Janusz Dziedzic c17aa52c5b mac80211_hwsim: VHT add 160MHz width support
Add 160MHz width support. This could be
usefull for testing VHT160 DFS functionality.
This could be also usefull in the future when
DFS and non-DFS channels could be mixed.

Janusz Dziedzic bba05e3d5a mac80211_hwsim: Add iface comb for DFS
Add iface combination that will allow DFS
support. Add also debugfs dfs_simulate_radar
file that can be used to simulate radar event.
This could be useful for mac80211/cfg80211/
regulatory/hostap code testing without real HW.

Luis R. Rodriguez 8fe02e167e cfg80211: consolidate passive-scan and no-ibss flags
These two flags are used for the same purpose, just
combine them into a no-ir flag to annotate no initiating
radiation is allowed.

Old userspace sending either flag will have it treated as
the no-ir flag. To be considerate to older userspace we
also send both the no-ir flag and the old no-ibss flags.
Newer userspace will have to be aware of older kernels.

Jouni Malinen cdb1b8057a mac80211_hwsim: Fix bcn_en_iter to use atomic iteration
'mac80211_hwsim: Fix tracking of beaconing for multi-vif' introduced an
iteration of active interfaces into the bss_info_changed handler.
However, it used a wrong type of iteration and could result in a dead
lock since iflist_mtx can already be held. Fix this by using the atomic
version of the iteration function.

Jouni Malinen 76a56eb3b0 mac80211_hwsim: Fix radiotap header for ACK frames
The earlier addition of rt_tsft to struct hwsim_radiotap_hdr updated
only mac80211_hwsim_monitor_tx() to fill in the new field.
mac80211_hwsim_monitor_ack() did not set the rt_tsft field and as such,
leaked eight bytes of kernel memory to user space. In addition, the
resulting radiotap header is invalid since the field offsets do not
match. Fix these issues by defining a separate radiotap header structure
for the ACK frame case which does not use all the fields.

Johannes Berg c53ed74236 genetlink: only pass array to genl_register_family_with_ops()
As suggested by David Miller, make genl_register_family_with_ops()
a macro and pass only the array, evaluating ARRAY_SIZE() in the
macro, this is a little safer.

The openvswitch has some indirection, assing ops/n_ops directly in
that code. This might ultimately just assign the pointers in the
family initializations, saving the struct genl_family_and_ops and
code (once mcast groups are handled differently.)

Johannes Berg 18b559d5db mac80211: split TX aggregation stop action
When TX aggregation is stopped, there are a few
different cases:
 - connection with the peer was dropped
 - session stop was requested locally
 - session stop was requested by the peer
 - connection was dropped while a session is stopping

The behaviour in these cases should be different, if
the connection is dropped then the driver should drop
all frames, otherwise the frames may continue to be
transmitted, aggregated in the case of a locally
requested session stop or unaggregated in the case of
the peer requesting session stop.

Split these different cases so that the driver can
act accordingly; however, treat local and remote stop
the same way and ask the driver to not send frames as
aggregated packets any more.

In the case of connection drop, the stop callback the
driver is otherwise supposed to call is no longer
required.

Johannes Berg 42d97a599e cfg80211: remove remain-on-channel channel type
As mwifiex (and mac80211 in the software case) are the
only drivers actually implementing remain-on-channel
with channel type, userspace can't be relying on it.
This is the case, as it's used only for P2P operations

Rather than adding a flag to tell userspace whether or
not it can actually rely on it, simplify all the code
by removing the ability to use different channel types.

we extend it again later (with the needed capability
flag), it can't break userspace sending invalid data.

Johannes Berg 4b6f1dd6a6 mac80211: add explicit monitor interface if needed
The queue mapping redesign that I'm planning to do
will break pure injection unless we handle monitor
interfaces explicitly. One possible option would
be to have the driver tell mac80211 about monitor
mode queues etc., but that would duplicate the API
since we already need to have queue assignments
handled per virtual interface.

So in order to solve this, have a virtual monitor
interface that is added whenever all active vifs
are monitors. We could also use the state of one
of the monitor interfaces, but managing that would
be complicated, so allocate separate state.

Javier Lopez 7882513bac mac80211_hwsim driver support userspace frame tx/rx
This patch adds to mac80211_hwsim the capability to send traffic via
userspace.

Frame exchange between kernel and user spaces is done through generic
netlink communication protocol. A new generic netlink family
MAC80211_HWSIM is proposed, this family contains three basic commands
HWSIM_CMD_REGISTER, which is the command used to register a new
traffic listener, HWSIM_CMD_FRAME, to exchange the frames from kernel
to user and vice-versa, and HWSIM_CMD_TX_INFO_FRAME which returns
from user all the information about retransmissions, rates, rx signal,
and so on.

