Laurent Pinchart bdc2df62ae [media] v4l: vsp1: uds: Fix scaling of alpha layer
Pixel color components can be scaled using either bilinear interpolation
or a multitap filter. The multitap filter provides better results, but
can't be selected when the alpha layer need to be scaled down by more
than 1/2.

Disable alpha scaling when the input has a fixed alpha value, and
program the UDS to output a fixed alpha value in that case. This ensures
the multitap filter will be used whenever possible.

Laurent Pinchart d6c71e8ceb [media] v4l: vsp1: wpf: Clear RPF to WPF association at stream off time
The VSP1 stores the video pipelines' input (RPF) to output (WPF)
mappings in a WPF register. An RPF must never be associated with
multiple WPFs, even if all of those WPFs but one are unused, otherwise
the hardware won't function properly.

The driver doesn't ensure this correctly as it never clears the
mappings. An RPF used with one WPF and later with a different WPF will
lead to malfunction, as it will be associated with two WPFs. Clear the
mappings at stream off time to fix this.

Laurent Pinchart 960de2cff4 [media] v4l: vsp1: Setup control handler automatically at stream on time
When setting a control directly on a subdev node the VSP1 driver doesn't
guarantee that the device is powered on. This leads to crashes when the
control handlers writes to hardware registers. One easy way to fix this
is to ensure that the device gets powered on when a subdev node is
opened. However, this consumes power unnecessarily, as there's no need
to power the device on when setting formats on the pipeline.
Furthermore, control handler setup at entity init time suffers from the
same problem as the device isn't powered on easier.

Fix this by extend the entity base object to setup the control handler
automatically when starting the stream. Entities must then skip writing
to registers in the set control handler when not streaming, which can be
tested with the new vsp1_entity_is_streaming() helper function.

Laurent Pinchart bd994ddb2a [media] v4l: vb2: Fix stream start and buffer completion race
videobuf2 stores the driver streaming state internally in the queue in
the start_streaming_called variable. The state is set right after the
driver start_stream operation returns, and checked in the
vb2_buffer_done() function, typically called from the frame completion
interrupt handler. A race condition exists if the hardware finishes
processing the first frame before the start_stream operation returns.

Fix this by setting start_streaming_called to 1 before calling the
start_stream operation, and resetting it to 0 if the operation fails.

Laurent Pinchart d52e238136 [media] v4l: Support extending the v4l2_pix_format structure
The v4l2_pix_format structure has no reserved field. It is embedded in
the v4l2_framebuffer structure which has no reserved fields either, and
in the v4l2_format structure which has reserved fields that were not
previously required to be zeroed out by applications.

To allow extending v4l2_pix_format, inline it in the v4l2_framebuffer
structure, and use the priv field as a magic value to indicate that the
application has set all v4l2_pix_format extended fields and zeroed all
reserved fields following the v4l2_pix_format field in the v4l2_format
structure.

The availability of this API extension is reported to userspace through
the new V4L2_CAP_EXT_PIX_FORMAT capability flag. Just checking that the
priv field is still set to the magic value at [GS]_FMT return wouldn't
be enough, as older kernels don't zero the priv field on return.

To simplify the internal API towards drivers zero the extended fields
and set the priv field to the magic value for applications not aware of
the extensions.

Commit 0ba2aeb6da increased the internal control ranges
to 64 bit, but that caused problems in drivers that use the minimum/maximum/step/default_value
control values in a division or modulus operations since not all architectures support
those natively.

Luckily, in almost all cases it is possible to just cast to 32 bits (the control value
is known to be 32 bits, so it is safe to cast). Only in v4l2-ctrls.c was it necessary to

NeilBrown 743162013d sched: Remove proliferation of wait_on_bit() action functions
The current "wait_on_bit" interface requires an 'action'
function to be provided which does the actual waiting.
There are over 20 such functions, many of them identical.
Most cases can be satisfied by one of just two functions, one
which uses io_schedule() and one which just uses schedule().

So:
 Rename wait_on_bit and wait_on_bit_lock to
        wait_on_bit_action and wait_on_bit_lock_action
to make it explicit that they need an action function.

