Arnd Bergmann 3c2002aec3 cpufreq: mediatek: allow building as a module
The MT8173 cpufreq driver can currently only be built-in, but
it has a Kconfig dependency on the thermal core. THERMAL
can be a loadable module, which in turn makes this driver
impossible to build.

It is nicer to make the cpufreq driver a module as well, so
this patch turns the option in to a 'tristate' and adapts
the dependency accordingly.

The driver has no module_exit() function, so it will continue
to not support unloading, but it can be built as a module
and loaded at runtime now.

Lee Jones ab0ea257fc cpufreq: st: Provide runtime initialised driver for ST's platforms
The bootloader is charged with the responsibility to provide platform
specific Dynamic Voltage and Frequency Scaling (DVFS) information via
Device Tree. This driver takes the supplied configuration and
registers it with the new generic OPP framework, to then be used with
CPUFreq.

Arnd Bergmann b5832e4b62 cpufreq: tegra: add regulator dependency for T124
This driver is the only one that calls regulator_sync_voltage(), but it
can currently be built with CONFIG_REGULATOR disabled, producing
this build error:

drivers/cpufreq/tegra124-cpufreq.c: In function 'tegra124_cpu_switch_to_pllx':
drivers/cpufreq/tegra124-cpufreq.c:68:2: error: implicit declaration of function 'regulator_sync_voltage' [-Werror=implicit-function-declaration]
  regulator_sync_voltage(priv->vdd_cpu_reg);

My first attempt was to implement a helper for this function
for regulator_sync_voltage, but Mark Brown explained:

We don't do this for *all* regulator API functions - there's some where
using them strongly suggests that there is actually a dependency on
the regulator API. This does seem like it might be falling into the
   specialist category [...]
Looking at the code I'm pretty unclear on what the authors think the
use of _sync_voltage() is doing in the first place so it may be even
better to just remove the call. It seems to have been included in the
first commit so there's not changelog explaining things and there's
no comment either. I'd *expect* it to be a noop as far as I can see.

This adds the dependency to make the driver always build successfully
or not be enabled at all. Alternatively, we could investigate if the
driver should stop calling regulator_sync_voltage instead.

Punit Agrawal 2f7e8a175d cpufreq: arm_big_little: Add support to register a cpufreq cooling device
Register passive cooling devices when initialising cpufreq on
big.LITTLE systems. If the device tree provides a dynamic power
coefficient for the CPUs then the bound cooling device will support
the extensions that allow it to be used with all the existing thermal
governors including the power allocator governor.

A cooling device will be created per individual frequency domain and
can be bound to thermal zones via the thermal DT bindings.

Punit Agrawal 73124ced9c cpufreq: SCPI: Depend on SCPI clk driver
The SCPI clk driver registers the virtual cpufreq device that kicks off
initialisation of the SCPI cpufreq driver. Also, clk_get() will fail for

Fix this by making the SCPI cpufreq driver explicitly depend on the SCPI

Arnd Bergmann 2d4ee30367 cpufreq: mediatek: fix build error
The recently added mt8173 cpufreq driver relies on the cpu topology
that is always present on ARM64 but optional on ARM32:

drivers/cpufreq/mt8173-cpufreq.c: In function 'mtk_cpufreq_init':
drivers/cpufreq/mt8173-cpufreq.c:441:30: error: 'cpu_topology' undeclared (first use in this function)
  cpumask_copy(policy->cpus, &cpu_topology[policy->cpu].core_sibling);

This refines the Kconfig dependencies so that we can still build on
ARM32, but only if COMPILE_TEST is selected and the CPU topology
code is present.

Linus Torvalds b44a3d2a85 ARM: SoC driver updates for v4.4
As we've enabled multiplatform kernels on ARM, and greatly done away with
the contents under arch/arm/mach-*, there's still need for SoC-related
 drivers to go somewhere.

Many of them go in through other driver trees, but we still have
drivers/soc to hold some of the "doesn't fit anywhere" lowlevel code
that might be shared between ARM and ARM64 (or just in general makes
sense to not have under the architecture directory).

