After the previous patch, all the callers of ndo_select_queue()
provide as a 'fallback' argument netdev_pick_tx.
The only exceptions are nested calls to ndo_select_queue(),
which pass down the 'fallback' available in the current scope
- still netdev_pick_tx.
We can drop such argument and replace fallback() invocation with
netdev_pick_tx(). This avoids an indirect call per xmit packet
in some scenarios (TCP syn, UDP unconnected, XDP generic, pktgen)
with device drivers implementing such ndo. It also clean the code
a bit.

Currently packet_pick_tx_queue() is the only caller of
ndo_select_queue() using a fallback argument other than
netdev_pick_tx.
Leveraging rx queue, we can obtain a similar queue selection
behavior using core helpers. After this change, ndo_select_queue()
is always invoked with netdev_pick_tx() as fallback.
We can change ndo_select_queue() signature in a followup patch,
dropping an indirect call per transmitted packet in some scenarios
(e.g. TCP syn and XDP generic xmit)
This changes slightly how af packet queue selection happens when
PACKET_QDISC_BYPASS is set. It's now more similar to plan dev_queue_xmit()
tacking in account both XPS and TC mapping.

In preparation for getting rid of switchdev_ops, create a dedicated NDO
operation for getting the port's parent identifier. There are
essentially two classes of drivers that need to implement getting the
port's parent ID which are VF/PF drivers with a built-in switch, and
pure switchdev drivers such as mlxsw, ocelot, dsa etc.
We introduce a helper function: dev_get_port_parent_id() which supports
recursion into the lower devices to obtain the first port's parent ID.
Convert the bridge, core and ipv4 multicast routing code to check for
such ndo_get_port_parent_id() and call the helper function when valid
before falling back to switchdev_port_attr_get(). This will allow us to
convert all relevant drivers in one go instead of having to implement
both switchdev_port_attr_get() and ndo_get_port_parent_id() operations,
then get rid of switchdev_port_attr_get().

While implementing ipvlan l3 and l3s mode for kubernetes CNI plugin,
I ran into the issue that while l3 mode is working fine, l3s mode
does not have any connectivity to kube-apiserver and hence all pods
end up in Error state as well. The ipvlan master device sits on
top of a bond device and hostns traffic to kube-apiserver (also running
in hostns) is DNATed from 10.152.183.1:443 to 139.178.29.207:37573
where the latter is the address of the bond0. While in l3 mode, a
curl to https://10.152.183.1:443 or to https://139.178.29.207:37573
works fine from hostns, neither of them do in case of l3s. In the
latter only a curl to https://127.0.0.1:37573 appeared to work where
for local addresses of bond0 I saw kernel suddenly starting to emit
ARP requests to query HW address of bond0 which remained unanswered
and neighbor entries in INCOMPLETE state. These ARP requests only
happen while in l3s.
Debugging this further, I found the issue is that l3s mode is piggy-
backing on l3 master device, and in this case local routes are using
l3mdev_master_dev_rcu(dev) instead of net->loopback_dev as per commit
f5a0aab84b ("net: ipv4: dst for local input routes should use l3mdev
if relevant") and 5f02ce24c2 ("net: l3mdev: Allow the l3mdev to be
a loopback"). I found that reverting them back into using the
net->loopback_dev fixed ipvlan l3s connectivity and got everything
working for the CNI.
Now judging from 4fbae7d83c ("ipvlan: Introduce l3s mode") and the
l3mdev paper in [0] the only sole reason why ipvlan l3s is relying
on l3 master device is to get the l3mdev_ip_rcv() receive hook for
setting the dst entry of the input route without adding its own
ipvlan specific hacks into the receive path, however, any l3 domain
semantics beyond just that are breaking l3s operation. Note that
ipvlan also has the ability to dynamically switch its internal
operation from l3 to l3s for all ports via ipvlan_set_port_mode()
at runtime. In any case, l3 vs l3s soley distinguishes itself by
'de-confusing' netfilter through switching skb->dev to ipvlan slave
device late in NF_INET_LOCAL_IN before handing the skb to L4.
Minimal fix taken here is to add a IFF_L3MDEV_RX_HANDLER flag which,
if set from ipvlan setup, gets us only the wanted l3mdev_l3_rcv() hook
without any additional l3mdev semantics on top. This should also have
minimal impact since dev->priv_flags is already hot in cache. With
this set, l3s mode is working fine and I also get things like
masquerading pod traffic on the ipvlan master properly working.

The NETDEV_CHANGEADDR notification is emitted after a device address
changes. Extending this message to allow vetoing is certainly possible,
but several other notification types have instead adopted a simple
two-stage approach: first a "pre" notification is sent to make sure all
interested parties are OK with a change that's about to be done. Then
the change is done, and afterwards a "post" notification is sent.
This dual approach is easier to use: when the change is vetoed, nothing
has changed yet, and it's therefore unnecessary to roll anything back.
Therefore adopt it for NETDEV_CHANGEADDR as well.