How it works:

Once the driver is loaded the MAC80211_HWSIM family will be registered.
In the absence of userspace daemon, the driver itselfs implements a
perfect wireless medium as it did in the past. When a daemon sends a
HWSIM_CMD_REGISTER command, the module stores the application PID, and
from this moment all frames will be sent to the registered daemon.

The user space application will be in charge of process/forward all
frames broadcast by any mac80211_hwsim radio. If the user application
is stopped, the kernel module will detect the release of the socket
and it will switch back to in-kernel perfect channel simulation.

The userspace daemon must be waiting for incoming HWSIM_CMD_FRAME
commands sent from kernel, for each HWSIM_CMD_FRAME command the
application will try to broadcast this frame to all mac80211_hwsim
radios, however the application may decide to forward/drop this frame.
In the case of forwarding the frame, a new HWSIM_CMD_FRAME command will
be created, all necessary attributes will be populated and the frame
will be sent back to the kernel.

Also after the frame broadcast phase, a HWSIM_CMD_TX_INFO_FRAME
command will be sent from userspace to kernel, this command contains
all the information regarding the transmission, such as number of
tries, rates, ack signal, etc.

You can find the actual implementation of wireless mediumd daemon

Johannes Berg 7bb4568372 mac80211: make tx() operation return void
The return value of the tx operation is commonly
misused by drivers, leading to errors. All drivers
will drop frames if they fail to TX the frame, and
they must also properly manage the queues (if they
didn't, mac80211 would already warn).

Removing the ability for drivers to return a BUSY
value also allows significant cleanups of the TX
TX handling code in mac80211.

Note that this also fixes a bug in ath9k_htc, the

Johannes Berg 0b01f030d3 mac80211: track receiver's aggregation reorder buffer size
The aggregation code currently doesn't implement the
buffer size negotiation. It will always request a max
buffer size (which is fine, if a little pointless, as
the mac80211 code doesn't know and might just use 0
instead), but if the peer requests a smaller size it
isn't possible to honour this request.

In order to fix this, look at the buffer size in the
addBA response frame, keep track of it and pass it to
the driver in the ampdu_action callback when called
with the IEEE80211_AMPDU_TX_OPERATIONAL action. That
way the driver can limit the number of subframes in
aggregates appropriately.

Note that this doesn't fix any drivers apart from the
addition of the new argument -- they all need to be
updated separately to use this variable!

Johannes Berg 0aaffa9b96 mac80211: improve HT channel handling
Currently, when one interface switches HT mode,
all others will follow along. This is clearly
undesirable, since the new one might switch to
no-HT while another one is operating in HT.

Address this issue by keeping track of the HT
mode per interface, and allowing only changes
that are compatible, i.e. switching into HT40+
is not possible when another interface is in
HT40-, in that case the second one needs to
fall back to HT20.

Also, to allow drivers to know what's going on,
store the per-interface HT mode (channel type)
in the virtual interface's bss_conf.

Johannes Berg a75b4363ea mac80211: allow controlling aggregation manually
This allows enabling TX and disabling both TX and
RX aggregation sessions manually in debugfs. It is
very useful for debugging session initiation and
teardown problems since with this you don't have
to force a lot of traffic to get aggregation and
thus have less data to analyse.

Also, to debug mac80211 code itself, make hwsim
"support" aggregation sessions. It will still just
transfer the frame, but go through the setup and
teardown handshakes.

Tejun Heo 5a0e3ad6af include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h
percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being
included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which
in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files
universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies.

percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for
this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those
headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion
needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is
used as the basis of conversion.

  http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py

The script does the followings.

* Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that
only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used,
gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h.

* When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include
blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms
to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains
core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered -
alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there
doesn't seem to be any matching order.

* If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly
because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out
an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the
  file.

The conversion was done in the following steps.

1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly
over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h
and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400
   files.

2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion,
some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or
embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added
   inclusions to around 150 files.

3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits
from #2 to make sure no file was left behind.

4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed.
   e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab
APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually.

5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically
editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h
files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h
inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually
wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each
slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as
   necessary.

6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h.

7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures
were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my
distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few
more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things
build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq).

   * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config.
   * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig
   * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig
   * ia64 SMP allmodconfig
   * s390 SMP allmodconfig
   * alpha SMP allmodconfig
   * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig

8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as
a separate patch and serve as bisection point.

Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step
6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch.
If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch
headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of
the specific arch.

Johannes Berg ef15aac607 cfg80211: export multiple MAC addresses in sysfs
If a device has multiple MAC addresses, userspace will
need to know about that. Similarly, if it allows the
MAC addresses to vary by a bitmask.

If a driver exports multiple addresses, it is assumed
that it will be able to deal with that many different
addresses, which need not necessarily match the ones
programmed into the device; if a mask is set then the
device should deal addresses within that mask based
on an arbitrary "base address".