This branch contains mostly such code:

 - Drivers for qualcomm SoCs for SMEM, SMD and SMD-RPM, used to communicate
with power management blocks on these SoCs for use by clock, regulator and
   bus frequency drivers.
 - Allwinner Reduced Serial Bus driver, again used to communicate with PMICs.
 - Drivers for ARM's SCPI (System Control Processor). Not to be confused with
PSCI (Power State Coordination Interface). SCPI is used to communicate with
the assistant embedded cores doing power management, and we have yet to see
how many of them will implement this for their hardware vs abstracting in
other ways (or not at all like in the past).
 - To make confusion between SCPI and PSCI more likely, this release also
includes an update of PSCI to interface version 1.0.
 - Rockchip support for power domains.
 - A driver to talk to the firmware on Raspberry Pi.

Pull power management and ACPI updates from Rafael Wysocki:
"From the number of commits perspective, the biggest items are ACPICA
and cpufreq changes with the latter taking the lead (over 50 commits).

On the cpufreq front, there are many cleanups and minor fixes in the
core and governors, driver updates etc. We also have a new cpufreq
  driver for Mediatek MT8173 chips.

ACPICA mostly updates its debug infrastructure and adds a number of
fixes and cleanups for a good measure.

The Operating Performance Points (OPP) framework is updated with new
DT bindings and support for them among other things.

We have a few updates of the generic power domains framework and a
reorganization of the ACPI device enumeration code and bus type
  operations.

And a lot of fixes and cleanups all over.

Included is one branch from the MFD tree as it contains some
PM-related driver core and ACPI PM changes a few other commits are
  based on.

  Specifics:

   - ACPICA update to upstream revision 20150818 including method
tracing extensions to allow more in-depth AML debugging in the
kernel and a number of assorted fixes and cleanups (Bob Moore, Lv
     Zheng, Markus Elfring).

   - ACPI sysfs code updates and a documentation update related to AML
     method tracing (Lv Zheng).

   - ACPI EC driver fix related to serialized evaluations of _Qxx
methods and ACPI tools updates allowing the EC userspace tool to be
built from the kernel source (Lv Zheng).

   - ACPI processor driver updates preparing it for future introduction
of CPPC support and ACPI PCC mailbox driver updates (Ashwin
     Chaugule).

   - ACPI interrupts enumeration fix for a regression related to the
handling of IRQ attribute conflicts between MADT and the ACPI
     namespace (Jiang Liu).

   - Fixes related to ACPI device PM (Mika Westerberg, Srinidhi
     Kasagar).

   - ACPI device registration code reorganization to separate the
sysfs-related code and bus type operations from the rest (Rafael J
     Wysocki).

   - Assorted cleanups in the ACPI core (Jarkko Nikula, Mathias Krause,
Andy Shevchenko, Rafael J Wysocki, Nicolas Iooss).

   - ACPI cpufreq driver and ia64 cpufreq driver fixes and cleanups (Pan

Pi-Cheng Chen 1453863fb0 cpufreq: mediatek: Add MT8173 cpufreq driver
Mediatek MT8173 is an ARMv8 based quad-core (2*Cortex-A53 and
2*Cortex-A72) SoC with duall clusters. For each cluster, two voltage
inputs, Vproc and Vsram are supplied by two regulators. For the big
cluster, two regulators come from different PMICs. In this case, when
scaling voltage inputs of the cluster, the voltages of two regulator
inputs need to be controlled by software explicitly under the SoC
specific limitation:

	100mV < Vsram - Vproc < 200mV

which is called 'voltage tracking' mechanism. And when scaling the
frequency of cluster clock input, the input MUX need to be parented to
another "intermediate" stable PLL first and reparented to the original
PLL once the original PLL is stable at the target frequency. This patch
implements those mechanisms to enable CPU DVFS support for Mediatek
MT8173 SoC.