 Introduce new wait_on_bit{,_lock} and wait_on_bit{,_lock}_io
which are *not* given an action function but implicitly use
 a standard one.
The decision to error-out if a signal is pending is now made
based on the 'mode' argument rather than being encoded in the action
 function.

All instances of the old wait_on_bit and wait_on_bit_lock which
can use the new version have been changed accordingly and their
 action functions have been discarded.
wait_on_bit{_lock} does not return any specific error code in the
event of a signal so the caller must check for non-zero and
interpolate their own error code as appropriate.

The wait_on_bit() call in __fscache_wait_on_invalidate() was
ambiguous as it specified TASK_UNINTERRUPTIBLE but used
fscache_wait_bit_interruptible as an action function.
David Howells confirms this should be uniformly
"uninterruptible"

The main remaining user of wait_on_bit{,_lock}_action is NFS
which needs to use a freezer-aware schedule() call.

A comment in fs/gfs2/glock.c notes that having multiple 'action'
functions is useful as they display differently in the 'wchan'
field of 'ps'. (and /proc/$PID/wchan).
As the new bit_wait{,_io} functions are tagged "__sched", they
will not show up at all, but something higher in the stack. So
the distinction will still be visible, only with different
function names (gds2_glock_wait versus gfs2_glock_dq_wait in the
gfs2/glock.c case).

Since first version of this patch (against 3.15) two new action
functions appeared, on in NFS and one in CIFS. CIFS also now
uses an action function that makes the same freezer aware
schedule call as NFS.

Hans Verkuil 3445857b22 [media] hdpvr: fix two audio bugs
When the audio encoding is changed the driver calls hdpvr_set_audio
with the current opt->audio_input value. However, that should have
been opt->audio_input + 1. So changing the audio encoding inadvertently
changes the input as well. This bug has always been there.

The second bug was introduced in kernel 3.10 and that broke the
default_audio_input module option handling: the audio encoding was
never switched to AC3 if default_audio_input was set to 2 (SPDIF input).

In addition, since starting with 3.10 the audio encoding is always set
at the start the first bug now always happens when the driver is loaded.
In the past this bug would only surface if the user would change the
audio encoding after the driver was loaded.

Also fixes a small trivial typo (bufffer -> buffer).

Currently gspca selects the first ISOC input endpoint as the input

Mauro Carvalho Chehab 3926d91a6b [media] dib7000p: Callibrate signal strength
Calibrate the signal strength to dB.

For this callibration, I used adapter 0 (antenna 1), connected
via a normal cable to a DTF-2111 generator.

The same cabling and RF generator connected to adapter 1
(antenna 2) has a difference of +3dBm (signal was stronger
there).

Yet, changing the RF for a difference of, let's say, 6dB
reflected on a 6dB difference at the measured signal, with
is good.

So, the signal strengh can indeed be used to measure the
antenna gain, if the antenna is repositioned. It is
not precise to measure the absolute dBm value, however.

Adds DVBv5 stats support. For now, just mimic whatever dib8000
does, as they're very similar, with regards to statistics.

However, dib7000p_get_time_us() likely require some
adjustments, as I didn't actually reviewed the formula
for it to work with DVB-T. Still, better than nothing,
as latter patches can improve it.

This patch also doesn't show the signal strength in dB
yet. The code is already there, but it requires to be
callibrated.

A latter patch will do the calibration.

It seems that this patch is also a bug fix: Before this
patch, the frontend were not tuning with some userspace
tools. I suspect that dib7000p firmware or hardware
internally expects that the statistics to be collected,
in order for it to work. With this patch, the DVB core
will always retrive statistics, even if userspace doesn't
request. So, it makes the device work on all tested apps.

Mauro Carvalho Chehab b9bc7d59b7 [media] dib8000: rename dib8000_attach to dib8000_init
Well, what we call as "foo_attach" is the method that should
be called by the dvb_attach() macro.

It should be noticed that the name "dvb_attach" is really a
bad name and don't express what it does.

dvb_attach() basically does three things, if the frontend is
compiled as a module:
- It lookups for the module that it is known to have the
  given symbol name and requests such module;
- It increments the module usage (anonymously - so lsmod
  doesn't print who loaded the module);
- after loading the module, it runs the function associated
  with the dynamic symbol.