In order to avoid all table update, and only remove or add new
address, the auxiliary function exists, named __hw_addr_sync_dev().
It allows end driver do nothing when nothing changed and add/rm when
concrete address is firstly added or lastly removed. But it doesn't
include cases when an address of real device or vlan was reused by
other vlans or vlan/macval devices.
For handaling events when address was reused/unreused the patch adds
new auxiliary routine - __hw_addr_ref_sync_dev(). It allows to do
nothing when nothing was changed and do updates only for an address
being added/reused/deleted/unreused. Thus, clone address changes for
vlans can be mirrored in the table. The function is exclusive with
__hw_addr_sync_dev(). It's responsibility of the end driver to

When qdisc_run() tries to use BQL budget to bulk-dequeue a batch
of packets, GSO can later transform this list in another list
of skbs, and each skb is sent to device ndo_start_xmit(),
one at a time, with skb->xmit_more being set to one but
for last skb.
Problem is that very often, BQL limit is hit in the middle of
the packet train, forcing dev_hard_start_xmit() to stop the
bulk send and requeue the end of the list.
BQL role is to avoid head of line blocking, making sure
a qdisc can deliver high priority packets before low priority ones.
But there is no way requeued packets can be bypassed by fresh
packets in the qdisc.
Aborting the bulk send increases TX softirqs, and hot cache
lines (after skb_segment()) are wasted.
Note that for TSO packets, we never split a packet in the middle
because of BQL limit being hit.
Drivers should be able to update BQL counters without
flipping/caring about BQL status, if the current skb
has xmit_more set.
Upper layers are ultimately responsible to stop sending another
packet train when BQL limit is hit.
Code template in a driver might look like the following :
send_doorbell = __netdev_tx_sent_queue(tx_queue, nr_bytes, skb->xmit_more);
Note that __netdev_tx_sent_queue() use is not mandatory,
since following patch will change dev_hard_start_xmit()
to not care about BQL status.
But it is highly recommended so that xmit_more full benefits
can be reached (less doorbells sent, and less atomic operations as well)

DEC FDDIcontroller 700 (DEFZA) uses a Tx/Rx queue pair to communicate
SMT frames with adapter's firmware. Any SMT frame received from the RMC
via the Rx queue is queued back by the driver to the SMT Rx queue for
the firmware to process. Similarly the firmware uses the SMT Tx queue
to supply the driver with SMT frames which are queued back to the Tx
queue for the RMC to send to the ring.
When a network tap is attached to an FDDI interface handled by `defza'
any incoming SMT frames captured are queued to our usual processing of
network data received, which in turn delivers them to any listening
taps.
However the outgoing SMT frames produced by the firmware bypass our
network protocol stack and are therefore not delivered to taps. This in
turn means that taps are missing a part of network traffic sent by the
adapter, which may make it more difficult to track down network problems
or do general traffic analysis.
Call `dev_queue_xmit_nit' then in the SMT Tx path, having checked that
a network tap is attached, with a newly-created `dev_nit_active' helper
wrapping the usual condition used in the transmit path.

Since commit 5aad1de5ea ("ipv4: use separate genid for next hop
exceptions"), exceptions get deprecated separately from cached
routes. In particular, administrative changes don't clear PMTU anymore.
As Stefano described in commit e9fa1495d7 ("ipv6: Reflect MTU changes
on PMTU of exceptions for MTU-less routes"), the PMTU discovered before
the local MTU change can become stale:
- if the local MTU is now lower than the PMTU, that PMTU is now
incorrect
- if the local MTU was the lowest value in the path, and is increased,
we might discover a higher PMTU
Similarly to what commit e9fa1495d7 did for IPv6, update PMTU in those
cases.
If the exception was locked, the discovered PMTU was smaller than the
minimal accepted PMTU. In that case, if the new local MTU is smaller
than the current PMTU, let PMTU discovery figure out if locking of the
exception is still needed.
To do this, we need to know the old link MTU in the NETDEV_CHANGEMTU
notifier. By the time the notifier is called, dev->mtu has been
changed. This patch adds the old MTU as additional information in the
notifier structure, and a new call_netdevice_notifiers_u32() function.

pull-request: bpf-next 2018-10-08
The following pull-request contains BPF updates for your *net-next* tree.
The main changes are:
1) sk_lookup_[tcp|udp] and sk_release helpers from Joe Stringer which allow
BPF programs to perform lookups for sockets in a network namespace. This would
allow programs to determine early on in processing whether the stack is
expecting to receive the packet, and perform some action (eg drop,
forward somewhere) based on this information.
2) per-cpu cgroup local storage from Roman Gushchin.
Per-cpu cgroup local storage is very similar to simple cgroup storage
except all the data is per-cpu. The main goal of per-cpu variant is to
implement super fast counters (e.g. packet counters), which don't require
neither lookups, neither atomic operations in a fast path.
The example of these hybrid counters is in selftests/bpf/netcnt_prog.c
3) allow HW offload of programs with BPF-to-BPF function calls from Quentin Monnet
4) support more than 64-byte key/value in HW offloaded BPF maps from Jakub Kicinski
5) rename of libbpf interfaces from Andrey Ignatov.
libbpf is maturing as a library and should follow good practices in
library design and implementation to play well with other libraries.
This patch set brings consistent naming convention to global symbols.
6) relicense libbpf as LGPL-2.1 OR BSD-2-Clause from Alexei Starovoitov
to let Apache2 projects use libbpf
7) various AF_XDP fixes from Björn and Magnus

Currently, the only way to ignore outgoing packets on a packet socket is
via the BPF filter. With MSG_ZEROCOPY, packets that are looped into
AF_PACKET are copied in dev_queue_xmit_nit(), and this copy happens even
if the filter run from packet_rcv() would reject them. So the presence
of a packet socket on the interface takes away the benefits of
MSG_ZEROCOPY, even if the packet socket is not interested in outgoing
packets. (Even when MSG_ZEROCOPY is not used, the skb is unnecessarily
cloned, but the cost for that is much lower.)
Add a socket option to allow AF_PACKET sockets to ignore outgoing
packets to solve this. Note that the *BSDs already have something

This change makes it so that we can support the concept of subordinate
device traffic classes to the core networking code. In doing this we can
start pulling out the driver specific bits needed to support selecting a
queue based on an upper device.
The solution at is currently stands is only partially implemented. I have
the start of some XPS bits in here, but I would still need to allow for
configuration of the XPS maps on the queues reserved for the subordinate
devices. For now I am using the reference to the sb_dev XPS map as just a
way to skip the lookup of the lower device XPS map for now as that would
result in the wrong queue being picked.