Tuomas Tynkkynen 9eb15dbbfa cpufreq: Add cpufreq driver for Tegra124
Add a new cpufreq driver for Tegra124. Instead of using the PLLX as
the CPU clocksource, switch immediately to the DFLL. It allows the use
of higher clock rates, and will automatically scale the CPU voltage as
well. Besides the CPU clocksource switch, we let the cpufreq-dt driver
for all the cpufreq operations.

This driver also relies on the DFLL driver to fill the OPP table for the
CPU0 device, so that the cpufreq-dt driver knows what frequencies to
use.

Arnd Bergmann 8b2b4a4e53 cpufreq: exynos: allow modular build
The exynos cpufreq driver code recently gained a dependency on the
cooling code, which may be a loadable module. This breaks an ARM
allmodconfig build:

drivers/built-in.o: In function `exynos_cpufreq_probe':
:(.text+0x1748e8): undefined reference to `of_cpufreq_cooling_register'

To avoid this problem, change cpufreq Kconfig to allow the drivers
to be loadable modules as well and enforce a dependency on the
thermal module.

This change, in order to allow module builds on this cpufreq
driver, properly constructs the driver into a single module,
instead of several modules. The change also keeps the proper
platform dependency, and therefore, it wont load in platforms
that are not supposed to be loaded. The user will be able to
build the support for all platforms, or select which platforms
(s)he wants (as originally), except that now it can be a module,
instead.

Besides, it will still keep the driver only on those configs
that expect it to be on. And it won't compile/load on platforms
that it is not supposed to. It brings the config ARM_EXYNOS_CPU_FREQ_BOOST_SW
closer to this driver, so it looks better in the menuconfig.

We intentionally change ARM_EXYNOS5440_CPUFREQ to be tristate too, to
avoid future troubles.

Linus Torvalds b528392669 ACPI and power management updates for 3.18-rc1
- Rework the handling of wakeup IRQs by the IRQ core such that
all of them will be switched over to "wakeup" mode in
suspend_device_irqs() and in that mode the first interrupt
will abort system suspend in progress or wake up the system
if already in suspend-to-idle (or equivalent) without executing
any interrupt handlers. Among other things that eliminates the
wakeup-related motivation to use the IRQF_NO_SUSPEND interrupt
flag with interrupts which don't really need it and should not
use it (Thomas Gleixner and Rafael J Wysocki).

  - Switch over ACPI to handling wakeup interrupts with the help
of the new mechanism introduced by the above IRQ core rework
    (Rafael J Wysocki).

  - Rework the core generic PM domains code to eliminate code that's
not used, add DT support and add a generic mechanism by which
devices can be added to PM domains automatically during
enumeration (Ulf Hansson, Geert Uytterhoeven and Tomasz Figa).

  - Add debugfs-based mechanics for debugging generic PM domains
    (Maciej Matraszek).

  - ACPICA update to upstream version 20140828. Included are updates
related to the SRAT and GTDT tables and the _PSx methods are in
the METHOD_NAME list now (Bob Moore and Hanjun Guo).

  - Add _OSI("Darwin") support to the ACPI core (unfortunately, that
can't really be done in a straightforward way) to prevent
Thunderbolt from being turned off on Apple systems after boot
(or after resume from system suspend) and rework the ACPI Smart
Battery Subsystem (SBS) driver to work correctly with Apple
platforms (Matthew Garrett and Andreas Noever).

  - ACPI LPSS (Low-Power Subsystem) driver update cleaning up the
code, adding support for 133MHz I2C source clock on Intel Baytrail
to it and making it avoid using UART RTS override with Auto Flow
    Control (Heikki Krogerus).

  - ACPI backlight updates removing the video_set_use_native_backlight
quirk which is not necessary any more, making the code check the
list of output devices returned by the _DOD method to avoid
creating acpi_video interfaces that won't work and adding a quirk
for Lenovo Ideapad Z570 (Hans de Goede, Aaron Lu and Stepan Bujnak).

  - New Win8 ACPI OSI quirks for some Dell laptops (Edward Lin).

  - Assorted ACPI code cleanups (Fabian Frederick, Rasmus Villemoes,
Sudip Mukherjee, Yijing Wang, and Zhang Rui).

