to take the global mutex to drop the open_count (and potentially
close) the drm device. As the global mutex is indeed global, not only
within the device but across devices, a slow file release mechanism can
bottleneck the entire system.
However, inside drm_close_helper() there are a number of dev->driver
callbacks that take the drm_device as the first parameter... Worryingly
some of those callbacks may be (implicitly) depending on the global
mutex.
v2: Drop the debug message for the open-count, it's included with the
drm_file_free() debug message -- and for good measure make that up as
reading outside of the mutex.
v3: Separate the calling of the filp cleanup outside of
drm_global_mutex into a new drm_release_noglobal() hook, so that we can
phase the transition. drm/savage relies on the global mutex, and there
may be more, so be cautious.

Knowing the device specific information in the backtrace would be

[Why]
Noticed this while testing MST with the 4 ports MST hub from
StarTech.com. Sometimes can't light up monitors normally and get the
error message as 'sideband msg build failed'.
Look into aux transactions, found out that source sometimes will send
out another down request before receiving the down reply of the
previous down request. On the other hand, in drm_dp_get_one_sb_msg(),
current code doesn't handle the interleaved replies case. Hence, source
can't build up message completely and can't light up monitors.
[How]
For good compatibility, enforce source to send out one down request at a
time. Add a flag, is_waiting_for_dwn_reply, to determine if the source
can send out a down request immediately or not.
- Check the flag before calling process_single_down_tx_qlock to send out
a msg
- Set the flag when successfully send out a down request
- Clear the flag when successfully build up a down reply
- Clear the flag when find erros during sending out a down request
- Clear the flag when find errors during building up a down reply
- Clear the flag when timeout occurs during waiting for a down reply
- Use drm_dp_mst_kick_tx() to try to send another down request in queue
at the end of drm_dp_mst_wait_tx_reply() (attempt to send out messages
in queue when errors occur)

Not every platform needs quirk detection for panel orientation, so
split the drm_connector_init_panel_orientation_property into two
functions. One for platforms without the need for quirks, and the
other for platforms that need quirks.
Hans de Goede (changes in v2):
Rename the function from drm_connector_init_panel_orientation_property
to drm_connector_set_panel_orientation[_with_quirk] and pass in the
panel-orientation to set.
Beside the rename, also make the function set the passed in value
only once, if the value was set before (to a value other then
DRM_MODE_PANEL_ORIENTATION_UNKNOWN) make any further set calls a no-op.
This change is preparation for allowing the user to override the
panel-orientation for any connector from the kernel commandline.
When the panel-orientation is overridden this way, then we must ignore
the panel-orientation detection done by the driver.

The new helper drm_of_lvds_get_dual_link_pixel_order() introduced in
commit 6529007522 has a fallback stub when CONFIG_OF is not set, but
the stub is declared in drm_of.h without a static inline. This causes
multiple definitions of the function to be linked when the CONFIG_OF
option isn't set. Fix it by making the stub static inline.

TTM is an implementation detail of the VRAM helpers and therefore
shouldn't be exposed to the callers. There's only one correct value
for the BO device anyway, which is the one stored in the DRM device.
So remove struct ttm_bo_device from the VRAM-helper interface and
use the device's VRAM manager unconditionally. The GEM initializer
function fails if the VRAM manager has not been initialized.

drm_bridge_state is extended to describe the input and output bus
configurations.

So that bridge drivers have a way to check/reject an atomic operation.
The drm_atomic_bridge_chain_check() (which is just a wrapper around
the ->atomic_check() hook) is called in place of
drm_bridge_chain_mode_fixup() (when ->atomic_check() is not implemented,
the core falls back on ->mode_fixup(), so the behavior should stay
the same for existing bridge drivers).