This patch is meant to provide the basic tools needed to allow us to create
subordinate device traffic classes. The general idea here is to allow
subdividing the queues of a device into queue groups accessible through an
upper device such as a macvlan.
The idea here is to enforce the idea that an upper device has to be a
single queue device, ideally with IFF_NO_QUQUE set. With that being the
case we can pretty much guarantee that the tc_to_txq mappings and XPS maps
for the upper device are unused. As such we could reuse those in order to
support subdividing the lower device and distributing those queues between
the subordinate devices.
In order to distinguish between a regular set of traffic classes and if a
device is carrying subordinate traffic classes I changed num_tc from a u8
to a s16 value and use the negative values to represent the subordinate
pool values. So starting at -1 and running to -32768 we can encode those as
pool values, and the existing values of 0 to 15 can be maintained.

The ETF (Earliest TxTime First) qdisc uses the information added
earlier in this series (the socket option SO_TXTIME and the new
role of sk_buff->tstamp) to schedule packets transmission based
on absolute time.
For some workloads, just bandwidth enforcement is not enough, and
precise control of the transmission of packets is necessary.
Example:
$ tc qdisc replace dev enp2s0 parent root handle 100 mqprio num_tc 3 \
map 2 2 1 0 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 queues 1@0 1@1 2@2 hw 0
$ tc qdisc add dev enp2s0 parent 100:1 etf delta 100000 \
clockid CLOCK_TAI
In this example, the Qdisc will provide SW best-effort for the control
of the transmission time to the network adapter, the time stamp in the
socket will be in reference to the clockid CLOCK_TAI and packets
will leave the qdisc "delta" (100000) nanoseconds before its transmission
time.
The ETF qdisc will buffer packets sorted by their txtime. It will drop
packets on enqueue() if their skbuff clockid does not match the clock
reference of the Qdisc. Moreover, on dequeue(), a packet will be dropped
if it expires while being enqueued.
The qdisc also supports the SO_TXTIME deadline mode. For this mode, it
will dequeue a packet as soon as possible and change the skb timestamp
to 'now' during etf_dequeue().
Note that both the qdisc's and the SO_TXTIME ABIs allow for a clockid
to be configured, but it's been decided that usage of CLOCK_TAI should
be enforced until we decide to allow for other clockids to be used.
The rationale here is that PTP times are usually in the TAI scale, thus
no other clocks should be necessary. For now, the qdisc will return
EINVAL if any clocks other than CLOCK_TAI are used.

Also involved adding a way to run a netfilter hook over a list of packets.
Rather than attempting to make netfilter know about lists (which would be
a major project in itself) we just let it call the regular okfn (in this
case ip_rcv_finish()) for any packets it steals, and have it give us back
a list of packets it's synchronously accepted (which normally NF_HOOK
would automatically call okfn() on, but we want to be able to potentially
pass the list to a listified version of okfn().)
The netfilter hooks themselves are indirect calls that still happen per-
packet (see nf_hook_entry_hookfn()), but again, changing that can be left
for future work.
There is potential for out-of-order receives if the netfilter hook ends up
synchronously stealing packets, as they will be processed before any
accepts earlier in the list. However, it was already possible for an
asynchronous accept to cause out-of-order receives, so presumably this is
considered OK.