  - cpufreq core updates and cleanups (Viresh Kumar, Preeti U Murthy,
    Rasmus Villemoes).

  - cpufreq driver updates: cpufreq-cpu0/cpufreq-dt (driver name
change among other things), ppc-corenet, powernv (Viresh Kumar,
Preeti U Murthy, Shilpasri G Bhat, Lucas Stach).

  - cpuidle support for DT-based idle states infrastructure, new
ARM64 cpuidle driver, cpuidle core cleanups (Lorenzo Pieralisi,
    Rasmus Villemoes).

  - ARM big.LITTLE cpuidle driver updates: support for DT-based
initialization and Exynos5800 compatible string (Lorenzo Pieralisi,

Merge tag 'pm+acpi-3.18-rc1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/rafael/linux-pm

Pull ACPI and power management updates from Rafael Wysocki:
"Features-wise, to me the most important this time is a rework of
wakeup interrupts handling in the core that makes them work
consistently across all of the available sleep states, including
suspend-to-idle. Many thanks to Thomas Gleixner for his help with
  this work.

Second is an update of the generic PM domains code that has been in
need of some care for quite a while. Unused code is being removed, DT
support is being added and domains are now going to be attached to
devices in bus type code in analogy with the ACPI PM domain. The
majority of work here was done by Ulf Hansson who also has been the
  most active developer this time.

Apart from this we have a traditional ACPICA update, this time to
upstream version 20140828 and a few ACPI wakeup interrupts handling
patches on top of the general rework mentioned above. There also are
several cpufreq commits including renaming the cpufreq-cpu0 driver to
cpufreq-dt, as this is what implements generic DT-based cpufreq
support, and a new DT-based idle states infrastructure for cpuidle.

In addition to that, the ACPI LPSS driver is updated, ACPI support for
Apple machines is improved, a few bugs are fixed and a few cleanups
  are made all over.

Finally, the Adaptive Voltage Scaling (AVS) subsystem now has a tree
maintained by Kevin Hilman that will be merged through the PM tree.

Numbers-wise, the generic PM domains update takes the lead this time
with 32 non-merge commits, second is cpufreq (15 commits) and the 3rd
place goes to the wakeup interrupts handling rework (13 commits).

  Specifics:

   - Rework the handling of wakeup IRQs by the IRQ core such that all of
them will be switched over to "wakeup" mode in suspend_device_irqs()
and in that mode the first interrupt will abort system suspend in
progress or wake up the system if already in suspend-to-idle (or
equivalent) without executing any interrupt handlers. Among other
things that eliminates the wakeup-related motivation to use the
IRQF_NO_SUSPEND interrupt flag with interrupts which don't really
need it and should not use it (Thomas Gleixner and Rafael Wysocki)

   - Switch over ACPI to handling wakeup interrupts with the help of the
new mechanism introduced by the above IRQ core rework (Rafael Wysocki)

   - Rework the core generic PM domains code to eliminate code that's
not used, add DT support and add a generic mechanism by which
devices can be added to PM domains automatically during enumeration
(Ulf Hansson, Geert Uytterhoeven and Tomasz Figa).

   - Add debugfs-based mechanics for debugging generic PM domains
     (Maciej Matraszek).

   - ACPICA update to upstream version 20140828. Included are updates
related to the SRAT and GTDT tables and the _PSx methods are in the
METHOD_NAME list now (Bob Moore and Hanjun Guo).

   - Add _OSI("Darwin") support to the ACPI core (unfortunately, that
can't really be done in a straightforward way) to prevent
Thunderbolt from being turned off on Apple systems after boot (or
after resume from system suspend) and rework the ACPI Smart Battery
Subsystem (SBS) driver to work correctly with Apple platforms
     (Matthew Garrett and Andreas Noever).

   - ACPI LPSS (Low-Power Subsystem) driver update cleaning up the code,
adding support for 133MHz I2C source clock on Intel Baytrail to it
and making it avoid using UART RTS override with Auto Flow Control
     (Heikki Krogerus).