An LVDS dual-link connection is made of two links, with even
pixels transitting on one link, and odd pixels on the other
link. The device tree can be used to fully describe dual-link
LVDS connections between encoders and bridges/panels.
The sink of an LVDS dual-link connection is made of two ports,
the corresponding OF graph port nodes can be marked
with either dual-lvds-even-pixels or dual-lvds-odd-pixels,
and that fully describes an LVDS dual-link connection,
including pixel order.
drm_of_lvds_get_dual_link_pixel_order is a new helper
added by this patch, given the source port nodes it
returns DRM_LVDS_DUAL_LINK_EVEN_ODD_PIXELS if the source
port nodes belong to an LVDS dual-link connection, with even
pixels expected to be generated from the first port, and odd
pixels expected to be generated from the second port.
If the new helper returns DRM_LVDS_DUAL_LINK_ODD_EVEN_PIXELS,
odd pixels are expected to be generated from the first port,
and even pixels from the other port.

Add new struct drm_device based logging macros modeled after the core
kernel device based logging macros. These would be preferred over the
drm printk and struct device based macros in drm code, where possible.
We have existing drm specific struct device based logging functions, but
they are too verbose to use for two main reasons:
* The names are unnecessarily long, for example DRM_DEV_DEBUG_KMS().
* The use of struct device over struct drm_device is too generic for
most users, leading to an extra dereference.
For example:
DRM_DEV_DEBUG_KMS(drm->dev, "Hello, world\n");
vs.
drm_dbg_kms(drm, "Hello, world\n");
It's a matter of taste, but the SHOUTING UPPERCASE has been argued to be
less readable than lowercase.
Some names are changed from old DRM names to be based on the core kernel
logging functions. For example, NOTE -> notice, ERROR -> err, DEBUG ->
dbg.
Due to the conflation of DRM_DEBUG and DRM_DEBUG_DRIVER macro use
(DRM_DEBUG is used widely in drivers though it's supposed to be a core
debugging category), they are named as drm_dbg_core and drm_dbg,
respectively.
The drm_err and _once/_ratelimited variants no longer include the
function name in order to be able to use the core device based logging
macros. Arguably this is not a significant change; error messages should
not be so common to be only distinguishable by the function name.
Ratelimited debug logging macros are to be added later.

Sometimes we want to override a connector's panel_orientation from the
kernel commandline. Either for testing and for special cases, e.g. a kiosk
like setup which uses a TV mounted in portrait mode.
Users can already specify a "rotate" option through a video= kernel cmdline
option. But that only supports 0/180 degrees (see drm_client_modeset TODO)
and only works for in kernel modeset clients, not for userspace kms users.
The "panel-orientation" connector property OTOH does support 90/270 degrees
as it leaves dealing with the rotation up to userspace and this does work
for userspace kms clients (at least those which support this property).
Changes in v2:

The timing values for dw-dsi are often dependent on the used display and
according to Philippe Cornu will most likely also depend on the used phy
technology in the soc-specific implementation.
To solve this and allow specific implementations to define them as needed
add a new get_timing callback to phy_ops and call this from the dphy_timing
function to retrieve the necessary values for the specific mode.
Right now this handles the hs2lp + lp2hs where Rockchip SoCs need handling
according to the phy speed, while STM seems to be ok with static values.
changes in v5:
- rebase on 5.5-rc1
- merge into px30 dsi series to prevent ordering conflicts
changes in v4:
- rebase to make it directly fit on top of drm-misc-next after all
changes in v3:
- check existence of phy_ops->get_timing in __dw_mipi_dsi_probe()
- emit actual error when get_timing() call fails
- add tags from Philippe and Yannick
changes in v2:
- add driver-specific handling, don't force all bridge users to use

The panel drivers used drm_panel.drm for two purposes:
1) Argument to drm_mode_duplicate()
2) drm->dev was used in error messages
The first usage is replaced with drm_connector.dev
- drm_connector is already connected to a drm_device
and we have a valid connector
The second usage is replaced with drm_panel.dev
- this makes drivers more consistent in their dev argument
used for dev_err() and friends
With these replacements there are no more uses of drm_panel.drm,
so it is removed from struct drm_panel.
With this change drm_panel_attach() and drm_panel_detach()
no longer have any use as they are empty functions.