pull-request: bpf-next 2018-06-05
The following pull-request contains BPF updates for your *net-next* tree.
The main changes are:
1) Add a new BPF hook for sendmsg similar to existing hooks for bind and
connect: "This allows to override source IP (including the case when it's
set via cmsg(3)) and destination IP:port for unconnected UDP (slow path).
TCP and connected UDP (fast path) are not affected. This makes UDP support
complete, that is, connected UDP is handled by connect hooks, unconnected
by sendmsg ones.", from Andrey.
2) Rework of the AF_XDP API to allow extending it in future for type writer
model if necessary. In this mode a memory window is passed to hardware
and multiple frames might be filled into that window instead of just one
that is the case in the current fixed frame-size model. With the new
changes made this can be supported without having to add a new descriptor
format. Also, core bits for the zero-copy support for AF_XDP have been
merged as agreed upon, where i40e bits will be routed via Jeff later on.
Various improvements to documentation and sample programs included as
well, all from Björn and Magnus.
3) Given BPF's flexibility, a new program type has been added to implement
infrared decoders. Quote: "The kernel IR decoders support the most
widely used IR protocols, but there are many protocols which are not
supported. [...] There is a 'long tail' of unsupported IR protocols,
for which lircd is need to decode the IR. IR encoding is done in such
a way that some simple circuit can decode it; therefore, BPF is ideal.
[...] user-space can define a decoder in BPF, attach it to the rc
device through the lirc chardev.", from Sean.
4) Several improvements and fixes to BPF core, among others, dumping map
and prog IDs into fdinfo which is a straight forward way to correlate
BPF objects used by applications, removing an indirect call and therefore
retpoline in all map lookup/update/delete calls by invoking the callback
directly for 64 bit archs, adding a new bpf_skb_cgroup_id() BPF helper
for tc BPF programs to have an efficient way of looking up cgroup v2 id
for policy or other use cases. Fixes to make sure we zero tunnel/xfrm
state that hasn't been filled, to allow context access wrt pt_regs in
32 bit archs for tracing, and last but not least various test cases
for fixes that landed in bpf earlier, from Daniel.
5) Get rid of the ndo_xdp_flush API and extend the ndo_xdp_xmit with
a XDP_XMIT_FLUSH flag instead which allows to avoid one indirect
call as flushing is now merged directly into ndo_xdp_xmit(), from Jesper.
6) Add a new bpf_get_current_cgroup_id() helper that can be used in
tracing to retrieve the cgroup id from the current process in order
to allow for e.g. aggregation of container-level events, from Yonghong.
7) Two follow-up fixes for BTF to reject invalid input values and
related to that also two test cases for BPF kselftests, from Martin.
8) Various API improvements to the bpf_fib_lookup() helper, that is,
dropping MPLS bits which are not fully hashed out yet, rejecting
invalid helper flags, returning error for unsupported address
families as well as renaming flowlabel to flowinfo, from David.
9) Various fixes and improvements to sockmap BPF kselftests in particular
in proper error detection and data verification, from Prashant.
10) Two arm32 BPF JIT improvements. One is to fix imm range check with
regards to whether immediate fits into 24 bits, and a naming cleanup
to get functions related to rsh handling consistent to those handling
lsh, from Wang.
11) Two compile warning fixes in BPF, one for BTF and a false positive
to silent gcc in stack_map_get_build_id_offset(), from Arnd.

to fix compilation of BPF kselftests, from Mathieu.
13) Several formatting cleanups in the BPF UAPI helper description that
also fix an error during rst2man compilation, from Quentin.

The failover module provides a generic interface for paravirtual drivers
to register a netdev and a set of ops with a failover instance. The ops
are used as event handlers that get called to handle netdev register/
unregister/link change/name change events on slave pci ethernet devices
with the same mac address as the failover netdev.
This enables paravirtual drivers to use a VF as an accelerated low latency
datapath. It also allows migration of VMs with direct attached VFs by
failing over to the paravirtual datapath when the VF is unplugged.

This patch change the API for ndo_xdp_xmit to support bulking
xdp_frames.
When kernel is compiled with CONFIG_RETPOLINE, XDP sees a huge slowdown.
Most of the slowdown is caused by DMA API indirect function calls, but
also the net_device->ndo_xdp_xmit() call.
Benchmarked patch with CONFIG_RETPOLINE, using xdp_redirect_map with
single flow/core test (CPU E5-1650 v4 @ 3.60GHz), showed
performance improved:
for driver ixgbe: 6,042,682 pps -> 6,853,768 pps = +811,086 pps
for driver i40e : 6,187,169 pps -> 6,724,519 pps = +537,350 pps
With frames avail as a bulk inside the driver ndo_xdp_xmit call,
further optimizations are possible, like bulk DMA-mapping for TX.
Testing without CONFIG_RETPOLINE show the same performance for
physical NIC drivers.
The virtual NIC driver tun sees a huge performance boost, as it can
avoid doing per frame producer locking, but instead amortize the
locking cost over the bulk.

NETIF_F_HW_VLAN_[CS]TAG_FILTER features require more than just a bit
flip in dev->features in order to keep the driver in a consistent state.
These features notify the driver of each added/removed vlan, but toggling
of vlan-filter does not notify the driver accordingly for each of the
existing vlans.
This patch implements a similar solution to NETIF_F_RX_UDP_TUNNEL_PORT
behavior (which notifies the driver about UDP ports in the same manner
that vids are reported).
Each toggling of the features propagates to the 8021q module, which
iterates over the vlans and call add/kill ndo accordingly.

fallback tunnels (like tunl0, gre0, gretap0, erspan0, sit0,
ip6tnl0, ip6gre0) are automatically created when the corresponding
module is loaded.
These tunnels are also automatically created when a new network
namespace is created, at a great cost.
In many cases, netns are used for isolation purposes, and these
extra network devices are a waste of resources. We are using
thousands of netns per host, and hit the netns creation/delete
bottleneck a lot. (Many thanks to Kirill for recent work on this)
Add a new sysctl so that we can opt-out from this automatic creation.
Note that these tunnels are still created for the initial namespace,
to be the least intrusive for typical setups.

the ipvlan device driver defines and uses 2 bits inside the priv_flags

inside the ipvlan device driver, and the core networking does not

This change moves netif_is_ipvlan* helper in the ipvlan driver and

Only two of dev_ioctl() callers may pass SIOCGIFCONF to it.
Separating that codepath from the rest of dev_ioctl() allows both
to simplify dev_ioctl() itself (all other cases work with struct ifreq *)
*and* seriously simplify the compat side of that beast: all it takes
is passing to inet_gifconf() an extra argument - the size of individual
records (sizeof(struct ifreq) or sizeof(struct compat_ifreq)). With
dev_ifconf() called directly from sock_do_ioctl()/compat_dev_ifconf()
that's easy to arrange.
As the result, compat side of SIOCGIFCONF doesn't need any