   - ACPI backlight updates removing the video_set_use_native_backlight
quirk which is not necessary any more, making the code check the
list of output devices returned by the _DOD method to avoid
creating acpi_video interfaces that won't work and adding a quirk
for Lenovo Ideapad Z570 (Hans de Goede, Aaron Lu and Stepan Bujnak)

   - New Win8 ACPI OSI quirks for some Dell laptops (Edward Lin)

   - Assorted ACPI code cleanups (Fabian Frederick, Rasmus Villemoes,
Sudip Mukherjee, Yijing Wang, and Zhang Rui)

   - cpufreq core updates and cleanups (Viresh Kumar, Preeti U Murthy,
     Rasmus Villemoes)

   - cpufreq driver updates: cpufreq-cpu0/cpufreq-dt (driver name change
among other things), ppc-corenet, powernv (Viresh Kumar, Preeti U
Murthy, Shilpasri G Bhat, Lucas Stach)

   - cpuidle support for DT-based idle states infrastructure, new ARM64
cpuidle driver, cpuidle core cleanups (Lorenzo Pieralisi, Rasmus
     Villemoes)

   - ARM big.LITTLE cpuidle driver updates: support for DT-based
initialization and Exynos5800 compatible string (Lorenzo Pieralisi,
     Kevin Hilman)

   - Rework of the test_suspend kernel command line argument and a new
trace event for console resume (Srinivas Pandruvada, Todd E Brandt)

   - Second attempt to optimize swsusp_free() (hibernation core) to make
it avoid going through all PFNs which may be way too slow on some
     systems (Joerg Roedel)

   - devfreq updates (Paul Bolle, Punit Agrawal, Ãrjan Eide).

   - rockchip-io Adaptive Voltage Scaling (AVS) driver and AVS entry
update in MAINTAINERS (Heiko Stübner, Kevin Hilman)

   - PM core fix related to clock management (Geert Uytterhoeven)

   - PM core's sysfs code cleanup (Johannes Berg)"

Viresh Kumar bbcf071969 cpufreq: cpu0: rename driver and internals to 'cpufreq_dt'
The naming convention of this driver was always under the scanner, people
complained that it should have a more generic name than cpu0, as it manages all
CPUs that are sharing clock lines.

Also, in future it will be modified to support any number of clusters with
separate clock/voltage lines.

Lets rename it to 'cpufreq_dt' from 'cpufreq_cpu0'.

Quentin Armitage 2fa1adc070 cpufreq: kirkwood: Reinstate cpufreq driver for ARCH_KIRKWOOD
Commit ff1f0018cf ("drivers: Enable
building of Kirkwood drivers for mach-mvebu") added Kirkwood into
mach-mvebu, adding MACH_KIRKWOOD to ARCH_KIRKWOOD in the KConfig files.

The change for ARM_KIRKWOOD_CPUFREQ replaced ARCH_KIRKWOOD with
MACH_KIRKWOOD, whereas all the other changes were ARCH_KIRKWOOD ||
MACH_KIRKWOOD.

As a consequence of this change, the cpufreq driver is no longer enabled

Merge tag 'pm+acpi-3.16-rc1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/rafael/linux-pm into next

Pull ACPI and power management updates from Rafael Wysocki:
"ACPICA is the leader this time (63 commits), followed by cpufreq (28
  commits), devfreq (15 commits), system suspend/hibernation (12
commits), ACPI video and ACPI device enumeration (10 commits each).

We have no major new features this time, but there are a few
significant changes of how things work. The most visible one will
probably be that we are now going to create platform devices rather
than PNP devices by default for ACPI device objects with _HID. That
was long overdue and will be really necessary to be able to use the
same drivers for the same hardware blocks on ACPI and DT-based systems
going forward. We're not expecting fallout from this one (as usual),
but it's something to watch nevertheless.

The second change having a chance to be visible is that ACPI video
will now default to using native backlight rather than the ACPI
backlight interface which should generally help systems with broken
Win8 BIOSes. We're hoping that all problems with the native backlight
handling that we had previously have been addressed and we are in a
good enough shape to flip the default, but this change should be easy
enough to revert if need be.