Panels often support backlight as specified in a device tree.
Update the drm_panel infrastructure to support this to
simplify the drivers.
With this the panel driver just needs to add the following to the
probe() function:
err = drm_panel_of_backlight(panel);
if (err)
return err;
Then drm_panel will handle all the rest.
There is one caveat with the backlight support.
If drm_panel_(enable|disable) are called multiple times
in a row then backlight_(enable|disable) will be called multiple times.
The above will happen when a panel drivers unconditionally
calls drm_panel_disable() in their shutdown() function,
whan the panel is already disabled and then shutdown() is called.
Reading the backlight code it seems safe to call
the backlight_(enable|disable) several times.

We are about to replace the single-linked bridge list by a double-linked
one based on list.h, leading to the suppression of the encoder->bridge
field. But before we can do that we must provide a
drm_bridge_chain_get_first_bridge() bridge helper and patch all drivers
and core helpers to use it instead of directly accessing encoder->bridge.
Note that we still have 2 drivers (VC4 and Exynos) manipulating the
encoder->bridge field directly because they need to cut the bridge chain
in order to control the enable/disable sequence. This is definitely
not something we want to encourage, so let's keep those 2 oddities
around until we find a better solution.

It seems that on certain MST hubs, namely the CableMatters USB-C 2x DP
hub, using the DP_PAYLOAD_ALLOCATE_SET and DP_PAYLOAD_TABLE_UPDATE_STATUS
register ranges to clear any pre-existing payload allocations on the hub isn't
always enough to reset things if the source device has been reset unexpectedly.
Or at least, that's the current running theory. The precise behavior appears to
be that when the source device gets reset unexpectedly, the hub begins reporting
an available_pbn value of 0 for all of its ports. This is a bit inconsistent
with the our theory, since this seems to happen even if previously set PBN
allocations should have resulted in a non-zero available_pbn value. So, it's
possible that something else may be going on here.
Strangely though, sending a CLEAR_PAYLOAD_ID_TABLE broadcast request when
initializing the MST topology seems to bring things into working order and make
available_pbn work again. Since this is a pretty safe solution, let's go ahead
and implement it.
Changes since v1:
* Change indenting on drm_dp_send_clear_payload_id_table() prototype
* Remove some braces in drm_dp_send_clear_payload_id_table()

Merge tag 'drm-vmwgfx-coherent-2019-11-29' of git://anongit.freedesktop.org/drm/drm
Pull drm coherent memory support for vmwgfx from Dave Airlie:
"This is a separate pull for the mm pagewalking + drm/vmwgfx work
Thomas did and you were involved in, I've left it separate in case you
don't feel as comfortable with it as the other stuff.
It has mm acks/r-b in the right places from what I can see"

drm/vmwgfx: Add surface dirty-tracking callbacks
drm/vmwgfx: Implement an infrastructure for read-coherent resources
drm/vmwgfx: Use an RBtree instead of linked list for MOB resources
drm/vmwgfx: Implement an infrastructure for write-coherent resources
mm: Add write-protect and clean utilities for address space ranges
mm: Add a walk_page_mapping() function to the pagewalk code
mm: pagewalk: Take the pagetable lock in walk_pte_range()
mm: Remove BUG_ON mmap_sem not held from xxx_trans_huge_lock()
drm/ttm: Convert vm callbacks to helpers
drm/ttm: Remove explicit typecasts of vm_private_data
This thing can get called several thousand times per LUT
so seems like we want to inline it to:
- avoid the function call overhead
- allow constant folding
A quick synthetic test (w/o any hardware interaction) with
a ridiculously large LUT size shows about 50% reduction in
runtime on my HSW and BSW boxes. Slightly less with more
reasonable LUT size but still easily measurable in tens
of microseconds.