pull-request: bpf-next 2018-01-17
The following pull-request contains BPF updates for your *net-next* tree.
The main changes are:
1) Add initial BPF map offloading for nfp driver. Currently only
programs were supported so far w/o being able to access maps.
Offloaded programs are right now only allowed to perform map
lookups, and control path is responsible for populating the
maps. BPF core infrastructure along with nfp implementation is
provided, from Jakub.
2) Various follow-ups to Josef's BPF error injections. More
specifically that includes: properly check whether the error
injectable event is on function entry or not, remove the percpu
bpf_kprobe_override and rather compare instruction pointer
with original one, separate error-injection from kprobes since
it's not limited to it, add injectable error types in order to
specify what is the expected type of failure, and last but not
least also support the kernel's fault injection framework, all
from Masami.
3) Various misc improvements and cleanups to the libbpf Makefile.
That is, fix permissions when installing BPF header files, remove
unused variables and functions, and also install the libbpf.h
header, from Jesper.
4) When offloading to nfp JIT and the BPF insn is unsupported in the
JIT, then reject right at verification time. Also fix libbpf with
regards to ELF section name matching by properly treating the
program type as prefix. Both from Quentin.
5) Add -DPACKAGE to bpftool when including bfd.h for the disassembler.
This is needed, for example, when building libfd from source as
bpftool doesn't supply a config.h for bfd.h. Fix from Jiong.
6) xdp_convert_ctx_access() is simplified since it doesn't need to
set target size during verification, from Jesper.
7) Let bpftool properly recognize BPF_PROG_TYPE_CGROUP_DEVICE
program types, from Roman.
8) Various functions in BPF cpumap were not declared static, from Wei.
9) Fix a double semicolon in BPF samples, from Luis.

BPF map offload follow similar path to program offload. At creation
time users may specify ifindex of the device on which they want to
create the map. Map will be validated by the kernel's
.map_alloc_check callback and device driver will be called for the
actual allocation. Map will have an empty set of operations
associated with it (save for alloc and free callbacks). The real
device callbacks are kept in map->offload->dev_ops because they
have slightly different signatures. Map operations are called in
process context so the driver may communicate with HW freely,
msleep(), wait() etc.
Map alloc and free callbacks are muxed via existing .ndo_bpf, and
are always called with rtnl lock held. Maps and programs are
guaranteed to be destroyed before .ndo_uninit (i.e. before
unregister_netdev() returns). Map callbacks are invoked with
bpf_devs_lock *read* locked, drivers must take care of exclusive
locking if necessary.
All offload-specific branches are marked with unlikely() (through
bpf_map_is_dev_bound()), given that branch penalty will be
negligible compared to IO anyway, and we don't want to penalize
SW path unnecessarily.

Tuntap and similar devices can inject GSO packets. Accept type
VIRTIO_NET_HDR_GSO_UDP, even though not generating UFO natively.
Processes are expected to use feature negotiation such as TUNSETOFFLOAD
to detect supported offload types and refrain from injecting other
packets. This process breaks down with live migration: guest kernels
do not renegotiate flags, so destination hosts need to expose all
features that the source host does.
Partially revert the UFO removal from 182e0b6b5846~1..d9d30adf5677.
This patch introduces nearly(*) no new code to simplify verification.
It brings back verbatim tuntap UFO negotiation, VIRTIO_NET_HDR_GSO_UDP
insertion and software UFO segmentation.
It does not reinstate protocol stack support, hardware offload
(NETIF_F_UFO), SKB_GSO_UDP tunneling in SKB_GSO_SOFTWARE or reception
of VIRTIO_NET_HDR_GSO_UDP packets in tuntap.
To support SKB_GSO_UDP reappearing in the stack, also reinstate
logic in act_csum and openvswitch. Achieve equivalence with v4.13 HEAD
by squashing in commit 939912216f ("net: skb_needs_check() removes
CHECKSUM_UNNECESSARY check for tx.") and reverting commit 8d63bee643
("net: avoid skb_warn_bad_offload false positives on UFO").
(*) To avoid having to bring back skb_shinfo(skb)->ip6_frag_id,
ipv6_proxy_select_ident is changed to return a __be32 and this is
assigned directly to the frag_hdr. Also, SKB_GSO_UDP is inserted
at the end of the enum to minimize code churn.

Booted a v4.13 guest kernel with QEMU. On a host kernel before this

* TC_RED_SET: handles set and change.
* TC_RED_DESTROY: handle qdisc destroy.
* TC_RED_STATS: update the qdiscs counters (given as reference)
* TC_RED_XSTAT: returns red xstats.

The fact that we don't know which device the program is going
to be used on is quite limiting in current eBPF infrastructure.
We have to reverse or limit the changes which kernel makes to
the loaded bytecode if we want it to be offloaded to a networking
device. We also have to invent new APIs for debugging and
troubleshooting support.
Make it possible to load programs for a specific netdev. This
helps us to bring the debug information closer to the core
eBPF infrastructure (e.g. we will be able to reuse the verifer
log in device JIT). It allows device JITs to perform translation
on the original bytecode.
__bpf_prog_get() when called to get a reference for an attachment
point will now refuse to give it if program has a device assigned.
Following patches will add a version of that function which passes
the expected netdev in. @type argument in __bpf_prog_get() is
renamed to attach_type to make it clearer that it's only set on
attachment.
All calls to ndo_bpf are protected by rtnl, only verifier callbacks
are not. We need a wait queue to make sure netdev doesn't get
destroyed while verifier is still running and calling its driver.