When compiled as builtin, it just calls the function given to it.

As dvb_attach() increments refcount, it can't be (easily)
called more than once for the same module, or the kernel
will deny to remove the module, because refcount will never
be zeroed.

In other words, the function name given to dvb_attach()
should be one single symbol that will always be called
before any other function on that module to be used.

For almost all DVB frontends, there's just one function,
but, on dib8000, there are several exported symbols.

We need to get rid of all those direct calls, because they
cause compilation breakages when bridge is builtin and
frontend is module, we'll need to add a new function that
will be the first one to be called, whatever initialization
is needed.

So, let's rename this function, in order to prepare for
a next patch that will add a new attach() function that
will be the only one exported by this module.

A latter patch will add a new dib7000p_attach that will be
used as originally conceived by dvb_attach() way.

The dvb_attach() was unbalanced, as there was no dvb_dettach. Ok,

So, add a dvb_detach() and use it at dvb_frontend.c.

Malcolm Priestley 3a370222b0 [media] lmedm04: rs2000 check if interrupt urb is over due
Change handling of signal_lock on rs2000. Use ibuf[2] to detect
lock as there is a longer wait for lock to appear in ibuf[6].

Remove last_key and key_timeout and use jiffies plus 60ms
to detect that streaming is still active.

If the current jiffies is time_after the interrupt urb overdue and
clear signal lock.

This results in far faster recovery of lock and streaming.

Lad, Prabhakar 4015bef649 [media] media: davinci: vpif_capture: drop unneeded module params
Remove bogus 'numbuffers' and 'bufsize' module options. The number of buffers and
buffer sizes are determined by VIDIOC_REQBUFS and VIDIOC_S_FMT and the amount of
available memory (in the case of the MMAP stream I/O mode) and not by module
options.

These module params are a left-over from the original montavista code that used
these parameters to pre-allocate the memory needed for the buffers. The code that
allocated those buffers was never upstreamed since by the time the drivers were
added to the kernel the TI cmem module could be used in combination with the
USERPTR mode to reserve and pass physically contiguous memory pointers around.

These days of course CMA is used instead of cmem.

This patch removes these module options altogether since they no longer do what
they originally were designed for. They should never have been part of the
upstreamed code in the first place, so they've been pointless ever since
2.6.32 when this driver first appeared in the mainline kernel.

Linus Torvalds e5c4ecdc55 USB driver patches for 3.16-rc1
Here is the big USB driver pull request for 3.16-rc1.

Nothing huge here, but lots of little things in the USB core, and in
lots of drivers. Hopefully the USB power management will be work better
now that it has been reworked to do per-port power control dynamically.
There's also a raft of gadget driver updates and fixes, CONFIG_USB_DEBUG
is finally gone now that everything has been converted over to the
dynamic debug inteface, the last hold-out drivers were cleaned up and
the config option removed. There were also other minor things all
through the drivers/usb/ tree, the shortlog shows this pretty well.

All have been in linux-next, including the very last patch, which came
from linux-next to fix a build issue on some platforms.

Mauro Carvalho Chehab f6fef86341 [media] au0828: reset streaming when a new frequency is set
As reported by Trevor, doing several opening/streaming/closing
operations to the demux causes it to fail.

I was able to simulate this bug too. I also noticed that,
sometimes, changing channels with au0828, the same thing
happens.

Most of the issues seem to be due to some hardware bug, that
causes the device to not fill all the URBs allocated. When
the bug happens, the only known fix is to either replug the
device, or to send an USB reset to it.

There's also a hack a the au0828 driver that starts a thread
that tries to reset the device when a package doesn't start
with a sync.

One of the culpits for this bad hardware behavior seem to be
caused by the lack of stopping and restarting the stream every
time a new channel is set.

This patch warrants that the stream will be properly reset
every time the set_frontend callback is called, partially
solving the problem.

A complete fix, however, would also need to check the PM
conditions for the tuner and demux.

Matt DeVillier 0cacb46ace [media] fix mceusb endpoint type identification/handling
Change the I/O endpoint handling of the mceusb driver to respect the endpoint
type reported by device (bulk/interrupt), rather than treating all endpoints
as type interrupt, which breaks devices using bulk endpoints when connected
to a xhci controller. Accordingly, change the function calls to initialize
an endpoint's transfer pipe and urb handlers to use the correct function based
on the endpoint type.