Graphics APIs like OpenGL 4.4 and Vulkan require the graphics driver
to provide coherent graphics memory, meaning that the GPU sees any
content written to the coherent memory on the next GPU operation that
touches that memory, and the CPU sees any content written by the GPU
to that memory immediately after any fence object trailing the GPU
operation is signaled.
Paravirtual drivers that otherwise require explicit synchronization
needs to do this by hooking up dirty tracking to pagefault handlers
and buffer object validation.
Provide mm helpers needed for this and that also allow for huge pmd-
and pud entries (patch 1-3), and the associated vmwgfx code (patch 4-7).
The code has been tested and exercised by a tailored version of mesa
where we disable all explicit synchronization and assume graphics memory
is coherent. The performance loss varies of course; a typical number is
around 5%.

There have been some significant changes in the core side, both for
ALSA and ASoC, while lots of development have been seen in SOF, as
well as many small fixes/improvements for ASoC codecs and platforms.
Below is a highlight in this cycle:
Core:
- The unification of PCM vmalloc buffer allocation helpers into the
standard API
- Clean up of the default PCM mmap handling for vmalloc & SG-buffer
- Fix potential races at ALSA timer open
- A few new PCM API extensions; just preliminary core changes, the
actual changes in drivers will be merged in 5.6

common ASoC component object. A lot of refactoring and
simplification have been done along with it.
ASoC:
- Many fixes to the Sound Open Firmware (SOF) code
- Wake on voice support for Chromebooks
- SPI support and trigger word detection for RT5677
- New drivers for Analog Devices ADAU7118, Intel Cannonlake systems
with RT1011 and RT5682, Texas Instruments TAS2562 and TAS2770

- Lots of refactoring and cleanups for FireWire; period-size sharing,
h/w IRQ interval configuration, clock recovery improvements, etc
- USB-audio: Scarlett mixer quirks
- Cleanups of PCM calls in various drivers (including media and USB)
to adapt the core API changes

The ATI Rage 128 driver has been the only user of ATI PCI GART code
since Radeon dropped UMS support in commit 8333f607a6 ("drm/radeon:
remove UMS support"). Clean up the drm top level directory, Kconfig and
Makefile by making ati_pcigart.[ch] part of r128. Drop the
CONFIG_DRM_ATI_PCIGART config option made redundant by the change.
This reduces drm.ko module size slightly when legacy drivers are
enabled, and moves the baggage to r128.ko instead.

Merge v5.4-rc7 into drm-next
We have the i915 security fixes to backmerge, but first
let's clear the decks for other drivers to avoid a bigger
mess.

Not sure we don't yet have this as a patch somewhere ...
Motivation is that the automatic lifetime management of the generic fbdev
code is quite tricky, and it'll get even more tricky. Allowing drivers
to just use the fb_probe looks like a recipe for disaster.

Currently, we only export symbols for drm-selftests which are either
compiled as modules or into the main drm builtin. However, if we want to
export symbols from drm.ko for the drivers' selftests, we require a
means of controlling that export separately. So we add a new Kconfig to

new incoming state after drm_atomic_helper_commit_hw_done(). But this
state might have already been superceeded by an !nonblock atomic update
resulting in dereferencing an already free'd crtc_state.
TODO I *think* this will more or less do the right thing.. althought I'm
not 100% sure if, for example, we enter psr in a nonblock commit, and
then leave psr in a !nonblock commit that overtakes the completion of

Commit c40069cb7b ("drm: add mmap() to drm_gem_object_funcs")
introduced a GEM object mmap() hook which is expected to subtract the
fake offset from vm_pgoff. However, for mmap() on dmabufs, there is not
a fake offset.
To fix this, let's always call mmap() object callback with an offset of 0,
and leave it up to drm_gem_mmap_obj() to remove the fake offset.
TTM still needs the fake offset, so we have to add it back until that's
fixed.

Allow codec driver register callback function for plug event.
The callback registration flow:
dw-hdmi <--- hw-hdmi-i2s-audio <--- hdmi-codec
dw-hdmi-i2s-audio implements hook_plugged_cb op
so codec driver can register the callback.
dw-hdmi exports a function dw_hdmi_set_plugged_cb so platform device
can register the callback.
When connector plug/unplug event happens, report this event using the
callback.
Make sure that audio and drm are using the single source of truth for
connector status.