This patch makes cpumap functional, by adding SKB allocation and
invoking the network stack on the dequeuing CPU.
For constructing the SKB on the remote CPU, the xdp_buff in converted
into a struct xdp_pkt, and it mapped into the top headroom of the
packet, to avoid allocating separate mem. For now, struct xdp_pkt is
just a cpumap internal data structure, with info carried between
enqueue to dequeue.
If a driver doesn't have enough headroom it is simply dropped, with
return code -EOVERFLOW. This will be picked up the xdp tracepoint

register_netdevice() could fail early when we have an invalid
dev name, in which case ->ndo_uninit() is not called. For tun
device, this is a problem because a timer etc. are already
initialized and it expects ->ndo_uninit() to clean them up.
We could move these initializations into a ->ndo_init() so
that register_netdevice() knows better, however this is still
complicated due to the logic in tun_detach().
Therefore, I choose to just call dev_get_valid_name() before
register_netdevice(), which is quicker and much easier to audit.
And for this specific case, it is already enough.

Netfilter updates for net-next
The following patchset contains Netfilter updates for your net-next
tree. Basically, updates to the conntrack core, enhancements for
nf_tables, conversion of netfilter hooks from linked list to array to
improve memory locality and asorted improvements for the Netfilter
codebase. More specifically, they are:
1) Add expection to hashes after timer initialization to prevent
access from another CPU that walks on the hashes and calls
del_timer(), from Florian Westphal.
2) Don't update nf_tables chain counters from hot path, this is only
used by the x_tables compatibility layer.
3) Get rid of nested rcu_read_lock() calls from netfilter hook path.
Hooks are always guaranteed to run from rcu read side, so remove
nested rcu_read_lock() where possible. Patch from Taehee Yoo.
4) nf_tables new ruleset generation notifications include PID and name

Patch series from Phil Sutter.
16) Kill nf_conntrack_default_on, it's broken. Default on conntrack hook
registration on demand, suggested by Eric Dumazet, patch from Florian.

18) Constify struct nf_conntrack_l4proto, from Julia Lawall.
19) Constify nf_loginfo structure, also from Julia.
20) Use a single rb root in connlimit, from Taehee Yoo.
21) Remove unused netfilter_queue_init() prototype, from Taehee Yoo.
22) Use audit_log() instead of open-coding it, from Geliang Tang.
23) Allow to mangle tcp options via nft_exthdr, from Florian.
24) Allow to fetch TCP MSS from nft_rt, from Florian. This includes
a fix for a miscalculation of the minimal length.
25) Simplify branch logic in h323 helper, from Nick Desaulniers.
26) Calculate netlink attribute size for conntrack tuple at compile
time, from Florian.
27) Remove protocol name field from nf_conntrack_{l3,l4}proto structure.

28) Remove holes in nf_conntrack_l4proto structure, so it becomes
smaller. From Florian.
29) Get rid of print_tuple() indirection for /proc conntrack listing.

31) Constify most nf_conntrack_{l3,l4}proto helper functions, from
Florian.
32) Fix broken indentation in ebtables extensions, from Colin Ian King.
33) Fix several harmless sparse warning, from Florian.
34) Convert netfilter hook infrastructure to use array for better memory
locality, joint work done by Florian and Aaron Conole. Moreover, add
some instrumentation to debug this.

The mlxsw driver relies on NETDEV_CHANGEUPPER events to configure the
device in case a port is enslaved to a master netdev such as bridge or
bond.
Since the driver ignores events unrelated to its ports and their
uppers, it's possible to engineer situations in which the device's data
path differs from the kernel's.
One example to such a situation is when a port is enslaved to a bond
that is already enslaved to a bridge. When the bond was enslaved the
driver ignored the event - as the bond wasn't one of its uppers - and
therefore a bridge port instance isn't created in the device.
Until such configurations are supported forbid them by checking that the
upper device doesn't have uppers of its own.

struct call_single_data is used in IPIs to transfer information between
CPUs. Its size is bigger than sizeof(unsigned long) and less than
cache line size. Currently it is not allocated with any explicit alignment
requirements. This makes it possible for allocated call_single_data to
cross two cache lines, which results in double the number of the cache lines
that need to be transferred among CPUs.
This can be fixed by requiring call_single_data to be aligned with the
size of call_single_data. Currently the size of call_single_data is the
power of 2. If we add new fields to call_single_data, we may need to
add padding to make sure the size of new definition is the power of 2
as well.
Fortunately, this is enforced by GCC, which will report bad sizes.
To set alignment requirements of call_single_data to the size of
call_single_data, a struct definition and a typedef is used.
To test the effect of the patch, I used the vm-scalability multiple
thread swap test case (swap-w-seq-mt). The test will create multiple
threads and each thread will eat memory until all RAM and part of swap
is used, so that huge number of IPIs are triggered when unmapping
memory. In the test, the throughput of memory writing improves ~5%
compared with misaligned call_single_data, because of faster IPIs.

This converts the storage and layout of netfilter hook entries from a

The ops pointers are stored at the end of the array as they are only

As Hongjun/Nicolas summarized in their original patch:
"
When a device changes from one netns to another, it's first unregistered,
then the netns reference is updated and the dev is registered in the new
netns. Thus, when a slave moves to another netns, it is first
unregistered. This triggers a NETDEV_UNREGISTER event which is caught by
the bonding driver. The driver calls bond_release(), which calls
dev_set_mtu() and thus triggers NETDEV_CHANGEMTU (the device is still in
the old netns).
"
This is a very special case, because the device is being unregistered
no one should still care about the NETDEV_CHANGEMTU event triggered
at this point, we can avoid broadcasting this event on this path,
and avoid touching inetdev_event()/addrconf_notify() path.
It requires to export __dev_set_mtu() to bonding driver.