Currently stk1160_read_reg() uses a stack-allocated char to get the

This commit fixes such issue by kmalloc'ating a 1-byte buffer to receive
the read value.

While here, let's remove the urb_buf array which was meant for a similar
purpose, but never really used.

This patch is needed in preparation to add MFC V8

This patch adds variants of MFC V6 and V7 while

Pawel Osciak f49f3ed519 [media] s5p-mfc: Don't try to resubmit VP8 bitstream buffer for decode
Currently, for formats that are not H264, MFC driver will check
the consumed stream size returned by the firmware and, based on that,
will try to decide whether the bitstream buffer contained more than
one frame. If the size of the buffer is larger than the consumed
stream, it assumes that there are more frames in the buffer and that the
buffer should be resubmitted for decode. This rarely works though and
actually introduces problems, because:

- v7 firmware will always return consumed stream size equal to whatever
the driver passed to it when running decode (which is the size of the whole
buffer), which means we will never try to resubmit, because the firmware
will always tell us that it consumed all the data we passed to it;

- v6 firmware will return the number of consumed bytes, but will not
include the padding ("stuffing") bytes that are allowed after the frame
in VP8. Since there is no way of figuring out how many of those bytes
follow the frame without getting the frame size from IVF headers (or
somewhere else, but not from the stream itself), the driver tries to guess that
padding size is not larger than 4 bytes, which is not always true;

The only way to make it work is to queue only one frame per buffer from
userspace and the check in the kernel is useless and wrong for VP8.
So adding VP8 also along with H264 to disallow re-submitting of buffer
back to hardware for decode.

Pawel Osciak 9d87e8375d [media] s5p-mfc: Don't allocate codec buffers on STREAMON
Currently, we allocate private codec buffers on STREAMON, which may fail
if we are out of memory. We don't check for failure though, which will
make us crash with the codec accessing random memory.

We shouldn't be failing STREAMON with out of memory errors though. So move
the allocation of private codec buffers to REQBUFS for OUTPUT queue. Also,
move MFC instance opening and closing to REQBUFS as well, as it's tied to
allocation and deallocation of private codec buffers.

Pawel Osciak 38beac65a2 [media] s5p-mfc: Fixes for decode REQBUFS
- Honor return values from vb2_reqbufs on REQBUFS(0).

- Do not set the number of allocated buffers to 0 if userspace tries
to request buffers again without freeing them.

- There is no need to verify correct instance state on reqbufs, as we will
  verify this in queue_setup().

- There is also no need to verify that vb2_reqbufs() was able to allocate enough
buffers (pb_count) and call buf_init on that many buffers (i.e. dst_buf_count
is at least pb_count), because this will be verified by second queue_setup()
call as well and vb2_reqbufs() will fail otherwise.

- Only verify state is MFCINST_INIT when allocating, not when freeing.

- Refactor and simplify code.

Pawel Osciak a0517f5d4d [media] s5p-mfc: Copy timestamps only when a frame is produced
Timestamps for destination buffers are assigned by copying them from
corresponding source buffers when the decode operation results in a frame
being outputted to a destination buffer. But the decision when to do this, i.e.
whether the decode operation on current source buffer produced a destination
frame, is wrongly based on "display status". Display status reflects the status
of the destination buffer, not source.

This used to work for firmwares version <= 6, because in addition to the above,
we'd check the decoded frame type register, which was set to "skipped" if
a destination frame was not produced, exiting early from
s5p_mfc_handle_frame_new().
Firmware >=7 does not set the frame type register for frames that were not
decoded anymore though, which results in us wrongly overwriting timestamps of
previously decoded buffers (firmware reports the same destination buffer address
as previously decoded one if a frame wasn't decoded during current operation).

To do it properly, we should be basing our decision to copy the timestamp on the
status of the source buffer, i.e. "decode status". The decode status register
values are confusing, because in its case "display" means "a frame has been
outputted to a destination buffer". We should copy if "decode and display"
is returned in it. This also works on <= v6 firmware, which behaves in the same
way with regards to decode status register.