In addition to that, the system suspend core has a new mechanism to
allow runtime-suspended devices to stay suspended throughout system
suspend/resume transitions if some extra conditions are met
(generally, they are related to coordination within device hierarchy).
However, enabling this feature requires cooperation from the bus type
layer and for now it has only been implemented for the ACPI PM domain
(used by ACPI-enumerated platform devices mostly today).

Also, the acpidump utility that was previously shipped as a separate
tool will now be provided by the upstream ACPICA along with the rest
of ACPICA code, which will allow it to be more up to date and better
supported, and we have one new cpuidle driver (ARM clps711x).

The rest is improvements related to certain specific use cases,
cleanups and fixes all over the place.

  Specifics:

   - ACPICA update to upstream version 20140424. That includes a number
of fixes and improvements related to things like GPE handling,
table loading, headers, memory mapping and unmapping, DSDT/SSDT
overriding, and the Unload() operator. The acpidump utility from
upstream ACPICA is included too. From Bob Moore, Lv Zheng, David
Box, David Binderman, and Colin Ian King.

   - Fixes and cleanups related to ACPI video and backlight interfaces
from Hans de Goede. That includes blacklist entries for some new
machines and using native backlight by default.

   - ACPI device enumeration changes to create platform devices rather
than PNP devices for ACPI device objects with _HID by default. PNP
devices will still be created for the ACPI device object with
device IDs corresponding to real PNP devices, so that change should
not break things left and right, and we're expecting to see more
and more ACPI-enumerated platform devices in the future. From

Tomasz Figa 4c8d819343 cpufreq: exynos: Fix driver compilation with ARCH_MULTIPLATFORM
Currently Exynos cpufreq drivers rely on globally mapped
clock controller registers to configure frequency of CPU
cores. This is obviously wrong and will be removed in near
future, but to enable support for multi-platform builds
without introducing a regression it needs to be worked
around.

This patch hacks the code to look for clock controller node
in device tree and map its registers using of_iomap(),
instead of relying on global mapping, so dependencies on
platform headers are removed and the driver can compile
again with multiplatform support.

Mark Brown 4920ab8497 cpufreq: Enable big.LITTLE cpufreq driver on arm64
There are arm64 big.LITTLE systems so enable the big.LITTLE cpufreq driver.
While IKS is not available for these systems the driver is still useful
since it manages clusters with shared frequencies which is the common case
for these systems.

Long term combining the cpufreq-cpu0 and big.LITTLE drivers may be a
more sensible option but that is substantially more complex especially
in the case of IKS.

Linus Torvalds cbda94e039 ARM: SoC: driver changes
These changes are mostly for ARM specific device drivers that either

are clock drivers (bcm281xx, exynos, versatile, shmobile), aside from
that, reset controllers for STi as well as a large rework of the
Marvell Orion/EBU watchdog driver are notable.

viresh kumar 3b84d58d42 cpufreq: arm_big_little: make vexpress driver depend on bL core driver
Currently vexpress big LITTLE driver selects ARM_BIG_LITTLE_CPUFREQ, so

Lukasz Majewski 2fb4719b25 cpufreq / boost: Kconfig: Support for software-managed BOOST
Add CONFIG_CPU_FREQ_BOOST_SW Kconfig option such that software-managed
boost is enabled only after selecting "EXYNOS Frequency Overclocking -
Software". It also depends on the thermal subsystem to be compiled in,
which is necessary for disabling boost and cooling down the device when
overheating is detected.

Software-managed boost _MUST_ _NOT_ be enabled without thermal subsystem
with properly defined overheating temperature thresholds.

This option doesn't affect the x86's hardware-driven boost support
in the acpi-cpufreq driver.

Mark Brown 109df086e0 cpufreq: Select PM_OPP rather than depending on it
PM_OPP is a helper library used by several of the existing cpufreq drivers.
Some of the drivers select this symbol while others depend on it and rely
on the architecture to enable it. Make this behaviour more consistent and
obvious by having all the drivers select the symbol. This will also allow
better build coverage of the affected drivers.