Extend the XDP_ATTACHED_* values to include offloaded mode.
Let drivers report whether program is installed in the driver
or the HW by changing the prog_attached field from bool to
u8 (type of the netlink attribute).
Exploit the fact that the value of XDP_ATTACHED_DRV is 1,
therefore since all drivers currently assign the mode with
double negation:
mode = !!xdp_prog;
no drivers have to be modified.

Network devices can allocate reasources and private memory using
netdev_ops->ndo_init(). However, the release of these resources
can occur in one of two different places.
Either netdev_ops->ndo_uninit() or netdev->destructor().
The decision of which operation frees the resources depends upon
whether it is necessary for all netdev refs to be released before it
is safe to perform the freeing.
netdev_ops->ndo_uninit() presumably can occur right after the
NETDEV_UNREGISTER notifier completes and the unicast and multicast
address lists are flushed.
netdev->destructor(), on the other hand, does not run until the
netdev references all go away.
Further complicating the situation is that netdev->destructor()
almost universally does also a free_netdev().
This creates a problem for the logic in register_netdevice().
Because all callers of register_netdevice() manage the freeing
of the netdev, and invoke free_netdev(dev) if register_netdevice()
fails.
If netdev_ops->ndo_init() succeeds, but something else fails inside
of register_netdevice(), it does call ndo_ops->ndo_uninit(). But
it is not able to invoke netdev->destructor().
This is because netdev->destructor() will do a free_netdev() and
then the caller of register_netdevice() will do the same.
However, this means that the resources that would normally be released
by netdev->destructor() will not be.
Over the years drivers have added local hacks to deal with this, by
invoking their destructor parts by hand when register_netdevice()
fails.
Many drivers do not try to deal with this, and instead we have leaks.
Let's close this hole by formalizing the distinction between what
private things need to be freed up by netdev->destructor() and whether
the driver needs unregister_netdevice() to perform the free_netdev().
netdev->priv_destructor() performs all actions to free up the private
resources that used to be freed by netdev->destructor(), except for
free_netdev().
netdev->needs_free_netdev is a boolean that indicates whether
free_netdev() should be done at the end of unregister_netdevice().
Now, register_netdevice() can sanely release all resources after
ndo_ops->ndo_init() succeeds, by invoking both ndo_ops->ndo_uninit()
and netdev->priv_destructor().
And at the end of unregister_netdevice(), we invoke
netdev->priv_destructor() and optionally call free_netdev().

Since commit b68581778c ("net: Make skb->skb_iif always track
skb->dev") skbs don't have the original index of the interface which
received the packet. This information is now needed for a new control
message related to hardware timestamping.
Instead of adding a new field to skb, we can find the device by the NAPI
ID if it is available, i.e. CONFIG_NET_RX_BUSY_POLL is enabled and the
driver is using NAPI. Add dev_get_by_napi_id() and also skb_napi_id() to
hide the CONFIG_NET_RX_BUSY_POLL ifdef.

skb_csum_hwoffload_help() uses netdev features and skb->csum_not_inet to
determine if skb needs software computation of Internet Checksum or crc32c
(or nothing, if this computation can be done by the hardware). Use it in

While working on the iproute2 generic XDP frontend, I noticed that
as of right now it's possible to have native *and* generic XDP
programs loaded both at the same time for the case when a driver
supports native XDP.
The intended model for generic XDP from b5cdae3291 ("net: Generic
XDP") is, however, that only one out of the two can be present at
once which is also indicated as such in the XDP netlink dump part.
The main rationale for generic XDP is to ease accessibility (in
case a driver does not yet have XDP support) and to generically
provide a semantical model as an example for driver developers
wanting to add XDP support. The generic XDP option for an XDP
aware driver can still be useful for comparing and testing both
implementations.
However, it is not intended to have a second XDP processing stage
or layer with exactly the same functionality of the first native
stage. Only reason could be to have a partial fallback for future
XDP features that are not supported yet in the native implementation
and we probably also shouldn't strive for such fallback and instead
encourage native feature support in the first place. Given there's
currently no such fallback issue or use case, lets not go there yet
if we don't need to.
Therefore, change semantics for loading XDP and bail out if the
user tries to load a generic XDP program when a native one is
present and vice versa. Another alternative to bailing out would
be to handle the transition from one flavor to another gracefully,
but that would require to bring the device down, exchange both
types of programs, and bring it up again in order to avoid a tiny
window where a packet could hit both hooks. Given this complicates
the logic for just a debugging feature in the native case, I went
with the simpler variant.
For the dump, remove IFLA_XDP_FLAGS that was added with b5cdae3291
and reuse IFLA_XDP_ATTACHED for indicating the mode. Dumping all
or just a subset of flags that were used for loading the XDP prog
is suboptimal in the long run since not all flags are useful for
dumping and if we start to reuse the same flag definitions for
load and dump, then we'll waste bit space. What we really just
want is to dump the mode for now.
Current IFLA_XDP_ATTACHED semantics are: nothing was installed (0),
a program is running at the native driver layer (1). Thus, add a
mode that says that a program is running at generic XDP layer (2).
Applications will handle this fine in that older binaries will
just indicate that something is attached at XDP layer, effectively
this is similar to IFLA_XDP_FLAGS attr that we would have had
modulo the redundancy.