To test it all and show how it is used, add support
to hwsim even though it can't actually deal with

Johannes Berg 3ac64beecd mac80211: allow configure_filter callback to sleep

with their own scheme to delay the configure_filter

Johannes Berg aff89a9b90 cfg80211: introduce nl80211 testmode command
This introduces a new NL80211_CMD_TESTMODE for testing
and calibration use with nl80211. There's no multiplexing
like like iwpriv had, and the command is not available by
default, it needs to be explicitly enabled in Kconfig and
shouldn't be enabled in most kernels.

The command requires a wiphy index or interface index to
identify the device to operate on, and the new TESTDATA
attribute. There also is API for sending replies to the
command, and testmode multicast messages (on a testmode
multicast group).

I've also updated mac80211 to be able to pass through the
command to the driver, since it itself doesn't implement
the testmode command.

Additionally, to give people an idea of how to use the
command, I've added a little code to hwsim that makes use
of the new command to set the powersave mode, this is
currently done via debugfs and should remain there, and
the testmode command only serves as an example of how to
use this best -- with nested netlink attributes in the
TESTDATA attribute. A hwsim testmode tool can be found at
http://git.sipsolutions.net/hwsim.git/. This tool is BSD
licensed so people can easily use it as a basis for their
own internal fabrication and validation tools.

Johannes Berg 5cff20e6c5 mac80211: tell driver when idle
When we aren't doing anything in mac80211, we can turn off
much of the hardware, depending on the driver/hw. Not doing
anything, aka being idle, means:

 * no monitor interfaces
 * no AP/mesh/wds interfaces
 * any station interfaces are in DISABLED state
 * any IBSS interfaces aren't trying to be in a network
 * we aren't trying to scan

By creating a new function that verifies these conditions and calling
it at strategic points where the states of those conditions change,
we can easily make mac80211 tell the driver when we are idle to save
power.

Additionally, this fixes a small quirk where a recalculated powersave
state is passed to the driver even if the hardware is about to stopped
completely.

This patch intentionally doesn't touch radio_enabled because that is
currently implemented to be a soft rfkill which is inappropriate here
when we need to be able to wake up with low latency.

One thing I'm not entirely sure about is this:

phy0: device no longer idle - in use
wlan0: direct probe to AP 00:11:24:91:07:4d try 1
  wlan0 direct probe responded
  wlan0: authenticate with AP 00:11:24:91:07:4d
  wlan0: authenticated
> phy0: device now idle
> phy0: device no longer idle - in use
  wlan0: associate with AP 00:11:24:91:07:4d
  wlan0: RX AssocResp from 00:11:24:91:07:4d (capab=0x401 status=0 aid=1)
  wlan0: associated

Is it appropriate to go into idle state for a short time when we have
just authenticated, but not associated yet? This happens only with the
userspace SME, because we cannot really know how long it will wait
before asking us to associate. Would going idle after a short timeout
be more appropriate? We may need to revisit this, depending on what
happens.

Johannes Berg 2d0ddec5b2 mac80211: unify config_interface and bss_info_changed
The config_interface method is a little strange, it contains the
BSSID and beacon updates, while bss_info_changed contains most
other BSS information for each interface. This patch removes
config_interface and rolls all the information it previously
passed to drivers into bss_info_changed.

Johannes Berg 57c4d7b4c4 mac80211: clean up beacon interval settings
We currently have two beacon interval configuration knobs:
hw.conf.beacon_int and vif.bss_info.beacon_int. This is
rather confusing, even though the former is used when we
beacon ourselves and the latter when we are associated to
an AP.

This just deprecates the hw.conf.beacon_int setting in favour
of always using vif.bss_info.beacon_int. Since it touches all
the beaconing IBSS code anyway, we can also add support for
the cfg80211 IBSS beacon interval configuration easily.

NOTE: The hw.conf.beacon_int setting is retained for now due
to drivers still using it -- I couldn't untangle all
drivers, some are updated in this patch.

Johannes Berg e4e72fb4de mac80211/iwlwifi: move virtual A-MDPU queue bookkeeping to iwlwifi
This patch removes all the virtual A-MPDU-queue bookkeeping from
mac80211. Curiously, iwlwifi already does its own bookkeeping, so
it doesn't require much changes except where it needs to handle
starting and stopping the queues in mac80211.

To handle the queue stop/wake properly, we rewrite the software
queue number for aggregation frames and internally to iwlwifi keep
track of the queues that map into the same AC queue, and only talk
to mac80211 about the AC queue. The implementation requires calling
two new functions, iwl_stop_queue and iwl_wake_queue instead of the
mac80211 counterparts.

This adds a module parameter for mac80211_hwsim regulatory testing.
This module parameter is designed specifically to help test the

If you want to just simply test different alpha2s just use the userspace
regulatory request as this won't buy you anything new.