This provides a generic SKB based non-optimized XDP path which is used
if either the driver lacks a specific XDP implementation, or the user
requests it via a new IFLA_XDP_FLAGS value named XDP_FLAGS_SKB_MODE.
It is arguable that perhaps I should have required something like
this as part of the initial XDP feature merge.
I believe this is critical for two reasons:
1) Accessibility. More people can play with XDP with less
dependencies. Yes I know we have XDP support in virtio_net, but
that just creates another depedency for learning how to use this
facility.
I wrote this to make life easier for the XDP newbies.
2) As a model for what the expected semantics are. If there is a pure
generic core implementation, it serves as a semantic example for
driver folks adding XDP support.
One thing I have not tried to address here is the issue of
XDP_PACKET_HEADROOM, thanks to Daniel for spotting that. It seems
incredibly expensive to do a skb_cow(skb, XDP_PACKET_HEADROOM) or
whatever even if the XDP program doesn't try to push headers at all.
I think we really need the verifier to somehow propagate whether
certain XDP helpers are used or not.

the packet path.
1) Add the needed netdev features to configure IPsec offloads.
2) Add the IPsec hardware offloading API.
3) Prepare the ESP packet path for hardware offloading.
4) Add gso handlers for esp4 and esp6, this implements

5) Add xfrm replay handler functions for offloading.
6) Change ESP to use a synchronous crypto algorithm on
offloading, we don't have the option for asynchronous
returns when we handle IPsec at layer2.
7) Add a xfrm validate function to validate_xmit_skb. This
implements the software fallback for non GSO packets.
8) Set the inner_network and inner_transport members of
the SKB, as well as encapsulation, to reflect the actual
positions of these headers, and removes them only once
encryption is done on the payload.

Constants used for tuning are generally a bad idea, especially as hardware
changes over time. Replace the constant 2 jiffies with sysctl variable

Also document the variable.
For example, a very fast machine might tune this to 1000 microseconds,
while my regression testing 486DX-25 needs it to be 4000 microseconds on

supported for the offload type via the qopt->hw value. Previously we were
just always assuming the value to be 1, in the future values beyond just 1
may be supported.

While playing with mlx4 hardware timestamping of RX packets, I found
that some packets were received by TCP stack with a ~200 ms delay...
Since the timestamp was provided by the NIC, and my probe was added
in tcp_v4_rcv() while in BH handler, I was confident it was not
a sender issue, or a drop in the network.
This would happen with a very low probability, but hurting RPC
workloads.
A NAPI driver normally arms the IRQ after the napi_complete_done(),
after NAPI_STATE_SCHED is cleared, so that the hard irq handler can grab
it.
Problem is that if another point in the stack grabs NAPI_STATE_SCHED bit
while IRQ are not disabled, we might have later an IRQ firing and
finding this bit set, right before napi_complete_done() clears it.
This can happen with busy polling users, or if gro_flush_timeout is
used. But some other uses of napi_schedule() in drivers can cause this
as well.
thread 1 thread 2 (could be on same cpu, or not)
// busy polling or napi_watchdog()
napi_schedule();
...
napi->poll()
device polling:
read 2 packets from ring buffer
Additional 3rd packet is
available.
device hard irq
// does nothing because
NAPI_STATE_SCHED bit is owned by thread 1
napi_schedule();
napi_complete_done(napi, 2);
rearm_irq();
Note that rearm_irq() will not force the device to send an additional
IRQ for the packet it already signaled (3rd packet in my example)
This patch adds a new NAPI_STATE_MISSED bit, that napi_schedule_prep()
can set if it could not grab NAPI_STATE_SCHED
Then napi_complete_done() properly reschedules the napi to make sure
we do not miss something.
Since we manipulate multiple bits at once, use cmpxchg() like in
sk_busy_loop() to provide proper transactions.
In v2, I changed napi_watchdog() to use a relaxed variant of
napi_schedule_prep() : No need to set NAPI_STATE_MISSED from this point.
In v3, I added more details in the changelog and clears
NAPI_STATE_MISSED in busy_poll_stop()
In v4, I added the ideas given by Alexander Duyck in v3 review

pull request (net-next): ipsec-next 2017-02-16
1) Make struct xfrm_input_afinfo const, nothing writes to it.
From Florian Westphal.
2) Remove all places that write to the afinfo policy backend
and make the struct const then.
From Florian Westphal.
3) Prepare for packet consuming gro callbacks and add
ESP GRO handlers. ESP packets can be decapsulated
at the GRO layer then. It saves a round through
the stack for each ESP packet.
Please note that this has a merge coflict between commit
63fca65d08 ("net: add confirm_neigh method to dst_ops")
from net-next and
3d7d25a68e ("xfrm: policy: remove garbage_collect callback")
a2817d8b27 ("xfrm: policy: remove family field")
from ipsec-next.
The conflict can be solved as it is done in linux-next.
Please pull or let me know if there are problems.

Add a skb_gro_flush_final helper to prepare for consuming
skbs in call_gro_receive. We will extend this helper to not
touch the skb if the skb is consumed by a gro callback with
a followup patch. We need this to handle the upcomming IPsec
ESP callbacks as they reinject the skb to the napi_gro_receive
asynchronous. The handler is used in all gro_receive functions
that can call the ESP gro handlers.

garp_port is only used in net/802/garp.c which is only compiled with
CONFIG_GARP enabled. Same goes for mrp_port which is only used in
net/802/mrp.c with CONFIG_MRP enabled.
Only include the two members in struct net_device if their respective
CONFIG_* is enabled. This saves a few bytes in struct net_device in case
CONFIG_GARP or CONFIG_MRP are not enabled.
